"There are few better coffee shops in San Francisco — maybe the West Coast — than the Coffee Movement. Strident hipsters will hike up Nob Hill until they die, but the new-ish outpost on Balboa Street has room to hang out, exquisite pastries, and tremendous glass windows to capture any lingering San Francisco sun. The usual menu of innovative coffee drinks, such as the seasonal coffee cream soda, is available at this location. Cafe pop-up Hi-NRG, two baristas who cut their teeth here, in the Inner Richmond is worth investigating, too." - Paolo Bicchieri
"Led by Bryan Overstreet, the coffee operation will be on-site weekday mornings serving coffee and homemade doughnuts 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Friday—'more accurately, maybe the most well-made coffee and doughnuts San Francisco has ever seen.' Chocolate, lemon, and a rotating third doughnut flavor will be fried each morning by the restaurant team, and Overstreet and his team of top-notch baristas will serve piccolos, lattes, espresso tonics, and seasonal drinks. The house blend and a light-roast single origin will be on deck, the latter rotating; at first, It Girl roaster Dak will be up for grabs. The soft serve is made with the house blend, 'malt and cherry notes singing through the creamy, swirly treat.' Overstreet says, 'This space is going to hit the mark,' and, 'I’ve never shared a space with another crew or team. We just share a lot of common qualities and interests.' He adds, 'It really shines,' and that they’re 'trying to R&D an affogato, too.' The partnership grew from a mutual friend who knew Overstreet—who is 'heavily inspired by Japan'—would click with the Browns; Parker Brown remembers saying, 'Wow, that’s our personal favorite.' After expanding in 2022 to its Balboa Street location, Overstreet says the business is selective about partnerships: 'We’re very selective,' and 'This is one of those magical moments, flower on the sidewalk kind of deals.'" - Paolo Bicchieri
"Most of the seating at The Coffee Movement is right along the windows, which makes this Richmond coffee shop the ideal place to zone out into the foggy abyss and let your brain go blissfully blank. The seasonal lattes here are excellent, and alternative milks don’t cost extra, in case you also need to secure your first small win of the day." - julia chen 1
"Circle Chan, representing another local coffee outfit, won fifth place overall at the 2025 U.S. Barista Championship in Raleigh, North Carolina, helping the city secure two top-six finishes, Sprudge reports." - Dianne de Guzman
"An outfit that has "dipped toes into the space" of fruit-savory coffee with a lemon and smoked-apple drink, signaling interest from specialty roasters and cafes in more savory or cocktail-like coffee preparations." - Paolo Bicchieri
