Houston’s Best Coffee Shops | Eater Houston

"This new coffee shop is located in the Conservatory food hall in the Galleria area and offers an array of creative coffee drinks. Along with traditional sips like cortados, cappuccinos, Americanos, and specialty teas, favorites include the hot or cold pistachio cream latte made with a pistachio paste, crushed spices, and a hint of white chocolate. The Ube Cloud latte is a close second, made with an ube brown sugar syrup and topped with a velvety and very purple ube cold foam. Those abstaining from caffeine can enjoy drinks like charcoal lemonade, or its bold and tropical Purple Goddess hibiscus tea, which is served cold and infused with toasted cinnamon and pineapple juice." - Brianna Griff

Google
Super cool coffee shop in a food hall. Really cool vibe inside this hall. Ordered a large Americano with extra shot...great smooth tasting. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Definite stop if you're in the area!

Google
I had an excellent visit to this cafe today! The staff was incredibly sweet and helpful. She took the time to explain the different coffees and ingredients to us in great detail. We ordered an iced pistachio latte, which was delicious, and a mocha with chocolate nibs that was equally fantastic. Despite a slight delay, she generously gave us an extra triple chocolate pistachio cookie, which was a delightful treat. Overall, the service and quality of the drinks and food were top-notch. Thank you for a great experience!

Google
We really enjoyed the pistachio latte, strawberry nirvana latte, and the one cinnamon roll. The place itself was really cute tucked away in the conservatory! The staff was also super sweet and helpful! Definitely will come back!

Google
This coffee shop is hidden below in a corner of a fancy food court. Hint, it’s next to the bar below just as you enter the door. The service was quick my flat white was good. It had strong Carmel notes and the espresso roast wasn’t too dark.

Google
Very nice coffee shop inside a food hall! Their coffee was delicious with strong espresso and good flavors. They had a lot of interesting/creative drinks on the menu that I look forward to trying. I am a decaf drinker usually but they were out of decaf when I went. It seems that they don't have decaf regularly, which is a bit unfortunate. Otherwise a good experience.

Google
Staff was extremely nice, helpful, and friendly but the cold brew was pretty mid. And the tea not so great. Especially for the price of almost $6 each. Didnt even finish mine and wouldn’t go back. Cute area with some other food stalls but this wasn’t impressive to me especially considering how high the reviews were.

Google
I’ve tried the cold & hot Pistachio latte. The hot has to be my favorite! Also their mocha is 🔥. Great music, friendly, staff, & great vibes! It’s located in the Conservatory Food Hall with other businesses worth checking out as well!

Google
Fantastic coffee spot! Very cute design with a lot of plants, located in the Conservatory food hall (which is amazing overall). They have unique ube cinnamon rolls which are delicious (sweet but not too sweet, compared to a typical american cinnamon roll). And coffee tastes great too!

Yelp
Though my encounters were brief, I still appreciated The Coffee Garden all the same. As one of the early stalls of The Conservatory Midtown, they were easily the greenest spot in the entire venue with quality coffee to match. Unfortunately they abruptly closed in the last few weeks, leaving behind an empty space and a coffee void for what is now Stestí Food Hall (#1). Midtown is not a hot bed for coffee anything, so The Coffee Garden really did pride themselves for providing craft coffee along with a number of matcha and THC infused brews. Additionally they also had a limited number of fresh pastries that ran out daily in the form of croissants and mostly cookies from Sinful Bakery. I really enjoyed their ultra fluffy pandan matcha and their array of ube drinks. The pistachio cream was always a popular choice and littered with a good chunk of pistachio pieces. It might feel cliché but the golden hour (double espresso, Texas honey, cinnamon, + milk) was always a fabulous choice. I think what I'll miss most is the smiles from behind the counter. The owner was always so sweet and bubbly with her recommendations. I do hope they find a new home in another part of town and if they do, I'll be among the first to line up for a drink. ___________ (#1) Stestí Food Hall: https://www.yelp.com/biz/stest%C3%AD-food-hall-and-beer-garden-houston

Yelp
I was intrigued with trying this place when casually browsing on Yelp for coffee shops. The Coffee Garden is actually located in The Conservatory, a food hall in the Midtown area. The food hall is super spacious with plenty of seating. I originally wanted to come here to study but I was the only customer in the entire food hall and felt awkward sitting there by myself. What drew me to this place was the specialty lattes on their menu. I ordered the pistachio cream latte and it was absolutely delicious! The pistachio flavor is prominent (there's also pistachio bits on the top) but there is also a good amount of cinnamon. The barista was super thoughtful and actually asked if I was okay with cinnamon before I ordered. I can definitely see myself coming back here but only on occasion as their drinks are a bit pricy. The lattes are ~$7 and if you were to do a milk alternative + tip you'll be paying almost $10.

Yelp
I needed a coffee fix on a Sunday morning pre-errand run around greater Houston. My partner and I had The Coffee Garden in our collection and had to check them out. They're located in a cute food hall in/around the Midtown neighborhood called The Conservatory. In all, there appeared to be about 8 or so different food and drink options (and we'll definitely be going back to try those too). Houstonians have been so friendly and welcoming to us and the employees here were equally kind and explained the most popular options on the menu. One is pictured - the Pandan Matcha Latte - and it certainly lived up to its reputation. The best part was it wasn't overly sweet. We also tried their Lavender Fields option with oat milk - another winner where you could actually taste the lavender. 5/5 superb coffee, excellent service, and a cool environment.

Yelp
So far this is my favorite coffee spot in Houston! The staff are super kind and helpful which is always a plus! I was recommended the pistachio latte as it was one of the better hot lattes and I was not disappointed! At first glance it was aesthetic , but the taste matched its beauty! It came through with the perfect balance of spice. I picked up a slight saltiness, probably from the pistachio shavings and a sweetness that wasn't overpowering, probably from the white chocolate. It was creamy, and almost Christmassy in flavor. To top it all off it had a graham cracker aroma. If you're in the mood for good coffee and sampling small bites, check this place out! It's inside a food hall so there's plenty of seating as well!

Yelp
As I'm exploring Houston, I am so happy to have found this coffee spot, along with the whole food hall it is in. This is one of many establishments in a food hall and it felt very casual and a great mix of coffee options and plants. The staff were nice and asked if it was our first time and gave us some explanation of their popular drinks. I went with the pandan matcha latte because how could I not? Flavorwise, it was amazing. Pandan came through, it was not overly sweet and it was so refreshing on a hot, humid Houston summer day. I will admit its a bit pricey but this is in midtown and seems on par with other coffee shops in the area. I'm excited to come back and try more of their drinks and possibly pick up a plant.

Yelp
Disclaimer: I'm on a hunt for the best cafe to work from as I'm working remote. My review is based on factors for a good place to work from and not necessarily the coffee or food. Overall okay cafe for work and coffee. Noise level - 60db quiet conversation Wifi speed - 4 down 4 up (zoom meeting experience was horrible) Power plugs - more than 10 Seats - 60++ indoors Parking - free 10+ lots and street parking The barista was friendly. It was not busy as this is a new establishment and my coffee was ready within 3 minutes. The coffee was okay. The coffee store is within The Conservatory where other stores sell food items. Only the coffee store was open in the morning. The whole place has a nice communal vibes. You can sit anywhere and in the morning it's quiet. I'll definitely be back in the evening to check it out.

Yelp
Plantyyyy Coffee Shop inside of the conservatory midtown! They have unique flavored lattes like Ube and Pandan lattes. I ordered the Ube Latte w/ a ube cold foam. The Ube Flavor was strong and they were able to sub for oat milk. On the menu was also a honey lavender latte that i took togo. They sell individual bottles of coffees that you can take home as well. Small 2 seater seating area right when you walk in. You can also purchase the plants that are in the store. Parking - limited outside of the conservatory
google avatar

Chandni L.

Yelp
This was a fun coffee spit tucked into the corner of a complex filled with many food options. The ube latte with cold foam was delicious. The employees take their time and care with every drink. I'd definitely go back and try out different drinks
google avatar

Kristy S.

Yelp
Door dashed it and it arrived safely with no spills. The ube drink was so creamy (I req almond milk ) and was pretty sweet. The ube cinnamon roll just tasted like a regular cinnamon roll , but not ultra sweet. The bananas latte (with almond milk) was not sweet at all and I think had real bananas in it. It had a slightly woody or herbally flavor. I didn't enjoy the banana latte. Overall, I'd definitely want to try other stuff

Yelp
I was a bit confused looking for the cafe because the booths and tables were coming from the other side. The cafe is on the other side of the entrance where all the plants are. Customer service was great, the lady was friendly and smiley. They have a couple of cookies and bakery items. I got the special menu iced pistachio latte. It was an interesting taste but I'm not sure if I want to get it again. it is good but kinda bitter. Fast wifi - under conservatory. I went to get my work done on a Wednesday around 1 pm and all the booths were taken. I got lucky and got a table but just a heads up! Overall I think it's a good quiet spacious spot. Good coffee and if you get hungry there is food around. Street parking or use the lot. Fairly easy!

Yelp
Was in town again and discovered my new favorite coffee place. One caveat is that we went early in the morning and it was the only shop in the food court open so we had no issues with parking or finding trouble. So many unique drinks! I loved my pandan matcha! Barista was nice as well and you can tell they don't skimp on ingredients or quality because everything was made to order. If you're in a hurry don't go there! They also sell some of their special drinks in bottles and I came again before I left town to snag some.

Yelp
This coffee shop is located inside the Conservatory which I absolutely loved the vibes of! A little expensive but both my drink and pastry slapped 5/5 food/drinks - purple goddess had a nice sweetness 5/5 service 5/5 vibes - great place to chill and get some work done

Yelp
The atmosphere here is great. The service and coffee is awesome. Nice selection of pastries and drinks. Will definitely be back.

Yelp
Right when you walk into the conservatory the coffee shop is to your right. It is surrounded by plants so you can't miss it. The conservatory is basically an indoor food hall. Everything opens at 11am except the coffee garden and the taco place across from it. They open earlier. I had the pistachio latte and it was delicious with pistachio pieces. I love when pistachio pieces are in my pistachio latte. It takes it to another level and is so delicious. The guy behind the counter was super helpful with the coffee and the conservatory in general, friendly, and welcoming The only downfall is the parking is tiny and at one point someone that either owns one of the stalls or works there parking in a non parking spot behind my car to where I couldn't even back out. The guy that worked at the coffee shop was helpful in getting the keys and moving the car but honestly that shouldn't have happened and she shouldn't have parked there. The parking situation is what will delay me coming back but I would come back at some point.

Yelp
I came across The Coffee Garden on IG and after reviewing the Yelp reviews, I wanted to check it out. I brought my laptop so I could get work done. I circled the block twice because I didn't see a sign. Come to find out, it's inside of the Conservatory Food Hall so keep that in mind. As you walk in, TCG is to the left so I put my things down at a table and went to look at their menu. A lot of the items were cinnamon or pumpkin flavored so that was a no for me. I ended up getting a small hot chocolate which was $4. I thought that was unreasonably expensive but then again everything is nowadays. They also had a cool deal where if you purchased a small plant, you get a free drink. The plants are $18 so there's that. I spent about 8 hours at the food hall and it was the perfect ambience to get work done. If wasn't too crowded because they haven't officially had their grand opening yet. So if I were you, head there now!

Yelp
Omg! I love this place. The people they have serving are very cool and great baristas. I tried the chai latte with oat milk my first time and it was delicious! I love chai! My date had the pistachio creme latte! I know he loved it because he's really big on coffee and he made me take him again. We actually even ran off on our own to go as well. My second go around I had the monkey bread and the lavender fields also lovely. Next time I am trying the chocolate pecan muffin and the pistachio, but the chai so far is unbeatable!
google avatar

Amber S.

Yelp
Came here with two others on Easter Sunday morning and was glad to see this place was open! We parked easily outside and came in. There was no line, and the employees were very friendly and explained everything to us. The flavors here are so awesome! I got the pandan matcha cloud and an ube cinnamon roll. This place is so cute with all the plants surrounding the coffee bar, and you can grab food from other places as well since it's located in the Conservatory. I was very pleased with my order and will be back!
google avatar

Keith S.

Yelp
Peeps! How did I not know. This place is located inside the Conservatory. The coffee is delicious and the vibe in here is infectious. Definitely check them out. Only thing is they only have sugar. No sweeteners here. #Pkast
google avatar

Matthew H.

Yelp
Plant daddy here! Coffee and plants, what! The pistachio coffee was unlike any coffee option I've had before. It was so good! The barista was so helpful with picking two of her favorites. The other was a banana smoothie blended with coffee. Talk about a healthy kick to your morning. Enjoy the plants .
google avatar

Aliza M.

Yelp
I can see why this place is so highly rated! I originally stopped by for a matcha latte, but the barista asked if I wanted to try it with pandan foam - and I'm so glad I said yes. I'm obsessed with this combination! The drink was incredible; it's clear that many Houston coffee shops struggle to make a good matcha, but this place nailed it. The pandan foam had a strong, delicious flavor that elevated the entire drink. I love that The Coffee Garden is located inside a food hall - it's the perfect concept. You can grab a bite to eat and enjoy some amazing coffee. The barista/cashier was so sweet, and I really enjoyed chatting with her. I can't wait to come back. As a bonus, they also sell plants if you're into that!
google avatar

Malek B.

Yelp
So pleased with the coffee, knowledgeable baristas, actually traveling to coffee growing farms, and having a love for excellent quality! Have them tell you the story about the garbage / worst beans going to starsucks... pretty funny and makes total sense. Can't go wrong with folks who care about service, producing a quality product. Located in a food court in the midtown HTown area. I believe they're expanding, keep an eye out for them!
google avatar

Courtney G.

Yelp
The atmosphere here is so cute! When you walk in there are plants all over and such a calming vibe. Lots of coffee and tea selections with several original flavors as well. There are a few different food items... mostly pastries/cookies/oats. With some additional frozen food and drinks as well. Good to know that it is located inside of a food hall and there is a parking lot outside (though it looks like it fills up quickly) and street parking. Cashier was very nice and answered all of our questions and engaged very well with my son (which I always appreciate). Coffee is delicious and doesn't have a burnt tinge at all! Just like I like it. Definitely worth a stop if you're in the area.
google avatar

Kelayne P.

Yelp
I'm not a coffee person. But! I like this coffee spot. They have creative drinks, which is a bonus or me. I'm more of a sweet, creamy Latte kinda girl and boy, do they have a nice creative selection. I didn't go inside, I did a curbside order. Service is impeccable. My recommendation: Iced Pistachio Latte with Oatmilk Things to know: Parking is limited, so either park on the street or call them, and they will bring your order to your car!
google avatar

Minly L.

Yelp
Hidden inside of the conservatory, is a Garden that provides some tasty coffee beverages. I love the atmosphere and how it hides behind a bunch of plants. The staff is also super friendly and nice.
google avatar

Emmy S.

Yelp
So this place is highly rated and I can see why, I originally came for a matcha latte and the girl asked me if i wanted to try it with a pandan foam I'm glad i said yes because i LOVE THIS COMBINATION. The drink was so good, i feel like many houston coffee shops just can't make a good matcha but they did an amazing job and the pandan foam had a strong pandan flavor that i love! The coffee garden is located inside a food hall so you can eat and have coffee its a great concept. The cashier/barsita was so sweet and i enjoyed talking to her. Def can't wait to come back they also sell plants if you're into that!
google avatar

David R.

Yelp
Ordered the golden hour latte. Tastes amazing. Ambiance is amazing and there is ample seating and outlets. I studied here for three hours and it felt like one. Such a great find in the Houston area. Will be back for more!
google avatar

Kelly C.

Yelp
We came on a weekday afternoon. The parking lot was full, but we were able to find street parking. It is located within the Conservatory food court and has a lot of plants. The food court has plenty of seating/outlets so we were able to get some work done. Service and ambiance: 10/10! Pandan matcha cloud - I loved the flavors, but I wasn't the biggest fan of the neon green color... Pistachio latte - "good unique flavor good taste of coffee overall 9/10" - friend They have fun drinks, and I am excited to try the other ones next time!
google avatar

Mike D.

Yelp
Best coffee in Montrose Midtown area. Excellent lattes and cappuccinos. Very cool vibe and clean environment. Cool staff and service is always prompt.
google avatar

Raylin M.

Yelp
I love coffee and matcha..hands down one of the best I've had in the city. I highly recommend the pandan-matcha cloud latte; it's a taste that's hard to explain..you just have to experience it. There isn't a whole lot of seating in that specific spot, but you can find chairs and tables around the building. The service was incredible..the baristas know what they're talking about.. and even took the time to share with us a little bit of their story.
google avatar

Timothy W.

Yelp
Super sweet place, clean and neat. The coffee was superb, probably one of the best places so far that I've personally tried. There was only one employee there who did an awesome job by herself. She got all of the drinks out in good time considering that she was alone. Overall a really great place.
google avatar

Amna I.

Yelp
This cute coffee shop is located in a nicer part of Houston so I was looking forward to trying it for a while. However, I dont think it was as good as I expected. It was a good $7 for a basic latte that I could get anywhere.
google avatar

Kianna F.

Yelp
The quality of the coffee was really good. The Strawberry Nirvana tasted like a milkshake! I will definitely be back
google avatar

Sonia B.

Yelp
Drove here on other side of town to find they are not open according to their advertised times. Tried to call no answer.
google avatar

Heather L.

Yelp
The Coffee Garden never disappoints! The owners are a young couple who are super sweet and are really trying hard to make their coffee shop a success! They roast their own coffee and it's consistently delicious. They also sell plants (hence their name) and for "kids" in their 20's they actually know what they're doing! They have turned their 2 passions into a cute little coffee spot and they're doing great at it! (The only downside is limited parking at their location but don't let that stop you from trying them out. Unfortunately they can't control that aspect!)
google avatar

Kirsten M.

Yelp
As other comments have mentioned, This shop is located inside of the Conservatory. I got the pistachio cream latte, which was very pleasant. I asked the barista to go light on the white mocha that was in the drink and it was perfectly balanced for me. The drink was made with care and had such a smooth taste and finish. I came around 9am, so there was plenty of seating and parking available. I look forward to trying the other cool places in the conservatory- starting with the fresh smoothie bar!
google avatar

Michelle W.

Yelp
The Coffee Garden is located in Midtown's newest food hall, The Conservatory. The pisatchio cream iced latte is to die for! The employees were so kind as well.
google avatar

Genesis V.

Yelp
Great customer service and it's cute little corner coffee shop. Would definitely come back again.
google avatar

Christine T.

Yelp
Pandan foam had just a good enough hint of pandan and was airy and delightful. The matcha latte portion wasn't grainy and overly sweet sooo good :3

Chass R.

Yelp
I placed an order on July 28 for delivery through Toast and never received it. I've been in contact with the company as well as DoorDash for over a week. The company claimed multiple times that they processed the refund, but DoorDash confirmed that isn't true. It's clear they're giving me the runaround to avoid refunding my money, and I've had enough. Each time I speak with the manager, she says it's not something she can do on her end, despite the fact that they took my payment. All I want is my money back. I won't bother trying to place an order again; the first experience was bad enough. My interaction with the assistant manager was particularly sketchy. DoorDash stated they already processed the refund to the company, so all they need to do is process it to me. Don't shop here if it can be avoided.
google avatar

Malinda R.

Yelp
Such a cute coffee shop! Probably the best matcha I've ever had so I will definitely be back. Thanks Andres!!!
google avatar

John N.

Yelp
I had the honey and lavender latte and it was really good. Very good quality coffee and the flavor of the lavender was delicious.
google avatar

Patricia L.

Yelp
I just tried the orange rind shaken espresso drink recommended by the owner, Andres. Absolutely amazing! Only high quality coffee would withstand the test in this drink where the espresso is the star--that's definitely the case here! SO smooth!! The orange is refreshing and adds just the right kick. Another unique drink from The Coffee Garden!!

Shyra B.

Yelp
Amazed at this place. First - this was my first time trying Coffee Garden and I am impressed. The food hall itself is so dope and gives you plenty of options to try different things. The owner was taking orders + serving the orders. She was so sweet and nice. The customer service was top tier. Last the aesthetics was EVERYTHING. They sale coffee + plants, this is very unique and different.

Deja H.

Yelp
drinks are SO GOOD. it tastes like they use quality ingredients and you can tell they put time and care into each drink! The plants make the ambiance super cute. The only thing that could be improved is the pastry selections.
google avatar

Collin E.

Yelp
Leaving a review because this place is new and needs the advertisement for how good it is. For those of us who are coffee aficionados, few coffee places understand the assignment - this place does. Cappuccino was excellent and pandan matcha latte was delicious. This place is quickly rising to the top of my go to places. Staff and place is small and personable. Conservatory is large and if you want to study there are plenty of seats with electrical outlets.
google avatar

Michael C.

Yelp
Had the delicious Golden Hour drink, one of the best coffee beverages I've had. The atmosphere is great for any sort of meetup and paired with all the other offerings of the Conservatory makes this a go-to coffee spot for sure. Excited to go back!
google avatar

Neja F.

Yelp
The Coffee Garden is by far one of the cutest coffee shops I've ever been to, but unfortunately for me, the aesthetics are the only good thing about this place. Located inside of a food hall called The Conservatory, this place is tucked away to the far left side of the building. It's not hard to miss as you can't help but admire the amount of plants they have to offer! Short and simple menu, offering a fair amount of coffee and teas. Interested in their "specialty lattes", we ended up getting the iced Golden Hour Latte, and iced Pistachio Cream Latte. I was super excited to give these a taste, but unfortunately these just didn't do the job. Both lattes tasted like milk; no taste of espresso or the flavors mentioned in the drinks name. The Golden Hour Latte lacked the taste of honey, and the Pistachio Cream Latte had no taste of white chocolate or pistachio; the only "pistachio" taste came from the crumbles on top of the drink. The baristas were extremely nice and the shop itself is very beautiful, but unfortunately I left unsatisfied as I feel that I spent $7 for essentially a cup of milk. I will definitely give this place a try again in the future, just not anytime soon.
google avatar

Carla P.

Yelp
I just find this place accidentally and I am in love!!! They are so nice and the coffee is amazing! Small but full of good vibe! Service is amazing!!!
google avatar

Rebecca B.

Yelp
Despite being a bit pricey, this place has a great vibe, and my pistachio latte was WONDERFUL!
