The Clerk & Well

Location is just fantastic! We walked absolutely everywhere around London. Our room was beautiful, clean and comfortable. Free crisps and cookies daily, too! Bathroom also beautiful, clean and spacious. Friendly and helpful staff and a pub downstairs are the icing on the cake. If you have issues with mobility, this is probably not the place to stay. We actually loved having stairs and appreciated the additional daily exercise. We also didn’t mind stepping up into the tub/shower. But do keep these in mind if you need stepless accommodations. We will, without question, book here again. Truly loved our time here!

I booked this place quite randomly as needed somewhere to stay at short notice after working very late. What a pleasant surprise this Inn was- the staff were extremely friendly and helpful, the food was good and the room was very well decorated and equipped. The lady from Berlin who showed me to my room could not have been a better advert for the place- cheerful and helpful. Great place and would thoroughly recommend.

So much fun staying above the Clerk and Well pub. Our room was well-appointed, with newly updated finishes. I was concerned about being able to hear noise from the pub below, but it was plenty quiet. I will definitely book with Pub and Rooms again!

Really nice Pub / Inn I had corner room which had a little traffic noise but that died down after 8pm and didn’t really notice it. Clean and tidy with a good size bathroom… Food was great I had one of their steaks on the bone sirloin - it was up there in my go back and have again. Bar good atmosphere choice of beer etc.. overall loved it thank you on my list when next in London

The hotel/pub has just reopened under new management. I was greeted by Jude who was fantastic, great rooms great location and a lovely central place to stay and also great pub with awesome food. I have to say a special thanks to Emma and the rest of the staff who were brilliant. Back again next year and I am looking forward to it. I would recommend highly.

YIKES! Avoid like the plague. Terrible service! When we entered, we received no greeting, but happily sat ourselves at a table. Menus were out and we looked forward to ordering -- it was still 40 minutes until the kitchen was due to close. My husband went up to order and was rudely told they wouldn't prepare our meal (burgers -- nothing fancy or time-intensive) because "the kitchen was too busy." There were maybe eight other people in the entire pub. Maybe hire more (and better) staff, guys? If the kitchen is closed early, let people know and take menus off tables? Train your bartenders not to be jerks? It isn't that hard.

Went for dinner on Easter Sunday. Happy to find it was open. Lovely atmosphere in the pub with very accommodating hosts. Enjoyed the drinks list, and menu with traditional roasts but also interesting sides and starters.

Lovely pub / restaurant / hotel in the City. Close to tube stops and sights. Staff and managment were very helpful with luggage and stroller as staying with a baby. Rooms very quite despite location anddelicious food served - perfect being able to pop downstairs for a meal rather than walk around London looking for somewhere.Thank you!

Fun little place. Mostly Asian cuisine. Pretty crowded for a Tuesday evening. Good draft beer selection and cool cocktail options (especially if you like gin)! Also a small inn. Room are upstairs without a lift. So if stairs are an issue then it's not for you. Otherwise the room I was in was well appointed with complimentary water, coffee, tea and a few snacks.

Really enjoyed the food in the pub and our stay in the room above. Good location, very prompt and helpful service, spotless room. Good air conditioning, smart tv, everything we needed. No lift and steep stairs though if you are disabled and/or have a lot of heavy luggage.

Great ambience, feels like the perfect cosy London pub. Also enjoyed their Sunday roast, the food is really high quality me and my friends agreed.

I can't comment about the food here, I actually stayed here in the rooms above the place. Strangely, I never went downstairs to get food, but given the reviews, I probably should have. Here's the lowdown for the rooms. When I got here, the check-in process happens in the bar, so go inside, and talk to the server, they will get you the right person to take you back outside, and to the side door. Inside, prepare yourself for a bunch of stairs... no elevators here, just stairs. After you go up about two stories, you will see the first set of doors, and the office. Inside your room, is generally what you expect in any hotel room, a comfy (small) bed, nightstands, a makeup area, hot water kettle, and a bathroom. They also included a fridge. Plenty of power outlets all around the room, and neat light switches that can be controlled from both sides of the bed, and the door. The bathroom is nicely kitted, but the bed is something that as an American, I clearly don't understand. I get what a King size bed in America is, but their King size, is pretty small.. like full size. Minus the bed size, the room was pretty darn exactly what we expected. So what you have is a pub below, and rooms above. Since the place closes at 10pm, noises from below dwindle down as well. it's a good place, just north of town, and very close to the tube stations, buses and transport. Is it worth it, yup. Going to the UK, this is a proper good place for it..

Ok food, but not great. Tumbs up for several Asian dishes. 14 choices of beer. The Korean beef was well done, although my friend specifically ordered medium-rare.

So I met up some friends here and I walked through the door starving. I picked up the menu and was shocked to see Thai food on the menu. Really?! Isn't this a pub? I was expecting Fish & Chips & other fried, unhealthy goodies. So weird but awesome at the same time. I tried a few bites of my friend's pad thai and although it wasn't authentic, it was still pretty good. And I really mean that... even though I'm sure anything I ate at that point would've been good. I love noodles so I went with the Wok-Fried Udon with Beef. Not exactly Thai... perhaps some Asian Fusion going on with the menu but it came out looking amazing & tasted just as great. The Clerk & Well was busy like no other and I can see why people love it so much. Great food & beer = good time. It's also a hop, skip and jump away from my school. Looks like I found another usual spot to hit up after class.

Came here a few days ago and thought it was a fairly standard, nice enough pub on first impression. Nothing to write home about but no problems. It wasn't too packed on a Thursday evening. There's a pool table. Probably 3 stars on that basis. However, the food is another story. Absolutely delicious pan-Asian dishes, far above what I would expect from a pub. Between my friends and I, we had salt chilli squid, prawn toast, crispy duck, char siu pork, pad thai, chicken gyoza and beef panang. Everybody thought their dish was fantastic. I particularly liked the prawn toast and char siu pork. And the dishes were generous sizes. Would definitely come back for the food!

The Clerk and Well is a real gem, and does something I have never experienced in a pub before, it serves Thai food that is actually pretty good! I am hoping to make this regular for me and my new work pals as it has a pool table and plenty of seats in here.

Squid, Thai fries and chicken satay was fabulous! The rooms are clean and beautiful. Great location. Highly recommend

One of the best pubs in the neighbourhood. Fantastically friendly (and beautiful) staff, lovely airy feel, highly highly recommended.

Lived in London for 2 1/2 years and never got around to reviewing this wonderful little pub! Went here with some frequency to watch football, esp Euro Cup 2012 and Champions League matches. In London, pubs that serve Thai are quite common and this one is definitely worth a visit! Never had bad service here, but they are laid back...just keep in mind it's a pub and you might have to go to the bar once in a while. They have a good ambiance, nice decorations, and comfortable furniture. Have taken people here because they serve good Thai food, have a nice ambiance, and have a good selection of drinks available.There's plenty of TVs, pool table in the back (though that's always taken), and decent and clean restrooms.

Good menu and a good atmosphere. The staff aren't always as attentive as I'd like but I think it's because they're so busy!

To be frank, I don't really like here. Though the service is great enough with comfy seatings but it is also too too slow. The thai food they provide are not authentic at all, and my stomach was a bit unset after I ate their oily oily salmon salad. All I can say is that it is a superb place to grab a drink and chill with friends unless you have plenty of time. I must still mention their 25% off student discount is really real, even applies to a single drink order.

Well, it's where the name of the place came form and it's just as curious as all the other underground secrets the area has like the House of Detention. There's not much to see but I like staring at old spots like this and thinking bout the people that must have relied on it over the centuries.
