18 Best Restaurants on the Outer Banks | Eater Carolinas

"In a land where the seafood is most often found breaded and deep-fried, Colington’s offers tasty respite for the gluten-intolerant and avoidant alike. The gluten-free menu includes classics like bacon-wrapped scallops, filet mignon, and chicken and shrimp in a French-style tarragon sauce. The regular menu contains versions of the same dishes and more, leaning hard into classic steak house items like shrimp scampi, lump crab cakes, and surf ‘n turf platters." - Matt Lardie

Oh my goodness, just incredible on every level!! So welcoming and kind, attentive, and most importantly DELICIOUS FOOD!!! Everything was sublime and thoughtfully put together and prepared! I'm rarely impressed or happy, no joke look at my other always very honest reviews, I could not have been any happier or any more satisfied! My only complaint is that I didn't order more, although I'm bursting and to capacity, I would have figured it out somehow. Thank you, for the absolutely perfect experience!!

To say we had the BEST time at Colington Cafe on our girls trip would be a severe under statement. Not only is the physical building adorable and quaint, the staff are like characters out of a book. They were so kind, welcoming and just the right amount of funny. There were hats when we came in and they encouraged us to wear them for dinner. We went for it. Angela, Maren, Sydney and Cameron really knocked this experience out of the park for us. The food was also a 10/10. We are from Florida and have yet to have an experience like this. Highly recommend going whether it’s a date night, with family or just for a girls trip away from your kids. This restaurant and staff are truly a gem.

Very nice place and great menu. I get the shrimp scampi and ask them to put it over pasta. All the desserts are homemade and delicious especially and cobbler. Definitely make a reservation.

Incredible food from start to finish. We chose to celebrate our anniversary here for the past 2 years. The filet mignon is melt in your mouth soft. Great selection of drinks and desserts. The atmosphere and service are wonderful. They even gave us a little bottle of champagne to take home with us since it was our anniversary, a very nice surprise! Definitely recommend a reservation.

My Husband took me here for our first anniversary and it was spectacular. I ordered the fried shrimp in lemon butter sauce. Each entree comes with perfect garlic mashed potatoes and savory mixed greens. My Husband loved the crab cake over filet mignon. At the end of our dinner, the waiter brought a tray of each of the desert options so you could actually see it and make your choice without having to reread the menu over again. The blueberry/apple cobbler w/ice cream was amazing! Wonderful, joyful staff and cozy, elegant atmosphere. We’ll be back!

First time walking out of any restaurant. Summary 1. Don’t expect to be seated on time even if you made a reservation 2. Dirty silverwares, chipped glasswares 3. Cold food, sands in scallops, stomachache in the end 4. Poor services (unprofessional server who ignored the customers when kitchen was delayed for more than 1 hr+, no explanation was given to the customers by servers nor manager, 4 entrees ordered but only two warm ones came out) I was traveling NC (Asheville and OBX) with my friends. Very friendly people. We made a reservation to this place for 7:15 PM about a day or two before. Parking was a nightmare because no clear line for parking spots and so many people were at the restaurant for dinner. So, we were very excited. We went to see if the table was ready at 7:15 but the hostess told us to wait 15 min. We thought it was strange that we had to wait even after we made a reservation prior. But we waited cause things happen right? But we waited 25 min or more. Very hungry people. No elevator, one female and one male restrooms for two floors. It was cute though. We went upstairs and got seated. The server was nice and sweet, thorough with the menu. Silverware!!! Dirty. Watermarks (understandable), dried up food. We asked for a new one. Another dirty knife with dried up food. Whatever, I gave up at that point on changing out silverwares. We ordered an appetizer, the table across from us had their food and looked great. The table behind us was seated around the same time with us but ordered before us. You see how I was paying attention to everybody? Because there was always a long break between order taking and delivery of the food to the table. We finished our rolls (tasted undercooked, and typical frozen dinner rolls) By the time our appetizer came out which took like 20 min, the table across from us finished their meal and ordered desserts. Took the server about 30-35 min to bring the desserts to the table. And we all thought we were screwed. Even premade desserts take that long to come out then our steaks will take days!!!! But we waited patiently only because the servers were nowhere to be found and they were only available when foods were ready. Finally, after an hour and 15 min, we got two entrées out of three we ordered. Seafood pasta and some scallop and shrimp dish. Not hot just warm, overcooked pasta with dried up sauce, sand in every bite of the food. Two steaks?? Nowhere to be found. That’s when we called nope, we leaving. Of course we had to go downstairs to look for someone so we can pay what we “ate”. Manager looking person apologized very briefly. That night two of us who ate the scallops got sick. Two days after, the restaurant called and apologized and asked if they could give us free dessert. Such a horrible dining experience ever. Only if they let us know in the midst of all the kitchen chaos. We probably cancelled our meals and didn’t have to waste our time or suffer with stomach problems. So unprofessionally handled. Never could imagine 35 year + restaurant handling the situation like this. DO NOT RECOMMEND

Google
We love this restaurant for its food and charm. The ding for atmosphere is because it is so crowded and the decor could be so much more. Also, our server was super sweet and it’s not her fault but she had so many tables it took so long for us to feel engaged. Thirty minutes until we had drinks… seemed long. However, still wonderful dinner.

A lovely fine dining restaurant for the Outer Banks! Always a great experience! The staff makes you feel warm and welcomed! Definitely recommend reservations! The food was delicious and cooked perfectly!

Yelp
SUPER impressed. This was our first time here and we will for sure be back next time we are in the area. Our waitress was great and the restaurant has a nice clique ambiance. Appetizer: Scallops Rumaki- absolutely delicious. The savory bacon flavor complemented the sweet umami flavor of the ginger teriyaki glaze and the scallops were super fresh and perfectly cooked. Mains: Shrimp and Scallop Napoleon- The shrimp and scallops were some of the best I've eaten and I loved the uniqueness of the Sherry cream sauce. I'll definitely be trying to re-create this at home. Seafood Pasta- my wife is allergic to Shrimp and they were happy to accommodate. Dish was bomb- pasta cooked spot on and did I mention how fresh the seafood is?? Dessert: Blackberry and Peach Cobbler- 10/10. Piping hot with a generous portion of vanilla bean ice cream on top. Chocolate Mousse Cake- my wife had this and she really liked it. I tried a bite and the cake was nice and moist and had a fruity drizzle on it. *side note* As I was writing this review at the restaurant, a "Karen" that was sitting behind our table approached our table and made an unsolicited and rude comment towards myself and my wife for literally no reason. This was the only rotten moment of our otherwise great evening. So yeah, at least one of their regulars sucks so hopefully you don't run into her.

Yelp
Dinner on the night of our 25th wedding anniversary, and our first time visiting, Colington Cafe had great marks on multiple review sites, and was called out in places like Reddit, too. The atmosphere is cozy-cottage, with beautiful live oaks arching over the entryway, and crisply set tables within. Our server, Andrea, was kind and patient with questions. Thank you for the anniversary gift of a take-home bubbly! The meals we had, however, were unfortunately bland - my scallops and my wife's shrimp meal. There was no option for sides, just the "side of the day" which was plainly prepared vegetables. Creme Brule for dessert was the best part of our meal - second only to the great recommendation of the hostess on a spot to see the sunset.

Yelp
We requested outdoor seating when making our reservation. Come to find out they only have one table outside, and it's in a screened in gazebo next to the parking lot. In theory, it sounds quaint and romantic to eat in a private gazebo, but I wouldn't recommend it. Mainly because it took us over an hour to get our food, and I presume it's because all of the action is inside. Food was good, but nothing that would justify the long wait. Once we brought it to their attention, things got better, and I do appreciate that.

Yelp
Been coming here for years as part of our annual OBX family trip around Thanksgiving. It's charming and cozy, but they can still accommodate larger parties (we are a group of 7) if you can handle going upstairs, and are ok being up close and personal haha We called a week in advance to have the most flexibility in time and date for a party our size, and they were happy to help us as we needed to adjust a little. Check their website, this time of year I think they only have evening hours, so the phone line doesn't open until later afternoon as well. Everyone here is friendly and the food is delicious! Some of our go-tos are the Crab Bisque, Scallop Rumaki, and Brie appetizers. I always try to get their special that is usually salmon in a light cream sauce, topped with crab and served with asparagus and whipped potatoes of some variety. The salmon is always amazing! This year the special was served with flounder instead. I found it too bland, compared to what I'm used to from them, but perhaps that's just how flounder is? Some other entree regulars in the family are Shrimp & Scallop Napoleon, and the Seafood Pasta. The only catch (pun intended?) is that both are creamy, saucy dishes. Great for taste, but not for having to pick your shrimp. Unfortunately, the kitchen leaves the tails on the shrimp in these dishes, and when we asked about it the kitchen said they do not/would not shell them. Meaning you have to pick your saucy shrimp out and de-tail them yourself. It's a bit messy, especially at a white table cloth establishment, and means you either have to use your bread plate, or you are digging around in your dish and hope you don't slip and send any food flying. If you are looking for fine dining, romantic setting, elevated seafood... Colington Cafe is certainly a delight (aside from the shrimp tails ;))

Yelp
Celebrated our Anniversary here on Tuesday and place was outstanding, staff super friendly, server was excellent and food was phenomenal. We had fillet with lump crab, two desserts and they also sent us home with an extra dessert and mini bottle of champagne. If you are in the obx please go here, oh and call for a reservation, we went on a Tuesday and it was packed so I'd strongly recommend reservations.

Yelp
Oh my gosh this is one of my favorite places! Entire design is amazing!!! The staff is so friendly and amazing at their job! Food was outstanding including deserts. The manger came around many times to check on us. They accommodated our picky eater. They were fast! There were fresh roses on the table it was amazing! They had such a cute outside garden and gazebo. I can't recommend enough.

Yelp
My brother-in-law found Colington Cafe and made reservations for our party the first night in the OBX. I wanted something on the lighter side so I decided on a Caesar salad with a crab cake on the side. Hubby wanted steak, he ordered the 8 oz filet mignon. I really liked the crab cake, it was super moist and had no filler. I thought the salad was fresh and tasty as well. A simple yet good meal. Hubby thought his meal was just okay. I tried a piece of the filet mignon which was tender but definitely needed salt. The veggies were forgettable as were the mashed potatoes. He was somewhat disappointed with his meal. Dessert sounded really good so we both ordered the toll house chocolate chip cookie pie and enjoyed it. The crust was a little dry but the ice cream and chocolate sauce helped. They were out of the cheesecake which is what hubby originally wanted. Overall, I would say Collington Cafe was more of a 3.5 star but the service was very good so I bumped them up to a 4. The grounds and gardens were also beautiful so we had a nice view from our dining table.

Yelp
Perfect family spot for a fancy dinner while after a day at the beach. I visited with a group to celebrate a birthday. The server was fun and informative. Food come out quickly and was delicious. Our highlights include: - the crab cakes are meaty and come with a nice lemon caper aioli - the wine process are below market! Get the bottle it is a saving - being able to see the desserts before selecting one is fun. Try the Mandarin orange cake! Be prepared for your visit! Make a reservation, the cafe is cute but small, and if you cannot walk up steps be sure to reserve a first floor table.

Yelp
Just a great fine dining restaurant just of the beaten path of the outer banks. It's in a classic old white clapboard house set in the lush coastal greenery and old weatherbeaten trees. We were on the island during our anniversary and decided that this was the nicest place for a fine meal. We think that decision was good. In fact, we were completely surprised. We both had Halibut with crab meat piled on top, served over a bed of polenta with a few roasted carrots on the side. Honestly, this ws one of the best meals I have ever had. Everything was cooked to perfection. We had a nice bottle of wine to go with the meal. They have a decent selection and reasonable prices. Service was perfect, attentive but not rushed in any way. The staff was friendly, polite, and informative. There were a few guys in jackets, but overall the dress was nice casual. The place was quiet, not crowded. We could carry on a conversation easily. We did on occasion start a conversation with the folks at the next table and we completely enjoyed their perspective as they lived on the island. I don't think you will find a nicer upscale place to dine on the OBX. Certainly not for the price we paid.

Yelp
Colington Cafe is our go-to up-scale place in the Outer Banks. It is not a tourist seafood place on the strip. It is a fine restaurant off the beaten path. We have tried many different entries and they were all great. The service is outstanding. The ambiance is delightful - it is an old house with a few different rooms for dining. This is a great place for special occasions or for dining with special friends.

Marilynn W.

Yelp
Colington Cafe consistently offers upscale dining at a surprisingly affordable cost. The food is not only beautifully presented but it is delicious. This is always a must go to when we are at the beach.

Jill S.

Yelp
We have been coming here for a long time. The food and the service remain consistently excellent every time we visit. The owners take great care to ensure that you have a pleasant dining experience. Don't forget to have dessert because it is top notch and certainly worth it!

Yelp
From the moment we stepped into the building and were promptly led to our table next to a window looking out at the garden the wife was in love with this quaint little restaurant. The SheCrab Bisque was excellent, as was the Caesar salad. I ordered the catch of the day which was yellow fin tuna grilled to perfection, wifey got the seafood pasta which had shrimp and scallops with a seafood and bacon cream sauce that was very flavorful and begged to be sopped up with the warm bread they served. We topped off the meal by sharing a crème brûlée that was awesome. Our server Zach was both attentive and funny.

Larry B.

Yelp
reservations accepted!! food is delicious, service is excellent!! the steak is the best on the island.... especially topped with crab meat!! espresso is out standing!!!

Yelp
This was such a fun experience! The cafe is really beautiful and has a whimsical atmosphere. It is a bit of a fancier restaurant, which makes the experience better in my opinion! Some of the best service you'll get locally. We had 2 waiters for our table specifically. It felt very intimate and personal! The food is great. Quality food with quality portions. The filet was incredible!! This place may be a bit expensive, but it's really good if you want to have a nice dinner in a beautiful restaurant.

Yelp
The food and atmosphere are excellent. The prices are very reasonable especially for the quality Beautiful place. Really nice people.

Yelp
We had the most perfect anniversary meal here. The food was incredible and we loved everything we had. We started off with the autumn harvest salad and pimento cheese, both of which were so good I forgot to take a photo before we ate it all. We then ordered the seafood pasta (AMAZING) and the salmon and crab special (also amazing). The seafood is fresh and cooked to perfection. We ended the night with the best crème brûlée I've ever had and a huge slice of coconut cream pie. In lieu of a dessert menu, they bring you this beautiful platter of all the desserts and you get to choose which ones you want. The atmosphere is also wonderful. Each room is beautifully decorated like a southern coastal bed & breakfast. Staff are very friendly without being overly attentive. Like I said, this was the perfect, romantic dinner for two. Can't recommend it enough.

Yelp
Call at 3 pm 2 weeks ahead for a reservation. Great food and a beautiful restaurant the price is very fair the employees are great. We visit yearly from Pa.
google avatar

Michael G.

Yelp
Reservations we ready right away. Folks were extremely nice. Service did get off to a slow start. I think she was sat back to back to back. Very busy for one waitress. Ordered app and entrees and food come within a reasonable amount of time. All food was good but slightly just a tiny bit over cooked. Not burned but a little extra char on the meats. Everything was quite good. Just slower service than usually.
google avatar

Yelp
We never go to the Outer Banks without a visit sometimes twice! Always delicious seafood and other creative dishes. Feels like you walked into a beautiful country French restaurant with the decor and lush gardens. Make sure to save room for desert. It is always to die for and as good as it looks. Service is exceptional and very friendly. Will definitely keep coming back!!

Yelp
My family and I made reservations for this restaurant based on some personal recommendations we received. Initial take, I can understand the appeal as it has a ton of character being nestled in between some trees in an old house. Each room feels like Grandma's house in all the best ways. We had great service for a party of 10, not knowing until we started that they won't split checks (but they will itemize or run different cards at the end). For an appetizer we ordered the Brie which was good, nothing spectacular. Their bread was mediocre rolls but they were hot and soft. Their Caesar salad was small but well seasoned with the right amount of dressing, but lacked any character. I had the steak with shrink and covered in crab in bernaise sauce. The portion size was smaller but I actually appreciated it. The sides including the green beans were unfortunately cold upon arrival but the steak was perfectly cooked. For dessert, I had the tiramisu which was fine, but unnecessarily covered in a chocolate sauce on top that was very overpowering. I understand the appeal, and the meal was reasonably priced, but it is not a restaurant I would hit during our annual vacation.

Wendy P.

Yelp
The seafood pasta was fantastic! Host and staff very friendly and engaging. Service excellent! Ambiance enchanting- very quaint French cottage vibe. Great dining experience.
google avatar

Yelp
Lovey cafe with white table clothes. Excellent filet steak. Best in OBX! Make a reservation and avoid the wait. Attentive, fast service. Deck waiting area
google avatar

Meredith C.

Yelp
In our opinion, this is the best restaurant on the island and beyond. The food is impeccable, the service is top notch and the ambiance is classy yet warm and cozy. We ordered the Mixed Grill, a nightly special with Halibut and Crabmeat and the Pasta Primavera which we requested to be veganized for our daughter. All of our food was delicious and temperature perfect. Please do not miss out on coming here but make sure to call ahead for a reservation.

Kristen M.

Yelp
The restaurant is so charming. We had reservations and were seated in a small upstairs room. It felt like luxury private dining. The meal was fantastic. We loved everything, especially the scallops.

Yelp
Beautiful quaint place, food is delicious, staff was informative and gracious.....so glad we decided to go here to celebrate my wife's birthday, highly recommend!!!!!

Yelp
We have been to Colington Cafe a few times and have never been disappointed. The restaurant is in an adorable Victorian house that has wonderful decorations everywhere. The service and the food is exceptional. On our last we started with the she crab bisque. We practically licked the bowl clean. We also had the scallops rumaki. Delicious! We also ordered a dinner special and the filet & crabmeat. Also, very delicious! One down side to the restaurant is that it doesn't sell liquor- only beer and wine. We look forward to it opening back up in the spring!

Yelp
Absolutely wonderful. My first time and surely not going to be my last. Everything was perfect. From the host, to the view upstairs to the pink room. We had Miss Andrea and Zach and they were awesomeeee! Totally forgot to take pictures of our appetizers or meal, it I promise, it was all amazing. * We started off with just a simple salad, which was quite delish. * I had the Seafood Pasta $28 Penne pasta tossed with sautéed shrimp, scallops and applewood smoked bacon in a light cream sauce -I'll never order that anywhere else again! It was absolutely incredible. * Miss Courtney had the Shrimp and Scallop Tropicale $27 A combination of shrimp and scallops grilled to perfection topped with our tropical fruit salsa. * We finished off with two desserts. The toll house cookie pie & the coconut pie. I'd say my favorite meal during my week in the outer banks and we will be back.

Yelp
The Yelpers have this one right and I'm piling on. This is a must. Outside is beautiful, inside is cozy and welcoming. Staff is top notch. Food was fantastic. Make a reservation, put on your cute casual beach outfit and go! My family had the bacon-wrapped scallop appetizer, Caesar salad, filet and crab cake entree, seafood pasta entree, and crème brûlée.....all were divine! Adding to our list of places to dine each year during our visit.

Yelp
Ahhhhhamazing! Highly recommend going and enjoying this beautiful cute place! Food and service is amazing! Make a reservations for sure! Won't disappoint!

Yelp
We have been eating at Colington Cafe for 20 years, both as tourist and as local residents. We continue to go back because we are never disappointed. Service is great, atmosphere is wonderful and the food is alway terrific. The winning combination...good food & good service and the prices are extremely reasonable! Please don't change a thing !

Yelp
If you want an amazing dining experience, you should go to Colington Cafe! Their food is out of this world, the menu has everything you could wish for, the staff and the service is fantastic, and no matter where you are seated, it feels like it's the best spot in the restaurant. They make you feel special and part of the family when you dine there and they create a special mood that I haven't seen elsewhere!

Yelp
This small family run restaurant has been highlighted several times in various articles. I've been here a couple of times and both experiences have been stellar. First time our group of about 10 women sat in the upstairs open dining area. It can get quite loud depending on your fellow nearby diners. My second experience was sitting in the screened in outdoor gazebo. That was fantastic. If the weather is perfect, then I highly recommend that table. It's private and can seat up to about 5 people. The food is very good. Our groups(both times) enjoyed the various shrimp and crab meals. I've ordered the salmon topped with crab meat(all meat and no filler). I did have a different sauce each time. I wasn't a fan of the red sauce on my second experience. My husband loved the Alfredo sauce on the chicken dish. My friend did mention that her strip steak was not as tender as she expected but her overall experience was good. The desserts are huge. They are presented on a tray for your choosing. Once you select a dessert then a nice fresh one is brought out and it's almost twice as huge as the tray. Service was fantastic both times. The staff is so accommodating. They also have a gluten free menu so ask for it if you need that option. Make a reservation because it can book quickly.

Yelp
Came here for our anniversary dinner and I'm pleased to say that all the positive reviews are right. This place is beautiful and the food was amazing. We didn't partake of the alcohol offerings so my review doesn't consider that. I would have liked to see some "fancy" non-alcoholic options if any critique. At least like a fresh lemonade rather than the minute maid off of the fountain. But not a big deal. I got the crab bisque to start which was so creamy and delicious, plus you could really taste the crab. My husband got a cheesy crab dip which was also delicious. I chose a special that day which was a salmon with lump crab, broccolini, buerre blanc sauce, and goat cheese mashed potatoes. The salmon was cooked perfectly and I loved the big chunks of crab (without having to do the work myself!) The goat cheese mashed potatoes were amazing but I could put goat cheese on anything and love it! My husband got the tropical shrimp and scallop dish which he also really enjoyed. We took home chocolate cake with raspberry sauce which tasted homemade and very fresh. Definitely recommend for a date night or special occasion. When we went it was already dark but the grounds look lovely and had romantic lights out front. Reservations definitely recommended.

Yelp
This was a good dinner spot overall. I enjoyed the veggies, the steak was cooked perfectly, not wowing in flavor but still good, the crab cake was only okay but the sauce for it was very good! My sisters meal came with Mac n cheese and that was a hit. They don't have cocktails here as a side note. Prices are a bit high for the area but it's one of the few nicer places to dine around. Dessert was good, we did the brookie! That was my favorite part of dinner.
google avatar

Paulette H.

Yelp
We have eaten here numerous times over the years. It had always been my favorite place on the Outer Banks. This time I was disappointed overall. Enough said.

Mike C.

Yelp
Been here 3 times so far since completing a home not far away. First 2 were fantastic. Went for New Year's Eve and overall ok, service fine, atmosphere good. Food, on the other hand, not up to par at all. The combo app was way over done and scallops just were not very fresh. Crab cake was way over-done. Got the BBQ Chicken Alfredo for one dish and the chicken was way over-cooked, an pasta sauce was rather runny...portion of pasta was laughably small. Same for the Seafood Pasta dish, portion just lacking and was just not fresh. Other was the filet mignon...overall nice, but the veggie medley had an off tasting spice in it...not able to peg it but maybe 5 spice? Wasn't good so left the veggies alone. Questioning a return after this one.

Paolo F.

Yelp
The best meal we had in the Outer Banks! Loved this hidden gem in a quaint old timey house. Of course we started with the award winning she crab bisque which lived up to the hype. They change the specials often, today we had the pan seared rockfish with jumbo lump crab and house made hollandaise sauce. We also had the fish dujour (fish of the day) which was fresh caught yellowfin tuna. Finished the night with blueberry peach cobbler for dessert. We didn't have any wine but still talked to the wine lady who was very knowledgeable and kept the menu up to date. The wait staff was friendly and talked to us about our trip. Perfect spot for date night. We will definitely come back anytime we're in OBX!

Jennifer A.

Yelp
Food was amazing. Service was great. Everything about the evening was excellent Price was reasonable for the quality of service and food - will definitely return.

Wayne H.

Yelp
Awesome food and service. An experience we will definitely repeat whenever we can. Very friendly atmosphere.

Dolores W.

Yelp
Classic home ambience. Service was gold star. Had the beef and tuna mixed grill. All was delicious and they modified my dinner to be gluten free.

Butch F.

Yelp
The service and food were both excellent. So much so, we returned the next evening to try a different meal, and it didn't disappoint either. We had a waiter one evening, and a waitress the next, and both were on top of everything. We will be making a return trip to the cafe next trip to the OBX.

Yelp
I am going to be generous and give this three stars. Reason being that nothing was bad, but food was not very good. More like OK. Seeing the 4.5 star rating we were expecting something much better than this fare. For example; I had the fresh catch, Ahi Tuna. NOT sushi grade and pretty tough. When I asked for a steak knife, I got some attitude that it was like butter and the knife was not needed. Wrong, not the case. Deserts were nothing to write home about, considering we were told there's a pasty chef. Again, not bad, just not great either. The best part of the meal actually was the salad. Of course the ambiance is really nice, very charming place. But if you are looking for gourmet, you may want to keep looking.
google avatar

Renee B.

Yelp
This place is great little gem! Their specials were by far the best dishes on the menu! The service was the BEST too-Ask for Courtney. We were there with 6 people and this is what we ordered: 4 of us got the Halibut with crab Napoleon Scallops and shrimp Filet with crab cake- the worst dish. The crab cake was like a hush puppy and the beef was just OK. Important tip - they ONLY serve beer and wine. They are outside the city limits so no hard liquor. If I ever come back to the Outer Banks... I would definitely go back! We just loved it all!

Yelp
What a wonderful surprise this was! Nice and cozy ambiance, delicious food made with high quality ingredients, and outstanding customer service. I loved the vintage decorations that resembled France, the gazebo outside is also very cute! They have a delicious tray with all the dessert offerings that comes to your table at your request. Kinda old fashioned but I think it goes perfectly with the whole theme of the restaurant. The plating/garnishing could be improved but all that falls behind once you taste de delicious, delicately combined flavors and the amazing crafting of each dish. Another thing that could be improved (not sure how) is the funny smell that hits you when you enter the place. It was not that intense and you quickly forget about it once the warm fresh bread comes to your table! I think they're doing an amazing job and this is definitely a place to go back to! 100% recommended.

Yelp
Probably the best food we've had on the east coast to date. I had the salmon dish which was the special tonight and it came with crab meat, broccolini and mashed potatoes. The desert display which the server brought out was amazing and difficult to choose from. We did the triple chocolate cake. My wife had the Ahi which came with shrimp. Everything was first rate fantastic. The service was really on top of things, very attentive and outgoing. The classic old house is the perfect ambiance among the oak trees and forested area. A perfect evening out.

Yelp
We are vacationing and chose to try this place for dinner. A real hidden gem. The inside seating is unique, bright and cozy. The server was attentive and friendly. My crab cakes were good but the steak was even better, tender and tasty. Parking is terrible and I would recommend a reservation You really can't go wrong have dinner here.

Yelp
What a charming café in the OBX! This cottage styled restaurant is nestled in a gorgeous knoll surrounded by majestic trees and beautiful foliage. The gardens are well manicured, there's a lovely gazebo and some outdoor seating should you have to wait for a table. We made reservations and were led to our table right away. We sat out on a little enclosed porch area with floral wall decorations and chintz valances. The other rooms were just as quaint, appointed with antiques, straw hats, flowery wreaths, vintage pictures, lots of pink and sage, the main room features a fireplace. Our server greeted us with a smile and was attentive and polite throughout the evening. She went over the specials and she knew her stuff! I chose one of the specials; the surf and turf, filet mignonette and tuna steak (each 4 oz.) with garlic mashed potatoes and sautéed broccolini. The filet was so tender I could cut it with my butter knife and the light mushroom sauce was delicious. I wasn't keen on the tuna... it was meh. The potatoes and the greens were perfect accompaniments to my meal! The presentation was beautiful and the meal was superbly executed. My table mate ordered the fried shrimp and fries and loved both! With my meal, I had a glass of Malbec that was smooth, not too dry and complemented the filet well. When the dessert tray was presented, we allowed our temptations to rule! My friend chose the chocolate chip pie which was tasty (I had a few bites!) and I ordered the crème brûlée. Frankly, I wasn't fond of my dessert, and the observant server noticed I set it aside. She asked about it and I mentioned it was not set firmly, a bit soupy. She took it off the bill and the owner came and apologized, and even offered to bring me a different choice. What great customer service. I declined the dessert, but was impressed with the prompt and courteous resolution. The facilities were designed with a garden theme, pretty and clean. We loved our dining experience here and I'd return next time I'm in the OBX! Sooo close to 5 stars. One side note: the server station is a bit awkwardly located in the narrow hallway, across from the restrooms and near the sunroom. There was some precarious congestion getting in and out, with customers waiting for the facilities, the hostess seating people, the servers bustling with dishes, especially when it got busy. Be careful there.
