The 12 Best Restaurants in Casablanca, Morocco | Eater

"Combined with spices, onions, and tomatoes, camel meat makes a delicious meal at one of the city’s most popular spots for street food. Head to the butchers on the Marche Viande near Derb Sultan, an area popular with Moroccans for outdoor shopping and street food, and just look for the camel heads hanging near one of the stalls. Order by weight and have your meat ground along with cilantro, parsley, salt and cumin. Then take it across the way to have it grilled along with veggie accompaniments. Eat it on the spot, in a central seating area between the butcher and grill stalls, or take it on the road. Outdoor dining and takeaway. [$]" - Amanda Ponzio-Mouttaki

Went in for the first time this Sunday since I moved to Ballantyne! Selection of beef and chicken was incredible and the customer service was fantastic! The staff were very enthusiastic and passionate about helping me find what cut of beef I was looking for. Amazing service and quality products. Will definitely be a regular customer here! :)

Google
Love this place. Is it cheap? No. Is it worth it? Heck yes. Meats are on point. New york cheesecake is some of the best I've had and you get a huge slice for a reasonable price. Key lime pie is good too and reasonably priced. Frozen foods taste homemade. Sourdough garlic bread round is awesome. Now ...the so so. Marinated bourbon mushrooms aren't as good as they used to be. Egg salad is very dry. Chicken salad is very good but dry as well ....add some mayo yourself and your good to go. Saturdays there is a farmers market out front in the parking lot that has some good stuff too. Huge fresh flower arrangements...30 bucks but they last a long time

Google
Great place, great food, and great service! I purchased some prime ribeyes last week and was inadvertently charged for fillets. I brought my receipt in this morning, and they went above and beyond. Gave me a gift card for the full amount, not just the difference. That means a lot!

Google
Pretty disappointing. I’ve been to a few butcher shops around the southeast part of Charlotte and this is at the bottom of my list. The sausage was wildly disappointing. The prepared “beef stew” had 3 pieces of beef in it and had absolutely no flavor that even salt couldn’t save for $13. The potatoe salad is a very weird taste. This is just my opinion but I will drive further for a different butcher shop.

Google
I've been buying meat here for over 10 years, although overpriced, I have been very happy with the quality of their meats, and their service. I'm not sure what has changed here, but they have gone downhill with their service and don't really seems to care anymore. I called to special order Waygu for weekend guests, was told that they had it and not to worry. Got there, told didn't have it, then called the manager, was told they "DID " have it and to come back down. Turns out they did have the meat there, but they won't cut until the weekend. Done with these idiots.....

Google
I like this butcher shop. It has a great variety of meats, frozen and fresh fish and shrimp and prepared frozen dinners and appetizers. Not to mention exotic foods (alligator frog legs etc) . Great steaks!

Flat Rate Services Charlotte

Google
The only real butcher shop around the ballantyne area that Im familiar with. Their meats are of the highest quality and they have an excellent selection of prepared ready to cook foods for the oven & grill. If you are having a get together and want quality this is the place to go.

Google
First time here. Some very unique items like buffalo hot wing sauce cheese, foie gras, bison hotdogs and pickle beer. The pig's ears were different. Enjoyed looking around. Recommend.

Yelp
The best neighborhood butchers market with take home meals, fresh meat, craft beer and wine, candy, snacks, seasonings, and more! Fill your propane tanks too.

Yelp
Yummy frozen meals like shepherd's pie and italian food, pasta, chicken pot pie and excellent beer and seltzer selections. You can earn points for purchasing and get discounts.

Yelp
I love coming to the Butcher's Market to get my fresh meat and any specialty seasoning that I might want. Every time I walk into this store I'm impressed at the selection they have. They have all kinds of fish/seafood and all kinds of meat - both marinated and non-marinated - and the prices are pretty reasonable. On the weekends they usually have some more special things (fresh Wagyu), just call ahead to make sure they have what you need. Everything is very well spaced out and organized in this store, and you can ask anyone for help and they'll direct you where you need to go. They even have rewards points to help out the frequent shoppers! I'm a big fan of the Butcher's Market and will continue to go there when I'm buying something special.

Yelp
What a great place to buy fresh meat or fish. The place was packed with customers either picking up pre order food or placing an order like us. You can buy rubs, marinades, salads, sides, bread, rolls, desserts, etc. They also have frozen wild game if that is what you are into. It was unfortunate that half their store did not have power as we were not able to see any of the meat or fish on display. iI was ok we were not able to hand select our steaks or fish - the store has such a great reputation we were not too worried about what we would end up with. We decided to order 4 prime marinated NY strip and 2 tuna steaks. They make theur own naribade so we had to try it. We also wanted to try one of frozen pre-made meals so we chose the sausage and pasta with vodka sauce. While in line to checkout we saw more than a few people with trays of cinnamon buns so we had to try them as well. This is a summery of our purchased food:. The cinnamon rolls were grainy. Not smooth. I think they were old (I had to pull them from the back). The steaks had a great flavor as the marinade was really good. Three of the 4 steaks were over cooked because we were given 4 different sized steaks. 2 got burnt the third was well done....$60 wasted. The tuna was good but again they gave us one large steak and one thinner one so the smaller was was dry....another $15 wasted. If I can make any suggestion....do not make a purchase without seeing what you are buying. $136.00 later I can say I was disappointed because of the unevenness it was cooked improperly. 4 stars because the cook is partially to blame. 3 stars otherwise. The sales person is the first person that should know better than to sell meat and fish the way they did. Ruined my Christmas meal. Only 1 of us ate. :(

Yelp
Wildly priced meats, limited selection. I drove 35 mins here for no reason...............................

Yelp
I have loved in Charlotte for 13 years and I cannot tell you how excited I am to talk about this place. Being from Buffalo, they carry Bison Dip, Chivettas, and Weber products. It was like being back home in any reputable butcher shop. They have a huge selections of spices and premade plates. I am making this a once a week stop for my meat. Yes, it's a little more than Teeter but I'm paying for quality, friendly service and freshness I will get. Totally recommend this place for your next cookout.

Yelp
This place is awesome. We are new to the area and love that this is not far from our new house. The staff are friendly and they are quick to address your questions. The steak we got was so good.
google avatar

Yelp
Meat and prepared foods always excellent. Staff is very friendly. Highly recommend.

Yelp
This is probably the best butcher in Charlotte. The one thing I wish they carried was porterhouses. The meat is pricey, but so is New York Butcher and this place is better. The prime ribeyes and strips are amazing and literally better than if you bought them at steak 48 (because you should be cooking over real, natural charcoal). The sausages and chicken are pretty good, too, and the desserts are good. Highly recommend. The prime rib burgers are also spectacular.

Joanne V.

Yelp
The food they showed on their website was not available in the store. What we did purchase was bland.
google avatar

steve s.

Yelp
We asked for skirt steak which was not in the display case. The butcher said he had some skirt steak in the back and brought out and packaged it for us without showing the meat to us. Unfortunately, when we grilled it today, it was obviously flank steak not skirt. We will not shop here in the future as a butcher would know the clear difference between the two cuts. Buyer beware!

Yelp
Specialty grocer, inceed. The Butcher's Market has #AllTheMeats and lots of amazing looking seafood, too. The meat coolers have lamb, veal, buffalo, alligator, boar and ostrich. Yes, really. And "regular" beef and pork and chicken. Sausages, fresh and flash frozen shrimp, some tuna and salmon that looked amazing. Fresh racks of ribs. Side dishes like twice-baked potatoes and cheese mashed potato. Several coolers of beer included local and micro-brew six and twelve packs. Great looking wines. Several displays of other local products including honey, marinades, sauces and such. I'm seriously impressed by the selections at The Butcher's Market. I will be back.

Yelp
Great place to get some quality steaks for any special event. Highly recommend and will definitely be coming back for some more wonderful wagyu steaks

Yelp
Great meats AND seafood. Really expensive meats AND seafood but they are high quality meats. Good parking too. The place hasn't been packed so I'm able to get in and out quickly. I plan to buy all my meats from this place.

Yelp
We really like this store, they have a lot of great products. We don't live in the area, but whenever we are in the area, we stop by to see what they have. We haven't gotten their fish (we have a fish guy we go to that is a lot closer to us), or other meats, other than their frozen stuff. We love it that they have Pasta & Provisions, so we always make sure to stock up. They have a good beer (of beers you cannot just get at any regular grocery store) selection.
google avatar

Tiffney F.

Yelp
This place is amazing! Their meat selection and option for custom orders is second to none. The staff is very accommodating when needing specific cuts and thickness of meat. The price is well worth the quality!

Yelp
I stopped by The Butcher Market on Rea Road, recently. I asked for a 3-4 pound top round roast which will be marinated for London Broil. As I was checking out, I mentioned that it was my first time to visit. One of the butchers brought me a sample of their signature, marinated chicken. I also picked a ice bottle of Italian red. This place is definitely worth checking out. A fun place to shop for meat, cheese, wine.

Yelp
Ok so I would like to begin by saying that I am NOT reviewing the staff, service or professionalism of this company. I had an incredible experience with them, they were very kind and helpful all the way through. HOWEVER I am reviewing the QUALITY OF THE MEAT. I would like to preface by saying I know how what a great, a good, and a bad ribeye tastes like. I've eaten prime grade ribeyes at ruth chris, Morton's, Mastros, Fleming's, the golden steer in Las Vegas, 5 star steak house in aspen Colorado and not to mention I know how to cook steak to a perfect medium with an incredible crust (see images attatched) all that to say I spent $190 on 3 "prime ribeyes" and in all honesty I could not tell the difference between these super expensive steaks and the choice grade angus steaks from Harris and teeter that cost 1/3 of the price. That's why I'm giving this place a 2 star review because the "quality of the meat" just isn't there, not that the meet was bad but it was just ok especially for the price. I was really excited to make "prime ribeyes" but my taste buds and wallet were frankly disappointed. :( I guess I'll be sticking with Harris n teeter!

Yelp
Great selection of meats and prepared dishes! Many specialty items to choose from as well. If you are looking to cook quality meats look no further!

Yelp
I've shopped here twice, only for brisket. First time I was able to get a ~15 lb brisket for ~$100 (I can get the same thing at Walmart for half of that and it tastes the same). Walmart was out of brisket due to COVID shortages, so I thought hey I am good with paying for $100 for another ~15 lbs for my birthday. ~17 lbs is ~$175. These guys are price gouging, or they are getting priced gouged and passing it onto the customers. Either way, shame on them. Don't buy from your distributors if they are gouging you. Shame on you.

Nancy A.

Yelp
Fun place to shop for gourmet pantry items, prepared casseroles, and frozen unusual proteins (ie frog legs). But that's not what I drove a ways for. I really wanted this to be my go to butcher for quality aged beef, but their offering was super expensive and didn't look great. Here they seem to cater to pre marinated and prepared foods. These choices may be good (I haven't tried them), but certainly not what I was shopping for.
google avatar

Gene W.

Yelp
I had been looking for a butcher since I am new to the area and I have found one. First off, the customer service is A+. They are there to help and don't mind answering questions about different cuts of meat or offering suggestions. These guys have great cuts of meat, frozen and fresh. They even have some exotic foods also. I won't name them all, you have to go yourself. They will do custom cuts too, but some may require you to call a couple days ahead. We picked up some tenderloin tips for kabobs and a nice prime cut of ribeye steak. Now granted I did cook it up, BUT it was delicious. It was a great cut of meat. Now, the prices are a bit high if you are like me and normally buy your meats from the supermarket, but I am sold on this store. I will buy from here when I want to step my game up. By the way, they have breads, spices, corn, rubs, sodas, bacon, sausages, etc.

Yelp
Purchased filet mignon for Christmas. We tried their 2 different grades and found them ok. They were very expensive but believe it or not they weren't as good as BJ's clubs. I have tried many different butchers filet (I don't mind spending the money if it's better) but BJ's is still the best to us.

Marlo H.

Yelp
First time customers. They were busy on a Sunday evening. The young man behind the counter was nice, but got a little overwhelmed so when another man came to add more items to the counter, we asked him if he could help us. He was helpful but not the friendliest guy. LOL We got meat that they only had in the back. Didn't ask us if that is what we wanted? Just wrapped it up and handed the $65 piece of meat to us and walked away.

Yelp
We have found NIRVANA!! We are transplants from above the Mason Dixon, and as such we miss some of the things we are accustomed to having at our local stores. I had purchased a Bacon making kit for my husband, and we needed Pork Belly. This is something I expected to be at the grocery store, however I found it was not that easy to find. I did some searching on Yelp (of course) and found this butcher! Holy Mackerel!!!!! We were like kids in a candy store, they had my husband's favorite beer which you cannot find anywhere else down here, it is brewed in the north, "Great Lakes Brewing Company: Edmond Fitzgerald. He was so excited, I saw Chilean Sea Bass, and was jumping up and down, then.... We saw the ribeye.....Oh my goodness! DROOLFEST it had to be an inch thick, it would have easily fed both of us for supper. We did not buy the fish or the steak however, we were on a belly mission...We bought 3lbs. of Pork Belly and have since started the curing process. We did also get the beer, and these awesome Soft Pretzel Bites, I found a recipe and made a beer cheese dip, it tasted like *Melting Pot* Cheese! We will be coming back again and again. This was worth both the drive from Gastonia, and the money. Thank you so much for being there Butcher's Market, you have made 2 people very happy!

Yelp
I love this place! The habanero steak tips are to die for. Great selection of sides, condiments, snacks, and of course meats! We have bought many steaks and sausages to sample from, they are all so good. Staff and owner are super awesome too. So happy we moved around the corner!

Yelp
So after continuing to visit I figured it was only fair to update my review. I've come to really enjoy the Butchers Market. The meat, especially the prime beef has been excellent since my first couple of visits but still pricey. However, the quality warrants the price. There's also a wide selection of products in the grocery section, prepared foods, and freezers. Everyone in the place from behind the counter to the cash register is extremely friendly and ready to help you out with whatever you need. With the farmers market across the parking lot it truly is a one stop shop.
google avatar

Yelp
This place! This is an amazing market. Came here in a crowded Saturday. There was a guy with a grill outside feeding us tons of samples. From there it was clear to me what I had to buy inside. I was impressed by the stores variety and fresh looking meats and prepared foods! I bought a few varieties of chicken and straps. My family was very pleased! Everyone was happy! I was happy! The quality is impeccable and the service was pleasant! What's not to love.
google avatar

Danny M.

Yelp
This is the best butcher shop I've ever been to! You are gonna love it! Only prime and choice cuts! They sell Lenny Boys too! One of the most well run businesses I've experienced! Customer service top notch! Very knowledgeable staff! Definitely coming back!
google avatar

Michael F.

Yelp
Great place to find unique for me condiments. I'm always picking up something new hot sauce or bbq sauce to try, and I haven't been disappointed yet!
google avatar

Mark T.

Yelp
Periodically I'll grab something from here. Their chicken is just alright, their beef tips are incredible, and their steaks aren't anything special. They have a nice variety of other random items such as pastas, sauces and rubs. The service is pretty slow, and staff not overly friendly. Feels very pricey compared to other locations such as HT and even Wholefoods. Easy parking in lot outside, easy on off main road access.
google avatar

Munoz J.

Yelp
Post ownership change from the Meat House, the quality and taste has remained constant, IMO. However; my rating downgrade to 3 Stars is solely based on customer service. This place is expensive, very expensive. I probably spend over $300 a month on average. There's no other place like this around so I have no alternatives either. Yet if I'm going to knowingly overspend, I'd like a cheerful smile at least. UPDATE Increased to 4 Stars. Customer service has gone up significantly. Keep it up!
google avatar

Tom T.

Yelp
They've gone way downhill. It's like an overpriced Harris Teeter. Kid butchers that stand there clueless. New York butcher is my new place.

Allan H.

Yelp
Quality has really deteriorated. Upon opening our package the day following our purchase, we discovered we were sold spoiled meat for four of our six burgers. Our neighbors recently had a similar experience. We won't be back.
google avatar

Nanda J.

Yelp
We haven't been here in a while just because it's not on our normal route, but we read about the curbside pick up and social distancing practices inside ... so I sent my husband. He was sooo impressed by the set up in store, gloves for customers, amazing. And our dry aged ribeye, marinated asparagus, and mac'n'cheese were top notch restaurant quality!! I almost didn't want to share with my toddler! We will definitely visit more frequently.

Yelp
As an ex-butcher, I appreciate this place more than most as the high quality of the meats and knowledge of its meat cutters is indisputable. I also love the fervor and customer committedness of its employees, in fact, it is second to none. Yes you pay more, much more, for such quality; and to some it's worth it. I do personally enjoy shopping here and love its community vibe but it would be very difficult for the average person to purchase all their meat here which is why I purchase some select cuts here but still purchase most my meat the nearby Harris Teeter. If price was not a issue, yes I'd purchase everything here. I should add that there are Go Play Save coupons available books that contain two $10 off of $50 coupons in them which I always use. Local schools sell these books during fund drives. It's also worth mentioning that on Wednesdays and Saturdays fresh produce is sold open market style in the parking lot. I normally go on one of those two days. I must give this place five stars and it is also a Gotta Try.

Yelp
I would really like to thank The Butcher's Market for the AMAZING service I received today. Everyone knows since COVID-19 it has been extremely hard to find meat in grocery stores, so I decided to come here. On top of the HUGE selection, the prices were fair right along with it. I have only tried their chicken as of this evening, but the quality and flavor of the meat is 110% better than anything you'll find elsewhere. Anthony was SUPERB at his job - made it quick, easy, and had me smiling the whole time, excellent and APPRECIATED customer service from him. Leslie at the cashier was so sweet and even applied a 10% women's discount (on Tuesdays only). Absolutely recommend this place - can't wait to go back!

John V.

Yelp
Our family just moved to Charlotte. Heard from our in-laws that the meat is good here so I took a chance and stopped in today. The customer service behind the counter where they handle the meat was appalling. In a time when cleanliness is at the front of everyone's minds...for their employee to tell me that he couldn't do a task because they would have to sanitize their slicer is beyond me. I didn't know that asking someone to do THEIR job was a task. Definitely lost brand new customers to the area and word of mouth from us when asked will definitely not be a positive one.
google avatar

Julia M.

Yelp
This cool little speciality grocery store stocks a variety of meats, cheeses, frozen foods, locally made bread, gourmet treats, spices, imported pastas, and other assorted items. They also have a small but decent selection of beer and wine. The prices are higher than what you'd pay in a supermarket, but for the convenience and service, it is sometimes worth it. Of course, as you would expect from the name of the establishment, they have a full meat counter with all sorts of meats, sausuages, chicken, and fish. They will butcher items for you upon request and also slice meats & cheeses deli-style. In the meat counter, they also have a variety of prepared items such as seasoned chicken breasts stuffed with spinach and cheese. In the frozen foods section, you will find things such as duck sausage and buffalo sausage or burgers... and I think I saw some sort of frozen rabbit as well.
google avatar

Crag F.

Yelp
Something POSITIVE has changed here. Way to go team, you're back to your Meat House glory. I think the community is reacting to your positive changes. I feel more at home there now, my kids feel like they're invited versus a nuisance. Keep it up, and thank you for making South Charlotte a bit more awesome.
google avatar

Courtney D.

Yelp
I don't leave enough Yelp reviews because...time. But I felt compelled to take the time today to compliment their marinated chicken breasts. Historically, I hate cooking chicken breasts. They're always dry, chewy and blah. But two weeks in a row now my husband and I picked up their Joyce Farms marinated Voodoo chicken breasts for dinner. And two weeks in a row we've cooked and eaten the best chicken we've had in our lives. Not even exaggerating! At $7.99/lb it seems pricey but my husband and I can each enjoy a delicious, juicy chicken breast for $10 total a meal, with no prep. This is the beginning of a long, tasty relationship with The Butcher's Market. PS- Get the Voodoo. But leave enough for me. ;)
google avatar

Shawn C.

Yelp
love the cowboy steaks, which feed 3 of us off one steak. really unique place! the kabobs are enormous!. I love the selection of marinated veggies as well as meats. you can also get rare meats that are very unique, buffalo, venison (my husband get this hunting- a extremely lean meat choice) alligator to name a few. they have all kinds of sauces and spices, chips and dips too the often have stuff that you can sample as well. I recently found a very large jar of chipolote powder that I use all the time. this place is awesome
google avatar

Tim W.

Yelp
If you are looking for a local quality butcher with a personal touch that is impossible to find at a grocery store you need to check out The Butcher's Market! Great selection and cuts of meat plus a wide variety of craft beers. Pasta, produce, marinated meats and poultry- this place is awesome.

Brenda T.

Yelp
3 stars strictly for the selection available. The prices here are astronomical. Beer and wine are well over all grocery stores in the area. The meat selection is vast but my goodness, the pricing. Their beef tips for grilling are really good - but at $15 a pound for marinated sirloin ends is very high. You can get Angus filet cuts for less at Publix and HT - as well as whole Prime filet at Costco for essentially the same price. The place has a cool feel when you first go - but then realize it's marked up greatly for their "specialty"... People will go to keep up with the Joneses.. But it's just out of our range to be the norm.
google avatar

Liz P.

Yelp
I was so excited to see a real live butcher shop when we moved to this area! My husband and I love little specialty stores so we went almost immediately. The store has it all, jams, hot sauce, fun beers, breads, all kinds of wine, tasty desserts and even side items already prepared. We got some thick cut NY strips and told the butcher we were new to the store and he gave us some cilantro chicken to try for free! The steaks were obviously amazing but the chicken was seasoned to absolute perfection. This place reminds me of a general store - it's super cute and the selection is very diverse.
google avatar

Kelly C.

Yelp
Are they pricey? Yes. Is it worth it? Yes. I like a one stop shop, and Butcher's Market gives you just that, in local products. They have everything from beautiful cuts of meat to craft beer, to veggies and pimento cheese. Everything is always fresh and you can tell that they've put thought into their selections. The cuts are the best of the best, but they're happy to tell you what are second and third best - if you're looking for something more in that price range. You can find cheese in the back - I'm back on a pimento cheese kick, and they have Pasta & Provisions products in the freezer! I stop in here on Saturdays for the Farmers' Market outside, and then stop inside and pick up my meats (and samples!). They have a very large selection of craft beer for a store of this size, and you'll often find not only food samples, but beer samples as well! I love seeing the hyper local regulars - Bird Song, OMB, Unknown, along with some state wide NC breweries. The staff is super helpful and friendly, they'll assist in answering any questions and even tell you how to cook/marinate/smoke/prepare the foods that they sell should you need any guidance (I usually do.). They're always grilling something outside on Saturdays, and this has a very strong potential to change your meal plans. I've come in here a handful of times sure that I was looking for marinated chicken, and walked out with steak instead. haha - who's surprised? No one. They are a higher priced butcher, but I feel like it is definitely worth it for one-on-one assistance from staff and the quality of meats and foods that you can purchase here. If you want big box store kind of help, go to a big box store. If you want a little more attention to detail and a larger local selection, go to Butcher's Market.

Stephen s.

Yelp
Called ahead to make sure they had what I was looking for in stock (veal shank for Osso bucco/ beef short ribs for a dinner party). When I arrived everything was wrapped up and waiting for me at the butchers counter. It was a bit pricey but it was all great quality and they gave me the best cuts they had. The staff is definitely friendly and helpful and because of this I will continue to comeback every chance I get.

Yelp
This place is really cool. The meats looked awesome and there is a lot of specialty items. We bought the hot sausage and it was delicious! They were out of the ribs but everything else was on display. They have a nice selection of wine and craft beer too! They are pricey but its totally worth it!
