"A former Pure Oil gas station helps Mobilians fuel up on the finer things thanks to its new specialty cheese shop and restaurant. Founded in 2018 by Kristi and Bubba Barber (now owned by Freddie Guinness and Stephenie Funaro-Guinness), the European-style cheese shop serves charcuterie boards, cheese-forward sandwiches, and wood-fired pizzas that are best enjoyed on the breezy patio. Reservations are highly recommended at this St. Louis Street favorite. Closed on Sundays." - Sarah Bisacca

Google
Beautiful place! So charming and peaceful. The food (specifically the spinach and feta dip) is delicious! Be prepared to spend a good chunch for smaller portions, but they are so helpful and holding a brunch there was easy as they allowed decorating and reserving!

Mitchell Lewandowski

Google
we are visiting from Indianapolis and my girlfriend found this place it is totally amazing five star start to finish! The creamy carrot ginger soup get it by the bowl delicious! Mushroom and Swiss out of this world! Rose The waitress did such a good job we were the last people to come in tonight and she treated us like we were the first, kind and very knowledgeable of the menu I would definitely put this on my list for places to stop 💪🙌

Janie Howard

Google
Spinach/Artichoke/feta dip was amazing as well as the cup of soup of the day which was potato, connecuh with kale. I was expecting a creamy soup but was delightfully surprised it was more "brothy" and delicious! I also highly recommend the portobello mushroom sandwich.

We placed a to go order from the brewery next door. I received a text that my food was ready so my husband walked over to pick it up. When he arrived, they asked if he had received a text, he said yes, they told him it would be another 5-7 minutes and he could not wait in their building so he walked back to the brewery. When he returned, the food still was not ready but the staff did allow him to wait inside, however, they were never friendly or welcoming. I have always loved the food at this establishment since it opened but the service and friendliness has definitely suffered under new management.

Google
The service was great. As well as the flavors... however, it's pricey for what is offered. I think it would be good for meeting a few friends to share a charcuterie board.

Google
Everytime I through Mobile, I have wanted to stop at The Cheese Cottage. I finally made it and WOW....it was amazing. Downtown historic area was cool and sitting outside on the patio was nice. I had one of the many cheese boards and a pizza. The goat cheese w/rosemary and honey was the best but the dragon cheese was a close 2nd. I will be back to try the rest of the menu.

Google
Delicious food, terrible service. Only outdoor seating. Cold day with patrons jockeying for tables in the sun because owners wouldn’t turn on outdoor heaters. Took 45 min to receive a soup, house/green salad and a turkey sandwich on a croissant. No communication about the kitchen being backed up, if it even was backed up.

Bonique Turner

Google
Food was delicious and filling. I went on a Sunday and had the club sandwich and a side salad. The coffee was truly an experience! It’s all outdoors, so be mindful of what comes with that like flies and heat. But overall, the food and atmosphere were amazing!

Marc C.

Yelp
The charcuterie board was fantastic. More than enough for two people. They had a rose lemonade that was a nice surprise. The Hungarian mushroom stew had amazing flavor. The service is very laid back and friendly. Love their attitude! The fact that it is all outdoor seating threw me off at first but it is super cute and comfortable.

Lauren O.

Yelp
I wasn't sure what to expect researching this place! We really aren't cheese snobs but were looking for somewhere for a good sandwich. We ordered and sat at an outdoor table underneath a canopy type thing. I really didn't see any indoor tables. I got the balsamic chicken salad on a Crossaint , I've never had chicken salad like this but it was SO GOOD. My husband got the Italian, he loved it. Perfect combo of ingredients. It started POURING so we were happy to be under something and they even managed to pull something down on the side so the rain wouldn't hit us sideways. It was a wicked storm actually but the staff seemed used to it and they acted SO QUICK to make sure everyone could eat comfortably! With only outdoor seating I still loved the ambiance. I hope to return to try more!

Kevin B.

Yelp
Such a neat little sandwich shop in Mobile. FYI they only have outdoor seating but it's covered by umbrellas and a big overhang for shade from the sun on a hot day. We also happened to be there during a passing rainstorm and the staff was professional making sure everyone was covered and still making sure people got their food, didn't miss a beat! Now to the food! I ordered their Italian sandwich which featured capocollo, salami, banana peppers, arugula and some provolone cheese on Cuban bread. Sandwich was very tasty, good portion and loved the banana peppers as a nice touch. Also loved the way the cheese melted onto the sandwich. My partner got the Balsamic Chicken Salad Croissant. Full of flavor and fresh, she has never had a chicken salad sandwich with balsamic on it before, she said it was one of the best things she ate in Mobile.

Kristin N.

Yelp
Always a great choice. I have never been disappointed here. The wine, the dessert, the Georgian appetizer. Amazing. Try the specials!

Stacy J.

Yelp
This place is my fave! I go to Mobile just to get a chance to stop by and get a board. Have loved everyone I've gotten. The spinach feta dip is delicious as well.

Yelp
This is my second visit. Food was just as good this time as it was last time. Amazing. Service is phenomenal. Our waitress was very knowledgeable and extra helpful. It was nice and cool outside and there was a woman playing guitar and singing next to us and she set the move for a very relaxed atmosphere.

Kelley G.

Yelp
Quaint little sandwich shop with outdoor only seating. Charcuterie, wine, and sandwiches under the umbrella on a sunny day with good friends equals a perfect way to spend a sunny day. Food is always delicious, service is typically a little slow but pleasant. We love Cheese Cottage!

Barnes R.

Yelp
Great patio with a fire pit, live music on the weekends and right next door to Old Majestic. Sandwiches and cheese boards are great! Just a fun place to hang out with a group or on an afternoon date.

Sav G.

Yelp
LOVE this place. Such a cute outdoor area for a nice day. The first of the month brunch is very tasty and they do a great mimosa deal with champagne by the bottle. Fast service and they will do a table reservation.

Juliet H.

Yelp
OMG! How in THE entire heck have I never reviewed The Cheese Cottage? I live for this place! Kristi and the crew are literally fantastic, and the cheese (good Lord, the cheese) is phenomenal. Along with that, their sandwiches (actually, their menu on the whole), and wine selection is excellent! Sidebar: If you have never been to raclette night, you're doing it ALL wrong! That's honestly where I'd like to spend the rest of my days. Finally, shouts out to the amazing Sunday brunch menu, and salmon lox bagel that I'm literally obsessed with. In current events: CC has closed for the social distancing period, but when they reopen, I'll be back there with bells on!

Yelp
Super cool, little place with lots of character. I never knew this place existed and stumbled upon it when I was looking for the Old Majestic Brewing Company, which is right next to it! They have a fair amount of outside dining. We had a couple sandwiches for dinner, I had the turkey with cranberry slaw and my wife had the chicken salad with pimento cheese. Both sandwiches were awesome and came with a side of potato chips. They have a nice selection of wine by the half bottle and several gourmet items you can purchase to go. In addition to the sandwiches they offer charcuterie & cheese boards. Service was friendly and the food was served quickly. Looking forward to a return visit!

Nilah R.

Yelp
Perfect ambience, delicious pimento goat cheese sandwich with bacon jam, and I am now hooked on the rose lemonade they served.

Olivia A.

Yelp
We weren't greeted, barely acknowledged, so we ordered our food to go. Took so long to get our food, we decided to eat there with our to go boxes. The waitress refused to wait on us and we were totally ignored. They had a plastic water bucket that stayed in the hot sun all day to help ourselves to complimentary water. Yuck! But no service, no cold beverage. Wouldn't go back, rude service!

Laura M.

Yelp
Quaint little cottage with great charcuterie boards! Covered dog friendly patio as well.

Logan W.

Yelp
Beautiful little restaurant. It's all outside so be prepared for that. They only do brunch once a month but we were still able to get mimosas! It was very cute and food was delicious

Mya F.

Yelp
One of my favorite restaurants in downtown Mobile. I love charcuterie and my boyfriend and I always split a board. We did get a sandwich tho and weren't crazy about it. Just stick with the charcuterie!!!

Zoë F.

Yelp
I love this place! It is so cute and the food is amazing! I love to come here in sunday's and get a cheese board with my fam. They have many options other then cheese board such as pizza, soup and sandwiches and all of it is soo good! I highly recommend this place to everyone!!

Jan B.

Yelp
Stopped by with a friend early on a Saturday afternoon. Quickly seated outside. Our waitress was very attentive even while serving several other tables. Water was served, wine came out quickly with a chill pack...nice touch on a warm day. Ordered a large salad to split and a delicious board! Goat cheese with honey, prosciutto, pickled Brussel sprouts and many other delights were scrumptious! And then...the poached pear with Mascarpone! A completely delightful experience! We will be back soon!

Kaisey S.

Yelp
This place is a gem in Mobile! Have eaten here twice and left happy and satisfied! Amazing sandwiches, cheese, and wine

Elizabeth C.

Yelp
The atmosphere was great - outdoor seating and self serve water, but the service was subpar. After placing our food and drink orders, we were served our wine, but the cheese board took over an hour to come out. We were reassured a couple of times that our board was being prepared, but other tables near us were receiving their boards and food - so, I can't help but think that something went wrong. After more than an hour of waiting, I went inside to check on the cheese board order and was told that it would take 5 more minutes. The cheese board arrived, but our bottles of wine - which we had hoped to drink with the cheese board - were already empty. One of the servers brought a sample of one wine for the others at my table to taste after we all brought up that the cheese board had taken so long to come out that we had drank all of the wine, but she didn't bring me one, even though I was also out of wine. It may have been because I had ordered a half bottle of white wine while the others shared a bottle of red, but I was certainly disappointed that she hadn't asked if I would also like to try it. The cheese board was good, but there are other places in Mobile to go for cheese and wine that have much better service than I experienced that night.

Brittney B.

Yelp
Five stars definitely!! If you love a good charcuterie board, this is your place for sure.

Karin B.

Yelp
Soooo good! Great service! Sandwiches, soups salads and drinks. Highly recommend and will return!

Akirea W.

Yelp
Had a lovely time here minus the heat from the outdoor seating. The food was fresh and delicious. The service was alright could have been better.

Laura H.

Yelp
Love the food and wine choices. The staff is super. This is really an outdoor venue with about 1/2 the tables under cover and most of the others under umbrella. So prepare and dress for the weather.

Chris F.

Yelp
I love the cheese and meats. All seating is outdoors and the flies are horrific. Their trash is outdoors near the seating are. After a few minute we had to leave.

Zee A.

Yelp
Great place! Delicious my family loved it! An assortment of cheeses, crackers, bread, jam and honey. What more can I say if you like this kind of thing definitely check it out.

Erin S.

Yelp
The Cheese Cottage is a must-see when you're in the Mobile area. The renovated space inside is very cute, and the covered patio is a beautiful spot to enjoy nice weather. I stopped in on a Friday and found plenty of parking nearby. I tried the pimento goat cheese and Gouda bacon jam sandwich. This was a new combo for me, but it really worked well and the chips were tasty too. The owner and staff were also very friendly, and the meats I took home for friends got great reviews. Definitely recommend stopping in!

Ashley H.

Yelp
This place is adorable, inside and out! It even looks like what I envision a little mouse house would look like. We stopped in today to pick up some dips to go. We decided on the muffuletta dip and the Mediterranean dip. They're made right there in the little mouse house and I couldn't make the dips myself for the prices they sell for, and mine wouldn't taste nearly as good. Of course, the cheese selection is out of this world. You can buy just the cheese or enjoy a perfectly put together charcuterie board. I don't know whether or not the owner, Kristi, is a fromager, but she's sure a gift sent down straight out of heaven to bring us a cheesy paradise right here in Mobile ("Moh-BEEL"). They also sell crackers, cheese straws, wine and beer. They serve specialty lunches during the week and they serve brunch on Sunday. In addition to the small tables inside, there's a huge covered patio outside with plenty of seating. Whether you're looking for a place to go for date night, girls night out, lunch, or simply just stopping in to pick up something to serve at a party, I highly recommend the little mouse house on St Louis Street!

Yelp
My wife and I both heard of this independently of one another. We compared notes and realized that we both wanted to try this place. Parking is limited street parking with additional parking if you take the empty building's parking across the road. The building is small, and there are only three small tables inside. There is ample outdoor seating, but as it was over 95° out, we opted to crowd into an inside table. The selection of cheese in the display was small. But I had a great laugh when I saw the Wensleydale and had to thank John Clease for that. The shop was quaint. Decorated very nicely. There is a fairly large selection of wines, some beers and a great array of cheese, salads and sandwiches. Brunch is on the Sunday that follows the estate sale across the road. We had seen the charcuterie before we came to the Cheese Cottage and had been waiting for a chance to try this one. We ordered a half - which was more than plenty for two. It was wonderful. I can't name all of the things but there was a dragon prosciutto that was to die for and I had never had triple cream Brie. It was wonderful on the bread, crackers and even on the wine poached pear. Just fantastic. When it is served, the staff will explain each item on the board. I had the duck breast prosciutto salad with a most wonderful raspberry vinaigrette. Absolutely wonderful and worth the trip alone. Just Wow! I had a San Pellegrino and the wife coffee. Total was $53. Now, don't get all worked up. I gladly paid that price for the experience. We were treated like family even though it was our first time there. We were thanked repeatedly for our patronage. You must try this pace if you ever have had any interest in the finer things in life. We will definitely be back.

Noelle B.

Yelp
I enjoyed this adorable wine and cheese cottage after shopping at the antique store on Saturday. This place is so quaint and precious - inside and out! I had the highly recommended sausage, kale and cauliflower soup with a grilled cheese sandwich. It was really yummy! In the case were beautiful dips for sale including a delicious looking Mediterranean dip! I cannot wait to go back and try more amazing options!

Kurt P.

Yelp
This is a great place for some amazing cheese. We went here because of a local recommendation. Charcuterie and wine and that was our lunch! The service was great, lots of information on the cheese and she helped us choose. If you love cheese you need to try this place out.

Michaela M.

Yelp
We ordered through Waitr and had it delivered, so I can't speak for the physical location or ambience, but this place is AMAZING! The Reuben was outstanding, as was the blueberry Brie sandwich (although a bit too sweet for a meal- better as an appetizer). We did a "build your own" cheese plate that came filled with fruit, crackers, bread, nuts, meats, and amazing cheeses! The presentation was wonderful, especially considering it was delivery. The highlight: a lemon goat cheesecake. YUM. the best dessert I've ever had. This place is phenomenal and it is my new favorite- make sure to check it out!

Lacey C.

Yelp
Heading back across the bay...we needed a quick bite and it wasn't freezing outside... I thought, "here's my chance to get the hubs to take me to the cheese cottage". Totally worked!! Food came out super quick, and it was lovely! We tried the Reuben and the Special of the day which was a Blueberry Brie Sandwich. I loved both! The Blueberry Brie was much more savory than I had expected. The Brie was very saltyish and the Blueberry wasn't super sweet. I really enjoyed it but I'm thinking I would like to try something else next time. I was wishing I'd gotten the Pimento cheese chicken salad. I tried that once when I came here alone. It was superb! I'll be back!

Anna N.

Yelp
Such a lovely place to day drink and grab a cheeseboard or tapa. Cute atmosphere with a very friendly staff.

Paige R.

Yelp
This place is amazing! Came for the Flaming Cheese and Pasta and was blown away! So good. Love the sandwiches and the cheese boards. It's all awesome!

Andy B.

Yelp
Had a great visit to the quaint downtown Cheese Cottage. Staff was SUPER friendly and accommodated our request to sit in the shade. The Charcuterie Board - I think mine was the Seasonal Board - was delicious with choice meats and cheeses. I asked for bacon jam because I never tried and it was DELISH! This was a quick stop-snack-chill for me and Mita but our brief stay was made even more enjoyable by the breeze on the patio/courtyard with some live music drifting over from the adjacent brewery. Great around venue setting!

Janet G.

Yelp
OMG! This is has got to be one of the best restaurants in Mobile. The wait staff is on top of their game and all the food is so amazing. If I lived in Mobile I would eat there every day! I had the oven roasted Turkey with cranberry slaw sandwich which was to die for. I was so full, but couldn't stop eating it. The Ultimate Four Cheese grilled cheese was also yummy and got a big thumbs up from my girlfriend. Wish they sold the jalapeño jam that was on it, but sadly they do not. Not all bad tho, just means we will have to visit again next time we are in Mobile!

Kristen T.

Yelp
Great food and great service. We had the board and different sandwiches. All were excellent. Great outdoor space.

Lori T.

Yelp
Great place for lunch. Has out door seating but it's covered with fans so didn't get to hot, the food was great, and it had live music. *Dog Friendly*

LaToya L.

Yelp
The Cheese Cottage is so cute! It reminds me of a doll cottage. The curb appeal is nice and the outdoor seating is so warm and inviting. The inside is she real chic and has a farmhouse feel. The staff (especially Meahgan) is very friendly and pleasant. I ordered the Ploughman's lunch to go and the plate was loaded with goodies. I could barely eat it all. I can't wait to revisit when I'm not in a rush to get back to work so I could unwind on the patio.

Shannon F.

Yelp
Great spot. Went on a Friday night during art walk and a music festival so a crowd was expected. It was indeed crowded, and we were told it would be 45 minutes for any food. I was surprised about a 45 minute wait for a cheese board, but as my friend and I were discussing whether or not we would stay or go (because we were hungry!!), someone from the kitchen came out and said it would probably be more like 20 minutes. The stars had aligned and I'm happy we stayed. Tried the farmstead cheese board and loved it. My favorites were the bit o' blue cow's milk cheese and the ewetopia sheep's milk cheese. The portions of cheese were very large and it came with plenty of accompaniments. Definitely enough for four people to share. I also ordered the sandwich of the day, which was grilled cheese with raclette, ham, and tomato. It was so comforting and I would love to have it again, should it be offered in the future. We took a recommendation from the staff and ordered a bottle of Summer Water rosé. Not something I'd ordinarily order but I really enjoyed it.

Keri N.

Yelp
I visited the Cheese cottage recently for the first time. First of all, this a neat little spot. The owners renovated an old gas station and turned it into a nice, quiet gathering spot. We sat in the covered outdoor section which is perfect for spring weather. There are pull down shades to help block any excessive wind. I really enjoyed this. Cheese cottage offers a limited lunch menu. They offer hand crafted sandwiches and cheese boards. On this visit I only tried a few different cheeses, but I can't wait to get back and try one of their signature sandwiches for lunch. In addition to the wide variety of cheeses, they also have wine and will help you pair it with the perfect cheese board. My favorite cheese is the triple cream brie. I ended up walking out with it and cheese curds to go! (Did I mention they have a store too so you can bring your favorite items home?!) The staff is very friendly. The space is small and so is the parking, but don't let it deter you from making a pit stop you won't regret!

Noelle P.

Yelp
One of the tastiest sandwiches ever! I have always wanted to try Pimento cheese and I'm so glad I tried it here! The service was friendly and quick. We ate on the patio and it was such a nice end to a long day. I went here on vacation, we just happened to find it on Yelp. If I were in that area again I would definitely bring my girls here for a delicious afternoon! Well done!

Sharyn F.

Yelp
We love the outdoor dining experience on a Saturday afternoon, but if you want the SOUP you have to be early!! They sell out all the time (sigh)!! Be adventurous and try the specials... they never disappoint!!

Mike H.

Yelp
Third time here. Food quality and freshness is top notch. This place is awesome. Service is awesome as well. Favorite lunch spot.

Charli P.

Yelp
Hubby and I went to this quaint little cheese shop for lunch. First of all, the place is charming. There is a covered outdoor patio with plenty of seating plus a couple of tables inside if you prefer. Owner Kristi was behind the counter and eager to help us select something for lunch. We ended up eating the Ploughman's board which includes two cheeses, a summer meat, french baguette slices, fruit, nuts and a delicious muscadine jam. We also shared the Basil Mozzarella sandwich. I am a water drinker and I absolutely adore the fact that in the "Sips" cooler are big bottles of water for your table. My husband had a bottled root beer. We decided to eat inside because of some construction work that was happening outdoors nearby. I am so happy that we did, because we really got to visit with Kristi and her husband! They are a delightful couple and excited about Mobile! The cheeses were incredible. We had one from Sweet Grass Creamery that was divine! Kristi offers a complimentary sampling of six cheeses that I suggest you try. The shop offers a big assortment of jams, honey, crackers and 90 different cheeses! If you are looking for a unique gift, they have gift baskets and boards. This is the perfect place to meet friends for wine and some delicious cheese! The lunch menu includes salads, sandwiches and of course, cheese!

Mary Louise M.

Yelp
I had the special yesterday....turkey with blueberry compote on a toasted Croissant. TO DIE FOR!!!! Also the soup special. Chz....potatoes...n kale.. Fabulous.

April A.

Yelp
We were next door watching the Army Navy game and decided to get a bite here at halftime. They appeared to have plenty of staff and there was only one table occupied when we got there. It too at least an hour to get our order. They weren't making gumbo from scratch, our orders were simply salads and sandwiches. A couple came in after us, they ate, paid there bill, and left before we ever got our food. We were the only table left. After we got our food, which was okay, our waitress totally abandoned us. We practically had to beg to pay them. That took another half hour. The owner or possibly manager finally checked us out. Maybe it was an off day. With so many great selections in our home town, I doubt we will ever return.

Lee N.

Yelp
Ordered a cheeseboards for our vacation on the beach. The cheeses they selected, the salami, the dates and the pecans were perfect. We snacked on them for several days. The blue cheese wedge and the Brie were exceptional. If we're in the area, we will try the Cheese Cottage again. Quaint little building.
