Kamu at The Coach & Horses Leyton - Review - Leyton - London - The Infatuation

"Seeing as London is the kind of place where you can lose a pair of sunglasses and not notice for 14 consecutive slate-gray days, it’s hard to appreciate just how many great sun-trap beer gardens there are in Leyton. But we have a particular soft spot for the one at The Coach & Horses, a classic, Chesterfield-lounging boozer that also happens to be home to some decent Sri Lankan dishes, courtesy of kitchen residency Kamu. Inside, gents who are six-decades-deep into their friendships grab a pint at the bar and locals park themselves in front of one of the massive screens while mainlining chips. But slip through the back door and you’ll find fairy lights, hideaway booths, heaters, a covered section with screens, and most importantly, long benches where you and five friends can dip paratha in dhall in the sunshine. Save it for a day when those sunglasses are finally required and stick to the fried paratha-packed kottu for a satisfying meal that’ll encourage those pints to keep on flowing. Food Rundown Paratha Flaky and soft. That’s how we like our lovers and our paratha, and this version delivers. It tears at the slightest tug. photo credit: Heidi Lauth Beasley Mix (Chicken & Lamb) Kottu The bar staff will ask you if you want this medley of cheese and paratha pieces kind-of spicy or spicy, and we’d lean towards the latter to balance out all of the heavy breaded goodness. Sunday roast was tasty had the trio, the portions were big, the chicken seems a little dry, the beef was a bit chewy… I am not normally a fan of pork but wow the pork was delicious!!! So I gave the rest of the meat to my dog

A great pub for Craft Beer and Real Ale which is a few minutes walk from both Leyton underground station and Leyton Midland Station. I counted 24 Keg taps and 10 cask taps, and when we visited there were 7 different cask beers and 16 different keg beers offering a variety of styles and breweries. They also have a decent range of AF beers in the fridge. We've also had the Sunday roast twice now, and both times was very tasty, especially the rosemary and garlic roast potatoes. It's also worth noting that the Gravity Well brewery tap room is only a few minutes walk away (who are probably producing some of the best hazy IPAs at the moment), so it's worth the trip over to visit both.

We booked a table for Sunday lunch and as first time visitors had no expectations. The staff welcomed us and took us to our table and throughout our visit were polite and attentive. The food was unfortunately a huge let down. We had the whole roast chicken (£50 for 3 people) - it was dry and overdone, as were the Yorkshire puddings. We complained and got nothing but an apology. We thought the desserts might make things up but honestly it was some of the worst food we’ve eaten in a long time. The sticky toffee pudding was cold, the sauce burnt and the vegan ice cream tasted/looked horrid. Similar stories for the crumble and brownie. You get what you pay for and while we enjoyed the lamb curry, the rest was terrible. Might be a decent boozer but stay away from the kitchen.

The Coach & Horses — A Pub with Poise and Personality Tucked beside the leafy calm of Kew Green, The Coach & Horses is more than just a stop for a pint—it’s a gentle nod to everything a good British pub should be. It doesn’t shout for attention, but quietly earns it. Inside, it’s all timber beams, soft lighting, and the kind of seating that invites lingering. There’s a lived-in elegance here—no forced nostalgia, just the comfort of a place that knows its rhythm. Locals lean in over pints, visitors settle in with a sigh of relief, and the staff glide between tables with genuine ease. The food? Honest, hearty, and well-executed. The fish and chips are crisp without being greasy, the Sunday roast is a ritual worth repeating, and even the vegetarian options feel considered rather than obligatory. The beer selection leans local, with enough variety to satisfy both the curious and the loyal.

Been going to The Coach & Horses regularly of late and for good reason, it's a proper Free house pub. The beer selection is vast with many cask and keg options which is carefully cultivated to give many brewery and style of beer to choose. Venue is big with lots of seating and screens for sports very comfortable. People make places and the staff here are a good bunch who are friendly and knowledgeable. Probably the best pub in Leyton.

Cocktails, delicious. Roast, 100. Staff, amazing. Vibe, immaculate. Environment, top notch and spacious. Never have a bad time here. Obviously a very well managed place - all the staff were really friendly and obviously very relaxed. Love that this is my local. Thanks gang X

The Coach & Horses isn’t just a pub—it’s a London institution. Nestled on Greek Street, this characterful spot has long been a refuge for writers, eccentrics, and anyone seeking a proper pint with a side of storytelling. It’s a place where tradition lingers in the woodwork, and the spirit of old Soho still flickers in the corners. Atmosphere Inside, it’s all etched glass, creaky floors, and a bar that feels like it’s seen a thousand confessions. The vibe is warm, slightly scruffy, and refreshingly unpretentious. You’ll find regulars nursing bitters, tourists snapping photos, and the occasional poet scribbling in a corner. It’s not curated—it’s lived-in. Food & Drink The menu leans classic British, with vegetarian and vegan options that feel considered rather than obligatory. Highlights include: Steak & ale pie – rich, flaky, and deeply satisfying Fish & chips – crisp batter, proper mushy peas, and hand-cut chips Vegan shepherd’s pie – hearty, flavourful, and surprisingly elegant Cask ales & craft beers – well-kept, with rotating guest taps Wine & spirits – modest selection, but well chosen It’s not a gastropub, but it doesn’t need to be—the food is honest, and the drinks are poured with care.

Yelp
I popped into here Friday night after work to get the wild mushroom lasagna for takeaway (brought my own Tupperware as they only have foil). The place was buzzy but not too busy; it has a good pub vibe. Staff were friendly. It took a while for the lasagna to come out. I also got the charred broccoli with chili and lemon as a side and that came in foil. Decided to take advantage of the 2 for 1 happy hour deal whilst waiting: £6.50 for two rose fizzes was a steal! I ate at home. The lasagna was fantastic! Each bite was bursting with moreish flavour and rich cheesiness. The portion size was not too big to feel gluttonous. I ate it all! My only complaint is the broccoli portion size was WAY too small for the £3.5 price tag. It was tasty but super dinky.

Yelp
Went here last week for the Blues Jam. By a bit after 8pm, the place had a good amount of people, which I found surprising, since England was playing Spain in football in just a few. There is a good selection of beers on tap as well as wines and mixed drinks. I was set with my Worthington's Cream Ale for the night. After chatting with friends and meeting new people, we headed in for the music. A couple very solid bands. Since it was a jam session, my mates were trying to push me to get up there and play a bit. Oh darn, no bass or amps for me to play here. Too bad. ;) Even though Leyton in general is a bit of a trek from Central London, it was a good night all around and I enjoyed myself here. The staff is friendly, speedy and the drinks are cheap!

Yelp
Friendly Irish pub in the heart of Leyton, East London, The Coach and Horses offer two large pool tables, darts board and large screen tv showing premiership football. The atmosphere in the pub is generally relaxed and beer and sprits are very reasonably priced but beware on Saturdays when the place packs out with Leyton Orient footy fans.

Yelp
Old school. Really old school. Big space with traditional bad furniture. Cheap beer. Tv. Pool table. Friendly staff. Local punters. It's a boozer.... Nothing more nothing less but there aren't many left so enjoy before it's flats or full of hipsters.
