The Boy & The Bear Redondo Beach - Review - Redondo Beach - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Working from the beach is a recipe for disaster: loud waves, bad sunburns, and the real possibility of sand in your keyboard. But Boy & The Bear's Redondo Beach location is a safer bet, where you can sip Colombian coffee a couple of blocks from the Redondo Pier. The space looks like a modern surf lodge with geometric rugs, exposed beams, and brown leather couches to sink into. Have a coffee with your morning meetings and maybe escape to the beach once your boss goes offline." - Sylvio Martins

The coffee here is unique where most other places are all taste very similar.. not sure if it is the beans or how they roast them but the depth of flavor and richness in the coffee is amazing. Best latte anywhere. The store is cool and there are plenty of options to sit inside or outside. Great spot to study or take a break from a busy day and chill.

Google
Quality coffee, love that they roast in house as well! The interior is very cozy and great for hanging out or doing work. We got the vanilla & caramel iced lattes with oatmilk.

Coming from living in Italy for the last 4 years, trying to find coffee that is full of flavor and made correctly was the hard. Then we stumbled across this gem and we are so happy we did. You can even purchase whole beans and have them grind it for you per how you will brew! If you are looking for delicious coffee this should be your spot every time!

Google
Cortado on point. Pretty wild a 4 oz espresso drink these days with tip is over $6. Looking forward to our Italy trip. This place is where the eccentric artsy looking pink hair kids go to be cool. Reminds me of late 90s coffee shops. Can definitely taste difference in their local roasted beans.

Google
Loved the latte! super aromatic with perfectly frothed milk. The coffee had such a rich, deep flavor. Really chill vibe and awesome staff. Totally recommend!

Google
I saw this place as I was driving to the beach and decided to stop by. It’s a small coffee shop on PCH and I love the clean minimalistic dark theme they have going on here, it fits this spot just right. The staff was friendly even recommending a few drinks that I feel were great choices. I ordered their Pumpkin spice latte. Tasted great, honestly reminded me of a pumpkin pie. This is by far the best Pumpkin spice latte that isn’t reliant on sugar to make it good.

Google
Ordered Cafe Latte and sat outside in the patio. Though it was windy, the sunshine felt so good. Latte tasted delicious, and we were happy to sip it while enjoyed the conversation. There is ample parking (street) on the side of the shop though we paid for our street parking. The restroom was huge and very clean (++). I would like to go back there to try their pastries!

Google
okay congrats!!! you guys just lost another customer, some new hire doesn’t know how to make coffee and never made coffee in their lives just ruined a simple americano, its unbelievable how you guys dont vet these people. She drenched the drink with syrup to the point youll have diabtetes and shots came out bad and watered down. I came here 3 days in a row and was like okay cool found my spot, but now im never coming back!!! I didn’t order a chocolate slurpee!!

Yelp
Drove passed by the many time and today, finally made the stop. You have to find street parking as there's no parking lot. Super hip and cozy neighborhood cafe. Read the story about the founder, immigrant from Columbia. Love the story. My daughter is a matcha latte fanatic and she ordered it. She loved it. I got the mango matcha latte, very different and it is delicious. We also shared a guava croissant. It was warmed and it has the r perfect flakiness to it! Friendly cashier , very sweet!

Yelp
Great latte and vibes Service is very friendly and the space is clean I got the latte with oat milk They also have coffee bean bags that you can buy

Yelp
At first glance you may feel it's a really hipster joint. However, the vibe is casual. All the staff members are warm and friendly. They thought my dogs were super cute and asked about them. The coffee is delicious. You can get it for "here" in a nice coffee mug. They'll take the extra time to put a little design in the foam for you. If you don't plan on staying, then get it to go. My favorite is the salted caramel but if they ever bring back that strawberry one then it's my first choice. There's milk alternatives too for my fellow lactose intolerant and vegan folks.

Yelp
Came here on Father's Day afternoon at 15:45 from Arcadia and needed strong coffee STAT! We were on or way to a concert at the Performing Arts Center in Redondo Beach and stopped here for caffeine. The coffee shop is super cute and the coffee is really good. I ordered an iced vanilla latte and I ordered a honey espresso for my sister who wasn't with us at the time. When they brought her drink out I just drank it for myself and ordered her a latte because that order came in a small dixie cup. I will say. the honey espresso was CLEAN! The flavors were bright, fruity, chocolate and not bitter at all. I enjoyed my latte and would recommend this over Starbucks. The employees were really nice too! I thought they would be annoyed that we strolled in 15 minutes before closing but one of the employees with the blonde shaved head with spots on it was genuinely nice and helped us find the performing arts center and he was also, not from the area, LOL! We never really visit Redondo Beach, but now I know where to go for good coffee in this town or even if I'm in the town over, I'd make a stop here just for the coffee, but also because the employees are really cool.

Yelp
The place is super cute and there is plenty of seating inside and outside. They have super cute merchandise too that was very tempting! The service was also fantastic! Everybody was super kind and helpful. I ordered an iced matcha latte with almond milk and honey. It wasn't bad, but it was really hard to taste that rich earthy matcha flavor unfortunately. It was a bit more on the pricey side. But other than that we had a great experience.

Yelp
First time trying the Boy and the Bear. Went to Redondo Beach. The ambiance is super trendy with a cozy, modern aesthetic that's perfect for a coffee date or getting some work done. They had very cute indoor and outdoor seatings I loved the atmosphere, and the service was really friendly too. I tried the latte and a flat white, and both were smooth, well-balanced, and clearly made with quality beans. You can tell they take their coffee seriously. I also grabbed a pistachio croissant. It looked beautiful but was honestly just okay, a little underwhelming compared to the drinks. The croissant was more bread-like and missed that flakey buttery-ness. Still, I would definitely come back for the coffee and the overall experience!

Yelp
They have awesome and flavorful coffee! The cutest vibe and the staff is super sweet. They were out of pastries unfortunately so I hope to visit again soon and try some of those!! :) Our son's name is Bear so we love the name ;)

Yelp
Good coffee and ambiance. Internet is slow. Do not order online. You're better off going in line. Takes 4x amount of time to get your coffee.

Yelp
Just popped in for a quick coffee to warm up and have a smoke good service great coffee, cool ambience it's a great spot

Yelp
My favorite post-Orange theory and yap spot. Enough seating if you're not here during rush hour. Not much space to work on a laptop, but still possible! Great place to catch up with friends. Helpful barista's. I always get the salted caramel with almond milk and reduced sweet. Always hits the spot :)

Yelp
I forgot to find out how it got its name, maybe next time. This is a nice, upscale cafe in Redondo Beach very conveniently located on the PCH. The ambience is nice, they also sell some cool bling like custom cafe shirts and cups. There is a nice patio but honestly staring at traffic is not a plus-not their fault though and a price must be paid for convenience. My vanilla latte was excellent. Alas, I am compelled to drop a star because not everyone is keen on paying $7 a cup, even for the good stuff. If you're looking for value and low prices, this is not the place. Recommended.

Yelp
Long time fan of Boy and the Bear! I've actually been here before but didn't realize I haven't reviewed it previously. Great location with plenty of street parking. Excellent espresso as always.
google avatar

Yelp
Trying out different coffee spots in the area. The ambiance is very chill. That chill also is in the service. Nice folks but take way too long to make coffee. Almost like they are so relaxed that they take their time. I don't feel it should take 15 minutes to make a mocha.
google avatar

Ali I.

Yelp
I haven't been here in over 5 years. Inside is nice if you can find a place to sit. Coffee was very disappointing. Maybe it was an off day/barista? Americano tasted like water. Like worse than McDonalds coffee. Flat white was ok. Barely had the taste of coffee and it tasted like there was disintegrated cardboard or plastic in it.
google avatar

Ashley H.

Yelp
Love going to this place as it's the original location. I always get the mocha and it's rich and delicious. Service is pretty quick. Nice ambiance to work or relax for a little bit.

Yelp
Super cute & hip cafe. They seem scientific about their coffee (which as a coffee nerd, I love) Ordered a regular latte-- it took a minute to come out, but it was a holiday & this seems to be a popular cafe. Really enjoyed the latte. Would describe it as warm, not acidic, with a bit of a mid-thin body? Notes are dark chocolate, caramel, and apple-- I definitely got the dark chocolate and apple. Very clean & a bit sweet. Definitely will be going again & might buy some beans!
google avatar

Giovanni P.

Yelp
The pistachio butter croissant was amazing. They give you the option to warm it up or as is. The service was quick and efficient and was out with my coffee in a few minutes. Indoor and outdoor seating makes it hassle free to enjoy your drink. Great calm vibes and easy to just read a book or something. Will come back
google avatar

Ethan P.

Yelp
Great spot in Redondo Beach with plenty of residential parking! The decor has a chic forest vibe that adds an elegant touch. If you read up on the cafe's story, you'll appreciate the deeper meaning behind it. The mocha latte was my favorite--perfectly warm, not too sweet, and with just the right amount of mocha flavor. Liking forward to their Gardena grand opening soon!

Yelp
I've been wanting to try The Boy & The Bear for a while now, so I finally checked it out. I got the hot chai latte, with whole milk. The worker was super sweet and she took her time to make a pretty design on the latte! It was pretty, and initially tasted good, but it has a weird aftertaste to it. It's also a bit pricy for the size that you get. Inside the place, there were a lot of cozy couches and counters. Seems like a good place to work or study. Parking is a bit tough. We had to circle around to find a place to park. There isn't a parking lot so there's only street parking. I recommend parking on Carnelian Street.
google avatar

Lauren T.

Yelp
There's only street parking here, which may be kind of difficult to find. I ordered an iced salted caramel latte & am not impressed. It was around $7 & it had an instant coffee taste. I saw her making my drink using a powder, which still left powder residue in the cup. I wonder what the powder was for. It also doesn't taste like salted caramel or of caramel either. The inside though was cute & comfy. It seems like a nice place to study! The decorations inside are really cute too.

Yelp
Came here after my run on a Saturday morning around 8 am and there were already a good amount of people sitting and enjoying their morning coffees. Interior was giving a dark minimalistic, sophisticated vibe with a very chill atmosphere. I got an iced chai latte and pistachio croissant which ended up being almost $13, which is pretty much the norm for cafes nowadays so that was no surprise. Unfortunately, I did expect more from this cafe though. First, I was expecting the typical warm spices and a balance of sweet and spicy when it came to my chai but it just tasted like straight milk as the lightness in the picture even shows. As for the pastry, my pistachio croissant was really good - croissant was buttery, crisp, and flaky however the pistachio filling to croissant ratio was just not it so that was disappointing too! I really had high hopes for this place but maybe I'll compare with other cafe locations/get something else next time.

Natalie M.

Yelp
Place isn't the same. Used to get the best vanilla latte in town here until they changed from powdered vanilla to syrup - just like every other coffee shop. Moreover, the customer service has declined and baristas typically have a smug attitude. Showed up 2 mins "early" for my mobile pickup and they made it a point to tell me I was 2 minutes early for my 9:45 pickup time. Then, he handed me my drink at 9:50. Disappointed by every recent visit in the last 6 months. Won't be going back anymore. Highly recommend subscribing to their espresso beans and making your own at home.
google avatar

Frances L.

Yelp
A nice local Coffee Roastery. You can see the coffee bean and the machine in action at the cafe. The coffee bean taste a hint of vanilla which is quite unique. But it is not to my liking for a morning bold, creamy, aromatic coffee. The cafe is jam packed with people "work from home". It is modern enough to have other other brand merchants for sale.
google avatar

Avi J.

Yelp
Nice place however the table that I chose was dirty and wobbly. Trying to figure out the WiFi network was a mystery. (Use TBTB guest, there is no TBTB there is the boy and the bear spelled out) to get the WiFi I need to enter my full name my email AND my birth of date. Really? Why? Why would like to know my age? It's personal and private information. There was no one to ask I had to put my laptop back into my backpack and go to the front to ask for whatever I needed. The manager had to fix the wobbly table. Oh yeah they had no skimmed milk and the coffee was 1 out of 10. Sun from the back was all over my laptop they had no shades. No one really cares or thinks about you. Just pay us tons of money for coffee and leave, that's the attitude. I had to throw away the coffee ($5 for small Americano, dear god) I don't know why they asked for a tip. Not ever ever ever coming back.
google avatar

Yelp
Really enjoyed this spot! The staff were very kind and helpful, wait time was not too bad, and the coffee was great. We tried the Stockholm fog with an espresso shot and oat milk. The drinks aren't cheap, but aren't unreasonably priced for the area either. Overall, a really pleasant experience!
google avatar

Alyssa O.

Yelp
Ordered the Stolkholm fog with oat milk and a shot of espresso and it was delicious! A bit overpriced, but the vibe of the coffee shop was perfect for hanging out. Would recommend.
google avatar

Allison B.

Yelp
I've never received burnt tasting espresso from this B&TB location so that's good. Don't come here if you are looking for grab & go coffee We live in the neighborhood and typically walk here but I can see how parking is challenging for some who have to compete for it The coffee beverages are pricey & their menu is pretty basic (no specialty drinks or anything unique) but the quality of the coffee is consistently good. Also their pastries are pretty good too! Aesthetic inside is kind of dark and industrial feeling. Nothing good or bad to say about the staff. The wait times can be insane. I always recommend them as the best place for coffee but definitely do not come here if you are in a rush as they are sloooooow
google avatar

Kara M.

Yelp
Wanted to love their iced matcha latte, but I don't think I've ever had such a terrible drink. I took 2 sips and that was it. The drink was a beautiful shade of green, so I thought it was going to taste delicious! I feel like I can usually judge how good a matcha latte is going to be based off the color. It tasted like vanilla and cheese, and not the good kind. The matcha was certainly not in the room with us. Perhaps their coffees are better?
google avatar

Kalyn C.

Yelp
Super cute space - big variety of pastries and coffee was tasty. However, i have to deduct a star because they charge extra for 'light ice' - okay, fair enough if that's how ya do things. But, when i got my drink it was the furthest from light ice. So i paid extra for a light ice drink and didn't even get that.

J G.

Yelp
This is, in my opinion, the preeminent coffee shop in Redondo Beach. That said, their prices are slightly high. Perhaps you get what you pay for? You'll be the judge.
google avatar

Minhee C.

Yelp
I usually get a cup of latte with oat milk (please don't judge me..it is safer than me eating milk for others lol). I prefer drip coffee over americano from here :). FYI they stop serving drip coffee around 2 (sorry don't remember exact time).
google avatar

Chris P.

Yelp
I came back to my favorite cafe in Redondo Beach. I ordered the delicious CHAI with a nice spice blend. I tried to order a butter croissant but they were sold out that morning. I was puzzled because I wanted a croissant badly. So I decided to be adventurous and try the pistachio croissant. It was amazing and now will be one of My favorite things to order going forward. Customer service was excellent like always and the laid-back vibe was great.
google avatar

Rebecca T.

Yelp
I've been going to TBATB for years now, but I've yet to review this location in the South Bay! I always order the Stockholm Fog, which is a beautiful blend of chai and mocha: sweet, creamy, and comforting goodness in a cup. It's always crowded for a good reason, yet with plenty of space to sit and work, chat, or otherwise enjoy the vibes of its third-wave, minimalist décor. There are several other locations in LA, and I can vouch they're consistently solid in quality and service!
google avatar

Amanda C.

Yelp
People definitely come here for the coffee and not the service. Can't say that they were the most welcoming group. The shop is immediately off putting due to the only very small print menu available being directly in front of the register, and the barista was already there asking what I wanted. As someone who was coming in for the first time it made the experience stressful. The coffee itself was good. I ordered an iced salted caramel latte and I can't say anything bad about it. The service was quick, but there was no line when I was there. The barista who gave me my drink didn't smile or budge an inch when I said thank you after receiving my drink. That was my last impression as I was sent out the door... Sadly I won't be going back here.
google avatar

Michael B.

Yelp
Cool place to hang out, but $8 for a vanilla latte that wasn't that tasty is just not worth it for me. Service is good with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, but the coffee is average. Plenty of other good spots to enjoy in the south bay.
google avatar

Michelle L.

Yelp
finally made it into this cute, hipster, aesthetically pleasing coffee shop! the seating inside has been thought out to maximize seating without making it feel cramped. during my visit, all the available seating inside and out were occupied, which was fine bc i was taking my drink to go i ordered their iced chai latte 5/5, it was so good, perfect blend, been craving since visit service was great and friendly the ambiance was warm, really loved all the decor even their bathroom was really cute! parking: i believe its street parking, but its plentiful

Alexis V.

Yelp
We went the other day. The atmosphere is very nice. Very cool place to chill, but when it came to our drinks, they were very subpar. My boyfriend got a iced vanilla latte. He said it taste very water down no flavor to their coffee. I had gotten a Matcha latte unfortunately I didn't get much of the Matcha taste. It just taste like milk and sugar. When I had asked for more Matcha, they were very nice enough to give it to me and not charge me for it but I feel like they shouldn't need to charge if it's made the right way in the first place. But the pastries were very good.
google avatar

Jessica S.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I visited this morning and were so pleased with our coffees! I've lived in Redondo for years and have had very little luck finding good, quality espresso but this place has it! So glad we came in!
google avatar

Adam M.

Yelp
Coffees, teas and pastries crafted with incredible care. Boy and the Bear is very proud of the relationships they've built with their suppliers in Colombia, which they explain throughout the cafe.
google avatar

Lindsay W.

Yelp
I am from out of town and I waked here from a one morning to enjoy an iced vanilla latte with oat milk. Anyone who's been to this coffee shop would agree that the ambiance is cozy, clean, simple, and perfect. I wish I lived here so I could come and enjoy this delicious morning staple every day.
google avatar

Graham M.

Yelp
I had hopes for this place considering the reviews and the relatively good neighborhood it's in. It's also gourmet and expensive so it should be great, right? Guess again! This place is average. Yes, they make espresso correctly with a long pull and you taste the effort. But there's lots of places nearby where the coffee is just as good and the service is more down to earth and friendly. I think if you're really into the technical aspects of coffee making and don't care about service or price then this place will be right up your alley. The interior is pretty nice but since it's like a minute from the casual beach life do you really want stuffy formal coffee? For my money, Klatch or Kirari West nearby are much better!
google avatar

Saphace A.

Yelp
Really cool coffee shop that I've noticed driving by a few times. We found parallel parking next to it. It's a busy place! We sat outside until spots opened to sit inside. A lot of people stay here to do work on their laptops. Their WiFi isn't too bad. At first, there was only one barista which made the queue kinda slow, until another barista came. I got a capp with oat milk while my cousin and sister got cortados. Pretty good! We sat for a while. A decent amount of plugs around.
google avatar

Jennifer W.

Yelp
1/16/23 Rounding it to a 4 simply because of the vibe, aesthetics, cool customer service & the mellow music. My oat milk latte wasn't as smooth as I'd like it to be but everything else was fairly impressive. Just left the very windy RB pier & had to grab much needed pick me up, so checked on my bookmarked areas which pointed me to The Boy & the Bear. It was closing in less than 15 minutes but there we're still some people lounging on the east going chairs & sofas. I like that there were different kinds of tables & seating, both indoors & outdoors-given how chilly & windy it was there was nobody out there, at the front or the side. Pretty cool merchandise for purchase, one tshirt I would've gotten (No cafe No Trabajo) but I've got plenty that I haven't even worn lol. Nice shop, I'd probably visit again if I'm in the area.
google avatar

Marissa M.

Yelp
I finally went to try this cafe in person and it was pretty cute. This time I chose the matcha latte and added vanilla. The matcha tasted really natural and organic and the vanilla syrup homemade and not processed. I like that it's a local business and the inside is adorable. There's no parking so you have to street park and the seating inside is pretty limited. It's a quaint little place. The only issue is the hefty prices, for the size of the cup, you're paying a lot for what you get. I believe my vanilla matcha latte was $7 which is a lot as it's not big and you can't chose sizes! Overall was pretty good, nothing crazy impressive but a cool local joint.

Yelp
Been wanting to try for some time... Coffee is quite good, not burnt tasting beans or scorched milk (you know who I'm talking about...) The guy who took our order was friendly and welcoming. Drinks took quite a while and the shop did not appear overly busy. Meanwhile, I relaxed on the leather couch and enjoyed the vibe of the place (I wondered what the building was in another life - it's cool.) I don't "coffee out" often, but I'd stop by again if I were in the neighborhood and wanted a delicious coffee. Yes, it's high-quality and worth it. 4.5 stars Oh, lost a half star due to the soap dispenser being empty in the restroom. That creeps me out because how many people rinse and roll (I'm germ averse). Luckily, I carry hand sanitizer so I was good to go.

Sony C.

Yelp
This is truly the best coffee shop. I had coffee here a few years ago, and since then, I haven't gone anywhere else. They offer such a wide variety of coffee, truly setting themselves apart and showcasing what real coffee should taste like. The staff is incredibly friendly, and each location has a clean, inviting atmosphere that makes you want to sit down and enjoy your coffee. With multiple locations in different areas, you definitely need to give this place a try!
google avatar

Natalie G.

Yelp
i've been craving a good matcha all week so finally i caved in and got one here, with oat milk, and added vanilla... it was $10 total which makes it the 2nd most expensive matcha i've ever gotten. now idk if it's the vanilla they added but that drink tasted NOTHING like matcha. it tasted like the birthday cake pop from starbucks. im still craving a matcha anyway it is cute in there, lots of room for people to do work and the employees were very friendly and sweet so they got that going and i'm sure other of their drinks are good i just won't be going back for a matcha ever again.

Yelp
Love this place! The food is absolutely scrumptious. And I love the fancy pour over serving ware. This is definitely an experience. I highly recommend.
