"At the Brew Coop, a new taproom at 819 Valencia Street, there’s no waiting around for the bartender to get you a beer: Just walk up to the back wall, where 26 taps await, and pour your own. The new sports bar, which has been quietly serving customers for a few days, was inspired by owner Gore Song’s experience with self-pour systems in Europe. [...] Drinkers in the 800-square-foot space (a former Osha Thai location) won’t have to play chef on top of bartender: Tim Luym (previously of Buffalo Theory) and Ronnie Taylor (of Alchemy) have that covered. They’re serving a menu of bar food that includes tacos, garlic fries, and lots of chicken, including nuggets, fried chicken, and Luym’s popular adobo wings. The crowd at the Brew Coop is welcome to entertain themselves, or to watch seven 65-inch screens. They’re tuned mostly to sports — though the Brew Coop is considering a Bachelor watching party, too. The Brew Coop is open Monday to Friday from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m., and weekends from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m." - Caleb Pershan

"Lovers of Buffalo Theory’s garlic crab noodles and adobo chicken wings needn’t mope for long, either: Tim Luym, who opened the Polk Street pub with Ted Kim (Steins Beer Garden & Restaurant in Mountain View), has signed on to cook at a new beer-focused project in the Mission. He’ll be in charge of the menu at the Brew Coop, a pour-it-yourself taproom coming to 819 Valencia Street." - Caleb Pershan

This bar is awesome! They give you an RFID card when you walk in so that you can scan it and pour your own beer. You’re charged for the amount that you pour, whether it’s one ounce or ten ounces. It’s also a great place to watch games since there are plenty of flat screen TVs.

See Lawrence, he know what's up and has fantastic taste. Finally SF we have our own Pour Your Own Beer place!! It rocks! Also massive bonus points for the mostly chicken based menu and amazingly cool Star Wars Fan stuff everywhere. See wall near kitchen and first restroom.

This is a very fun place! My mom stumbled across it while reading the paper. We thought the concept would be interesting to try. We came around 12pm on Sunday and there were very few people here. We ordered the sliders, garlic fries, and chicken quesadilla. We tried a couple of their beers. I really liked the horchata beer. To get the self-serve beer, you leave your card at the front and get their brew coop card. You place the card to the tap you want to try and pour. At the end, you bring their card back and they charge the total. I would definitely come back with my friends and try their other beers. They also had wine and sake! There were also some board games so it would be a pretty cool place to hang out.

Been coming here since their first Tuesday Trivia night’s and it’s always been an absolute blast! The trivia master does a great job making trivia questions that always feel pretty inclusive and never too niche. The beer selection at Brew Coop is also pretty top notch and a wonderfully executed concept. We come once a week and there’s usually always a few new beers on tap. Since it’s self serve you can always pour however much you want which is awesome for me as someone who doesn’t drink too much - I’ll typically try 2-4 beers doing third to half pours for each and it’ll come out to maybe $10-15. Finally, owner is a fellow Berkeley Bear! Go beers! 🐻

Awesome beer spot- you get a card, and pour yourself your own beer, and are charged by the ounce. The food is good too! A new favorite on Valencia

After a long day at Dolores Park, The Brew Coop was the perfect spot for our group to chill while still continuing the fun. They’ve got a great variety of beers and the easy to use self pour system allows you to try them all in order to find your new favorite. The staff was very friendly and helpful and our food came out super fast. It was delicious too! The tables were big enough for 9 of us and everyone had a great time. The big TVs were also perfect for catching the end of multiple games. Definitely recommend and can’t wait to come back soon.

Awesome social bar with pour it yourself taps and large communal sitting for easy mingling between friends and strangers alike. Table games are available, or you can bring your own. Good selection of craft beers, with some wine and kombucha. Food is high quality too. It is standard bar fare - wings, burgers, fries etc. - but not the dried out stuff you often see in small bars.

What a novel idea! I loved hanging out at The Brew Coop last night. I was able to try out 5 different beers -- highly recommend the milkshake IPA if it's on tap! -- and catch some of the NBA playoffs. They also have themed nights (Tues = Trivia night, Sun = GoT, etc.) and a nice assortment of free board games. The staff was really friendly and accommodating. I'd recommend this spot if you want to try some unique beers and want to have a fun night out with your friends.
