Where to Drink Guinness in Denver This Holiday Season | Eater

"The Black Buzzard opened in 2017 in the former location of Brendan’s Pub, a longtime blues venue once frequented by partner Jason Rogers. He named it after a bourbon, bacon, and stout beer cocktail created by Kellner Schoenke, who also loved Brendan’s. There’s live music on stage at least three nights a week, and though there’s no food allowed in the subterranean site, you can enjoy a Guinness — it’s one of 50 rotating local and international beers it has on tap." - Rebecca Treon

Google
Venue was really nice and intimate. Sound was great! I am just really disappointed in the cost of drinks and honestly I felt scammed by the bar tenders. Do they tip themselves??? I bought 2 drinks and the charge on my card came up $24 and some change. Next morning the charge changed to $35!!! Makes me feel scammed. They had no tipping options at the bar, just swipe our cards and give them back. Next drinks cost $40! So 4 drinks came to $75! For a smaller venue you would think the drinks would be more affordable but nope, they were Ball Arena Prices. Sad because this was a really nice venue to enjoy.

Google
Great atmosphere for the venue, wish you could hear more of the lyrics than all music, but still had a blast, shout out to "Public Figure" they played amazing show was great, and some of my fav songs were played. Public Figure was the 2nd opening act for "Capture This", sounded like she had pretty voice but was really hard to hear ... maybe too much speaker for venue size? Great selection of beer on tap, lots of "Dale's"

Adam Stalboerger

Google
Sound quality is great, bar is convenient as well. Only 4 stars instead of 5 because of stage visibility. If there are a few tall people up front, it makes it impossible to see at times but overall good venue.

Rochelle Braswell

Google
The venue itself was wonderful. But the bartenders overcharged my card. I got the same drink each time but was charged different prices each time. And there is an extra 15$ in charges that im assuming they just tipped themselves, when there wasnt even an option for me to tip. I suggest you pay for your drinks in cash. Very sad that the bartenders do business like that.

Google
The black buzzard is a small music venue in the basement of Oskar blues. We went there to see a local band, Conquer Everest. We had a blast. The only downside is you cannot take food from upstairs to downstairs. So we ate some awesome sandwiches upstairs then went back downstairs for some more music. It's nice to see people giving local bands some place to jam.

Google
I want to commend this establishment. I walk with a cane when I'm having bad medical days. I wanted to see a concert downstairs at the Black Buzzard. I called and was told I would have no issues getting accommodations when I arrived. The door men helped me get down the stairs and the bartender Dalton helped me the rest the night. He was very kind, understanding, and went above and beyond to make sure I had what I needed to be OK before the show began. He got me a chair from the back room and made sure I could see ok and enjoy myself. A lot of people act like those with disabilities are a burden, but in no way did I feel like that at Oscar Blues. I saw a great concert and had an amazing time. Thank you!

Google
amazing venue, amazing security. super unique and as a musician, this is def on my list of dream venues to play at

Google
The downstairs venue is a great place to see local bands. Sound was good. Venue was clean. Bathrooms were clean.

Yelp
I had an amazing visit to Denver, especially after visiting Oskar Blues Bar. It's in an amazing location near the train station and downtown. The ambiance is amazing & the vibes are just as grand. I enjoyed the service and amazing drinks. I can't wait to go again when they have a live show. Try their Jambalaya, it's spicy and delicious

Yelp
Staffing is terrible. Struggling bar. Will be gone in the next couple months !!!!!!!!!!

Yelp
Flew into Denver for a show and my son found this place on the AAdining website so we decided to try it out. Really cool atmosphere and plenty of seating. Good variety of beers and although the menu wasn't too extensive, lots of different options to try. My son ordered the pulled pork sandwich and he ranked it pretty high. I got the OB burger, and it was really good. It was well cooked and delicious. Our server was awesome and checked in on us frequently. Definitely a place worth checking out when in the downtown area.

Yelp
Honestly, I just came for the alcohol on St. Patrick's Day and they did a great job. So five stars for you! That's all I got.

Yelp
In our brews across the Midwest we stopped in at Oskar Blues. We lost our OB brewery in Austin, it was such a nice place to stop in so we had to look them up in Denver. It's a very chill place to have some great beers. We had a couple of their IPA's and as usual were not disappointed. We had the opportunity to speak with the manager Chase, he is as chill as the place. The service here was great, the atmosphere is the kind of place you want to frequent on a regular basis. Let's keep our breweries busy, don't want to lose these gems.

Yelp
Flew into Denver for a kings/avalanche game. My buddy found this place on Yelp and we decided to try it out. Really cool and chill atmosphere and lots of seating. Lots of beers and although the menu wasn't too extensive, lots of different things to try. My buddies got the pub nachos, pulled pork sandwich, and fish and chips. They all said the food was really good. I got the OB burger and it was really good. Although it had a lot of ingredients and was pretty messy, the bread was nice and firm and the burger held together well and didn't fall apart. Nice and well cooked patty and the jalapeño's gave it a little kick. Fries were extra crispy and had a good texture and were delicious. Our server Sierra was awesome and checked in on us numerous times. They weren't too busy, but I appreciate when restaurants don't rush you or give you the check as a hint that it's time to go. If you're ever in the downtown area, check this place out.

Yelp
I had a weird schedule going on and I really wasn't that hungry around 9pm, after eating a late lunch. I was staying at the hotel next door and figured I would just walk over and get something lite. I walked in and ordered, from the bartender, a cup on the beer cheese soup and the hummus. Something simple, I think. It took a while for this to be prepared. Not sure why. The place was dead, as it was near closing. After about 10 minutes or so, I got my meal and took it back to my room. Well, the "plating" was kind of interesting. The soup was actually in an entree container, and the hummus was in a soup container, with the chips and veggies in a different to-go box. Now, I would have placed the cup of soup where the hummus was, and put the hummus and the veggies in the chip in the container the soup was. But, that's just me. Now, on to the taste of the food. The beer cheese soup was ok. This is the 2nd variety I have had to where it was almost like a dip and not a soup. The flavor was fine. What one would expect. No complaints about the hummus. Tasted like Sabra. Chips and veggies (carrots and celery) were fine. So, yeah. nothing to write home about. It served it's purpose.

Yelp
Excellent beer selection, adorable and super fun bartender, typical space - live music downstairs, more open, sporty hangout upstairs. We stayed upstairs, but we got plenty of da' base sitting at the bar.

Yelp
I had some time to kill downtown and thought I'd check out this place to learn about their blues music. "Blues" is after all part of their name. When you enter there is a staircase leading down to the music venue. It was roped off because this was 3:30 on a Wednesday. The bartender told me music is usually only on the weekends. She also told me that while blues was probably what they originally featured, it's now a mixture of entertainment with blues maybe being part of it. The place is definitely geared to large crowds. The main floor in front of the bar seats a lot of people. There are pool tables in a raised area in the back. And of course there's the basement where the music venue is.

Yelp
Stayed at a hotel nearby, and I'd read the reviews in advance. Overall it was a brewpub, and the kind lady serving the bar was attentive and friendly. I am a fan of Dale's Pale Ale, which is the reason for my visit. Food: had the prime rib sandwich with sweet potato fries. The meat was juicy and the au jus was a nice complement. The fries were decent. Beer: As mentioned, I came here because of Dale's, and it was tapped out. Very disappointing. They offered in the can, but I can get that anywhere. Service: Welcoming staff, helpful server Ambiance: it was really calm, though it was a Monday night. There were couples having a beverage and friends playing pool. Overall I wanted to give 5 stars but the fact Dale's wasn't available on tap just burst the bubble for me

Yelp
Since my time living out in Denver, Oskar Blues has always been one of my favorite breweries. It's hard to go wrong with their Dale's Pale Ale. When I realized that they now had a restaurant in Denver, it was time for my family to stop in for dinner one night while on spring break. Oskar Blues Grill & Brew is located just off the 16th Street Mall on Market Street, just a few blocks from Union Station. There was a good crowd when we arrived, but the spacious restaurant space allowed for a table to be had right away. Obviously, you will find Dale's Pale Ale on draft, but they also have a ton of other beers that aren't so common, especially out in Ohio. If barrel-aged Ten FIDY is there, be sure to give that a try! Other popular beers include Mama's Little Yella Pils and Old Chub. The restaurant also features a full bar and signature cocktails. For dinner, I had the spicy chicken sandwich which is tossed in honey sriracha, topped with coleslaw and pickled jalapenos on a brioche bun ($15 with fries and pickle slices). This was a really unique and good spicy chicken sandwich. It was pretty hot, so be sure you have plenty of Dale's Pale Ale to wash it down with! My wife enjoyed the pulled pork, and the kids menu had just about everything our littles could want on it.

Yelp
I'm visiting Colorado and my friends told me they've seen the place but haven't dined in yet. So after taking a 3 hour hike, we decided we might as well eat here and give it a try. The place has so much parking and the theme is very rustic/nature with a touch of bar feel. The inside is well lit, the seats are wooden but comfy to sit in and spacious enough to fit plenty of people. The place has indoor and outdoor dining along with a bar to watch any game coming up. The staff are great and patient especially since I had tons of questions for them since I'm not one of the locals. Our waiter suggested a great cider for me to try while I ordered fish and chips. The wait time was decent and everyone's drinks and foods came out relatively around the same time so no one was left waiting for more than 15+ minutes for a drink or entree. I knew my meal was nice and fresh because the piping hot steam coming from my fish made my mouth drool. Even when I touched the fish, my fingertips were feeling the heat. Taking the first bite was hot and crispy yet the fish was tender and juicy on the inside. The fries/chips were crunchy and hot. The meal was filling and I'm so glad I had a fresh hot meal. Would love to come back for a nice cold drink and hot meal sometime again!

Yelp
I came here during happy hour which is from 3-6. Wells drinks are $5 and some of the food is on special, including the pretzel, loaded fries, $1.50 wings, and a few other things. It's definitely less of a brewery vibe and more of a bar vibe. The bartender was very on top of things and made sure all the people sitting at the bar were taken care of.
google avatar

Yelp
everything about this place reminds me of a upscale American eatery the OB burger is hella fire little spicy if spices hit you as hard as me (little sensitive). but the BBQ burger is the best thing after a work out of just feeling fat love the people that work here haven't met a person that isn't awesome thank you Oskar blues yall are amazing thank you again
google avatar

Adam C.

Yelp
Oskar is a fun place to grab a brew, hear some tunes and chill. You will find plenty of bar food if you get hungry after enjoying your drink. The bar food is typical and very average in taste. I wish I been there when Oskar played live music. Even so I had fun.
google avatar

Becky B.

Yelp
Good place to stop and relax while out exploring Denver. Plenty of tvs and games on. The beer and pretzel were delicious!
google avatar

Yelp
Great service. Fun place. Visiting from east coast and stumbled in. If you want to feel welcomed stop by and see Chase or Dylan - good people.
google avatar

Yelp
Beer I tried was pretty good - Old Chubb 8% av Ordered tenders for the kiddo / catfish plate was battered but bland. Honestly was expecting more... The sweet potato fries weren't bad. They were regular degular. The best plate of the night was the mama wings which is like a sweet chili Thai base... However they are definitely the small chicken wings that probably came frozen because they definitely were not fresh. Had a John Daly Palmer which we couldn't even finish halfway because it was that bad. Downstairs has live music or comedy but is 18+. I would be back for the beer... I don't know if I would be back for food.

Yelp
Great beer, great bar, and a great selection! Knowledgeable staff and great service.

Yelp
it's my first food after landed colorado ; tried chicken sandwich, i basically don't like chicken sandwich but that one is really mouthwatering. inside decoration is really innovative: server is friendly; like it and recommend to everyone to try their chicken sandwich

Yelp
Stank in there and it was awful even by the open windows. So dirty. Was waiting 15 before being "greeted" at our table. I put quotes because the server didn't say on word to us. We couldn't even put in a drink order when they came by. We left and went somewhere else.
google avatar

Lauren B.

Yelp
We go here a lot for work lunches and the main reason for a lower score is because of the slow service. The food is really good though but they are always out of different beers.
google avatar

Andrew J.

Yelp
Nice bar with plenty of TVs showing every live sport (including the tennis who h was cool to see). There's a few beers on tap but most of what you see on the menu is going to be in a can. It doesn't mention it in the menu but you can order flights if you want to try multiple tap beers. Service is fast and professional, at least it was for 2pm in the afternoon which isn't very busy. Social distancing is enforced which is great to see.

Yelp
Stopped in at Oskar Blues because we heard the Taylor Swift music! This place did NOT disappoint. We went for a few drinks before the Taylor Swift concert Saturday night in Denver. I had two margarita, one regular & I also tried the midnight marg. I liked the regular margarita better! These margaritas were a quick reminder that we weren't in Utah anymore too. My friend asked for something nonalcoholic & her drink was beautiful & tropical with pineapple, perfect for Summer. We both really liked it. But let's talk about the star of the show, our waiter, Anthony! He is so phenomenal! Made sure Taylor Swift music was playing while we were there, danced with us at our table & honestly just a true gem. He made us some nonalcoholic shots & they were delicious & fun to take. The vibes were are fun & everything looked so clean. I love the bike wheels on the walls which I failed to get a picture. Check this place out & ask for our favorite guy Anthony!

Yelp
Stopped here for dinner and drinks while in town. The decor is awesome. Love all of it. We sat outside but kinda inside cuz the garage doors were open. Loved that they had their own seltzer on tap. The glasses they came in were awesome too. The food was really good. The staff was great. They gave us some awesome stickers to add to our collection. We would definitely go back. The truffle fries were delish. With that garlic aoli. So good! The yaya's chicken sandwich was so good I kept eating even after I was full. The pretzel and beer cheese dip was really good as well. Our friend liked his fish and chips too.
google avatar

Victoria D.

Yelp
I'm a big fan of their smoked chicken wings. Yes, the service could be better, but I don't take off stars for service unless it's awful, and it wasn't. I also call in orders for their chicken wings and they are friendly and have my food ready for pickup within 15 mins. Onto these chicken wings. I get them with the buffalo sauce, which has a nice kick. The wings themselves have a really nice Smokey flavor that really complements the buffalo sauce. The smokiness really makes them stand out from other chicken wings I've tried in the area, so these have become my go to. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Very impressive food at an otherwise inconspicuous bar scene! I'm familiar with Oskar Blues beer and was so excited to stop in for lunch one afternoon. We sat at the high top tables in the bar area and I was surprised to see that only one person was working behind the bar as well as taking orders and bussing tables. I wish I had caught this guy's name because he was just to attentive and efficient. Our drinks and food were delivered on time and everyone's order was right. I guess with the staffing shortages, they only had one person to do it all. The salad was so fresh with plenty of ingredients that went so well together. I photographed the cheeseburger but unfortunately, did not try a bite (much to my dismay). I heard the burgers were really tasty and those truffle fries!! Yes please. Truffle everything. Definitely recommend stopping by Oskar Blues if you're in Denver.

Yelp
Came here for opening night at the B-Side. It's a new music venue downstairs beneath the brewery. My friend from work is the front man for a band called The Study Abroad, who was their first act. The sound, lighting, and atmosphere overall were great. It's a really cool place, great staff and great drinks if you're into that sort of thing. The food from the brewery looks pretty good too, but they don't have anything vegan except for a side of fries or grilled veggies. If you ever get wind of a show here, you should go. You won't be disappointed

Yelp
We actually found this place by accident and out of laziness because we were planning to go eat at a place next door that unexpectedly changed their hours last minute so we settled for Oskar Blues. Beer can galore! Everywhere you look in here is decorated with beer cans. Our adorable waitress was as attentive as can be despite how busy the place was. Being pretty hangry, we ordered nachos as appetizers that was pretty huge in proportions. Our waitress joked that maybe that could have just been our entrée right there. Unbeknownst to her, she just created a premonition because that's exactly what happened. It was ridiculously delicious. The meat tasted like they grabbed rich people steak that would melt in your mouth and slapped it onto crispy nachos with the tastiest high quality toppings that was far from bland and plain soggy. It was probably the best nachos I've ever had. (I've said this comment for another place, but I'm willing to be unloyal because these nachos are just way better.) I also ordered pasta as my entrée which I only took like two bites from since the nachos were so filling, and they were just okay. I think this place is probably better for their appetizers.

Yelp
Great food. Great service. Great beer. Reasonable prices. What more could you want? We stop here often on the way back from Estes Park.

Yelp
We sat at a table during happy hour. No one ever greeted us and we sat at the table for 10 min with no server so we left. There were 3 bartenders at the bar laughing and made eye contact with us yet never acknowledged us.

Roger M S.

Yelp
A friend recommended that we have dinner at Oscar Blues since we were staying in Denbver and a few blocks from the restuarant. The selection of beers was excellent. The menu for a brew pub was very nice. The beer battered Fish & Chips was probably the best fish & chips I have sampled in the USA. The fish was crispy, not oily and the fish was very moist. Fresh cut fries and homemade cole slaw accompanied. Big portions. Service was excellent.

Yelp
YEAH BABY ! My wife and I were on vacation in Denver staying at our Aibnb house in the Highlands district. After parking our wheels in the Larimer Square Parking Garage we were heading to a restaurant in Larimer Square for a reunion lunch at 1pm on Wednesday, August 31st with one of my wife's old friends. And then I spotted this Oscar Blues Bar and I just had to have a look inside. Oskar Blues Pale Ale ( using Aussie hops and one of the first craft beers in a can ) was one of the first American beers I enjoyed soon after we moved from Australia to California in 2007. A GREAT TASTING BEER INDEED ! I checked out a bunch of stuff and then used their bathroom....immaculate too ! WHAT A GREAT SPOT !
google avatar

Yelp
Super thankful for the manager- Dalton Blues!!! Big o Dalty!!! Thank you for making my friends/I night and the hospitality while we're out in the town. Aye buddy if you're ever up in Vancouver....hit us up

Yelp
Came here to pay homage to the best beer I came home to, after a busy 12-hr shift! Beer and food is superb!

Yelp
the fries are fantastic and the beer selection is vast... loved it. thanks! Our server Sierra was top notch.

Yelp
Good beer and even better food guaranteed a good time at Oskar Blues. My boyfriend and I just stopped in for drinks and apps and we were very satisfied with all of it. For food, we got the crab cakes and fried tomatoes - this was so delicious!! The mustard sauce it came with was a nice addition to the cakes & tomatoes, especially because I love my sauce! For drinks, we both got the G'night, which is a powerful, flavorful IPA. It wasn't too too busy as we got seated quickly on a Friday night. Service wasn't super attentive but I'm not too needy haha so that was fine with me. I'll definitely be returning for more good beer & Cajun grub - the entrees all looked delicious!

Yelp
I'm a big fan of this restaurant and bar because it gives you that good hometown feel. I came here for happy hour on a Wednesday night. It goes from 3pm to 6pm. You get $1 off certain beers. Which makes the Oskar Blues draft beer pretty dang cheap. Half priced apps isnt so bad either! We got the trio of sliders. Normally $8, with half price it was only $4 for 3 sliders and they were dang delicious!! In the trio they had chicken they had a short rib, pork, and chicken. The chicken was a juicy fried chicken and was definitely my favorite. I also loved the live music they had! Yelper tip: Follow them on Facebook, they are always posting fun events at their bar or the bar downstairs. I've come to some pretty dang entertaining comedy events before!!

Yelp
Here's how it went---- I did a Yelp check in and got a "1 free beer with another purchase of a beer". Great!! The beer offering was excellent. I had the Dales Pale or maybe it was the Scotch Ale. Either way, I had several. My wife and I are trying to decide on what to order when the guy comes over to us with a full order of wings and says--- someone misordered these-- do you want them? Sure!! Free wings and free beer. Does it get any better than this? My wife ordered the nachos. Again, the guy from the kitchen comes out with a photographer to take pictures of my wife's nachos (no double entendre here). Apparently the chef just perfected a new culinary recipe and was very proud to promote. It was fantastic!! Sat at the bar and watched football on multiple TV's. Friendly team and great environment. Lots of great beer too!

Yelp
Went here today with work colleagues for the first time. Love the decor, a bright spot in homeless Denver. Food was amazing I had this spicy chicken sandwich and my colleagues had the salmon salad and smoked chicken wings and the Oskar Blues beers was refreshing I had the mama pilsner. Great service and we all loved our lunch. Will be back.

Yelp
If you have a time to wait on food more than an hour then go here, horrific experience with service , waiter with glasses was so rude and on drugs some sort and drunk , insult added to injury his language was extremely cruel I think his name was Lucas . Downstairs was filthy and gross . Food was yuck and drinks were ok , it was weird atmosphere and very funky smell behind bar . We are not returning to this place , horrible.

Emily R.

Yelp
If your ID doesn't have the real ID star they will NOT let you in, regardless of official government state rules. Because of this I missed out on part of a Denver Ghost Tour
google avatar

Yelp
Cajun chicken pasta came out warm. The pasta sauce and vegetables were good but the chicken was a bit dry. Friendly staff and clean space.
google avatar

Yelp
The food was meh. The ambience was ok. It was only one waitress that took long to come back to ask for an extra thing.

Yelp
We stopped at Oskars on a Saturday afternoon at 2:30 and the place was very busy. Fortunately seats were available so we sat and ordered a beer. Nice that they separated choices into hoppy and not hoppy! The Pinner is a good hoppy beer with the grapefruit flavor I like. I ordered the crab cake and fried green tomatoes. The crab cake was good; the tomatoes soso- reminiscent of pre-made frozen. My husband had the mushroom soup which he said was good. Skip the deep fried pickles. They were ok but for $7 he only got 5 slices. We just had to try the bourbon ball. For $2 you get a fudgy round ball in chocolate sauce with powdered sugar sprinkled on top. A little bit of bourbon flavor but not much other flavor. I'd skip it next time We'd give this place another try some day but not our favorite. Could not find it on Yelp so wonder if there may be other listings. It's not at the Oskar Oyster bar location.

Yelp
Some great beers, including one of my favorites that I had not had draft before. Judging by the burger and fries I had, the food is great as well.
