The Butcher & Larder - Review - Chicago - The Infatuation

"The Butcher & Larder in Lincoln Park has locally-sourced meat from butchers who are knowledgeable and happy to help you out. You’ll find housemade sausages (both smoked and fresh) in addition to other cuts of meat - like lamb shanks and tomahawk steaks, plus marrow and animal fat. This place might be trendy and aesthetically pleasing - but we can’t deny that the shop concept is very well fleshed out. Get it? Fleshed out. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Team Infatuation

Local Foods and Butcher & Larder Will Close After Five Years - Eater Chicago

"Butcher & Larder, the butcher shop that started in Noble Square, is also closing. Head butcher Rob Levitt previously made a name here before moving to Fulton Market in 2019. The shop supplied meats from various farms and featured a meat case with unique sausages." - Ashok Selvam

Got lucky enough to get a chance to shop here. I do HVAC, a customer's unit went out on the weekday and I had to make the long drive out to the city. I was so happy to find a butcher 5 mins. away from the customers house. Definitely did not expect such a beautiful assortment of local goods. This isnt your basic grocery store. This place has heart, it has passion. Its the type of place where a "foodie" feels as if there in a wonderland. From the farm fresh eggs to the rare selection of FRESH mushrooms!!!! Everything in this store is the upmost quality. The butcher will do cuts most butchers won't (they do Picanha, a Brazilian cut, most of your common American butchers won't do it because it is unprofitable, this cut takes away meat from the cuts that sell here in America). The marbling (fat to meat ratio) of the meat was some of the most beautiful I have seen in my life. I come from the suburbs where "fancy" is the local jewels. This was the nicest pice of chuck roast I have ever purchased in my life and the taste proved it. I will be coming back for years to come, I don't even care it's a 45 min. drive from my house. It will be worth every second knowing what high quality goods I have waiting!!! =D

A great gem for the neighborhood, but a bit out of the way to get to for those not residing close or living off of the blue line. I trekked down here on my bike on a nice day, and hit up the store as they were opening for the day. I know it can get busy at peak times, so it was great to be the only patron in the store. Their menu consists of a giant chalkboard on the right wall once you walk in where they have marked if items are in stock or not. It is a bit of an overload if you're not prepared with what you want exactly, so I'd recommend taking a look at their website before coming in. They have a handful of unique items that aren't listed on the website, but that's a general rule of thumb. I decided to stick to their handmade sausages, and I was impressed with their wide offering. They had a Louisiana Hot Sauce Pork Sausage to a Red Wine Beef Sausage, and a bunch of items in between, making it difficult to choose. The staff was helpful in their recommendations on how to cook and pair these items. Next to the register their offerings of rilettes and other meat items caught my eye, making a great addition to my selection of items to take home. This place is a bit pricey ($10/per pound of sausage), but the quality is top notch. You definitely get what you pay for!

This is for the Forum location. Sandwich was fine, although expecting a little more than burned white toast. Slaw was decent.

I always buy meats here. I am coming all the way from the south side. They always provide various kinds of good quality meats as much as I want.

Great butcher with lots of local Midwest products. Talk to the butcher and they will definitely guide you to what you need, extremely knowledgeable.

We bought some terrible lamb racks there, they should not be selling at a high price low quality meat.

So far, everything I have tried has been interesting, and some items have been outstanding. The staff is very helpful. The offerings change daily.

Had a little run-in with the butcher about a year ago with the quality of a product a year later I tried them again and ordered over the phone for curbside pick up two minutes later I get a phone call from the butcher telling me we’re not selling you anything go somewhere else Attacking me on the telephone pretty pathetic there’s a lot of other stores where I can buy the same and even better quality
