The Best New Bars In LA

"The Coco Club on top of The Beacon is the only hotel bar in Santa Monica that tourists haven’t heard about yet, and it's got great views. In addition to hosting dance parties every Friday night (with DJs from 9pm-2am), this rooftop bar overlooking the California coastline has a wraparound terrace where you can sip a tequila sunrise and watch the sun clock out for the day. The place stays calm through the early evening and then gets clubbier most nights and weekends—that's when you can expect a crowd of leather-clad people two-stepping between cheetah sculptures or hoping to have meet-cutes in the green velvet booths near the bar." - brant cox, sylvio martins, garrett snyder

The Coco Club Review - Santa Monica - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"When a rooftop bar hosts DJ sets overlooking the California coastline and still doesn't feel too touristy, we want to tell everybody we know about it. So here goes nothing: The Coco Club on top of The Beacon hotel hosts dance parties every Friday night (with DJs from 9pm-2am), and there's a wraparound terrace where you can sip a tequila sunrise and watch the sun clock out for the day. The place stays calm through the early evening and gets clubbier most nights and weekends—that's when you can expect a crowd of leather-clad people two-stepping between cheetah sculptures or hoping to have meet-cutes in the green velvet booths near the bar." - Nikko Duren

16 Rooftop Bars with Incredible LA Views

"Tuck into this indoor-outdoor rooftop lounge for beachside breezes and views at the former Shangri-La, which is now called the Beacon Hotel. Onyx’s menu is dependably straightforward, with things like Brussels sprouts and sliders on the menu. The cocktails are equally approachable." - Eater Staff

Definitely one of my favorite spots in LA! Such a gorgeous rooftop bar with the most beautiful ocean views and the best cocktails. I love coming around 5pm so I can watch the sun set, and then enjoy the night view of the city once it gets dark. My favorite cocktail here is the Coco Killer (rum, coconut, green apple, agave, citrus), and for food, I love the spicy tuna tartar and the coco burger. The burger comes with fries which are absolutely delicious as well. The service is excellent! Even when it gets busy, the bartender is super nice, friendly, and helpful. For parking, I've been able to find street parking very close by.

This is one of the best rooftop bar in Santa Monica to catch the sunset! With breathtaking panoramic views of Santa Monica beach, the atmosphere is absolutely unbeatable. Whether you’re lounging by the fireplace or soaking in the coastal breeze, the vibes here are 10/10. We had the Pumpkin Spiced Espressotini, The Coco Mojito, and Prosecco, along with the Spicy Tuna Tartare and Fish Tacos. Highly recommend for the views, ambiance, and a relaxing rooftop experience!

This place was such a vibe! My husband and I came on a Saturday around sunset to enjoy a couple apps and drinks. It's truly a hidden gem located inside the Sonder The Beacon hotel. The journey up to the rooftop is via an old style elevator which was super cool too & adds to the retro atmosphere. The interior has a super cute aesthetic, very cutesy. There was a DJ playing fun hip hop mixed in with some edm & the outdoor patio was STUNNING, easily the best view in downtown. I loved the two seasonal drinks I tried, one being a pumpkin espresso martini. The bartenders and servers were also super nice. The food menu was a bit limited but still enjoyable for light bites. This is definitely the place to start your night on the right foot!

Wow! What an incredible view. The cocktails are creative. The holiday beer was tasty. Be prepared to spend a bit. $40 for two drinks plus tip! But sunset views made it worth the price of admission!

The Coco Club in Santa Monica is a true hidden gem, offering a tropical escape right in the heart of the city. From the moment you step inside, you’re transported to a lush, vibrant paradise with its chic, island-inspired decor and laid-back yet energetic atmosphere. It’s the kind of place that instantly puts you in vacation mode, even if you’re just stopping by for a drink after work. The cocktail menu is a standout, featuring creative, tropical-inspired drinks that are as beautiful as they are delicious. Whether you’re sipping on a classic piña colada with a modern twist or trying one of their signature concoctions, each drink is crafted with care and packs a flavorful punch. The presentation is Instagram-worthy, complete with fresh fruit, colorful garnishes, and the occasional tiki mug. The food menu is equally impressive, offering a mix of light bites and heartier options that pair perfectly with the drinks. Think fresh ceviche, coconut shrimp, and sliders with a tropical flair—everything is designed to complement the island vibe. What really sets The Coco Club apart, though, is its lively yet relaxed ambiance. It’s the perfect spot for a fun night out with friends, a casual date, or even a solo escape to unwind. The staff is friendly and attentive, adding to the overall welcoming vibe. If you’re in Santa Monica and looking for a unique, tropical-inspired experience, The Coco Club is a must-visit. With its delicious drinks, tasty bites, and vibrant atmosphere, it’s a little slice of paradise that keeps you coming back for more. Don’t miss out on this Santa Monica hotspot!

Haven’t been to a rooftop in a while, so why not go to the beach during winter lol?! Parking: They have valet at a ridiculous price $$$, or you can get lucky with metered parking spots around the area. Ambiance/Environment: This rooftop is located in ‘Sonder The Beacon’ hotel. They’re on the 6th floor. Take the elevators up by pressing PH. It’s a medium size space with indoor & outdoor seating. The outdoor area is nice with a beautiful view of the beach, and we could even see the Santa Monica Pier. Some furnitures seem outdated and not as clean. Service: The bartender that assisted us was knowledgeable about the menu and even gave us her favorite recommendations. I believe her name was Amber? But shout out to her! What we ordered: 1) Coco Burger - 80/20 beef burger, caramelized onion, bacon, cheese, passion fruit BBQ sauce, lettuce. This was one of their popular food items! It also came with fries. The burger was cooked well and had lots of flavor! Make sure to dip everything in their sauce! Idk what’s in it, but it tasted amazing lol! 2) Fried Hot Chicken Sandwich - pineapple slaw, Swiss cheese, garlic aioli. This was also another one of their popular food items. The chicken was huuugggeee. It wasn’t as spicy to me, but it still tasted good. I drenched everything in their dipping sauce. 3) Drunk in Love - spicy, tequila blanco, Serrano, agave, watermelon juice, lime juice. This was recommended to us, and I loooved it! It was definitely spicy. It’s also on the sweeter side, yet still strong. 4) Pumpkin Spiced Espressotini - I chose tequila, and this also came with black coffee liqueur, pumpkin spiced syrup, & espresso. This was so strong, I couldn’t taste the pumpkin buuut I still enjoyed it! If you love coffee and alcohol like me, this if for you! 5) Pendejadas - poblano infused tequila, mezcal, prickly pear, mole bitters, citrus, black salt. This was also recommended to us. Ooof this was strong! Not too sweet. 6) Margarita - Who doesn’t love a classic cocktail? Had to keep the tequila theme going lol. Pricing: We came to a rooftop bar for an experience, and that’s what we got. The views were amazing! The cocktails were fun, and the food was delicious. The furniture can use an update, but the vibes and music were lit.

New rooftop bar with ocean views has just opened in Santa Monica. The aesthetic is tropical and vibrant, and the drinks here are one-of-a kind. This has to be my new favorite rooftop bar! They also just launched their food menu so we had to try their fish tacos and spicy chicken sandwich. What are you waiting for? Head on up to the Coco Club. Thanks for reading! ^-^

Nice rooftop bar to see the Santa Monica sunset! Good vibes and good music! There’s seats inside and outside - we mainly stay at outside as we can see the sunset perfectly! We ordered some drinks ( the coco mojito and the cosmo ), both are good. For food we ordered the coco burger, short rib taco and the fried hot chicken sandwich. The chicken sandwich and short rib taco are our favorites- they are flavorful. The burger is huge so it’s a deal. They also have in house DJ which is fun! If you are in Santa Monica definitely check this rooftop bar up! It’s walkable distance from the pier to here.

Yelp
Super cute rooftop bar in Santa Monica! My friend and I found this place on Yelp to catch up over drinks. It was already dark when we got here, but the staff told us to come back on a day where we can watch the sunset because the view is breathtaking. The drinks were good. Service was great. It was a Friday night, but the place cleared up by 11:45pm, so we had the rooftop to ourselves. Talking to the security guard, each weekend is different, as the previous Friday they were packed. I love a crowd, but thankful to get some good quality time with my friend visiting.

Yelp
If you're in Santa Monica and looking for an elevated experience, with delicious drinks, a beautiful backdrop, and breathtaking views, then The Coco Club should be at the top of your list. The interior is tastefully decorated, giving an atmosphere that is both chic and inviting. On a good day, the outdoor patio will offer stunning rooftop views that stretch out over Santa Monica. The cocktail menu is full of creative concoctions that are both unique and flavorful. From refreshing mojitos to bold mixes, each drink is crafted with fresh ingredients and unexpected twists. The bartenders are very friendly and knowledgeable and are happy to give you recommendations. My personal favorites were the 2 coco drinks - the Coco Killer is sweet and creamy, but also pretty strong in alcohol so you'll def feel something; the Coco Mojito is also sweet and very refreshing from the cucumber juice. Sage Against the Machine is the strongest out of all the drinks I've tried and wouldn't recommend it for those with a low alcohol tolerance. They also have a limited food menu. I tried the avocado dip - it normally comes with plantain chips, but I substituted with pita bread. Unfortunately, they didn't have any regular chips, which I feel like would have paired better with the dip. The coconut shrimp, on the other hand, was a 5/5. It comes with 5 pieces and a side of Polynesian sauce - the shrimp were fried perfectly and the sauce was amazing!!

Yelp
Came here for drinks with a friend on a Saturday afternoon and it wasn't busy at all! Amazing views and cute decor inside and outside. But the reason why no one was here was because 1 drink is $29!!!!!! $29!!!!!! I am a LA native and trust me I know that you get what you pay for in ambiance, but this is absolutely ridiculous. The drink it's not even cutesy or filled up. See the pic. No fun lil decorations or anything special and it's 60% full with a giant ice cube. Will not be returning on principle.

Yelp
AMAZING experience! Staff were super nice, drinks were amazing, and the atmosphere was perfect for an after dinner cocktail. The rooftop views are stunning and if I lived in the area this would be my new go to. The inside is a mixture of Élephante and The Beverly Hills Hotel, super unique. If you're in the area I recommend checking this place out. We went on a Wednesday night around 9, and there was plenty of seating.

Yelp
Coco-NUTS about the fact that there's finally a new rooftop bar in town! @thecocorooftop , located above @sonderstays in Santa Monica, is the culmination of the best of LA nightlife, with fun vibes, poppin' music, refreshing cocktails and an unbeatable oceanfront view of Santa Monica Beach. There's a bit of a wait to get in during busy weekend sunset hours, but the incredibly crafted cocktails and views are definitely worth waiting for. Bartenders were definitely fast and efficient as well despite large crowds, and I really appreciated how the owners/managers are present, checking-in with their customers and thanking them for visiting. Definitely make sure to check them out for their gorgeous sunset views and for a fun night out with friends! Featured here: coco killer white lotus desperado naked city

Yelp
The Coco Club is a tropical inspired rooftop bar and has an outside seating area with just absolutely stunning views of Santa Monica and the beach. We came here for some late night drinks on a Thursday and there was plenty of seating. The bartenders were quick and friendly enough, but the drinks are a little pricey...I guess you're paying for the views? Pretty chill spot with quick service and strong drinks. I'm sure I'll wander back in here eventually.
google avatar

Lara P.

Yelp
We came here on the early side (around 5:45/6 pm) on a Saturday night so the bar wasn't too crowded. There was a DJ, which added a great vibe. The drinks were ok - definitely overpriced for what they were (I think it was $46 for 2 drinks before tip). However, the reason to come here is the outdoor/rooftop area which has a wonderful ocean/sunset view! Although this place seems like it would be popular later at night, I recommend coming during sunset so you don't miss out on the view!
google avatar

Johana H.

Yelp
I've been here a few times now. Easy to get in and not so crowded even if it's a small spot. There is a crowd but you can still walk around. There's seating inside the bar as well. The rooftop is cool. Love the spot to get away from everything and watch the sunset. The bartenders were friendly. Drinks are pricey but what's new? So if you're on a budget just be ready to splurge on the drinks. If the drinks were more decently priced I'd give it 5 stars.
google avatar

Yelp
Cute and chic little rooftop bar with excellent views of the Santa Monica pier. The drinks were good, the service was great, and the crowd was gravy. Great place for birthdays, shindigs, or a romantic lil getaway

Yelp
If you're looking for your next spot to grab drinks and bar bites, the Coco Club is your next stop! This hidden gem is located at the top of the Beacon by Sonder hotel and has stunning views of the ocean. They have a vibrant tropical theme from their decor to their food, like their Coconut Shrimp. Their drinks were good and had fun names like Pendejas and Drunk in Love.

Yelp
Beautiful rooftop views of the santa monica beach & pier. Super easy to get into and wasn't so crowded when I went to see the sun go down. It's a super small spot with limited indoor and outdoor space. The drinks were super expensive for what they were but I guess you are paying for the scenery
google avatar

Aalia S.

Yelp
This is a cute rooftop in Santa Monica. They have a DJ and a great view. I was surprised it was sort of empty when I got there. The inside was beautifully decorated, but no one was inside. I ordered a glass of wine and got a corner seat outside that had the best views. We ordered fries and they took a while to get to us, but other than that it was a great experience.
google avatar

Niaz K.

Yelp
The newest bar in Santa Monica and the vibes are there!!! This rooftop bar has an amazing view of the sunset so i definitely recommend going for golden hour. They have DJs that play the best tunes. I always take out of towners here because this rooftop is the reason I moved to Los Angeles (I'm not even kidding). I love the views, drinks, music, sunset and people that hangout here.
google avatar

Eric W.

Yelp
Place has so much potential with the view and the space they have. However it misses the mark in just about every other aspect. The drinks are not good, the service is awful, and the build out is soooo weird. The Outdoor area is like a mismatched hodgepodge of chairs and tables with a lot of under/un-utilized space. I don't know where to go when I go outside because there's no natural flow to the place and a bunch of wasted open space with chairs randomly placed in open spots with no table near it. It feels like someone with zero hospitality or design experience put this place together on a shoestring budget. If it didn't have the view it has it wouldn't last week.
google avatar

Steve W.

Yelp
We went on a Tuesday and were able to score the outside patio with the fire pit, which was really cool. There was one bartender handling the inside and outside, but we could just go inside and order a drink if she was handling other inside orders. My friends ordered some food, which they said was very tasty. I don't go out much anymore now that I have kids, so it was sticker shock having to pay $96 for 4 well drinks though. But I guess you pay for the ambience, being on a rooftop bar.
google avatar

Hunter F.

Yelp
Good view, but no reason to have increased your prices from $21 to $29 per cocktail. Kind of insane pricing, and even a small draft beer is $15 now. Will be avoiding until prices get more reasonable, this is not the Four Seasons.
google avatar

Dean C.

Yelp
Went here with my date during the day on a Saturday and good crowd, cool place, I think the owner could possibly make the place just look a little more polished. But I really appreciated the dark skinned gentleman running the floor really kind saying to us and others things like "we are glad to have you". Stuff like that goes a long way in people's minds. The female bartender was personable as well. Check it out, it's a good place
google avatar

John V.

Yelp
$52 for two drinks. Heaters provided none. Take advantage of the sunset view. No beer available. Didn't have the ingredients for the drinks. Dirty inside.

Yelp
This remodel looks amazing since it used to be hotel shang gri li. The mixed drinks were big and the ambiance is amazing. The beauty of the ocean at night is so romantic. A must go spot in Santa Nonica

Yelp
I hosted a Team Happy Hour for 30 people. Rooftop views are great, servers and staff great, food was mid, drinks not terrible. It's an art deco hotel, appreciate the design, but it's an old hotel. Booked a space, pre-order food, they customized a menu nice touch.
google avatar

Yelp
Great atmosphere on the rooftop with delicious drinks and live music from a DJ. The views of the ocean and the setting sun are amazing!

Yelp
Great beachfront bar with awesome drinks. We went when it was cloudy, but I bet it's amazing in the summertime with clear skies. Best part is you can get a drink then chill at the beach

Yelp
Worst Experience Ever! If I could leave zero stars I would My bf and I came here on Monday 6/24/24 to have a drink and watch the sunset on their rooftop. We walked in and was greeted by the bartender who was making drinks and said she would be right with us. The cocktail waitress next to her told us that if we were ready to order that we could pay for it now and she'd ring us up. I ordered the white lotus and he ordered the desperado. The cocktails here are $21 (pretty pricey) but understandable since they are offering a rooftop view of Santa Monica beach. We ordered our drinks, paid (plus tipped before getting our drinks) and went out to the patio to catch sunset in the knick of time. About 10-15 min later, we were wondering where our cocktails were so my bf went inside to check on them. He asked the bartender and apparently she seemed clueless that we had ordered drinks even though the whole order transaction was literally done right next to her with the waitress she may have just forgotten. My bf came back to tell me she barely started to make them now and was getting right to it.. fine.. we'll wait another 5-10 minutes for our drinks.. he goes in again and comes back with no drinks.. ANOTHER 5 min later he goes back in to check on them and eventually HE brings them back to us. We sipped our drinks and watched the sunset then decided to go inside since it was a bit chilly. He finished his but I still had a quarter left of my drink. We sat inside talking and enjoyed the ambiance inside for a bit, aside from there being a brown paper bag of takeout food trash where we sat. As I finish the last sip of my drink I see what I thought appeared to be a flat piece of ice cube (which was a little weird since I ordered a martini style drink). What I thought was an ice cube was actually a piece of BROKEN SHARD GLASS. I quickly spit it out and told my bf that literally as I had my last sip, I found a piece of glass in my drink. Very upset he goes to ask the waitress and bartender if they had broken any glasses that night. They said no and he showed them what we found. I could hear the waitress say "Oh no!" and another customer nearby heard the conversation came over and asked what is was. It was literally an inch long piece of broken glass. I walked up to tell the waitress and bartender how I thought it was ice but realized it was glass and all I heard them say to each other was that maybe it was from a martini glass (something must have broke that night and it was not cleaned up very well) they said no apologies or nothing. Angry, upset and frustrated my bf and I walked out of this place extremely disappointed. Not only are we paying for overpriced drinks but the service was terrible. They were quick to charge us for our cocktails but not quick to make them. And when confronting them about the shard of broken glass in my drink not even apologetic. We should have spoken to a manager or requested a refund, IDK SOMETHING. This place is terrible to ever come back again or recommend to anyone. We were in utter shock and it ruined the rest of the night for us. My throat and stomach felt uneasy the rest of the night due to this experience at The Coco Club. On the way out I decided to use the restroom which is right by the door when you exit. Bad idea. Since there was absolutely no soap refilled in the restroom to even wash my hands. REALLY? This place was not even busy on a Monday night. There's a whole section in the patio that's cut off from the public which also looks aesthetically unpleasing and no one is allowed to go over there. They just have a couple cones set up there and it looks dirty and ugly. Truly truly one of the worst experiences I ever had in a rooftop cocktail bar. This is so disappointing since there aren't many rooftop bars in Santa a Monica to choose from.
google avatar

Rachel S.

Yelp
Amazing views! A great place to grab a high quality cocktail and watch the sunset over the ocean. It seems to get busy after sunset, but if you arrive an hour before you should be able to grab a solid spot.

Yelp
Very nice place to have a social or with a special someone on the rooftop overlooking Santa Monica Beach and Pier! Great food and drinks!

Yelp
I visited The Coco Club for the first time and it did not disappoint! The Coco Club has ocean views and is the perfect spot to grab a drink and watch the sunset. The cocktails were delicious and the food was so good as well! I love the vibe and the interior design. They even had a dj! Highly recommend visiting The Coco Club!

Yelp
Great view, food and drinks. The bartenders were excellent. I will definitely return because the view of the ocean and pier is awesome.

Yelp
Staff is rude. Managers are even more rude. They literally kicked us out for stating how we felt. And explaining hardships to them. No one was drunk. No one was belligerent. Just being pure rude to clientele who paid good money for crappy drinks. Too bad cuz the view was good. Never going back.

Closed at 1:30 when time to close is 2 am. Paid over $50 for two drinks just for them to close 15 minutes later. Line was ridiculously long when rooftop was empty. Would Not recommend.

Yelp
Lilly and Junior were top notch at service, fun to watch bartend, delicious drinks, and fast at what they do!

Yelp
Coco Club is such a cute space. The vibes are just right and it's the perfect place to catch the sunset. The pumpkin spice espresso martini was my fave. Shoutout to Pablo for taking good care of us! Parking is tough but def worth checking out

Yelp
Horrible experience as we were not even allowed to enter. My wife is pumping for our infant. We had her mobile breast pump supplies with us in a small bag. We were told we couldn't enter because we had bags. We notified them that the bags contained pumping supplies. He asked us where the baby was and didn't believe we had pumping supplies. He became belligerent and told us that he didn't have a manager when asked to speak to someone. It's unfortunate that this venue chooses to discriminate against mothers and choose to break California law. Don't support this establishment.

Yelp
Came here after struggling to find parking, just for it to be closed for a private event. The security at the bottom immediately asked us what we were doing there and told us it was closed for the event. The security then recommended us to go to the restaurant on the bottom floor; and when we did, we were greeted by a rude waiter that told us we could sit down if we want, but they're not open for 20 more minutes. Ha ha ha. Went to boa steakhouse down the street and they were so much more kind

Yelp
Cozy place with great views and terrific cocktails. The bartender was quick and the staff were cool. How can you go wrong?

Yelp
This place is not like the pictures... at one time maybe it was but you can tell this place is struggling. We were looking for a nice rooftop spot to grab a drink and thought we found the perfect spot with the coco club but we were wrong. For starters, the elevator that you take to get to the rooftop is the same elevator they use to run food (there is no service elevator). They were out of everything we tried to order off of their menu. They did not have any of the typical liquors you would expect to find and the wines listed on their menu were not even close to what they actually had. The interior had a strong odor which explains why not a single person was inside the place on a Saturday night. We figured we would still give it a try and grab a drink of what we could. Myself, a glass of wine and my husband, a vodka soda which ended up being some strange brand we had never heard of as they were out of your typical choices (titos, kettle one, etc.). We went outside to the exterior patio which had a decent view of the pier/ocean. The outdoor furniture was a bit weathered. When we sat down, we each took one sip of our drinks and decided to leave - both were horrible. The wine must have been open for a few days and not kept at the proper temperature. I would not recommend this place.
