The Barrel Tavern

A great Valley Neighborhood bar. We went for Jimmy G’s No One Betta Karaoke. It’s like a big old dance party with a fun party atmosphere. Regulars are always there and there were great singers in the Mix. The Bar owners are two brothers and are as cool as can be. It’s a great place to be and get out of the valley heat. Very friendly place.

Memorial Day was really busy. There was lots of happy faces and ice cold drinks. In between those faces full of drinks are games and twinkling lights illuminating a cornhole and pool games.

I go here most Monday nights. If you want to hear great music and dance, this is the place. To see everyone so happy is a real treat and so rare. All ages. This is for Monday only. The rest of the week is a different crowd.

Lately there has been a new food vendor Friday and Sunday-Tuesday. This food is yummy and at a reasonable price. I enjoyed the chicken sliders and the pulled pork sandwiches. Good food with drinks makes the music sound even better :-)

Love the newly renovated Barrel Tavern. From the front door to the rest rooms. No longer a dive bar, a much needed coat of paint, new tables, fresh clean floors and newly remodeled bathroom with Nouveau art, gave this space a nice open modern look. Sundays and Thursday's Kareoke is a smash hit, with very talented performers. Service was excellent! A very friendly bartender says," Hello, Im Kelly what can I get you? Keeping up with the large crowd that trickled in after 10pm, she works with a smile; once in a while her stride being interrupted by a handzy troll hanging at the end of the bar slurring his words. I asked who is that, to one of patrons... they said he was the new bar manager. Totally unnecessary touching, the male with the waxed up mustache ( photo of him playing pool included below.) kept touching the female bartender and leering at her like a creep, ew. I've heard other people mention he was drunk playing pool and throwing up his middle finger everywhere. Just thought I'd throw that in there. There is plenty Of parking, and I had fun. I recommend this place for Karaoke and a good spot to hang with friends.

I loooove a dive bar. I have made travel plans around visiting different dive bars around the country - this one gives dive bars a bad name. Dive bar does not equal dirty environment, smelly bathrooms, and rude disgruntled staff. The Barrel is all of those things and much worse. I literally walked in, texted my friends to go somewhere else and not show up, and I walked out. It wasn't even worth meeting up there for a drink. The icing on the cake was the bartender with the short dark hair that had an attitude as stinky and sticky as the floor Lol.

Drinks are well priced and pretty loaded. Karaoke is fun and not too crowded. They also have a TouchTunes jukebox.

Came all the way from the UK to see the Minhlewood Mondaze, fantastic night and crowd.

Phenomenal bar. Mark, Chris, Sara and the sunday crew are the best. The vibes are immaculate and everyone is so friendly i adore it here. I will be back over and over again. I didn't know they had food but now i want to try it. Do they have food? I'm not sure but let's all meet up and get lit love yall peace.

Natalie is awesome! We came around 7:30pm on Sunday night and it wasn't busy at all. By the time we left it started picking up with a crowd. Super reasonably priced drinks. We had 3 Tito's sodas, 2 beer, and a Tito's Red Bull and the bill was less than $60. We want to come back for either karaoke on Tuesdays or live music on Mondays. We live reasonably close by in Northridge and hadn't been here before but we love finding new cool vibe dive bars so we will be back!

Came in here after picking my friend up from a late night with her friends. she wanted to do a little karaoke so we found this bar just off of Van Boulevard across from the Best Buy. At first glance, it looked like your typical dive bar. It was early in the day around 2 PM. Coke was not running yet Marc the bartender seemed a little bit grumpy, but provided fantastic service and cocktails. after hanging out there for a little bit I ended up meeting the owner and helped them with their security system, and we all made quick friends, to make a very long story short we stayed there until closing approximately 12 hours at that Bar ended up making a bunch of friends and then ended up bringing a bunch of people to our house for an after party. So at the end of the day or should I say the next day, this bar was a win five stars five out of five to thumbs up, and a big cheers as it not only provided the cocktails, the karaoke, but provided new friends in the making, which is priceless. I think why we all go to bars is not for the drinks, but for the friends. so thank you Bar Tavern for providing exactly what the customer really wants friendship and companionship. We will be back and we will be bringing more bodies for your excellent atmosphere. Sidenote, their karaoke was top-tier even though I was definitely not top-tier when I performed karaoke and also they had a restaurant that set up shop in the patio area to provide Fantastic quesadillas and tacos. Highly recommended. they are the cheapest quesadillas hitting at approximately $12 apiece or steak or I think you can opt for just the cheese for nine $$ but damn they were worth it. Thanks again.

Bad bad bad. Would not spend my hard earned money here! I have been a customer for years absolutely never again after a few days ago! Any other established! Creepy and rude man bartender! Took forever the service. Should have listened to other reviews!

Great music on Mondays . I didn't stay long enough but I will give them five stars for a dive bar. And with a pool table! Live music Greatful Dead band. Karaoke on Tuesday Large outdoor patio :)

Here on a Monday night with my friend, the femae bartender was lovely and provided quick service. Unfortunately we had to witness this guy Brent working who flipped out at her it was really awkward to witness. He needs a serious attitude adjustment he shouldn't be yelling at people behind the bar. People were waiting for him to serve them and he just kept yelling shit and waving arms around. Besides that it was chill I enjoy a good dive just wish dudes didn't have to throw tantrums lol Updating bc same dude just yelled at this older gentleman trying to order ... yikes

Best weekly Deadnight in the country! Bar staff is on top of it, security is chill but keeps the crazies and creeps out, and they generally have good food pop ups!! Can't beat it with a stick, I'll tell you what!

This place was pretty cool. Definitely a vibe. Good drinks served up by April who I found to be very funny and nice to look at. I will definitely be back.

Fun spot to grab a drink and Mory makes it that much better. Not only does she make the best drinks, she's also very personable and makes the bar come alive. Will definitely be coming in more often on Sundays.

Well, lets see...this bar has been remodeled from what I remember. It use to be really run down, but now its really nice inside. Its a small dive bar, but has a pool table, photo booth, and music jukebox. Its real chill here and very low key, its not overly crowded and the crowd that comes here is very chill. The prices are average and they have all regular beers or mixed drinks/ shots. I believe this place has darts too! The location is on Van Nuys near the Dominos, if you come here I'd recommend Uber, street parking is a pain.

Do not trust Mark. I have been coming here for years but I really hate people who add their own tip to your card when you tip them in Cash. Always take a copy of your bill. This Mark, first of all gave me someone elses bill and credit card, thte bar had only 2 other patrons, then after tipping him $20 in cash goes ahead and charges my credit card 2x the bill. Thanks buddy, and then you have the nerve not to return my phone calls

Very welcoming and warm atmosphere with Mory as our bartender. She obviously has many followers who also bring s great vibe with them. We had a great time and Mory is very friendly and attentive, The Barrel is a great place on Sunday nights and we've already recommended it to our friends, plus we've taken couple there.

Mory is a legend! Seriously the best bartender ever. She is sweet, fun, and makes the tastiest drinks. Highly recommend visiting her on Sundays!

I came in on Sunday night and the lovely Mory was working. I wasn't a fan of the other guy but Mory made the entire night feel special. It's a simple "how are you?" That does it for me. I will be coming back. I wish she was working on other nights too.

Wow, this place is where it's at. They have a pool table and so many fun events. We went to a hippy night where they had an outside station for local people selling products. We went a different time and they had karaoke. Overall, I think it's a cool place. What really blew me out of the water was the bartender Sara, (Sarah?) she was super fun and made kick ass drinks. I think I found my new hangout spot. She really made the bar scene something special.

This bar isn't closed FYI. I go here exclusively for the karaoke which my friend Jimmy does on Fridays--go see him! Anyway it's a dive bar so don't get your hopes up in it being a classy watering hole or anything. One of the bartenders is a total c u next Tuesday and won't acknowledge you if you have tits. Didn't even take my order when I gave it to her and instead looked at the guy standing next to me even though I had been there longer, THEN told me water was on both sides of the bar, but it wasn't. Find better bartenders, seriously. It's enough to ruin someone's night; I left right after that.

Great place....Yes, it's dive bar and I've been to plenty of them. I was impressed with (Brent) the bartender, fast and knowledge. my drink never went dry and he was the only one behind the bar on a Friday night. Travel to L A about once a month for business.

I don't write reviews. But I thought about it for a while, and I feel like I should put this out there for others to be aware. I've been to this bar and enjoyed it many times. I've recommended it to friends. I used to love it, but the last time ruined it for me. I went to close my tab, the bartender said my full name to me before I even spoke. He was panicked and seemed drunk and was hard to understand at first. The bartender said he gave my card to someone else who already left. He apologized, cancelled my bill and offered me $20 towards my next tab. I checked my bank account and I already had fraudulent charges. I was only at the bar for under 2 hours. I froze my card immediately. Just letting others know.

came in for karoake night and to have a few drinks. the bar staff was friendly only problem was the karoake disc jockey(kj) named jen sings. she is a little fat lady that is into double standards!!! she told me to not sing too loud when i was singing and even turned me down then told me to my face saying she did not turn me down while i was singing?!! number one rule if you want people to ever come back to your karoake dj nights you are running. 1.) never ever turn down a singer!!! When others are waaay way louder than they are!!! 2.) don't allow other signers to be super loud they literally were screaming like three others into the mic and you had absolutely no problem with them doing it.. but yet you wanted to silence me and turn me down for some odd reason???‍‍ talk about horrible ettiquete and being offensively rude to the patrons and singer which is me!!!! also this jen sings lady is extremely bossy and gives off a bossy mentality... i surely hope her karoake business nose dives and everyone find out what a hypocrote she is!!!

When I moved to Sherman Oaks 5 years ago I went around to check out the neighborhood bars. After hitting a few places I stumbled into The Barrel and to be honest I did not have the best experience. Thankfully I wasn't yelping at the time. Turns out a friend from work is a regular and after a few attempts to get me to go back I finally caved and gave The Barrel a 2nd chance. I'm glad I did. I know the bar had some covid struggles and after a short closure they came back with some fresh paint and a new attitude. I love the new look, no longer a dive but a total sports bar. Cool bartenders, friendly regulars and plenty of TVs showing games. Just a great spot for an after work beer.

Was looking for a dive bar on this splendid Saturday night. came from yelp and didn't expect much from this place. this place was fantastic and full of the diviest of dive regulars. I want nothing more than to be here every night for the rest of my life. Sara and Don are the best! I love this place with all my heart. Never leaving. ever. Like ever.

Bar looked cool with the pool table.But our experience for me and my boyfriends first time here was horrible. First off we sat down , and we were curious if they had any signature drinks and so my boyfriend asked the bartender if they had a drink menu and what the cheapest drinks were and one of the bartenders answered like he didn't like the questions or didn't want to answer. After that I wanted to leave but decided to give it another chance. We both ordered beers and drank them. After that, we wanted to close the tab and apparently the card machine wasn't working and said it would take a minute to repair. We were waiting almost an hour to get the debit card back. And the machine started working apparent and they didn't tell us so none of the employees or bartenders gave us back our card until we had to ask again. And they didn't even give us a discount on the bill for waiting for the inconvenience but the owner gave free drinks out to other people and was drinking with the customers. Customer service horrible. Never coming again.

Went here Friday to celebrate my 21st birthday. Brent the bartender was very knowledgeable and attentive to everyone. Was very pleased with the service and drinks.

Out here for a visit and friends took us to this dive bar called The Barrel and the Bartender behind the bar was fantastic. He was singing with the band and so entertaining behind the bar. I'm not much of a drinker and told him I didn't like the taste of liquor so he made me a drink that was fantastic. I hope if we visit again to see Brent (we asked him his name) behind the bar!!

Great bar! The regulars and staff are so welcoming. The cocktail list is amazing. Sara and Brent are great bartenders. Excellent live local music as well. A very good hidden gem in the valley. I'm glad I didn't skip by this one. See yah again soon!

Is there an opening date yet for the The Barrel 2.0? Friendly bartenders, lots of regulars, many characters, cheap and strong drinks. We all hope Danielle comes back to bartend and sing Madonna karoque songs for us.

Feel like this place should be a lot better. My beer tastes kind of weird and my husbands old fashioned was mediocre. Very loud music especially for a Tuesday night. Also there's a guy who's been passed out next to us for 20 minutes. Kind of a generic dive bar.

Barrel is back! Great local atmosphere. Good prices and selection. Bartender is super friendly and fun and the crowd is fun.

Cheap drinks. Pool, open mic, and excellent karaoke host by Jen Sing. Food out back varies by vendor. Dive bar with all the dive atmosphere you crave. It's nice to relax and this is a friendly neighborhood bar.

Had the best time with my girl and bro. This place is much better than the previously remodeled space. Service was great and had no problems enjoying a game of pool. Second time here and bartenders were ace! Bathrooms were clean and smoking was allowed outfront. Just keep the drinks inside and be respectful. Happy Halloween! Will be back.

Oh The barrel, a cozy dive bar with a friendly atmosphere on the weekends. Usually on Fridays, & Saturday's they have karaoke going on, the crowds are always friendly & laid back. They have pretty good prices for their cocktails, the beer on the other hand seems like they raised the prices on pitchers & bottles the last time I was there it cost $23.00 for a pitcher of shock top & 1 bottle of new castle. I also need to remember to stop ordering beer from the tap here the pitchers are usually flat & a little warm. But besides the bad beer taps this spot is a decent hang out spot.

A little birdie told me that this place will arise from the ashes again. It's being renovated/updated/revamped and should be open again very soon!!

Cool dive bar. Around the corner from my bar. Old school feels. Pretty friendly staff, and a solid jukebox. Pretty dated in a semi offputting kind of way. But I'm a fan of strange history. They kept me fed on whiskey so I'm happy and keep rolling back up in there Unfortunately this bar is now closed ‍

Very impressed with this repurposed bar! Once a dive bar that was a bit seedy, is now redecorated with the best of the old and and an invigorating new! This place is worth the visit, it will become home immediately! The bar tenders are all great and the vibe warm.

I've been there twice since Covid and each time was a fun experience! One of the nights a great band, "Stage 11", played some awesome acoustic alt/rock tunes and another night was Karaoke night. Not sappy like Dimples. RIP Dimples. Excellent service. Clean ladies room. Hallelujah! Super fun and friendly people all around! Highly recommend checking it out!

A good dive!! Always good personalities womaning the taps. Some of the best bartenders in the valley hands down. If you're a dive bar junkie you will be recognized in here by the bartenders unless you're still a noob I've only been coming in for a few weeks but I can assure you this is as good as dives get

I came here before it closed down once or twice. I was delighted when i saw it had reopened. It's better than I could have ever imagined. The staff is warm and inviting - and it's like your local "cheers". Love popping in for a drink!

Definitely a cheap place. Only $6.25 for my Makers on the rocks. We came here two days in a row (Thursday and Friday) and left after 30 minutes each time. Thursday it was completely dead. Friday they had karaoke and it looked like people were falling asleep. If you want a place where you and your drink can get to know one another a little bit better, then you might like this place. If you want to actually talk to other human beings.... I'd look elsewhere.

This is a random hole in the wall bar but I'm a BIG fan. This place does have some interesting characters but I guess that's what makes this place cool and different. Highlights: - cheap drinks - free popcorn - karaoke - old school shuffleboard table (LOVE IT) - pool table DO IT

This place is the diviest dive bar of all dive bars. It is the epitome of what it means to be a dive bar. Depending on who you are, that is either a good thing or a bad thing. For me it was overall good.
