"Despite being just a 10 minute drive from the centre of Chard, there’s a wonderfully rural feeling that accompanies a visit to this former 17C farmhouse. The inn is nestled in a lush green valley overlooking the Blackdown Hills, with its converted outbuildings turned into bedrooms. The cooking offers dashes of creativity while still delivering satisfying pub dishes like slow-roasted pork belly. They take a local, seasonal and nose-to-tail approach to their ingredients, with animals reared on site and produce grown in the kitchen garden." - Michelin Inspector

We stayed 2 nights in autumn for a walking break and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The Inn itself has a great friendly atmosphere a very friendly team of staff and 2 great chefs. The food was delicious. The breakfast was a fantastic high quality buffet and you can even boil your own egg. Our room the Dray was very small but the bed and linen were comfortable. Fine for a short stay but a bit cramped for anything longer. The abundance of footpaths and bridle paths and quiet lanes is perfect for a walking break. We walked to Stockland and had a great lunch in the Kings Head.

I can sense the atmosphere when walking into a pub and I can honestly say that it was extremely calming and pleasant. We had a shared platter for Sunday lunch which I highly recommend. 3 meats and all the vegetables were perfectly cooked. The service was lovely with mild cheekiness which I love and nothing was too much trouble. I could sense that all the staff enjoyed working there and worked well together as a team. Well done to the chef, waiters, waitresses and management. We will definitely be coming back. Thank you so much.

This is a lovely place and room was well equipped for my needs. I love a good shower and bed; here they are to a very good standard. The inn is welcoming by all the staff the food and drink was wonderful and to a very high standard. I would stay here again, while in the middle of now where (very much a city girl) I felt safe, well looked after.

Wow, an incredible place! Our first visit to The Cotley and we can’t wait to go back. We went on Boxing Day and it was truly the most magical experience. The warmth and hospitality was second to none, the food was outstanding and quite frankly we didn’t want to go home! A true gem, the whole team at The Cotley deserve every success, thank you for the most memorable Boxing Day

A totally hidden gem, a little off the beaten path but that’s what makes it feel even more special! We didn’t stay the night but were blown away by the food - particularly the French style chocolate mousse with croissant ice cream - the menu was intelligent and thoughtful. Clearly an incredibly resourceful, qualified, and creative chef who has managed to combine the country-pub-ambience with fine-dining flair. Absolutely worth a (big!) detour if you’re in the area.

Went today for a birthday lunch and all was very lovely and certainly as good as other reviews suggest. It's never all about the food though, I value service very highly, and the team were welcoming and friendly. Ambience is important too, and whilst it's hard to define, this place has it. A busy dining room, tastefully decorated, and with tables well spaced so that there was a gentle 'hubub' rather than you hearing people's conversations. Prices were very fair, not much more than you would pay in a typical pub, and everything was lovingly presented. I also like that dogs don't appear to be allowed in the main dining area, but that they are suitably welcomed in the bar. Well worth the reputation, and well worth a visit.

I have eaten there in the past and it was very good, although expensive. This visit I just had a pint of Otter Black Stout. Delicious. The staff are very friendly and courteous. Nice surroundings. Good walking from there as well

Had an excellent stay and meal here whilst visiting family, and have since bought some of the bedding online - it’s that cosy. Lovely touches throughout: from the welcome, to the Dyson fan, large TVS, and “guest pantry” that meets all your needs and more. A really lovely independent / Inn twist on the Pig Hotels. Had a very similar feel throughout. Excellent food, welcoming staff. We will be back for sure.

Excellent food and real ale from the cask. Log fire adds to the atmosphere. Friendly staff.
