One of the best bars in DC and definitely the best in the neighborhood. No better place to bring your dog to watch sports or grab a beer with friends. They can stream sports, too, and they are always willing to flip TVs if you ask. They also show a ton of soccer matches. Great vibe, people, and food, especially the pizza. Some people complain about the QR code to order, but you literally get your drink order in less than 2 mins. Very efficient. Love this place. A DC gem.

Fantastic place for anyone looking to enjoy a great beer, and good food in a dog-friendly setting. As dogs are not just allowed but celebrated here with multiple water bowls are readily available, and staff are quick to offer dog treats to every furry friend! Multiple tvs to enjoy all the various sporting events, and specials to go along with the games!

A great spot, best place to be on a gorgeous day — boys watch baseball, I read. And service is excellent (Kalani is the best) Not to mention the pizza is bomb 🍕💯🔥& super underrated in my opinion. Meatlover is our favorite.

Cannot say enough good things about the Brig. Staff go above and beyond to make you feel at home and the vibe (and the pizza!) are exactly what you’d want in a beer garden. Gem of the Hill! Love that they are dog friendly, too.

We had an awesome time!! We were visiting Washington and were looking for a place to watch the Stanley Cup final and came across the brig. The atmosphere was awesome, great variety of beers and drinks, we loved the outside seating and Warren our barkeeper made our great experience just perfect!! Many thanks and will be back when we are in the area!!

Great for post work get together. Quick orders online allowed for never having to flag down a server and easy paying. Awesome outside seating reminded me of a true German beer garden!

I checked in on Yelp and asked if I could redeem the 15% check-in offer, and I never could have predicted that simply trying to place an order with an offer that the business’s active Yelp page is promoting would lead to being verbally harassed and yelled at condescendingly by the manager on duty, who was not aware of the Yelp check-in offer but offered no solutions Ans instead went the route of blaming the customer and taking her frustration (from something else perhaps?) out on me, an eager-to-order customer who didn’t want any trouble, but was instead lectured rudely about how little I know about how the F&B industry works, despite having worked at a three-Michelin-starred restaurant, and very much being knowledgeable about the field. After being shouted at several times for no reason, I swallowed my pride and left, and I will certainly never return, which is a shame because this all could have been avoided by simply honoring the 15% off offer that The Brig had on their business page.

This review is well overdue. We LOVE the brig! The highlight of our experience with this awesome bar was a special event (50+ people) that they arranged for us on short notice. Clifton was so responsive and attentive to everything we needed to host a great party. This is such an awesome place to kick it with friends, family, and neighbors in Southeast DC. Can't wait to see everybody there soon (pro tip try the buffalo chicken dip)!

A group of friends and I went out for the first time since moving here. All of Old Town is popular on the weekend and just the right kind, not too packed. Same for inside the Brig! Seemed to have a good crowd mix of upper 20s, 30s, and some 40s. Our server was great. I changed up my second drink for the night per his recommendation and it was exactly what I was looking for. The Pear Martini tasted exactly like pear so I needed something less sweet. I believe it was a spritz cocktail of some sort. The group shared a pretzel, which was perfection. If you're wondering how many people can split it based on its size... I'd get 2 for our group of 5 men and 2 women. I have to call out the band though. Climb On was on set and they set the bar pretty high for our first night out in Alexandria. Amazing set list of rock/alternative and recent pop hits, and really pumped up the whole side of the restaurant. The Brig Beergarden knows what's up!

Family-friendly bar restaurant with plenty of outdoor seating and TVs for game watching. I didn't try the food menu but stuck to my cider. Menu is via QR code scanning. Service is limited as far as I could tell.

Family, dog and kid friendly. Great outdoor beer garden. Warren the GM is so accommodating and has really done some great things for this place. Prices are good and the food is good as well which you don't always get so I can appreciate it. A lot of TVs so perfect for game days!

I always have a great time here! Nice beer garden to watch all the sports! They have a lot of tvs, the food is great, the service is even better and it just feels so comfortable! Fans when it's hot, heaters and enclosures when it's cold, umbrellas t block the sun... or rain, tons of seating and great vibes! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Excellent spot for beers and sports, good ambience too. Gets overlooked in the colder months but it's warm inside, the big fans giving it a homely feel.

I've been here numerous times but the last few times I've come before Nationals games. I like the QR ordering system; everything you order comes out quickly. One of the servers also brought out a water dish for my dog which was nice. For food, the happy hour wings and the large pretzel were so good! The pretzel bites however were burned so don't get those. I also got the chicken BLT with fries but there was no lettuce! And the fries were ultimately too salty.

Good selection of beer, their own beer in particular. You can order and pay online, which is handy. it seems like there are just outdoor seats. You can get some discount if you register on their website and also for the first check-in on Yelp!

Great place! Devon was awesome definitely looked out for me and party! Come by and bring your friends here!!! The location is very family oriented and they will take care of you respectfully. SHOUT TO DEVON!! You the man!

Fantastic place to come for a beer, conversation, watching sports and hanging out. Comfortable and casual outdoor seating. The only reason why I'm giving 3 stars instead of 4 or even 5 is because the menus are completely touchless, so the entire transaction or making a selection, scrolling through the menu and figuring out what's what, paying, ordering more items, it's all done by your cell phone. So the servers don't approach you initially like a traditional bar or restaurant. A person like me, I have questions so you're sort of on your own to figure things out. I would go back. Hanging out with friends and good company over beer is always a win-win.

The food is typical bar food, but it is a blast to come on LAU game nights and cheer loud and proud. You use we codes to order based on your seat location.

I stopped here briefly before a dinner just to pass time, but that was enough for me to gather how cool of a spot it is! It's a few blocks past the primary area of Eastern Market, so unless you know it's there, you may not go. There's plenty of seating inside and out, and it appears to be dog friendly for the puppy owners. I sat at one of the many available seats at the bar, and instead of menus, I got a QR code! This may be inconvenient for some, but I am personally a big fan. I was surprised to see how much food there was to choose from -- though I wasn't eating. I got a beer (I forgot which) and a glass of pinot grigio, quite good! There were TVs and overall it just seemed like a cool environment. Maybe it was because of the time, but compared to other beer gardens, this one seemed more chill, and I appreciated that.

A lot of hate for the QR code ordering from other reviews, but my 2 cents is I much prefer this approach. Every time I come I get much faster service via this method vs. traditional ordering at other bars. No waiting to order, no waiting to close out. The food here is so-so bar food. Hit or miss but it will tide you over before heading to a restaurant afterwards. Overall fun vibe where dogs are abundant and plenty of games to watch.

We hosted a happy hour at the brig -- and had such a great time! Clifton was a breeze to work with; once we confirmed our event date, we paid a deposit that went straight to food orders day-of. We arrived a bit early and found that the tented area had been roped off as reserved--it was the perfect space for nearly 50 guests that came and went over the course of 3hrs. Food was delicious, bar as easy to mobile order from with options for every palate. We will definitely be back!

I don't think I've ever been disappointed here! Whether seated indoors or outdoors, the service is great! Game days are PACKED!! So be sure to get here early to secure seats. You can order from your table via a QR code, with many options to choose from. Their boardwalk fries are so good, the vinegar mixed with old bay is just the right amount of seasoning. Drinks are moderately priced and there's a wide variety to choose from. There are tons of TVs to view when seated at the bar or on the benches. Check it out if you're in the Navy Yard/Eastern Market area and are looking to catch a game or two!

Great beer garden! I've been quite a few times and can't believe I hadn't left a review yet...so here it goes... Things I like about the Brig are as follows: 1. They are dog friendly! Like super dog friendly! As soon as you walk in with your pup, someone is already on the way with a water bowl and a treat for the dogs. They even have a puppy menu that includes training treats! While I've never actually ordered the treats...I may or may not regularly order my pup a plain grilled chicken breast with no seasoning so he too can enjoy a nice meal. Hoping they add puppy beer to the menu...::wink wink:: 2. The staff is always really great. Imma sucker for good service and Everyone is always super friendly, attentive and on it! Even when it's super crowded. The food and beer always come out quick regardless of how crowded it is and there's someone there to grab your items when you're done. Chef's kiss! 3. The place is super cute with tons of seating and usually a good playlist in the background. they can get crowded (especially now that the city is opened back up) on a Friday or Saturday evening if the weather is good but I can usually find a spot at the bar so no issues there. There's also a covered section, they have heaters when it's cold outside and some fans when it's super hot. 4. The food is mostly pretty good and the beer selection is pretty extensive. You have your standard bar food with a few extra items on there. I like the beyond burger, the FRIES (so good) and the grilled wings. Those are normally my go-tos here. My friends have tried other items but I stick to what I know. They also have good mock tails! You tell the bar tender what you're going for...and they will whip something up for you. 5. I love their ordering process post pandemic! They use the QR code system and it is sooo efficient. You sit down; scan the code on the table, order your food and a few minutes later...you've got food and/or drinks on the way. I probably pop into the brig at least once a week, especially after tiring my pups out at the nearby dog park. I love that it's dog friendly. I love that it's conveniently located. There's normally parking in the neighborhood. Great beer selection, good food and overall good people!

I will say the prices are comparable to the market, eat elsewhere. However, the ladies bathroom is so horrible I will never visit the establishment again. Just horrible and the smell was gross, the floors were sticky with urine and walls in the stalls were stained.

Service was great, food was good especially considering they took us close to closing. You order and pay with the QR code then they bring it to your table. We had a pretzel (was huge), turkey burger (well seasoned) and a burger. Potato salad was really good just needed a pinch of salt (and was perfect) Nice atmosphere, Plenty of TVs if you're looking to watch a Nats Game.

Really fun first time at the Brig. Came for a friends surprise bday and they were able to reserve a table. Large umbrellas/covered tables and dog friendly. You order through an app assigned to the table, and service was surprisingly fast. The place was pretty busy and packed, but the servers were nice and attentive. The orange crush was delicious and the giant pretzel was good although it wasn't warm. The cheese was more of a queso and the spicy mustard was good with a kick. Overall great time.

This is a fun place for the outdoor beer garden feel. Typical bar food. Lots of outdoor seating. Ordering is online and then delivered by the waitstaff. I'd say close enough for the 8 block walk to Nats Stadium. It is also on the Southern edge of the 8th St Barracks Row corridor. Lots of parking in a lot under 395 on 8th (free on Sunday) and on the street around the site. Great location for a fun outdoor outing.

Getting in this place is a mess. With very little Information on their website. Host is terrible. I rarely ever make a statement like that. Inside: The servers are decent and their covid precautions are some of the best I have seen in DC. But not organized getting in the door. Myself and a buddy walked in asked if we could be seated on a Friday night. We walk up to the hosts at the front. Host said no room gotta wait until people leave. I asked what the wait time is host explained he did not know and you just had to wait for people to leave and "hang around." We hung around out side there was no line or proper guidance. Just another couple still hanging around that got their before us. We crossed the street but stayed close keeping an eye on the people waiting outside and people leaving. I saw 2 sets of people walk in ahead of us and one crowd leave. I went to host and asked why 2 sets of people got to go ahead. He looked at me a said I had to wait around. Outside and that we crossed the street which made us lose our spot. He was not polite in each encounter. He mentioned the 2nd time there is a waiting list.... he failed to mention that before. Not gonna lie, his attitude and failure to explain the process upset me. I don't prescribe to the "customer is always right" rule. But I did try todo my research online and Yelp to see their protocols immediately before entering. He treated me like an idiot but not in the "bless your little heart" way. He put my name on the wait list but did not take my number. As annoyed as I was. I decide to stay "close" and wait it out Bc my buddy vouched for this place. Quickly got seated and this whole situation could have been avoided. Respect is important and servers and patrons should always exhibit respect for each other. The host just did not seem like he was in a good mood. Which put my party and I in a terrible mood. I write this review 2 days later to avoid fresh feelings. But I look back and that experience with the host still tainted the experience with the whole establishment. Inside the service is prompt. Great beer selection and decent bar food. Good atmosphere. They don't rush you along. Socially distant tables are good. We (2 people) sat at a table big enough to hold 6 people. Staff cleaned up after each patron wore gloves. Prob best covid precautions I have seen in DC. However I can't review more than 2 stars Bc I was very close to not even going in there.

Subpar from start to even after finish. The bouncer said to sit anywhere, but every table has a reserved sign on it, for no reason. Then, after hungrily sitting for eight minutes, I asked the one employee frantically walking around how to order, and she pointed to a QR code at the far end of the table. Instead of just telling someone what you want, ordering requires fussing with a website, and keying in all your payment info before you can even order a beer. No one tells you this until you ask. That would be OK if delivery of items to your table were reliable and prompt, but that is not the case. One of the drinks I ordered never came, and the server instead dropped a couple mystery cokes at the far end of our table, and forgot them there until I pointed that out to 20 minutes later. So I had to go to the bar and ask to get the charge removed, since the website has no option for undelivered items. The refund didn't happen until after I had already left. Two stars because the food is OK, but overpriced for the portion size. Also, the online ordering system doesn't seem to even support choosing toppings or flavors. Meh

The last time I was at the Brig was pre-pandemic so I was really excited to get invited to a friend's happy hour here this past weekend. The outdoor seating is nice because it's covered and they also had live music while we were there, which made for a really nice ambience... Even though it was a really hot day it was nice and cool within their patio. One of the things I really enjoy is that each table has QR codes so each person at the table can order (and pay for!) their own drinks or food and you don't have to worry about splitting checks or getting up to order at the bar in between rounds or anything. You just order what you want and then like magic it appears a little while later. While I was there I tried there Frozen Orange crush, which was dangerously delicious and only nine dollars. I didn't really taste the alcohol until after my second one when I got up to go to the bathroom. For food it seemed like a bunch of Yelpers had suggested trying the pretzel, which I did. It came with spicy mustard and cheese to dip it in. I thought the pretzel was decent--nothing super special but it definitely hit the spot. All in all it's a great option for hanging out with friends and I think it's worth a visit for the ambience alone (and that frozen orange crush!).

We enjoy having Oklahoma parties there. We've been there for softball games football games. Any other function that we like to have the management is cool thanks for having us.

Giving this a 4 for what it is, an easy place to meet up with a group or watch a game. Ordering is super easy if you are familiar with QR codes & online ordering. I like this because it makes splitting checks sooo much easier, because you don't have too! I ordered the Philly cheesesteak sandwich and a Caesar salad upgrade. The meat was tender, and while I don't think it was supposed to compete with a real Philly, it was still yummy and hit the spot. The salad was a much bigger portion than I expected. Score! Great seating outdoors if it's nice out. When we went, it was cold & rainy, so sat inside, but was very comfortable.

if you like food with your drink, don't come here. Their supposed "kitchen" is never open. it's super disappointing to not be able to order food during a football game after a few beers. Done with this place

This is a must visit in my opinion! I hosted an event at the Brig, and absolutely every single person on staff went SO ABOVE & BEYOND!! The manager Patrick is wonderful, their events manager Kalani is one of the best in the industry!! And absolutely everyone else did everything possible to ensure we had a great event. If you are looking for a place to host an event, I highly recommend the brig.

Loved this place! What an awesome find on a sweltering day. First, big thanks to the staff for caring about four-legged friends and having a stack of water bowls handy. Each pup got a bowl with fresh water. Next, the service is just awesome. Huge beer and cider selection. Drinks are fast to appear. Burgers are HUGE. They are so huge, we skipped dinner today. You will be full. Just a very nice place. And we won't hold it against the owners that they are the Saints fans :)

I appreciate the perks of touchless ordering but... we stopped in for a beer after nats opening day. cell service was poor, we had a hard time pulling up the menu on our phones. that would have been ok except that the *only* way to order is through the online menu, even though there are live people in front of you. the live person said she'd give us the wifi info but never did. tl;dr this place might be amazing but without a decent cell connection you'll never find out

If you're looking for a nice 1L mug of German greatness (in the form of beer), then this is your place to go in DC! The whole establishment is open to the environment--it's basically a big food stand. Their happy hour is M-F 3-7PM and you should definitely come during this time and just enjoy life. I think German beers are underrated and people need to experience the culture of sitting around picnic tables with a huge glass of ichor (look up this word). I would give this joint 4 stars, but it took 30+ minutes just to get some nachos and a hot dog. These 2 items weren't that good and kinda seemed like they were just slopped together. The nachos had too much cheese and the hot dog was just some hot dog. I even ordered a pretzel but it never came. Apparently their computer system was not working properly. All this said, I was fairly annoyed and I'd probably stay away from the happy hour food items and just get something on the regular menu if you for sure want a delicious German dish.

This was the first time I've been here because of word of mouth from a few people I happened to chat with. The atmosphere wasn't that bad. Some of the beer seem to be overpriced for a few that were sold that were from a brewery 5 minutes away. NASHVILLE SPICY chicken was just above mediocre, basically breaded chicken tender on a bun with coleslaw and spicy sauce slapped on, the frieds were the best. So, with this QR code ordering system charge 0.50 cents to place the order and non existent service except for the person that brought food from the kitchen and the bartender who opened my can of beer (my fault, I thought it should have came in a glass or atleast given a glass) should there be a 18 to 20 % tip? 3 stars because the fries were good and the beer to help me balance out the hot chicken sandwich.

I came here with coworkers for happy hour. The Long Island Iced Tea was SO good, and this was my first time eating a large pretzel. That was really light, buttery and well-salted. I had a blast.

It's a laid back environment, good to meet up with friends and have a few drinks. Don't expect bomb food, but they do have decent selection of snacking food. I took my baby and it was well equipped for a stroller set up on a non-rush hour day. The phone app ordering requirement was kinda annoying, especially because I didn't want to worry about my baby and the phone at the same time. But once i set up online ordering everything was easy and quick. Don't forget your phone!!! Not sure if this is normal protocol or just something they are doing for COVID.

Pretty staple spot in the area. I like how they have an outdoor area and a covered area with heating. Overall, it's a good spot to stop in to have some banter with friends. I also know a lot of local companies that will have a networking event or company spring social here. They have good mocktails!

Easily got a table for 2 on a Sunday afternoon. People linger here so with a bigger party it could be tough. The vibe is white males post college watching the game which is fine but it's the vibe. Average but fairly priced food for DC (if not less). Enjoyed the pretzel & bratwurst. Delicious BLT & fries. Came out quickly. Large beer selection. Wheelchair accessible but the tables are picnic tables. No pride flags or BLM signs to be found which felt not welcoming. No one was wearing masks at their tables when not eating. Dog friendly.

There's truth in The Brig calling itself Capitol Hill's hidden beer garden. Since it's just north of Navy Yard and just further south down Barracks Row than most venture, many Hill residents haven't noticed it. However, once they do, they'll make this spot their regular hang out. Here's why: 1) The space: It's a large entirely outside beer garden that's open year round. You'll pass through the gate flanked by two lions in blue and white checkered clothes into the beer garden. There are plenty of large tables outside and a bar that is covered, but still outside. Don't worry. There are plenty of umbrellas to keep the sun from roasting you (or drying up your beer). There's a large bar with seats if you want to by the three large TVs. Since its dog and kid friendly, there's a space off to the side for both to play in. 2) Beer list: They have 20 on tap (with a good local selection), many in bottles/can, and even have a cocktail list. What impressed me is having not one, but TWO, hard ciders on tap. All drinks from the tap come in all glass options including a massive beer stein. The prices are decent for expensive DC and the food menu growing bigger each month. They sell burgers, brats...a lot of beer garden food. Nothing is out of this world good, but it gets the job done if you come expecting beer and then find yourself hungry.

Quick 20 minute walk from the Nationals stadium. Enjoyed the picnic tables, unique socially distance ordering system and BEER. Burgers and movie popcorn were ok. Atmosphere and location were awesome.

Go for the beer, not the pretzels. Someone told me about this place a few months ago and I keep forgetting it's down there. I'm always over on 8th but had never gone south of the interchange. Was doing some daydrinking with friends who love beer gardens and I remembered this place so we headed down! I love beer gardens, something that's not as huge in DC as it was in Philly. For comparison purposes, Brig is kind of like a mini Frankford Hall. Lots of seating available at picnic tables or up at the bar. The weather was gorgeous and they had an awesome dude playing acoustic guitar which made it even better! Great beer list and they've got the huge steins. They do have a full bar as well if you're not feeling like a beer. The food is where they got me. We just had lunch but HAD to try a pretzel. It was terrible!!! It literally tasted like the kind you get from the freezer section. It basically tasted like bland cardboard and there wasn't even a single sprinkling of salt on it. The mustard and cheese sauce were both good but seriously, stay away from the pretzel. Absolutely was not what we were expecting at all. I have no idea about the other food on the menu but I'm hesitant to give it a try. Everything else was great just as long as you don't come here for pretzels lol! I will def be back to hang and drink here this summer!

Bottom line: traditional Biergarten feel in a big city. No pomp and circumstance here; just great German beers and fare at fair prices. Feels very similar to what is in Germany with the long standard tables, lots of German beers and of course, pretzels. The bar staff is great; knowledgeable about the beer selection and keeps a clean bar. Hofbrau on tap, and plenty of others to choose from, served in traditional German glass stein. Bring your dog! Quite a few other people brought them, so we were happy to see we weren't the only ones. Plenty of TVs that are always showing all of the sports games so college or pro sports are always on. At an average draft price of $8, it's definitely not cheap, but it's worth it. Everything feels a bit more personal and passionate at The Brig. Indulge in the experience, and grab some tacos across the street before/after. I'll be back, especially to try out Monday Bingo.

I recently took an online quiz and discovered that my spirit animal is a lion. So, I felt an immediate and deep connection with this beer garden when I was welcomed by two glorious kings of the jungle. There are tons of places to sit here! Behind the gates, and lions, is a huge patio with several seating options: benches and tables, rocking chairs, and of course the bar. On to the beverages..... Did she (the bartender) just ask me if I wanted a liter of beer? Like a size Thor beer??? Yes! That is what I would like...a beer worthy of the mighty god Thor. A stout or a hefeweizen (thank the gods they don't just have IPA's for days). Word of warning: if you are a female and you need to use the restroom, make sure to go right immediately after you exit. Otherwise, you will end up behind the bar and that is a little embarrassing.

I come here often. It's not too crowded, the service is the fastest I've probably ever seen, and the food is good (think bar food). I love the open-air vibe and that they welcome dogs. This is one of my favorite DC bars!

Live music and plenty of picnic tables. Love these because it's great for big groups but also if you want to meet some new friends just plop right on down and say hi to fellow table-mates. Great place for a nice day, but definitely would suck if it rained since everything is pretty much outdoors. The big umbrellas provide a little shade and shelter if you are trying to avoid those tans and/or burns. Beer prices are alright for beer, but I didn't come at happy hour, so that could be a game-changer. Great selection of beers. You know you're going to have fun when you can't pronounce the beers by their correct name like Schneeweize. Great place to just relax, have a beer, and really soak up and enjoy spring/summer in DC.

The Brig is a great little Beer garden in Southeast SE by the Old Navy Yard. There is a great bar in the back with numerous flatscreen TVs and plenty of bench seating for big groups. The live music was very entertaining and well done. Of course you have to order the beer liters. It's extremely well priced for dc and is amazing. I also recommend trying their giant pretzel and their bratwurst. I had to chance to meet with the owner and he is extremely nice guy. They do a good job of cleaning up quickly once everyone is done. If you haven't been o highly recommend going with Oktoberfest going on. I definitely plan on coming back again soon.

I would never return. Have you ever been to a place as an African American patron and could tell you were being "Tolerated" and not "Welcomed" , unlike the white patrons. Especially when your conduct is appropriate, compliant & coincides with all other patron counterparts. For instance, This is the type of place that will demand you follow all policies written & posted or not, but would not even attempt to hold white patrons to the same standards 1 table over, clearly not abiding by policy. This is the type of establishment that will leave you to sit at wet tables and deny your polite & simple requests (3 to be exact) for napkins. In this day & age it's important to be welcoming to All patrons. This business is not BLM friendly. Whatever prejudices or Racists attitudes or combination of both this establishment has, is evident & unfortunate. This is my truth & my experience. For heavens sake- Do better Brig.
