The Boy & The Bear Redondo Beach - Review - Redondo Beach - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Working from the beach is a recipe for disaster: loud waves, bad sunburns, and the real possibility of sand in your keyboard. But Boy & The Bear's Redondo Beach location is a safer bet, where you can sip Colombian coffee a couple of blocks from the Redondo Pier. The space looks like a modern surf lodge with geometric rugs, exposed beams, and brown leather couches to sink into. Have a coffee with your morning meetings and maybe escape to the beach once your boss goes offline." - Sylvio Martins

The coffee here is unique where most other places are all taste very similar.. not sure if it is the beans or how they roast them but the depth of flavor and richness in the coffee is amazing. Best latte anywhere. The store is cool and there are plenty of options to sit inside or outside. Great spot to study or take a break from a busy day and chill.

Google
My fav fav coffee shop in this area! Excellent coffee! Excellent beans!! It is a little pricy but I feel it’s worth it. I always use there beans for my coffee. It’s always freshly roasted and flavorful. The place has good atmosphere, seating arrangements too. Must try coffee shop when in Torrance/Redondo area

Google
I’m a fan. My Chai Latte was tasty and my pastry delicious. Everyone was friendly and the atmosphere was very relaxed.

Google
Quality coffee, love that they roast in house as well! The interior is very cozy and great for hanging out or doing work. We got the vanilla & caramel iced lattes with oatmilk.

Google
Coming from living in Italy for the last 4 years, trying to find coffee that is full of flavor and made correctly was the hard. Then we stumbled across this gem and we are so happy we did. You can even purchase whole beans and have them grind it for you per how you will brew! If you are looking for delicious coffee this should be your spot every time!

Angelinos A.

Google
Loved the latte! super aromatic with perfectly frothed milk. The coffee had such a rich, deep flavor. Really chill vibe and awesome staff. Totally recommend!

Google
I saw this place as I was driving to the beach and decided to stop by. It’s a small coffee shop on PCH and I love the clean minimalistic dark theme they have going on here, it fits this spot just right. The staff was friendly even recommending a few drinks that I feel were great choices. I ordered their Pumpkin spice latte. Tasted great, honestly reminded me of a pumpkin pie. This is by far the best Pumpkin spice latte that isn’t reliant on sugar to make it good.

Google
Caramel latte half sweet as recommended by guy at the counter as I was skeptical about it being too sweet. He said they can make it sweeter or more caramel if I want it later but it was actually perfect. Great vibes just took some time for the order there were many people. Nice and bright patio

Yelp
I have always wanted to come here and so happy we finally stopped by. Street parking can fill up pretty quick on weekend mornings since it is in the heart of a beach city. Our cashier/barista, was pretty cool and chatted us up. She was able to recommend us on the most popular drinks and since she built trust, we went with her word. Boy, was she right, our selections were delicious (Latte and Americano). Plus, they use beans from Colombia, which was a plus. Inside the coffee shop, there was plenty of seating available (inside and outside), especially for bigger groups. The shop was clean and had a strong coffee aroma, which was my favorite. It had a relaxing and carefree zone for anyone looking to enjoy a great coffee in the morning, or for remote work. I will definitely be back because I loved their coffee and can't wait to try more from the menu, especially the pastries.

Yelp
So good we went twice in a row! We ordered kids hot chocolate, iced vanilla latte and an americano with an extra shot. All were delicious! We also ordered pastries which were equally as delicious. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Came here because I heard they were some of the best coffee in Torrance/Redondo Beach area. Really enjoyed my cup here, and think it does have some of the better coffee in the area so if you love espresso definitely check this place out! I would put it in the "Great" coffee category. If you live in the area or are visiting, definitely add it to your worth trying list. This place has been around for a while, and my friend who lives nearby also regards this place pretty highly, so I'm hoping they continue to see tons of success! Good job Boy and the Bear, and keep it up! Will be sure to pay you another visit soon :)

Yelp
This food was amazing 5/5 I would recommend Service was fast and staff were chill and respectful

Yelp
The Girl And The Hair The slob who served us was a mess. We found a big chunk of her hair in our pastry bag. Then they told my wife not to have cream in her coffee because, I guess, they think it's so good. A true Snobatorium
google avatar

Yelp
The Boy & The Bear is one of our favorite coffee shops in the South Bay. Our drinks are always perfection. Sometimes it takes a bit to get our coffees but we see it as good things take time.

Yelp
Obsessed with The Black Store! I'd rather head to this location instead of the one up the street from my house because it's the perfect size with indoor and outdoor seating, relaxing vibe and the esthetic is sexy. I'll be returning as often as possible. I wish they stayed open later.
google avatar

Yelp
This is definitely a place for true coffee enthusiasts. I haven't tried their flavored drinks or desserts yet, but if you want to experience coffee at its peak, with distinct flavors and tasting notes, this is the spot. They do an excellent job explaining each bean they serve from the origin and process to the expected flavor profile -- and they guide you on the proper technique for drinking espresso shots to get the most out of the experience. It's difficult to find a place where the focus is so strongly on the craft of coffee itself, and they deliver it in an approachable and knowledgeable way. I usually feel embarrassed asking how a specific coffee bean will smell but here they make it welcoming. They even offer a small batch to smell so you can experience their signature taste, which makes it easy to connect the aromas with what you'll taste in the cup.

Yelp
Drove passed by the many time and today, finally made the stop. You have to find street parking as there's no parking lot. Super hip and cozy neighborhood cafe. Read the story about the founder, immigrant from Columbia. Love the story. My daughter is a matcha latte fanatic and she ordered it. She loved it. I got the mango matcha latte, very different and it is delicious. We also shared a guava croissant. It was warmed and it has the r perfect flakiness to it! Friendly cashier , very sweet!
google avatar

Yelp
stopped by a couple of times in the past and the coffee is good. My grip is that I finally ordered thru their website and found it without ALL disclosures when signing up. As you submit your first order, they welcome you to 20% off your first "order". I didn't see or receive the 20% on my order on the receipt. I kindly asked the person at the counter behind the cash register if I had missed a step when registering and placing my first order. It turns out that the "20%" is off their merchandise shelves selling coffee mugs, shirts and alike. Very MISLEADING and not giving full disclosure at all.

Yelp
The space is nice and has a lot of seating. We ordered the sparkling Americano. It's interesting. It was smooth and the sparkling coffee was different. Server was friendly. I can't reconcile in my mind if the experience is serious or gimmicky. But it was overall good.
google avatar

Jeff R.

Yelp
Nice little place to get a cup and hang out. Good music today... a mix of 90s alternative and other toe tapping tunes. Good vibe here. Wish they would close the doors and turn on the A.C. though.

Yelp
First time trying the Boy and the Bear. Went to Redondo Beach. The ambiance is super trendy with a cozy, modern aesthetic that's perfect for a coffee date or getting some work done. They had very cute indoor and outdoor seatings I loved the atmosphere, and the service was really friendly too. I tried the latte and a flat white, and both were smooth, well-balanced, and clearly made with quality beans. You can tell they take their coffee seriously. I also grabbed a pistachio croissant. It looked beautiful but was honestly just okay, a little underwhelming compared to the drinks. The croissant was more bread-like and missed that flakey buttery-ness. Still, I would definitely come back for the coffee and the overall experience!

Yelp
Long time fan of Boy and the Bear! I've actually been here before but didn't realize I haven't reviewed it previously. Great location with plenty of street parking. Excellent espresso as always.
google avatar

Ella E.

Yelp
I am a coffee snob. I got 2 espresso shots and they were so smooth. I saw a cortado and it was beautiful as well. I love this place. Great free WiFi. Football replay for the win.

Monica J.

Yelp
My favorite coffee shop! I'll hang out here for hours working or chatting with friends. I always get an iced salted caramel latte.

Yelp
Came here on Father's Day afternoon at 15:45 from Arcadia and needed strong coffee STAT! We were on or way to a concert at the Performing Arts Center in Redondo Beach and stopped here for caffeine. The coffee shop is super cute and the coffee is really good. I ordered an iced vanilla latte and I ordered a honey espresso for my sister who wasn't with us at the time. When they brought her drink out I just drank it for myself and ordered her a latte because that order came in a small dixie cup. I will say. the honey espresso was CLEAN! The flavors were bright, fruity, chocolate and not bitter at all. I enjoyed my latte and would recommend this over Starbucks. The employees were really nice too! I thought they would be annoyed that we strolled in 15 minutes before closing but one of the employees with the blonde shaved head with spots on it was genuinely nice and helped us find the performing arts center and he was also, not from the area, LOL! We never really visit Redondo Beach, but now I know where to go for good coffee in this town or even if I'm in the town over, I'd make a stop here just for the coffee, but also because the employees are really cool.

Yelp
I haven't been here in over 5 years. Inside is nice if you can find a place to sit. Coffee was very disappointing. Maybe it was an off day/barista? Americano tasted like water. Like worse than McDonalds coffee. Flat white was ok. Barely had the taste of coffee and it tasted like there was disintegrated cardboard or plastic in it.
google avatar

Miriam F.

Yelp
I wasn't too impressed with this place, honestly. I ordered the Stockholm Fog with espresso, which was a blend of chai and mocha. I think the total was $11, which felt pretty overpriced, since a super fancy Starbucks drink costs 7 to 8 dollars. I ended up bringing my drink back over, and asked if there is something else that they could do. The barista (I think his name was Pierce?) was super kind about it and made me an oat milk vanilla iced latte, which was great. While the barista was friendly, given the overpriced nature of the drinks, and the fact that the specialty drinks didn't really wow me, I don't think I would return. I did see that this place offers, coffee workshop classes, which is a cool concept. Pretty pricey, but creative. There's some good seating in this café, and mostly seem to be for people who are working on their laptops. I do like the ambience of this café --- it gives me industrial / artsy Café vibes.
google avatar

Amanda K.

Yelp
They have awesome and flavorful coffee! The cutest vibe and the staff is super sweet. They were out of pastries unfortunately so I hope to visit again soon and try some of those!! :) Our son's name is Bear so we love the name ;)
google avatar

Yelp
Love going to this place as it's the original location. I always get the mocha and it's rich and delicious. Service is pretty quick. Nice ambiance to work or relax for a little bit.
google avatar

Sahar R.

Yelp
My favorite post-Orange theory and yap spot. Enough seating if you're not here during rush hour. Not much space to work on a laptop, but still possible! Great place to catch up with friends. Helpful barista's. I always get the salted caramel with almond milk and reduced sweet. Always hits the spot :)
google avatar

Eden C.

Yelp
Super cute & hip cafe. They seem scientific about their coffee (which as a coffee nerd, I love) Ordered a regular latte-- it took a minute to come out, but it was a holiday & this seems to be a popular cafe. Really enjoyed the latte. Would describe it as warm, not acidic, with a bit of a mid-thin body? Notes are dark chocolate, caramel, and apple-- I definitely got the dark chocolate and apple. Very clean & a bit sweet. Definitely will be going again & might buy some beans!
google avatar

Danielle F.

Yelp
The place is super cute and there is plenty of seating inside and outside. They have super cute merchandise too that was very tempting! The service was also fantastic! Everybody was super kind and helpful. I ordered an iced matcha latte with almond milk and honey. It wasn't bad, but it was really hard to taste that rich earthy matcha flavor unfortunately. It was a bit more on the pricey side. But other than that we had a great experience.

Yelp
I forgot to find out how it got its name, maybe next time. This is a nice, upscale cafe in Redondo Beach very conveniently located on the PCH. The ambience is nice, they also sell some cool bling like custom cafe shirts and cups. There is a nice patio but honestly staring at traffic is not a plus-not their fault though and a price must be paid for convenience. My vanilla latte was excellent. Alas, I am compelled to drop a star because not everyone is keen on paying $7 a cup, even for the good stuff. If you're looking for value and low prices, this is not the place. Recommended.

Yelp
Just popped in for a quick coffee to warm up and have a smoke good service great coffee, cool ambience it's a great spot
google avatar

Yelp
Great latte and vibes Service is very friendly and the space is clean I got the latte with oat milk They also have coffee bean bags that you can buy
google avatar

Ethan P.

Yelp
Great spot in Redondo Beach with plenty of residential parking! The decor has a chic forest vibe that adds an elegant touch. If you read up on the cafe's story, you'll appreciate the deeper meaning behind it. The mocha latte was my favorite--perfectly warm, not too sweet, and with just the right amount of mocha flavor. Liking forward to their Gardena grand opening soon!
google avatar

LeAnn G.

Yelp
Quick and friendly service! They have a nice variety of delicious coffees and treats in an inviting, cozy environment. Great place to grab a cup and go, or to hang out and relax for a while!

LAgirl D.

Yelp
I ordered a croissant and 2 chocolate milks for kids. They made hot chocolates by mistake, which is fine but it was super cold? Not sure if they know how to make hot chocolates but the croissant was great. I asked them to heat it up and they did accommodate.
google avatar

Adrian S.

Yelp
Good study spot. They have good wifi and a decent amount of seating. It fills up quickly though so be sure to get here early for it. The ambiance of the store is good, I got an iced americano and it tasted great.

Angie A.

Yelp
I absolutely loved the sparkling Americano, it's my new favorite drink. Their emerald series espresso and chocolate croissant were good too. I also enjoyed the environment and the staff were all very friendly, I def will be back.
google avatar

Michael N.

Yelp
Trying out different coffee spots in the area. The ambiance is very chill. That chill also is in the service. Nice folks but take way too long to make coffee. Almost like they are so relaxed that they take their time. I don't feel it should take 15 minutes to make a mocha.
google avatar

Heks O.

Yelp
At first glance you may feel it's a really hipster joint. However, the vibe is casual. All the staff members are warm and friendly. They thought my dogs were super cute and asked about them. The coffee is delicious. You can get it for "here" in a nice coffee mug. They'll take the extra time to put a little design in the foam for you. If you don't plan on staying, then get it to go. My favorite is the salted caramel but if they ever bring back that strawberry one then it's my first choice. There's milk alternatives too for my fellow lactose intolerant and vegan folks.

Talia M.

Yelp
So sad to make this review but my husband went here and did not have the best experience. He is a person of color and said he felt very very racially disrespected by the workers and also people there. Who gave him dirty looks He felt he was treated very differently than some of the other people & had a horrible experience. We did give it another try but again, did not feel welcomed and the drinks were not good. There are much better inclusive coffee shops near by.
google avatar

John F.

Yelp
Really enjoyed this spot! The staff were very kind and helpful, wait time was not too bad, and the coffee was great. We tried the Stockholm fog with an espresso shot and oat milk. The drinks aren't cheap, but aren't unreasonably priced for the area either. Overall, a really pleasant experience!
google avatar

Alyssa O.

Yelp
Ordered the Stolkholm fog with oat milk and a shot of espresso and it was delicious! A bit overpriced, but the vibe of the coffee shop was perfect for hanging out. Would recommend.
google avatar

Allison B.

Yelp
I've never received burnt tasting espresso from this B&TB location so that's good. Don't come here if you are looking for grab & go coffee We live in the neighborhood and typically walk here but I can see how parking is challenging for some who have to compete for it The coffee beverages are pricey & their menu is pretty basic (no specialty drinks or anything unique) but the quality of the coffee is consistently good. Also their pastries are pretty good too! Aesthetic inside is kind of dark and industrial feeling. Nothing good or bad to say about the staff. The wait times can be insane. I always recommend them as the best place for coffee but definitely do not come here if you are in a rush as they are sloooooow
google avatar

Kara M.

Yelp
Wanted to love their iced matcha latte, but I don't think I've ever had such a terrible drink. I took 2 sips and that was it. The drink was a beautiful shade of green, so I thought it was going to taste delicious! I feel like I can usually judge how good a matcha latte is going to be based off the color. It tasted like vanilla and cheese, and not the good kind. The matcha was certainly not in the room with us. Perhaps their coffees are better?
google avatar

Jennifer W.

Yelp
1/16/23 Rounding it to a 4 simply because of the vibe, aesthetics, cool customer service & the mellow music. My oat milk latte wasn't as smooth as I'd like it to be but everything else was fairly impressive. Just left the very windy RB pier & had to grab much needed pick me up, so checked on my bookmarked areas which pointed me to The Boy & the Bear. It was closing in less than 15 minutes but there we're still some people lounging on the east going chairs & sofas. I like that there were different kinds of tables & seating, both indoors & outdoors-given how chilly & windy it was there was nobody out there, at the front or the side. Pretty cool merchandise for purchase, one tshirt I would've gotten (No cafe No Trabajo) but I've got plenty that I haven't even worn lol. Nice shop, I'd probably visit again if I'm in the area.
google avatar

Minhee C.

Yelp
I usually get a cup of latte with oat milk (please don't judge me..it is safer than me eating milk for others lol). I prefer drip coffee over americano from here :). FYI they stop serving drip coffee around 2 (sorry don't remember exact time).
google avatar

Erin T.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try The Boy & The Bear for a while now, so I finally checked it out. I got the hot chai latte, with whole milk. The worker was super sweet and she took her time to make a pretty design on the latte! It was pretty, and initially tasted good, but it has a weird aftertaste to it. It's also a bit pricy for the size that you get. Inside the place, there were a lot of cozy couches and counters. Seems like a good place to work or study. Parking is a bit tough. We had to circle around to find a place to park. There isn't a parking lot so there's only street parking. I recommend parking on Carnelian Street.
google avatar

Lauren T.

Yelp
There's only street parking here, which may be kind of difficult to find. I ordered an iced salted caramel latte & am not impressed. It was around $7 & it had an instant coffee taste. I saw her making my drink using a powder, which still left powder residue in the cup. I wonder what the powder was for. It also doesn't taste like salted caramel or of caramel either. The inside though was cute & comfy. It seems like a nice place to study! The decorations inside are really cute too.

Bob S.

Yelp
Great service! Awesome chai. It is also attached to a super cute vintage furniture store. Definitely going back.
google avatar

Patrick L.

Yelp
Been wanting to try for some time... Coffee is quite good, not burnt tasting beans or scorched milk (you know who I'm talking about...) The guy who took our order was friendly and welcoming. Drinks took quite a while and the shop did not appear overly busy. Meanwhile, I relaxed on the leather couch and enjoyed the vibe of the place (I wondered what the building was in another life - it's cool.) I don't "coffee out" often, but I'd stop by again if I were in the neighborhood and wanted a delicious coffee. Yes, it's high-quality and worth it. 4.5 stars Oh, lost a half star due to the soap dispenser being empty in the restroom. That creeps me out because how many people rinse and roll (I'm germ averse). Luckily, I carry hand sanitizer so I was good to go.
google avatar

Giovanni P.

Yelp
The pistachio butter croissant was amazing. They give you the option to warm it up or as is. The service was quick and efficient and was out with my coffee in a few minutes. Indoor and outdoor seating makes it hassle free to enjoy your drink. Great calm vibes and easy to just read a book or something. Will come back
google avatar

Sharmaine A.

Yelp
Came here after my run on a Saturday morning around 8 am and there were already a good amount of people sitting and enjoying their morning coffees. Interior was giving a dark minimalistic, sophisticated vibe with a very chill atmosphere. I got an iced chai latte and pistachio croissant which ended up being almost $13, which is pretty much the norm for cafes nowadays so that was no surprise. Unfortunately, I did expect more from this cafe though. First, I was expecting the typical warm spices and a balance of sweet and spicy when it came to my chai but it just tasted like straight milk as the lightness in the picture even shows. As for the pastry, my pistachio croissant was really good - croissant was buttery, crisp, and flaky however the pistachio filling to croissant ratio was just not it so that was disappointing too! I really had high hopes for this place but maybe I'll compare with other cafe locations/get something else next time.

Elizabeth I.

Yelp
Vanilla latte was pretty good. It was not too sweet, and you could definitely taste the coffee flavor.
