On the Grid : The Blue Room

"Among the collection of dive bars in Burbank, the Blue Room is bar far the classiest dive bar you'll find. The blue lighting mixed with turquoise blue leather booths compliment this classic cocktail bar. Be sure to notice the port-hole bathroom signs with stenciled typography, and antique cash register that runs this cash only bar. Their Bloody Mary is spicy and there is no shortage of specialty liquors for just about any cocktail." - Jennifer Beatty

The Best Dive Bars in Los Angeles | Eater LA

"A relaxed dive bar in a less trafficked part of Burbank, Blue Room is a no-nonsense dive bar with a welcoming interior, swift service, and dirt-cheap drink prices (though it’s cash-only). The scotch and bourbon selections are fairly respectable, and the back patio is great for those who need to get a quick smoke (or even a longer one, as there’s heating provided in the winter). Beware, the men’s bathroom has a rare trough-style urinal, which is somewhat hilarious and gross at the same time." - Matthew Kang

An absolute classic bar! I’ve been meaning to get here for years, and glad I finally did! Such amazing cocktails, service, and atmosphere! I will be back!

Google
Step into The Blue Room, a legendary cocktail lounge that has been around since 1947. This classic dive bar offers an impressive selection of liquors and cold beers, along with an accommodating staff and an AMI Jukebox that adds to the ambiance. Make sure to bring cash, as this bar doesn't accept credit or debit cards, but the experience is well worth it. There is an ATM in the back. #TheBlueRoom #DiveBar #burbank #classiccocktaillounge

Google
First time to experience this Burbank dive bar and I would be a regular here if I lived in the area. It’s like stepping into a mid-century modern movie set from the 1960’s. Everything is blue, the lighting, the seats. Drinks are not overly pricey. They do have a back patio if you are looking for that. Very clean and not crazy crowded on a Saturday. The bartenders and patrons and very nice and lively. That vintage neon sign out front sets the tone for the whole experience. I really had a great experience with my friends here. Fun times!

Went for drinks with friends. Super friendly staff, excellent service! New, fav place to hang when in Burbank! Gorgeous decor!

Google
Cash only! There's an ATM inside in case you need it. We stopped by here to kill some time before we had to fly out. Great spot to chill inside where it's laid back and has AC. Restrooms were a bit of a tight space but it makes sense considering that this this dive bar is from the 1940s. Plenty of spots to sit but the tables and chairs can also be a bit of a tight space as well. There's a jukebox for music and a TV you can watch sports on. Drinks were fairly priced and strong enough to give a slight buzz before we headed out to the airport. Bartender was very friendly and told my husband some history of the the bar. They have live music during the weeknights, which is pretty cool. Stevie Wonder had performed here last year and this bar has been used in a few movies too. There is a parking lot in the back so two different entrances to get inside. It's worth checking out if you love dive bars. We'd come back again.

Google
Thank you for being a cash only bar! The rest of this town is skimping out by being card only! I agree that yours is a classic joint! Keep it up.

Mike “Mikey” Peters

Google
A stellar cash-only dive bar that seems to get it's own share of action. I was on a date and we came after hitting the Haunted Hayride about 7 min away. I'm pretty sure I was about to get hit on by two women but after grabbing my date's hand on the way out, I heard one say to the other "oh, he's on a date". Weird but oddly felt ordinary from a place like this. I remember overhearing a woman say "I love being married!" then leave the place with someone I'm sure wasn't her husband. They have a big liquor selection and a Wi-Fi type jukebox to play whatever you want. The blue booths stand out and the whole theme of the place reminds me of a ship anchored to a port, it's like you stepped into a Captain's ship. I like that they have a food truck outside so if you get hungry they allow you to bring food in while you drink. The bathroom was clean and out of paper towels but luckily I saw the bartender going into the stock room, so i told him and he thanked me and changed it right away. Good place to stop and get a drink.

Google
One of the oldest bars in Burbank. Drinks and shots were reasonable. Bartender was fantastic. Cash Only is super annoying, and music could’ve been louder, but I’d definitely come back here.

Yelp
This is an absolute classic find! Comfy retro booths & chairs, nice big wood & brass bar, outdoor patio, free parking lot or on street, Tuesdays jazz/blues music w/open mic , reasonably priced cocktails, friendly staff, food from local eateries or occasional empanada guy in parking lot. ATM for CASH bar. Chill atmosphere! Blue Room Bar-site for several filming projects.
google avatar

Yelp
They should call this place The Aqua Room. It's a cool ivy covered building with actual parking and some neat vintage furniture inside. But that is where it ends. The cocktails they advertise on the sign are lackluster. The music is trite. The patrons are D-list all the way. I'm not sure what ownership is aiming for, but it's either got to be a dive or a snazzy cocktail joint with actual great cocktails and a waitstaff that actually takes showers. Like it is today - it's a relic on life support. Aqua is a shade of blue, I know. But aqua seats and pleather is a little much. Makes me want to puke up my poorly made cocktail.

Yelp
Open early! Grab a quick drink before going through IKEA . We got 6 drinks for $53 (before tipping) which was a crazy deal! Ambiance is really cool too so we killed time the right way.

Yelp
This place is super cute and great during the holiday season. They decorate everything up so well and it definitely was one of my favorite spots. The service is pretty great and it is definitely worth stopping by.

Yelp
ate a habit burger here on tuesday jazz nights. vibe was immaculate i think i start to understand jazz now. beer menu but you can ask for any cocktail, my lemon drop was 12 dollars. wahoo

Yelp
I've been wanting to come to this place for years. But somehow I just never got around to it. I finally made it out this past Saturday. This place has everything I love in a bar ! Cozy booths, touch tunes "jukebox", friendly staff and great drinks. It was beautifully decorated for the holidays. Twinkly colorful lights everywhere. Whoever is in charge of decorations to do fantastic job! Note: This bar is CASH ONLY. If you don't have cash, don't worry. There is an ATM . But I advise to come with cash so that you don't have to pay the extra atm fee . You're also allowed to bring in outside food which I think is very convenient. The parking lot is small. We parked across the street at The habit and just walked over. No biggie.
google avatar

Tammy N.

Yelp
Came here on a Thursday night and it was moderately busy. I like how cozy the booths and tables were. It's a small place, but we didn't have trouble getting a table. The drinks were very affordable, and the service was great. Parking is also easy since they have a small lot. Restrooms were tiny but clean at least. Cash only. They have ATMs inside.

Yelp
This is a little secret place in Burbank called The Blue Room. Little cozy bar. You can bring in food and no drinks. The service is fabulous. John was fabulous and willing to share the story of The Blue Room. Jazz every Tuesday. This is a fun place. You must give this place a try if you visit Burbank.

Yelp
Fantastic celebration goin' on tonight: it's the keyboardist Herman Jackson's birthday. What a turnout of patrons, friends and fellow musicians. Tonight's vocals and instrumentation was at another level. You could feel the electricity vibing in the air: mesmerizing, soul stirring, introspective, jubilant. Herman and his band were a tremendous musical vortex tonight: jazz classics, bossa nova, R&B. Dayuuum it was sho' am good tonight.
google avatar

Yelp
First off it's a cash bar only with barely any visible signs stating so. Secondly, they take your order, make the drinks, and then tell you it's cash only just so you can use one of their multiple shadyATM's in the back. Yeah I'm good with not doing that. It's 2025 and if you're running a cash only bar you need to be more upfront and clear to patrons. I've been to bars all over the LA area that were dive bars. And this one was by far the shadiest I've been to. Can't recommend avoiding this place enough. Also, the decor isn't charming. It's dated and weird plus, the bathrooms were awful. Looked like the bar stole its design directly from a Miami Vice film set.

Yelp
Such a cool place, great music, perfect ambiance, decent prices, the bartender was real nice and this place is such a vibe! A total gem that I want to gatekeep forever but just can't!! It's so cool here! Went for a bday drink and we enjoyed ourselves thoroughly, it is small- but hey totally worth waiting for a booth or chair to hang in for a bit :) I'd recommend 10/10.

Yelp
CLASSIC BLUE ROOM. The perfect place to go for live music on a Tuesday. I look forward to coming here to shake up the monotonous routine of Monday-Thursday living. Whenever I am in the mood for socializing and enjoying libations on a Tuesday I always come to Blue Room. There is couch seating which is comfortable but you have to come at the right time. CASH ONLY. The bartenders are dope and the drinks are reasonably priced. If you're in the mood for a classic dive bar you can do no better. If you're in the mood for something a bit lively, you get that here as well. It's usually always filled with down to earth people.

Yelp
came here last second after work with some of my friends to celebrate my birthday went next-door for food and that place was just as good. I like the no-frills about this place and everyone seems to be pretty cool and friendly. Highly recommend this place if you were looking for something chill for a big group

Yelp
I love finding hidden, moody bars with a good liquor selection inside of industrial meat freezers.

Yelp
Step back in time to the groovy early 60's while sipping a classic cocktail. You'll hear Sinatra and Co. swingin' it on the jukebox as you relax on the puffy blue leather lounge furniture. Of course I had to get a Martini. It was great. Pretty classy & casual with just the right touch of divey-ness.
google avatar

Yelp
. No music. Dirty restrooms. Weak drink. Crappy parking. Crappy even for dive bars. Don't waste your time.

Yelp
The Blue Room Bar is an absolute gem! From the perfect drinks to the outstanding customer service, every detail was top-notch. The strong drinks were crafted to perfection. Discovering that this business has been family-owned since 1947 added a special charm. The relaxing and happy vibe, combined with comfortable seating, made my experience truly enjoyable. I can't wait to return to this fantastic establishment. Tony has provided amazing service. He made my husband and I feel welcome. Thank you

Yelp
The Blue Room is a meeting place, that is half way point between a friend and my home, so we decided to meet here. With its small interior, blue neon lights, stiff drinks, jukebox and a few TVs with sports playing ...it was a decent dive bar to grab a cocktail and girl talk. Noise level is minimal. My friend and I could actually hear each other talk here. Ever been to that kind of bar?!? Anyhow... Small, free parking lot, decent small restroom and not overly crowded... No food served here, my friend ordered food from next door and they delivered. I'd pop in here again for a drink or two. Stay safe and healthy (mind, body and soul) Yelping out there :)
google avatar

Yelp
Super low key gem vintage bar! Not too many of these type of bars left. Cash only but they have an atm, afortable prices and great service. Gave me some "Paddy's Pub" vibes from it's always sunny in Philadelphia. The aqua blue lounge cushion seatings is one of a kind. You gotta check it out, hope this place stays open for a long time to come.

Yelp
If you're looking for your new favorite dive bar in Burbank, look no further! Love the ambiance of this place, it's super retro and has been featured in many movies (look it up!). They have a TouchTunes jukebox, so you can play all of your favorite songs and darts if you get bored. There's also an outdoor patio in the back. You can bring your drink and have a smoke, too! If you're planning on stopping by, keep your credit cards at home because it's cash only!
google avatar

Ashley K.

Yelp
I was accompanying my friend and only got a water but the bartender (in the pic) made sure to come by and refill my water multiple times. He even brought us pretzels I'm so used to being ignored when I'm not buying drinks so this definitely won me over lol thank u!! The ambience was chill and you can tell everyone was minding their own business and having a good time with friends :) the crowd is a bit older but in this case I preferred that haha since I was able to catch up and have a nice conversation with my friend! It's a nice sit down spot for sure they also have an atm in the back!

Yelp
I actually came here for the first time a couple years ago and thought it was alright, but come to find out it's just a big clique (bartenders included). You won't need to be ID'd if you know the bartender or if you're friends with someone who knows the bartender. I heard the girl go "so this is her first time here" to the bartender (regarding her friend) and he set them up well. NO ID's checked, at all. I came in with my ID and my boyfriend got his wallet stolen so he only had a picture, and the bartender (who's probably even younger than us) lectured us loudly on all the fines, how he could lose his livelihood, etc. and had me in tears when I got outside. I tried bringing up the girls and he went "well I know them," and I tried explaining he didn't know BOTH of them but it was a lost cause. He mentioned to us that they just had a training about how important checking ID's was but like...you didn't check the pretty girl's ID because you know her friend? It's just a crowd of people who know each other, so truly good for them. Anyone who's an outsider, you'll absolutely feel like one when you get there if you've never been before and you're not going with a seasoned blue room regular. Boyfriend described his first time here as "this place can't decide if it wants to be a dive bar or a cocktail bar. It's just a place for douchebags." So. Just be cautious and prepared when you go is all.

Yelp
Great little spot, fair prices, service with quick, didn't have to wait at offer our drinks. Went around the holidays so it had a very cool inviting ambience. Cash only!
google avatar

Yelp
We loved it! Very cool dive bar in Burbank! Honest prices, good music, great service and fantastic vibe.

Yelp
Blue is the word for this historical bar and smoke patio from WWII in Burbank area. U must land this quiet cozy bar lounge for drinks made by Leonard, the BarTender.
google avatar

Eric H.

Yelp
Est. 1947- Come here with respect or don't come here at all I say! This is old school before the school. Definitely one of the coolest bar vibes around. It's all about the booze and the booths. No food, cash only and some of the best priced drinks in town. Tony and Glen hold down the bar with expertise in this family owned neighborhood gem. If you haven't had a drink at The Blue Room, then you haven't really experienced bar culture.
google avatar

Kikuchiyo S.

Yelp
Me and my wife were on a date a s this was a spot I found in Burbank. The area is super clean and safe. Probably the safest I've felt and I'm from LA. When you get inside the bar it's pretty chill. Very low key and music isn't blaring loud so you and your friends can atleast hear each other talking. The service was great here the bartender was super nice helped us select a drink for the night. The inside of the bar is very vintage super clean. Has those 1950's seats in teal and a few booths you and your group can relax in. Super chill bar and I was told they have live jazz nights on Tuesday night. We will be back really liked this place.
google avatar

Deirdre H.

Yelp
The entire place smelled of smoke because they leave the doors wide open. Hated it. Will not be back.

Vee D.

Yelp
Located in a nice area in Burbank, this bar is cozy and fun. Though a dive bar, it's got a pretty ambiance. The lighting is very nice, and It's definitely blue inside. The bartenders are very friendly and there's a patio on the outside that accommodates smokers, this is another reason why I will return. Plenty of free private parking available. Prices are also not too bad $7-9 for cocktails. Cons: CASH ONLY No Beer on Tap Drinks are okay quality.

Lyn R.

Yelp
Blue room looks just like the other reviews small, clean, classy. John said this place has been here since the 40s, John was great, I like sweet drinks and he delivered with these two. I loved the red bashful and the raspberry cosmopolitan was delicious. Beware they only take cash here but they have an ATM. Would come again.
google avatar

Suze Q P.

Yelp
The Blue room is a retro hip spot to enjoy a drink with friends. They let you bring food in, which is the BEST! I really enjoyed the chill atmosphere and cozy booths. I don't drink, but my friends got drinks and were happy. Of course the blue lighting is their iconic ambiance. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Live Music Tuesdays here are FIRE. Went here for birthday drinks with a group of friends for their live music Tuesday, and lots of us want to come back. Who's There: Before 8:30, it was just a handful of locals. This place definitely has that local, Cheers-type vibe. But after that, the place was pretty full from the bar to the booths and tables in between. It's a nice mix of people - younger, older, pretty casual and relaxed, everyone looked like they were having a great time. What to Get: It's a drinks-only kinda house, but you can bring your own food. On their live music Tuesdays, there's a taco stand parked right outside (or the wonderful El Tapatio is always footsteps away). Inside it's just beer (bottles, not tap) and a full bar for cocktails. Our group enjoyed our drinks (Old Fashioneds, Daiquiris, Pina Coladas). Service: You're in good hands here; even when it got super busy, their staff was still making rounds and checking up on people. Getting There: Several bus stops nearby, and a small free customers-only parking lot tucked in the back and around the corner. Miscellanywho: It's a great local dive bar, great for a quick post-work drink, some terrific live music, or a catch-up with the neighborhood.

Steve L.

Yelp
Smoking the place reeks and now that John is gone not the same! It's best around Christmas

Yelp
Amazing vibe, especially on the open mic nights. Drinks are good and service is always welcoming and fun.

Andrew S.

Yelp
Excellent service, great live music on Tuesday nights, food is often outside with a vendor, parking is a little hard, but worth it.

lina r.

Yelp
Nice and cozy place we enjoyed our time there, nice staff very welcoming, music and good drinks
google avatar

Yelp
Great environment, hole in the wall but dark and quaint.. perfect place to relax.. drinks are pretty stiff so mixologist has a heavy hand for sure, which not complaining very happy actually
google avatar

Marchaan F.

Yelp
A local hotspot. Dark grunge atmosphere. The bartender was attentive and friendly. Here's a tip, if you're looking for The Blue Room Special; ask Tony for "The Key Lime Pie Martini". It is delicious. Sweet crumbles of Graham cracker dust circles the rim. *chefs kiss

Garik B.

Yelp
too much warm atmosphere. amazing service. and food is good too. i enjoyed my evening

Rick M.

Yelp
No food but great vibe. Fun place with nice staff and so blue so blue You can bring in food from other places.

Tracey W.

Yelp
Great atmosphere, sense of community, folks respect your space, price, music.... I have selected it as a spot I recommend.

Ryan F.

Yelp
Distrustful bartenders. I can't believe they even have jobs at this moment. I left crying and the owner was sorry for my language, DICK. Wish I could leave a 0 star.

John a.

Yelp
Great staff and vibe. Seems like a local place. Hard to find in Hollywood. Definitely going back
google avatar

Maya L.

Yelp
On a scale from 1-5, 5 being Excellent & 1 being Poor... Ambiance: 5; Service: 5+(a shout out to Matt, Leonard & Johnny) Food: Though they don't prepare & serve food, there's a food truck in their parking lot that serves $3 tacos, made-on-the-spot nachos & chicken wings (have yet to try, but EVERYONE says they're the BEST) & the food truck lady delivers your food to you IN the bar, I give Blue Room a 5!!
google avatar

Aaron K.

Yelp
One of my favorite spots in LA. The Blue Room has been a staple for 60ish years. It has retained that vibe. Great blue leather booths. A TV or two for watching games. Solid staff. Parking lot. All the boxes are ticked. Tuesday night is jazz night too.
google avatar

Arlet A.

Yelp
This is such a fun little bar tucked away on San Fernando Burbank and Glendale boarder. The room is literally blue light and seats. They do have live music on certain days but I'm not sure which. I heard Tuesday is great Jazz night. The workers are also super nice and attentive. No food. It is also CASH only. Parking is street and they have a few parking spots allocated to their bar on the side.
google avatar

Janet S.

Yelp
and just like that it's 2022 and 12 years later we are squished into blue leather sipping martinis in the middle of the day. Just as we like it. Another great stop on our memory lane tour.

Yelp
Went there couple of days ago, there was no bartender waited for 10 minutes all of a sudden a short guy came out of restroom drying his hands on his pants. Had 2 beers asked for bill the guy wanted to charge me triple (6 beers) I believe he was high on drugs, watch for shorty he is a crook. Btw saw 2 under age girls seating on the corner having drinks. Will never go back there ever.
