The 15 Best New Restaurants in Tokyo - Eater

"Finally, Shin Harakawa has returned to action, more than a year after he walked away from his much-loved restaurant, Beard, in Meguro. For his new project, the Blind Donkey, he’s teamed up with Jerome Waag, formerly head chef at Chez Panisse. The inspiration of Alice Waters is evident in everything from the bistro-meets-California cuisine, the support for sustainable farming, the natural wines, and the mellow vibes that serve as a refreshing break from the rowdy drinking dives around Kanda Station." - Robbie Swinnerton

If you are looking for a fabulous multi-course meal, I highly recommend this delightful French restaurant located in a fun part of Tokyo!! Service was great; the wine selection was top notch. If my memory is correct, they change the menu regularly.

Perfect first night in Tokyo. Loved this place. Great food, wines and especially staff. Low key, neighbourhood and very welcoming. Would go again in a heartbeat. Love the branding too.

The food was fantastic! I went with my mother and the two of us were the only customers. We showed up 15 minutes after their open time and seated 15 prior to our reservation. The only problem I had was the lack of knowledge that the staff had on what they were serving. 1) My mother ordered a nigori sake which was pricy. What she was served was what she ordered, but the bottle had been apparently opened quite a long time ago and bacteria had contaminated the sake and caused it to sour considerably. 2) After her meal, she ordered a hot coffee and received what appeared to be a super watery diluted coffee. Like they filter used coffee grounds through not a second time, but weak enough to think that the weak coffee grounds was filtered three times. Once again, the food was fantastic, but the attention to quality on the drinks that were being served was awful. The staff needs to understand what they are handling and the price/cost of items on the menu. Once again we were the only customers through our whole meal. The back of the house was watched and instructed by the chef, but the service and front of the house were unsupervised. I would not recommend going here if you plan on having anything to drink unless they educate the staff. The atmosphere was plain but the view was entertaining.

This restaurant near Kanda station did not disappoint. The staff were incredibly friendly and service was exemplary. We shared the course menu that included a wide variety of fresh, delicious dishes including salads, pasta, seafood, pork shoulder, and more. The pleasant ambiance of the restaurant added to our positive experience and we would be happy to return.

I think The Blind Donkey was the best dining experience my partner and I have ever had. The food and the pace that it came out was timed perfectly. We got it paired with natural wines, which were amazing. The serve was great and the venue is simple and homely. Even the music choice was excellent. I would 100% go back.

This restaurant is located in business district near Kanda station. Every food was delicious! Especially octopus paella, venison patty with mustard sauce. The sauce was aromatic of dill. The pricing is not very reasonable but taste is worth it. I liked cozy atmosphere and kind staffs.

Big fan of Shin-san’s Beard in Meguro, and happy to finally enjoy a meal here. Really enjoyed the laid-back vibe, respect for high-quality local ingredients and the connection with their producers. It can get a little pricey at 10K+ for a course meal and a few drinks, but i can justify that this is the price you pay for the level of integrity in providing fresh ingredients directly from producers - and for these businesses to survive.

An absolutely exceptional place to spend an evening. The food is cooked directly in front of you like your own home. The Chef/owner is devoted to home grown ingredients. The food itself is nothing short of Michelin star at a fraction of the price. The entire staff are all so clued up on the wines, and if you ask nicely enough you can access their entire collection. Btw, all the wines are organic. A gastronomic experience anyone should try.
