San Francisco’s New Restaurant Openings - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"Buoy Bar is the restaurant offshoot of The Buoy, a Korean cafe in Hayes Valley focused on coffee and rice flour desserts. For dinner, the menu includes dishes like chili jjamppong pasta, fried galbi, minari bossam, and more. We checked out Buoy Bar and added it to the Hit List." - julia chen 1, patrick wong

The Hit List: New San Francisco Restaurants To Try Right Now - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"At Buoy Bar in Hayes Valley, the lo-fi beats, barely-there lighting, and small plates made for sharing are all begging you to have your next date night here. The menu at this dinnertime offshoot of The Buoy cafe successfully reimagines familiar Korean dishes without overdoing it—galbi is fried and topped with spicy corn flakes, bossam comes stuffed with minari, and yukhoe is showered with shaved parmesan. Reservations are (for now) still easy to snag." - julia chen 1, patrick wong, lani conway

Came on a Saturday and the wait was so long, was told 1 hour 45 and were waiting for over 2 hours. Service at table was very friendly but they are overworked, kitchen very small so food takes a long time. Food is good, but definitely a bit overpriced. Crab tacos were excellent and had a lot of lump crab. Fish and chips also good. Lobster salad disappointing, small portion of meat and only lettuce and tomato. Worth coming once a year for the experience and good cocktails.

Google
The location of this place is amazing, sadly the manager or owner of this place not welcoming at all! The food is delicious not bad but is not worth the price for what you pay. I order the lobster roll it was ok not great! My boyfriend order tacos only 2 tacos! And in the middle a lettuce with beans first time seeing this anyways not worthy but it was nice the location and the sunset! Other thing parking is very very hard if it’s full so be aware of spending time going around to look for parking not easy

Google
Deep in the back of Point Lookout is where you'll find this lovely place. Spectacular food from Quinoa to Buffalo Wings to the Catch of the Day. And the plus plus is the outdoor dining on the bay. Go , what are you waiting for?

FindingSophie Music

Google
Their cocktails are spectacular! We ordered Blue Paradise and Buoy Tea, feel buzzed in 20-30mins. Nice hangout with some foods as well. But don’t order the fish taco, it’s not fresh. And I only eat one piece of that in the evening I vomited. And my mom she got diarrhea. I don’t know what they put in the food. But it’s bad food.

Jay York

Google
Good food, but not worth the price. You’re paying for the location and the view rather than the food. It was good, but when you look at the prices you think you’d get more. Nothing against the place, it was all nice and done up for the holidays and the service was good. Was a one and done kind of spot for me…

Google
beautiful views, especially at sunset. But unfortunately, the experience doesn’t match the scenery. Food was good, not great. I had the lobster roll — decent, but definitely not worth the price. got the tuna tacos, which came with… a random pile of lettuce and beans in the middle? Odd presentation, and for what you get, it just doesn’t feel like a great value. Also — parking is a nightmare. If the lot is full, expect to circle around for a while. It really kills the vibe before you even sit down.

Kevin Megnauth

Google
The food and drinks were good....the vibe is even better. I wish they didnt stop serving food at 9.

Bianca

Google
I would give zero stars if I could. This place doesn’t take reservations, which is fine if they managed walk-ins with honesty and transparency. Instead, we were told the wait would be 30 minutes — we waited over 90. No updates, no apologies, and no accountability. Staff brushed us off when we asked for a realistic estimate. Others who arrived after us were seated before us. If a restaurant is going to rely on walk-ins, they need to at least have an honest system in place. What we experienced was disorganized, disrespectful, and a complete waste of time. Not worth the hype. Won’t be back — and I’ll be steering friends elsewhere.

Yelp
Food Excellent, ans menus are extensive. Ambiance relaxed and comfortable. Family friendly..two beach areas, adult and children. Service, always exceptional, friendly. Service is wonderful and they even have entertainment. Their special events are fun and timely.

Yelp
St. Patrick's menu starts Saturday! The corned beef and Irish soda bread sliders are the best!

Yelp
Lovely location on the water at the tip of Point Lookout. Friendly and fast bar service with a large dining room. Good for both families and couples. We didn't eat there so no comment on the food. Location, location!

Yelp
Came here for my sister in law's birthday and it was good. Calamari was amazing. Only wish it wasn't a rainy day but it was still nice. Service was good, nice place. I'd definitely come back here.

Yelp
Already counting down to summer! This spot is pure magic, with incredible staff and unforgettable experiences. Can't wait to return!

Yelp
We had a great early dinner on the docks. It was high tide, customers' kids were swimming, enjoying last days of summer. Such a great atmosphere. Cocktails are great! View is awesome! And the fish is fresh!! We had the baked clams which were so good... and the shrimp were large and fresh. My mahi tacos were meaty.. Definitely a great sunny spot!

Yelp
Wonderful informal neighborhoody kid friendly hang. There was a solo guitarist the evening I was there. He was very good singing famous hits and wasn't over powering to thwart conversations. Small parking lot outside. Right in the bay. Starters - doz raw clams and fried calamari. I was actually very surprised that the calamari was totally delicious. Lump crab meat tacos and monkfish tacos were also excellent. Key lime pie was a bit small of a slice but was amazing. Very creamy. Decent decaf coffee. Excellent service. Love this kind of tee shirt and jeans spot!! Def doing back.

Yelp
Eating at the Buoy Bar is always so special. It is the most beautiful location with such nice staff. The fish is so fresh and yummy. Highly recommend the bacon boat too for the best bacon ever!!! Love this place.

Yelp
Started the season early yesterday since it was nice out here on Long Island. Buoy Bar gave us that "Summer- is- coming" vibe we needed. We ordered so many apps! Clams, tuna, mussels, soup, oysters , you name it we ate it. The mussels were the stand out here! We then had the audacity to order MORE! I had the Mahi Mahi fish tacos and they were lite and tasty. My nephew had the burger and it looked great. Service was great too. Great views and we can't wait to visit when the summer comes. The bill was ouch but we ordered like kings and ENJOYED it. Worth it.

Courtney M.

Yelp
We had an incredible view of the sunset on the water, enjoyed a couple of cocktails recommended by our fabulous server, and cannot wait to come back to try more of their delicious seafood. We were pleasantly surprised by the homey feel of this restaurant, which was accompanied by food that was equal to a fine dining experience. We loved it here!

Yelp
A trip to Point Lookout isn't complete without a meal or drink at the Buoy Bar. Luckily we were able to do both today! The sun was bright and there was a good breeze in the air which made a perfect day to take a seat out side around the dock. We got some Pina Coladas off the jump to get the afternoon going. Get ready for some brain freeze and a tasty colada. Oysters came after and were served with red vinaigrette, red sauce and lemon. Mixed em up and they were stellar. Great size and wonderful taste. Lamb lollipops and The Mini Taco Trios came next. Woah. First the the Lamb came with a ricotta cheese, arugula and garlic bread. Fine work because every single taste bud was going off. The mini taco trio did not disappoint either. One was lobster salad, another crab meat and the last tuna. Each one was better than the next. Unfortunately I was splitting it so I only got two bites of each. I ventured away from my traditional Lobster Roll order this time but look forward to giving it a go the next time I'm in town. Service was quick and cordial and were always around if we needed anything. No music was on while we were there but maybe it was a one off. We came during the day but can only imagine what the evening brings!

Yelp
You will love the Buoy Bar. During the summer months you can enjoy outdoor dining on their deck or small private beach. Set your chair at the water's edge and enjoy appetizers and cocktails. The restaurant is open 12 months a year with indoor dining during the "off season". The seafood is fresh and the dishes creative. Some of the winning items I've enjoyed are Lobster Salad that is loaded with lobster pieces, fried shrimp dumplings and their surf and turf dinner with lobster and filet mignon. The menu is not huge. The scenery is great and if you have a boat, there is free docking available for diners. Check out the specials. If you are traveling by car during the summer get there early because parking is difficult but the trip is well worth it.

Yelp
What a pleasant surprise when you visit this restaurant. The menu and specials are a culinary delight. The grilled octopus is so delicious, with a tomato and orzo salad is a tasty Mediterranean dish. As a main entree had the pan sautéed scallops with a jasmine rice and a blueberry sauce. The service was delightful and just a relaxed. Its ambiance is a waterfront dining, watching the boats go in and out of the harbor. Always a great experience, go early since this lace has a great following'

Yelp
One of the best seafood spots in the South Shore, highly recommend the fresh seafood and the beautiful atmosphere

Yelp
Went for dinner tonight at around 6:15. Place is small which caused a 45 minute wait. Not an issue at all as it is peak season for a place in the water like this. Went to the bar and ordered some drinks to find out you cannot tip on the credit card...now what's off about this is that they still give you the receipt with the place to put a tip and sign, they just stamp over it saying "case tip only". This is something very odd. Makes me wonder if the owners own the ATM in the establishment and profit off the fees. Finally sat and service was in the slower side how ever the server was nice enough. Place was extremely windy as it is patio that had the sides rolled up. Again I get that the appeal is to be on the water but when menus are flying off tables and even drinks are being knocked over you would think it is time to bring the sides down to avoid this from happening. Finally ordered food and another beverage; drink took maybe ten minutes to come to the table and the server did forget the waters that we asked for. Food comes hot and cooked properly how ever the portions are incredibly small for the price. Again while the food and service was well enough, how ever with the lunch sized portions and dinner sized price tags to be served something a simple as water in disposable plastic cups, I would avoid this place of you are actually hungry.

Yelp
Been meaning to post this... Buoy Bar is definitely the most beautiful scenic location to eat or grab a drink in the area! The inside seating is great for colder weather with a view... but when the weather is nice, you can't beat dining right on the water. There are tables along 2 docks to eat at. There are also seats and bar stands directly on the beach below the dock. There is also an adult area and a family friendly area! The sunsets are unbeatable if you go at the right time. They also decorate very well and the lights look beautiful! The drinks are good and the service is great with a very kind, attentive staff. The parking situation is an absolute nightmare if you don't live in the area, and the wait times can be very long during peak season. Definitely plan accordingly! If this review was based solely on food, I'd likely give my Surf & Turf meal a 3/5. It was good, but not anything special. The side of broccoli was almost completely raw. Overall, Buoy Bar is such a cool place and I'd absolutely recommend coming here for some apps and drinks and enjoying the views!

Yelp
party of 6 for lunch Saturday afternoon 2 apps. 6 entrée all fair to poor. crab cake app 1 small serving 20.00 mahi taco, streak slider, cobb salad with lobster .spinach salad chicken. don't mind paying if food good but not this place drinks served in plastic , nice venue and view tips cash only go for a drink and scenery do not go for food
google avatar

Yelp
Great food and a beautiful view. They do not take reservations so, you may have your wait.

Yelp
Awesome view if the ocean. Partially aam beach. Great vibe! Purple pearl is exceptional! Cheers!

Yelp
This is a nice stretch of point lookout next to the PT lookout clam bar also very nice and relaxing vibe. The drinks are very strong and tasty. Our group started with some wings and a very large pretzel. Make sure you have at least 5 people if you get the pretzel very filling. The wings were very good. I ordered the grilled cheese with bacon and crab cake like I usually it's very delicious. I ate half and took the other home. A great place to spend an afternoon arrive early on the weekend.

Yelp
We pulled up on our boat with low expectations at first. Kayla our bartender was attentive and efficient in getting our drinks. We are a party of 6 and she really was great Nancy our server was also efficient but such a happy pleasant person. She also served us with a smile and no matter how many times we kept asking for more drinks she served us with smiles. So the food was good we had octopus, lobster roll, veggie tacos tuna tartare and steamers. We really enjoyed the food. The view overlooking the water was beautiful

Yelp
First time here and I can't wait to go back. It was pretty packed for a Thursday afternoon and I got the last spot in the little parking lot. The vibe is wonderful; it's just like being in the Florida Keys and not Nassau County. My friend had the poke salad and I had the tuna tacos. Prices were reasonable although we did choose lower priced dishes. Service was fast and friendly. My tuna tacos were absolutely delicious and the serving size was just right. I recommend this gem of a restaurant.

VeeVee P.

Yelp
Went for my birthday dinner with the family. Their calamari tasted so good, crispy and tender. Highly recommend. I had the surf and turf - my lobster was rubbery and the sauce on my steak tasted weird like it was frozen and. defrosted in a hurry. No one else had complaints about their mains. Service was friendly and quick. I enjoyed sitting by the water.

Yelp
Fun place to kick back and relax on a summer day. Food is great, try the fried clams...quite good. Staff is friendly and so is everyone else. Seems like everyone who's there is nice and relaxed. The live band also put everyone in a good mood. If there's one drawback, it's that parking isn't great. But overall, what a nice experience.

Clare C.

Yelp
I am sad to say that this neighborhood is unwelcoming and the people in the place were unwelcoming and the whole place feels unwelcoming.
google avatar

M A.

Yelp
It was my first time here. If we came on a day with better weather, the experience would have been even better. The staff was kind and helpful. They were on point and gave good recommendations. We were lucky enough to have live entertainment as well. We sat by the window and had view of the water. Their food was delicious! Appetizers: Wings - Pretty good Tuna Tower: Loved it! -tuna, avocado spread, mango salsa, seaweed & sesame seeds with a miso & cucumber wasabi drizzle Thai Fried Calamari- Delicious! Brussels sprouts with bacon- WOW! Entrées: Warm Lobster roll- perfect and warm! Grilled cheese crab cakes- different but surprisingly good! Drinks- they were good too! I just forgot what I had ordered.

Yelp
From the helpful parking lot attendant to the hostess to our waitress, everyone at the Buoy Bar was so kind and helpful on a hot spring day! We spontaneously went for lunch after spending a few hours walking on the beach. We weren't familiar with Point Lookout but decided that The Buoy Bar looked like a beautiful setting so we gave it a shot. The hostess said it would be a 45 minute wait, but it didn't bother us in such w pretty location. Ten minutes later she said she couldn't find the people ahead of us on the list. So we got a lovely table on the dock. Our lunch was so delicious. Lobster pizza. Honestly can't say enough good things about it! Definitely a shared dish - both by the cost ($44) and the size. A perfect afternoon at The Buoy Bar!

Yelp
Party of 9 and separate checks and Gracie handled everything with grace. She was sweet and helpful and did everything with a smile. Food was good and large portions. View can't be beat. Not much to say that the pictures can't on this one. Except oh yeah, live music.

Yelp
Beautiful view, great ambiance. Had the lobster salad was not disappointed but could have had less lettuce. For drink Tito's Wave. Lemonade/ ice tea with a splash of vodka. Great selection of drinks. Great to just lay back & relax.

Sandra B.

Yelp
I really enjoyed the lobster bisque and lobster sliders. The bisque was creamy and had a small lump of fresh lobster. I could have done without the bacon, it was fried too well.

Yelp
What a disappointment Went to this restaurant tonight.. walked in and was greeted by two of the most unhappy bartenders I've ever experienced. My husband ordered a Negroni & was told "they don't make Negronis" still trying to figure out what that means? & then was asked exactly what kinds of margarita I was looking for? Was never given a drink menu didn't even understand that question... When I finally got it it tasted watered down and amateur-ish. The 2 bartenders, who are the face of your restaurant, clearly don't belong behind the bar serving people.. I've never been so put off by another adult in my life... I told her I just wanted a house margarita with a salted rim at which point she clearly looked annoyed. Fast forward to the horrifyingly childish dinner we were served. We complained to the manager because my husband's fish and chips look like something u would serve to a 4yo I do have pictures and we were given a free slice of chocolate cake which we both don't eat, as a suggestion to make us feel better? We will never be back & I'll be passing it along. I'm sorry for the prices people charge nowadays I cannot accept subpar food, service and an overall amateurish atmosphere. Sure it's a very nice view but that doesn't make up for a terrible drinks, bad service and bad food. On to the next place...

Yelp
I wish I could write about the food but we didn't get that far with this place. We arrived 30 minutes after opening and were told that is was a 30-45 minute wait. Ok fine, I'll wait but honestly both the young girl and the older woman at the host stand were rude and had such an attitude. Fast forward, 45 minutes later I go to see where we are on the list. "You're next but it's still 20-25 minute wait because our kitchen is backed up". What is wrong organizationally that your kitchen is that backed up? I've waited tables in many restaurants. The only reason that happens is in a poorly managed kitchen or one that is understaffed, also essentially poorly managed. Needless to say we left. Went to a restaurant down the road where we were seated right away and had a delicious lunch. What a waste of time.
google avatar

Yelp
Great place to eat on the water. Service is quick, efficient and friendly. Got linguine and clam dish with fired calamari. Highly recommend the linguine and clams, it's amazing probably the best I've ever had.

Che R.

Yelp
Tried taking the boat there and got turned away. Dock closes between 5-6. Was told due to liability reasons.

Tim D.

Yelp
Best place ever! What else could anyone ask for? Great food, drinks, and a view. What a great crowd too
google avatar

Aure S.

Yelp
Such a fun place to go in the Summer months. Eat drink and enjoy the water, beer in hand!
google avatar

Alex B.

Yelp
Stopped here for lunch. Their dining room was full so we ate outside. There were umbrellas on the table which helped with the heat. It was around 90 out. I ordered the cod tacos. The cod was nice and crunchy and tasted fresh. Also ordered were the shrimp tacos and lobster tacos. All were enjoyed. There's a nice little beach for the kids to play on, and on a hot day, that's appreciated. I would go back.
google avatar

Audrey D.

Yelp
The fish taco was absurd! The smell was funky, and it tasted quite bad. Don't recommend, But the sites and the main part of the restaurant was the great attention of others and myself! But many nice restaurants are around and in town! Don't recommend this one. Try any other foods,

Yelp
We came here for a quick LI vibe outside NYC. This was an hour drive out from Brooklyn. Here is what we ordered : Raw little neck calms - amazing!!! Surf and Turf - came with lobster and filet mignon Mom thought there was too much sauce on the filet Sister said she had better lobster. I ordered lobster roll - they had a twist to it and added Cajun spice on top. I've had better lobster rolls The ambiance was amazing. Great waterfront view. Drinks- We loved all Buoy Breeze Nantucket martini Miami vice Host and waiters were so sweet and accommodating. Definitely a go to place.

Michele N.

Yelp
There is NO parking. To find a spot to park you have to wait. My husband dropped me and our 2 kids off at the door and went to find a spot. The woman at the hostess stand would not seat us because all 4 of us were not present. I explained to her he was finding parking. She didn't care. She was rude. Nasty. Mean. Absolutely horrible with a bad attitude. We would have left but we were hungry and tired. When we were finally seated our waitress was awesome and the food was good. We found out later. The nasty lady was the owner. We were shocked. I recommend NOT going and spend your money elsewhere. There are TONS of great places to eat with nice and welcoming people.

Trina L.

Yelp
Food was good had a salad with lobster it was fresh cold it was really good. It was a heat night and the views ate beautiful

FaithFul L.

Yelp
The food, service, and ambiance are very romantic and excellent. I highly recommend visiting for a great experience.

Yelp
Went with a party of 11 on a Saturday morning as soon as they opened. Staff was really nice and friendly but I thought food took a long time to come out, especially since we were the only ones in there. Food was alright but nothing to rave about. Sangria special was good. Will return to give another try and try some specials.
google avatar

Vivi T.

Yelp
The ambiance here is amazing. The food is really good. We had tacos and sangria. The sangria is ok and watery. I then I'm ordered a red wine which was cheaper than the sangria and added it to the sangria which then tasted so much better. The staff is very positive and attentive. We sat outside with the view of the water and dock. Will definitely be visiting again.
google avatar

Priyam B.

Yelp
Overpriced yuck food. However, the staff is kind and margarita is good. Location is good too.
google avatar

Samantha A.

Yelp
Does not look as appeal when you pull up but once inside it is a cute spot overlooking the water. Staff was very accommodating and did not rush us. They drinks were excellent! Food was good, nothing wow'd me on the menu but everything my party ordered tasted good. Several dishes aren't featured: Taco dishes, lobster salad sliders, buffalo chicken wrap Would go back

Debra B.

Yelp
Overpriced Overcooked food Too much ice in a overpriced drink Hostess was curt and oblivious Plastic chairs and plastic tables inside Waitress was nice. If you want beers at the bar with pretzels, maybe Won't be back PS bring cash.... Problem with taking any type of cards.
google avatar

Patrick B.

Yelp
Just had one of the worst meals I have EVER had! Clams on half shell.... warm Baked clams....had some unidentifiable smoky flavor, stove top stuffing packed into a foil shell Shrimp Cerviche.....other than cilantro you couldn't taste anything else Poke salad.... ha! A few pieces of tuna floating on a bed of sickly over dressed out of the container seaweed salad! The mahi mahi so over cooked you needed a chain saw to cut through it! Complain to the waitress...ok she said well it's hit or miss here. It was slow so the chef left. I would say go foe a drink and call it a night but the bartender didn't even pour the right wine. Horrible expensive waste! Think twice before you go!!!!'

Yelp
I will start off and state that this restaurant is on the water with docking slips and even a small beach for children to enjoy. I was introduced to this restaurant to enjoy a day in the sun and to have fun on the beach. The restaurant serves seafood & American familiar dishes along with cocktails & a waterside deck. Other than the views and the relaxing enjoyment of waterside dining, I found the restaurant food and service good for this great location.
