"The Blue Pig Tavern in Congress Hall is as popular with hotel guests as it is with locals and vacationers staying elsewhere in Cape May and other shore towns. From the signature skillet dish filled with fried eggs, hash browns, chorizo, peppers, onions, and cheddar cheese to the strawberry mascarpone stuffed French toast, this dining spot offers tempting menu items of a wide array. Additional tavern specialties include avocado toast, steel cut oatmeal, and bagel and lox." - Kristen Kwiatkowski

"Located inside the historic Congress Hall Hotel in Cape May, the Blue Pig Tavern draws a crowd, both during the summer and in the off-season. If you’re searching for a sensational dining experience ranging from soups and sandwiches to entrees, the cafe is a good choice. For soup lovers, look no further than the housemade chicken noodle soup which features generous portions of chicken, fresh vegetables, herbs, and egg noodles. You can enjoy this item as a starter or order the soup and sandwich combo which comes with a grilled cheese sandwich for a complete meal." - Kristen Kwiatkowski

"Blue Pig Tavern is another Cape May dining destination that uses Jersey tomatoes aplenty in its eclectic menu offerings. Even better: The tomatoes are sourced from neighboring Beach Plum Farm. The Blue Pig Tavern’s culinary team use their tomato haul to create menu items such as the eggs and tomato, t tomato grilled cheese, and the tomato and lox bagel sandwich, to name a few of their tomato-themed creations." - Kristen Kwiatkowski

Yelp
What a great place to have lunch. We sat outside and it was a lovely outdoor area. The napkins have cute blue pigs on them. We weren't super hungry so we decided to split the lobster roll. It was really really good! I recommend it if you are considering it. We had cocktails as well and they were great. Service was on point. I would happily eat here again.

Yelp
Great place to sit outside and people watch in Cape May, NJ. A part of Congress Hall, this place is right in the heart of Washington Street where all the cool local shops are. Staff is friendly and the food is delicious. I highly recommend the Eggs Benedict or Eggs Blackstone to start your beach or shopping day. If you stop for lunch the Turkey Avocado and Bacon Sandwich will get you right through the rest of the afternoon!

Yelp
Any restaurant that has been in business since James Madison occupied the White House is surely review proof. The Blue Pig nestled inside Congress Hall in Cape May is just such a fixture serving American Classics to a constantly sold-out patronage. The fare can be uneven but last evening it was superb offering up flounder and an almost perfect Fish & Chips that melted in your mouth. One downer is the outside patio that used to be isolated by a tall hedgerow is now wide open to surrounding vehicular traffic and a brutal sun. I'll just have to give President Madison a piece of my mind. Five colonial stars for an enduring classic.

Yelp
Food was terrible service was good but I wasn't eating the server... . Dark as a cave in dining room

Yelp
Lovely setting, great breakfast! Fresh orange juice was amazing, and I've been dreaming of the potatoes ever since! However the restaurant doesnt allow for any substitutions, and the menu was a little misleading with what they offered. If you arent staying at a B&B, this place is wonderful for breakfast, especially on a rainy day by the fire place!

Yelp
Nice service on the patio. Beautiful breakfast! Mimosas a gorgeous poached egg-can anting be better?

Yelp
We loved The Blue Pig! We sat in the enclosed patio which was a nice break from the summer heat-it was lovely. The food and drinks were delicious, we had the charcuterie board to start and then we both had steak frites-everything was delicious. Highly recommend!

Yelp
If you are looking for a casually elegant style Sunday Brunch spot that has something for everyone on their menu, and specialty beverages, THIS IS THE PLACE! My husband and I had a lovely Sunday brunch this June morning. We were pleasantly surprised to be seated outside in the shade -without a reservation, in less than 20 minutes. Our server Ana was very nice, attentive and very professional. We were blessed with beautiful weather and never felt rushed to turnover our table. Their brunch menu included a wonderful assortment of culinary delights. My husband chose the California omelette with pepper, onions, cheddar cheese, chorizo sausage and avocado. It was light and fluffy and came with roasted hashbrowns and toast. He also had a side order of blueberry pancakes that were loaded with blueberries and nice and light. He chose the matcha mojito to drink, which was light and limey -just the way he likes it! I had a hankering for Taylor ham and saw a patron at the next table enjoying the Sunrise Sandwich - so I ordered that. My sandwich had the ham, eggs and cheese on a croissant. It also came with roasted hash-browns that were golden and crispy. I chose the sunrise drink of orange juice, seltzer and lemon which was also light and refreshing. Lastly, while waiting to be seated, I saw a waiter pass by with two delicious looking cinnamon buns - my favorite. They are offered while supplies last, so I ordered one to go. No regrets!!! Make sure to get your hands on one (or two if you don't like sharing)!

Yelp
We went here this past weekend (Saturday after Labor Day) for lunch. Food was great, but service could have been better. I noticed all other tables were having their water glasses refilled, but it took us until the end of the meal for our waitress to check up on us so we could ask for more water. We ordered the chicken BLT and the tavern cheeseburger. My husband and I LOVED our dishes. The bread for the chicken BLT sandwich is so good, in addition to the herbal mayo. Would definitely come again, but hope service would be better next time.

Yelp
It being our first time in Cape May, it was recommended by a family member to try The Blue Pig Tavern. We stopped by for breakfast, and had an amazing meal. We had the Avocado Toast, Buttermilk Pancakes, a side of Hash Browns, Eggs Blackstone, and Healthy Start. Everything was freshly made. The restaurant is located in a historic house that was well-preserved, spacious, well-lit, and clean. The staff was also friendly and accommodating.

Yelp
So for me the rating has gone down a little. Service was good The A/C was good on a hot day. The clam chowder was good. Better than some of the seafood restaurants around here I had the pulled pork sandwich and thought it was bland and tasteless. A total miss for me. The fish and chips were good And the tavern burger was nicely done. The chicken ranch sandwich was also good Like I said. I had a bad dish in my opinion but the rest was not

Yelp
Beautiful place. Such slow, slow service. Inefficient seating even with a reservation. Food was hit or miss, crab cakes in Cape May should be way better than this, mentioned to the server and was met by a blank stare and an offer to bring another one (?) So many options for dining in Cape May. Congress Hall has cocktails down - not so much the food. I hope they can shape this up before the season really kicks in. Prices are high but not really relative to others in the area so not a factor in this review. Need better service and consistent quality and maybe we can add a star.

Yelp
We had such a lovely dinner at the Blue Pig. The food, the service, and the ambiance were wonderful. We had drinks, appetizers, entrée and dessert was all all spectacular!

Frank N.

Yelp
Had the Burrata salad with grilled peaches and salad. So tasty. Burrata was made perfectly and tender! Such a nice ambiance also! Wait staff was very attentive too!

Jacqui D.

Yelp
It could have been a 5 star experience. But ... Despite the reservations made weeks in advance we were shoved into a corner, The seared flounder was delicious but the prime rib special was a piece of meat so fatty I could see it from across the table, the demi-glaced tasted like jarred gravy (personally I gave yet to order a prime rib special and think the meat was that good), The tiramisu was tasty but very dry, The banana pudding was delicious but very small. However, the house bread and the cappuccinos were outstanding.

Yelp
i couldn't wait to get here! although our stay was cut very short since they had someone in a pig costume come out to take photos which scared our daughter hysterical, what we did enjoy was good. the service is good and accommodating especially since we planned on staying for the day so we had a large wagon they had no issues with us parking it along side the wall outside which sounds trivial but as people with kids, we always try hard to not inconvenience already busy places. menu has a great selection! drink menu also looks great but it was early so a mimosa was all i ordered, this time!! they did give us a free stuffed animal for my daughter since they felt bad they ruined our time unintentionally, but i wished they would have comped the meal since we didn't even have a chance to eat it. we'll be back likely!

Yelp
Came here for lunch with my family recently and had an OK experience. We were seated immediately, which is always appreciated, and the dining room was pretty nice. Definitely fancier than I expected, but they didn't complain about our swim wear, so that was nice of them :) My main issue with our lunch was that the service was incredibly slow. There weren't many people eating there but it still took an insanely long time to get our food, and the server seemed quite absent throughout. I ordered the blue crab sandwich and it was very tasty, so I can't complain about the food. If we were in a more relaxed mood (we had a toddler with us), I could have maybe handled the long wait better, so we'll definitely keep that in mind for our next visit if we come back :) Overall, good food and not-so-good service.

Sarah J.

Yelp
The service was excellent. Our waiter was busy with two larger parties that included drunk parents and unattended children, and he was still able to keep our waters filled and laugh at one of my dad jokes. We started with the lobster salad which was very fresh and the dressing paired perfectly and did not take away from the sweetest of the meat. The crab cakes were much more crab than filler and I felt that they had a very balanced spice blend. I personally would not have thought to order the pot pie, but it was a cold and windy day and it ended up being a great surprise. It was filled with delicious veggies and the spring onions really made the whole dish for me. I also have to short out to whoever pulled the chicken because there was not one unpleasant piece (I have a weird gristle thing). Overall I think that the price matched the food and the service. We would dine again.

Yelp
I can't believe we never ate here before. Fabulous experience all the way around. To check in you go thru the main doors and go to the far left. They do take reservations through their website. We sat outside in the beautiful courtyard. Food and service was wonderful. We also brought our little dog Maizy with us. We had the meatloaf wrapped in bacon which was excellent. An arugula salad with two sides, salmon and chicken. We shared the sides with Maizy. Everything was perfect and we truly enjoyed our night.

Yelp
We stopped here for lunch for my birthday, the place is so cute and they even have a wood burning fire place we got to sit by, it was so cold so this was a huge bonus! They even gave me a birthday card and desert with a candle in it, which was a nice touch! The food was delicious! We had a burger and really good salad. Unfortunately the service was terrible, there was a huge party as well as a few smaller parties that came in well after us and they were all served and gone way before us, it took over an hour for a burger and a salad, there was only two of us. If you eat here make sure you have an entire afternoon to spare because it took us over an hour to get food and was a good 20 minutes before we could even order water and iced tea. Otherwise though great atmosphere and food.

Mary T.

Yelp
Just had another great meal here with our favorite waitress Lilia. Soups, sandwiches, coffee all good the fact that u can valet park at the hotel entrance is definitely a plus. Decor is perfect for the time period. Not priced any higher than anywhere else.

Paige G.

Yelp
We love coming here for lunch. They have delicious sandwiches. The staff are so nice and friendly. It's always a must for us when we are in Cape May!

Karen L.

Yelp
Stayed at Congress Hall for a few week days as a winter getaway. It was convenient to go to the Blue Pig for breakfast, lunch or dinner. First night I had dinner I ordered the scallops and calamari. Amazing. Next day breakfast- Eggs Benedict . Awesome. My last night for dinner I was going to drive to another restaurant but decided to just go downstairs , save the drive & coat,... Glad I did. I had the best dinner EVER. I ordered the Sea Bass . OMG. The absolute BEST Sea Bass I ever had. Served over a perfectly cooked risotto topped with a crunchy topping of bread crumbs, crushed nuts and herbs. I have ate at restaurants in LA and Malibu and this trumps the Beverly Hills of Sea Bass. A true 5 star meal. The service was supreme as well. I will share with many on my social media. I would even drive down for a day trip to enjoy this meal again. Top Chef works here.

Yelp
Go here for a blue pig martini, the amazing bread, the filet and mashed, the tuna special, the halibut, the short rib, the ratatouille and more! Was here a couple times before twice pre covid when BP was amazing and then during covid something changed and there was a limited menu and there were issues with food so I took it off my list but let me tell you the pig is back in the game and will be on the rotation this summer!!!! They changed chefs a few weeks ago and the new chef is on point!!!!! You better find out for yourself!!! Make sure your hungry so you can try all the things. Don't sleep on the tuna special...at first lol I was a little dissapointed there weren't any chips to enjoy with it but the soy sauce, sprinkle of salt and seasoning, mango and fresh avocado were the perfect combination. It's one of the top tuna tartar apps I've ever had. The portions were generous and the prices were reasonable! Our waitress was excellent. Everyone enjoyed their meals and rolled out of the restaurant. Highly recommend as it's fit for foodies!!! Yay! So happy I gave BP another chance!!

Yelp
Blue Pig Tavern is a must for us on our Cape May trips! The calamari is delicious, as are all the other dishes, and drinks. The ambience is lovely, especially in the evenings . Staff are polite and helpful, and service is excellent!

Leigh L.

Yelp
The ambience on the outside patio is the best. Inside is ok. We were seated at the indoor patio by the window so that wasn't bad. Server was initially attentive but when it came time to get the bill he was nowhere to be found. We had the banana foster waffles shaped like pigs and grilled cheese with the best jersey tomatoes. Food was delicious. I would go back again. There was a lot of food that I would still like to try.

David L.

Yelp
Need to wait for 25 minutes for the Sunday branch. They did not call. After 40 minutes we went there and got seated. Wait was long on ordering and then the billing. Food and drinks were very good.

William S.

Yelp
My wife & I have been coming to eat for a long time. Sorry to say, The Blue Pig is not what it use to be. our server was excellent . But the food was bland and mediocre at the best. The volume of people talking was beyond normal range. For the pricing you would think it would've been better. Very disappointing

Shawn M.

Yelp
We had a horrible experience at the Blue Pig Tavern. I posted a review and was contacted by the GM Shortly afterwards. He promised me a gift certificate which was never received in been 5 months now.

Klaudia W.

Yelp
Food staff drinks amazing! Cant go wrong with this spot if you are in Cape May even if you're not staying at the Congress. It is open to the public and they have a variety of food options. Their bread was great as well at their margaritas!

Paul L.

Yelp
What a great gem in Cape May! My son and I were in town for one night to see my other son graduate from US Coast Guard Boot Camp. I was upset we missed the dinner on base because of a nightmare at the rental car company but so happy with what it caused. Great ambiance... restaurant looks like it has been there for a few hundred years (although it is only a few decades old). Great service.... i wish I could remember our server's name. Mint Julep was the best I have ever had. To be honest it was the first I have ever had. I am a straight bourbon or Old Fashioned guy but wow was that Mint Julep good. My son could not slow down as he devoured his bacon wrapped meatloaf and mashed potatoes. Not sure how he had room after eating all the appetizer bread! And then his apple pie was the icing on the cake. I wish we were in town long enough for a second meal.

Carrie H.

Yelp
There aren't many places to go in Cape May in the winter so we followed the lights and found the Blue Pig My lemon cocktail was nice, calamari appetizer hot and tender, mussels were tiny and tender. Service was good. Outdoor seating had plenty of heating if needed

Alice G.

Yelp
I may have had the worst food out in a long time at the Blue Pig the day after Christmas. I ordered a lunch vegetable omelet. I expected the usual -onions, peppers, cheese, etc. The fillings were not listed on the menu. Now I know why. It came filled with uncooked kale and uncooked radishes. It was disgusting and had an awful flavor. Horrible. Service was bad as well. When I told the waiter about the awful omelet- he laughed. My dining companions' meals were not good either. The crab cake was fishy and the chicken wrap dry dry dry. So disappointing.

Tina K.

Yelp
Absolutely would recommend this restaurant!! It is a bit pricey, however the food was delicious. I had the bacon wrapped meatloaf and it was awesome!! We reserved dinner three weeks prior for a family reunion, 15 of us, and they were VERY accommodating. They had us at two tables at first and we requested that the table be moved together. They jumped to it and placed us all together. The place was very nicely decorated and the staff were attentive and friendly. I would go back!

William Thomas C.

Yelp
We spent a few days at the Star Inn and the Blue Pig is part of Cape Resorts properties. So, making a reservation was super easy. For dinner of lunch you can not go wrong here. Appetizers we had were Tavern Macaroni & Cheese made with Aged Cheddar, Fontina, Toasted Panko Breadcrumbs. And Deviled Eggs of Mustard, Mayonnaise, Smoked Paprika, Dill. Both delicious!! Entrees consisted of Crab & Clam Pasta made with Campanelle, Light Citrus Butter, English Peas, Green Asparagus and also Cape May Day Boat Scallops with Roasted Cauliflower Puree, Romanesco, Spring Onion Vinaigrette. My lord!! Awesomeness to it's finest! That was dinner. Then we had breakfast two of the mornings there. I had Eggs Benedict both times, and loved it! My wife had pancakes and fruit. Loved it!! This is probably the finest restaurant in Cape May. Minor issues are still to this day, that it is very dark in the Blue Pig. It's been that way for some years now, but it does not negate the food.

Ben M.

Yelp
We tried Blue Pig Tavern for dinner this time and things seemed a little off. The mac and cheese as well as the meatloaf entrée were all on the blandish side. The food this time around felt more geared toward mass production without a lot of thought for the quality - considering the price. The meatloaf was nicely plated and the sauce tasty, but the bacon-wrapped slices were kind of dry and unremarkable. It also seemed like the bread basket we received was a day old. So in the future, I think Blue Pig will be a breakfast-only venture.

Gwen P.

Yelp
Service was slow for a Sunday w not that many customers, but it's okay bc the food still came out hot and fresh. This was your standard breakfast food, so nothing too crazy or exciting. Filling as American breakfasts are. Sprinkled some Tabasco on the breakfast skillet for some added flavor. TBH, most of the flavor came from the chorizo. If not for that, I would've needed some salt.

Kimberly R.

Yelp
I am in shock. The utter lack of hospitality and service for the price here is wild. The food was fine, however, due to a clear lack of wait staff support so many missing items from dishes and details were missed. Spend your money elsewhere. Do not sit on the patio as you will also fight off bugs. A wonderful anniversary despite this restaurant.

Kaylee G.

Yelp
The breakfast was phenomenal! We had multiple locals recommend this place for breakfast specifically. The French toast was so fluffy and tasty. If you don't like sweet breakfasts, this item isn't for you. My partner had the Eggs Blackstone, which were poached eggs on top of bacon, spinach and a cheddar biscuit. Sooooo good! We ended up getting 4 biscuits to take home. Will absolutely be coming back here again. The meats and vegetables come straight from the Beach Plum Farm and were cooked to perfection!

Jim A.

Yelp
Great At Christmas festive food is great also !!! Must make a reservation! Lights tree shops make it so much like Christmas!

Natty C.

Yelp
I loved this restaurant in Cape May. It is a really nice experience especially if you sit outside. Their drinks are expensive! Food was delicious. Clam chowder was 5 stars and so was everything else.

Ralph S.

Yelp
Lettuce wedge too much blue cheese Beef tenderloin was tough and very salty Service was excellent Ambiance was nice, not loud easy to talk Mac and cheese was very cheesy Would I come back? Maybe

Larry G.

Yelp
No visit to Cape May is complete without breakfast at the Blue Pig Tavern. The perfect compliment to the history, charm and elegance of Congress Hall. We've been coming here for decades. We recently brought 15 of our friends and now they are regulars. So many wonderful choices - omelettes, waffles, eggs Blackstone with fresh fruit (up charge) is my personal favorite. Coffee is always fresh, add a spicy Bloody Mary or Mimosa to round out breakfast. We love dining in the outdoor garden.

Katrina V.

Yelp
Loved it! Came in for breakfast as a walk-in and we were seated almost immediately. Breakfast menu was decent, cappuccino was delicious. Waiter was very nice. Great atmosphere and decorations.

Erin F.

Yelp
The Blue Pig is an excellent Brunch spot. The staff is always very friendly, on our last visit the waitress brought us a bowl of berries to go with our mimosas. If you go in the summer, I highly recommend ordering off the special tomato menu. I've tried a few dishes and they've all been spectacular. The atmosphere at Congress Hall makes it one of my favorite places to go. I've also gone for drinks on the lawn, and while it is a great place to sit and enjoy a drink and maybe a snack, the drinks were on the more expensive end for what you get. Both of our drinks were served in nondescript plastic cups, and when we ordered one of the sangrias and it tasted like fruit infused water. Another note worth mentioning is that it is very hard to get through on the phone. I tried probably 30 times over the course of 2 weeks and never even spoke to a person. They were slightly more responsive over email. I ended up reaching out on Instagram, and they were very responsive there and were able to update my reservation easily.

Trevor H.

Yelp
We had breakfast twice when we stayed at Congress Hall. Breakfast was amazing! Service was fast and they keep your coffee cup full. Recommend the bacon and there skillet breakfast.

Marianne Z.

Yelp
Love the food and the ambience. I find the servers lacking in a "personal touch" and attentiveness. However, that never keeps us from returning.

Ivan H.

Yelp
Great food, great ambiance . Your staff! So polite, so conscientious, so accommodating! Excellence! Great job.

Melissa B.

Yelp
Awesome place to check out. Food was delicious and so quick! Highly recommend both the skillet and eggs blackstone. So good! We were so full. The hash browns were super crispy. Server was great

Matt G.

Yelp
We went here around Christmas time (late Nov/early Dec) and Congress Hall/Blue Pig Tavern do such an amazing job with their decorations. The lights, the ornaments, the fire place... it's truly beautiful and I would come here to eat just for the ambiance alone. I'll be honest and of course this is just my opinion, but their dinner menu isn't very "grabby". Nothing really stands out that makes you say, "We have to get this!!" The two appetizers we ordered were both VERY good, but unfortunately that was the highest note of the meal. We got the braised short ribs on cornbread and calamari to start - both were seriously amazing. Definitely get the short ribs, they're perfect to split with another person. For dinner, my girlfriend got meatloaf and I got scallops. Both meals weren't bad, but for the price, we weren't really impressed. It was relatively standard. Not terrible, not amazing - I would not say this was the best dinner we had in Cape May. For dessert we got their creme brulee of the week, which was apple cider and that was amazing. We scraped the bowl clean with that. Overall, I would definitely come here again but hopefully they add some more innovative or unique items to their dinner items.
