We had a good meal with rough service here on a somewhat uncrowded Friday night for dinner.
To start off, three happy hour drinks, 1 appetizer, and 2 entrees came to just under $100 -- the caveat being that one of the entrees was the steak frites, although the fried shrimp (which had no side dish) was a rather costly $21, too.
We started off with the hush puppies, which were the dinner's food highlight! They came out pretty quickly -- beating our first round of drinks (there was only one bartender, and almost every table was ordering drinks due to it being Happy Hour) -- and were seasoned and cooked well. It was a hearty serving size of 7, too.
"Hearty" portions were the theme of the night. I ordered the shrimp "banh mi", while my husband got the aforementioned steak frites. The shrimp were fried and coated in a sweeter sauce and served on top of coleslaw. Two herbed rolls were served on the side alongside pickles and mayo. The shrimp were great, but the serving size was HUGE -- I think there were nearly 20 on my plate? The slaw was great, too. The rolls, surprisingly, were just OK. They were a type of herbed dinner roll and a bit on the dry side. My husband ordered his steak without the sauce and thought that was likely the reason it tasted a bit underseasoned but said the sear and temperature were great.
We also enjoyed the martini-style drinks for Happy Hour. Their Mai Tai-esque one was a particular standout.
The big issue was service. Our server was friendly, but he basically disappeared after our first round of drinks arrived. A different server brought our entrees, and we had to flag down another one after we'd be done with our meals for 15 minutes to request the check. She not only brought us the check but ended up running it for us, too. We only saw our server again when he came over upon seeing her deliver the card back to us. Not sure what happened there.
Overall, it's a little pricier than I expected for dinner, but I'll definitely keep it in mind the next time I'm downtown.
