This place has a relaxed atmosphere and pleasant staff. We were there for lunch and were told to save room for dessert! There were a lot of good-looking options on the menu. I was looking for a vegetarian option and was happy to see some options for substitutions on their sandwiches as well as salads. I decided on a pimento cheese black bean burger with chips and a BIG piece of chocolate chip banana cake for dessert. The black bean burger had wonderful flavor and was cooked just right. I love pimento cheese and would have liked a little more on my burger, but was happy with my selection. The chips were just standard kettle chips. Others in my party said the pasta salad was really good. We got the full piece of cake to share and it was definitely plenty to share! It was a great dessert choice and is highly recommended! Overall, this was a fun place to check out if in Augusta!

We stopped there for lunch and had a very pleasant meal. The live music was cool, and our server was very dedicated and friendly. The large beer selection was nice, and the Cuban sandwich was phenomenal! Good cakes as well!

We tried the Lumberg Club and the chicken and waffles here! The club was pretty good, but the chicken and waffles were better. I really enjoyed them! The waffles were made of cornbread and served with raspberry butter. I also took the lemon delight cake home, and it was a great dessert for later. The only negative part of my experience was the wait. Despite the restaurant not being very busy, after I ordered, I had to wait around 25-30 minutes for my food.

Google
We were passing through Augusta on our way to Columbia, SC and stopped to eat at the Boll Weevil Cafe. The service and our food was wonderful! The dessert menu looked amazing , but we were too full from our lunch to order. We will definitely have to visit again to try dessert!

I have been a loyal customer for 11 years. However today will be my last time supporting them. I ordered my meal through uber eats. Shortly after receiving a notification that my order was being prepared, I received a notification that that restaurant made a price adjustment. To my surprise they had increased my price by $5. I didn’t make any changes to my order, and I did not provide any special instructions. I immediately called the restaurant. I spoke with a man who told me that because I had chosen the chef salad for my soup and salad combo there was an up charge. He said that the chef salad was more expensive than the other salad options, and he is not sure why uber continues to allow us to choose that option, so they just do a $5 up charge. I explained to him that I should have received a call and consented to the up charge or at least been given an option to change to another salad. He told me “it’s too busy in here for me to stop what I’m doing every time and call y’all.” I told him he could switch to a regular priced salad and adjust the price back. He stated “I will do it in a second” and hung the phone up on me. I received the regular salad and not chef as I asked , however the price increase remained. This is by far the worst customer service experience I have ever had in the CSRA. As much as I love their cakes I will not tolerate disrespect or unethical business practices.

I've only ever had cake here, but it's amazing cake! I've had the toffee coffee crunch and the red velvet that has cheesecake in the middle. They both are so amazing!!! The slices are gigantic. I love going here for birthdays or a special treat.

Google
We stopped by for cake this afternoon (08FEB25) and purchased a full piece of red velvet and 7th Heaven cakes to enjoy after lunch. However, when we opened the box, we were disappointed to find that the portions were significantly smaller than usual, especially considering the price of $14 per slice. We typically love visiting for cake because it’s always so delicious, but this time, we were EXTREMLY disappointed with the portion size. If this is the new standard, we won’t be returning. P.S. The picture has been included for reference.

Stopped by here for lunch stopping through town on a Saturday. We had a wonderful server, Leila, who was super sweet and told us which dishes she recommends. We’re glad we listened to her because her suggestions were good. We had the Havana Chicken with a side of Cesar salad and my husband had the Southern Gent Sammich with a side of corn chowder. I liked the chicken and the corn chowder but felt the rice that came with the chicken was not good. My husband enjoyed his sandwich. Lastly we finished with a slice of key lime pie which we both really enjoyed. In summary, the chicken itself, corn chowder and key lime pie were my favorites from what we ordered. Docking a star because the rice was not good with the chicken and that was a significant part of the dish. Thank you Leila for your hospitality! 😌

Yelp
A true Augusta gem! The Boll Weevil is one of those places you just have to visit when you're in town. Tucked near the Riverwalk, it's got this fun, laid-back vibe that makes you feel instantly at ease. Whether you're meeting friends or just want a cozy bite to eat, it's always a great pick. The food hits the spot--hearty, flavorful, and made with care. I've never had a bad meal here, but the real star is the dessert case. The cake slices are legendary for a reason. Seriously, don't leave without trying one (or taking one to go). They're massive, rich, and totally worth the splurge. All in all, it's a relaxed, feel-good spot that serves up great food with a side of Southern charm. Highly recommend!

Yelp
This might be my only one star review ever, and I'll own upfront that we didn't even try the food...but after 25 mins upfront with only 4 other people waiting, 6 open tables, and 2 people rolling silverware then 20 more mins sitting at a table, one does not stay around. Right before we left the table next to us finished and upon their departure the guy said "good luck, we just spent 1 1/2 hours for lunch". Our running joke is now that is why they have a back door. Employees had to pass us 10 times like we weren't there despite being seated by a server. I'm assuming they were understaffed in their mind, but there aren't more than 20 tables in there, and we counted at least 7 faces. We didn't see a single plate of food come out in that 45 minutes. It's a shame - cute place, menu looked intriguing and I was super hungry!

Yelp
Stopped in Boll Weevil recently for dinner with a colleague. It was a Monday night at 6:30pm and we were able to be seated straight away. The vibes are casual and comfortable which pairs perfectly with the fare. There was live music while we were there (which was pitch perfect in volume as we were still able to speak comfortably). We sat and my dining companion mentioned they have a decent number of stouts on menu. I ordered a spiced stout, which was amazing. We also ordered their fried green tomatoes, which were great. It was my first experience with fried green tomatoes and they seemed to be an elevated version with a drizzle of balsamic and a horseradish sauce to accompany. Lovely! For my main, I got the grown up grilled cheese and a cup of their corn chowder. The grilled cheese was a tasty combination of pimento cheese and applewood smoked bacon on sourdough. It was divine. The corn chowder is hearty and flavorful. The service was friendly and the prices are reasonable. Get to it!

Yelp
As the saying goes, "the more things change, the more they stay the same." And if you've been in Augusta you know downtown is ever changing (for the better). New places to eat, shop, and even art to discover. But just off the beaten path, though directly across from the Augusta Convention Center, is a spot that has been baking cakes, frying green tomatoes, and making bowls of corn chowder for 35 years! Boll Weevil is diverse in its clientele because of its diversity in offerings. You need a meal? Or just dessert? Or an entire cake? Or maybe one of the biggest selections of porters and stouts in the area? Yep, you guessed it. All right here at Boll Weevil. And come through to hear live music, join in on Bingo night, or experience a open mic. I have been here solo, as a couple, and with the extended family. There's seating and great customer service whatever the party size. If you haven't been, or it's been awhile, stop nito Boll Weevil soon. Also, bring your appetite for the desserts. They are humongous!

Yelp
Traveling through the area, we thought this would be a neat stop. 100% true and delicious! We had the Cajun Pasta, Italian sandwich and Chicken Salad. The fresh baked bread and a a great touch. And the CAKES! So good, and the 1/2 slice is plenty. Especially with some slices being bigger than others

Yelp
My husband and I are here while on vacation. We split the mango quesadilla with steak and a bowl of chili. It was all delicious and the service was great. Would definitely eat he

Yelp
Dive bar ambiance. Good service. Free Street parking or their own lot. Southern cooking with some healthy vegetarian options. I enjoyed the black bean burger with cucumber salad and asian slaw. They offer this burger 2 different ways, and with your choice of bun/bread/hoagie and choice of side. I enjoyed the house salad with vidalia dressing. Hummingbird cake was ok but not as good as i expected. The texture was more finely ground than expected; the texture of the cake reminded me of a cake mix. Frosting is delicious. Right near the riverfront park. I would dine here again.

Yelp
Boll Weevil Café is one of the first places in Augusta that I ever learned about, prior to ever visiting the area. It is a cute restaurant located downtown and near the river. Their cake and cheesecake slices are very well known and recommended by many! During my year in Augusta, I dined here probably five times. My take away from my experience is that the food is not the best ever, but it is a good place to go when you are with a couple of people and you want them to have options. Every time I have been here, I have only been for lunch. Never did I order anything for dinner. I definitely think the Experience of sitting in the place is worth it and I'm not sure that I would recommend just ordering something to go. Staff are friendly, but I'm think I like sitting at the bar best!

Yelp
Place was clean. Music was at good volume so I wasn't yelling at my husband to have a conversation. The waitress was nice but not sure she cared for me so much. She seemed distant at the table. He ordered the Reuben Sandwich with tomato apple soup. He said the Reuben was good. The meat wasn't as tender as would liked. The tomato soup tasted like canned soup with additions. He would order the sandwich again but not the soup. I ordered the pimento cheese burger and chips. I got the burger and pasta salad. I stated I didn't ask for the pasta salad and she promptly brought me chips. The burger was a little more spicy than I expected it to be. It was good though. I'd order it again. The chips are kettle chips. They were as expected. We ordered a few craft beers. We enjoyed them and posted our review of those on Untappd. We also got a piece of cake. A single order was large enough for both of us it was more than we could eat. It was the 7th Heaven. It was good not impressive. Not close my eyes and moan delicious but good. Parking was around the back which is nice to not have to park on the street or search for parking. We will eat there again. It was good not great.

Yelp
The cake that everyone recognizes... I have heard stories about this from my coworkers but haven't gone yet in the couple of years I've been coming to Augusta for work. We finally decided to try it out. Three of my group had peanut butter pie, one had the lemon cake with blueberry cheesecake as the center layer, and I had the plain lemon cake. It was so. freaking. good. We just picked up at the counter as we had already eaten dinner - the person working was super helpful in answering all of our questions. We brought the cake back to the hotel lounge to eat and the person working there said "Oh, you went to Boll Weevil!" This lasted me like 3 meals and I still didn't finish it. I will dream of this lemon cake.

Yelp
I was traveling and happen to roll up on this spot. Nice small but quaint spot. Located near the Riverwalk in Augusta, Ga.. The food was amazing and service was awesome. They have a dessert room that will make you shout. All desserts are homemade....a little pricey but absolutely delicious desserts. The entrees are reasonably priced. They also have a bar. If you are in town this is an enjoyable place.

Yelp
Amazing food! Great beer! This place had a fantastic atmosphere with an open mic. Lots of fun to hangout and relax after work.

Yelp
Was in town visiting family and five of us (3 adults and 2 little boys) stopped in for lunch. The staff was very kid-friendly. The food was delicious. I had shrimp and grits and key lime pie. Should have shared both! They were very good and very generous servings.

Yelp
A friend and I went to Boll Weavil for lunch on a Tuesday afternoon. We were seated immediately and got our drinks and appetizer ordered promptly. The place was nice and quiet, which allowed us to visit and enjoy our meal without feeling rushed. The bubba nachos appetizer was delicious and a good size (we got the large and had leftovers). I ordered the Curious George sandwich with pasta salad. It came out still warm and absolutely incredible. The turkey had a wonderful flavor and the spinach dip was perfect on top. I will definitely order it again. My friend got the fried green tomatoe BLT and she said it was very good. Our waitress was very attentive and helped give us a great experience! We will definitely be back!

Yelp
I didn't order anything except the cakes to go and they are so good! They are soo big that the styrofoam will smush the cake a little but it doesn't effect the cake flavor at all. The employees are very nice and helpful. They were very helpful in choosing which cakes to get. The cakes are big enough for at least 4 people to get full off 1 slice. These 2 slices lasted almost a week between 2 people. The inside is a little small but very quaint. There is a specific entrance and exit. The cakes (shown in the photo) are in a separate section. Red velvet 8/10 Death by chocolate 9/10 I would DEFINITELY visit this location again.
google avatar

Shayla R.

Yelp
Out of the three dishes pictured, the Cesar salad was the best. The quality was decent, the flavor was okay. Nothing great. Nothing to brag about. Nothing to go back...for except dessert. Their cakes are delicious!
google avatar

Yelp
Always a great spot! My go to is the Curious George sandwich, the creamy spinach dip on top is heavenly. Pairs perfectly with their homemade sweet bread! The pasta salad was a little dry, that would be my only complaint. Kayden S. was a wonderful server, very attentive and personable. We were surprised it wasn't busy at 12:30 in the afternoon. Only four other people in there, which made for a nice quiet lunch. We were too full to even think about all the desserts. Next visit! Check them out if you haven't already.
google avatar

Thalia M.

Yelp
All the food and desserts I've tried here are delicious! The prices are very reasonable, and I've consistently had great experiences.
google avatar

Mark F.

Yelp
Turkey and rice soup flavour is good, however the rice was under cooked and hard. Sent soup back and got the tomato apple carrot soup instead and it was fabulous and paired well with the cornbread. If you order make sure you tell them you want it piping hot or it will be just above room temp. Reagan our server was great and accomodating. Comfortable setting.

Yelp
One of the top dessert spots in the CSRA! They have a designated area for To-Go Cakes & Cheesecakes. Downside is that there's only one register, so if the line is long, you gotta wait. BUT that's also a good thing because that makes it first-come first served. Cause once a flavor is gone, they're probably done for the day. Like there was only one slice of Hummingbird Cake remaining after I ordered a slice of Hummingbird Cake & Blueberry Cheesecake. And there were about six people in line after me. I think it's a few cents less if you pay with cash. They have a dedicated parking lot which is cool because they're tucked into the end of a dead ending street and parking is minimal. I had the blueberry cheesecake. It was pretty good. I didn't eat it immediately, so it cooled down some before I ate it. However, it was still good when I did get the chance to devour it! Delicious. I've had their cake before but there's too much icing for me. I like my icing to cake ratio to be like 97% cake : 2% icing (yeah, I know)
google avatar

Ted K.

Yelp
Interesting that they named the restaurant after an invasive pest that almost decimated the cotton industry. Anyhow, we came for dessert as it's my daughter's favorite place in Augusta for cake. Service was great, Douthern hospitality too know. Had the canary lemon and the banana chocolate chip cake which were delicious albeit perhaps a little stale. Icing wasn't too sweet. Will try again though.
google avatar

Matthew Z.

Yelp
Stopped by the other day and split 3 slices with some friends. We ordered the red velvet delight, lemon delight, and coffee toffee slice. Every slice's cake portion was dense yet moist, definitely superior in texture to a grocery store cake. I would personally avoid the cream cheese centered cakes overall in the future because even though it adds a nice change in flavor and temperature, the standard cheesecake interior did not stand out as much as the cake portion (for both the ones we had). The frosting is dense and a bit sweeter than I would like, but overall each cake was enjoyable. We all preferred the coffee one as the bitterness of the chocolate and coffee flavor prevented it form being overpoweringly sweet. At about $11 per slice w/o tax/tip, it seems on the pricy end but each slice is more than enough to feed even two people if eaten as a dessert. Would definitely consider coming back to order a slice as takeout in the future to have with coffee/milk.
google avatar

Natasha R.

Yelp
I had to bump up my review to 5 stars because of the delicious new brunch and mimosas option! We came here for Sunday brunch and everything was delicious- I loved my chicken and waffles. They also had great mimosas for very reasonable prices, absolutely a must try!
google avatar

Melissa W.

Yelp
Delicious desserts, great beer and wine selection and a great menu with healthy option's. Great place with some minor flaws. Their ceiling was so gross. Black mold coming out of there vents meaning we are breathing black mold . Also, their bathrooms could use more attention. Reminder me of a dirty bathroom at a gas station.
google avatar

Kenneth S.

Yelp
We went for desserts and got the carrot cake. It was delicious. Even though we went for only desserts, they gave a chance to sit in one of the tables and enjoy. The service team was very good. They have smoke parking and it's easy to access the place. If you're in Augusta try this place.
google avatar

Morgan M.

Yelp
My husband and I came here for a quick lunch. For this place to be downtown, there was plenty of parking. The restaurant is pretty spacious and we were seated quickly. They didn't have any straws for our drinks which was really disappointing so we got our drinks in paper cups. We had the fried green tomatoes for an appetizer. The actual tomato could have been crispier, seasoned more and the balsamic was not needed. However, that horseradish sauce was amazing! It made everything taste better. I had the BLT and my husband had the Southern Gent Sammich. My BLT did not have enough B, L, or T but the bread was really good. My husband loved the filling of his sandwich but hated the bread. He said it was too soft and it needed to be toasted. We had dessert and it was pretty good, I just wish it had less icing. Overall, this place is ok and I might come back to try something different.
google avatar

David T.

Yelp
I'd call this more southern-inspired cuisine than traditional southern cooking, but it is good. There are a variety of soups, salads, and sandwiches to choose from in addition to larger entrees. I had the hopping John and the grown-up grilled cheese and enjoyed both. Service was also excellent and friendly. I'd go back.
google avatar

Ingrid S.

Yelp
I'm here for the Masters and picking up my credentials at the Marriott. I found I was about an hour early. Looking across the street, I spied this unassuming restaurant and wondered if it was any good. So I opened up the Yelp app and lo and behold, apparently this place serves the best desserts! Curious about their wares, I felt I just had to sample something, anything! Everything looked delicious! If you check out the images it's pretty evident that this place needs to be revisited. So many choices! I picked the banana chocolate chip. It was huge! Yummy too! Since I was by myself, I had a bit and took the rest to-go. Next time, I will go for the strawberry cake.
google avatar

Bob B.

Yelp
I have been to Boll Weevil many times to order their cakes, which come in huge slices. I recommend sharing with several people. Today I went with my co-workers for lunch. I order a traditional burger and I was happy with the salad. I will be back to try out other items on their menu.
google avatar

Yelp
What a great Downtown August find, live music, friendly service, good food and incredible cakes! We three vegetarians enjoyed the fried green tomatoes, Grilled cheese, da bomb-mi and the tree hugger. All delish, especially the veggie burger "bahn mi. Luckily we saved some room for dessert, canary lemon, red velvet+ and perfect chocolate cakes. The Word to the wise, get the half slices of cake. We did not.
google avatar

Michelle L.

Yelp
Nice environment and sweet waitress. Unfortunately the food just was not great. I requested a fried tomato sandwich with pimento cheese. I was surprised to find mayonnaise in there, I couldn't finish it. My hubs got the Boll Weevil, that wasn't great either.
google avatar

Lynette J.

Yelp
I always go there for their cakes and pies which are always great. Service was good and they offer military discounts. Atmosphere was cool. I had no complaints and a good experience.
google avatar

Jane K.

Yelp
If you want to pay $12 for a single slice of dry cake, be my guest. But for half that price, I've had better cake at even Publix. I dropped by on the recommendation of someone who told me they have good desserts (but subpar food), but now I don't think I'll be trying their food or desserts ever again. The ambiance is dark and grimy (think dive bar). How is this place still in business?
google avatar

Heather F.

Yelp
Not the food experience we hoped for. But there was live music and location is close to the riverwalk.
google avatar

Beth G.

Yelp
Food diverse option. We ordered Gumbo and Cuban Panini (chili for the side bc they were out of Hoppin John) all to go. Panini was good -came on a hoagie) but small. Chips was the side or you could choose pasta salad. Staff was helpful. The Cheesecake section is a nice ending if you like cheesecake as the flavor options are about 15 flavors. Gumbo had no spice, gravy thick, shrimp few. Chili was good-had black beans and corn in it. See photo for clarity. Phone doesn't work so can't call in order.
google avatar

Lauren H.

Yelp
Cake 5/5 We had the red velvet deluxe, hummingbird, and coffee toffee (ordered favorite to least favorite). The red velvet and hummingbird were amazing. The coffee toffee was good too but was a bit dry Lunch food 3/5 We loved the tomato apple soup. The portobello sandwich was ok, but was a very small portion for $11. I would not recommend any sandwich on the focaccia- it was extremely dry and wasn't even recoverable once dipped in soup. Pasta salad was decent. I'd stick to the dessert!

K J.

Yelp
This was our first time eating at Boll Weevil and I am so impressed! We were just traveling through town on vacation and decided to stop for lunch. We wanted some place locally owned, not a chain restaurant. Everything was excellent! The service was great, our server Rhagen was so friendly and made wonderful suggestions. She was definitely at the top of her game. The food was delicious and the dessert.....wow! I don't usually write reviews, but this place was so great I just had to let anyone considering eating there know to give it a try. Hopefully you'll love it too. My only disappointment is that I live in another state so I can't go back all the time.
google avatar

Brittany C.

Yelp
This place was so good! The food amount was large and so filling. Ambiance was cozy and the service was so kind! I cannot stress this enough, you have to try the banana chocolate chip cake, it was so huge, moist, and out of this world. I can't wait to go back and have another slice.

Jedidiah H.

Yelp
Me and my husband were told we had to try Boll Weevil while here in Augusta. It did not disappoint! The food was amazing, iced tea was delicious and the cake was perfect! Also huge shout out to our wonderful server Kayden who just had the best energy and great recommendations!
google avatar

Kimberly P.

Yelp
Soup, salmon, gumbo and cake were delicious. Great choices for local beer and cider. Friendly service. Live music on Saturday night. Plenty of parking. The only drawback was that the shrimp and grits were underseasoned. We'd come back!
google avatar

Ned S.

Yelp
While on our anniversary weekend in Augusta, we decided to try Boll Weevil and it happened to be on Father's Day. I ordered the chicken salad which was not satisfying. Felt like a huge clumpy portion of chicken salad on plain romaine. Healthy it is not and needs to be rethought with more veggies. Outdated dining room (circa 1998?) added to the feeling of blah. Waitress was nice and we had a nice chat with one of the owners. With the loud live music and the relatively slow service, everything felt like it went in slow motion and couldn't wait to leave.
google avatar

Yvonne N.

Yelp
Good service, food was fine - we both had sandwiches and the bread was different (crumbly).
google avatar

Tina V.

Yelp
This little gem is a spot of history. I started with the "blueberry lemonade wine cocktail". Watch out for the 9.2% kick... but tasty. Then we decided to try the tomato apple soup because hubby loves tomato soup. It's not my flavor but I have to say it was so yummy with the homemade crackers that came with the bowl. So delightfully different. Service was spot on and the vibe was great.
google avatar

Judy L.

Yelp
My friend and I may have had too high of an expectation for Boll Weevil. We thought the cakes would be amazing after seeing all of the raving reviews. Unfortunately, we were extremely disappointed. She got the Hummingbird cake and I got the 7th Heaven cheesecake/cake combo and they were both extremely disappointing. Way too sweet plus the cake was dry in both items. If you are known for your cake, your cake should not be hard and dry! On the savory food side, it was even more disappointing. We got the spinach artichoke dip that tasted like it was frozen. In fact, it was actually cold in the middle. Then we both got sandwiches. I got The Jerk and she got The Portabella and both sandwiches were tasteless. I am not sure what is so special about their freshly baked honey wheat bread, but it was dry. Overall, this was one of the most disappointing and overpriced meals I have ever had.

Yelp
The best cake in the world. And I've eaten lots of cakes over the years and in different cities and places. All their cake slices are huge enough to share or for one person to eat over one or two days. Seriously huge (to be fair the slices are expensive but the price is worth it). The icing on all of these is so good I could just eat the icing by itself. And this is coming from someone who usually wipes off the icing on cupcakes or cakes. When compared to their cheesecake, the cakes are significantly more worth it. Or even better, get the Red Velvet Delight and you can have your cake and eat cheesecake too! It's two huge layers of red velvet with a layer of cheesecake in between. My favorite!!! Another favorite is their strawberry cake and the icing is the best part on this. I also love the Coffee Toffee cake. Pieces of crunchy toffee with coffee flavored icing and dense chocolate cake is a match made in heaven. I could go on and on about their dense yet fluffy, delicious cakes, but really this is something you need to try for yourself. Do not leave Augusta without trying one. Serious. As for their cafe/food part of the restaurant it's just meh. But still 5 stars just for the cake alone.

Yelp
Southern Gent Sammich was so dry. I got the Southern Gent Sammich and husband got Cuban, both with pasta. We split our sandwiches so we got to try both. Cuban was ok, but the Sammich was disappointing. I literally couldn't finish my half because the bread was almost 3/4th of the sandwich and was so dry. Maybe the foccacia bread is meant to be that dry, I don't know, because usually when I have foccacia it's with oil and vinegar. Having it as the sandwich bread didn't seem to work out because everything was dry and eventually it was crumbling all over our plate...I ended up only eating the meat portion and left the bread on the plate. As with my husband's other half of the sammich, he barely got any meat. He had to open the sandwich up and spread the little amount of meat he got. My husband normally never complains about food, but even he commented on how dry it was. He doesn't like wasting food so he just finished it. I couldn't. The staff are all nice, but overall food experience was truly a let down.

Yelp
Talk about an Augusta staple! This place is a must-try for any Augusta visitor or Augusta native, and the reason is this... the CAKE! Saying the slices are big is an understatement. They may be about $11 each, but they are enormous! We split 2 slices between 5 people (after eating lunch), and we still had a few bites left. Plus, they are absolutely delicious. You can't go wrong with any option. This particular visit, I had the Velvet Delight and the 7th Heaven. Super rich and super moist. In the past, I've had Strawberry, Red Velvet, and Carrot Cake, and I can't even choose a favorite. Unfortunately, the non-dessert food leaves a bit to be desired. I would not recommend the Southern Gent Sammich. The focaccia bread was painfully dry and mealy - more like a bad cornbread than foccaccia - and it made up the majority of the sandwich. There was very little roast beef, and the fried green tomatoes were thick, hard, and not even breaded. However, the pasta salad that comes with the sandwich is tasty, and I know they do have some good items on the menu. Da Bomb Mi is a tasty sandwich, and my coworkers absolutely raved about the Pasta Creole, so perhaps I just need to order a different dish next time! Overall, I would definitely recommend Boll Weevil, even if you must beware of certain non-dessert menu items. It's a cute, casual vibe inside, and the service was great. There is parking behind the restaurant, right off James Brown Blvd (if you didn't know if was there, you might miss it!), and even though it seems small, we had no trouble finding parking during the Friday lunch rush. I would recommend coming here for a delicious sweet treat!

Yelp
We normally like Boll Weevil for their cake and would often venture downtown just to get it. Upon reading reviews, it seems the price has nearly doubled for a slice of cake in under a year's time. We stopped by for brunch today and the music was unreasonably loud. It was a soundtrack I could best describe as being sponsored by divorced dads and Budweiser. I couldn't hear the hostess and she refused to speak any louder. We waited long enough for one song to complete and we left. BW is not a big place nor does it have a patio section that rates music that loud. I sent friends a video and they said it was like that when they came, too. Absolutely will not be coming back. The cake is delicious but with the price hike and loud music, it's not worth the trip to get it. Their regular menu isn't anything to rave about either.
