East Nashville’s The Catio is a Vegan Bakery With a Cat Cafe - Eater Nashville

"Beca-Lew Skeels of Leeuw Bake Shop is opening a new venue called The Catio in East Nashville. This new establishment will serve as a vegan bakery, cat lounge, and cat-safe plant-purveyor. Partnering with Anna Talaga, they hope to open in October. The venue will cater to sweet-toothed vegans and professional cat cuddlers, featuring Skeels' famous vegan baked goods. The Catio will have separate entrances for bakery customers and cat lovers." - Delia Jo Ramsey

We love this place! I wish I could just live there. We were in town for only 7 days and visited this place on 4 of those days. It might have been catastrophic for our finances if we lived close by but it would be wonderful for our mental health. This is NOT a cat café. They do have some beverages available for purchase but just like what you'd find at a gas station or the like. This is a place to hangout and vibe with something like 80 adaptable cats & kittens. Be warned, you will likely find a new favorite friend on every visit and could become the new crazy cat person in your neighborhood if you aren't careful. I absolutely fell madly in love with a new cat on every visit. Lastly, it was very clear to me that this is an LGBTQ friendly place. This is a place of love and acceptance for all types of people with love to share. If that is you, and you aren't allergic to cats, this place is for you. If you are not an accepting & loving person, you probably should steer clear of cats.

We absolutely adored our visit here! It’s a spacious and clean place that really takes care of the cats. They all looked happy and ready for love! Definitely check it out. The gift shop is adorable too. They have canned drinks for sale too.

Google
I always make time to visit local cat cafes when I travel, and The Catio is such a sweet place. As a lover of older cats, I appreciated how they had a designated room for senior cats, cats with disabilities/special needs, and cats who get easily overstimulated. I fell in love with a senior kitty who looks just like my own. She got very attached to my partner and wouldn't leave his lap for most of our reservation. She stole our hearts! Highly recommend this spot!

Had a great time visiting The Catio with some friends and our son! It was a special vendor day, so not sure what the set up is like normally, but it was great! So many cute kitties to love on and play with. They have lots of cute items in their store front as well!

Google
My boyfriend had looked up things to do around and found this cat lounge. I’ve always wanted to go to one and it was amazing! I fell in love with all the cats there’s so many rooms to go to! There’s a 30 minute option but you wouldn’t have enough time to pet all the cats so go for the hour option I’m glad we did! Please adopt and support I wish I had more room to adopt another but we already have 3 bad boys at the house.

Anna Grace Shepherd

Google
My husband and I have adopted two cats from this location. I would take 10 more if he’d let me! You pay a small fee to play/sit with the cats, and they have a wide variety. The payment by the way goes to the cats—medicine, food, etc. Please adopt from here!!!

Google
My family went to the cat lounge on Saturday and had the best time. The staff were friendly and we loved having time to visit with all of the cats. We had plenty of time to take pictures and pet several cats. Some cats even wanted to play with the toys. We got lots of cat snuggles and will definitely visit again the next time we are in Nashville! I definitely recommend visiting this cat lounge.

Google
This was our first time at Catio Cafe. It was so much fun! Soooo many kittens and cats to play with!!! The venue is much bigger than I expected. We will definitely go back!

Yelp
I can't say enough good things about Catio Cat Lounge and honestly don't know what I would've done without them! They've taken in two of my rescue kitties and go above and beyond with the level of care they give and wonderful thriving environment they provide for all the cats. They even have a special needs and senior kitties room to give extra care for those that need it! Please support this wonderful organization by visiting the kitties for a low fee or by donating supplies as they depend on these things to be able to continue to help more cats in need.

Yelp
First the good... Yes I love the open cat atmosphere, The Catio offers a kitty heaven for an admission fee. If all you want out of your visit is a drink and some furry love, then you might enjoy your visit. However, my one star award here goes squarely to an apathetic staff and anonymous "adoption board" who decides if a kitten or cat you fall in love with is really coming home with you. If you express interest in adopting, you get handed a mobile phone link to a questionnaire that asks such questions about other cats you have, whether they are indoor cats, vaccinated, spayed-neutered, etc. Any "wrong" answer will disqualify you it seems and you are never told exactly why. All my cats are indoor-only, so circumstances like an 9 year old adult female rescue who really is to old to be spayed cannot be explained nor is an opportunity given. Likewise on Vaccinations... Past the first year, unless the kitties are going to be exposed, some discretion on the pet owner makes more since. It seems from other feedback here that I'm not the only one who has had this issue with The Catio. I really think The Catio wants to keep their sweetest cats as an "attraction" to draw visits as opposed to finding loving forever homes for them. It's really a tragedy and IMO cruel to both the animal and people searching for a pet.

Sarah C.

Yelp
Who doesn't love a room full of cats & kittens! Staff is friendly and clearly loves the cats. Please consider supporting them and adopting their amazing cats!

Yelp
Unique place for a friend hang-out, date or if you want to surround yourself with cats. It is around $8 for half an hour per person. There are two rooms, the main room and the calm room (senior cats). There are couches and chairs for you to sit or you can sit on the floor and hope a cat would sit on your lap. This unfortunately did not happen for me but I did see someone experience this the entire time I was there. The main receptionist was nice and explained the rules (no picking up cats and wash your hands/use hand sanitizers in between visiting the two rooms). There are bottled beverages and keurig drinks for sale.
google avatar

Kayla H.

Yelp
All of the cats were so sweet and appeared to be well taken care of! There are little boards in each room with the names and ages of the senior cats and kittens so you can feel a little closer to each of them, and when you sit down there a good chance a few cats are going to run up to you for some loving
google avatar

Joe C.

Yelp
It is a place where you can enjoy and relax with the cats. The entrance price seems expensive, but the drinks are relatively cheap. I would have liked to see a small drink/soda included in the admission price. Highly recommended for cat lovers.

Yelp
Petting precious purrs Kittens have healing powers 12 bucks an hour Like humans, some bite All can love, just pet em right Not the butt, good night Whiskers on my cheeks Sandy licks, claw digging hugs Dreams of mews tonight

Yelp
Really cute cats and I love the stand and the food is awesome And the service there is good.

Yelp
What a fun way to de-stress & boost your serotonin. I loved meeting all the cats and kittens and playing with them, even when most of them were sleepy (I think we were the first group after nap time!). There's so many toys, beds, brushes, and contraptions for them to play in and for you to play with them. The $12 for an hour admission is super worth going to these kitties getting what they need and supporting the staff. I have two cats of my own but it's always great to meet new fur babies and encourage others to adopt. Definitely worth the time & trip!
google avatar

Kendall R.

Yelp
I've been here before for kitty play time, but last week I came for kitty yoga and it was so fun! They offer kitty yoga the first and third Thursday of the month and tickets can be purchased for $15 each on their website. I believe kitty play time is also $15 and they always have so many cats around. All of the cats are rescued & adoptable. The people who work here are saints!
google avatar

Tonya B.

Yelp
The Catio ROCKS!!! The staff is wonderful, the furbabies are well taken care of. You can totally relax and just enjoy!!

Yelp
Manager lied re:bonding of 2 cats and discriminated against the customers. Poor service.
google avatar

Roxan D.

Yelp
Very rude workers, idk what is wrong with them, but they refused to give my friend a cat she really likes bc she is a medical student!!!!! I have a cat myself and my cat gets 24/7 attentions and i give my cat real food and not dry food bc i am a medical student and know how bad dry food is. I feel sorry for those cats.
google avatar

Yelp
What a great way to spend time with furry friends and get to know them before adopting. Even if you aren't adopting, this is a great spot to hang out with cool cats! This place is heaven on earth. Admission is 100% worth the price!
google avatar

Mary C.

Yelp
There were about 20 cats the day I went. They have 2 rooms to roam which was a good size. Tons of beds, toys, scratching posts. Set up very nicely. You can tell they are well cared for. All are up for adoption or you can just spend some time playing with them. Great businesses ness wonderful work saving cats.

Yelp
I love the Catio! I just moved here and don't have a cat of my own, so I love coming here to get some cat time in. The staff is relaxed and helpful, and the price of entry isn't bad considering that it goes towards helping out the kitties. There's plenty of cats to choose from to hang out with. I am glad that they limit the amount of guests that can be in there at a time so as to not overwhelm the cats. The facility is clean (a hard task considering!) and the cats are obviously well tended to. I also love that they mark the cats ears with colors and then put them on the bulletin board so you can know who you're holding, how old they are, etc. Definitely recommend as a fun activity or way to meet your new best friend!

Yelp
The Catio Cat Lounge is a wonderful place to play with some adoptable felines. Spend some money and to help with the funding of this fun spot. I would recommend anyone who's looking to adopt a cat to come here first and interact with a few of the kitties. Maybe come a couple of different times before making a choice. Props to the employees / volunteers who are constantly cleaning and monitoring.

Yelp
Being in rescue I love to get my kitty pics even when I'm on vacation. This place was the closest to my hotel so we booked a reservation. All the kitties were in a good mood with a couple that were not but these are cats and it's to be expected. The establishment was clean and super fun for both humans and cats alike. Someone was adopting a kitty as I was there and it was such a wonderful feeling. They have a fabulous selection of shirts to purchase as souvenirs and snacks and drinks as well. A nice low key hour to spend on your vacation when you want to break from the tourist madness.
google avatar

Yelp
This was the best accidental find of the whole Nashville trip! You pay $6 for a half an hour or $12 for an hour of time to play/hang with the cats. They are very friendly and super adorable! This is a must see if you're in the Nashville area!

Yelp
I had a day full of anxiety and I was just driving by and I saw this place I knew I had to check it out. It was the most wonderful place I've ever been to the staff is friendly and the cats are so dang cute. I can't wait to come back

Marianne C.

Yelp
This is the midt incredible concept with catscand humans interacting in such a positive way.

Alexis B.

Yelp
The cats were so perfect and cute and it's a great environment but the workers are awful. So incredibly rude and unprofessional.

Yelp
We bonded with a cat today and was prepared to take her home as a companion to our cat. We were told we would need to bring the vet records of our current cat and that they would want to speak to the vet putting our adoption on vet hold. We were told we couldn't adopt because of the other cat who we adopted from them a couple of years ago. Last time we came before this we bonded with a cat only to be told they decided no one could adopt that cat. This time we waited an hour after telling them we wanted to adopt and that we lived in a condo they said what if the cat gets out? If the cat got out she would BD in a hallway on the 3rd floor. This company doesn't want to adopt cats. We left with no companion kitty for our lonely cat. What a scam this place is, good luck. I got the feeling we were being discriminated against.

Sarah S.

Yelp
The staff were very friendly and the cats were very well behaved! I tried a tea but I can't remember the name of it. But the tea tasted great too! I also really love the cafe's theme and all the decor.
google avatar

Rob S.

Yelp
Really cool what these guys are doing! They have a nice sized location that allows customers to come in and interact with potential adoptees. We didn't have an appointment, so we weren't able to go in to the play room with the cats. Looks like they keep pretty busy and it's recommended to call ahead and make an appointment. Nor sure what the adoption fees are, so this review is really just related to the operations and space they have. Employees are very friendly and the space is well kept/clean. They also have a small space in front that is utilized for Catio Merchandise....they had some cool shirts to select from. From their website: All cats & kittens at The Catio are rescued from Nashville Cat Rescue before they come to us. The Catio does not intake cats directly. For more information about Nashville Cat Rescue and their rescue work, please visit their website! So, they don't accept drop offs, all of the cats that are available here have come from the Nashville Cat Rescue. Hopefully Dogio Dog Lounge is in the works!!

Yelp
My cat died of an aggressive cancer. I was totally devastated, but I knew my 12.5 year old cat needed someone to bond with again. I opted to try Catio to find someone that would be a good match. Within 5 minutes, I was quickly bonded with Levi (now Arlo). Arlo was sweet and loving. He approached me with such a sweet demeanor and I spent 2 hours with him. I kept looking at kittens thinking that maybe that was the route I wanted, but I couldn't sway myself away from Arlo. He was 1 year and 4 months old and just melted in my arms as he purred. I was very appreciative of the Catio staff. They made the adoption seemly and very easy. They knew the personalities of each cat and provided me the information I needed for Arlo to get vetted. It is totally worth a visit if you want a more personal experience with cats while trying to find your loving kitty pet. Sure, looking at the photos of the cats is one thing, but interaction is more interactive and helps you get a true feel for the personality of the cat you're about to adopt.

Yelp
My friend made an appointment for us to play with the cats at The Catio Cat Lounge. Almost all of the cats were comfortable with human interaction. The cats that were not comfortable hid from us. I was very appreciative by the fact that the cats are welcome to roam around in a vast space. There was also plenty of food, water, and toys available to the cats. I hope all the cats and kittens here find lovely homes. Each cat has a name and a short biography of their personalities. The Catio Cat Lounge is an ideal place for cat lovers to adopt a furry friend into their lives.
google avatar

Julie B.

Yelp
The Catio Lounge is incredible. The staff are the most caring, hardworking people and they care for each individual cat like their own. The kitties themselves are wonderful. There's a wide range of cats to choose from but you could close your eyes and point and take home your best friend. If you're considering adopting from or just hanging out with some of the shy kitties at The Catio Lounge, don't wait, it's so worth it :)

Yelp
Lovely staff lovely cats !! I enjoyed it so much here honestly, I always have a good time. I also recommend showing up to the events :)

Yelp
This place is amazing if you're wanting to hang out with some cats for a little bit. The cats have so many toys to play with and want to play with you. The best part, is you can adopt them! My husband and I got our newest furry addition from here. They are so serious about their adoptions and followed up a few weeks later to check in and make sure everything was going well with our new furry companion. Such a great place that I highly recommend adopting from.
google avatar

Yelp
What an awesome place! I visited the Catio for an hour of "kitty time" a few days ago and was in absolute heaven. There are so many tiny kittens and sweet older cats to play with! I was surprised by how friendly they all were and how unabashed they were around total strangers. Such a fun activity!
google avatar

Kitty G.

Yelp
I'm in Nashville on business and this was an easy stop to fit in. The people are pawesome and get the "cat person" thing. The cats were flipping adorable! Adult kitties, kittens, and what I call "Catens"-half cat half kitten. Some were playing, some were sleeping, some were curious and affectionate others a bit reserved. I came upon a kitten just hanging out and purring! There's a lot of room and toys and cool sleeping spots. If you are missing your kitty, definitely make a stop. There's a fee, but it raises funds.
google avatar

Becca G.

Yelp
The Catio exists to fill that kitty void in your lives - all while supporting an amazing local charity and saving lives. First off, the space is beautiful and huge! Seriously, there are 20+ cats free roaming in the lounge and it never feels crowded. The staff do a wonderful job of keeping The Catio clean and you don't even notice the litter boxes because there is no smell and they are hidden in furniture. There are lots of toys and cat trees so guests can interact with the kitties and they pick the most social and outgoing cats to come to the lounge. The Catio has special events every week such as movie nights, yoga, children's book readings, etc. and you will see patrons of all ages enjoying some downtime with the kitties. The admission price is very reasonable and much needed to help feed and care for the kitties, pay the staff, and maintain the space. All kitties come from local 501(c)(3) nonprofit Nashville Cat Rescue and are available for adoption. The adoption fees go right back to the rescue so you are supporting a great cause while having fun. I highly recommend The Catio to anyone looking for a fun and relaxing place to interact with friendly kitties. It is a great option for those looking to adopt or maybe someone who can't have a pet and wants to get their cat fix.
google avatar

Carri S.

Yelp
This place is great. I'm someone who can't have cats at home but my daughter is obsessed with them. We've been coming here once a week since we learned about it and she still never gets tired of being there. The staff is friendly, the cats are cute, and, it smells nice.
google avatar

Soseh K.

Yelp
Really cute cat cafe we came across after going axe throwing in the same shopping center. Staff was friendly and they have lots of drinks to choose from.

Leslie A.

Yelp
Workers are rude and ignore you. If you want a cat, go to a shelter. These cats will be adopted by some rich snobby families that meet their bizarre expectations. If you're interested in a cat there, they will make it extra difficult to adopt. They could care less who adopts them as long as they meet their expectations. Also, be weary of people's children following you around when you meet the cats - if you like one, communicate that immediately to the staff. Children will grab whichever cat you are bonding with, with zero supervision. I lost my elderly animal recently to age and went in there to heal and came out feeling gross. I was recommended this place but it has gone downhill.
google avatar

Miro B.

Yelp
We were across the lounge at an axe throwing place (also fun) and someone there mentioned the Cation Lounge and we were all in! I love that they have some local beers too while you hang out with cats. It's a unique experience and the cats are awesome!

Sidney G.

Yelp
Would give a zero star review if I could. Came to this place looking to adopt a cat. I come in and was shown around and started bonding with the cats. There was one cat in particular that i bonded with quite well, and was dead-set on giving a forever home. I start talking with whoever was working, and I was told that I probably wouldn't be able to adopt that cat just because I already have another cat that sometimes goes outside. This was said after the decision was made and after I had already bonded quite well with one particular cat. I was also told that if the adoption was approved, that I would have to sign a contact saying that I would not leave my cat outside alone, which I agreed with and thought was a good idea. I was told to come back in the morning to speak to a manager about the potential adoption. Well i'm glad that I didn't make the hour drive again and instead called ahead. I was told that I could not adopt any cat that they have just because I have another cat. It's very sad that this business wants to find these cats a forever home, but then rejects good homes due to unrealistic expectations. I will definitely continue to spread the word about this place, and i wouldn't be surprised if this business ran itself into the ground.

Morgan S.

Yelp
Staff was great and the kitties were so cute! The place is clean and there are plenty of toys to play with the kittens. I highly recommend it.

Sarah S.

Yelp
The Catio is such a treasure! It's a super fun place to hang out, study, decompress or start your night out on the town. They have snacks, drinks(yes- alcohol!), and great merch. All of the cats are formerly homeless or abandoned and have been given vet care, socialization and are available for adoption. The great staff knows the personality of the cats so they can guide you if you are searching for you new best friend. The Catio is always having events like Yoga with the cats, wine tastings, kids activities, etc. It's the perfect hang out for singles or families. Easy access in and out and plenty of parking!

Samantha R.

Yelp
Let me get the one negative out of the way. I was hoping to come in and find some coffee and a sandwich or something because of it being a cafe. So I am confused on the Cafe part. That being said the young girl that worked up front was very sweet she went in the room with me. When she opened the door it was a WOW factor. It is amazing and all the sweet babies running around. I could live here. Lot's some space, the place was very clean and I did not smell litter boxes. The young lady answered every question I had a bout every cat and she knew them all. I really had an amazing time. I will be coming back and I will tell all of my friends and family about the place. If you are looking for a cat place to go and chill, have fun or adopt this is the place. I am so excited for you guys and thank you for what you do.
