Cartford Inn

"This riverside pub stands beside a small toll bridge and comes with a deli, an art gallery, a farm shop, and 5 greenhouses for all-year dining. Cooking is gutsy and many of the tried-and-tested classics come with a twist. The owner played a big part in the interior design, particularly the boutique bedrooms." - Michelin Inspector

Absolutely dreamy stay in Robins Nest, especially if you love interior design. A wonderful mix of rustic and contemporary design. We came to relax and switch off and we did just that! Stunning views, slow pace, fresh air, lovely walks and beautiful food. Enjoyed chatting with the team and bought some gorgeous accessories from the wonderful interiors shop. Highly recommend this place. A credit to its owners.

We chose to take the family to The Cartford Inn for my special birthday celebration.|We took the private dining option in the lovely River House room which was beautifully decorated with fabulous flowers. The food was plentiful, beautifully presented and delicious, served by staff who can't do enough for you . All the bedrooms were fantastic, all very quirky and each was very different. Me and my husband chose the Robins Nest lodge which is an amazing space with every luxury and beautiful views down the curve of the river. The whole experience was perfect and we whole heartedly recommend this very special place.

So the Cartford inn was recommended to us by one of our foodie friends who travels far and wide to enjoy culinary delights.|So with great anticipation4 of us booked to enjoy an evening meal.|On arrival staff were friendly greeted us and directed us to our table.|Personally I ordered braised oxtail and beef skirt in real ale suet pudding, mash, beetroot and red wine jus, whilst it was nice it was nothing special and portions quite small, see photo.|Wife ordered a Sunday roast dinner with beef, on trying to cut the beef it was of varying thicknesses and tough and chewy, we informed the waiter who asked if we wanted to change it or like to try a steak knife, we tried the steak knife but still un edible, after the knife arrived we didn’t see the waiter again until everyone had finished, all except my wife who had left 75% of the beef.|Other 2 orders placed was corn fed chicken breast which came with a croquette, and a sea bream which I think came off a daily special.|Overall the food was ok at best, portions were quite small and at the price didn’t represent good value for money, the worst part came when we got the bill, they not only had left the full cost of the beef on but had also added a 10% £15 service charge onto the bill, I questioned why I’d not seen the service charge on the menu and I was informed it was not compulsory yet they had added it to our bill.|I refused the service charge and explained calmly to the waiter that whilst it’s not his fault the beef was of poor quality or not cooked correctly I’m not passing a tip when I’m not satisfied.|We all know that on occasion things can go slightly wrong and we all accept that, but it’s how you deal with the situation that matters.

Our fourth visit to this wonderful place .We love everything about it .Great location . Funky bedrooms wonderful staff and amazing food . Have to say a few words about Evia who greeted us this time and quickly offered to take my suitcase up to the top floor .I mention this because we had stayed in a very fine Country house just before and there was no lift .No offer of help given by the man who greeted us .we found all the staff to be professional and friendly

The restaurant boasts a stunning location with fabulous views, and the ambiance is undeniably charming. Unfortunately, the food did not match the high expectations set by the surroundings. The starters were enjoyable and well-prepared, offering a promising start to the meal. However, the mains were disappointing. The Braised Oxtail & Beef Skirt in Real Ale Suet Pudding was beautifully presented, but unfortunately, the pastry was undercooked, and the meat was dry. At £25, it felt significantly overpriced for the quality delivered. Similarly, the Confit Lancashire Lamb Shoulder was also dry and lacked moisture. Vegetables were minimal, and overall, the dish did not justify its £28 price tag. While the setting is impressive, the food failed to deliver in both execution and value. It’s a real shame, as this restaurant has the potential to offer an exceptional dining experience if the kitchen matched the standard set by the atmosphere.

Met up with family and had a top class meal with lovely river views. Not your standard pub grub. High quality serving locally produced food and it was refreshing to be served a quality meal at a reasonable price.

Amazing birthday dinner yesterday! I’ve been here lots of time and always been impressed with the food, the service and the drinks. We visited last night a group of 8, we had a mixture of starters, some had the Sunday roast and some had main meals, everything was exceptional! The roast was the best I’ve had, especially the beef it was cooked to perfection :) thank you so much, we will always be back!

The place that keeps on giving time and time again. I could eat here twice a day everyday of my life and not get bored. Its been amazing since day 1. Great service, fantastic food and scenery that changes every hour of the day. The perfect destination for a quick bite or a nice meal for 2 with the partner.

Yelp
This restaurant had one of the most creative menus one can see and beautiful decor. I ordered the venison sausage which was a little dry for me if it balanced well with the fruit sauce that accompanied it.

Yelp
This pub was like a homey fairytale. Overlooking the river, it's got quaint little alcoves and picture-perfect corners with light fixtures and benches. The inside is completely decorated in mushrooms from top to bottom, and if you stay on the grounds you can choose from modern cabins or the look of the inn itself. It's such a lovely property and I look forward to exploring more in the future. For dinner, we ordered the seafood platter to start, which comes with all sorts of crustaceans and fish. For our starters, we selected the Jacobs ladder, skate cheeks, and scallops. All were quite delicious. For the mains, we ordered the fish pie, duck breast, and venison. Heavenly fish pie and the other mains were done so well. We finished off with the house dessert and a banana dish. Perfect end to the meal I must say! Highly recommend dropping by if you're in the area.

Yelp
I had two nights available when I recently came to visit family in the UK, and after my last meal a year ago - booked both nights here. Yes, its is that good. You leave wondering what this, or that, or oohh, that could or would have tasted like. At decent if not very reasonable prices, a nice winelist, lovely pub area, rural setting and fantastic menu that consistently delivers - I will consistently visit whenever I come 'home'. What a great bistro pub/restaurant. A little gem in Lancashire.

Yelp
A total wow. Says Michelin. Says Sawdays. Says me! 5 nights was a solid amount of time to sample the food and hospitality. Freshly baked croissants in the morning. Elegant, locally-sourced dinners (try the oxtail!). Beautiful, locally made art everywhere. Roaring fire for dinner. Charm-packed Christmas decorations from floor to ceiling. REN bath products. Giddy Kipper - an ale brewed just for Cartford! River views. So many special details. And an element of magic. Sipping a beer at the bar one night, I happened to meet a a glassblower and learned that all of the handblown mushrooms were his. I later learned that the breakfast server is the photographer whose images adorn both the bedrooms and ground floor. The best home away from home is a home that's also a home for the locals. The Inn was originally a 17th century coaching inn - the decor is the perfect mix of old school vs. some wildly contemporary pieces. Assuming you have a car, this is an amazing launch pad to explore Lancaster, Garstang, coastal beach towns, etc. I survived without a car, but taxis added up quickly and the bus schedule was a bit of a challenge to figure out.

Yelp
Gastropub with accommodation, located by a toll bridge over the River Wyre in the village of Little Eccleston. Comfortable and stylish interior, designed by someone who has a real interest in mushrooms. Although the Cartford is very popular, I've found the quality of the food to be extremely labile, sometimes very good, often just okay, and once totally inedible. But I have friends who eat there regularly and love it. I've had bar staff chat to each other while serving me with more-than-averagely-expensive wine, a waiter sniffily claiming raw broccolli was 'al dente', and half an hour before closing time one Sunday, when we were the last group in the pub, we found the pub being closed up around us and we were refused the tea and coffee we requested. It's a shame because I want to like The Cartford - I've been going there in all it's incarnations since I was at school. It is currently having a major extension and makeover, so perhaps when that opens ....? I'd love to have the same experience of the pub that my friends seem to have. I'll keep you posted.
