Beautiful little spot in downtown Lexington. The food was exceptional, we had the baked brie, sautéed spinach, roasted broccoli, mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, and filet, which was cooked perfectly to order. The mac and cheese has to be ordered separately as a sharable side and while the portion size was not massive, it was one of the best macs I have ever had. Service was impeccable; we made a reservation and the front staff had us seated immediately at a perfectly clean and prepared table. The waiter was phenomenal - not overly eager to serve, but made sure we were always taken care of. As for the atmosphere... As the name suggests, The Blue Heron puts on the appearance of a coastal lodge, with a beautiful rustic interior of real wood fire places and exposed wood trusses. What confused me, however, was the choice of music. Higher-end eateries are usually filled with quiet, smooth jazz or classical numbers, yet this place seemed to have a preference for a blend of techno, alternative, and electronic. All fine genres by any count, but not what I dream of listening to while on a romantic date at an upscale spot. This didn't ruin the meal by any means, but something to note if you're a snob about that kind of detail. Overall, I highly recommend The Blue Heron.
