The Covey

This is my second time at the Covey, and I’m leaving even more impressed than the first. The food is just unbelievable. Best pasta I’ve had in my life, I’m not exaggerating. The bavette steak was also perfection. Now, the service: the owners make you feel at home, and the attention they gave to our kids is something I never experienced before. If I lived in Ketchum, I’d be a regular. If you are visiting Ketchum/Sun Valley, this is a must.

The food was phenomenal. This is not a quick restaurant however. Every drink took about 30 minutes, there was only one bar tender but they were helping everyone who sat at the bar and in this setting that's a lot of the volume. From appetizer to meal we were there almost 3 hours. The server was new, 2nd day so wasn't sure on a lot but nice guy.

Great food, including a nice pasta section. The clam starters were great. The octopus we liked a little bit less. For mains, the wagyu bavette was so good, though it didn't come with any sides, just a little bit of sweet potato puree. The eggplant was delicious, my favorite dish. Lots of fun cocktails and mocktails as well. Overall, great spot for dinner

Customer service and hospitality is excellent. We walked in and were told a 10-15 minute wait for two bar seats. We sat out near the fire while we waited and the hostess came and got our drink order so by the time our seats were ready our cocktails were being handed to us. The menu is interesting and almost has an Asian flare in the appetizers, followed by several pasta dishes and then entrees that were more classic including chicken thigh, trout, and some waygu options (there is a vegetarian option too). We ordered the cauliflower, pork belly, lemony pasta and wagyu Bavette. Cauliflower is a big portion - flavors are great but we felt the cauliflower was a little over cooked. The pork belly felt like a take on Thai papaya salad - it’s cooked perfectly and served in fish sauce with mint. This was probably my favorite thing we ordered. The pasta I would say you could pass on - while it was cooked to perfection, we just feel there are better places in town to get pasta. The wagyu was delicious and would order it again. This place is definitely worth coming to but be prepared for a pricey tab and nyc priced cocktails (martini was $20 Negroni was $20 but to be honest - they were delicious and worth it)

The two servers for the 10 tables or more were distant and alien feeling. It took 30 minutes to order food and appetizers and another 20 to get my appetizer. I was charged $25 for raw scallops. Once my food arrived. I received bland Wagyu steak of about 6 ounces For $50 please see attached picture this plate was 50+ dollars. and the wife’s pasta had no other taste other than lemon when it was a brisket pasta. If you like trendy places and want to use your money to be seen, please go here, but if you value your money and want value for your money, you’re better off going to the store and cooking for yourself.

Well crafted modern cuisine. Very nice relaxing ambiance. Very good selection of draft beer and wine. I really like that they offer different serving sizes so you can try different beer and wine.Service is average and the price is on the higher side. Overall a very good experience. Recommended.

If I could give this ten stars I would. They made our children feel like they were the most important people in the room, put us at ease, and even gave our doodle a spot to hang so we could enjoy a meal. It was the best experience we have ever had. The meal was exquisite, balanced, delicious, and fabulous. The best we have had in a long time. Thank you so much for making our girls feel so special.

So disappointed. I’m a part-time resident in Sun Valley and this used to be a favorite restaurant of mine but we won’t be back. The food could be inconsistent but the staff was a pleasure. We had such a lovely relationship with a number of servers and the bartender, they made us feel like regulars, even though we were only able to visit every couple of months. It was nice to see familiar faces, so we were bummed to find that all our “friends” had walked out and took the vibe of our favorite restaurant with them. Cole, an excellent bartender and always a delight. Riley, the old manager, always made sure to wait on us when we came in, so knowledgeable and always remembered our favorites and dietary restrictions. Her sweet sister, who’s name I’m ashamed I can’t remember, was such a welcoming presence at the door and their chemistry made the restaurant feel like a family affair. Caroline took care of us a few times when Riley wasn’t in - all smiles and so kind. We loved The Covey but the food is too expensive and isn’t good enough without the positive atmosphere to back it up. Too bad.

Our party of 4 (2 locals + 2 visitors from Palm Springs) had dinner last night and had a thoroughly enjoyable experience. The service was attentive and friendly and the dishes were inventive and tasty. The weather was nice enough for us to be able to dine outside. It was a delightful, overall experience!

Gotta try the pork chop or the Bavette Wagyu! The lamb pasta is pretty delicious. I meant to take photos but we devoured it all

The food is absolutely amazing. It is definitely on the richer side so be ready for your taste buds to have an experience. Emily, the manager, is so welcoming and she makes the entire experience warm and unforgettable. This is one of our favorite restaurants in Sun Valley.

One of the best elegant restaurant in our town. Having the kitchen in view of the guests is quite cool. The bar also is one of the best and most desirable to hang at. Service is just amazing and always friendly. Good is another level as it's full of flavor. And the wine list is excellent. Don't miss this spot. Enjoy!

Favorite restaurant in Ketchum!!! We have come here many times over the years and have always had great service and amazing food. We even bring our young children and everyone is so kind. The owner, Jessie, has kids of his own and always makes our family feel welcomed. He even hung our daughters drawing in the restaurant for everyone to see! The drinks are always great (cocktails and wine) and the food NEVER disappoints. I am a big fan of their homemade pasta! Some people might not like a smaller menu, but we love it! The cauliflower app is amazing too. And the entrees are incredible. From the chicken to the trout, we have never had a bad meal here. They have a great outdoor space as well.

We are out of town guest that have coming to visit SV locals for 20+ years. Our friends with us have been local for over 20+ years. First time we have had a bad invitation into a restaurant or establishment. We showed up for a Friday night cap, there were 20-30 people still in the restaurant and at the bar and the front manager/hostess said, "We are done serving and we are closed." It was a very uncomfortable experience and not inviting. The front hostess was not open to anyone else coming into the restaurant. We wanted a glass of wine and it was 9:15 on a Friday. If the restaurant was empty, it would have been easily been explained, but there were still numerous people in the restaurant/bar. We are sad and disappointed and we will not be going back to this restaurant.

An absolute Sun Valley staple! I hadn't heard of this spot before, but they were one of the only restaurants in town who took reservations, so our group of four tried it out. We were so happy that we did! We sat down and had the cutest view of the mountain outside; this place felt like a cozy house. It was also fun that when sitting inside you have a view of the cooks doing their thang. Our server was kind enough to give us her recommendation when we were trying to decide between two dishes. My pasta was delicious, and the portion was perfect. I'd definitely recommend trying out this spot when in Sun Valley!

We had our wedding reception at the Covey in September 2023 and we could not have asked for a more perfect venue/dinner/night! Emily was incredible to work with as we planned the event months before. We worked with her and the Covey staff to choose a custom menu and signature drinks. On the wedding night the entire Covey restaurant and staff were amazing, super attentive and didn't miss a single detail. The wedding guests raved about the food and drinks, and the bar drinks were an absolute success!! They had a special menu for kids and when speeches rolled around they even pulled out an iPad for our 92 year old grandma to help her hear/see the speakers on the back patio. We are SO grateful to the Covey for helping make this the best night of our lives and would 1000/1000 recommend this venue if you have an upcoming event. Thanks Covey Team! You are the best.

Excellent in ambience, with fresh ingredients including their produce and homemade pasta. We cannot sing the praises of the Covey enough. We booked dinner reservations during the busy Trailing of the Sheep Festival weekend. While this cozy modern elegance meets farmhouse restaurant would have been an ultimate experience for a date night, our expectations were FAR exceeded with our family of four (including two younger children). We enjoyed the mafaldine, lamb cassarecce, and butterleaf dishes. They accommodated a delightful simple pasta for our youngest one, and encouraged them to create artwork while we waited for our meal. Their artwork was proudly framed and tastefully displayed on the wall by the bar. The evening ended with a delightful sweet surprise by the chef/owner and his dog. We will be back, with our family, friends, and for a date night!

Ambiance was great! Decor, atmosphere, staff, all friendly and welcoming and current. Food was innovative and hit the spot. Prices were a TAD high, but all was delicious. I would highly recommend this place for a special occasion or treat. Not priced for everyday but will be back the next time we're in town. We had the cauliflower, scallops and pork belly for starters. Hit the spot and all different. For mains we sampled pastas (a few were more aldente than our preference) but appreciated the fresh herbs an combinations of flavors. Trout with adobo was a bit sour with over pickle but enjoyed the wake up on the palate. Kudos to the 90's/2000's hip hop music! Right up my alley!

Poor and rude management, inattentive service, undercooked pasta. Restaurant used be good when it had a manager.

Terrible service average food. Took 57 minutes to get a vodka soda. Server was not apologetic at all. They Also serve warm water. Not worth the money.

Pretty shocked at walking in 45 before close and being turned away on a Saturday. Bar and seating area was poppin and hostess had no care to be so rude. Spoke to locals after and they said they weren't a fan either. So many other awesome places that have much nicer staff.

Been coming here since it opened and remain a fan. Food is both creative and solid with seating choices at tables or at the bar. My favorite dish is the Rigatoni Bolognese. The bar is fun for a party of two. A major need was corrected this year by the Covey obtaining a liquor license which their cocktail list makes full use of.

Wha a totally disappointing dining experience at covey. We made a reservation for 4 making us pay $50 per person to reserve. We then tried to up to 5 people. We were then told we could not up to 5 top, although we didn't mind crowding. We were then told if we cancelled we would be charged $200. They said they had other people who would come but they sent them away. When we came to dinner our table would easily accommodate 5 people. There was another table across from us that was set for 5. No one came there for 35 minutes. Then when the people came to the other 5 top there were only 4 people. This is the most un-user friendly restaurant I have ever been at. And my family has owned restaurants. I was with a Sun Valley local who will never come back. We were so upset we had 3 beers and two appetizer dishes and left. Again. 5 people would have fit on our own 4-5 top. Management needs help in their CS. We were so upset we could not really evaluate the food we had. Never to return. The food is excellent and they have the best cocktails in Blaine County. Staff are locals and very nice. The room looks amazing and has excellent design, both indoors and in the back patio.

OUTSTANDING. Rarely do you get a chance to have interaction with the executive chef throughout the meal. It was a casual part of our amazing dinner. What a wonderful place with complex and perfect tastes in every dish. We would be regulars here if we were local.

This was my favorite place in Ketchum, I think some of the best food in SV. We arrived on time for our reservations at the bar but it was full so we sat outside for 30 min. My wine pour was pathetic for $22. Got the worst spots at the bar and the bartender barely paid any attention to us. Service was disappointing. Sadly will not be back. Went over to the Pio where we were met with a friendly host.

We had the best time at Covey. It's so fun to watch the open kitchen and it has a warm vibe. We walked in without a reservation and they were still able to seat us at the bar. The bar tender was so nice and gave great recommendations. The food was incredible. We got the pork belly appetizer as well as the clams. They both had the best flavor combinations, highly recommend. I got the bavette steak which was cooked to the perfect temp. My husband got the homemade rigatoni and bolognese which was also delicious. We couldn't have had a better time and look forward to going back next time we are in town. The owner Jessie and the whole staff makes you feel like family.

Five stars for the beautiful cocktails made by Colin. Loved that daquiri - Yum! The food was rich and delicious, but we found the entrees on the salty side. The Steak Tartare was uniquely presented and absolutely delicious. We also loved the Date Cake to round out the evening. This is a beautiful restaurant with an open kitchen and they are turning out beautiful and intricate dishes.

My wife and our two friends have been vacationing at Sun Valley for the week; a truly breathtaking location, with mountain vistas and running rivers galore. Unfortunately, The Covey had us gasping for air with the most disturbing allocation of lemon flavored pasta this side of the Sawtooth mountains. The salad was fine, the cauliflower tasty. The shrimp was raw, slimey and irredeemably gnarly. But Lord above the buccatini tasted like the rotting carcass of a lemon flavored pasta dish. Surreptitiously short on saffron, short on pepper, short on physical pasta, with such a heavy sour lemon paste that my wife felt her stomach acid congealing after the second bite. Sad! The last time we had such a scandalously gross and underwhelming meal was at the Delta Lounge of the Atlanta airport - an incredibly disappointing experience. My wife is so distraught that she's leaving me and taking the kids. When life gives us lemons we make lemonaid; when The Covey gives you lemons, food poisoning and certain death soon follow. Will not be returning.

OMG!!! Covey is amazing. We sat outside for dinner and couldn't have been happier. The food is fabulous, the atmosphere is great and the service was wonderful. Definitely worth a visit.

The Covey is the only place in Ketchum I've been to that attempts a seasonal, creative, New American menu and I deeply appreciate them for trying, when sourcing ingredients can be so challenging in this corner of Idaho. The service is fantastic - once you are past the sometimes chaotic host stand - the backyard patio is lovely in summer, the dining room is airy and modern. By Portland standards, the food is not a huge standout, but when you've tried the breadth of what the Sun Valley area has to offer you come to appreciate a place that is putting in the effort to do modern, delicious, ever-changing cuisine and not just the same "reserve" roast beef they've served for 30 years (IYKYK). We've made time to go on a date at the Covey on almost every trip (2 times a year) for a few years now, and while not every dish hits it out of the park, the kitchen keeps working and getting better and more creative with mostly seasonal ingredients - perhaps because the chef grew up here and has a good grasp of how to use what is locally available. One additional note: it seems unfair and a little low that Yelp allows folks to give the same negative review more than once, years apart. Personally, I've noticed big improvements at the Covey in the years I've been enjoying their food, and reposting an outdated complaint seems both petty and inaccurate.

This is the best restaurant in sun valley. Everything was perfect. Wait staff was great, owner was super helpful and you could tell he was passionate about what he did. 10/10 would come back

We just had a wonderful and delicious time here! The service was great and our food was all delicious! A couple of us had dietary restrictions and the waitress was super helpful. We will definitely be back!

Dreadful experience. The menu is what you'd expect in winter in South Dakota (heavy and not very appetizing). also, the service was VERY slow. there are much better spots in Ketchum. avoid The Covey if you desire a good dining experience.

The buzz surrounding The Covey made me eager and excited to try the new Ketchum restaurant. That excitement was heightened as I entered the main dining room, a nicely appointed contemporary look with especially attractive lighting fixtures. The roaring fire in the open kitchen was the perfect accent to whet my appetite. But following this initial high, some observations and incidents started souring my view of the establishment. For starters one of our fellow diners noted that the two kitchen workers on the salad station were handling the food with bare ungloved hands. Nobody ordered a salad. We ordered a bottle of wine that the wine list indicated was a 2016. After an initial pour, we discovered it was a 2018. Being off by one year may well be a result of running out of the posted vintage. But a two year difference suggests a certain neglect or indifference in their wine service, especially disappointing for a restaurant that features triple digital wine prices. An appetizer special was described as featuring 'foie gras'. What came was pate of foie gras, a very different food item. Just as 'veal sausage' would not be suitable if the order was for 'veal', foie gras in pate form is a disappointment when the expectation is for the actual goose liver. And finally several in our party struggled reading the menu. It uses a poor font and too small a font size. The print seems to be produced to look like it was typed on an old Remington working with a too-often used typewriter ribbon with blotchy and fragmented lettering that further made reading the menu challenging. These nitpicks would have all faded to nothing had the quality of the food excelled. Unfortunately that would not be the case. Our group shared several appetizers and a pasta dish family style, so we each were able to sample the offerings. The roasted Cauliflower was adequate, but totally undistinguished with no hint of the promised berbere spice. The Hamachi Crudo was likewise nice, but the distant flavors of rhubarb and blood orange were not enough to raise the level of the dish much above that of a simple sashimi serving. My misgivings aside, the foie gras dish was tasty. The goose liver immersed in a very creamy pate. But what made this dish is the 'watermelon jam' that sat atop the toast point with a schmear of pate. The flavors combined for a very delightful taste sensation. We shared the Campanella pasta that included tomato water, stracciatella cheese and basil. The homemade pasta itself was very good. Trouble was the accompaniment. Despite its thin-sounding name, tomato water can be a luscious savory liquid. But not here. The dish was bland, the tomato water contributing little flavor to the dish. The basil was so scarce as to be unnoticed. The cheese, although quite tasty, was also apportioned less than generously. Among the entrees, a Whole Trout dish received good comments, but something less than raves. A special Octopus dish, served cold, was enjoyed by one diner. While another pasta dish proved to be a significant improvement from the Campanella. Amatriciana is a pasta sauce native to Rome and its province, Lazio. Having spent much time to Rome, I became very familiar with the pancetta-infused sauce and can attest to the authenticity in the version served at The Covey. It would rank above average among the versions sampled within the seven hills. The group consensus as we came away from the meal was general disappointment given the restaurant's very favorable reviews. Expectations may have been too high, but there was also consensus that the food quality, uneven but good at times, did not justify the elevated prices. No one sampled their ultra-premium dry-aged steaks, a couple of which command prices over $200. It may be in this segment that The Covey justifies its high regard among some diners. But I got little indication of this from their "Bavette" steak, a Hanger steak that was, like many of the other dishes, good but not distinguished. One final nitpick: The Covey requires a credit card to make a reservation. No problem there. But you are told there will be a $50 PER PERSON change if the reservation is cancelled "at the last minute". I inquired as to what constituted "last minute", but no one could give me an answer. In other words, it is discretionary. 1 hour? 3 hours? 6 hours? 24 hours? A definitive time should be provided in fairness to guests making reservations.

So disappointed with The Covey - we have been going there for years - service and attitude was so disappointing that we decided to not stay to have dinner. We made reservations well in advance and showed up on time - only to be put into the 'penalty box' outside because the bar seating we'd asked for was not available. We sat outside for about 15min before someone came out to see if we'd like something to drink while we wait - another 15min passes before the drinks finally did arrive. Have to mention that the glass of wine ($22 for the glass) was a very very small pour - looked like a sample/taste than a glass of wine.! We were finally seated over 40min after our reservation time - to then be sit longer and watch the bartender ignore us! Customer service all around was really poor! We decided to save our evening out, and went to the Pio With no reservations we were seated, excellent service - great food (at the Pio) - and the total bill from the Pio was just $10 more than what our drinks cost at The Covey!! (BTW - Covey will charge your CC $100/person if you are a no-show for reservations!) Time to find a new 'go-to' place in SV!

We went to Covey last night; we're already plotting our next date night and ready to head back for round 2. The ambiance is very cool and thoughtful. It's clear they really thought this place out. Cannot wait until the outdoor area is open in the summer. We tried a bunch of different beers, and dashed that with some amazing Sake. Drinks are 5 star. Time for the food: EPIC. They cook on a big open fire...we sat at the bar (really unique seats that fold out). Watched them make our meal which made the experience a lot of fun. The smell from the fire and the different foods simmering adds to the ambiance. The staff was really friendly, and the owner was right there with everyone...he even gave us a tour at the end. Long story short, you won't be disappointed. I predict big success for this new restaurant in Ketchum. Update: went back again with another couple, even better.

Well, we paid for our drinks and left - went to the Pio - we're seated without a reservation and service was great - sorry Covey, you're no longer on our "must go to" places in SV (BTW - Covey reservations will charge you $100/person if you are a no show!!) Need to find a new go-to place in SV!!

We had a lovely date night dinner at the Covey. Service was delightful and the food was amazing. We enjoyed our favorite sour beer Love Child. I had a delicious pasta and my fiancé loved his waygu ribeye. We would definitely come back on our next visit to Sun Valley.

If "doing their best" to be COVID safe means that NONE of their chiefs (in an open kitchen) wear masks or gloves, then their best was not for us. We walked out after watching one of their chiefs prepare at least 4 different meals, no mask, wipes nose, touches head (no net, hat or anything on there either), and never washed hands or used sanitizer. Confronted manager, all she said was, "we're trying", and "you have to understand it's hot in the kitchen". So if you concerned at all about COVID, I'd go somewhere else as this place does not seem to care.

I loved almost everything I had. The only thing I really didn't like was the duck that I had to send back. However I recommend the pork belly, the focaccia and the pork chop 100%. The wine recommendation that we had was also amazing. Great spot in Ketchum. If I ever visit again I will definitely return here.

Interesting, creative fare. Bring foodies, not people who feel bad about needing to ask questions. They make their own pasta and it's delish! Ambiance is trendy chill. Bathroom is stunning as well!

Honestly the way they expertly handled kids was the best part of this restaurant. As soon as we sat down they brought the kids a set of markers and paper, with the promise that if they made a nice piece of artwork they would hang it near the bar. The kids studiously worked on art for most of the dinner and were rewarded with a prominent display of their hard work. The food was good too, mostly pasta based dishes for us.

We've come to this restaurant a lot over the last year and you can always expect good service and an inviting atmosphere. However, we had dinner there recently and the food was awful. It was as if they were trying too hard with an overly inventive menu. The pastas were too chewy and tasteless. The apps were okay but for the price of the meal, really disappointing. We opined whether the restaurant had changed hands as the menu seemed a bit off from previous menus. Overall, there are better options in Ketchum:, Cookbook, Enoteca and their sister restaurant, Ketchum Grill.

This is my third time coming here. Every time I swear to myself I'm never coming back. The atmosphere and decor is on point but the food is lacking. It's honestly deceiving. The menu is filled with interesting dishes but there is no follow through. We were a party of 8 and not 1 person finished their plates. Recommendation Throw out the menu and hire a new head chef The restaurant does have a cool aesthetic.

This place is better than every other restaurant we tried in Ketchum. Great food and great drinks. Just a clear level above all the other places. We tried almost everything on the menu and it was all fresh and delicious.

Wow, what a disappointment! Appetizers were okay, just. Then came the entrees. Trout served over a bed of tasteless risotto with tasteless roasted tomatoes. Bucatini with duck, amazingly tasteless also. Apparently the chef doesn't use seasoning. And for those prices. Surprised the place is still in business. Truly the worst dinner I've had in ... I can't remember.

As fair of a review as possible. Our last visit, the waitress had a pretty elitist attitude, not particularly friendly and mainly acted like she was doing us a favor. In general the policies here are pretty extreme to get a reservation give you cc card and get charged $100 per person if you don't cancel well in advance. On the flip side I've had my reservation cancelled BY them at the last minute - never heard of such a thing and left us high and dry on a special evening for our family. As for the food, it did not wow but it was not bad - for the price (and the attitude) I'd expect a lot more.

I thoroughly enjoyed my dining experience at The Covey. I recommend making a reservation if you're visiting on the weekend. The food was outstanding. As an appetizer we ordered the roasted cauliflower. It was phenomenal. I ordered the Malloreddua pasta and my friend ordered another pasta dish. Both were excellent. Our waitress was Emily. I asked her for a wine recommendation, she suggested the Bordeaux, and it was on point for my dish. Emily was very friendly and engaging. We ate outside in the backyard and they provided blankets because it was a bit chilly. The atmosphere was cozy and very cute. I can't say enough nice things about this place. It was the perfect Friday night out. Thanks to Emily and the chef.

Beware it's my opinion this is the reason why Restaurants in SV don't stay in business. For example The Convey you make reservations online with a credit card to guarantee and if you cancel 24hrs or less they charge you $100 per person. What's that about. "When" Cornerstone was open early on ...so pretentious.. not willing to accommodate guests.. Enoteca same thing.. the only thing about Enoteca is that they have listened to the complaints and have made adjustments.. which is the reason why they are "still" in business. They should take a look at the Pioneer, Kneadery, La Cabinita, Romina, Vintage, The Sawtooth.. ..these Restaurants are more will to think about their guest first! I'm just saying!

This is an absolutely wonderful restaurant! A jewel in the middle of this little town of Ketchum. The Staff was so warm and friendly, the food delicious and the ambiance warm and delightful. We will be sure to visit every time we come to Ketchum.

Not a good experience. They tried to sit us outside in the sun when every table was unoccupied. We are talking 90 degrees. When we finished our dinner, most tables were still unoccupied! Have not been here in a couple of years, have not changed the menu. No specials either. All in all a terrible experience and will never return!

Much to love at the covey- food is really tasty, with creative recipes and quality ingredients. Smaller portions. It's expensive. With wine, around $75 per person for dinner. Wait staff is competent on food, not so good on wine info. Friendly vibe in attractive space.

We made a reservation after hearing promising reviews, and were surprised we hadn't noticed this place before. The open view of the kitchen is wonderful and the staff was so interactive! I don't think I've ever felt so welcome at a restaurant, especially to note that it was a bit fancier than we usually dine with our three younger kids. Wait staff was attentive, helpful, and seemed to genuinely love food. Each dish was wonderful - a with a different flavor than I imagined when ordering each course, but I wouldn't change a thing!
