Texas Seafood Restaurant Boiling Crab Is Opening in Austin | Eater Austin

"A Texas-based seafood chain has opened its first Austin outpost in the Linc at 6406 North I‑35, Suite 2375 (opened Feb. 19). The menu leans Louisiana-Cajun: diners pick seafood like Dungeness crab, blue crab, lobster, and clams to be steamed or boiled, then dress them with sauces and spice levels (including lemon-pepper). There are also fried baskets (catfish, oysters), chicken tenders, fries, wings, gumbo, and a beverage lineup of sodas, teas, beers, margaritas, and micheladas. Guests are encouraged to wear a bib because the experience is messy. Founded in 2004 by Sinh Nguyen and Dada Ngo in Seadrift, the group has since expanded across the U.S. and internationally, with other Texas locations in Dallas and Plano. Austin hours are Monday–Friday 3–10 p.m. and Saturday–Sunday noon–10 p.m." - Nadia Chaudhury

This restaurant is a great option for enjoying seafood with family or friends. It has a wide variety of menu choices and plenty of tables. The service was what I expected, and I really liked the food, especially the catfish. It comes with French fries, and you can choose between Cajun or lemon pepper seasoning. I went with the lemon pepper, and it was delicious—freshly prepared, hot, crispy, and not greasy at all. The only downside is that parking is on the street, so finding an available spot can be a bit tricky. It has just one unisex bathroom, which is spacious and hygienic. The prices seem fair to me for the portion size and food quality.

My boyfriend picked up lunch for us at this location. He got the snow crab leg boil with corn, potatoes and sausage, I got the Sha Bang Bang Shrimp(comes with rice) & an order of their Cajun fries. Both orders were PHENOMENAL, and according to my boyfriend the staff was very helpful and friendly. We definitely will be coming back here. My food is pictured, shrimps were giant and extremely flavorful. The rice was high quality and you could tell they rinsed it and seasoned it with care. The fries were SO tasty and crispy. Cannot say enough about how good this food was.

Went Sunday to hopefully enjoy some snow crab legs and the NFL game. It was empty to my surprise. I was the first person in there at 1pm. The food was cooked very good, but the service was exceptional. From the manager to my server. All I ask that I get a little more crabs legs for that price. 😬 Ended up paying $60 bucks for a LB of snow crab legs, a scallop basket, 2 corn ear buds, and a Modelo, and a half and half drink.

When we first walked in we were greeted with a list of all the things they don't have available. Paper was put on our table. I didn't realize we were not going to have plates to eat off of. I've been to boil places before and when I get a boil everything comes with it. Not here. Everything is a la carte. I debated leaving at this point. .... But my bf made an effort to take me for my birthday. By the time I ordered everything that was close to what I wanted my food alone was over $75 . The food did not all come out at the same time. The shrimp were mushy. And also cost more if you want the heads off. The crab legs were so small, the shell cracker couldn't crack them. The plastic deveiner bent right in half the minute I tried to use it. The crabber fries were probably the only thing that was good. My bf got the fried catfish. Dry very very dry. The music was very loud and the same playlist went thru four times... . No toilet paper in the restroom. Way too casual to be this overpriced. Wasn't thrilled with the vibe. Will not return.

Amazing renovations, spacious and super clean. Food was outstanding, pricey, but worth it. Our server Jamiya(hope that's correct), was knowledgeable, helpful and honest. I absolutely loved the atmosphere, great spots for meetups and small parties. I hope it gets some much needed traction. Will definitely be back❤️

Dining at The Boiling Crab was a great experience from start to finish. Our server Jaymia was fantastic. She was very knowledgeable about the entire menu. Making my wife feel at ease and providing creative suggestions. When she ordered her boil, Jaymia told us the story of how the boil was made. It added a layer of appreciation to an already delicious boil. We can't recommend this place enough. We’ll be back!!!

Google
This restaurant was delicious!! I have tried multiple seafood boil restaurants and this one beats them all!! Their seasoning is not salty at all just very flavorful and juicy. Their food is more pricey but because they have quality seafood and it’s very worth their price!! The snowcrabs, crawfish and mussels were big!!! And the staff was sooo welcoming and sweet!! I will definitely be coming back!!

Traveling on I-95 we took a break at the Children's Museum of Richmond with one of our grandchildren. Two hours later, we're all hungry and very happy to find The Boiling Crab just TWO blocks away. Excellent food, great service, and a nice atmosphere in one of Richmond's many older and renewed buildings. Stop and enjoy! We plan to return on one of our frequent I-95 RDU/DC/ColumbiaMD trips!

Yelp
Went here Monday with my husband and had a GREAT experience! The restaurant is clean with good music, we were sat promptly and our sever Deshaye made great suggestions in terms of how much food to get, and what sauces and seasons to get! The crabs and shrimp tasted fresh, and the flavors were fantastic, and a reasonable price for the quantity, especially compared to other places I've been. Will definitely be back for more!

Yelp
Stopped by The Boiling Crab in Richmond last week and had one of the best dining experiences in a long time! I've been to several seafood boil spots, but this one really stands out, especially because of our server, Cole. From the moment we sat down, Cole was phenomenal. He was super friendly, attentive, and really knew the menu inside and out. We had a few questions about the different spice levels and the "Whole Sha-Bang" sauce, and he took the time to walk us through all our options and made some excellent recommendations. The food was fantastic--fresh, flavorful, and exactly what we were craving. We got a mix of shrimp and snow crab legs with the recommended sauce, and every bite was delicious. But honestly, Cole's amazing service made the meal even better. He checked on us multiple times, made sure we had plenty of napkins and gloves (which you definitely need!), and generally made us feel incredibly welcome and well taken care of. The nautical decor is cool and the vibe is fun and casual, perfect for digging into a messy, tasty meal. 10/10 experience, and we will definitely be back. If you visit, ask for Cole!

Yelp
I would recommend the boiling crab, but the flavor was okay I've definitely had better when it comes to seafood boils. The service was amazing and she was very detail oriented and told us about all the deals and went through the menu with us. The fries you will get for free once you complete the check-in on yelp. Overall, I give it a 4/5.

Yelp
Had a wonderful dinner here at the Boiling Crab. Cara our waitress was a sweetheart and took her time explaining all our different options. She was very enthusiastic and a joy to talk to. The quality of the seafood was also good, and the Shabang sauce was my favorite. Tyler the manager was very professional and super kind. He made sure to introduce himself and made sure our experience was amazing! Great hospitality, great food, what could go wrong?

Yelp
The service was really nice. The manager answered all of our questions and gave wonderful recommendations since it was my first time there. The food, though, was mid. I wish the corn, potatoes, and sausage were included (instead of extra price) since other seafood boil restaurants that I've been to usually include it. Overall, it was seasoned alright and the shrimp was cooked at the right texture too. I did get takeout and the bibs & gloves were not in my takeout bag, but if I go next time, I will ask for it.

Yelp
I was looking forward to trying out this place, but was sorely disappointed. My daughter and I came here for lunch today while in the Richmond area. The service was fine, but seafood was average at best. We got a pound of mussels and a pound of king crab legs with one ear of corn, 3 eggs, sausage link and potatoes. The whole shebang seasoning is just too salty. We also got a softshell crab plate with fries. I know it's not in season, but the softshell crabs were just tiny for what they're charging. The king crab was market price, about $70/lb. I think we got 3-4 legs. Definitely not worth it. Total cost for this lunch, including tip was $164. Next time, I'm just going to do it myself. You can get two pounds of king crab legs at Sam's club or Costco for $34.

Yelp
Ordered delivery for boiled shrimp with different seasoning packets (sorry I don't remember which ones) and found it surprisingly flavorful. Would love to go back and get a proper boil.

Yelp
Food & service was great! Ambiance & location was not the best. They have a lot of great specials for students which we thought was nice.

Yelp
Small and quick service has a bunch of different options and was reasonably priced! I would definitely return for another visit

Yelp
The closet I'm going to get in Rva that tastes like home in BR, Louisiana. The service is always wonderful & great! Never no issues when placing an order or dining in.

Yelp
Can't believe Boiling Crab is finally in Richmond!! I've been to many Boiling Crabs throughout southern California, and after having my fair share of seafood boils here in VA, I was so excited try out this newly opened location! As usual I got the shrimp and snow crab legs with the whole shabang sauce, mild spice. The sauce tasted pretty familiar: tasty cajun flavors with abundant garlic pieces and a slightly tangy citrus flavors! The snow crab legs were pretty juicy but the shrimp was a little overcooked in my opinion. I think their menu also features some local things that Californian Boiling Crabs don't have, such as the catfish. The catfish was fried nicely and crispy with a nice light batter. Appreciated how generous they were with 4 thick pieces of catfish plus the cajun fries! The cajun spices on the fries were pretty spot on. I know it just opened so it was a little rough around the edges but it still hits the spot! The servers were really nice and friendly but maybe a little new on the job. The owner/manager also stopped by to check in on us. Love how the naval/seafood decor was similar to that of other Boiling Crabs and the bathroom rooms were clean. Overall this place really brought back memories and the food was tasty!!!

Yelp
Amazing huge crab legs! Fried calamari, fried catfish and shrimp so fresh and delicious! Flavors on point . I wished the potatoes and corn were included in the crab order, but overall Service was amazing, restaurant is very clean and neat!

Yelp
First time at boiling crab. Def wasn't busy but not sure it was because the weather wasn't good. Customer service was nice. Portion of food was ok. I feel like it should have been more for what you pay. But the seasoning is really good.

Jasmine C.

Yelp
Clean environment, good customer service, I like the build-your-own system for the seafood boils

Xavier M.

Yelp
Not a bad place to eat. Our server was really nice. I really liked the seasoned fries and calamari.

Yelp
The service was absolutely phenomenal. Our server made fantastic recommendations. Our meals were delicious - he ordered the fish and I ordered crab dip. We both had fries with different flavors. Highly recommend. Clean bathrooms! The manager checked on us as well. We will be back.

Yelp
One of the worst and strangest dining experiences I've had in Richmond. My party of 6 were the only people at the restaurant at 6pm on a Friday night and now we know why. We all got our food at different times. At least 10 minutes past between the first and last person receiving entrees. Which was wild because 3 of us got the same fried soft shell crab basket and literally no one else was there. The food wasn't ~bad~ but it was definitely all from a freezer and could have been made better at home. My friend got the chicken tender basket and asked if the tenders could be tossed in the dry lemon pepper seasoning and the "chef" said no and they sent out a ramekin of seasoning ??? The waitress came over mid meal and told us that she could only separate our bill into 4 different checks. We told her that doesn't work for us and we are all paying separately then magically it wasn't "restaurant policy" anymore. Another worker checked us all out and we didn't see our waitress again?? Such a bizarre experience and none of us will return.

Malesha W.

Yelp
The food was tasty! The mussels and the sauce is AMAZING! So much flavor. They even gave us the wings for free as part of a promo they had going on that day. Service was 10/10. Everyone in the restaurant checked on us multiple times and made sure everything tasted good.

Kate E.

Yelp
Finally a seafood boil in Richmond that actually has real flavor and seasoning that you can't replicate at home and fresh. Hubby and I gave up after trying all these other from bad (left our food) to merely mediocre and finally gave up. We started making all of our seafood at home since. We know of Boiling Crab back in CA home of some the finest food and where there was always a minimum of 1 1/2 wait. We were ecstatic to find TBC here in VA. We came back at least 5 times since they've been opened. Their lemon pepper fries and fried shrimp baskets are just addictive. Our go to are the snow crabs and clams with potato, corn, and sausage the whole shabang medium I can forgo customer service for good food but customer service here go above and beyond.

Yelp
The Juicy Crab this is NOT! Even tho they may think so. I basically tore up 1/2 of shrimp and had to clean before I ate them. I got rice to pour the sauce on but the sauce was actually just garlic chucks and thick. I basically threw away. My order was the first of the day maybe it was leftover from the night before. My boyfriend even talked with owner who swore it was better than most in the area. It's in a great location and great atmosphere so it got 2 stars.

Jessica K.

Yelp
Customer service is beyond amazing. Dee was super helpful and well informed. Also very attentive. Food was good but unlike sauce and toss you have to order everything Al a cart. Which can get really pricey. It is a bit too much and over whelming when ordering. Sauce and toss seasoning is more better but I love how boiling crab gives you a lot of sauce to dip your seafood in. I recommend their steamed rice and calamari to add. Corn is WAY better than other places not over cooked.

Yelp
Came in and tried the Shabang-bang shrimp appetizer medium spice with garlic, Cajun and lemon pepper seasoning! After that got snow crab with potatoes and sausage! The service was welcoming and I was checked on throughout my meal. Aiden and Wen are awesome! Definitely will be back!

Jadelyn S.

Yelp
Food made my hubbys stomach go inside out when we got home. Tried to sleep with the food on his stomach and woke up in the middle of the night puking his ass off. Server was amazing, loved her, but the food was god awful. We had the fried oysters and jumbo......don't do it people I tell you don't do it. (It's called boiling crab because it literally makes your stomach boil)

Yolanda J.

Yelp
Husband took me on an "all things new birthday extravaganza" and I love a crab boil! This place was the dinner restaurant of choice. No good, everything was sold in a separate bag and came out sporadically. The seasoning was very salty and there were HUGE garlic chunks throughout the bags. The customer service however was very good, informative, attentive. We were the only people in the place for a Friday night. The shrimp had the heads on and normally that's how they are served but they cut them off because it was my birthday. I couldn't imagine them coming with eyes on them looking at me! lol Everything we ordered was over the top salty. Unfortunately, we won't be back again.

Loren T.

Yelp
Great seafood. The shrimp is so delicious. The host and servers are super friendly. The restaurant mood and feeling is very welcoming.

Peyton S.

Yelp
Two stars for the service but the food is not worth it. Better boils around for less money and won't give you the heartburn of a lifetime. They do serve you your salt and pepper in a ramekin, if that's your thing.
