I dined Dec 14th, 2024, with family and friends. We were a group of six. I took my time before writing this review since, from my perspective, I truly disliked the experience.
We entered the hotel through a strangely creepy and narrow hallway and were greeted on the lobby by beautifully lit Christmas decorations. It raised my expectations that we were in for a great dining experience. That was quickly dashed as soon as we were seated.
We were seated by a drafty door leading to the outdoor dining patio. The cold air blowing on the back of my neck created a lot of physical discomfort and a stiff neck. But even worse was the seating. Three of our guests sat on the cushioned booth. The rest on incredibly uncomfortable hard leather seats with rough edges. The leather seats were actually a step below wooden benches because of the raised rough edges. And it was made worse, looking around the restaurant, realizing ALL THE OTHER CHAIRS were obviously large and comfortably cushioned. I got the feeling they ran out of comfortable chairs and got ours from the bar.
Could it get worse? Yes, it could. Our waiter was obviously sick, coughing loudly on his hands, never washing his hands, and tending to our table. I avoided allowing him to speak directly into my face. It became a little hard for me to look away due to getting a really stiff neck from the cold air blowing on my back from the door leading outside.
I read the menu. At first I thought the pages were blank. I had to use my phone flashlight to realize the print was very faint and hard to read and I have good eyesight. I just gave up trying to read it and ordered the Seared Halibut.
Back to the menu, at first I thought I just couldn't see the decimal points. $28 for a salad?? $72 for the halibut. There were no decimal points. When I ordered I thought It better be really special and, sadly, it was no better than similar items at other highly rated restaurants for half the cost.
We finished our entrees and decided to order dessert. We waited and waited. The service had disappeared. After over 20 minutes of waiting, a server came over and asked if he wanted dessert. By then we had our jackets on and were ready to leave, so we passed on desserts.
My Seared Halibut was good but not special enough to warrant the cost. I'm sure the high costs were due to the reputation of the location. But the value was just not there.
I've paid more for dining at other restaurants. The high prices were not the enjoyment killer for me. It was the overall discomfort, the sick waiter, and the feeling the entire service staff were going through the motions while not even trying to fake smiling. I'm just writing this off to bad experience and probably would never return there.
