Critic Appreciates the ‘Smuggled’ ‘Loveliness’ at the Barbadoes Room at Mills House - Eater Carolinas

"On the recommendation of a Post and Courier reader, critic Hanna Raskin visits the decades-old Barbadoes Room at the Mills house hotel. While the tourist-filled eatery is often overlooked by locals, Raskin enjoys her meal there. “Over the course of three visits, I was impressed again and again by the loveliness that executive chef Justin Hunt is smuggling on to plates,” she writes. While there are some misses, like the service, Raskin says: The Mills House’s Barbadoes Room Serves Surprisingly Trendy Food in Stately Hotel Setting" - Erin Perkins

Excellent meal!! We had a late lunch in town, plus it was extra hot out so we decided to stay in the hotel for dinner to make it easy. Started with a little she-crab soup which was very tasty. I had a medium rare salmon with crispy skin over cauliflower mousse and baby beets. It was perfect. My son got the cheeseburger with pimento cheese and tomato jam- which he really loved. Daughter kept it simple with some plain buttered pasta with pine nuts- you could definitely tell it was housemade though. My wife had the green goddess salad with crab and roasted radishes-AMAZING! I hate radishes but these tasted so good, I finished what she didn't. We ended the meal by sharing the flourless chocolate cake with raspberry sauce and the challah bread pudding with candied bacon. Both were excellent. I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone who likes good food.

Outstanding spot for brunch! Had steak/eggs and Mills Bfast. Really nice dining area! Relaxing.

Great place to eat, lots if history in the building. Food was delicious, service was above and beyond.

Google
The French Fries were good… that’s the best I got. Service was horrible… with the exception of the bartender who wasn’t very friendly either but he can make a drink! We had a reservation, there was signage asking us to wait to be seated. After waiting a while, we finally wandered in to see where we needed to sit. The bartender seated us. I ordered the Fried Chicken Sandwich and the chicken was mostly super dark meat which tripped me out a little. 🤢 I was finishing my fries since I dissected my sandwich and ate the bacon off of it and my husband ordered a drink and our waiter tossed a napkin in my plate and picked it up while I was still eating 🤭 Then tried to give it back with the napkin laid in the middle of it when he realized I was eating. Just overall not a great experience and Charleston food is too good to waste a dinner here 😬

Google
Went back for brunch. The shrimp and grits were good. The mimosas had more champagne than juice, which is awesome! The hostess was just as nice and friendly as the last time I was there. They also had a guy singing and playing the piano which I thought was a nice touch. Will be back!

We had such a pleasant breakfast this past Sunday while visiting Charleston for our anniversary. Our waitress was so attentive and friendly. I can't remember her name but she was a very sweet black girl. The food was amazing. The pianist also added a great atmosphere while dining. We will definitely make this one of our favorites when in Charleston again.

Google
Nice ambiance, the grouper dish was excellent. However their signature cowgirl ribeye wasn't good. Half of it smelled and tasted rank, asked the chef they said that's common for dry aged steaks. I've had plenty before that didn't smell like that. The meat was also too dry for our liking. Dessert was only okay the chocolate cake was like something you can get from a grocery store. Server was great though and made it a nice dining experience.

Went with my brother-in-law to celebrate my birthday. The waitress senu from playing in a band with her husband. The service was great the Bloody Mary was excellent and the omelets were way bigger than I thought! Kind friendly and nice people. Give it a shot if not just go in and have a Bloody Mary!

Yelp
Found this place while googling restaurant for lunch on Sunday. This restaurant located inside the Mills House Charleston hotel in downtown area. We parked at the nearby parking garage and walked into this beautiful restaurant. The host seated us right away and we like that we can look out the porch from our table. Our server was good in giving drinks recommendation and offer hamburger kids meal for our son. I had the wild mushrooms quiche with salad and a side of fresh fruits. The rest of my family ordered their Holy City breakfast which consist of two eggs your way, bacon/ sausage, potatoes/ grits, the also give you a choice of biscuit/ sourdough/ white bread , and a side and they all want fresh fruits. It was a very hearty meals and tasted so good. I am glad we found this place and we are planning to come next time to try out their dinner menu.

Yelp
Stopped in for a quick drink and app while staying at the Mills House Hotel. We were able to get seated right away and order drinks. I wanted a fun mocktail and our server was able to work with the bartender to make me a fun custom drink (although a bit expensive) We split the caprese salad, which was a nice and light treat. Decor was great in the bar and they had a large dining room and an outdoor space. Would definitely be back when I'm in town

Yelp
This place has a cute atmosphere. We went for an early breakfast. It's bright and clean. The server was nice and attentive. Unfortunately, the food was a miss for me. I ordered the avocado toast and there was an option to add mushrooms for an extra $4. I thought that sounded nice to have mushrooms on my toast. When the food came out, I was disappointed to find the mushrooms were on the side and not on the avocado toast like I thought it would be. The mushrooms did not taste seasoned. I would not have paid for a side of mushrooms had I known. The avocado toast itself was okay. I personally prefer a thicker bread for my toast so was disappointed in the bread choice as well. Overall, my meal was just okay. I would potentially go back and try a dessert or something else to see if my meal was just a one off.

Yelp
amazing!! Great great food and a nice outdoor dining area. Our waiter was kind and seemed happy to serve us. We started off with the picked shrimp app which was sooo good. For my main fish I got the market fish which was seriously amazing. We got some veggies for the table as well to share. I would highly recommend this place! Beautiful hotel as well.

Yelp
Great restaurant inside the Mills House hotel. There is also a bar section with a few tables, but the restaurant only area is very big with plenty of tables. They have appetizers and entrees. We started with the hummus appetizer, and it was very tasty. I had the tuna special entree that came with mushrooms and fingerling potatoes. It was a very nice meal. My husband had the ribeye steak entree. It came with grilled asparagus, fingerling potatoes and a greens salad. It was very plentiful and very tasty. For dessert, we had the cheesecake.

Yelp
The Iron Rose was just okay to me, the food was mixed, some really good and some not good. The egg frittata seemed undercooked and the mushrooms in it smelled off, not good especially at $22. The butter bean hummus and the pimento cheese appetizers were delicious. The B.E.C. Everything bagel was average, but it is a basic breakfast sandwich. Service was okay and the decor is nice, they have a good outdoor area. Probably will not eat here again though with all the amazing restaurants in Charleston.

Yelp
Excellent dinner, and very convenient when staying in the Mills House hotel. When I first looked at the restaurant from the hotel side, all I saw was the bar and I didn't realize what a nice restaurant was just off to the right side of the bar. We enjoyed the hummus appetizer, and I had one of the best ribeye steaks I've ever enjoyed as an entree. Landon was our server, and he provided just the right level of support and attention throughout our meal. This could be a great spot for a romantic meal, a business meal, or even just a nice night out. Pricing is at the higher end, but not at all unreasonable - we averaged about $80 per person all in, including tip and tax. Reservations were easy to make on Resy.

Yelp
We were sat in the courtyard during a slow time and waited 15 minutes for a server and nobody showed up. A server did come out 3 times and even sat another couple but never acknowledged us. Got up and left.

Yelp
We stayed at Mills House Hotel and got introduced to this restaurant then being in our hotel! So lucky are we! We got drinks here our first night in the courtyard with our pup! Love a dog friendly restaurant! During a storm later in the trip we grabbed brunch there and they couldn't have been nicer! Our server was so so sweet! Told us to bring our pup back anytime! The food was great! The bacon was extra crispy in the best way! Mimosas were fantastic! The restaurant is so pretty and the courtyard is too! I love the string lights and the fountain!

Yelp
On this beautiful spring day, I decided to enjoy Saturday brunch in Charleston at Iron Rose, nestled within the historic Mills House Hotel. The courtyard setting provided the perfect ambiance to savor a delicious cocktail and bite while listening to live music. I started with a refreshing Cranberry Gimlet, followed by the delectable Surf & Turf Benedict, featuring a perfectly cooked filet and crab cake topped with poached eggs and lemon béarnaise. To round off the meal, I indulged in the bourbon-based Black Flower cocktail. Although the service was a bit slow, the overall experience was enjoyable, especially with the addition of live music, which truly elevated the dining experience.

Yelp
My husband and I got a late night to-go burger and bread pudding. The space was beautifully decorated and service was quick and friendly for us to order right at kitchen closing time. Our burger was good. The bacon onion jam was delicious and a feature. The fries served with were missing the mark. They needed to be crispier and seasoned as opposed to undercooked and bland. The most disappointing piece of our late night snack was the bread pudding. It featured one sad looking small ball of bread cut in half. I was curious how the chocolate chips would taste as I hadn't had bread pudding with chocolate and I can say I don't need to again. The sauce served in the side was good but very spirit forward and almost needed more sweetness and less alcohol flavor. Would also have been nice to have some homemade ice cream or whipped cream to help meld the flavors together.

Yelp
In town visiting for the 4th of July and wow! This is actually one of the oldest restaurants in South Carolina up to date and they have adjusted and reinvented themselves throughout the years while preserving the history in the architecture as well as mannerisms (the warmth of a southerner that's welcoming and kind) the service was very smooth and welcoming and the food was very good, specially the salad! The burger is extremely juice so please do yourself a favor and enjoy it while visiting (bring pants you can unbuckle to make space for the belly lol)

Yelp
Walked past this place a few times while visiting Charleston and eventually decided to stop in. We were impressed! Started with the shrimp app and then got the black grouper and half chicken for dinner, followed by the crunch bar for dessert. Everything was delicious! The shrimp was spicy and tangy, exactly what I wanted. My fish was perfectly cooked and the lemon-y butter sauce was perfection. I'm used to places skimping on artichoke but there was actually a good amount of it in the fish dish! My husband had the chicken which he said was good - crispy, moist, and herbaceous. Finally the crunch bar was a great ending, very decadent and the perfect size to split. It's a pretty location and the waitress was very on top of it and super sweet. All around no complaints!

Yelp
Such a lovely place ! Located inside/outside of the Mills house hotel ! Scenery is super chic & cute Indoor & outdoor seating with the outdoor patio overlooking a Beautiful fountain ! The indoor seating is GORG as well ! The stuff crab with grits was on the special tonight and was absolutely delish ! My girlfriend got the burger and she wanted to save half, but it was so good she ate it ALL LOL! We came in on a Friday evening and was seated immediately! I hear they are known for the breakfast so definitely have to come back and try that !

Yelp
Went for brunch with some friends who were in town. Drinks were yummy and the food was good, but I did feel it was a bit over priced for what we got. I definitely recommend trying to sit out in the patio if it's a nice day

Yelp
Visited daily while staying at the Mill House. Enjoyed a quiet yet busy later afternoon cocktail and appetizers. Inside bar is nice with tables and chair seating. Bartenders take pride in their drinks as well as discussing food items from the kitchen. Opportunity to be outside on the patio is a beautiful place with seating, fire, and water fountain. We found this to a warm and friendly place each day. Cocktails were great, diverse beer selection, and delicious appetizers.

Yelp
The service at Iron Rose Restaurant in Charleston was incredibly slow. We sat for an hour and 45 minutes, and the servers didn't even clear our plates. The watermelon salad did arrive, but it wasn't worth the calories. The fries were greasy, the chicken tenders were gross, and the wedge salad was edible but not enjoyable. Overall, a very disappointing experience.

Yelp
Great atmosphere in the Mills House. While the place is always busy they give good service. Love the martinis. I have had a few of their salads on separate visits and they were all delicious. Others in my party had the burger and raves about it. I will definitely go back.

Austin B.

Yelp
Asked for medium rare stake, it came out raw. I asked them to just heat it up a bit more but they brought be a new steak and it was only slightly less raw, still having random raw points in the steak. There was also no seasoning at all on the steak, maybe a touch of salt in a few places but not even the entire steak. My fiancé's rapini was also unseasoned and rubbery being nearly impossible to chew. We were also served a bit late(waiter came to us 2 min in, we told him we werent ready, but then it took another 28 min to get our orders placed)but were told it was due to another party checking out, which is fine. Given the extreme waits and food being undercooked twice, I was expecting some form of compensation on the tab. Check came out full price. I tipped my 20% to be respectful of the waiters time but i simply cant recommend this place to anyone. Also, whoever chose the bread to pair the pimento cheese and bacon jam is a criminal. Great cheese and jam, served with over seasoned thin dry crackers. No matter how much cheese used, you only taste cracker dust and everything seasoning.

Yelp
This restaurant is inside the swanky Mills House hotel in the historic French quarter. While it's only been open a few months, the word is out and it was buzzing with people. If you can, go on a Thursday- half off bottles of wine and live music inside the bar area. The restaurant's ambiance and decor is cool, sleek and modern. Food was good. Drinks were delicious and they have a nice selection of wines. Hayden our server was exceptional. It was my birthday so they brought out a complimentary bread pudding dessert. It was just meh. Then we went to the bar. The entertainment was great. Up tempo songs kept the customers including me engaged. I'd definitely go back and hang at the bar. Be sure to stop in the courtyard - great spot for selfies.

Yelp
While the location was very convenient in downtown Charleston, they did not wow me for the price that we paid. While the burger was $21, it was just a burger and not something that was anything special, though it was the most affordable option. Two friends got some of the appetizers / "veggie" dishes, and if you're not hungry, the flavor was good. After we were seated, the servers had a miscommunication and forgot about our table, so we waited a while before we were given waters or any help. Overall, it was a mediocre experience.

Megan M.

Yelp
We ate at Iron Rose for breakfast while staying at Mills House. We made a reservation in advance but these were definitely not needed as the restaurant was almost empty when we arrived. The restaurant is very sleek and fresh in terms of decor but did lack the kind of traditional Charleston charm I had hoped for in Mills House. It felt quite corporate and generic. The menu was decent though and our server was accommodating of my request to slightly alter one of the entrées so that caramel wasn't used. My French toast was absolutely delicious and quite possibly one of the best I've ever eaten. The only downside was that it was slightly cold in the centre.
google avatar

Yelp
Iron Rose was a delicious stop during my visit to Charleston, I sat at the bar and had a great time. The bartender was a red headed woman that was super pleasant and gave good recommendations. I was the only person there for a while so it was nice having someone to chat with. I ordered a margarita, the pickled shrimp appetizer, and the burger with fries. Everything was amazing; well seasoned food that was also beautiful. I loved the sleek decor, the gold accents really helped things pop. The restaurant is located inside of a hotel, which looked quite nice as well. I was told they'd recently renovated the space, everything definitely looks new and updated!

Yelp
Good pop in for food and drinks! Staff was welcoming and nice. Drinks and food tasty. Inside is beautiful and the seating outside was very relaxing.

Yelp
Ambiance is great on the patio. The fountain provided beautiful scenery and background noise. Service was good. She was very sweet however we didn't receive a new set of silverware post appetizers. Our dessert also came out with no new silverware. However... she was new so this could be a learning curve and not a reflection of the establishment. In addition there is no manager walking around to check on the tables. Food was good. Davis Opinion: Tuna Tartare - Wonderful presentation and taste, hints of ginger and citrus made the freshness pop. Steak - A bit tough on the outside but the temperature was correct and had a good center. Pot de crème- very good with a great balance of espresso and cookie crumble. Presley Opinion: Tuna very one note with overpowering of ginger chunks. Crisps were over cooked and could be rolled thinner so it's a more enjoyable bite overall yummy! No fishy taste and great knife skills on the cut of the fish. My chicken was just small pieces of dry broiled meat with bland smashed potatoes. Asparagus was good, and so was jue Dessert was the best part of the dinner, espresso and crumbled cookie with the cold butterscotch crème was so yummy!

Yelp
So I've had this place picked out for awhile now for our 6th anniversary! We do "old school" and year 6 is iron! :) When we arrived, they went to seat us inside, but I was actually too cold and asked if we could be seated outside. I'm actually glad I asked because they have a such a beautiful outdoor space with a large fireplace and water fountain. We were pretty hungry, but I wanted the large @ss steak that was on the regular menu and was told by our waiter it was absolutely worth it! So sorry I forgot his name, but he had a mullet and he rocked it!! Lol!! And we never usually make it for restaurant week anywhere because our anniversary is on the 22nd, but our sitter wasn't available this year on that night,. so we knew we had to get one of the restaurant week meals. What's better than a surf and turf, right!?? Right of the rip, we ordered two extra dirty martinis, which were divine. I usually only order these on special nights somewhere worth my while. We actually had two each, even though our server told us he was also getting us champagne with strawberries-on the house. We both split the appetizer, which was Pickled local shrimp- Mustard Seeds / Jalapeno / Citrus Aioli / Herb Salad. The entree was Grilled swordfish steak, but they were out of it, so they had tile fish in its place served the same way- Vidalia Onions / Plum Tomatoes / Pea Tendrils / Castelvetrano Onions and it was delicious!! And of course the big @ss steak! Droooolllllll A grilled 14oz NY Strip/ Duck Fat Hash Browns / Watercress / Green Garlic Salsa Verde. It was cooked perfectly (medium) and even though it was large, and I was stuffed, and we shared, I wanted more lol! Then we ended with the Chocolate crunch bar- Hazelnut Brittle / Chocolate Sauce. Omg! It reminded me of a boujie Kit Kat and was worth every calorie it contained. My husband agreed. Anyways, this was our first time and surely won't be our last! The outside atmosphere, service and food were beyond both our expectations!!!

Yelp
Came in for breakfast and our server came over immediately after we were seated. I ordered the Croissant - a sandwich with scrambled eggs, smoked bacon and cheddar cheese with a side of fries. My husband ordered the Holy City breakfast - two eggs, potatoes or grits, bacon or sausage and toast. My sandwich was good but the croissant kept falling apart. However, the fries were my absolute favorite. I told our waiter they tasted like McDonald's French fries! They were hot and salty perfection!! Our waiter was great. I love it when they just bring you a drink refill without having to ask for it. The restaurant was beautiful and I love the atmosphere in there, it's very relaxing.

Yelp
Shoutout to Sharon and Melanie at the bar who gave us some great tips on places to check out- were from miami so we wanted to make sure we didnt miss local favs We didnt have food but we had drinks- and there was live music which was amazing The ambiance and decor was perfect- they have a beautiful outdoor area w a fire place- and amazing photo op pics- for my ghost lovers it is said to be one of the most haunted places in a charleston! Def a must see even if its just for a drink

Yelp
This place is great! My first time visiting was Valentine's Day 2023 - my mom was in town so this is were I took her. What great service. Or server was DeQuandra (I may have spelled incorrectly :( ) but she was great. We were initially greeted by the hostess Rene, also - the Executive Chef stopped by and offered to take our pictures out by the fountain but his assistant Prashant beat him to it. We were informed about the Sunday brunch which included live music and a Bloody Mary bar (YES!) So we went back that Sunday for Bruch. Yum - great selections. This time our server was Abby; she was excellent as well. Then finally a co-worker came in town that Thursday and we ended our night at the Iron Rose - cocktails and enjoying the beautiful patio. Oh, and I almost forgot. We walked the hotel section. If you like art then it's worth a peak.

Yelp
We stopped in the Iron Rose Restaurant for a late snack. It's a very pretty restaurant in the Mills House Hilton Hotel. My husband had a hamburger and fries. He said the burger was middle of the road. The burger didn't have much flavor. The garnishes were good. I had the pimento cheese spread. The bread that came with it was over toasted. It was VERY hard. Our waitress was nice. The hotel gives your a $10 a day food credit if you charge your food to your room. We only used it in the restaurant once in the four days we were there.
google avatar

Opal D.

Yelp
Clean modern interior. Great waitress who was attentive without hovering. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time. The steak and eggs were cooked perfectly to order. I needed a steak knife (was provided a butter knifeglad no one was watching me sawing my steak into bite sized pieces like a psycho)... should be automatically provided to patrons ordering steak and eggs as is typical at many restaurants... minor issue and I hope they read and fix.

Yelp
Family Friendly Date Night at the long awaited @ironrosecharleston inside the @millshousehotel! We loved it - not only is the dining great but we love all of the kid friendly things and happenings at the hotel! Here's the run down: it's located on Meeting St, inside the Mills House Hotel, Charleston's oldest pink hotel! They have a pretty tree inside, a courtyard with a fireplace, and a cute bench swing for the kiddies in their lounge area beside the bar! If y'all ask the front of house for a s'mores packet they may give you one for s'mores after dinner if they have some left! Menu Recomendations: their house champagne is so good, and the Easy Does it drink with @titosvodka for apps, def get the Tuna Tartare* (fave w/ a curry flavor twist) and a classic is the Oysters Gratin with a spinach and parm, as well as the Bacon Jam Pimento Cheese a southern staple! Hubby and I favored the Flat Iron Steak - it is marinated in a peanut miso relish and the potatoes were cooked to perfection Mavs burgers and fries were also a hit at the table - we stole a French fry or two Also, there is a whole section of vegetables and crudités if you're opting for vegan / vegetarian options! Amazing service too!

Yelp
A blessing of a restaurant. Offering indoor and outdoor seating in the midst of a beautiful courtyard and fountain Iron Rose is an escape of a dining experience. With choice specialty cocktails and an provocative menu that changes seasonally, this spot keeps you relaxed and on your toes. It really trumps the perceptions of hotel dining by offering a complete and fulfilling experience.
google avatar

Yelp
Food was so subpar. Ambiance is great. Staff was friendly but the food was so lackluster. Fried chicken sandwich had no flavor. Fries were cardboard. Watermelon salad was gross
google avatar

Lauren H.

Yelp
Iron Rose was an ok stop on our trip. The #1 main issue that seemed to seep into the entire experience was the noise level. It was almost impossible to hear the other members of my party speak. The food was ok, we ordered several different dishes but nothing really stood out as a winner and I was very disappointed in their cheese grits. This is Charleston, one would think this came second nature to the chefs around here. All in all it was fine but for the price point I'm not sure it balances out. I don't think I'd go back.
google avatar

Grace M.

Yelp
The ambiance was great! And outside looked really nice! Food was pretty decent! The fries were good (needed salt) . Tomato was unnecessary. I liked this place and will try it for dinner!

Yelp
The new Iron Rose Bar and Restaurant is tucked cozily inside the iconic pink Mills House hotel. Iron Rose is everything that downtown Charleston needs- exceptional Southern Coastal cuisine, knowledgeable, above-par service, and a romantic ambiance. Highly recommend the grilled swordfish & chocolate praline crunch bar. There's easy valet parking in front of The Mills House or there are several parking garages close by. Outdoor courtyard also available for seating with a large fireplace. Open for breakfast, lunch & dinner plus brunch on the weekends. Full bar as well. Full reel on Instagram on "Things To Do in Charleston". 10/10

Yelp
This is just a beautiful space. Tons of old historic architecture but with a fresh, modern design. Lighting was great but acoustics were a bit harsh. I recommend a table against a wall here to cut down on echoing conversations. Service was quick , pleasant, and helpful. Nice cocktail and interesting wines. Dessert was delicious. I'd recommend for a drink in the courtyard or bar area or dessert w coffee, martini, and gelato. Entrees were tasty but not very memorable. Blue Cheese chips and desserts were our favorites. Great environment to take photos. Check out the adjacent public lobby for great art display. Or coffee shop during the day.

Yelp
Went out a few weeks ago and had a delightful cocktail experience! Loads of seating from indoors to an outdoor patio. I forgot the name of my drink but it had gin in it and a lovely orchid flower. My gal friends enjoyed their drinks too and I tried a sip of the espresso martini and Paloma and 10/10!! Quick service at the bar too, our bartender slung drinks left and right so kudos for her killin' it!

Yelp
Located in the newly restored Mills House Hotel the Iron Rose Bar and Restaurant is a nice replacement for the old "Barbados Room". Even though the former version of the Mills's House Hotel dining room was quaint and had an "island feeling" and was certainly fitting and appropriate for historic Charleston, major renovations were much needed! Please note that updating is currently going on ( although almost at completion) throughout the hotel, which is now under the Hilton Hotels, Curio Collection and no longer under the Wyndham Grand Hotels brand. I was curious about where they got the name "Iron Rose" and apparently the name pays homage to one of the Charleston symbols around town , including the Noisette rose and the city's rich tradition of ironwork. The Noisette rose is an heirloom rose, is specific to the South, and dates back at least 50 years. It was good to see the same staff and servers again in the newly designed dining room - -particularly Robin and Melanie --who have been longtime employees and are both top notch and professional grade! They are friendly, efficient and serve with a smile. Eventually the restaurant will add courtyard dining, which is complete with a lovely fountain and also extends out to Meeting Street - the quieter business area of downtown. The hotel is located just shy of the "Four Corners of Law" at Meeting and Broad Streets. As always I opted for a healthy breakfast which consisted of old fashioned oats, complete with three sides including a nice Fall "pear compote." All the usual items including a smoked salmon plate, avocado toast, tres leche French toast, waffles, jumbo lump crab Benedict and the old reliable "Holy City Breakfast" are listed on the menu. Of course there is a fried chicken side to add to your waffle plate!! Open for lunch, dinner as well and brunch on weekends. Iron Rose Bar and Restaurant will be a nice addition to this historic property and we are glad to see and enjoy the newly almost- completed project today. According to the restaurant's write up and reviews the kitchen plans to offer a "take on Southern coastal cuisine inspired by the bounty of the Southeast's farms and water."

Yelp
It was our first time to the Iron Rose. The Espressotinis were delicious and they were able to make it with decaf. There were a lot of great things on the menu. We had a burger which was perfectly cooked medium rare and was juicy. We also had the pork loin which was juicy, perfectly cooked and had great flavor. The service was excellent as well. I've already been recommending the restaurants to friends. The ambience was slightly upscale but there were a lot of tourists there that were very casually dressed.

The dining experience here outshines any of its competitors!! Between how clean and well managed everything is to how delicious every meal they offer.. I'd strongly recommend this restaurant. The service was incredible by our waiter Nick and the general manager, Sascha checking in on us and ensure we felt comfortable and taken care of. The ambiance that they create is well above par. Don't walk, run. You and your taste buds will thank me!

Yelp
A well appointed, and thus high end, gathering and eating portion of the remodeled Mills House Hotel. Even to walk through is to have a staff member ready to serve you, including the elegant bar which was our concentration this day.

Yelp
Stopped here after walking all day. They had complimentary champagne in the lobby (which we declined). Sat in the bar area and shared the lil'gem salad and the old bay chips. The salad was excellent. We could have eaten another salad it was that good! The chips were solid and a nice pairing with our drinks. We got 2 signature cocktails: the Cheshire Life and the Sweet Brier. Both refreshing and tasty. Overall, would come here again. Wonderful atmosphere and waitstaff was attentive and friendly.

Yelp
We enjoyed a delicious mid afternoon snack off the bar menu. The Swordfish sandwich was perfectly grilled and seasoned on a delicious ciabatta. I paired it with an Old Blush, which was perfect for the hot and humid Charleston day. We sat in the bar area which had a very sophisticated vibe, and our food and drink was served by the attentive staff at the appropriate pace.

Yelp
We are staying at the Mills House so we woke up and ate breakfast downstairs. It's Saturday so it was brunch. The service was amazing and the ambiance is lux. Everything we had was great not one thing was average or below.

Yelp
Meh, certainly a beautiful place, but the food was not very good at all and we left..it may need some time to settle in.
