On the Grid : Selamat Pagi

"Hiding on the East side of McGuinness Ave. Selamat Pagi has a fresh take on Indonesian food. With the menu changing seasonally there is always something new to try. Whether you're looking for something new or a fresh spin on something already familiar, the food here will satisfy your needs. The portions are a little small, but the flavors definitely are not." - Milkshake

The Best Restaurants For A Low-Key Date Night In NYC

"This Greenpoint spot feels like a cool library, except you’re allowed to eat, drink, and talk as loud as you want. If you and your date are into goblins, gargoyles, and/or dark academia vibes, you’ll really like The Buttery Bar. If you like not-boring seasonal food and unusual wine and beer lists, you’ll positively love it. Come here for funky pet-nats, elevated salads substantial enough to be meals unto themselves, and some of the best desserts this side of the East River. The booth seating is perfect for a romantic tête-à-tête. " - carina finn koeppicus

The Buttery Bar - Review - Greenpoint - New York - The Infatuation

"This Greenpoint spot feels like a cool library, except you’re allowed to eat, drink, and talk as loud as you want. If you’re into goblins, gargoyles, and/or dark academia vibes, you’ll really like The Buttery Bar. If you like not-boring seasonal food and unusual wine and beer lists, you’ll positively love it. Come here for funky pet-nats, elevated salads substantial enough to be meals unto themselves, and some of the best desserts this side of the East River. It’s perfect for a lowkey date, a catch-up with friends, or a brunch that has food you’ll actually want to eat (think: tres leches french toast) and booze too sophisticated to be bottomless. If The Buttery Bar sounds pretentious, you’ve got the wrong idea. It’s giving Indie Sleaze Academic in all the right ways." - Carina Finn

The buttery bar pancakes are something special. A special sweet treat. The pancakes are made with their signature almond + poppyseed blend, cinnamon apples, whipped cream, maple syrup & butter 🔥 They are fire. I rejoiced in every bite, and you should too if you get the opportunity. Vibe is 10/10 if you’re the type of person who enjoys tasteful decor and an 80’s rock and roll kind of sound 💯🙌🏼

Walked by this place a hundred times before finally coming in, but glad we did! Came for brunch this morning and the menu is a bit diverse. We had Mexican style molletes (beans and pico de gallo on toast with a fried egg on top) which was declious. And the mushroom and cheese omelette was honestly one of the best omelettes I’ve had. So soft and buttery. Also had a nice cocktail list but we just had coffee today. For a nice sit down brunch was decently priced at less than $30 a person. We will be coming back to try out the drinks next time!

Google
The look of the place is quite nice and the service was average, but the pricing for quality of food is pretty bad. For chicken and waffles, the chicken had an overwhelming oil taste and the waffles are like hotel waffles which wasn’t worth the $18. Also the drip coffee was $5 per person for a small cup with no refills offered which is way to much in my opinion. I would skip this place for brunch.

Google
Nice interior and ambience. I only tried their drinks and I wanted to compare the Bloody Mary with the Caesars from back home. Definitely a different taste and not as exciting, kinda bland. I do like how big the glass is and the garnishes. On the pricier side even for a mocktail. Really appreciated though that they made a new batch for the juice because the batch I found it spicy. I’m sure their food is good, I’m just reviewing on the drink.

The cornbread!!!! I haven’t stopped thinking about it all day! Amazing wine selection, great atmosphere, and delicious food that can almost 100% be prepared gluten free (!!!!!!). The Buttery is the perfect addition to the neighborhood. I can’t wait to come back!

Yelp
Came here for ACOTAR trivia and will absolutely be going back! The chicken schnitzel I had was really good and omg was it gigantic but really it's the trivia! So many bookish activities it's so nice to have somewhere to go and do bookish things!

Yelp
We like to come here for chess club once a week. The ambience is really cute with the menus in QR codes in books, and the chicken schnitzel slaps.

Yelp
We had a lovely sunday brunch here on a very chill sunday morning. The space is bright and charming and perfect for sunday brunch vibes. I had the steak and eggs which were cooked perfectly. I also reccomend the churros which come with dipping chocolate for a sweet treat. We didnt wait long for a table and the servers were very attentive and took care of us when our drinks need to be topped off. Would definitely come back again.

Yelp
Decided to go here for trivia night and enjoyed the decor and atmosphere. The food was absolutely delicious and they had special themed cocktails for the night.

Yelp
How did I not find this place sooner!? I absolutely love The Buttery Bar. The service and atmosphere are great, and the vibe inside is so unassuming. The bar is well stocked, and the bartenders definitely know what they are doing (according to my friends at least, I don't drink - but they have good diet cokes too). And last but certainly not least, the food. So effing good. It's a blessing and a curse when you want to order everything on the menu, but alas. Here we are. I ordered a burger topped with cheese, bacon, pineapple, and a fried egg. You can have it served with fries or a salad. It did not disappoint. It's definitely pilgrimage worthy if you are not local, and if you are local, add Buttery Bar to your list if you haven't yet checked it out. See you there!

Yelp
Would have been great to tell us the kitchen was closed when you seated us at a table at 9:50pm and then ignored us for 20 minutes.... Just totally not cool. Or necessary.

Yelp
best chicken schnitzel around. the last 3 or 4 times ive been here, the tables have been very sticky. my hands and elbows stick to the tables. other than that, great local spot.

Yelp
Couldn't order food before the kitchen closed because the bartender was too busy chitchatting to come over and take our order for 20 minutes.

Yelp
Food is always excellent and service is great. The items on the menu feel upscale but at an affordable price point and the aesthetic of the place is cozy and chic.

Yelp
Beautiful bar. Love the owners! Great wine recommendations and friendly service. Flattering lighting and they also have great food!

Yelp
This place is great. Cute inside, cute outside option. Not too many food options but I think there's enough to be satisfied. Their house wine was great. The service was fine, not the most friendly bartenders but could've just been an off night. I'd go back

Yelp
Hands down the worst dining experience of my life. Never have I experienced such poor service. Our server was rude and condescending and approached her job like a bratty little teenager who didn't want to pick up her bedroom when asked to. From the jump she acted like we were the cops who just came in and broke up her underage drinking party. She was pissy towards us for no reason and even *hip-checked me* when passing by me as I was asking her coworker for the check. Our meals arrived - mine was completely wrong (grossly undercooked) and we actually didn't even stay to eat because she made the experience that uncomfortable. Whoever is in charge of hiring servers here might want to run personality tests on prospective employees to ensure they actually have one. If you're having a bad day and want someone to take it out on, trust me sis I'm not your girl.

Yelp
Amazing!!!!!!! This is a great bar/restaurant for any occasion! The wine list is top shelf. The cocktails are tasty and well curated. Fancy fries and other food is beautifully prepared and presented. Kudos to the staff and owner!!!!

Yelp
Just came across this place and was able to sit in their outdoor dining area set up like a ski chalet - adorable. Food was also beyond good (got the grilled cheese with arugula gouda and hot honey and soup of the day - butternut squash) and oh wow. Insanely good, very cute vibe, will definitely be coming back!

Emma B.

Yelp
Best brunch in the area! It also has great ambience and friendly staff. Would recommend!

Yelp
Every dish was well executed and tasty, if not spectacular. Chimichurri steak was our favorite. Cute place and they do a happy hour

Matt S.

Yelp
One order wrong in multiple ways. The other order correct but just not tasty. The staff member who sat us and waited on us - obviously thought she had better things to do. I like to give people the benefit of the doubt but she was repeatedly rude and unfriendly. Sorry guys, a few tweaks sorely needed.

Yelp
i got locked out of my place for 6-10 and had to take refuge with my senior dog Marvin. 85 degrees and I didn't have to ask they brought water right away and an ice pack a few hours later for his side. we stayed on our little hit outside on the street lol. Bartender checked on me in the order of expected service. wine wasn't empty, food was asked if was good, and standard steps. Appreciate the actual service. I ordered the mashed potatoes and chicken schnitzel. Delicious and came out hot. What else can you ask for? Third time here and great location and ambiance. Dog friendly outside and cool local spot! -Your neighbor Tiff
