Google
Recently I spent a week in Birchwood WI. We discovered a gem of a restaurant in the area, it’s called The Birchwood Cafe. Everything about this place is outstanding, Food is fantastic, service was great and the decor is classic. Their specialty is definitely loaded hash browns, you can get them in like a dozen different ways or just customize to whatever your heart desires. I had biscuits and gravy, corned beef hash (amazing) tried the omelette and had fantastic hash browns over the week. I was so glad we found this place. 😃😃

Google
Great place to eat. Bobber appetizers (cream cheese with corn & spices fried) was yummy. I had a BLT with egg on top - delicious! Interior decor reminded me of a fishing lodge. Definitely worth the stop

Google
Edible food if you don’t want to make breakfast. The hash browns are no where near “loaded” with cheese and it is processed cheese that is on it… They was also barely any crisp to it too. It was very basic and you can get Great Value (Walmart) juice too… Service was nice and quick.

Arrived here early on a Friday morning quickly greated by a polite and attentive server. She got our coffee and our orders right in and the food was out in a quick fashion. I got their loaded hashbrows with an egg on top and it was awesome. We will definitely return in the future.

Google
We had here stake with hash browns and cheese on top of it and eggs everything was delicious. Very nice place to sit down and have good meals with nice old stuff decorations with old timers pictures.

Google
I asked a local where to eat breakfast/lunch in Birchwood. They said without a doubt, Birchwood Cafe. They said “don’t go anywhere else!” They were pretty spot on with their recommendation. Birchwood is a small town, but this little eatery makes you forget that. They have your usual breakfast/lunch staples, like eggs, pancakes, sandwiches and more. They have a nice seating section inside, with a diner counter. Plus they offer outside patio seating on those lovely WI weather days.

Google
This little café had a really cozy and homey feel. Their breakfast was delicious! I had a hashbrown meal with cheese bacon and an egg on it, as well as a small pancake. A friend said the sausage and crepes were also great. Our waiter was really friendly and helpful. Our whole group enjoyed this place.

Google
The best breakfast. I had hashbrowns, scrambled eggs, bacon and toast. Everything was done the way I asked them. Friendly servers. Very busy place.

Yelp
This is one of the places I miss when I'm not in Birchwood. I've been there enough times to have tried just about everything on their menu. If you want a solid b-fast in the north woods, look no further! FYI - breakfast sandwich is the hidden gem on their menu. Get it with crispy bacon and be prepared to be amazed.

Yelp
One of our regular haunts when we're in Birchwood, WI, pop. 402 so it's about time I reviewed it. My favorite thing on the menu here is 2 fried eggs, half order of hashbrowns, and bacon. I forget what they call it because our regular waitress knows what I want so I really never have to order it. That is also a statement about their service. Don't miss the hash browns. If you're a hot cocoa lover, don't miss that either. It's not my thing but the rest of my family has had it and it's really outstanding! Would I recommend? Yep, been here too many times to say no Would I return? Same Service Dog score: A - they seat us in a great table for her, and otherwise generally ignore her. Another patron said something snarky to manager about allowing pets so I was questioned once. The staff member who questioned me was respectful and seemed to have some knowledge of ADA laws too; those are the kind of interactions I appreciate:)

Yelp
Fantastic breakfast. Huge menu so everyone gets what they want. Love the hash browns, which they claim are "almost world famous" -- but I know for certain they actually are famously talked about by my friends in England. Can't go wrong with the omelettes, the biscuits & gravy, the skillets, or if you have a sweet tooth, the French toast or pancakes. Service is great/friendly. It was always nice to have Sarah as our server. Birchwood Cafe is always a treat.

Yelp
A must have when in Birchwood for breakfast! On a busy weekend you may run into a little wait but it's worth it! And don't forget the Mimosa!

Yelp
The hubs and I stopped in to grab a bite. Excellent burgers and quick friendly service. It's a basic cafe style place but definitely worth the stop.

Yelp
Great cafe style breakfast and lunch. Definitely a local staple! Price point and portion size are awesome!! It can get busy but definitely worth a wait!

Yelp
Nice small town dinner atmosphere. Good old timey photos on the walls and such. I got the bobbers for an appetizer. They were delicious and unique. I had the cowboy breakfast sandwich, it was good. Good service. Okay price.

Yelp
Quaint and charming restaurant. The patty melt is superb and the banana cream pie is to die for! Apron Betsey and Stacie are friendly and welcoming. Great spot for lunch; comfort food. Look forward to breakfast sometime!

Yelp
Excellent food...and even better service! Nice and friendly 'up north' people. It's a wonderful town with a cool grocery store and an old-fashioned hardware store. The pancakes are huge! Lots of good food for your money.

Yelp
Great Breakfast place in Birchwood! Texas Mike and Apron Betsey are wonderful!! The Spanish omelet is one of our favorites as well as the kids pancakes.

Yelp
I loved the bluegill almost famous hash browns. They were great, quaint little cafe. Also pretty cheap. I love coming here whenever I come up to Birchwood.

Yelp
Great food. Great staff. Portions were amazing. Cool came out and spoke to everyone. Young lady that was serving was fun, energetic and extremely knowledgeable on menu! This is a must if you're in the area. Or even in the state of Wisconsin.

Mark P.

Yelp
The food is good and the portions are generous. Here's my only complaint. Got a Denver Omelet and it had American Cheese. American cheese is for kids & people who can't taste anything. Need to replace it with cheddar at the least. Something that actually tastes like cheese. This is located in Wisconsin after all.

Yelp
Pass this place on by. Under the current ownership this once great little stop has gone seriously downhill. Upon arriving no one greeted us. There was no sign telling us to wait to be seated or seat yourself. After standing there awkwardly for a min or two we opted to seat ourselves. Was quickly told by staff that we could not sit at the place we chose. We were then offered a table that sat 4 when we were clearly a party of 5. Once seated children were told that they could not touch anything on the table for it was "violation of the health code". What?? Waitress and owner both incredibly rude. We left without ordering. Lots of great places to eat in the surrounding area. This once great place is now definitely one to just avoid.

Yelp
Service was great breakfast was better! Thank you.

Yelp
Food was pretty darn good, unfortunately, our order for two people at breakfast took forever. We arrived, were greeted immediately and had our drink orders taken. A short while later our order was placed with the waitress. During the next 50 minutes we were advised twice that our food would be right out. We were convinced our order was either forgotten or had to be redone. We weren't in a hurry and the food was really delicious, but the wait was concerning.

Yelp
This place is awesome for breakfast. (Have yet to try it for dinner! Bacon and cheese omelette was great. Super service!

Yelp
Great food and service! The place for bfast in Birchwood! Servers and owners pay attention to detail.

Jennifer D.

Yelp
This place is consistently unwelcoming and just plain rude to large parties and children. Waitresses lack basic customer service skills and social grace. An embarrassment to Birchwood. Go to the Rustic Cafe down the street, as it demonstrates much better customer service.

L S.

Yelp
Since I was a kid, my family has come up to visit the Birchwood area annually for years and we always enjoyed coming to this cafe. It was nostalgic and used to be enjoyable and we wanted to start bringing our children here. After our experience today, we will NEVER be coming back. The wait staff was short, rude and lacked any quality of customer service. One waitress in particular was incredibly unprofessional and scolded my 3 year old child shouting "Hey!" at him multiple times for picking up the salt/pepper shaker after my husband politely asked her not to the first time she yelled. She then proceeded to make comments on how some "parenting was needed". We literally sat down 5 minutes before this happened, hadn't even ordered yet and weren't being disruptive. I have never experienced anything like this at any other restaurant I've been to. We've noticed this cafe lacks the ability to welcome/adapt to different types of people or visitors that pass through the area who come in, and that they are only used to their regular older customers. If you have a children's menu that implies you are a "kid friendly" environment. The behavior by your waitress today did not display that one bit. My child wasn't doing anything wrong and even if he was, it isn't the responsibility of the wait staff to "take care of it". If you have young kids or grandkids and are visiting the area, I suggest you don't go to Birchwood Cafe. They won't welcome you with open arms- that's for sure.

Gina M.

Yelp
The second we walked in the service was awful. My family was treated poorly, as if we were inconveniencing the staff. I would not recommend this establishment to families. I would recommend going to the cafe down the street, Rustic Corner Cafe. The service there was exceptional. Treated us like family and the food was amazing too.

Yelp
Incredibly nice folks with a well run shop. Came for a quick lunch and brought a group of 15 back they next morning for breakfast. Lots of options and everyone was able to find something to enjoy. Located on the main drag in Birchwood...it's right across the street from Big Sexie's Bar and shares a door with a laundry at. If I was in town longer, this would be the place to wash my clothes and sip some brew.

Yelp
Delicious! We were in the area for a long weekend and tried this place. It turned out to be a great find. The food was great and staff was super friendly! It may have taken a little extra time but totally worth it. Coffee was really good!
google avatar

Yelp
Super nice staff. Waitress came back to verify my order when she wasn't sure (apparently no one orders just egg whites) and was very accommodating. On one trip we needed the order to go because our puppies were in the car and not only were they super fast, everything we needed (including a full set of plastic ware , napkins, and jam) were right there for us without having to ask.

Bob L.

Yelp
Worst service yet!! Lots of restaurants in the area...chose this one partly based on Yelp rating. WRONG decision. About 10 minutes to even get menu and place not crowded... waitress had no idea what the "specials" were. Ordered simple fare from menu. Food arrived 20 minutes later. Won't be back!!! Geez...!

Yelp
Our go-to after fishing place. Breakfast menu has many favorites. Great staff and consistently good food. Free wifi and super coffee. You won't go wrong here.

Yelp
Ridiculous & Unprofessional: Our family came on a late Friday morning (7/20/18) when there was plenty of space for 8 adults and 8 kids. We decided to sit outside because the weather was nice and we didn't want to disturb anyone inside with our large group. We are conscientious people that appreciate warm and welcoming service. It seemed like an issue from the moment we arrived. After waiting 10 minutes to get drink orders (basically coffee, juice, and water) some lady came out in a very confrontational way and started to ask us if we were together or on separate checks. I assume she was a manager because she was not the original person to greet us and start table service. She instructed us to tell the server if lwe were on separate checks. This person then decided to tell me that my 3 year old son would ruin her precious salt shaker if he didn't stop shaking it into a glass of water. Look, I obviously don't want him doing that at a restaurant, but I couldn't exactly pay attention to his every move if the manager comes blasting out to dictate the rules of engagement at the Birchwood Cafe. I told her I would take care of the salt shaker as I took it from my son. He then started shaking the pepper into the glass of water. This lady then yelled "HEY!" directly at my son in an attempt to get him to stop. I'm a very patient and empathetic person when it comes to most situations, however, this was one thing I could not let slide. I told her that she could never speak to one of my kids that way, and if she continued we would leave. She then began to argue with me about what she said and then murmured something about how parenting was needed. I then quietly gathered my family and we decided to spend our money elsewhere. If you work in the restaurant/service industry, then you expect the occasional large group with children. You also expect to have to empty and clean the salt shakers once in a while. They gave up at least $120 plus a good tip for the server, over salt and pepper shakers that cost almost nothing to empty, clean, and refill. Our family has been eating there for years every summer. It's safe to say we will never spend another dime at the Birchwood Cafe, unless there's a change in ownership. UNFORGIVABLE.

Yelp
I have been going to the Birchwood Cafe long before the new owners took over. It is still the same thing. Service is slow, always has been and it seems like it always will be. Food is mediocre at best. Save your time and money. Eat in and wait until the good places open up.

Scott S.

Yelp
Looking for small town top notch breakfast and lunch place you can't go wrong here. Always good food and plenty of it. Get the fisherman special or garbage plate for breakfast.

Scott B.

Yelp
Do not waste your time or money here.Nothing like it used to be! Ordered an omlet-it came it was 1/2 thick and instead of Wis cheddar as it said on menu I got Velveeta processed crap. This place is terrible

J S.

Yelp
Great place for a hearty breakfast. Hash browns, plain or dressed, are a must. Weekends go for the bananas foster french toast. You won't be sorry. Good lunch items too, including a monster burger, 'Texas' toothpicks, and daily specials. Friendly service. A favorite of the locals.

Jane J.

Yelp
Great! Super clean. Nice people and good food. The hashbrowns are too die for! Good quiche and lunch specials.

Paul A.

Yelp
The very best breakfast/lunch place in the entire United States! The small, unassuming, yet warm and welcoming establishment is absolutely "in your face friendly"-and spotlessly clean. It won't matter what you order,or your breakfast preference, they do it all,and do it all awesome! In addition to the fantastic waffle/pancake/egg/omelet dishes that they set the standard for, this place has,bar-none, the finest biscuits and sausage gravy breakfast anywhere. And I mean ANYWHERE!-So do yourself a favor next time you are within 100 miles of Birchwood WI. and get over to the "Birchwood Café",it will be worth every minute of your time, you will thank me and this revue, and go back.,
