"From the outside, Box House Hotel could easily be mistaken for another warehouse-turned-apartment-building in its Greenpoint neighborhood. The inside is just as true to form. The sunny, high-ceilinged rooms are fitted with large kitchenettes, dishware and all. The homey urban décor, from the big pull-out sofas to the warm modern lighting and hardwood floors, makes perfect sense for this converted door factory." - Mark Fedeli

The Box House Hotel in New York is a true gem—stylish, cozy, and packed with character. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’ve discovered something special from the moment you step through the doors. The design is a standout feature. With its industrial-chic aesthetic, vibrant artwork, and thoughtfully curated decor, every corner of the hotel feels like a blend of sophistication and creativity. The rooms are spacious (a rarity in NYC!), impeccably clean, and equipped with everything you need for a comfortable stay. The kitchenettes are a fantastic bonus, giving you the option to whip up a meal or snack if you’re not out exploring the city’s endless dining options. The staff are absolutely wonderful—friendly, attentive, and always ready with a smile or a helpful tip about the area. They go above and beyond to make you feel welcome, which really elevates the whole experience. The location is another highlight. Nestled in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, the hotel offers a quiet retreat from the hustle and bustle of Manhattan while still being close enough to all the action. The complimentary shuttle service to the subway is a thoughtful touch that makes getting around even easier. Whether you’re visiting for business, a romantic getaway, or just exploring NYC, The Box House Hotel is a fantastic choice. It’s not just a place to stay—it’s an experience that adds to the magic of your trip. Highly recommended!

Had a good stay at The Box House Hotel, the biggest perk was our room (#13) fully equip with a kitchenette, stove, and microwave, pull out sofa living area, and Queen bed. We absolutely loved our room and considered it fairly sound proof especially when traveling with a toddler. The room was also very clean. We were discouraged both nights when we weren’t allowed to go to the Rooftop due to events. Definitely work the stay and hopefully we can check out the rooftop when we return.

I stayed here a year ago and totally forget to do a review… The Box Hotel has such a cool, friendly vibe.. Angelina especially needs a mention, she went above and beyond for me at my stay here. I brought the wrong plug with me to charge my phone, Angelina lent me what I needed and was always so chill and warm. I loved the tunes too 🎶🎵 Thank you.

Stayed for a week to celebrate my sister's wedding and the hotel and staff was a disaster. After checking in, our room was nice and clean but we learned that they put us in the wrong room despite paying more for a larger room. We opted for service one day and when we returned there were no towels in the room. They took every single towel and didn't replace them. After calling down to the front desk, we waited an hour, I went down to get more and the gentleman at the front desk said this was a common occurrence with the cleaning staff. They finally brought the towels we called down for after an hour and a half. We also were supposed to have cookies in our room that my sister had dropped off two days prior and we didn't have them nor did any other guest that booked with the room block. When we went to pick up the extras they said they didn't have them. My sister had dropped off over 70 cookies! While the wedding was a success (seriously, the people who run the wedding venue on the roof need to run the hotel, they did an amazing job) the worst part was the morning after. My sister and her husband were kicked out of the bridal suite at 9 am. They were told they could keep the room until 3, and after what they paid they should've been able to. The hotel offered to let them PAY to stay longer but they had no interest in doing that. We went down the following morning when we checked out and we expressed our frustrations. The woman at the front desk was extremely rude and didn't seem to care at all. If you read other reviews, this seems to be a common occurrence. Just a crappy way to end their wedding experience. Overall, if you are considering having your wedding here, I would opt to stay somewhere else. The wedding staff are great but the hotel is lacking in a lot of ways. STAY SOMEWHERE ELSE!

I've stayed in a great many hotels around the NYC area over the last ten years and this one, by far, is the best I have stayed in and will probably become my go-to hotel when in the city nowadays. The building internally is beautiful, the rooms are really spacious compared with what you find most of the time in the city, and everything was spotless. The beds are quite soft which is fine for me but I know not everyone likes a soft mattress. The balcony attached to the room had an amazing view of the Manhattan skyline too. Greenpoint is a fantastic safe neighbourhood as well, there is a load of restaurants and shops within walking distance. It is about a 15 minute walk across the Pulaski bridge to the nearest subway station (Vernon Boulevard 7 train) but nothing too bad, and it's only three stops away from Times Square.

Google
This hotel is in keeping with the location in trendy Greenpoint, Brooklyn. It is modern warehouse style hotel. very informal and perfect for short stays in the area. Surprisingly poor service from the front desk staff on arrival, but otherwise the stay was enjoyable. The room was a decent size, positively large compared to what I expect in Manhattan, and comfortable enough. Decent no frills bathroom.

Google
We stayed 5days in the room that comes with a kitchen. Overall, the hotel is pretty nice and the staffs are friendly as well. Especially Angelina, she is super friendly and helpful so definitely do reach out to her if you see her. However, the reason why I give a three star is because on the last night of our stay, we came back to a room that was not cleaned. We did not put any signs on the door. We ask the staff and they told us that the cleaning team said that we declined the cleaning service, which is not true. The front desk did give new towels after that but that is all. The room was quite big but not clean enough and the windows are shield with no light, it’s very dark even during daytime. There were also quite a few flies in the room. Good part: The breakfast is tasty. Hotel vibes also good. Service: 3~5 stars(depends on person) House Cleaning: 3 stars Room Cleanliness: 3.5 Breakfast Food: 5

Second time staying at the box house hotel. I absolutely love this place. The rooms are big, inspiring and have a great view of the city. The location is perfect if you're wanting to escaping the hustle of the city and be in a quiet and friendly neighbourhood. The staff at the box house are also what makes this place. Front desk staff are well mannered and even kept an item I had forgotten months ago during my last stay. This review isn't enough to highlight why this has got to be one the best hotels in the neighbourhood. Perfect vibe all season.

Yelp
Recently stayed for 3-nights in their two bedroom duplex room to attend a wedding in Manhattan and reception held at their rooftop event space. Our room was conveniently located on the 1st floor at the end of the hall pass the lobby. We did not have any issues with noise. They offer free pastries and coffee in the morning if you prefer something light to eat. The hotel is in a good location within walking distance of a nice playground for the kids, many markets to choose from, and various restaurants. The kitchen had everything we needed except kitchen towels. The only thing we had to pick up was hand soap and a roll of paper towels. The room was nice and clean and we paid $75 for early check-in around 11am. We had a very nice and comfortable stay and would recommend this hotel to stay and as a wedding venue. The reception was beautiful on the rooftop and the staff were all great.

Yelp
I was extremely disappointed with my wedding weekend stay at The Box House. Despite spending over $4,000 for two nights, the service was subpar. Housekeeping was late, there was no phone in the one-bedroom suite, and valet staff left early without notifying guests, leaving keys at the front desk. Miscommunication around early check-in fees and missing personal touches for a wedding stay were frustrating. Worst of all, I emailed the manager with all of my feedback and received no response. Daryna was wonderful, but overall, the lack of professionalism and attention to detail was unacceptable. Would not recommend.

Sabrina B.

Yelp
This place was a disappointment. Dirty bathroom, mattress was thin and uncomfortable, no elevator in the building. I do not suggest this hotel.

Stacey B.

Yelp
Friendly and helpful staff, lovely and clean facility. Easy walking to restaurants and bodegas. Easy street parking. Pricier than I usually like to pay, but I was in town for an event at Brooklyn Steel venue. What I paid for hotel, I made up in Ubers and parking elsewhere. Highly recommend.

Brenda S.

Yelp
Cute hotel, I don't really have any complaints! It's nicely decorated, and the staff kindly let us hold our bags before check in so we didn't have to drag them around town. I basically just slept here but I would recommend it

Jessica G.

Yelp
Shitty doesn't even begin to cover it. Inept and arrogant staff. Dirty facilities. Loud, messy, the opposite of what you'd want in a hotel. Due yourself a favor and go to the Hoxton if you want to be in this area, this place and staff will ruin Brooklyn for you.

Cathy B.

Yelp
The bathrooms have no place to put your cosmetics or hang a towel. Coffee makers are out dated and cheap. .no special amenities for such a pricey hotel in Brooklyn. No espresso served or decaf in the restaurant for breakfast. Not easy to get the discount rate at the associated parking garage. The desk person was rude and of no help. Unprofessional and inexperienced for the job! Wouldn't go back or recommend!

Dominique N.

Yelp
Situated in a quiet neighborhood in Greenpoint, this hotel offers excellent common areas and large rooms, most with mini kitchens and appliances! The highlight might be the lobby and on-site bar, which features unique global decor and vintage touches. There is also a rooftop with views of Queens and midtown Manhattan!

Akeema R.

Yelp
The boyfriend and I wanted to go a little fancier for one of our tryst so we decided to see what this pricey hotel was all about. One word Overpriced. Pros Very clean, room was decorated cool. I like the balcony but without a chair or anything to sit on. It's basically a human size window. The bed was comfortable and despite their being a rooftop bar it was quiet and I got good nights sleep. Check in/out was easy and the front desks associates were courteous. Cons Even with it being cheaper then what they would normally charge still overpriced to me. I got a deal on booking.com. You're paying for the "hipster" location. The room was smaller than I expected. The "chair", if you can call it that, at the desk was hard as hell and honestly I was afraid to sit on it because it looked frail and child size. No microwave or refrigerator. It's was cool for our purpose and we got the experience. But I don't need to return. I would on someone else's dime however.

L S.

Yelp
Awful place to stay. The photo of the standard room is fake. The front desk staff are both lazy and incompetent. The room is tiny, very small. I have several anecdotes about the front desk staff - all are very negative. If you like this place, I suspect you really do live in a box.

Zoraida P.

Yelp
Went and stood in the loft room with my daughters and grandchildren absolutely wonderful cleaning staff everyday a little kitchen inside room beautiful skylights can change room temperature bathroom was beautiful with bath shampoo and conditioner it came with pots pan dishes cofee maker and toaster it was beautiful also electric stove mini fridge and dishwasher and plates really loved the place

Avery L.

Yelp
Peter, at the front desk, is extremely rude and unhelpful. He used the term "that's on you" when I asked for help, and every one of the staff claim to be a manager and don't let you ask for help - avoid this hotel at all costs.

Sara W.

Yelp
Inconsistent service, loud parties, small rooms. Overall a huge disappointment. When we raised concerns about the noise our breakfast was comped by the hotel manager, and then NOT HONORED BY THE RESTAURANT. But pretty clean for an nyc hotel.

Cindy W.

Yelp
Being stuck in NYC due to weather, the box house hotel was welcoming site for a sore body and this weary traveler. Our greeting at 10 pm was met with a wonderful gentleman named John who graciously gave us complimentary breakfast for our stay. Breakfast was delicious and generous. The style and art of the hotel is quaint. The Greenpointe neighborhood is fun, full of life and don't skip the Greenpointe Beer and Ale's smoked pork belly sandwich BLAT. After the worst month of my life, this neighbor and welcoming hotel gave me hope. Thank you!!

Donna M.

Yelp
Any of the negative reviews are telling the truth. The front desk is lovely but they are not going to really help you. I did find the beds to be comfortable. I will stay somewhere else next time.

Melinda W.

Yelp
Wow. So my first night was great. I have a basic queen size room. Everything is clean, immaculate. The bathroom is beautiful. Cory at the front desk was super helpful and pleasant. My issue is happening right now. It's really wild that it is stressed no more the 2 guests are allowed in rooms designed for 2, no events allowed, and you will be escorted off the premises if having an event. I thought this was great! The type of place for me to get rest. Ha. I hear lots of hard walking and terrible singing. I call the front desk and I'm told "there's a wedding on the the roof". Uhm. Ok. Guess y'all do have events. No apologies, just "it should be over by 10:30". Wow. My five star rating deflated to a three. It's fine to have a wedding, but maybe mention that when I arrive. Maybe offer to give me another room, since clearly I'm annoyed. Did not end at 10:30, called and asked for a new room. Told it would end sharply at 11pm. We'll see. Bc I'm over it. I have ALOT of words for ownership and management. It's also poor management and construction if I can hear the wedding a floor down and it's on the roof. Insulate the room. Questioning everything. Wifi did not work for laptop or iPad. When I called about it, was told "Spectrum is on the floor, let me find out." No call back, because obviously no one cares.

Yelp
Nice looking hotel, Nice room, customer service non-existent. We were placed into a loft room that was very nice, except that the loft area was over 90 degrees. Cranked the air conditioning thinking it would cool the room off while we went out. Came back a few hours later and downstairs was chilly but loft temperature had not improved. Went down to front desk and told the young lady at the desk about the room issue and she said, "what would you like me to do about it". A gentleman behind the counter heard her response and asked me to wait a minute while he finished checking in a guest. He told me that he would go to the room with me as there was an air conditioner upstairs I must not be seeing. He went upstairs and agreed it was too hot to sleep up there and there was no air conditioner up in the loft area. He left and came back about 10 minutes later and offered two options, move to the top floor, but there was a wedding going on up there and he said it is quite noisy, or stay in the room as there were no other rooms available. Since there was really no option we stayed in the room. He offered a breakfast coupon for service that starts at 8 for our inconvenience. We had to be checked-out by 7:30 for previous plans, so coupon was of no use. $320 for a night of no sleep and at checkout we only got a "thank you for staying with us"! Maybe a hotel with nice looking rooms, but taking care of customers is not their thing!

Lori P.

Yelp
A surprise find when I had to find an alternative to my usual hotel. I have never slept so well, as the beds and bedding (ala Ikea!) are beyond comfortable. Wonderfully eclectic with antique touches throughout. And the staff are so friendly. I highly recommend for anyone needing to stay in Brooklyn and am pleased with the reasonable room rates. Located in the Greenpoint neighborhood, so although the hotel has only street parking, I feel safe walking alone. Nice fitness room with weights, equipment, and sauna. I wish the adjoining restaurant was open every night. But Milk & Roses restaurant modeled after an old library right down the street has great food, decor, and an outdoor seating area. Wonderful hotel experience, Thank you!

Yelp
So many errors: 1. We get to our room with the bellman, and it's not even ready. It's 4:00 pm, btw. 2. We and the bellman go to the front desk where we are told to wait in line. Then offered a room with a "slight" upcharge. We prefer a room WITHOUT an upcharge. (like THAT'S not the oldest trick in the book.) We are given the keys to another room, but the bellman and luggage cart are elsewhere. Our bags are in the lobby. On the floor. Where ANYONE could take them. 3. There's no coffee, no coffee cups by the little coffeemaker. We are assured it will be delivered. The next morning, I went to a deli for coffee. 4. The wedding is on the absolutely fabulous roof deck, and we leave with some happy memories.

Elizabeth E.

Yelp
Denied booking my hotel as I am unable to travel without my service dog. They have a "no service dog" policy. I didn't think this type of policy was legal in NYC. I'm still doing the research and talking with 311. I will update this review upon finishing my research. They called my service dog that has been trained for over 200 hours a "pet" and turned us away. Look elsewhere. They are prejudiced.

Laurenn B.

Yelp
Terrible experience. I stayed here on New Years Eve and when I was given the key to my room at 7pm, it had not been cleaned and was littered with bottles and pizza boxes. I was not able to use the room to get ready for my night out. Then I came back and attempted to shore before bed and there was no hot water. There was still no hot water in the morning. I talked to the front desk and they gave me the manager's email. He ignored my email but when my husband called, agreed to give us 20% off the room. But I had to go through booking.com to get the discount, and when they called on my behalf, the manager said he had never agreed to that. So I never got my discount and I spent nearly $600 on a room I could barely use and couldn't take a shower in.

Ashley B.

Yelp
Stopped by her since my friends was djing on a Friday night. They check your temperature upon entering, you must wear your mask at all times unless eating or drinking, tables are socially distanced apart. The roof is retractable but if it isn't retracted the windows are open for ventilation. The food is nothing to write home about. We ordered the calamari, short rib flatbread. Margherita pizza, and the burger. The calamari was actually super delicious. Crispy, flavorful dipping sauce and not chewy whatsoever. The short rib flatbread you couldn't even taste the flatbread. There was a bean spread on it that was super overpowering. The Margherita pizza was bland with way too much tomato sauce and barely any basil. The burger was alright if anything the sweet potato fries were there best part. Our table ordered bottle service with 2 bottles of 1942. They came out with strobe lights, placed the bottles down and left. I've been to other bars with a bit of more dancing and service. You also cannot dance in the walkway which is difficult because there is barely enough area in your sitting area to dance especially if you have 10+ people

Judy M.

Yelp
For $500 a night, you'd think they would offer you more than 1-ply toilet paper and scratchy thin towels. The rooms are poorly lit, especially the bathroom (forget about putting on makeup accurately). That said, although the rooms are also small, they are cute and clean. No high-tech upgrades (lamps and furnishings look like they're straight out of the 70s or 80s, no phone chargers, etc), but totally functional otherwise. I wish they would address the lighting issue and provide some more luxurious items in the bathroom. Total meh stay, despite a beautiful wedding on the roof.

Annie R.

Yelp
Was very much excited to stay here but was nothing but disappointing. Paid extra for an upgrade package which we did not get. Had to ask 3 of the staff to finally get refunded the last day after checking out. Asked around for directions as tourists but the staff did not seem to care at all. We did not even get an apology for the upgrade package they failed to provide us. Needless to say we will not be staying here in the future. The staff's attitude is appalling. At least pretend to care?

Daniel H.

Yelp
TLDR: RUDE STAFF, NOT WORTH YOUR MONEY. My fiancée and I were guests at her sister's wedding on the rooftop. The venue was beautiful and overall things went well. The main reason I am giving such a low rating is because I have never seen my fiancée (who is the most kind and patient person I have met in my life) so upset over an interaction with someone in the five years we have been together. Apparently a staff member was extremely rude while she was helping to clean up puzzle pieces of sentimental value to the bride and groom, ripping the tablecloth away and scattering the pieces everywhere while speaking to her in a rude manner. This kind of behavior is absolutely unacceptable period, let alone in a hospitality setting. I will also say that my fiancée was just one of several individuals I heard complain about the staff that evening. I also was able to check out the rooms as the bridal party was getting ready. They are old looking and nothing special, and certainly not worth the prices they charge (even in NYC). Please consider staying somewhere else, hotels that tolerate this kind of behavior among their staff do not deserve our business.

Larissa S.

Yelp
If you want to be thrown out by the police and sleep with roaches then stay here. The staff is so horrible and not helpful with anything. The police said they were there very often with just people sitting the lobby calmly and the people working there calling the police on them to leave. I've was told by their staff three times all different people my active service animal was ok to come. it's actual illegal to deny them as it is. I had a grown man screaming in my face and putting his hands in my face. He called the cops on me but the cops wrote him up for his treatment of me and my only want was a refund and find another place to go. they were ready to just make me stay on the street in extreme heat with my service animal. it was the most horrifying experiences of my life.

Jess L.

Yelp
Unique spot at the tip of Greenpoint. It will take you 10-ish minutes to walk to the closest G station, but if you're interested in also getting to know the neighborhood, Box House is a worthy option. Our room was very large, much bigger than many NYC friends' apartments. The bedroom, which was set apart from a living area, was small, but you're not doing much in there besides using the bed, anyway. The bathroom was pretty basic. The single-ply toilet paper is a real bummer, and the bathroom fan started to smell a little mechanical after a few minutes. The shower was super tiny. The outdoor patio is a nice touch, though our room overlooked a highway ramp, so there wasn't much to look at.

Xia B.

Yelp
This review is strictly for the rooftop bar that opened in July! I love the tropical theme, decor and well tailored hosting that this rooftop bar has! They go all out. And they might as well because you will be shelling out $20 per appetizer, and $17 per cocktail. That's just the way it is. Accept it, and you'll have a blast!

Dani L.

Yelp
We went back today and wanted to provide an update. We were at a better table and the experience was SO MUCH better!!! The watermelon margarita was insanely good, the hostess was incredibly friendly! The crab guacamole is surprisingly so delicious!! Such a great place!!!

Jimmy J.

Yelp
The rooms are cold and the roof is noisy! It's easily the worse DJ you can imagine, which doesn't help. The food is very...very average. I wish the owners cared. Greenpoint is pretty cool though.

Janet K.

Yelp
My family and I stayed here this past weekend and had a very disappointing experience. We stayed here to attend a wedding that was being held at the hotel. We booked a 1 bedroom for the 1st night and then was going to upgrade to a 2 bedroom loft for the second night since my husband's parents were coming for the second night. Once we packed up our luggage to move into the 2 bedroom, we noticed that it's only accessible through 2 flights of stairs and does not have elevator access. 2 flights of stairs isn't ideal for my husbands elderly parents nor for little kids who still use stroller. Mind you, this would mean we would have to carry our luggage up and down. When we asked the front office if we can just change our reservation to keep the same room we were staying in and to add a separate room for the parents, it would've been a credit of 185 dollars to our overall stay. They informed us that they have a no refund policy which is just absurd since we just (10 mins ago) paid for the remaining balance for the 2 bedroom. I then asked if I could use the 185 dollars at the partnering restaurant and their response was no. I asked if they can escalate this to the manager and the front desk lady went back and after about 15 mins later, said he would like to speak to me. The manager then came out (along with the front desk lady) and proceeded to take me to an empty room with a defensive tone and posture and placed 2 chairs on the ground (chairs were all up above the table), and asked me to take a seat. I told him, i did not feel comfortable with how he's approaching me and that I would like to leave the room and he told he front desk lady to check me out and that I can't stay here. He then decides to leave the hotel. I was pretty shaken from the encounter and the front desk lady grabbed more managers and had to explain the situation and after much pleading, they agreed to refund the 185 dollars. At this point, I really did not want to stay at this hotel but given that all arrangements were made around the hotel, I ended up staying. Don't stay here unless you absolutely have to and make sure you know you're not making any changes once it's booked.

Natalie G.

Yelp
This is such a gorgeous hotel and it smells amazing!!! The rooftop is enclosed so you can still have your swoon worthy views and drink cocktails, even in winter. It's a gorgeous spot for parties and weddings. Can't believe I'm only just discovering this beauty. Talk about a hidden gem! Didn't see the rooms so no comment on those. The staff I interacted with were all helpful and friendly so I imagine this must be extended to guests staying in the hotel as well.

Marie G.

Yelp
I originally booked a stay at the Henry Norman hotel. I received a call the day before my stay. Telling me the rules and asking me for full names of my guests and all the things you CAN'T do there. I was like jeez, take it easy. They also told me that they will be housing all of their guests at their sister property, The Box House Hotel. Without any explanation why. I should have asked but I was kinda at a loss for words. What if I specifically booked my stay just because I wanted that hotel? Kind of off putting. I arrived at 3 PM check-in time here. I was kinda blown away with how spacious and beautifully decorated the lobby was. Friendly check-in woman. I was just in awe walking to my room. From the floors to the walls, paintings, decorations, everything! Very clean and tidy. Passed the gym on the way to the elevators. It's out of commission due to COVID-19. All you have to do is put your key card on the device in the elevator and it'll take you to your room without touching your floor number. I liked that. I stayed in room 224. As soon as you get out of the elevators there is a drink vending machine that only takes cards or Apple Pay. Big room with the ice machine across from there. Upon walking into my room, I was pretty floored. Beautiful, big open space. I had a studio with a terrace. Everything was clean and nicely kept. Lots of towels in the bathroom and may I say, the shampoo, conditioner and body wash they provide are amazing! My hair was so soft after using them. Must have been the essential oils. Had a refrigerator and tray of assorted coffee, teas and everything that goes along. Free bottles of water in the fridge and two chocolates on the bed. Went in to a nice, cold room. Big a/c and ceiling fan. Lots of windows with good, natural light. The terrace was nice. No chairs out there though. I saw a few terraces that had some patio furniture so I'm not sure if those people brought their own. Could see the river and Manhattan view. Cozy bed. I just loved everything. I'm so glad too since this hotel wasn't my choice! It was quiet so I got a good nights sleep. Location is great. Near pretty much everything. The only complaint I have is that the original room I paid for came with a minibar and snack bar. I specifically wanted that minibar so when my new room didn't have one, I was ticked off. I paid for it so they should have gave me it in the new place. Would I stay here again? Absolutely. Loved it a lot and look forward to returning.

Lyndsi L.

Yelp
I absolutely loved this hotel! The front desk staff was so friendly and let me check in early. My room was beautiful and super clean. Bed was comfortable, and the area/room was nice and quiet. Will be back for sure!

Alyssa B.

Yelp
This hotel was cute but I was disappointed with it. We booked a duplex room with a balcony. We booked the duplex because there were 4 of us and we wanted the second floor for a little bit of separation. At check in we were "upgraded" to a loft with a terrace. It was a studio style room where the pull out couch and bed were feet from each other. So instead of having separation we all literally stared at each other sleeping. The upgrade was the terrace part. It's 20 degrees outside. We didn't use it. So realistically I paid extra money for a room and ended up getting downgraded. Then, we found out the terrace door wouldn't lock, and I asked to be moved and they instead sent someone to show us how to rig the door so it would lock. We shouldn't have had to worry about that... The beds were uncomfortable (hard as a rock) and there were stains on the pillow cases. The hotel itself isn't near a ton but it is close to the subway. The lobby and room decor were cute but otherwise it wasn't half way as good a stay as I expected.

Yelp
THIS HOTEL DISCRIMINATES AGAINST VETERANS AND THE DISABLED*** I see a lot of 5 star reviews for this dump and i really think people must be easily impressed or something because i would give it 0 stars if i could. The neighborhood is a gentrified former trash heap. The building is a rickety old factory and cluttered with random mis-matched junk in some lame and overplayed attempt to be hip and whimsical. The staff is rude and ignorant and incompetent all the way up to operations/proprietor. They illegally refused to accept my partners service dogs who are registered, certified, trained, vested psychiatric service animals. Skimming through the other reviews apparently this is just what they do over and over and they should be investigated and shut down. I was going to book and as a courtesy i called to let them know i would be bringing 2 service animals- which i do not have to do. They told me they have a no pets policy. I informed them that I was looking at the ny state statute and psychiatric service dogs like these are protected. They asked me what task they perform and i gave them that info but that wasn't where it ended. They went outside the realm of legal inquiry by then judging their tasks as unnecessary and they kept on referring to them as "Pets". My partner is a combat veteran with severe ptsd and these animals are trained to perform a number of assists for him when he needs it during episodes of flashbacks and night terrors. They even went so low as to say that maybe they would have accepted them if the dogs were German shepherds or "real service dogs" and maybe if my partner had a "real disability" like blindness. I was taken aback by the rudeness and ignorance and lost my temper completely. I let the operations manager know that they are glorified hotel desk clerk at best and not qualified to make the kind of medical and psychiatric judgement calls that they were making and that all they are allowed to do is inquire about their task, not analyze the validity or need for them. He said he's just relaying a message from the owner. I let him know that as an operations manager he has a fiduciary duty to run the business according to the law and that arbitrary hotel policy doesn't supersede that. He told me to stay elsewhere. I still had to attend a wedding there and we were coming from across the country so staying on site was most convenient and after speaking with my partner he made other arrangements for the dogs for the 2 nights and then told me to book it anyway. When i did my booking was cancelled. I then booked at another hotel around the corner, Franklin guesthouse not knowing it was affiliated and they cancelled that! Which means these petty bored feckless snobs searched their other properties around town to make sure i personally didn't book. Really nice to know how they treat veterans and the disabled. Guess the truth really hurt! I wound up booking down the street and attended the wedding. It was still a beautiful event because of the people I was going there to see but it had little to do with the venue. It was a rooftop deck. Ladies do not wear stilettos if you don't want to get stuck in the cracks every other step and damage your shoes or possibly risk injury. Also the staff who was coordinating the event were very loud about shouting their commands to the staff into their earpieces about next courses or whatever like they're secret service or something. They should get out of the way and keep their voices down. It's not backstage at the Grammys for gods sake. The food was uncreative and mediocre at best. Then half way through dinner they drew back the awning covering the deck and ruined dinner because it was like 40° out. After shivering for 10 minutes someone finally got the memo that it was too cold and they shut it. Do yourself a favor and shop around because i found a hotel a mile away that was clean, comfortable and half the price and it had friendly accommodating staff.

Yelp
After making a wedding at the box house there were several things lacking along with its attributes. It is a beautiful venue , and the food was excellent with a good variety. The planning and organization was not professional or complete. There were not enough seats at the ceremony nor at the branch. Most disturbing was the one table set up for cocktail hour and dessert leaving a very long line of people annoyed. That is basic knowledge for catering. Also there did not seem to have a cohesiveness between the event planner , Dj and the photographer for the time line.

Yelp
Heartless. I booked a room here through Airbnb. Because of unforeseen circumstances, I was forced to cancel the trip. The Box House Hotel decided to enforce Airbnb's cancellation policy even though Airbnb said it was completely up to the discretion of the hotel. So they kept more than $600.00 of mine, even though they were able to book the room again on those dates. No contrition, no sympathy. Just "those are the rules." If they had lost money because of me, I'd understand them keeping it. Dear Box House Hotel: be better than this.

Yelp
Where do I start? The only thing nice about this place is the friendly handsome security guards who were very helpful when no one else would be. The prices are extremely expensive. A nice little date with run you $100 for two drinks and two appetizers. It was just me and my girlfriend Then the manager "Joey" is the worst manager I've ever encountered in all my years of dining and going out in NYC He is rude , nasty and can be overheard OVER the live dj talking nastily to his workers in a disgusting demeaning manner It also took 1hr for our drinks to be made over because something was in it

Yelp
The hotel rooms are great. The issue is their change fee. I had a family event cancel so I no longer needed the room for June 2023. I asked if I could move the reservation to the following month as I am a repeat customer and why not enjoy Brooklyn. The hotel wanted to charge me 300+ for the change fee. Expedia did ask them to waive the fee and the hotel refused. I had stayed at the hotel every New Years (3 years) before covid restrictions (Dec 2022) and for at least one summer time visit. I am disappointed and I will not stay again. It's pure greed and not good customer service.

Yelp
Very cute hotel in the middle of Greenpoint, Brooklyn. I recently stayed here and had my birthday celebration at their rooftop bar Top of the Box. The hotel itself is very reasonably priced (most likely thanks to the current Coronavirus pandemic) and is very cute. It boasted a comfortable queen sized bed, renovated/clean bathroom, high ceilings, and rustic stapler interior garnishes. Check in and check out was extremely easy. It is close to the G line for all of your north and south traveling needs. The rooftop bar was a lot of fun. We had a table reserved for about 12 friends. The DJ played great music and they implemented a cool ordering system where everything is done on your phone. You scan a QR code and order straight from your phone. The servers know automatically which table you are at, as each table has a unique QR code. I took off a star because the mixed beverages are $19 with hardly any alcohol. I guess that is somewhat expected in New York, especially at a hotel bar, but this was kind of egregious.

Yelp
The hotel is interesting, unique rooms, nice lobby and a bar. The location a bit remote although some good dining options in the area with loads more deeper into Greenpoint. The customer service, possibly the worst I have ever received. I booked a room and upon arrival was notified that my booking was not reflected in their system, despite a charge on my credit card. After spending about 2 hours in their lobby, waiting for my booking to show, I paid for another room as front desk made no attempt in finding alternative solutions. When reaching out to management to explain the unpleasant stay, they too offered no attempt in resolving the issue. Hospitality and customer service at its best!!! They offer lots of smiles but do not posses any ability to offer real service.

Yelp
This place is awesome!! I won't lie, the prices are really high or moreso Manhattan pricing but it's so worth ir. John was our waiter and he was fantastic. Good vibes, music was eh but overall i would recommend this place for a perfect date night.

Yelp
This rooftop bar is a goddamn delight. Yes. The drinks are pricey. If you want cheap, go to Applebee's. The drinks are strong, the service is great and the views are divine. The rooftop is well appointed and the bathroom has the greatest view in the 5 boros. Contactless ordering is great. Reservations are easy and a must. Come drink here, it's a delight. All the stars, will come back.

Yelp
We originally booked the Henry Norman hotel for our elopement (the sister hotel) but our reservation was moved to this amazing hotel. The experience was truly 5 star. They let us check in early, they had champagne and rose petals on the bed for us. We booked our after party on the rooftop. So much fun. Everything felt incredibly safe and sanitary while also being beautiful. The front desk staff was amazing and accommodating. 10/10

Yelp
My wife and I had a wedding planned here for Aug'20. During the onset of the pandemic we were proactive with trying to make things work because we had guests flying in from Australia. With the way things turned out, we had to cancel the wedding booking but forfeit our 5k deposit due to the pandemic and guidelines from NYC. We tried to find a middle ground with the hotel however they wouldn't be understanding. Unfortunately, business profit prevails over decency here and we got none of our deposit back. I would consider this is their mindset before booking a wedding ceremony here or a stay.

Yelp
After booking the Franklin Guesthouse for my mother through Hotwire about one month in advance, my mother arrived to find that the booking would not be honored as Franklin Guesthouse was not accepting bookings for less than 30 days. We were not contacted about the inability for her to stay here nor the 30-day minimum and had no knowledge of this until we were there in the lobby. We were offered to transfer to The Box House Hotel, which is a 10-minute walk from Franklin Guesthouse and is in a much less safe area, next to a homeless shelter (in the last year, it has been increasingly less safe to walk here at night, especially for a tourist). As a result, the hotel typically runs a shuttle, but this was not offered to us at this time. Over the course of four days, Uber expenses for the travel difference between hotels was $110. This miscommunication regarding the booking was proven to primarily be the fault of Box House Hotel management and less-so Hotwire. Hotwire offered a $60 credit as compensation and The Box House Hotel did not offer any compensation for the false advertising, botched booking, or additional trouble/expense in transportation. After following up multiple times with the general manager and upper management of The Box House Hotel, we were given only excuses and combative statements which were disrespectful, unhelpful, and petty. I'm a resident of Greenpoint and I no longer trust the management of these properties nor will I be using them for hotel bookings or events any longer. I would recommend using AirBnB or the various hotel options in Williamsburg before considering a stay at any of The Box House Hotel properties.

Yelp
I don't want to come off sounding over eager, but this was one of the best hotel stays I have ever had. From the check-in to check-out, everything was above expectation and full of the kind of personality you don't find at chain hotels. First off, my partner and I had booked a standard queen room but upon arrival were offered a free upgrade to a two level loft space. "UM YES, of course we will accept this offer, we are not idiots" my we said. Our original room was lovely, but our upgrade was amazing. It featured a big living space with pull-out couch, stovetop, microwave, mini-fridge/freezer, coffee and tea making supplies, a full set of dishes/cups/flatware, two TVs, a big fully loaded bathroom, a separated bedroom upstairs from the main level, plus a terrace with a table and chairs. Legit this place was bigger than my apartment in Toronto. Sad news for the state of the Toronto rental market, yes, but happy news for the sake of the weekend. Second: the rooms themselves are so much more interesting and aesthetically pleasing than most hotels I've stayed in. Lots of bold and bright colour choices, unique pieces of artwork on nearly every wall, and cool little knick-knacks to look at. Plus random cookbooks and other reading material if you're so inclined. Third: the hotel offers a free shuttle service to and from the hotel, within a mile (or maybe its a half mile?) of the hotel. This is enough to get you to a number of the subway stations in the neighbourhood, or right into the heart of Williamsburg. Fourth: every person on staff we encountered was lovely and had an actual personality. For example we had a good laugh with the receptionist who checked us in, and got some great NYC and general life anecdotes from Christian, who is one of the hotel's drivers. Other bonuses: free storage of your luggage if you arrive before check-in or are departing the city after check-out and cool little onsite restaurant and bar where you get a two-for-one drink with stay. Next time I'm in Brooklyn, you know I'll be back at The Box House.
