"On the recommendation of a Post and Courier reader, critic Hanna Raskin visits the decades-old Barbadoes Room at the Mills house hotel. While the tourist-filled eatery is often overlooked by locals, Raskin enjoys her meal there. “Over the course of three visits, I was impressed again and again by the loveliness that executive chef Justin Hunt is smuggling on to plates,” she writes. While there are some misses, like the service, Raskin says: The Mills House’s Barbadoes Room Serves Surprisingly Trendy Food in Stately Hotel Setting" - Erin Perkins

Excellent meal!! We had a late lunch in town, plus it was extra hot out so we decided to stay in the hotel for dinner to make it easy. Started with a little she-crab soup which was very tasty. I had a medium rare salmon with crispy skin over cauliflower mousse and baby beets. It was perfect. My son got the cheeseburger with pimento cheese and tomato jam- which he really loved. Daughter kept it simple with some plain buttered pasta with pine nuts- you could definitely tell it was housemade though. My wife had the green goddess salad with crab and roasted radishes-AMAZING! I hate radishes but these tasted so good, I finished what she didn't. We ended the meal by sharing the flourless chocolate cake with raspberry sauce and the challah bread pudding with candied bacon. Both were excellent. I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone who likes good food.

Great place to eat, lots if history in the building. Food was delicious, service was above and beyond.

The French Fries were good… that’s the best I got. Service was horrible… with the exception of the bartender who wasn’t very friendly either but he can make a drink! We had a reservation, there was signage asking us to wait to be seated. After waiting a while, we finally wandered in to see where we needed to sit. The bartender seated us. I ordered the Fried Chicken Sandwich and the chicken was mostly super dark meat which tripped me out a little. 🤢 I was finishing my fries since I dissected my sandwich and ate the bacon off of it and my husband ordered a drink and our waiter tossed a napkin in my plate and picked it up while I was still eating 🤭 Then tried to give it back with the napkin laid in the middle of it when he realized I was eating. Just overall not a great experience and Charleston food is too good to waste a dinner here 😬

Went back for brunch. The shrimp and grits were good. The mimosas had more champagne than juice, which is awesome! The hostess was just as nice and friendly as the last time I was there. They also had a guy singing and playing the piano which I thought was a nice touch. Will be back!

We had such a pleasant breakfast this past Sunday while visiting Charleston for our anniversary. Our waitress was so attentive and friendly. I can't remember her name but she was a very sweet black girl. The food was amazing. The pianist also added a great atmosphere while dining. We will definitely make this one of our favorites when in Charleston again.

Nice ambiance, the grouper dish was excellent. However their signature cowgirl ribeye wasn't good. Half of it smelled and tasted rank, asked the chef they said that's common for dry aged steaks. I've had plenty before that didn't smell like that. The meat was also too dry for our liking. Dessert was only okay the chocolate cake was like something you can get from a grocery store. Server was great though and made it a nice dining experience.

Went with my brother-in-law to celebrate my birthday. The waitress senu from playing in a band with her husband. The service was great the Bloody Mary was excellent and the omelets were way bigger than I thought! Kind friendly and nice people. Give it a shot if not just go in and have a Bloody Mary!
