The Cheapest Michelin Star Restaurants For Lunch in the UK & Ireland

"There is a considerable amount of textbook culinary craft on display at The Cross. Throughout the menu, the technical skill of the chefs is evident in bold, refined dishes with a strong classical base. The restaurant itself is hugely characterful, with an enclosed terrace ideal for summer and a cosy bar that would make a great place for a pint. There’s a good buzz about the place and the attentive service team look after you well." - The MICHELIN Guide UK Editorial Team

The Cross

"The front bar of this charming 19C, Grade II listed inn makes a cosy place for a beer, while the pretty, foliage-enclosed rear terrace is great for lunch and drinks on a warm day. Sit in the back room to watch the kitchen team in action, or in the bright, airy former classroom with its eye-catching wall lamps shaped like hand bells. Chef Adam Bennett creates bold, classically based dishes which champion local produce and are re-mastered, refined and raised to a level that will really impress. An extensive, well-chosen wine list completes the picture." - Michelin Inspector

I really enjoyed my lunch here. As advertised, my experience was relaxed and refined. A complementary cheese snack and bread were provided. Service is on the slower, more relaxed side, giving you time to savour each bite. Dishes were presented beautifully, flavours were well-varied, and portion sizes were perfect. I will definitely be returning to try out more!

Google
Nice food, really delicious, but I can't give more than three stars for the service when cutlery is simply placed on the table—not on a napkin, not on a tablecloth, just directly on the table. Thank goodness it's not on the floor. Do they wipe the table before placing the cutlery? They brush it with a brush that's been used who knows how many times before?

We were blown away by the food quality. Everything was developed to perfection. The courses are tiny but you won't leave the restaurant hungry. The service was impeccable. The atmosphere relaxed. Very satisfied with the price quality relationship.

We went here as a treat for our Wedding Anniversary, they had a card on our table which was a lovely touch. The staff were friendly and helpful and made you feel welcome. This was our first time at a Mitchell Star restaurant and we were not disappointed, everything was cooked lovely and the care and attention to detail was appreciated. The portions were small but tasty as you would expect with fine dining. Would definitely recommend for a treat, we had the al la Carte menu which consisted of a starter, main and dessert.

Google
This is a really outstanding restaurant. One which I have visited several times. Food and service have both been exceptional on every visit. Even at 2.30pm on a Sunday when they were beginning to clean down the kitchen, food and service were immaculate. Have brought my infant baby along several times and we were always made to feel very comfortable. It's really worth a try, you will not be disappointed. For the experience and quality, I'd say it's good value.

Google
Had a lovely meal here, getting the lunch menu. The starters were lovely, and soup was very nice although maybe a little too rich. The mains were incredible, and the desserts were also great. Service was good but took some time, but the overall experience was great!

The food was of very high quality, we had the à la carte rather than the tasting menu. The crab tart and tuna tataki were both very good as were the amuse-bouche. The Hereford beef was melt in mouth outstanding with incredible jus. The soufflé and pavlova were also recommendable. I didn’t think the service or decor were 1* standard, the part of the restaurant we were in could have been any pub in the country. The service was slow at times, and not particularly engaging. But worth it for the food!

Yelp
Michelin- starred Cross does live's up to its reputation. Sumptuous, creative meals in a warm, inviting atmosphere. I recently brought a group dinner here for work and everyone loved the four course meal and the service was impeccable. My only nit, I thought the sea bass was a little salty.

Yelp
Second time here, this time for lunch while 'passing through' between client visits. I definitely didn't go out of my way to come here. Definitely not. Anyway, The Cross is just stunning on every level. A beautiful gastro pub (this is underselling it actually - it's Michelin level cooking and service) in a beautiful part of the world, serving absolutely world class food prepared meticulously and with absolute care and passion. My lunch consisted of (too much) delicious and freshly baked sourdough with salted butter, winter salad, coquelet (chicken) and an orange soufflé with choc ice cream. The salad was incredibly fresh and tasty. Complex flavours that paired together perfectly. The burrata was creamy and luxurious. The chicken was awesome - crispy skin and succulent meat. The hazelnuts added a next level flavour. And the soufflé was mind blowing - complete with the at the table addition of the sauce which soaked into the softness and created an incredible end to the meal. My cherry bakewell mocktail was ridiculous. So sweet and sugary, and felt like I was literally drinking a blended cake. Love this place and can't recommend highly enough for lunch or dinner!

Yelp
Fantastic dinner! I really enjoyed my dinner experience at this venue. I had vegie soup for starter and pasta for main. They were all fresh and well prepared (see pic). Maybe one of the best dinner I had while staying in UK. Seems the menu has changed since I visited last month, but please be sure to ask for special of the day. They have outdoor seating and also big fire place. Also big dining room for lager group. People working here were sooooo nice, felt so welcomed. I can't go back to this place again.

Yelp
This pub/resturaunt is amazing! Its expensive but the food and service here are second to none. As soon as you walk in you are welcomed by the waiters, and look of the building which has been decorated perfectly. One part of the resturaunt allows you to see slightly into the kitchen which is good to see, nothing to hide here! Then we move onto the food itself. I eat a lot of duck when i go out to places and i can quite easily say that The Cross has come out on top. With an absolutely brilliant meal. Everything ive eaten here is cooked to perfection. If you can afford to go here then you must with out a doubt . It is also essential to book as it gets packed out very quickly. Superb place to eat out in Kenilworth, 5 minute drive form coventry. 10/10 For service and food and location!

Yelp
Had Christmas Day lunch here and will NOT be returning. After an extensive interior makeover there seems to be very little ambience. Staff were young and inexperienced. Chef Adam Bennett seemed to be spending all of his costly time viewing the customers and not his chefs! The starter was good but the main course Fillet of beef which was ordered medium rare but came as medium and barely warm. The vegetables were just as bad. Dessert was a Christmas pudding which managed to pass muster! Having been charged £95 per head (there were three of us) it was unacceptable and told the Maître d that I was only going to pay 50percent, which was duly accepted. Style over substance! Highly unlikely to return!

Yelp
The Cross Restaurant in Kenilworth is a beautiful building offering a great atmosphere, exquisite food and service to match. The wine list features a number of reasonably priced, yet exceptional wines to complement your meal. On our visit, the main building was full so we were seated in the annexe/conservatory. Although this was initially extremely cold, the helpful staff were only too pleased to adjust the temperature for us. The puddings looked delicious but in all honesty I had gorged myself to such an extent that I could only look on as my wife devoured her cheesecake. At least I'll know for next time. An excellent venue highly recommended.

Yelp
The cross is a beautiful restaurant in Kenilworth very near to the Kenilworth Castle. The food here is fantastic, when i visited last we had a table where we could see into the kitchen and see the food being prepared. The quality of the food is excellent and the menue is varied but compact. This is not the cheapest restaurant around but you get what you pay for and the food is well worth the price tag. Staff are polite and helpful. The carpark is rather small though and lots of cars were being blocked in by other drivers as there is very little street parking available around the restaurant. Highly recommended for a romantic/special meal out.

I've eaten here on a few occasions. Food consistently good and service efficient and friendly.

Yelp
We enjoyed The Cross, great atmosphere and decent wine selections. I had the asparagus risotto as a starter and the plaice as my main. I had never had plaice before and it was delicious, I did not care for the side of potatoes that came with it. They were a bit mushy and lacked salt & flavor. We ordered the cheese course which was ok, very large. Also, the macaroons for dessert, the chocolate was ok but the other flavor that came with it was terrible ... It had no taste, like plastic. Would not recommend the macaroons. Would come back again for the ambiance. Servers were friendly, but not very knowledgable, seemed very young. They could have one a better job explaining menu items, for example, when you set down a board with six cheeses, you explain what each is before walking away, unfortunately that didn't happen. We also had to ask for water for the table three times before it was brought to us.

Yelp
Personally all the food I've eaten here has been alright, but others in my party weren't at all happy. Service was really slow though, which can't really be excused. Decor inoffensive.
