"Canadian chain the Chickery, which last year called in Top Chef alum and fellow Canuck Spike Mendelsohn to refresh its menu, has closed its location in Dupont Circle (1300 Connecticut Avenue NW) in order to try its luck further west. "We are looking to relocate the Dupont location to suburban Virginia and we’re currently scouting sites in Fairfax County," Chickery CEO Kert Gennings tells Eater. The high cost to call Connecticut Avenue home likely didn’t help. "Stores there have to do massive volumes to pay their rent," says Mendelsohn, who remains involved with the company. Great first experience at Chickery. The gal at the counter was patient and helpful as we tried to figure out what we wanted. I ordered the Parmesan chicken feathers, which were really flavorful, especially the seasoned breading. The shoestring fries were cooked just right and the BBQ dipping sauce was a winner. Portions were large and prices were reasonable: 2 of us ate for $20. I'm actually looking forward to leftovers for lunch tomorrow.

Well they just opened on 12/30/15 and already they were out of several items. I was suggested to get the sampler. Unfortunately after waiting for 20 minutes for my meal, it arrived barely warm. The meal included a side, roasted 1/4 chicken, a chicken "feather" and chicken tender as well as a salad and one sauce. While it seemed like a good deal, the roasted chicken quarter had minimal flavor. I was recommended the Hot Hot sauce which was a little spicy but tasted like pure vinegar. The Fries were good. Both the feather and tender tasted identical and were both slightly warm when I got them and were absolutely tiny. The salad they were out of the one I ordered and refused to substitute it for anything so they gave me the other one on the menu that I didn't want. The tray was unique in that it was metal with the fries and sauce sitting above your main entree. Only with the salad in front and the chicken tucked underneath the fries and sauce I couldn't reach in without getting salad dressing on my sleeve. They didn't have plates or anything else to put your 1/4 chicken on to pull it apart. There were at least two other people that had ordered different items that they were out of one I know was the coleslaw. The service was okay, but the order taker seemed kind of annoyed that I didn't know what I wanted and was asking for suggestions. I almost passed by, and wish I had as the $14 was not worth the meal, because the door was plywood. I saw people eating inside and was the only reason I stopped in. I can't give this place with bland chicken, sub par delivery and appearance, and okay service anything above a one star. For a new restaurant that that has been open less than a month, one would think that they might have product in stock, and be on the top of their game to attract customers and create returning customers. Not worth the money, or time.

We ordered ahead online using their app. The app is actually pretty functional and easy to use. The food took about 15 minutes. We ordered the 20 pc feast with fries and creamy coleslaw. We decided to take the food home to eat (about a 10 minute drive). The chicken and their selection of sauces was great; however, the fries were stale (maybe from the 10 minute drive) and the coleslaw was too creamy. Other than that, we'll likely return because they have good chicken and a good selection (chicken strips, rotisserie, sandwiches, pulled chicken).

I ordered through UberEATS and had some issues with the delivery service, which was of no fault of The Chickery. Our order consisted of two orders of the Ultimate Buttermilk Chicken Fingers, one regular and one "wild". I thought "wild" would be something wild...like spicy or some wild, far our seasoning. Turns out "wild" is a dash of paprika. Wild! In general, the chicken tenders were bland as could be. I liked the texture, the appearance of the breading, and the portion size. Looking at my meal, I thought it was going to be great, but it was so disappointing biting into a tasteless tender. I also had no idea that "The Chickory" sauce was an equally tasteless brown gravy. However, the mashed potatoes were pretty darn good, but I'm not going to order from a place again just because they have good mashed potatoes. Overall, I was not impressed.

Today the Chickery was hand out chicken finger samples. Yum! It entice me to go in for lunch. I ordered the Chino salad with rotisserie chicken and the sweet potato tater tots. The staff was friendly and the wait wasn't long before I received my food. The salad had very little chicken in it and it was missing the crispy noodles. I was very disappointed with the salad, but enjoyed the tater tots.

I have given the Chickery so many chances but I am completly done with them now. I ordered the pulled chicken sandwich Wed (4/12) and took it home for dinner. It looked as though they scrapped the meat that was stuck to the side of the pan and put it on my sandwich. It was the worst sandwich I have ever had. I ordered the street corn as my side, it had so much seasoning on it, you could not tell the corn was yellow. I really wanted to like this place but it has dissapointed me too many times. Since I feel their food cost too much, I do expect to be able to eat it once I spend my hard earned money on it.

I ordered from this place on UberEATS. What I got in my box was NOTHING like the pictures on the restaurant website. The macaroni and cheese was bland and cheeseless with some rudimentary breadcrumbs sprinkled on top, and the spiked chicken feathers look like they were flattened within an inch of their life, nearly burned, soggy, and tasted nothing of Parmesan. I definitely will not be ordering from this place again.

I just brought my wife here for lunch and unfortunately, it was not a good dining experience. I ordered the jalapeno chicken sandwich which was extremely sloppy and too wet. My side was macaroni and cheese which was white and unflavorful. My wife ordered the half rotisserie fried chicken meal. First, they gave her the quarter meal, which we sent back, then they brought the corrected meal out in portions. The first portion was a breast, which had so much breading on it that you couldn't tell it was a piece of fried chicken. When we took it back to the counter one of the customers in line actually asked me "what is THAT?!?". We never had a chance to get the remainder of the meal, because we asked for a refund. The tables were dirty as well. I think they need to step up the quality of the staff, it appears to be a bunch of kids running the show. Sorry Chickery, we won't be back. An unhappy customer. :-(
