Where To Eat Outside In Woodside & Sunnyside - New York - The Infatuation

"Does every great beer bar need to have a nice back patio, metal chairs, and a friendly bartender with an Irish accent? No, but it helps. And that’s what you’ll find at The Beerkeeper in Woodside. We can’t actually guarantee your bartender will be Irish (the employee schedule is not publicly available), but we can promise good beers on draft and to-go cocktails." - Nikko Duren

Google
Sharp new bar in Woodside. It looks like a hole in the wall from the outside, but it's beautiful and recently refurnished on the inside. Paneled wood and clean floors give it a professional business look, but the wide beer selection and row of seating makes it feel like a place you'd actually like to drink at. They have over a dozen beers on tap and a full bar. There's 4 or 5 TVs hanging from the ceiling with sports playing. Bathrooms were clean. No food available, no patio in the back, no dart board. None of the things that would really set it apart or above the other bars around. I wouldn't mind seeing more beer specials or pint-sized glasses (I got a high-abv beer while I was there, 8%, and it came in a small glass goblet, but the pilsner-glasses the other patrons had looked standard 12 oz size). The bartender was friendly and attentive. If I could make a comment to the owner it would be to find something to mark the place out as unique: as it stands now other local bars have slightly more to offer, I'm sorry to say. I really want this place to succeed, it has so much potential

Google
Bar man is very rude and not friendly at all and not a correct fit for this pub. However the pub is fantastic..Owner should look into this .Lot of place to grow. .Thanks .

Yelp
Let me start with Yvonne our bartender , so attentive and friendly she made the experience even better . The place is very cute with a cozy corner , should be adorable in the cold days watching the rain or snow out the window . The vibe in the place is amazing , definitely recommend

Yelp
Nice place . Great drinks . Friendly bartender . Great location . 3 mins walking from woodside subway .

Yelp
From warm beer with a soapy flavor to red wine from an old screw cap bottle that anyone else would be ashamed to serve, this place was a disgrace. I knew I was in the wrong bar from the moment I sat down, with a distinctly unfriendly bartender telling me that only the lagers were on discount and then unsmilingly serving my wife an undrinkable Pinot Noir that he had to know was sitting around for days. Awful experience.

Yelp
I been coming to Woodside for food ever since I can remember maybe even the occasional ice cream but never really the bar type .. but was in the neighborhood picking up food for my moms birthday on nice warm I wanted a cold cocktail or beer . Right next to the restaurant I was ordering from was beer keeper . There was a little group of friends drinking their beer and a few people passing by with frozen or mixed cocktails so I knew this place had to be good . I ordered the pina colada for me and my boyfriend and we both agreed it was the best drink we had in a long time , refreshing and flavorful as well as decent prices during this pandemic . The bartender / cashier were really nice ,friendly and the place was flexible , still taking cash and change . From looking in the window while ordering I can see the bar is very clean and fully stocked I will definitely come here again when I'm Woodside ... hopefully soon

Yelp
What a great addition to the neighborhood. I always pass by it but this was my first time here. It's very nice ambiance service is great. Beer selection is good. We had good time. I'll definitely comeback. Cheerio!

Yelp
Only knocking one star because Yelp misleadingly mentions that food is served - probably from several years ago. I met a friend here before heading to the Mets game & unfortunately there was no food served. (Maybe the kitchen was just closed? It seemed like there wasn't one though) But, we still hung out for two rounds with the incredibly nice bartender, who mentioned that we could grab a pizza next door & bring it into the bar if we wanted. Unfortunately I did not catch her name, but we were bonding over Ireland & getting our eyebrows done. It's always nice to break the ice with friendly banter! We had reasonably priced Stella pints & separate from the bar, it's a really cute space. We didn't stay long, but I'd be interested in checking out the beer garden outside, if it's open. Thanks Beerkeeper!

Yelp
Great barman. Nice, warm, cozy relaxed atmosphere. Decent selection of draft beer. Good, Irish, Irish-American style pub.

Yelp
This is a local bar for us (across the street). We've been here twice, the first time I had a signature cocktail that was on a cocktail menu. It was great, and they let you bring your own food in. Our second visit, the bartender said there was no cocktail menu and didn't know the drink I was referring to. I asked him to make me a specific martini instead, he did and it was good. I think the bartenders could be more friendly, but otherwise the ambiance and variety of drinks are good.

Yelp
Well if you're on a date or trying to woo someone this is the bar... I'm just talking about the neighborhood.. The drinks are nice and strong. My personal favorite is the old fashioned over here made in the old fashioned way.. The bartenders jerry and Freddy are awesome with quite a talent for cocktails. Never tried the food here but you can bring food from outside as well. The bathrooms are also always neat and clean.. oh and they have a open backyard as we'll although smoking is not allowed

Yelp
A proper Irish pub with a proper Irish bartender, a nice selection of beers, a great little atmosphere right in the middle of an area under the #7 train that has a little bit of everything. This area of Queens has probably the highest concentration of true Irish pubs so if that's your thing, this is the area of town to hit. I arrived here purely by chance seeking out a pint of Guinness--properly poured I hoped--and it was. Nice chat with the bartender and friend in town from the Emerald Isle before departing. A very nice visit, a nice stay. I'd return here again in a heartbeat. Thanks, lads.

Yelp
Is this really the beer keeper? I came here specifically because I thought it was named the Bee Keeper. Considered it was a cool name, but that's my fault for not noticing the r, which is disappointing cause they selection of beer was not as generous as their actual name would suggest. Stopped in early one weekend day. I found the inside to be interesting as it's different from your typical Irish pub. The bar and interior lighting is pretty trendy and there's a robust seating area in the back. It looks homey and comfortable to frequent for both a drink at the bar and a meal with friends. Staff was friendly to me, but I found the choices of beer to be somewhat disappointing. On draft is a few well known staples, but where's the good good stuff? Sure it's all subjective, but I wanted to try something new I had never had before. I ended up ordering a Beerkeeper Ale (or was it a lager?). It was a good beer, but not $7 good. I've never known the in-house beer to cost the same as well known craft, but hey, we're supporting local business. Not to much later, a band comes in and starts to play some irish music. Bar bands are hit or miss. This one was a hit. They were excellent, adding to the experience as opposed to be overly loud or obnoxious. I like the Beerkeeper, it's clean, it's comfortable, they've got good music, but I want a larger selection of beer. I'll likely stop by again in a few weeks to see if they've changed their taps.

Yelp
Great dive bar. Amazing bartender who made us the most delicious Boozy Hot Chocolate! Very good homemade warm mulled cider as well. A must try if you're in the neighbor.

Yelp
I was having an argument with my lady friend on a rainy Friday. I suggested we grab a drink and talk it through. When chose this spot. Well we didn't talk it through, because when we arrived they were playing classic 90's pop songs and offering up great cocktails. We forgot all about the argument and just enjoyed our time. We liked it so much we never left and decided to move into one of the restrooms. (one star deducted for this crazy female bartender who was fucking with everyone on Saint Patrick's Day)

Yelp
A group of 6 of us visited this establishment during our St. Patty's bar crawl. This was the second bar we had been to that day so far so we were not intoxicated at all so we figured, hey, why not the beerkeeper?? Seems like a legit name for beers..... Well, the only enjoyable part of this entire 20 minute experience was walking in the door and that is about it. We had the unfortunate pleasure of having this lady bartender. From what I am seeing on here, other people had the pleasure as well. She was the worst person I have ever come across. As my girlfriend and I sat down, she did not look like she was in a good mood at all. She looked rushed and barely said one word to us. I tried to smile and be polite but she couldn't have care less. She looked like she was being forced to be there and was taking it out on a lot of people. (It's St. Patty's day and the bar wasn't even that full) We thought, maybe she is having a bad day.. It happens. The last straw was when she decided to start yelling at a group of 3 people because they asked to split the check with 3 cards. She did not tell them or us that there was a minimum on the card and then she proceeded to yell at this one guy asking him "who splits the bill 3 ways?"... Letterary, a lot of people do. It's not unheard of. We all left and decided not to spend our money there. The guy tried really hard to be nice and understanding but she had decided that she was over it. If you ever go in and this lady is working behind the bar, please just walk out and save your money. If you stay, you will just walk out angry because you had to cross paths with this person. Ps. As far as the rest goes, the guy bartender was super nice, friendly and engaging. The place looks nice and the beer selections seemed good. I wish I would have had a chance to taste them.

Yelp
Interesting and relatively new bar located in Woodside. I've never been to Woodside before heading here, so it was all new for me. At the outset, the bar blends in with some of the older establishments around it. Once you enter, you'll realize the bar is quite spacious and has a decent amount of tables. They also started bringing a live band recently, which is good. Drinks were standard and not too expensive. Only minuses at the moment are the fact that there's no food and that the place seems to lack a "personality"/identity in this area of Woodside. That will just have to be developed over the course of time.

Phil T.

Yelp
Just hosted a surprise birthday here and it was a fantastic experience. Charlene did a great job coordinating with me to book the back deck which was an amazing space with local sports team decor, a good amount of seating and tables for my party and a flat scream TV to watch the game. They were very accommodating of us letting us bring our own food in and helping us keep our ice cream cake frozen. They even let us our own karaoke machine with the TV. It was a great time. Big shout out to Richie who took good care of us during the entire event. He made us all feel very at home. Will definitely host more events here in the future and go back to grab a drink and watch our favorite teams play.

Yelp
People are always very friendly, especially the bartender. Good beer selection and cozy atmosphere - good for groups, too. Only disadvantage: no snacks, not even finger food.

Yelp
Absolutely go to place in Woodside for watching soccer! Its peaceful and fine selection on drinks and friendly atmosphere!! I love it
google avatar

Yelp
This place is cute! It's your typical, standard pub. A little divey in my opinion. They have a large range of IPAs/drafts to pick from. The bartender was very attentive as well. I came here on a Saturday, early evening. It had a few people. I'm pretty sure it gets pretty popping later in the night. Overall a very chill spot to hang out with your pals. I liked the ambiance! Most bars in woodside are filled with good people and good vibes. I'll be back!

Yelp
Super nice bartender I was new to beer and she let me have a taste of each beer til I found the one I liked but sadly didn't But love their vodka and sprite. Also there an outdoor seating area which is beautiful also there two bathrooms and both a super clean. Also the style of the bar is simple and vintage
google avatar

Kat C.

Yelp
Really cute bar with good beers and prices. Wish they had a bigger food menu as they have adorable seating areas and the space to do it. Great neighborhood spot!
google avatar

Sandra Lorena V.

Yelp
This place has amazing decor. Very private ambiance, but sleek and classy. There are options seating wise (by the bar, on high stool chairs and a table in the middle or lower tables in the back.) Our bartender was very nice. We just had the Beerkeeper beer, which was refreshing and did feel strong. We thought this place would have plenty of food options and it should be noted that it does not. You can order things to nibble on- like the cheese platter, a sandwich, baked potato or soup, but nothing that will feed your 'brunch' 'dinner' cravings. Not mine at least. I like this spot because it has so much potential.
google avatar

Jerry M S.

Yelp
No good... sign outside for drink specials: Party if 4 says: "hi, great drink specials." -Blond Bartender: no drink specials - She possessed No personality... -Patrons: Ok, do you have a drink menu? -Bartender: places menus on bar ... not interested. Says, oh beer taps have changed so you'll have to get up and look at the taps... proceeds to walk away. -Our party walked away too! Sorry to see... place has a lot of potential! Very pricey though for Woodside, Queens.

Yelp
The best bar in woodside ! The bartender jerry is super cool guy , I think he is a bit shy but great guy and bartender . I have been here too many times and it's getting change , I think out side of place is almost open . The beers all good and nice . I am IPA guy so I can enjoy phenomenal IPA . The bar is trendy and cool looking . I can come here every day . Thank you Beerkeeper! Love it !!
google avatar

Tara F.

Yelp
Hey Beerkeeper, Almost there! Your bar is very good looking, your beer taps are fresh, bartenders very nice. However..... something is missing. Maybe it's a food option, maybe it's music? I don't know.... I day drank there and I just felt something was missing. The bar before you was awful and disgusting. However it had that something that made you feel welcomed. I think you are good for Woodside...but you need something else.... and when I figure it out I'll tell you!!!
google avatar

P O.

Yelp
Been coming here alot recently . Such a beautiful bar .. the best guinness in queens .. great live music every weekend . But the best part is gerry .. one if not the best bartender I had serve me before

Tony A.

Yelp
I love this place They are very friendly service is excellent and it is super clean The barmaid is adorable sweet and kind if you were interested in a local place in Woodside this is the place to be
google avatar

Ciarán M.

Yelp
Great new bar. It's exactly what Woodside needed. Beautiful bar, nice staff, diverse crowd, and a decent selection of beers. It looks like they are bringing in some different live music/bands than you would usually get around the neighborhood. What more would you want?
google avatar

Heidie L.

Yelp
Perfect neighrbood bar. Cozy and ticks all the boxes you expect from your local watering hole. I live in the neighborhood over but it's worth making the trip for good banter with Gerry. I was in on a saturday and had the prickly pear margarita, yum! Will def be back with friends.
google avatar

Anika S.

Yelp
Went on a Sunday night. The bar area wasn't busy but it took me longer than usual to get a bartenders attention. All 3 were just too busy talking to each other. Interior designing is nice but the bar looks very out of place in Woodside. Better to go to the other staple pubs around the area.
google avatar

Andy L.

Yelp
What a wonderful neighborhood bar! Crystal is a delight behind the bar and the atmosphere is cozy! Lots of TV's to keep up with all my favorite sports action. They have a great selection of draft and bottled beer too. Great place to enjoy a few pints with friends.

Duffknuckle M.

Yelp
Beautiful reno of an ancient pub with nice garden in back. Pre covid they had a great folk/bluegrass/country/irish acoustic scene. I miss that. Hopefully it can come back to the neighborhood. Missing the live music. Its been rough support your locals!
google avatar

Jim N.

Yelp
Great looking place with a top notch variety of craft beers and quick friendly service. Loses one point for no food options. We would have been there another hour if we could have gotten a sandwich or burger. Nonetheless, a great meeting (and drinking) spot.
google avatar

Karena M.

Yelp
Really cool and different bar!!! Nice cocktails and great selection of beers ....love visiting when I'm in the area ... can't wait to try out the beer garden in the summer ...
google avatar

Alan R.

Yelp
Gone there on many occasions my last visit was Saturday night and what can I say five stars the whole way.music was so good and the bartender gerry had my drink up on the bar before I had to ask this speaks for this bartender alone someone who takes great care and passion in his job and of his customers. The owners I don't know but what can I say to you you have a wonderful bar great place super staff great drinks good luck and highly recommended .
google avatar

Steve P.

Yelp
Gotta tell you this is a really cool place. It's a pure neighborhood bar. I just moved to the neighborhood and enjoy it immensely. Just a good, laid back, decent group of folks and bartender...and some pretty good beer to boot. Definitely has that neighborhood feel. The cool part is that you can be anonymous if you want.
google avatar

Seamus L.

Yelp
Beerkeeper is a nice clean place to visit on a work night. The lights are dim, the music is a reasonable volume, and you can enjoy a craft beer and a conversation without having to scream in the other person's face. Some may call the atmosphere melancholic, but I can assure that's just part and parcel of being Irish.
google avatar

Chaz M.

Yelp
Great Bar, the staff are very friendly and welcoming. Good selection of drinks, nice happy hour, live music and they have a beer garden. Would def recommend this bar.

K. K.

Yelp
I love this place, it's like a hidden gem. Very large, modern and overall nice spot. The staff is super friendly. Yes, they don't serve food at this time, but we were told we can bring outside food. Let's be honest, in some ways I really do prefer a slice of pizza with my beers anyway. I recommend that you go and see for yourself, it's far better than other bars in Woodside filled with old, sloppy drunks. Also, live music on Saturdays!

David L.

Yelp
Never coming back to this place. Really rude male bartender. Their clientele seems to be the older senior crowd and I guess I didn't fit that image. I don't know but, there's like 4 Irish bars right across the street. No reason to come here.

Sean R.

Yelp
The draft beer was un-drinkable $7.50 a pint on a Tuesday during normal happy hour hours Wouldn't go back if they were giving away beers
google avatar

Mosabbir F.

Yelp
We come to this bar whenever we are in NY. We loved it so far until tonight when the lady bartender ordered us every now and then to be quiet. If We have to be quiet while having a conversation in a bar amongst 4 friends, then why would we spend our money in a bar in the first place?!
google avatar

Emily G.

Yelp
Beerkeeper has become a favorite for me and my friends. Drinks are great, reasonably priced, fun crowd and atmosphere, ambience is cool, and live music is always great! Gerry is the greatest bartender ever! My friends and I always stop in to say hi to Gerry whenever in the area. He always makes time to have a chat or have some laughs and he knows exactly how to pour the perfect drink!

Matthew K.

Yelp
This used to be Shelley's, a real no-frills dive that recently closed after about 70 years, dating to when the neighborhood was largely Irish. Another longtime area pub, The Starting Gate, across the street, is also getting a makeover now. I met up here the other day with a friend visiting from out of town, and it was a pretty positive experience. Nice beer selection; the house brew is good and had a Fat Tire too. $7 pints for this area is not cheap, though. There was live music in the front, but you could still have a conversation. Lots of seating, high tables and stools in the front and chairs in the back. While they did a nice job with the renovation (kinda looks like a chateau inside), the bar does have its downsides: no kitchen/food, no back patio, and no pool table or darts. It's strictly a sit and drink place, and maybe talk and listen to music. Unfortunately, what Beerkeeper lacks means it doesn't really stand out from other bars in Woodside and Sunnyside, most of which serve food, some of which have live music, and more than few of which have a back patio. I will probably be back for a drink or two at some point.
google avatar

Haydar K.

Yelp
What a racist bartender. Cut off after 4 beers. Tipped him for each beer then asked about the buyback policy which apparently is just for white patrons as he took offense to the question then accused me of cursing. I'm not even black. Guess I'm only welcome at a Columbian bar. This used to be a halfway decent bar with pool table and outside drinking area. Avoid this page like the plague.

Peter P.

Yelp
This place has a hilariously minimal beer selection that a corner deli would be embarrassed to have, and then the bartender gave us one sample of beer for two people and then complained when we asked for another... Then he proceeded to hand us a check for $28.50 for 2 beers without an itemized price for each beer. We asked why it was that much and he "misstook" the 28 for an 18... sure. This is the second bad experience I've had at this place out of 2 visits total. Will not be back.
