Haven't been here in years. A lot has changed, but I love all the new stuff. Friendly, very helpful people there. Found what I wanted, plus so many fun treats to take home.

Wow. This shop has so much more than cheese. The cheese is varied and delicious. The bulk dried goods from granolas, grains, nuts, and seeds in so many varieties, sizes, and flavors. I bought unsalted VA peanuts. So hard to find anywhere. I bought some fresh and delicious and salted just right crispy beets and zucchini slices. And the sesame sticks are so good. Friendly service, beautiful clean and bright facility. It was 100% worth adding 20 minutes to go off course on my way from Lexington VA to DC.

Google
Fun stop! Bustling store that is full of anything you could imagine to eat. Lots of packaged bulk foods. Interesting regional specialties. Order your sandwiches when you arrive and shop while they're being made. Great resource for any type of flour you could need. Loved all the novelty candies and snacks. Hard not to stop if you're in the area!

Google
It's a fun place to stop and look around. Found lots of home made products and delicious options. Homestyle cheeses, canned products and fresh foods. We will be coming back every time we come to Virginia.

Google
This is an odd one to review. There are two parts to the Cheese Shop. The front is more or less like a small grocery store and at the back is the sandwich shop. The store itself seems to be a bit of a local icon. It has a large variety of grocery items and of course a lot of cheeses. It is a clean store with lots of options and very neat and organized. At the back of the store is the small sandwich shop. The sandwiches are simple sandwiches using the ingredients available in the deli. Nothing fancy. Just something simple and good when you want a sandwich.

Awesome place. Great shopping choices. Wonderful sandwiches, the meat and deli are very convenient. They have bulk items and many choices that not available elsewhere. Great shopping experience.

Google
Updating Oct 2024: Still no complaints! They have such a great selection of flours, beans, candies and chocolate, pastas, jams. My favorite place for popcorn kernels. And as always, the best cheese! The store is easy to walk around and the parking lot is a good size but close to the store. (Added more recent photos.) Addendum, Sept 2019: They've remodeled the place. Larger parking lot. New entrance, now over on the corner of the building where the glass wall is. More selections available. A deli with tables and chairs now available. Still have their cheese counter and the most delicious cheeses. Still have all the amazing products as before, just more space and more stock available. Prices are still the best you can find. Staff is still the most polite you can find. There is an attached doughnut shop, using the old entrance. I'll give a review once I've tried them. 2016 review: Great prices. Excellent variety of flours, mixes, beans, crackers, chips, jams, and cheeses. Loved the smoked gouda. Loved the quick oatmeal. Small building and easy to walk around. Clean restrooms. Polite staff.

Google
The cheese shop is awesome. It's a mix between a deli, grocery, and country store. You can get hot and cold sandwiches, meats and cheeses sliced to order, or browse the shelves for an absolutely amazing assortment of jams, snack mixes, candy, baked goods, cheeses, soup starters, rice, and my my what a place. You can also find handcrafted kitchen ware. Things not to miss would definitely be the blueberry cheddar, the stuffed pepper soup mix, or a coconut fried pie! Worth a visit, check them out. Cheers!

Yelp
The whole store is fantastic. The food section has really high quality ingredients, fresh spices, and abundant baking supplies. Loads of pickled vegetables, enormous selection of jams and jellies, dried fruits and nuts, pasta in all of its yummy varieties, and all without the added preservatives. Loads of farm to market cheese, German style sausages, local butter, and dairy fresh milk every Thursday. The candy isle is of the old fashioned variety and guaranteed to wreck any diet. Quality chocolate, amazing fudge, old school sweets and licorice, proper salty snacks, the works. The sandwich shop is also fantastic. They are quick and affordable, with first quality ingredients. They are fast, especially given that they are customized, and the staff is fantastic. The whole place is spotless and keeps with the low key quality one would expect from Mennonites. Highly recommend.

Yelp
This place is amazing. We stop in just for something to do. Browsing the selection and finding cool items from childhood or just new tastes give it a fun aspect. The sandwiches are huge, fresh, and delicious and the deli is worth visiting. Their pimento cheese spread is the best. They also have interesting old time toys and the candy selection is maddening because we can never decide so we get too much. Staff is so very friendly.

Sandy M.

Yelp
We always stop here when traveling thru. Delicious sandwiches from the deli and baking items that you just don't find anywhere else. Also have delicious cinnamon rolls & homemade bread. Staff is very courteous.

Yelp
What a fabulous find! My mother in law lives close to the store in Waynesboro, VA. We were on the search for Troyers Trail Bologna from Ohio and I knew this would be the spot! Luck have it, there was one ring! If you are looking for "Ohio Amish Country" products this is a great spot to try. They even had our favorite cheese. The staff was wonderful and welcomed me with a huge smile. I will definitely be back when I'm in the area.

Mark W.

Yelp
Come here for lunch, cheese and spices. Consistently great spice and snack choices. Similar to Amish bulk food but catered to the (English). Fresh baked goods and deli items. Usually have a list when I drop in they carry what I want and always in stock.

Yelp
This a Mennonite grocery store! Hit and miss for homemade items ! The staff is very friendly! They have a sandwich shop , but we haven't tried it yet ! It's normally busy with people! They do have somethings you can't find anywhere else! Typically speciality grocery store ambience! They have a full deli ! They were packing the fresh potato salad as we were waiting! Yum ! Tons of candy ! Great gluten free section! examen des cols bleus:

Yelp
Great food and service, great workers could talk to the guy in the photo for hours, the chicken tenders are very good.

Yelp
All food was packaged. Nothing fresh! All was wrapped or packaged . Went in looking for fresh Bread. Nothing in this store is made fresh, all is packaged or processed.
google avatar

Andrea C.

Yelp
I absolutely love shopping here. They have many deli cheeses and meats to choose from and an abundance of homemade soups, sauces, salads, dips, pickles....and BREAD! Do not miss the homemade rolls and bread! Or the homemade Pimento Cheese Spread! The Pimento Cheese is the best anywhere and worth the trip for that reason alone! Looking for old fashioned candies, they have those too! When you walk in you will be greeted with the aroma of baked breads and fried pies which are located right up front. Service is always with kind words and a smile.

Yelp
Amazing local place for cheese, dairy, spices, etc. consistently voted best grocery store and sandwich place. Always friendly staff. Nice sized aisles to get down. Clean. Full of things you didn't know you needed. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Andrea H.

Yelp
They have an excellent variety of bulk products and cheeses. They even had sorghum syrup, which can be hard to find. They also have a sandwich shop, but that wasn't open.
google avatar

Kristy W.

Yelp
Great variety of spices, breads, cooking additives, meats, cheeses!! The also carry Amish made goods, ointments, and natural products!! They are always friendly and gracious!!!! I love that this place is a part of my local community!! The pricing is a little higher than a grocery store but the quality of everything is .

Yelp
Such a neat little store that me and a friend just happened upon. There's a sandwich shop in the back that I have yet to try...but I am looking forward to the day that I do. They have pretty much everything you could ever want. Joe's Tea, lots of candy and snacks, baking supplies, soup starters, fancy ice cream sandwiches, etc.

Yelp
Such a great little local place filled with local goods. Staff is always so pleasant!

Yelp
Great spot for local products. We picked up a few cheeses and meats and were pleased with the selection. We also got sandwiches for lunch and they were delicious.

Yelp
This won't be a long review because, well it's a cheese shop, but I couldn't go without writing one!! If you love cheese, like me! This is the place for you! Havarti, Gouda, Brie, pimento, aged cheddar, and the list goes on and on. It's a cheese lovers paradise! We grabbed bottles of wine from a nearby vineyard, and I stumbled across this place on accident after, when I saw it on the map. So glad we decided to stop in. We grabbed four blocks, a cheese slicer, and we were happy campers heading back to our hotel for the night! Even have plenty to take home with us. 10 out of 10 recommend!

Yelp
Bulk food to made to order sandwiches. The best pimento cheese you can find. They support local community.

Yelp
Fun place. Great cheese selection. Grilled cheese sandwich is a must . Go to nursery then to cheese shop. Great visit to Stuart's Draft

Yelp
I've been going to this place for many years. Great prices on spices and cooking ingredients. Large candy selection for the kids. Nice sandwich shop inside for lunch.

Yelp
If your plans include going to the cheese shop on Saturday consider perhaps not. I ran in there for one thing and it was JAMMED. The aisles are narrow anyway and people were brushing against each other and doing the dart in front of each other to grab something. I do commend cheese shop for putting a large sign on the door begging for people to wear a mask, however the sign read so they wouldn't be "boycotted," which sounded like they are backing away from the scientific reason to wear a mask. One infected cough in that place when it's that busy would have been devastating. For shame. I will not return. That lack of caring indicates to me they may be equally careless about the food they sell.

Yelp
I love this store!! They have bulk spices, mixes, dried fruits, beans, etc. and lots of jarred/preserved items. They even have an organic section. There is also a cheese and coldcut section. But I mostly just get bulk stuff from here. They also have some local crafts. And random books, like Mennonite cooking and spiritual books. Don't be fooled, The Cheese Shop sells much more than cheese! I went on a Sunday and there was a woman outside selling her donuts. I got a maple donut, and it was heavenly! I wish I could make donuts like that! So yummy. Try to go on the weekend so you can try one (or two!) They have some local VA stuff, my most favorite being the Deep Fried Virginia Peanuts prepared by the Greenville United Methodist Church. They are extra crunchy and salty. They sell them by the checkout counter. I stocked up on them, they're so good. And they make a nice gift to bring someone who isn't from Virginia. They come in a cute little jar that says "God is good."

Yelp
Great selection, good foods good service. The prices are great and their sandwich shop is really affordable

Yelp
A good selection of natural products. Cheese was not their primary product presented.

Yelp
Definitely worth the stop. It's got lots of great things to try. Great selections of pastas, flours, snacks, spices, etc., and lots of old time favorites that are hard to find these days. Friendly staff. Easy parking. It is a little off the beaten path but not that hard to find. If you can't drive there You can order on line.

Yelp
The ladies in my family & I take 2 trips a year from Richmond just to come here & miller'a bake shop right down the road. We stock up on spices, chipped beef, baking mixes, snack mixes and cheeses. They have very reasonable prices and you never really know what you will find here. Great for out of the ordinary stocking stuffers, my husband is a chef who doesn't like chocolate so he always gets a bunch if spices in his stocking!!
google avatar

Betty A.

Yelp
A local favorite, but people come from miles around to shop here... Sometimes by the bus load and especially around the holidays! They have a wide variety of foods (not just cheese), dry goods, anything you could possibly need for baking, jams, pickles, fresh baked goods! You will still need to go to a grocery store (for paper products and cleaning supplies and fresh veggies) but if you haven't been here yet, you should stop in! It's worth the trip to Stuarts Draft :-)

Elsway ..

Yelp
I went in for the cheese but came out with two bags of goodies. My husband and I were in awe when we went in to the shop. Everything was well stocked up on the shelves. I just want to buy them all. I was a little skeptical with the freshness because they were individually repacked. But to my surprise, everything is fresh and quality was superb. Their nuts and prunes put Trader Joe's products to shame. Since I am visiting from California I will continue to buy their products online. Keep up the good work.

Yelp
Dad lives in Staunton so every time we come to visit we make a trip to the cheese shop. The staff are very personable and friendly. They have a variety of local products, homemade items and every kind of cheese imaginable. Their prices are reasonable and make sure you take a stop in the room where they keep the knives. They sell Rada knives and they are some of the best knives I've ever used. I buy a new knife or knife set every time I come. Make it a point to stop in or check them out online as they can ship your items to you. Great place and great people.
google avatar

Yelp
I absolutely love this place! I leave with boxes of jelly everytime...I'm one of *those* people who need at least 3 jellies in the fridge at all times. The Black Raspberry keeps me coming back. It's also the only place I buy my spices and baking supplies. Great bargains as they buy in bulk and repackage in smaller units. Awesome drive in the Fall.

Yelp
Affordable, great friendly workers and favorite stop for us every time we visit Stuarts Draft!

Steve Tess T.

Yelp
Cheese, spices, deli meats, bulk dry goods like flour, oats, nuts, candies, jams, jellies, relishes, honey, and so much more. I have been stopping by when in the area and making special trips in between for goods from the Cheese Shop. The german bologna is amazing for bologna burgers (ask them to slice on 7) and I love farmers cheese which I can never find anywhere else. We get cheese in blocks and also sliced. We keep a Rada pairing knife in the glovebox (or you can buy one there) and start eating cheese with crackers or fresh homemade rolls as soon as we leave. We just cant wait. Ther are so many varieties of cheese available. If you are on I64 btwn Staunton and Waynesboro this is a quick detour... and you'll always walk away happy. :)

V B.

Yelp
We LOVE coming here! Friendly employees, great deals, and homemade items. We always make a stop when near the area. Love the homemade butter, jams, meats and cheeses, baking goods, candies, and knives. Totally worth the drive and recommend to all!
google avatar

Yelp
Great place to get bulk ingredients, gluten free stuff, oddities, melt-in-your-mouth fudge, meats, and of course CHEESE!!! And these are only the highlights. Worth the stop every time. Always find something new and tasty!
google avatar

Bryon N.

Yelp
This place is awesome. We will not purchase our lunch meat from any other establishment. I used to walk in exactly 15 minutes before close, and they would be cleaning their slicers, and I would order. This was really frustrating for the ladies working in the deli department. After a few times of disappointing these very patient ladies, I converted to calling in my orders. I now call in my orders...they know me by name. Great place! Cannot say enough great things about them!
google avatar

Connie D H.

Yelp
Quality of their products is excellent. Needless to say that their cheese is outstanding and we regularly buy bulk nuts of various varieties to mix up for snacks. The frequently have local baked goods that are really yummy too.
google avatar

Chris W.

Yelp
I have been shopping at the cheese shop since 1997. they are a bulk food store that always have great food at good prices. I love to cook and bake and when ever I am in the area i always try to stop by.

Yelp
Worst cheese ever! We found a local cheese shop in Virginia... Yay! Unfortunately, the three local cheeses we bought were as bad as it can be. None had an expiry date, so we mistakenly bought a rotten cheese. Yuck! As for the smoked cheese, it tasted as if someone had dropped a whole bottle of liquid smoke in a small bucket of milk before making it. The third one was just tasteless and crumbly. Over the top, it was pretty expensive. I'll make sure to never stop again!
