Chicken or the Egg has been a family favorite of ours since the 1980’s. We love the “Breakfast all-day” menu, but the lunch/dinner menu is just as good, and there a whole lot of options to choose from. The food is great. The staff is friendly and attentive. This a really popular place for comfort food and for families (especially BIG families). Since they expanded in the past decade, there is less wait-time to get a great meal.

This is one of my favorite places ever. Living in Florida now, I definitely miss this. The fat chegg holds a special place in my heart. It’s also in a really cute area of Beach Haven. All of their food is delicious and every time I go back to Jersey I have to stop here. We always walk from chegg to bird and Betty’s. TikTok Reviewer: acaicaitlin

Stopped in for a post-run Brekky.was my first time and it was wonderful! Had the lumberjack omelet, eggs Benny, chicken, and Bee Sting Sauce of course! Everything was delicious.

Man I love this place. I came back here after almost a decade hiatus because I remember loving their wings, and they still hit the spot. I got the beesting (breaded) which were a perfect mild-med buffalo with a hint of sweetness to cut into the spice. The breaded option has a heavier coating than your classic wing, but adds a nice crunch if you don't mind some extra breading (which also holds more oil from the fryer). The boneless 'wings' are essentially chicken tenders, thinner in style. The atmosphere inside is an absolute vibe with all the decor, comic style tabletops and menus, etc. We also ordered the New England clam chowder simply because it was award winning -- excellent, although ngl I've had better in other spots on the island. Overall, really no complaints, and I will definitely come back here again next time I visit LBI (now living out of state).

We went to the chegg many years ago, a few times, and we weren't really impressed. However, just recently we went to the chegg out in marlton and we had such a great meal that we decided to give the one on the island another shot. So glad we did. We had the best swings that we probably ever had in our life and everything else was really enjoyable. Would definitely take the time to head out there again

Chegg breakfast is a beachside legend for a reason. I had the crabby omelet and it was pure coastal comfort—rich, fresh, and perfectly cooked. The vibe is laid-back and lively, with friendly service and big portions that hit the spot after a morning stroll. Expect a wait, but it moves fast and it’s totally worth it. A must-stop on LBI.

Had breakfast at The Chicken or the Egg, and it was fantastic! The portions were generous, and the menu had plenty of creative options that made it tough to choose just one thing. I went with an omelet that was perfectly cooked and packed with flavor. The atmosphere is upbeat and welcoming, capturing the laid-back vibe of the Jersey Shore. Service was quick, even with the morning crowd. Definitely worth a visit if you're looking for a great breakfast spot in Beach Haven!

Went for lunch in October . Probably 2 tables in entire place. Ordered and brought out wrong item . Ok moving on food was not good . 2 of us had breakfast and one lunch . My sandwich was In edible Nd my granddaughter could not eat her pancakes which were hard as rock. Could not process debit card thru their little card holder One and done . Never again but hey maybe I. Season better . I would go to McDonald's for breakfast before I came back here

The food was very good. I had the old style Philly sub and the New England Clam Chowder. Large portions. The service was equally as good. Joey was a great server. The ambiance was great! It had great nicknacks on the walls.

Not sure what happen but man was it a 180 from what the food was. 9 years ago I gave this place 5 stars. Today we ordered takeout and it was 1 star. I'm not sure what happen, maybe it's because it was take out, I don't care to attempt it again. The food was absolutely disgusting. The chicken cheese steak was bland and the gravy from the fries was all over the sandwich making it a completey soggy mess. Extremely disappointed.

We picked up a few different wings and they were just as delicious as always. I love going there in the off season because it's not packed and there's no wait, especially when getting it to go. We ordered a variety of wings, side sauces, corn nuggets - with a Thai chili sauce and onion rings - with a horse radish sauce. Their wings are so big I could only eat 3 of the 5. Can't wait to go back!

Drove 40 minutes to get there this morning anticipating something special. The website said that they opened at eight. I got there about 930 and the place was locked up tighter than a drum. I would've really liked to have eaten there but oh well. I couldn't find anything posted on the storefront as to what time they actually were open, so I won't be going back there unless I'm sure that they're gonna be open.

It's been over a decade since I last had CHEGG and they're still so good. I heard they changed owners but the decor inside is the same - funny chicken themed. Love all the varieties of sauces. They can get busy but have a loudspeaker to call you if you're waiting outside (more places need this). Once seated, the service was incredibly fast. Everything was reasonably priced. $15 for a buffalo chicken wrap (with any sauce) and $1 for sweet potato fries. The Santos sauce is delicious with real garlic. Yum!

Go here for beasting wings! Atmosphere is casual like a TGIF. Service is fast. One of the Best white Chowder on the island! So much to chose from for everyone. Haven't been since they changed hands so will have to check it out and update this summer. Tip- Join the wait list in advance.

The Chegg is a go to spot when visiting LBI. I really like that breakfast options can be ordered all day (diner style) without the restaurant having a diner feel. The crabby omelette is to die for and so filling. I highly recommend giving it a try when it is on the specials menu. It is pricey but I honestly think worth the price tag. The boneless wings are also very filling and can even be shared between two people if opting to order a side of fries. We usually share the garlic pub fries, which come with a side of ranch. My husband usually purchases a bottle of santos sauce to take home, which is a nice option they offer. Wait times can be long so prepare for that. The restaurant has recently expanded their interior, which definitely helps. Once inside, the decor is also very fun. There is a lot to look at while waiting for food. Overall this LBI staple is worth a visit at least once.

Food here is pretty good. The wings were delicious and I really did appreciate the omelette. The staff wasn't particularly friendly. We came in a large party and the first waiter that came seemed to have an attitude problem.

Great, fun place with plenty of seating. So happy to have been able to stop by and eat on our last day in LBI. Service was quick and friendly. The food was delicious!! Pierogi Omelette - creamy smooth mashed potatoes inside the omelette with red onions, bacon and cheddar cheese. A very unique item that was warm and comforting. Sausage Gravy over Biscuits - hands down one of the best I ever had. The biscuits are soft and fluffy, and the gravy is not too heavy. Hope to come back in the future!

Amazing eggs benedict and redneck benedict dishes! happy with the service received here even though we are on the office tourist season. great vibe in the restaurant. highly recommend trying the home fries here. will definitely be back for more since the menu is so large and expansive!

When I tell you that I practically grew up on Chegg, that's not an exaggeration. The amount of memories and good meals I've had at this restaurant over the years is innumerable. However, I visited here again recently and a sour taste was left in my mouth. The entire restaurant has undergone a semi-recent expansion and despite pouring tons of money into the physical restaurant location, the management here seems to have drastically reduced the customer experience. Not only have prices risen to ridiculous amounts ($11 for FIVE wings not including any fries.. who are we kidding), but the food quality has dipped as well. I ordered the bone-in breaded mild wings on a recent visit, and was shocked to find that some of the wings were only half-coated in the sauce. They've also changed their selection of fries so you can only get a massive plate of them (no sides!!) for $8... huh? They are still tasty though so I'll give them that. To add further salt in the wound they've also recently changed their credit card policy so that you have to pay an additional percentage if you're paying by card, which is just ridiculous for a restaurant their size. It's a shame that Chegg has really dipped in quality and overall customer experience so much over the years, and I hope they can wake up and see that it'll be losing them customers.

Great service & delicious food. Highly enjoyed our meal and they were great with accommodating my child's food allergies. We will go back the next time we are in LBI! I had an eggs Benedict I can't remember the name but it was amazing!

We hadn't been here since 2008 and we decided it was time to go again since it's such an institution and we loved the food the first time. So last night we decided to stop in for dinner BEFORE it got crowded. We were seated immediately (they will only seat full parties). The place can get pretty crowded and loud, but it's still fun. The wait staff is hot or miss, but I always try to give servers the benefit of the doubt as customers can be jerks... Since they don't serve alcohol here (and since we've been dehydrated all week) we just got waters all around. We started with an order of Disco Fries (OMG they were really REALLY good) and wings (5 with Santos Sauce and 5 with Killer Bee Sting Sauce). The wings we ordered naked (you know, because breading would damage our girlish figures) and they were fantastic! Wifey ordered the Buffalo Chicken Salad and loved it...lettuce was crisp and crunchy and the chicken was delicious The boy and I both got the Buffalo Chickwich (he got the Santos Sauce and I got the Chipotle BBQ) - a really good fried chicken sandwich with pickles and a side of fries The girl had the Chicken Cluckwich and liked it a lot and the girl's boy got the 5-piece Buffalo Fingers with honey BBQ sauce and he HAMMERED them. There are lots of places on LBI...and you will ALWAYS pay LBI prices, but I definitely recommend The Chicken Or The Egg.

3 star rating just because as a whole its nothing really special in terms of food items - it's mostly what you'll get at a diner serving breakfast. What stood out were the wings and they were a decent size! I honestly expected much smaller ones but they were decent. The price I guess reflects that for almost $2 per piece. It's not a bad place to go for food, don't get me wrong but I definitely wouldn't want to wait an hour. The prices are fairly typical of a diner so that was nice.

The Chicken or the Egg has always been a staple when coming to Long Beach Island. We normally either order out or dine in, but the last few times we chose the latter. The wings are definitely a must try but the clam chowder is also very good! Go get your comfort food!

I know this is a staple for LBI so I really wanted to give it a try just so I could be a part of the hype. Came on a Friday evening and were seated immediately with no issue. But I could see how this place could get packed. This is exactly what I was expecting. Diner vibes with an enormous menu. Honestly everything sounded delicious but we opted for wings since I haaaad to have them. They were crispy and flavorful. And the wings were HUGE. They are not skimping here which I can appreciate. I would definitely come back to try some other options.

Clean and bright. Got seated fast as it was early. Service was fast. Smells like fried chicken walking in. Ordered buffalo fries with garlic sauce tossed in as a side. It's an acquired taste. This is a breakfast and fried chicken themed diner style food. Definitely geared for high school, college and families . Decently priced as well.

My three kids and I went to this location today for lunch. We only had to wait about ten minutes for a table. I hadn't been there in about 8 years and last time waited a good 40 minutes. So I was pleasantly surprised the wait was short, but the place was indeed packed. They were fully staffed. Our server was pleasant and prompt. Not overly friendly but nothing to complain about. The menu was vast. I had the avocado toast. It was good. My daughter had the child chocolate chip pancakes and asked to add whipped cream which they did. My son had a burger and it was good. My other son had the Texas French toast. We ordered cheesy bread yummmm and chicken cheese quesadilla. The bill was a bit intense. Not used to that for a diner style food. They did give me a small military discount though. So that's great !! The decor was very fun.

Lots of seating inside, fast service great staff got my food real quick, got my check real quick went back to three times on vacation. I'd go back again.

Something for everyone. A huge cavernous place, clean, friendly and fast service. Huge portions of delicious breakfast and lunch food. The jalapeño and spinach three egg omelet was nice and spicy with toast and hash brown potatoes The jalapeño cheese bagel sandwich was stuffed with scrambled eggs and three slices of bacon. Hash brown potatoes nuggets nice and crispy The coffee could have been hotter but the second cup was much hotter. Great prices - good server hustle

The place was hopping mid morning on a Sunday. Service was great. Got the sunrise eggwich on wheat toast. The egg wa perfectly cooked. The lettuce was fresh. The tomato was weak but I am a tomato snob. Also, I should have asked for the bacon crispy. And double lettuce. Next time...

This is a must visit for wing lovers anytime one is in Beach Haven or on LBI! Good luck getting in in a timely fashion in the peak summer months, but off season is quite different! Nice and quiet with the same yummy wings! Service is generally always pretty super! They're used to working fast! And the menu is chock full of chicken options - plus, you can choose from a zillion sauce flavors based on your hotness or non-hotness preference. The wings are truly 5 stars but I think a fair rating for all food here is 4, which is still mighty good!

What a staple in LBI. My boyfriend and I were looking for a quick place to stop and grab dinner. The Chegg to the rescue. We put our names down and the wait was about half an hour. It went quick and honestly we spent most of our time looking through the huge menu. I'm so glad we decided on the chicken tenders! They were so good. I mean trust me when I say everything is very much like diner food, but the chicken tenders and their sauces. They do them well. Chicken is their thing and they are very good at it. The French onion soup was ok, the chowder was alright as well but the chicken nachos and the tenders stole the show. I also just love the decor on the walls. All the servers were so friendly too. I'm craving a chicken tender as I write this. Can't wait to try their breakfast!

While it has long hours, the food is mostly fried, pretty basic, and not that good. Service was bad, too. Didn't get half of what we ordered. You would be better off going to one of the diners. Also, it's pretty strange that all the servers are men - what's up with that?

Absolutely worth the hype! (Hate to say it) We loved our server Gianna, a total gem! We waited about 10min on a Saturday morning around 10:30am for a table for 2- we got pretty lucky- it was packed! We had to try the famous wings and they were so good! We ordered them with their famous beesting sauce - perfect spicy/sweet ratio. We then ordered the famous Cinnamon Roll French Toast (wow this was phenomenal) and Midwestern Omelet - also very good! It came with potatoes and choice of toast! They got us in and out pretty quickly but we didn't feel rushed at all- seriously so good!!! Can't wait to go back next time we are on the island!

I can see why Chegg is a staple in LBI...it's pretty darn good! There are countless wing sauce options, along with many different types of wings to pick (bone-in, boneless, vegan, and shrimp). You can also order the bone-in wings breaded or naked, which I think is a nice option to have, especially if you are dieting. Irrespective of that, I recommend ordering the breaded bone-in wings. Outside of wings, you have an even wider menu of sandwiches, starters, fries, salads, platters, and breakfast, which you can get at ANY time. I have tried teriyaki, honey barbecue, medium, mild, zapper, killer bee-sting, old bay dry rub, bee-sting, and hickory barbecue. I liked all of these flavors, especially the mild and honey barbecue. The wings are definitely best when dining in-person because they are crispy. In most cases when I order take-out, the wings lose their crispiness due to the steam. The wings can also get cold, depending on how long your order has been sitting around. I have also tried breakfast on two occasions. The scrambled eggs are nothing special, resembling what I get at a diner. The omelettes have been a hit or a miss for the most part. I recall having limp home fries with my scrambled eggs order. More recently, I ordered chocolate chip pancakes which was a solid breakfast choice. The pancakes had a soft, airy texture and there was a perfect amount of chocolate chips added. I'd probably order those if I ever come for breakfast. Unfortunately, there was a pancake option called "stoner cakes," consisting of banana, chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, and oats, that is no longer part of the menu. These were excellent when I had them and would probably sell incredibly well as a hangover meal (lol). Why this pancake option was omitted from the menu is unclear; but it disappointed me that it is no loner there to order. The ambiance inside the restaurant is amusing and gives it a unique identity relative to other restaurants. There are a bunch of souvenirs, pictures, props, and so on. In addition, the servers are really cool and will happily help you out. They don't check in as often, but that is typically because it is jam-packed with diners, depending on when you eat. If you dine-in on weekends, be prepared for a crowd. You might have to wait. However, I find the wait to almost always be worth it. Granted, $2/wing is a steep price point, but the wings are good and they'll fill you up. 4 stars seems about right. Chegg is a largely consistent, reliable and fun staple with great food, but it likely won't be the best wings you'll ever have. Bring back the stoner cakes!!

Seated pretty promptly . Looks tidy. Speedy service. Tea & coffee. Blueberry Pancakes, a Rueben & my eggs w/a Thomas English muffin. We all liked our breakfast. Nice 90's music . Eagle eye cherry song, for example.

Went here like 10 years ago and I had good memories. This last time was awful. My Mom and I got chicken tenders and both of us thought they were pretty terrible. We also sprung for their Pub Fries as an upgrade and the fries were mushy and just awful. The chicken tasted like it came from a frozen Perdue bag. The coating was not good and the regular hot sauce was not good either. Very disappointed. Time to retire this place as an option.

Brought a party of 9 here for brunch- and dreaded a long wait. They actually opened up a new section of the restaurant for us and a couple of other larger parties- good for them!!! Our waiter jumped right in, brought drinks then all the food in like 10 minutes- and all the food dishes were done fresh to our order - a good performance all the way around!

My friends are always raving about this place so I was excited to try it. One just opened by me in Marlton but I still haven't been yet. I started with the NE clam chowder and it was delicious, creamy with clam chunks and good flavor. I got the beesting wings with killer beesting on the side because I wasn't sure how spicy it was. Definitely could have handled the killer beesting it was the perfect amount of spicy with a honey background. Will definitely have to check out the closer to me Marlton location.

This is a staple on LBI, we are from Manahawkin but live out of state now. We always stop back when we can. This is a favorite fun place. The Fat Chegg is a must for me, the service is perfect!!

Service rushed despite them being very well staffed and it was not busy. ordered banana walnut pancakes, pancakes only had the walnuts and no bananas??? don't get the hype that this place gets/how they say the locals love it

The meat was just a tad dry. **Other notes** This place gets super packed, so call ahead or come during off hours. We showed up around 4pm and there was plenty of seating inside.

My family has eaten here for 25 years and enjoyed many happy meals, but the past few seasons quality and service has strongly declined. Tables were dirty, servers and staff were brusque. Chicken was standard, frozen food service company fare and the sauces were very artificial tasting. One of our party felt very sick after eating from the food. I hate to leave this bad review, we loved this resturaunt for decades prior to these experiences. It used to be everything was home made, fresh and the staff was super friendly. Hope they can turn it around someday.

Food is Good - lot's of variety and could be fun to take the kids BUT the prices are a bit high for things like wings ($2.00 wing! and there are not GREAT). I personally think they are a niche dining experience, if your local and what a place to take kids for a big variety - ok, BUT Breakfast is Better at Perkins or Denny's, wings are better at Doyle's, Lighthouse, Pete & Elda's, ect. Service is like a bunch of Hippies who will get to you when they can - Service isn't that good; and the place is Loud!!!

This is a great place however I do not like to go after 10 o'clock at night which I have often gone after the bars perfect place to go, but they allow infants and toddlers in all hours of the night and I don't agree with that. I saw three families with an infant may be a five year-old a three-year-old six year-old and it was 1 AM, and 1 AM 98% of the people are drunk and it's not a place for kids

Still the best wings anywhere - super big and meaty (where do they get them???) and a variety of excellent sauces that cater to all tastes including us idiots who enjoy sweating and crying when we eat wings. My only wish is that the couple of hottest sauces (obscene and ludicrous) would achieve their heat through the use of serious peppers like Ghost or Reaper, instead of just using extract which is pain without flavor. Service is fast and accurate. As far as ambiance goes the LBI location is the real deal - the newer Marlton location is nice, and I'll go there, but compared to the original it reminds me of Wayne's World when Rob Lowe built the fancy studio and poor Wayne and Garth almost hurled.

A LBI staple this place does not disappoint. Breakfast, lunch or dinner you can always get a good meal. Clam Chowder is amazing btw. Staff is always friendly and helpful. Truly an amazing establishment.

A classic lbi staple a must try if on lbi or in the surrounding areas never a bad meal

I am never eating here again. After I ate that disgusting burger, I had really bad issues on the toilet. Also the wait time was obnoxious for terrible food. I am never coming here again.

We enjoyed this classic LBI breakfast spot. The menu has lots of choices, including some smaller portions, which is much appreciated. A half Belgian waffle with strawberries was excellent and their breakfast sandwiches are delicious. Their "home fries" are deep-fried, not everybody's favorite. Good prices, and good service. Slightly wonder why they seated everyone for breakfast in the older, darker room, not the bright and beautiful addition.

IYKYK.... Chegg is the best breakfast place on LBI. We had a Waffle and a Build Your Own Omelet - and we both had a side of bacon. So. Good. The service is always fantastic and the staff is always so friendly!

I used to love this place. They used to have the best wings and reasonably priced. My Long Beach Island surf and turf used the be Chicken or the Egg wings and steamed clams but now, they suck! Some friends from out of town came to LBI land I highly recommend this place. They embarrassed me!!! $36 for 16 TINY wings!!! Again, I USED to LOVE this place but new management has destroyed it! Unless new management contacts me and promises they will go back to original wings, I'm not going back.

While visiting friends they mentioned this was a good place for wings so we figured why not! We came in & were seated right away, drinks to start Ginger Ale, Arnold Palmer & Sprite all good. On the wings we tried Garlic Parm very good , the Bee-sting not bad good combo w the spicy & sweet & the Jamaican jerk these were alright for me wasn't feeling the sauce everyone else seemed to like them. Main meal I had the Chicken Caesar wrap with sweet potato fries, very good wrap good taste the sweet potato fries were great, nicely crispy very good w the honey mustard sauce. Other dishes the Gobbler wrap & Fat chegg were good & the Chegg burger this was pretty big a lot in one bite but it was good. Service was good our waitress was nice & attentive , fun & interesting decor not bad price wise over all if u are not into eggs or chicken this may not be the best place for u as basically it's a good part of the menu. Over all we enjoyed our food it was worth giving them a try.

Food tasted great, the waitress was prompt and didn't keep us waiting and food came out quickly. The inside is decorated so cute with different trinkets and signs on the wall. Would definitely recommend it!

Average at best. I had the sausage gravy over biscuits. The biscuits did not even taste homemade. My husband had the chicken and waffles and said it was just OK. Skip this place and go to Jersey girl market or the Crêperie.

This place knows how it's done. Food is fresh, prepared to order. Service is fast and on point. We will be back.
