2024 Best Hotel Bars in the United States

"For a respite from the Southern heat, slip into this well-appointed speakeasy off downtown’s city market. Here, bartender Allan Lancaster translates the hotel’s sleek 1920s interiors into chic but cheeky cocktails. The Islay an Egg is an Ardbeg sour, while The Dude Imbibes is a White Russian by way of Charleston, employing Chai vanilla vodka, local cold brew coffee, and Carolina cream liqueur. The best vantage point in The Bar is from the plush green leatherback stools that position you right in front of Lancaster." - Kate Dingwall

Fantastic Drinks & Even Better Service! My wife and I love it here, and I have to say, it’s one of the best spots in town! The atmosphere is inviting, the drinks are top-notch, and the service is outstanding. Allen is a master of mixology—his cocktails are perfectly balanced, creative, and always spot-on. Anna brings such a warm energy behind the bar, making everyone feel welcome while serving up delicious drinks with speed and skill. Whether you’re looking for a craft cocktail, a classic pour, or just a great conversation, this is the place to be. Highly recommend stopping by if you haven’t already. We will definitely be back soon!

Stepping into The Bar at The Spectator Hotel is like being whisked away to a bygone era where the clink of ice in a glass and the murmur of a jazz record playing softly in the background are the prelude to an unforgettable evening. Here, the art of cocktail-making is revered, and every sip is a testament to the craft. Rose and Corinne, the stars behind the bar, are the maestros of this symphony of flavors. With a smile as warm as the Charleston sun and a touch as deft as a painter's, they mix, shake, and pour with an elegance that is both mesmerizing and assuring. Their service is not just courteous; it's a masterclass in hospitality. The cocktails they create are nothing short of liquid masterpieces. Whether it's the boldness of an old-fashioned or the subtle complexity of a bourbon infused concoction, each drink is a harmonious blend of quality ingredients and creative flair. And it's not just the drinks that tell a story; it's the way Rose and Corrine present them, with a grace that elevates the entire experience. At The Bar at The Spectator Hotel, every detail is meticulously curated to transport you to an age of sophistication and splendor. From the plush green leatherback stools to the Prohibition-style ambiance, it's a place where the spirit of the Jazz Age is alive and well, thanks to the tireless efforts of Rose and Corinne, who ensure that every guest leaves with a story to tell and a desire to return. In a world where the art of the cocktail can often be overlooked, The Bar at The Spectator Hotel stands as a beacon of excellence, a reminder of the time when a drink was more than just a drink—it was an experience. And with Rose and Corrine at the helm, it's an experience that is truly spectacular.🍸✨

Wonderful experience at the bar at Spectator as always! The Urban Sombrero is my new favorite tequila drink. Kevin was amazing today and everything was beyond delicious!

Google
Stumbled across this bar as we were looking for a cocktail bar, it's a hidden gem. We sat at the bar and ordered an amazing Old fashioned, and a mezcal drink made with hot honey and tasted like Nashville hot chicken. It was such an interesting drink that was very unique and memorable.

Google
Stumbled upon The Bar at The Spectator while awaiting dinner reservations at a nearby restaurant. The bar had a swanky vibe; dark woods, gold bar accessories, and etched glass cocktail glasses. The bartender, Kevin, was fantastic. When unsure what to order, he asked our preferred liquor and then made recommendations. He was very professional and made for a delightful happy hour experience. As with most hotel bars, the drinks were expensive (my husband had a 2oz pour of Angels Envy Rye whisky that was $29) but, if you prefer ambiance and quality over cheap liquor and plastic cups, I recommend The Bar at the Spectator. And if you go, ask for Kevin, you won’t be disappointed.

Google
No exaggeration. My actual favorite bar. You can order anything from the menu and it will be delicious. Or tell them what kind of spirit your in the mood for and it’s delicious. I’ve never had a drink or an experience here that I did not thoroughly enjoy. Allen and Kevin are 💯

Yelp
Elegance! Complete elegance! A boutique hotel located in Downtown Charleston! Southern hospitality and a place to be totally pampered and it starts as soon as you check-in! Complimentary cocktail as you as you arrive, your own butler who will literally go out of their way to make your stay everything you ever dreamed of! Complimentary breakfast in the morning delivered right to your room if wanted! Turn down service with treats! The hotel is also located in walking distance of many great restaurants and centrally located to all downtown Charleston has to offer! Highly recommend The Spectator, you are in for a total treat! Shout out to Jerry, my butler! He was fantastic!

Yelp
Okay, WOW! Just Wow! Top notch service, darling boutique hotel. In the thick of everything. From their first text, weeks before arrival to ask if we needed help with anything until to holding our things on a cart while we had one last lunch after checking out. I love this place and the People! We've never stayed in a hotel with full butler service. It was such a luxury. They will make reservations, book tours, press clothes. They sent up champagne for our anniversary when they found out it was that week. We arrived early and the room wasn't ready so we left the bags, car and everything with the valet. When they texted us later to say room was ready we arrived back to every bag logically placed, luggage stands for suitcases and things ready for us to change and get going to dinner. What a treat! They think of everything. Welcome cocktail, umbrellas and dry towels in the lobby on rainy days. Always holding the door, greeting with a smile. Did I mention breakfast in your room daily..... included. And it's delicious, choice of hot full eggs, sausage, potatoes etc or French pastries and fruit or avocado toast! You know what else is included, snacks (delicious cookies, chocolate, chips, gummy bears (personal favorite)) and stocked fridge- water, sparkling water, soda, replaced whenever needed. Chocolate cocktail with your turndown at night. All included! And while it is a little pricey to stay here, rate compared to other Charleston hotels was on par but included so much more! I would highly recommend and I will stay here again! 100% Beautiful bath, comfortable bed with the type of linens you expect, local made wonderful bath products.

Yelp
We stopped by the Spectator bar on the way to dinner and we had the best experience! They have comfy seating, and excellent service. Our server was quick to help us and get us our drinks:) We then ordered the charcuterie and fromage and we were wowed by the generous portions. For a good appetizer prior to dinner, I would highly recommend. I definitely plan to return in the future!

Yelp
The Spectator deserves 6 stars! AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING customer service! Super clean! Awesome location! They don't allow pets every hotel should follow this! Believe all the great reviews! Thanks again to the entire staff you guys are awesome!

Yelp
I was staying at the French Quarter hotel and wanted to go to their bar for a drink. Unfortunately, they don't really have a good sit-down bar with professional bartenders. But they do have a "sister hotel," the Spectator. And WOW! the Spectator Hotel is over the top of top-notch. It has a regular brigade of professional servers, bartenders, and butlers. The décor is stunning and most pleasing in comfort to me as I leaned back in my classic Chesterfield davenport while enjoying a couple of tasty bourbon Manhattans. And though I didn't stay at Spectator, I did get a look at some of their rooms which were gorgeous and even came with personal butler service. Everything about Spectator Hotel oozes class, elegance, and refinement. If I could, I'd go 6 Yelp stars,

Yelp
The Spectator Hotel is the epitome of elegance and luxury, yet feels like home, in the heart of Charleston's French Quarter. I chose this hotel due to its central location and top-tier reviews, but felt I should also include a review so all travelers can indulge in one of the best stays I've had in a while. From the moment I arrived, through the time I departed (4 nights), I was enveloped in an atmosphere of refinement and treated like a queen. My room was comfortable and impeccably clean, inclusive of the most luxurious amenities, and a lavishly-stocked mini-bar (complimentary and refilled daily). I rested so comfortably in soft bamboo bedding, enjoyed using my large sumptuous marble bathroom (all bath products included), and enjoyed the most scrumptious breakfasts that were delivered daily to my room (complimentary with your stay and upscale-- not at all a "regular" hotel breakfast as these were one of the highlights of my trip). The service here far exceeded my expectations. Every morning, Darrell greeted me with the kindest "Good morning!" as he delivered the breakfast tray to the room. I always chose an early delivery time and his daily greetings, paired with the delicious breakfasts, started my day off beautifully. This left a profound impact on me-- not many are as kind and helpful at that hour as everyone is at this hotel. Darrell is one of a kind. From the front desk staff, housekeepers, bartenders, and dining team-- to the concierge, butlers appointed to each room (truly "at your service"), and the hotel manager-- I could sing praises all day long of the world-class service received here. If hotel management reads this review, I hope they will ensure that the scrumptious cordials continue to be left for guests in each room during turn-down service, keep every item on the breakfast menu, and keep offering the drink on the bar menu that was serviced with coconut foam on top. I could not stop thinking of these past my stay! Delightful! One can also rent a bike to use around town, pick up a local paper daily, enjoy fresh fruit and chocolate when coming in/out of the property, ask for guidance on what there is to do in Charleston, et al, all compliments of the hotel. Needless to say, I will return! Highly recommend.

Yelp
First ever and last ever review.. If you know you know. Long and short of it, this hotel is immaculate. Butler service, gourmet breakfast daily to the room, arrival cocktail's, complimentary mini fridge and one of the chillest, casual classy lounges I've been to. Imagine Johnny Cash, Karl Lagerfeld and Dean Martin opened a bar then hired the Kennedy's to Manage the hotel

Yelp
We only got to stay here one night and unfortunately our flight was delayed so we got in very late and couldn't enjoy the hotels amenities. We never received any butler service or welcome reception. The hotel was not able to accommodate a late check-out and we were exhausted. We did receive breakfast in the room but it was not as extravagant as I had expected. The lobby was beautiful and the staff were friendly. The room was fairly large and the bathroom was nicely equipped. But honestly I preferred the Loutrel next door.

Yelp
The Spectator Hotel on State Street in downtown Charleston is gorgeous on the inside. We stopped here for drinks after dinner one evening. We were met with excellent customer service and a cozy 1920s speakeasy style bar. The drinks are pricey but the bartenders are very knowledgeable and they have a large selection of liquor and cocktails.
google avatar

Yelp
The hotel is situated in the heart of historic downtown. Steps away from the harbor, close to the shopping area and many restaurants. It's also a walking distance to most of the Charleston museums, galleries, and other attractions. The hotel is very comfortable. Located on a quiet street. Rooms are spacious, king size bed was very comfortable. Bathrooms are large enough for 2 people. Showers are great. Rooms are very clean. The bar is stocked with free water and soda. Delicious free snacks and coffee/tea. Our room came with free breakfast which was delivered to the room by a butler. The breakfast was delicious and we had a variety of options. The bartender was a bit overwhelming but friendly. The bar is the lobby is very cozy, delicious drink menu and friendly service. There is no restaurant in the hotel. You pay the price but it was worth it for us. Enjoy.

Yelp
I was very impressed with this speakeasy era themed bar (not an actual speakeasy). Apparently the bar was incorrectly labeled on maps. Anyways I went there and sat at the bar where I could talk to a very crafty and smart bartender who came up with all the drinks. Every drink was very well crafted and different. You can't find drinks like these anywhere else. The bartender was very good at conversation and the place overall is very low key and easy to carry a conversation.

Yelp
Amazing customer service, amazing room, amazing vibes. Could not recommend enough!!! We stayed a weekend in June and had a wonderful stay
google avatar

Damion W.

Yelp
Expensive but worth it! Lots of little touches like breakfast delivered daily, lots of yummy chocolates, and snacks and a refrigerator full of drinks... all included in the cost of the room. The service was so impressive. The butler was so knowledgeable about restaurants and the areas around the hotel and was super patient and welcoming. They steamed my jacket and had it looking perfect for dinner. The staff couldn't have been more responsive throughout the weekend. The hotel bar was super chic and also great service.

Yelp
WOW WOW WOW! This hotel is by far the nicest hotel I have ever stayed at. Customer service is superb! The "butlers" assigned to your room treat you like royalty. They go above and beyond for you. There is nothing they cannot accomplish when asked for help. The bar area is absolutely beautiful and the bar tender is extremely knowledgeable on all wines and craft cocktails. The rooms are pristine. I could go on and on about this hotel. I cannot wait to rerun! Worth every single penny.

Yelp
I don't even know where to begin. We just returned home from our anniversary trip to Charleston and our stay at The Spectator Hotel. It was one of the most enjoyable and memorable hotels I've had the pleasure of staying in, there's really nothing quite like it. Our suite was large and comfortable with king bed (the pillows, the duvet and linens were soooo nice), sofa, two large TVs, an amazing wraparound balcony where we drank our surprise happy anniversary champagne and people watched. Chuck was our primary butler, but Michelle was there for us as well, and they were both amazing! I could go on and on, but I'll just say THANK YOU Spectator, for making our anniversary so very special!
google avatar

Yelp
Stayed here right before Thanksgiving this year and this will be where I stay when I visit Charleston from now on. When we were waiting for our butler (that's right, our butler) to show us to our room, we were served a delicious welcome cocktail. The rooms were pristine with nice freebies inside (tasty, local treats). The breakfast the next morning was absolutely delicious and a large portion! Our butlers were so helpful and so very kind and ready to help with anything we needed. I really hated to leave, but can't wait to return to this gem!!

Yelp
LOVE the style and vibe this bar has to offer along with great drinks and service at The Spectator! We visited this bar twice during our visit to Charleston. We stayed at the French Quarter Inn and received a discount at this bar. Even if we hadn't received the discount we definitely still would have stopped by! The bartenders know how to make the drinks they offer. Which isn't always the case at bars these days! It's worth it! Must try! Cheers

Yelp
We had an amazing stay at the spectator! The room was beautiful and spotlessly clean, the bar had some creative and tasty cocktails, and every single staff member was so kind. We also loved the complimentary breakfast delivered to our room every morning and the complimentary drinks and snacks in our room. I had called before our trip to have champagne waiting in our room to celebrate our birthdays and not only did they have a complimentary bottle waiting, they also went to Carmella's and bought us a cake and left a sweet note. They really went above and beyond to make sure we had a great stay. The butler service is fantastic. Anything you need, they can get for you. And a special shout out to Chuck- he welcomed us and was the one that set up our birthday surprise. He couldn't have been nicer! Overall, I can't recommend this hotel enough. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
This hotel is very quaint and very well appointed. I enjoyed the bar a great deal. The location is perfect and I would definitely recommend this hotel for anyone interested in great customer service. This is a winner and would recommend it.

Yelp
Excellent staff, very accommodating and amazing rooms! Location is wonderful for getting around the city.

Yelp
I also had the pleasure of getting to experience the amazing bar at the Spectator with a group of some of my favorite Yelp friends. We walked in and Anna was the only one there. As we all made our way to the beautiful sitting area, she explained that, for real, she was the only one there and that she wasn't a bartender but would be that day as so many others had evacuated because of hurricane Irma. Since this was my first visit I looked over the menu for a speciality gin cocktail and settled on the Ginseng Gin Sling. It was great! I also got to try a sip of so many of the other speciality cocktails and they were all great. While we we're there the manager brought a cart full of free snacks and I thought, wow they really do love Yelp peeps!!! Turns out they do that everyday for happy hour but a girl can dream!! ;). It really was a fabulous place and I look forward to returning for more fun cocktails!!!

Yelp
This hotel is immaculate and you are so well taken care of and comfortable from the moment you check in. You are served drinks on check in, we got a coconut rum drink that was amazing. The in room snacks and drinks were so good. The complimentary breakfast in bed was such a nice touch. The room was really nice. The bar downstairs made great drinks. Lots of things to do within walking distance such as the market. Everyone who worked here was so nice.

Yelp
The spectator hotel is a lovely boutique hotel located in the French quarter. Our rooms was very comfortable & we loved the lavish continental breakfast. Service was awesome & the bar is fun & intimate. I love the old charm with amenities of today..

Yelp
An open letter review to future guests, This hotel is not listed properly online. This hotel has major construction + an entire building being erected next door (within 2 feet from your window). They did not inform us on the phone, nor on their website there was any construction going on. I read countless reviews of 5 stars, come to find out I find there sister hotel Harbor Inn has some of the same reviews, real sketch.. not saying there paying for good reviews but that hotel ALSO has a massive construction site across the street with low mention in the reviews. Usually these hotels go for $300-400, the lower prices make sense now. Also if you didn't know this hotel group owns about 10 hotels in Charleston. They would not offer a refund, nor change our room, wanted to actually up charge us to change rooms, shocking. We saw 0 guests in the hotel during our 12 hour stay. We checked out immediately the next morning due to them not working with us or offering a refund. As far as amenities and service go, their so called "butler" services were non existent. Nobody to help us unload our luggage, one guy showed me how the "fridge works" but that was the extent of "butler" services after checking in. It's basically concierge but every time in the lobby there was only one staff member who looked unhappy to be there. If COVID changed anything it should have been posted but they told us at check in our "butler" would be there to help, what butler?! The free snacks and waters in the room were a small bonus however the snacks were stale and they only offered water, sparkling water, and some jalapeno strawberry drink (no alcohol). This hotel is run down in the rooms, could call it charm of historical value or blatant negligence in repair and lack of care. Also the free breakfast is a joke, PRO TIP: select 3-5 of each item. If you selected every time on the breakfast menu it would all fit within a cereal bowl. While this hotel might be good without construction, this is NOT the place to stay currently if your looking for sleep or staff willing to help you out. Didn't even offer to comp the $36 valet that took 30 minutes every time. They also told me it's been going on a year and I see no reviews reflecting construction (very interesting). Advice to Spectator, shut it down until construction finishes, or help your guests actually, or post it online that your under construction and MAJOR construction next door. Thanks for wasting $500. Note: See Photos

Yelp
Such a wonderful time in the bar. I was surprised how busy the bar was at 4pm. So, don't chance getting their later. So many groups/people were disappointed not to find a seat. It's lovely decor and such pleasing drinks. Abigail, our waitress, and Rose, the bartender were super helpful. Didn't do any snacks because I was on the way to dinner. I'll be back.

Yelp
Our first time visiting Charleston and it is beautiful. This is the second friendliest place in the US after Hawaii. If you are in need of a Hotel in Charleston, this is the spot. Our room is beautiful, and the hotel is spotless. The Bar is spectacular as well. We are very happy and we can definitely recommend the Spectator.

Jeff C.

Yelp
Wow. You get a Butler who does anything and everything. Staff was amazing and location was absolutely perfect. Loved the Spectator!

Yelp
While visiting my son in Charleston, we decided to drop in for some after dinner drinks. The lounge is gorgeously decorated. The service and drinks were wonderful as well! We really enjoyed this bar and lounge and works not hesitate to visit again!

Yelp
Wow! Our stay this weekend at The Spectator Hotel was truly a five star experience through and through. The hotel is absolutely stunning and located in the central French Quarter of downtown Charleston. Every staff member we encountered was so kind and helpful from the valet to our butler, Michelle. Yes, this hotel is pricey, but for good reason. My husband and I couldn't believe how many "complimentary" things/ services they offered. You receive complimentary cocktails at check in (which were delicious by the way), complimentary snacks in each room (all locally sourced), complimentary Nespresso and non alcoholic beverages in each room's mini fridge (water bottles, Pellegrino, Coke, Diet Coke and Sweet Tea). Our favorite complimentary feature was the cheese board in the bar area- YUM! The interior design of The Spectator is so gorgeous and the attention to detail is so apparent. Our room was so light and bright, the bed was super comfy and the bathroom was enormous! I loved all of the local bath products as well. Be sure to make time for drinks in the lobby bar because it is equally as stunning and the ambiance is on point. We are already trying to figure out which weekend we can come back in the Fall to experience more of this amazing property!

Yelp
The Spectator was an amazing hotel in the French Quarter area of Charleston - right across from Market Hall. We were warmly greeted through our room was not ready (as we were very early). The staff took our bags and told us that we could change in their first floor restrooms if necessary. When we returned, they recognized us, gave us our welcome drink, and helped us to our rooms. The butlers are a nice touch - ours (Alexander) - brought us upstairs and gave us a room tour (showed us the complimentary mini bar, how to work the tv, etc). He also had great recommendations for restaurants and things to do. Luckily, he also had time to press a jacket we needed that night for dinner. Every evening, there's a reception in the bar with cheese/meat. It was excellent quality snacks and the bar is a great atmosphere. Definitely worth a few minutes to sit there if you have time. We could walk almost anywhere we needed to go, but there are pedicabs and taxis/ubers if leaving the area is required. We took a pedicab to dinner one night and it was very convenient and inexpensive. The staff always welcomed us and greeted us by name, answered questions and overall helped us quite a bit. Breakfast brought to the room is a wonderful touch and very appreciated. The staff was always very friendly and accommodating but not overbearing. Water and candy in the lobby are a nice touch as is the coffee service (with to-go snacks) for breakfast are a wonderful treat also. Everything is top notch and I would definitely stay again when in Charleston. Not inexpensive, but the hospitality is excellent.

Yelp
Had a great stay here, except for waking up with roughly 30 bug bites on my arms and legs then seeing what looked like bug excrement on the sheets (I'm no expert). I very discreetly reported it at the front desk, they never got in touch with me, so I reached back out to them. Management hadn't heard anything about me reporting it, but then they began to take it seriously. They told me they had it inspected and it was free of any pests, so do with that what you will. They apologized that it was a "sore spot" for me and that was that. I know nothing about room pests and wasn't looking for anything from them, all I know is I went to bed and woke up with what you see in the pics, so it should be noted in the review.

Yelp
The Spectator and Allen are superb. I love this environment, vintage and classy. Allen, interesting, witty, and a good barkeep. I had the Flappers Delight and it was excellent. On a second visit I tried the Kloss. I'm a fan of fruity drinks, so this was recommended but there is an interesting aftertaste. When I asked what it was, I was told it was vinegar to draw out some of the sweetness. Not my favorite drink, but just because of personal preference. I do love the vibe and artistry in the drinks of this place.

Yelp
This review is for the bar area only. On Saturday, quite a few of our friends got together to enjoy the surprisingly cool weather and low crowds due to an incoming hurricane, Irma. There were 15 of us, not too unruly, despite our days wandering and this being the 3rd stop. We stepped in and met young Anna. She immediately started with an apology that she was 'just a server' not a bartender, but would do the best she could for us. I promise you, this gal shone! She brought her 'A' game and huge props to a beautiful, strong woman being 'left behind' to handle things!! She damn well did The Spectator right and kept their superior rep intact when the rest of the town left... The drinks were superb, mind you not a simple glass of wine or a tap beer amongst us. We all ordered one of the craft cocktails and Anna did not miss a beat! A few of us left early, as we had dinner plans, but as we were leaving a beautiful tray of cheeses, nuts, jams etc... was wheeled in by a gentleman that says this is done nightly. The drinks may be a tad bit higher in price here, but definitely a place I can highly recommend!

Yelp
5 stars isn't enough for this property. The location right on the market, the most comfortable bed ever, great in room amenities, and the staff is above and beyond. We were in town for our honeymoon and I cant wait to go back for our anniversary!!!

Yelp
It's no wonder this is voted one of the best hotels in Charleston!!! We came here for the first time a few years ago and we've never been to another hotel in Charleston since. The staff is so accommodating. They never make you feel like you are inconveniencing them in anyway. Let's face it we've all been to hotels where are you feel like your needs are an inconvenience. They really do go out of their way to make your experience amazing. We have never had to wait long for our personal butler (which is another perk of staying here). They have wonderful bikes that are complementary. This is a great way to see Charleston by the way. Everything in the room is complementary. Including the minibar! Who does that? They do! And then there is the bar! Alan the bartender! We get the same amazing bartender every year. He makes the most amazing drinks. Definitely try the one that is after the great Lebowski. It is a Coffee liqueur drink called "the dude imbibes". It's fabulous. All the staff was amazing but there was one that really stood out besides Alan our bartender. That was Alexander who served us in the bar the first night we arrived. He took the time to give us some Great tips on sightseeing. I thank you thank you thank you spectator once again, see you next year or sooner

Addie L.

Yelp
One of the best hotels I have ever stayed. The service was impeccable. We stayed here for my Moms Birthday, they completely rolled out the red carpet. The location is prime. We did a ton of walking-- The breakfast butler service to the room every morning was probably my favorite. 5 stars all around, friendliness, cleanliness, asethics, quality of amenities, location, etc. I will definitely stay here again if I come back to Charleston.

Yelp
We stayed at the Spectator recently with my aunt and 12 year old. The customer service is top notch. From check in to check out the staff was so courteous. The butler service, snacks and drinks were all great touches. My daughter asked if we could stay there again the next time we are in Charleston and I agree it will be the first place we check for availability. It's pricey but I think you get more in terms of included features compared to similarly priced hotels.

Yelp
Amazing hotel. My granddaughter (11) was spoiled by everyone. Pricey but we got a great deal midweek. Would definitely return.

Yelp
I attended a Charleston Blog Society event at The Spectator last night. It was my first visit and I was blown away by the hotel's lobby, bar and rooms. The hotel has a 1920s feel to it. One employee told me they wanted people to feel like they were walking into Gatsby's home. The bar at The Spectator is probably the coolest I've ever seen. You felt like you were in someone's swanky library. We checked out the cocktail menu and were amazed at the unique combinations (butternut squash was in one). I choose the classic Knickerbocker cocktail ($12) and it was so good. We were taken on a tour of two rooms (rooms start over $300/night). The bathrooms were so big and bright. The rooms were pretty and had fridges with complimentary drinks and snacks. Breakfast is also complimentary and brought to your room. We had a great night and I would love to go back for drinks with friends again soon!

Yelp
If you are coming to Charleston, do yourself a favor and stay at The Spectator. What an amazing time we had. First the customer service couldn't be better. Nicest people who are there for YOU. Whatever you need, whenever you need it. The room was fantastic. Clean, quiet, comfortable and they offer courtesy breakfasts that you can order the night before to be delivered to your room. These breakfasts were wonderful. The bar, even during this pandemic had the coolest vide. Honestly I travel more than the average guy, and I can't remember getting this level of care at every turn. To the hard working folks at The Spectator thank you for all you did to make our stay amazing. To those thinking of visiting...book it now. Cheers.

Yelp
I hope everyone has the luck of getting such a beautiful room and such a fantastic concierge/butler as Chuck. His special touches on our first anniversary/first time in Charleston have been over the top fantastic. Kennedy @ the check-in desk was very kind and helpful. Everything about this hotel is unique and well thought out/appointed. I've never felt so VIP before. Will never forget this experience!

Yelp
I'm reviewing the BAR part of this beautiful hotel. My husband and I went here with another couple for drinks after dinner. I didn't know what to order, i only that I knew I wanted something with rum. The bartender was great! Very helpful. She made me a delicious old fashioned with bourbon and rum. We all enjoyed our drinks. Love the ATMOSPHERE. Classy. Hopefully we'll get to stay a night in the actual hotel someday.

Yelp
From the moment you pull up to the door you can feel the hospitality. Our stay at The Spectator was exceptional. Our butler Chuck walked us to our room and gave us a nice overview of the room and pointed out some important land marks outside our windows. He was very attentive to our must dos and gave great suggestions. Our room was always nicely stocked with cold drinks and snacks. Elaine who took care of our room surprised us with a wonderful shot in a tiny edible chocolate cup. It was so tasty! I always had to grab a glass if water when I came inside the hotel because it had tons of fruit and mint. Just another detail that makes your stay that much better! My husband and I will definitely be back! The Spectator has set the bar very high! Congratulations on being recognized as an outstanding establishment! Your employees are top notch and gave great southern hospitality!

Yelp
I cannot say enough good things about The Spectator. My husband and I visited for a long weekend to celebrate my birthday, and our entire experience was top notch. From the arrival welcome cocktail, to the personal butler service, to the free drinks and snacks in the room, complimentary breakfast to our room each morning, turn down service with a different dessert cocktail each evening, and the list goes on. The staff at The Spectator was extremely friendly and welcoming. The level of service was unbelievable. There are a lot of highly rated hotels in Charleston, but for the overall value and experience, it's hard not to place The Spectator at the very top of that list. This place is doing it right and we will be back.

Yelp
Review is for the bar only. This has been on my list to check out for as long as it's been open, and I'm sad to say, I've only just gotten around to stopping in. It's nestled inside the swanky boutique hotel, The Spectator. The bar itself is decorated beautifully with combinations of light and dark shades. I'm into it. The bartenders - or craft masters - Allen and John were great. They each took their time in curating the drinks, explaining the recipes, and honing the details down to a science. The craft cocktails are seriously a work of art. I saw them make drinks with toasted rosemary, a spritz of perfume-like spray, foam, you name it. Attention to detail at it's finest. Allen explained that most drinks are made to strike a balance between sour and sweet, but offered to customize any drink on the menu. While the drinks are pricey, they are totally worth it. We tried four drinks and each was better than the last. For now, there are no food options. Don't forget to ask for the happy hour menu - we didn't know one existed until we settled up. Finally, taking a cue from Mike M., the bathrooms were equally as nice as the rest of the venue. This is definitely a place to impress a date or treat yo'self.

Yelp
There is a reason this hotel has won major awards for being the best in the US. The rooms are great and the service is impeccable. The bar downstairs is lovely and a great place to have a cocktail whether your day is winding up or winding down. This is THE place to stay in Charleston.
