The Boiling Crab

Be prepared for plenty of sauce and some messy eating as you enjoy the spicy delicious seafood right onto your covered tabletop. Bibs are offered and highly recommended. Be had several pounds of juicy sweet and tender snow 🦀 crabs. Deep fried scallops, fried oysters, and a pound and half of shrimp 🍤. The quality of the ingredients are quite good. Oysters, shrimp, and scallops are all very good size. The Lime wedges can squeezed and mixed onto the dry spices and offers a great acidity and balance to the seafood. Expect a la carte for many items such a separate order for corn, potatoes, eggs, and sausages which is what we did to accompany the meal. You have a choice of spice level and we order mild with the whole sha bang. It was still plenty of heat for mild. Was all yummy and pricey for a party of 4.

Wonderful first time experience! Only a twenty minute wait, easy and accessible parking. We got clams, shrimp, snow crab, blue crab, and oysters. Along with steamed rice and gumbo rice. Everything was great except for the blue crab which had some brown meat in the legs that didn’t smell too good. Great staff checked in and offered extra plastic gloves. While my friends went bare handed these were a must have for me and I really appreciated extra! Easy bring home left overs, given extra plastic bags and the boiling crab bag. We will be coming back! My party of 11 came here for my wife’s birthday. We went right when they opened and there was a small line waiting to get in. We were told to wait five minutes while they gathered tables together. One person got clams with garlic butter, snow crab with medium heat, snow crab garlic butter, two blue crab (one hot/one garlic butter), (5)chicken tenders , Gumbo w/ side of rice, and one king crab mild. When being served the gumbo, the waiter spilled some on one person in our party. While he was ok he was more upset with the lack of rice it came with. He asked about it and had to order an extra side of rice. As for the rest of the food it was great and amazing flavors. One thing we noticed was the heat level from mild to hot was the same for reason. We actually tried a little from everyone’s bag to test it out and sure enough it was all the same heat level. Maybe someone got confused when doing the sauces. Overall we would come back and hopefully turn those chicken tender orders into seafood orders next time! We kept telling the kids they don’t know what they’re missing.

Food's good, got pound of shrimp with whole shibang, I would say they put a lot of garlic pieces in there, so if you're not a fan then def get different seasonings or something. It kinda overpowers it at times. Those cajun fries... best fries I've ever had honestly, theyre actually crispy and taste sooo good, If i lived close id come here just for those fries honestly. Service was good, shrimp just took a long time to come out. Bathrooms are usually clean as well.

If you're okay with waiting then its worth it. Everytime I have the shrimp its always good. Whole Sha-bang medium is the way to go. Fyi you have to arrive early to reserve. Call for wait times.

Love going here. I noticed when it's nice, not that many people, food is on point. I went on a busy day last night and noticed sauce and food are a little plain, and service seems confused and rushed. I do recommend this place regardless because their food is still great. Their service is still welcoming, and I'll always go back it's something about the sauce and quality of food that I can't stop going.

This is Sunday, my friends came in town for visit and want to try the famous boiling crab. So we stop by night time almost 6, waited about one and half hours for our table which is fine Sunday night always busy. Our server was really nice we got party of five, 4 adults and 1 one year old. We ordered all flavors shrimp total 4lbs, 2lb mussels, 1 lb clam, 4 corns and 1 order sausage and some appetizers. Long story short, 1st we got mussels and clams it’s was great only clams got so many empty shells. And then we start to get our bags shrimp, at first I tried the shrimp it tasted funny I thought is that they used cheap shrimp it’s not fresh, and with the heavy sauce can’t really tell what’s wrong with it, then I ate one that’s cooked outside and raw inside, I immediately notified our server she took that one bag back said she will get us a new bag while we work on other bags. At this point I’m just really upset, my wife is pregnant and I got one year old might have eaten not fully cooked seafood. The same time we working on other bags and I noticed every bags got some shrimps that’s not fully cooked, I called server again to notify manager. While we wait for the manager we got our new bag 1lb shrimp, this time it’s cooked, but over cooked. I’m not sure they reused the one they bought it back to cook again or what, the shrimp it’s like chewy gum way over cooked. The manager showed up did not even apologize, she just looked at table even don’t care I’m trying to show her uncooked shrimp, she said “oh, looks like you guys finished most of it like half way, so we can’t do anything at this point, I’ll give you 10% off 1 item.” You heard that right, “ONE ITEM” which is 1lb shrimp $1.6. I told her it’s not about the money, my wife is pregnant and I got one year old toddler can’t eat raw seafood they might get sick, not sure how she passed her health safety license. Of course each person grab one shrimp from the 1lb bag its like almost half way through. She just gave a nasty look, it’s like not the first time it happened she just doesn’t care. At this point I got no mood even to eat anymore also she didn’t even offer to recook my food, just ask for check be done the night. I got my bill, she even trying to charge me additional lb shrimp they took back and recooked, now shows I got billed 5lbs shrimp total. If I didn’t pay attention to my check she just charge whatever she wants. This is health issues to serve raw seafood to anyone!!!! The lady manager name is Sarina Chanthanarm, not sure it’s really her name or not, the server just gave me the business card said this is the manager, I hope she go retake her health safety test to learn how important not to serve customer uncooked food.

Food is good but the long wait almost doesn't want to come. Could have better services. Servers look young, have attitude not really attentive. They just stand around hanging out.

Cool looking restaurant, almost looks like you're in one of those seafood places by the ocean. Service was amazing, the staff were friendly and nice. Shrimp were good, cooked perfectly but with having the whole shabang it felt like there was not a lot of flavor. So like 3.5/5. Fries were amazing. I would not get the calamari again thou, too much panco on it and it was absolutely tasteless and too oily.

Its my daughter's 23rd birthday and we are celebrating it here ... everything was good until they deliver our first order of fries and calamari . No sauce. We ordered it earlier until we asked again and they finally gave it almost halfway of our appetizer .. i asked Sarina if we can order half a link of sausage because its too much and she said yes . Now they messed up the order for my daughter instead of bringing 1.5lbs , they gave a half a Pound shrimp which we alerted Sarina . She said will just order the missing 1lb . We are all done with our food but the 1lb wasnt coming . 30 mins had passed we asked again . Then she just i believed put in the order . Here comes the bill . They charge 2 lbs for my daughter order . And charge sausage full links. I questioned our bill coz its wrong . So the manager came but instead she was sarcastic and she was insisting that they gave 2 lbs instead of 1.5lbs based on their kitchen records . She even told me have been here before i said multiple times . We thought we will have a good dinner but instead ruin my daughter's birthday . I hope the corporate will able to read my review . Needed more training for your staff on how to deal with loyal customers ...

Had a party of six, so I was going to tip at minimum 18% of the bill but we were celebrating a birthday so I was personally planning something closer to 25-30% tip for a large party. The wait to get a table wasn't too horrible. However, the wait to get any service or food was absurd. It took 20 minutes for any service to be present and almost 45 minutes for any food to show up at our table. We ordered King Crab, two full Dungeness crabs, shrimp, mussels, 2 dozen raw oysters. Food was decent, the oysters tasted fresh. Waiters and waitresses are snooty and just stand around staring at customers from behind the counter. They will laugh at you if you try to get their attention because they're "not your waiter". Look, if I could find or have seen my waitress anytime in the last 15 minutes, I wouldn't be bothering you! Gentleman with one arm sleeve tattoo and too much hair gel goes around judging his tables and anyone that's outside of his section asking for help. He will just pretend to flip open his notepad and stare down at it when he wants to avoid dealing with a customer. Very weird behavior. Left leaving a 10% tip because of horrible service. Boiling Crab Management, please understand that some of us want to be generous with our tips to help with costs but not when you have nasty, rude, inattentive staff that feels like a slap in the face during each unpleasant interaction.

Boiling crab has always been one of my go to Cajun spots over the years. Flavor is on point here with the other locations in California. Shabang is a must! However, it can always be hit or miss with the food/service. During my most recent visit, my shrimp was slightly over cooked and they seemed to skimp a bit with the sauce (may be best for my waistline). Sometimes the wait for the food can be a LONG time. Expect to wait 30 mins for your food after ordering. We were annoyed that they gave us our rice 10 mins before our seafood came, wished they just scooped it after. Love boiling crab still but wish they would be a bit more consistent.

We checked in on Yelp and came here on a Friday when it opened so we didn't wait long. The best time to go! Food came out quick. Shrimp easy to peel meaning it's cooked well and not rubbery or mushy. The corn is so flavorful and juicy from soaking in all the whole shabang sauce. The Cajun fries is a must. Hot and crispy. I like how they give salt, pepper and lime. When I'm done with my meal, I'll rub the lime all over my hands before washing my hands trying to get the garlicky smell off. Lol

I love this place! Every single time I'm in the Sacramento area, I stop by Boiling Crab. I've been to many imitations but nothing compares to this place! The food is unmatched. No where have I gone where the sauce is a fraction as good as this place. Do yourself a favor and get the Whole Shebang with your protein of choice. I personally think the shrimp you get the most bang for your buck. I always get mild because it is surprisingly pretty spicy. You can add corn, sausage and potatoes to your meal if you like. I usually get a side of rice. Man, just thinking about this meal is making my mouth water lol. Soooo good! The servers are always a joy and bring the food very quick like 10-15 mins quick! The restaurant is decked out in fishing gear and awesome graffiti. Only downfall is that parking can be a pain. It's a small parking lot so space can be tight. I recommend coming as soon as they open. This place tends to get busy and there's less crowds earlier in the day.

I. Love. The. Boiling. Crab. The wait can be long, yes. The secret is to go right when they open, duh. Otherwise prepare to wait 45 mins-1 hour at any given time of the day. Another tip is to join the virtual queue so you're not waiting in person for so long. Just know that your whole party has to be physically present in order for you to be seated. Don't like waiting? Go somewhere else. Jk. Order to go! I prefer this location over the other Sacramento location, they're a lot more consistent with their food & their service. This particular location doesn't provide gloves, stop crying about it & bring your own. They do automatically give you salt, pepper, & limes though! My go-to is always 1 lb. of shrimp whole shebang mild, a basket of cajun fries, a basket of fried oysters. Yes-that's-all-for-me-order-your-own-stuff! Am I obsessed with Boiling Crab? I might be. Is it overhyped? That's up to you! Because. To each their own. But every time I have some kind of shrimp boil, I can't help but compare it to Boiling Crab. So far, nothing compares.

I enjoyed my time here with the friendly service and delicious food. I always get the whole shabang shrimp combo and I added sausages this time. It's super flavorful and not too salty. The side of sweet potato fries was a good palette cleanser as well. I wish they still have out gloves as they did before the pandemic, but im glad aprons are still provided. Very clean and spacious restaurant which gives this place a plus!

My boyfriend and I tend to come out here at least once a month because it is always worth the drive. The service is always amazing, the food never fails us, and the vibes of this place is always so energetic. I do recommend to try and get on their waitlist as soon as you can because they do get super booked, but it's always worth the wait!!!

I went to this establishment after a not so great experience at another restaurant earlier in the day. The food was good, it was a little salty but what can you expect from fried food. Our server, Daniel I believe was so knowledgeable and impressive. He made the time at the restaurant an enjoyable one. I liked the drink, it was a simple margarita. They do not have many alcoholic beverages if you are looking for a night out with drinks. Our table was clean, there is plenty of space, and the location was clean. I would return and would like to try other options.

Food are superior. Way goos ,, we ordered shrimp, crawfish and a blue crabs.. with sausage .. the service is okay .. his just a little slow just because it was very busy .. one hour wait to get a table but it's all worthy.. the ambulate okay .. it's like a regular bar!! Little noisy but it's double.. I will recommend this place but. Make sure you check what tie They open ... good food ! Try it!!

Food is great it always delivers the only inconsistency can be the sauce for their boil sometimes really oily but I would imagine that's just normal outliers of the food. The service could be something to improve on it usually takes a minute to get what you asked for but it's also reasonable for how busy it can get.

My family loves to go here. They have the Best spices. good ambience but they can upgrade on that though and I like their service !

The food was amazing, we had fried oysters Cajun fries and the shabang bag with shrimp 2 lbs 1 pound is enough per person. The fried oysters weren't our liking. We felt like the batter could have been flavored differently.

I never really thought about eating at a place like this, but boy was I missing out! The catfish is absolutely delicious with the lemon pepper fries. I had a boiled egg and corn all mixed up with THE WHOLE SHA-BANG and a side of rice. This combo is perfect for my taste and I added in a pound of the king crab legs dipped in the garlic butter for good measure. I know one thing is for sure.... I'll definitely be coming back

The staff is great but it's just so crowed with long waits which is why I hardly dine in. Thankful for take out options!

Came after work not so long ago. And we got here about 8? Then close about 10. So when we got seated it was like almsot closing time. Which I felt super bad because I hate being that customer that comes in around closing but it was 8! And it was packed. But they still seated us. Our server nancy was super nice and attentive. We ordered and out food for here. Not so long after she told us the kitchen was closing soon she apologize because we just got our foods. Everything was yummy! It only thing was since we came late they were out of Dungeness crab clusters. And they were out of rice. So yeah. But everything else was amazing. Well besides the guy that was taking party size. He looks like he hates his job.

It's in down town Sacramento, parking garage parking only, homeless everywhere panhandling, food was not great, dinner is served in plastic bags, no wine beer only, and it's in one large room and the noise is exstream, hard to have a conversation with people at your table.

Mandatory stop whenever we visit Sacramento! We always order a lb of shrimp, crab and if we're really hungry some mussels. We like to add sausage, corn and potatoes. WHOLESHABANG MILD for us and no spice for our little. The sauce on the crabber fries is tooooo good and the micheladas are a must! The service is always great and since they've expanded the restaurant, the wait time is so much shorter! You can also check in through yelp!

I just want to say that this restaurant lost a party of 12 that's big bucks not to mention gratitude tip. We were looking to celebrate my father in law's birthday after mass in Sacramento and I called to see what the wait time would be . Nancy the person that answer the phone immediately turn me down once I told her that I had a party of 12 . She said that the wait time was 1 hour and she couldn't add me to the waitlist since I was a large party! I had to go in person add myself then wait an hour from that point on ! Then she emphasized how after being sat it would be an additional 1 hour to eat because of my large party ! So discrimination against my large party ! Bottom line if you plan to celebrate with a large party this is not your place !

Ordered two of their salted pepper fried crab. This is similar to their shrimp and asparagus salt/pepper dish. So umami-filled. This dish, with some hot steam rice is a major treat. Gotta get it while we can, and glad we did!

My father went in today around 3:40 to grab a togo order. We live near el dorado hills in Folsom nearly 45-50 mins away. We sent management a photo of the hair that was tangled into one of the shrimp in the bag. We ordered two 2lb bags of shrimp and had just gotten 1/4 of the way through the first one. Kevin the "manager" wanted a picture so we sent one. Then informed us we needed to bring the food back, ridiculous policy when I worked in the food industry we never once asked a guest to bring food back. What disappointed me the most was the lack of emotion from Kevin and tone he carried was disrespectful bickering with my father on the phone. Who in their right mind? Anyways as long time patrons this location has gotten worse. The food is starting to match the nasty a** attitudes. Kevin needs some basic human communication skills training.

There is no gloves for your food. So bring your own gloves if you want to keep your finger clean. Cuz them hands smelled like fish the whole night and the next day. . We had order the 2 bags of 1 Lb shrimp with added corn on the Cobb and potatoes. We ordered the everything in the sauce with medium heat. It was spicy as you eat more of it. It was so good tho. The flavor of the sauce is my favorite from all the same style as boiling crab restaurants. Boiling crab has the most flavor and heat in their sauces when you crave spicy. The shrimp on the other hand wasn't the best quality. The shrimp is kinda cheap and doesn't have that tenderness to it. The shrimp is more on the soft side like mushy. It wasn't my favorite, I think boiling crab can use better quality shrimps. . Fried Chicken wings dry with bone in- the chicken was fried to perfection. The flavor was good too. We thought it was good. . Rice - we ordered 3 bowls and shared with friends. Typical white rice, which went well with the sauces. . Soft shell crab - this was my favorite appetizer. The batter wasn't too thick. The crab was juicy and moist. We loved it alot. It was flavorful too without dipping sauces. . Overall we had a friendly server who got us what we need. The style of eating food on the table made it fun and messy. If you don't like eating with hands much bring your own real utensils and bowls, because I just don't like using the cheap plastic flimsy utensils and bowls. It wasn't our first time, so we know what we need to order, our server was amazing, (I think her name is Milena) took our order immediately, brought our drinks and when our food arrived she came back to make sure everything was good, and kept coming to check on us, we didn't need to ask for refills, the food is always good, and don't expect a quite place it's a family friendly restaurant! Overall we had a great experience.

Meredith was amazing in helping us join the waitlist! The staff were incredible and friendly. The food was delicious! Loved the writing on the designated areas it was full but it certainly did not feel cramped! Will be back again! Only complaint was the parking is annoying but that's not their fault!

Attempted to have boiling crab for my daughters 16th bday. Over a two hour wait time. Staff is slow to service. I understand that they do not take reservations. As in call in for a specific time. What I do not understand is why they will not let you call in to be put in line. If i am calling to have my name added to the waitlist I'm waiting like everyone else I just got in line a little faster. I live out of town so I have to drive 40 minutes to get there then I have to wait over two hours for dinner. That's a little much. We decided to skip the boiling crab and headed to firehouse crawfish instead. It was definitely a better choice. Menu is better, more options, quicker service and seated our 9 with no wait. We sat, ate, chatted and paid before I got the text saying my table was ready at the boiling crab. Would visit the boiling crab again if wait times improved some.

Been going to this place for years but recently the quality of food has gone down. The shrimp tonight was terrible and mushy so think goodness I did not get a lot of shrimp. Probably won't go back for a while.

Food was okay. Ordered a 1lb of mussels for roughly $14. I didnt mind the price until my order came. The mussels come with both sides of the shell so it weighs more, meaning you get less mussels. Not to mention, the mussels were super tiny. Bottom line: DONT ORDER THEIR MUSSELS

This place gets super crowded. We waited 2 hours to be seated on a weekday night. But the food was very good. Love the sauces. The only thing that was off was that night was the snow crab. It was a very fishy. But the rest of the food was very good. It's always fun eating here, and getting messy with the family.

Love this place , I love being able to add waitlist on Yelp since it's usually always full. The con side would be that once you receive a message that your table is ready you're still having to wait an extra 5-10 minutes to be seated .

The food here is SOOO GOOD. You definitely pay the price for what you get, but the flavors and portions are great. We love bringing our family for special occasions!

My favorite thing in the menu are the soft shell crabs. They're so good and really flavorful. In terms of the boil, it's just okay. We chose the whole sha-bang but it was really bland. The soft shell crabs however made the visit to this restaurant worth it.

Drove from Roseville to south sac these are the wings I received for my son. My pound of shrimp was fine. I ordered a shrimp basket with lemon pepper fries and that was not received. I don't have time or patience tonight to get this resolved!

I love our Boiling Crab Live Crawfish! The service was amazing. The crabber fries are very delicious especially the LP fries it came with. Our server Alex was really nice and kept checking up on us when food was backed up for a while! really good service and will be coming back again!

I've been wanting to try The Boiling Crab for the longest time. I finally came here on 8/10/21 during dinner around 8 PM with my friend. As we arrived, the wait time was only 30 minutes. It wasn't too long at all. I decided to order the bowl of Gumbo w/ rice & a pound of shrimp with three corns and a total of six potatoes. I did the "The Whole Sha-Bang!" sauce with Medium as the spicy level. Pros: *The sauce was flavorful, especially when the lime was squeezed into the bag *Friendly, hospitable service from team members *The gumbo was delicious Cons: *The majority of the shrimp in my boil was mushy, inedible, and dissatisfying. Some were even hard to peel off. *I asked the server for headless shrimp and was told between the lines, "No. Our shrimp comes with the head only. We can't do that." I'm giving this restaurant two stars because they need to fix how they cook the shrimp. After all, it seems like an ongoing issue from other reviews. I was disappointed for spending $35 on food I couldn't enjoy all the way. I have mixed feelings if I would return.
