"The Washington Post critic Tom Sietsema’s been a long-time fan of chef Andrea Pace, formerly of Fairfax’s now-closed Villa Mozart, and he follows him to his new two-story, four-room inn in Rappahannock County. “One of a handful of dishes to make the trek from city to country is Pace’s signature rye ravioli, so thin you can see the fresh spinach slipped inside, and rounded out with mountain cheese. To start is to finish the pasta,” he writes of The Blue Door Kitchen & Inn’s concise menu. He’s eager for the restaurant to mature, but calls other winners like rice balls, grilled shrimp, the half chicken, and fruit soup for dessert." - Adele Chapin

The blue Door kitchen & Inn may be a bit of a drive but it’s well worth it. The atmosphere is warm & inviting- not pretentious or overdone. The service is wonderful , with lots of attention. And the food is absolutely wonderful. Chef Andrea creates amazing dishes, with wonderful tastes of the season and local fare. Beautifully presented& full of flavor. The wine selection is excellent & reasonably priced. They have a lovely bar for before or after dinner cocktails. Blue Door I truly worth frequent visits!

Me and my fiancé had an appointment to meet the owners to discuss our wedding reception. We showed up at the time we scheduled and the door was locked, after knocking for awhile they opened the door but they had no idea who we were. After we explained who we were, they made us feel like we were a bother to them. When I asked what kind of food that they were going to cook for our reception she simply said, fish or beef and WOULD NOT elaborate. When I asked her to be more specific, she made me feel like I was dumb for asking that question. She said just read the reviews!! This is why I decided to write one for myself. I told her I’ve ate there before and she’s answered be by telling me NO YOU HAVEN, which I have. The food is OK but not as good as they think it is. Every question I asked she responded in a way that was so disrespectful and rude.

My husband and I came across the Blue Door on a post-pandemic trip to the area. Seated outside on the patio, we were amazed by the presentation of the many plates that passed us by on their way to neighboring tables. We were also amused to see that we shared a last name with the chef! But the surprise of the night was the quality and depth of flavors in each of our meals. We were truly amazed to find such a gem this little town of Flint Hill! My husband has returned for dinner when he hikes in the area, and this time, we made a special trip together to celebrate our anniversary. We stayed two nights at the inn and had two incredible meals from start to finish. These included wonderful wines to choose from, with several local vineyards of high quality (including Gadino Cellars Nebbiolo). I enjoyed octopus and beef tartare as my starters and both nights ordered the ravioli, the filling changing both nights thanks to the inspiration of the chef. Dessert did not fail to disappoint, and the apple strudel on night one and chocolate mousse the next, with accompanying garnishes, completed the meal with the right amount of sweetness. Before checking out, I was touring the garden and was happy to have a chance to talk to Reem about their culinary journey! She stepped outside and we talked not far from the patio at which I first enjoyed Chef Andrea's cuisine. It was a lovely way to wrap up our visit. I told my husband that I would be happy to accompany him on some more hikes...knowing that a delicious meal at the Blue Door would be a well-deserved reward!

Has spontaneous dinner (just driving by, decided to stop). Very accommodating and knowledgeable staff. Great chef ! Enjoyed walking in the gardens. Wish we could have stayed in one of the rooms... but our destination was calling.

We live locally, and have not stayed in the inn, but we are regulars in the dining room. The food is excellent quality, beautifully prepared, and always interesting. The wine list is very good, with some great value wines that bear out the expertise of the staff. The service is friendly, and right on the mark. There are more expensive places to dine in the county, but this is the real deal, and worth every penny.

Amazing food! I highly recommend the duck & sweet potato dish. We finished up our time with some coffee and dessert. The service and general "vibe" were great. 5/5 stars! -Jesse 11 yo

Google
Simply Fantastic!! This was our second time dining at the Blue Door, and they knocked it out of the park again! The presentation of the food was lovely, and more importantly everything was delicious and prepared perfectly. The service was amazing, even though they had hosted an event earlier in the day. The menu is limited, yet updated often with local offerings and flavor, including fresh items from their very own garden. Dessert was amazing as well, so be sure to save a little room. :) This is a must-visit restaurant that you will want to continue to return to and that will never disappoint.

Google
I saw this place had 4.9 stars so expectations were high, and it was one of the best meals we’ve had in a long time! Octopus, halibut and shrimp chittara were all delicious. We’re not usually dessert people, but the starter and mains were so good we decided to try the espresso semifreddo and apple strudel - both were delicious! Ambience and service was welcoming and enjoyable. Definitely worth the trip, we’ll be back!

Yelp
Fine dining and impeccable service at The Blue Door was a highlight of our stay at the Marriott Ranch nearby. Appetizers, led by tuna tartare, were inventive and flavorful. Rockfish and rye ravioli were similarly exquisite. Chocolate mousse for dessert capped off a splendid dinner. Absolutely loved The Blue Door restaurant!

Yelp
Stopped by while in the area recently and had a great meal at blue door. Cute space, not a huge dining room and there's a bar on the other side. Didn't get to explore the property much but it looked niced. This is a more casual spot with an a la carte menu that makes fresh pasta - most of what we had was great. The octopus appetizer was a standout - perfectly cooked. the lamb shank with pecorino crust was a table favorite. desserts were also pretty good, and no complaints on service really but it was a touch rough around the edges (which is fine, this isn't a tasting/michelin level experience). Would definitely return when in the area for a more laid back meal with solid food

Yelp
Stopped by after a day wine tasting based on the recommendation of a friend who had been here before. I liked the variety on the menu and everything came out well executed. Just wish there was a tasting menu!!

Yelp
We made reservations here after it was recommended by our AirBNB host. It's a family run restaurant and inn that has a great ambiance. The owner took our order immediately and made drink recommendations from their seasonal menu. Both were delicious. To start our meal, we ordered the beef carpaccio and beet with burrata appetizers. We loved them both. For our main course, I ordered the lamb shank and my husband ordered the wild boar gnocchi. The gnocchi was definitely the star for the main course. It was so comforting and perfect for that cold evening. For dessert my husband ordered the apple strudel and I ordered the hazelnut semifredo with espresso sauce. We paired them with an espresso martini. It was the perfect way to end the evening. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because it took a very long time to receive our desserts. The owner was very nice and made us aware there was a 14 person party being served at the same time. It was the only delay during our dining experience. The food was great so we will definitely be back next time we are in the area.

Yelp
We came here as a party of 4 for a celebratory dinner on the Saturday before Thanksgiving. The location and setting are beautiful, setting the expectation for a delightful evening. We started drinks: a cocktail for my wife, champagne for my daughter, wine for her husband and scotch for me. All good. Appetizers were soup for some and beets with burrata for others. Very tasty. For main dishes, we had wild boar sausage with gnocchi, veal shank, and rwo servings of fish of the day. Really reaalllyyyy fantastic! Just for fun we got two deserts to split and they were great also. This restaurant is not far from the Inn at Little Washington, in both distance and quality. It is truly outstanding! Definitely make plans and go!!

Yelp
Man, Blue Door Kitchen - you started off strong, but then it was sharp decline afterwards! We came here for Valentine's Day, and they had a 3-course prix fixe menu, along with an extensive drink list. We ordered: +the salad - with baby arugula, sliced pears, pine nuts, and dressed with a honey apple cider balsamic that came with 2 breaded and fried goat cheese balls - this salad was super fresh and super delicious; probably one of the better salads we've had! +the tartar - prepared with yellow fin tuna, black truffle balsamic vinaigrette, and a topping of mustard ice cream; the tartar was fresh, but could have been slightly colder; the flavors weren't too overpowering and had the right balance +the Chef's hometown rye ravioli with mountain cheese, baby leaf spinach, chives, and Grana shavings - this was pretty awful - the filling tasted like a bad ricotta with spinach, and there was some type of butter sauce; the dish was just super bland and had hardly any flavor to it; this was not finished +the beef tenderloin with a potato chive cake, celery root puree, and a huckleberry red wine sauce - the tenderloin came out a medium rare, but it may have been a bit more medium; while it was stated that the tenderloin was selected with care, it was a bit more tough; the huckleberry red wine sauce was more red wine forward; the chive cake was grainy and didn't taste like potatoes nor chives; the celery root puree was more on the starchy sweeter end +a heart-shaped fennel creme brulee atop a sweet waffle with a blood orange sorbet - we expected the typical creme brulee, but this seemed like some type of a sponge cake that had some browned sugar on top; the blood orange sorbet had a slight citrus note to it, but it was overly sweet; this was probably one of the worst desserts we've had a white chocolate mousse with Maraschino cherry gelee, honey ice cream, and white chocolate crumbles - really wasn't feeling this either, as while the presentation was cute, there was hardly any flavor or sweetness to it Service started off great - our server was super nice and welcoming; however, she never checked in with our entrees and desserts, even though she mentioned she would, and we were hoping to share that we were super disappointed with them; it seemed like they were focused on clearing the tables, handing us the check, and that was that. Honestly, I left still hungry and had to nosh on something on the way home. The restaurant itself is dimly lit, clean, and it seemed to have been recently renovated with flooring and such. There's plenty of parking in the lot in the front on the sides. Reservations are required, and there is no dress attire. I'm glad we were able to check this place out, but I'd rather go up the street and dine at that B&B! +great appetizers +avoid the entrees/desserts +inconsistent service +reservations required +plenty of parking in private lot

Yelp
Crest Hill Road leading from Marshall, VA toward Flint Hill has incredibly gorgeous scenery. I had never been on it until last night as we were heading to the Blue Door Kitchen and Inn. Fabulous restaurant and inn, owned by a northern Italian husband, the chef, and a Lebanese wife, the main dining room pro. Fabulous, unique food, small outstanding menu. Great wine list. Nancy's birthday dinner was terrific.

Yelp
Magical evening dining in the garden. Gnocchi was amazing. Overall a superb experience

Yelp
Wonderful and creative food, service was impeccable, and the drive out there in late afternoon was breathtaking!

Yelp
I would give this restaurant 10 stars if I could! The food is always on point with flavor and cooked to absolute perfection! Chef Andrea Pace is a true culinary master!! We have never had one bad meal here since Chef Andrea puts his magic on every dish! It is clear that he is very passionate with his work because it shows on every single dish he puts out. We had been enjoying his amazing meals ever since he was in Fairfax City at Villa Mozart and were sad when we thought he was going to retire, but when we learned that they were opening up their new restaurant and Inn, we were thrilled since we would be able to once again enjoy Chef Andrea's amazing creations! His wife, Reem, is wonderful as well. She is an incredible host and always ensures everyone is happy with their meals. We always look forward to reserving special occasions here and we hope to for years to come!

Elaina B.

Yelp
Really great food, ambiance is a little modern but the food was spot on with flavor. Loved the mozzarella and the lamb was delicious!!!

Richard B.

Yelp
Wonderful meal. Chef is amazing. Many thx, Meghan! Beautiful place. Great value. Lovely people.

Jessi S.

Yelp
Amazing food in an elegant setting. Cocktails were crafted to perfection- the fall Paloma was a sweeter twist on the original and the rusty door was a smooth and easy drink. Paige, our waitress, was very knowledgeable and helpful despite how busy she was waiting on other tables! We started with the octopus appetizer- so tender and definitely not chewy. The main attraction were our lamb entrees. I had the rack of lamb- it was cooked exactly to temperature and each bite was heaven. The gnocchi with lamb shank meat was also very tasty. Portions were pretty small, but packed a lot of punch.

Zack M.

Yelp
Went here on a date and was absolutely happy with the service. The bartender Megan was amazing and made the best drinks. Our server Paige was also amazing and extremely professional. The food was delicious and I couldn't get enough of it. Highly recommend this establishment to anyone!

Dona P.

Yelp
Amazing! Came for a large luncheon and it was fabulous! Beautiful setting - home grown produce - gourmet cooking ! Had the halibut and the squid ink shrimp hand made pasta - plus spring salad and beet burrata salad. Chocolate soufflé and strawberries and cream finished it off... if you're in the area & looking for a gourmet pitstop, look no further ... a hidden gem for sure !

Barbara Y.

Yelp
Food and service are excellent! It's a great little higher end restaurant with a beautiful atmosphere.

Miki D.

Yelp
Service and food were fabulous. Eggplant mushroom soup, Italian ham appetizer, tuna tartare were incredible starters. Gnocchi with beef tips, sea bass mains were delicious. Highly recommend Apple strudel for dessert. Coffee was also very tasty. Can't wait to return! The only negative aspect was being bitten by mosquitoes (6 bites within a few minutes of being seated!), however the restaurant had bug spray which worked in keeping the mosquitoes away for the remainder of the meal!

Yelp
A wonderful place to dine in! My parents and I were on vacation to visit Shenandoah National Park. I made a reservation for a pre-celebratory birthday dinner. I requested outdoor seating and boy was the scenery exquisite. We sat on the patio and we could see one side was their produce garden and the other side a floral garden. I sat next to their butterfly bush, which smelled oh so lovely! The staff and our server were so nice and attentive. We started off with cocktails; a lemon martini and rusty door. They were both very good! We then ordered an octopus with pickled onion and potato salad. The octopus was so tender with a nice smokey flavor and the pickled onion was a nice tang with the smoke. We then ordered a chocolate pasta with sliced duck breast and butternut squash, halibut with butternut squash puree, and lamb shank with risotto. EVERYTHING was DELICIOUS! The duck was so juicy and tender and the chocolate pasta was a nice touch. The lamb shank had a parmesan crust which was amazing. The halibut was cooked perfectly as if it melted in my mouth. Lastly, we ordered fennel creme brulee sitting on top of a sweet waffle and a chocolate ice cream with a hazelnut outer shell. I definitely forgot to take pics of the dessert. Compliments to the chef and his cooks!!! If you are interested in dining at Blue Door Kitchen, definitely make a reservation. If I visit Shenandoah again, I will be coming back!

Matthew J.

Yelp
My wife and I have been traveling the east coast for a week and dinner at the Blue Door has been the highlight of our trip by far!!! Everything was incredible and felt like a five star resort! The restaurant is a MUST VISIT for everyone staying in the area! everything was perfect from the service to the ambiance (eating on the back porch with the garden and tree lined hard was gorgeous!) to the wine.....and the FOOD! We cannot rave enough about the food! The rack of lamb was the best that I've ever had and the desserts are to die for! We cannot wait to come back!!

Alexander F.

Yelp
Very tasty food presented beautifully. This place is Located inside the old Flint Hill. The inside has been nicely redone. They have a nice bar as well as ample outdoor seating for the warmer months. Nice place to go for a special occasion and priced reasonably for the quality.

Howard G.

Yelp
A wonderful surprise. Every was consistently well done Best chicken I've had in a long time. Restaurant itself is a visual surprise with nice decor Our server Paige was awesome and so helpful. Don't miss the strudel. , chicken, pasta and the potato soup ! Worth the drive from DC

Yelp
While in the Hume area visiting one of our favorite vineyards on a beautiful Sunday, we made reservations to come to Blue Door Inn Kitchen for dinner. Upon arrival, there was only two other tables sat, but they had many tables set and socially distanced outdoors, under a very nice, large tent with fans to keep the air flowing. Within an hour, the place was packed, so we were very happy to have made reservations a few days in advance! Paige was our server on this visit and she was very outgoing, friendly, knowledgeable, helpful and attentive. Her serving skills were excellent; we've eaten many times in this particular area over the years and the level of service she provided was more in-line with bigger city, higher-end restaurants. They have a very nicely set-up menu, loaded with some really appetizing eats, in various stages, such as "bites" before "appetizers" and all portions were substantial, especially for their great prices they charge. They have a very nice wine list and cocktail list, offering many wines by the glass as well as bottle. When it came to the food, it was scrumptious! Their house-marinated olives were very nicely done... Arrancini was incredible... field greens salad was stunning with the lightly crusted goat cheese... rye ravioli was outstanding (unlike any ravioli I've had before)... Rock fish was incredible! Unfortunately, we were too stuffed to try dessert, but we can't wait to return and maybe try dessert next time. If visiting Hume, Linden, Washington, Sperryvile or Flint Hill, do yourself a favor and make reservations to stop by for dinner!

Britney C.

Yelp
This restaurant is truly an experience. I am so glad we came here for our anniversary dinner. The food, staff and ambiance made the experience so great! I recommend getting the Celery Root soup starter. It is just bursting with flavor and so creamy. I got the Gnocchi with octopus and the pieces were cooked to perfection. It was not chewy or rubbery. The gnocchi was so soft and the flavors all together were perfect. Lastly, they personalized our dessert that we ordered which was extremely thoughtful and sweet. If you saved room for dessert, definitely try the apple filled pastry with sour cream ice cream. I love apple and was intrigued by sour cream ice cream. Just get it!

Carole W.

Yelp
Chef Andrea did not disappoint. My rack of lamb on a pea purée was as beautiful as it was delicious. Very attentive service on the patio. Loved it!

Dave L.

Yelp
Very interesting dining. Unusual but innovative and delicious food. Great energy in the room by folks enjoying good company and a great dining experience. Highly recommended.

Ron R.

Yelp
Based on last year's stay and dinner, we again chose this special place Inn to celebrate our anniversary and my wife's birthday, and to dine two nights with Chef Andrea's exquisite culinary feasts and sip elegant wines. And co-owner Reem is a treasure, making one feel special and at the same time part of the family. The outdoor dining in the beautiful and natural garden setting makes one forget the madness of our daily lives just an hour away. The service is attentive and friendly while allowing plenty of time for enjoyable after-dinner conversation as the rest of the wine is savored once the elegant deserts have been finished. Highly recommended for a relaxing getaway. We'll be back!

Daniel S.

Yelp
Still my favorite restaurant in the world ... but then again I've only eaten in about 60 other countries. Great taste, great presentation, great seasonal variety, great ambiance, and great service. If you want something special, try it out. Thanks for always delivering.

Mark D.

Yelp
Leisurely service at brunch. Had their steak and eggs offering, which couldn't be ordered to temperature. The steak was pretty rough, basically beyond well done. Everything else was fine.

Lisa C.

Yelp
When we learned that Reem and Chef Andrea were opening a new place called Blue Door Kitchen and Inn, we got very excited. Villa Mozart, their prior restaurant in Fairfax, VA, was about 15 minutes from our home. Although now a longer drive for us, Blue Door is definitely our "new" Villa Mozart - and more. We have enjoyed two lunches and one dinner at Blue Door since their 2018 opening. And we'll be back for more. If you are acquainted with the former Villa Mozart restaurant in Fairfax, VA, you will find the same outstanding food quality, selection, and beautiful presentation from Chef Andrea at the Blue Door Kitchen and Inn. Of course, we loved the superb formal service and seasoned wait staff at Villa Mozart as well as the dressier atmosphere. At the Blue Door Kitchen and Inn, we have found a more relaxed service with knowledgeable wait staff and a homier ambiance. The property itself is stunning. Parking is easy. From the welcoming front porch, you walk into a lovely foyer where you will be greeted by one of the team. There are two large dining rooms with tables that are spaced far enough apart that you don't feel like you're joining the conversation at the neighboring table. The bar area opens to the back deck, patios, and an extended garden and grounds. The Blue Door's elegant bar is well-stocked with spirits and boasts a worthy cocktail menu. I've tried the refreshing Hugo cocktail of elderflower syrup, Prosecco, and fresh mint. I can imagine this Hugo cocktail would be also lovely while enjoyed outside on the patio in the warmer months. On cooler nights, weather permitting, you can sit outside the bar area on the spacious deck next to a roaring wood fire. The food is still outstanding quality as Villa Mozart's although slightly tailored for the Blue Door's relaxed atmosphere. The menu is divided amongst Bites, Share, Starter, Main, and Sweet sections. The lunch menu has differed slightly from the dinner menu and each menu has changed with the seasons. As nibbles with drinks before our meals, we've tried the totally addictive rice balls with a rich San Marzano tomato sauce and also the light and herby marinated olives from the Bites section. The elegant Yellowfin tuna tartar starter is spectacular with its citrus ricotta and accompaniments. I've always loved tuna tartar and this is one of the best that I've tasted. My husband declared the poached octopus starter as the most tender octopus he's ever tasted. He also enjoyed a white polenta and black truffle soup with sea scallop on our second visit. One thing that I must report: The daily specials were so delicious at Villa Mozart that I rarely ordered from the regular menu. And never once had I ordered Chef Andrea's hometown ravioli. What a mistake! That pillowy hometown rye ravioli, stuffed with soft cheese and fresh spinach and draped in a simple butter sauce, is now one of my favorite dishes on Blue Door's menu. My husband enjoyed a perfectly grilled steak and salad lunch entrée on our first visit. On our second visit, I tried a delectable creamy buttery porcini mushroom risotto with an added seared scallop: Entrée perfection. My husband enjoyed the hearty pumpkin gnocchi with wild boar sausage. On a later visit, he enjoyed a succulent duck breast with sweet potato puree and Brussels sprouts. I'm still dreaming of that perfectly prepared wild halibut with bell pepper puree and rich crustacean sauce. The wine list will please even the most difficult diner. If you can't find a wine with which you are familiar then be sure to ask your server for a new recommendation. Several good local Virginia wines appear on the menu as well as wines from Italy, France, and California. Desserts are delicious so be sure to save room for them. I'm a huge chocolate lover so the olive oil chocolate mousse was my first choice. My husband very much enjoyed the chestnut semifreddo with persimmon sorbet that we shared. The ambiance is pleasant and not too noisy even with music playing in the background. We were pleased to see that the restaurant was almost full for both lunches. Dinner was pretty busy with no empty tables yet we could still have a conversation at our table without having to raise our voices. We did not feel rushed at any meal. There are a few minor missteps here and there. We were offered bread with oil for dipping but then not given bread plates. Entrees were brought out before emptied starter plates were cleared. We ordered a shared dessert which arrived without spoons. Once we had to ask for water to drink yet the other two times it was offered. Just a few issues that can be overlooked in a newly opened restaurant yet will eventually be resolved. We are looking forward to coming back again in warmer weather to spend time outside on the deck and patio areas. The well-tended garden is a delight. I can imagine spending the weekend here at the Inn in one of the rooms and having lovely lunches and dinners outside in the colorful garden.

Annalee S.

Yelp
This restaurant was not really to our taste - just adding a review here because we chose based on yelp and others seemed to like it. If you are used to city dining, you may be disappointed! And it was pricy, $100+ for two.

Lori W.

Yelp
My amazing fiance and I were fans of the owners when they owned Villa Mozart in Fairfax VA. Now we made the journey to Flint Hill VA to stay at their newly owned & refurbished inn with a restaurant on site. Glad we did. you should visit as well. Great escape from the 'crazy' of DC...! Chef Andrea Pace is truly outstanding and knows his cuisine. 4 luxe guest rooms with private bathrooms. fabulous outdoor space with plenty of room for private dining or a wedding. Our room had sample sizes of Crest toothpaste-small detail but important especially when someone (me) forgot the toothpaste!. Love the beautiful custom made dinner ware used too. We were warmly greeted by partner Reem Arbid who remembered us ( probably remembered my fiance more than me!) who welcomed us for my birthday weekend. -Poached octopus, grilled fennel, baby arugla, kalamansi dressing. -Fior di latte mozzarella, marinated heirloom tomatoes, diced cucumbers, avocado. -organic young half-roasted chicken, root veggies -signature pasta dish ( the BEST) homemade rye ravioli (so thin and delicious), mountain cheese, chives, Grana shavings. Megan took great care of us and she was professional, knew the menu and checked back with us - what a wonderful ambassador of the Inn. Great escape - i have my sanity back for at least a couple days because of our experience here. Know they will do great there! Go visit!

Rory K.

Yelp
This place, formerly the Public House, has been purchased by a couple that ran the Mozart's Cafe in Fairfax. It has only been open two weeks as of this writing, and they are being very careful about the issues that come with opening a new restaurant and bed inn all at the same time. The menu is not large, which to me is a very good sign indeed. It doesn't need to be any larger. The welcome, the service, the food, the whole atmosphere were all hugely impressive. See the menu picture I posted. Sitting on a Sunday afternoon on the patio, enjoying a lovely glass of white wine, watching children play quietly the in gardens, instead of being glued to iPhones, was most relaxing. The staff are so pleasant, led by Meagan, who really is one of the finest servers and team leaders I have seen. Highlights for me were the starters. The fresh produce used to produce these was superb. For mains, we ordered vegetarian risotto and a stunning good homemade spinach ravioli. Olive chocolate mousse was the decadent closer. This place is in its very early days, and will become a "go to" place once word gets out. Really impressed.

Peggy T.

Yelp
We had a wonderful birthday celebration dinner for my husband the other night. We sat outside overlooking their lovely garden and lawn. We shared the buffalo mozzarella with beets, which was delicious. My husband had the rockfish and I had the bucatini with shrimp and they were both fabulous. For dessert my husband had the apple strudel with sour cream ice cream, which was incredible, and I had one scoop of elderflower sorbet and one scoop of passion fruit sorbet and they were both incredible as well. Reem was a welcoming and delightful hostess and we had a wonderful evening. We will be back!

Mar M.

Yelp
Lovely spring dinner outside in the garden. Pretty surrounding, good food. Loved the white asparagus soup. The waitress was a little much. She seemed to judge our choices, and actually questioned my husband when he didn't order an alcoholic beverage. She also made a comment about both of us ordering the same entree. Strange.

Noah S.

Yelp
Note: this is definitely a 4.5 star-plus establishment, but Yelp doesn't facilitate half-star reviews. Went here for a 1-year anniversary on Sunday, May 2nd and it was the perfect spot. The wait staff was on-point, even with only one waiter and one waitress for 10-15 tables. The ambience was also quite lovely. We sat outdoors in the dinner area behind the inn, and walked through the gardens while waiting on our main course. Our starters were excellent: the organic spring mix with crispy goat cheese and aged sherry vinaigrette, and beef tenderloin carpaccio. The cheese in the salad must have been really good because my girlfriend specifically left the it for last. No negatives here, both were delicious. Our mains were the ravioli and the rack of lamb, respectively. My only complaint of this entire review comes from the apportioning of the ravioli, which seemed somewhat sparse, perhaps reflecting it being a seemingly low-cost menu item. The rack of lamb, on the other hand, was cooked to a medium-rare perfection at the recommendation of the chef. The spaetzle pasta was also well done, and the herb crust on the lamb was a delightful touch. For dessert, we could not choose just one, so we ordered all three. The apple strudel was flaky and fell apart at the tap of a spoon, and while the sour cream ice cream was an interesting addition, paired nicely with the dessert. The chocolate tort was to absolutely die for, and the banana ice cream accompaniment was mild enough to not be overpowering. Finally, the hazelnut semifreddo was a very nice addition to the ensemble, and while it was probably the most muted of the three flavors, the dessert most certainly held its own. I guess I need to brush up on my Italian because I was not expecting an ice cream-like texture in the middle of the hard hazelnut shell, but it was a well-received surprise and might have been my favorite. Overall, this is a great spot for a special occasion, with menu prices that won't break the bank. It was recommended to me by a friend, and I will recommend it to you all as well!

Yelp
My new favorite place. By the time our group reached our dinner destination, we had been in full celebration mode for over 8 hours. We were loud and the sophistication of this place probably fell a few rungs when we walked in. You would have never known it. They treated us all like kings and we ate like kings. The ravioli, gnocchi, lamb, fish, chicken dishes...we are all still talking about them. This beautiful spot provided the perfect ending to a wonderful day. Definitely worth the drjve, we can't wait to come back. Eat local, folks :)

Yelp
This place is a delight. I've eaten here a few times. At first, I wasn't sure and didn't even think to review it. But the consistency of the food, service, and ambiance has won me over. The food and drink are thoughtful and beautifully presented. In the fall, they serve a butternut squash soup with a perfectly cooked scallop. In the spring, they serve a similar asparagus soup with a similar very lovely scallop. It's like a re-invention of a great culinary inspiration. The rhubarb dessert? Out of this world. I've never been a rhubarb/strawberry aficionado, but that concoction has me hankering for that particular southern sweet. The actual dishes -- I mean the bowls and plates -- are so beautiful that I'm pretty sure they're handmade. I have a fondness (weakness?) for lovely dishes, glassware, utensils, and this place hits it on all counts. The actual bar is also gorgeous -- handmade in wood by a local artisan. It seats about seven or eight very comfortably. The chairs have backs and the temperature and ambiance always feel just right. Add four very clean gender-neutral bathrooms, and what could be better? How about a seasonal multilevel dining deck off the back that's covered and lit with tiny white lights? So beautiful! Much care has gone into the details here. Service is always good. On a recent visit, when I walked in the front doors (of what looks like a private mansion, not a restaurant/bar), I was greeted by several hostess as though they were really happy to see me. A server was standing with them -- it was early in the evening -- and he recognized me from my visit six months earlier. This is an attentive place! They also are warm and fun without sacrificing service. I'd go back anytime. And, in fact, I went back the next night!!

Yelp
What an amazing find! We just happened to drive past The Blue Door and thought it looked very inviting. So we went to the website and saw all the great reviews and made a reservation. We were not disappointed, both the service and food were exceptional. We had an early reservation for dinner and enjoyed a cocktail as we perused their menu. Our group of four decided on the burrata cheese and beets, the cucumber, soup and tuna tartare to start. For entrées two of us enjoyed the squid ink pasta with shrimp and the other two had the chicken special. One in our group has a severe food allergy so the chef prepared her entrée separately to avoid any possibility of cross-contamination. Everything was exceptional, including the service. Paige was our server for the evening and she was friendly, courteous, and professional. While the prices at The Blue Door are not inexpensive, we didn't feel as though they were excessive given the quality of the experience.

Yelp
I am a grazer, which means I like small frequent meals. It also means that I fill up quickly. At restaurants, I usually bring home a least half of my meal, with having no appetizer and no dessert. I had all three here, appetizer, entree and dessert and went home hungry. There was bread in the place, and we were never offered any but after seeing it brought out to the table next to us, we asked. I was hungry!!!!! Flavors were ok, but for the prices that they charge, I expect really happy tastebuds and tummy. We were very disappointed.

Yelp
What a great combination of flavors. To begin the meal I had the tuna tartar and butternut squash soup (I like two staters) followed with a main of a delightfully cooked rare beef tenderloin. ...Topped it off with their apple strudel desert. What a great meal. I definitely will return.

Yelp
Delicious, fresh, creatively made food. Beautiful surroundings and cheerful, helpful service. What more could you want? My wife and I were staying in the area for our five-year wedding anniversary. Reem was wonderful in helping us get a last-minute reservation, and our server Channing could not have been more lovely, helpful and hospitable. It was the perfect place for us to celebrate our special day. Make sure to try the braised lamb, and for dessert, the sour cream ice cream!

Yelp
This place is the real deal - a world class destination restaurant located in the rural foothills of Virginia. I have been to many major world capital cities and have been lucky enough to eat at some renowned restaurants. However, never have I had a better meal than at the Blue Door Kitchen. Starting with the cocktail, I was bowled over. Light, bubbly and only slightly sweet, my bellini set the stage. The tuna tartare appetizer was a delightful firecracker in my mouth; each bite set off a different taste bud as it rolled around my mouth. The lamb likewise was superbly cooked to medium rare and it reminded me why I not a vegetarian. It had the most fantastic pecorino cheese crust on it - an unexpected and welcome addition that elevated a dish that I never thought needed any improvement. Thank God we left room for dessert because the apple strudel (a nod to the chef's home area of Tyrol) was perfect - not too sweet and the strudel crust was crunchy and light. The service too was 1st class. From the moment we checked in for our table, each person was nicer and friendlier than the prior, without interfering with our special evening meal there. One of the owners was our server and she was charming, knowledgeable and interesting - she even showed us around after dinner and introduced us to her partner, the talented chef. It truly was a dinner of superlatives and we will definitely be going back!!!

Yelp
The service and staff were great and attentive. And the outdoor seating was very nice. But the food was not good, especially for the price. In fact, I got violently ill after eating the beef tenderloin, which was the worst food poisoning of my life. Also, the portions were very small, especially for the price (again). We were still hungry after leaving the restaurant. Nice restaurant but extremely overpriced for what you get.

Yelp
Food is 4.5; lodging is 2 Start with the accommodations - overpriced and sterile. And not much fidelity to truth in advertising - the suite is a large narrow room where a TV separates the bed from a couch. That's not a suite. And "bed and breakfast hospitality" - there's no breakfast. The common space is a tiny and unappealing area with a coffee machine and refrigerator. For $245 with no meal this is a terrible value. On top of this, the recommended (Google) route from the DC area was closed on 2-25. We were diverted in a snowstorm to a huge detour on 3-8. Maybe the mgt could have mentioned this in an e-mail sent 3-7? Had we known in advance we would have taken a different route. The meal was very good. Mr. Pace does excellent pastas and we miss Villa Mozart. But the "inn" is one of the worst lodging values I've ever seen and hope others avoid.

Yelp
We're staying in Sperryville and had to find something tasty to eat. The Blue Door delivered a great experience. We reserved a table but ended up sitting at the bar. The bartender Matt was very attentive and welcoming. In fact we enjoyed talking with him so much we sat there for two hours. The food was delicious and portions were plenty. Matt makes some incredible mixed drinks (do try his mint mojito). The mint is grown in his garden and is a unique strain to the area. It was a hit amongst a good many people in the restaurant. Overall excellent dining experience, we will be coming back soon!

Yelp
Great experience from beginning to end. Really stoked to have another wonderful dining option in the Fauquier and Rapp area. The menu changes often, which is always a good sign for freshness and seasonality. Our waitress was super nice and attentive. They also have 4 guest rooms upstairs so if you're traveling from DC or a greater distance you can book a stay. If the weather is nice I'd recommend eating outside, the ambience is perfect. Can't guarantee what we ate will be on the menu, but Ravioli, Roasted Carrots, Salmon, Burratini were all delicious - and get dessert!

Yelp
A special find in the Shenandoah Valley. From cocktails to appetizers to main courses and desserts we have been uniformly pleased with the quality of ingredients, the careful presentation, and the friendly service personnel. The owners treat you like friends if you become regulars. The dining room is well designed and you can hear yourself talk, and the two section outdoor patio is spacious and surrounded by beautiful gardens and landscaping. The guest rooms appear gorgeous on their website but we have not stay there as we are locals.

Yelp
Dined here on a Saturday night outside under the tent and WOW!! The tent is nothing special, but the food is unbelievably delicious and plating is just as beautiful. This is a chef who truly cares and is putting out NYC quality food in a small town inn in VA. We enjoyed the Culatello appetizer, lamb shank, rye ravioli and strawberry semifredo. I cannot wait to come back - this place is something special.
