The Cubby Bear - Review - Wrigleyville - Chicago - The Infatuation

"The Cubby Bear is the one of the busiest bars in Wrigleyville on game day—largely because it's located directly across the street from the stadium. It consistently attracts a huge crowd before, after, and during games. And even when it’s the off season, it stays pretty upbeat since they regularly have live music from local bands or DJs." - John Ringor

Google
Hit up The Cubby Bear after a Cubs game—vibe was electric, crowd was hyped. Ordered the Buffalo Wings and Garlic Fries; wings were decent, but the fries were a bit soggy. Had a couple of beers, and the tab came out to around $50. Service was friendly but stretched thin—took a while to get our drinks. Great spot for post-game energy, but the food and service could use a little polish.

Google
I love this place!!!! The bf and I walked in to jello shots (sold immediately), there's multiple different areas to grab food and drinks which is so inviting, and the FOOD was amazing. My boyfriend has never been to Wrigleyville before and he had never had a true chicago dog.. when we went to order food I noticed it was on the menu and YES SO MUCH YES. A true chicago dog in the heart of being at a baseball game = top notch. It was PERFECT. Ordered it as is, and I'll just mention that I don't like most of the ingredients in a chicago dog but all together? Mouthgasm!!!! He was in heaven, I was in heaven, the vibes of cubby bear, highly recommend coming here when in wrigleyville!!! And all the sports memorabilia to go along with it tops it all off

Google
Salsa Sundays are absolutely phenomenal. Everyone in the Latin dance scene is incredibly welcoming, kind, and guiding to newcomers. If you're interested in learning a fun, sexy, exhilarating dance, come check out Salsa Sundays at the Cubby Bear!

Google
Stopped in Cubby Bear for a couple beers and some Chicago dogs and it did not disappoint. The service was fast and friendly.

Google
Came here after a Cubs game and had a blast. The atmosphere was electric, packed with fans, live music, and everyone just vibing. Ordered the garlic fries and a classic Angus burger. The fries were crispy and garlicky, and the burger was juicy and satisfying. Drinks were cold, and the bartenders were quick despite the crowd. Spent about $30, and it was worth every penny. If you're in Wrigleyville, this place is a must-visit for good food, drinks, and a great time.

Christina Aiazzone

Google
Self seating bar/restaurant. Service was just okay. Waitress was no where to be found once we got our food so we couldn't get refills of our drinks. Food came out quick and pretty big portions. Garlic fries were good! My only complaint is I ordered a grey goose and water and I definitely didn't get grey goose and tasted like some cheap house vodka instead.

Staff was professional and very attentive. Door guy cool as day! Bar tender made a great call with the cider

Google
The Cubby Bear is a Wrigleyville classic—perfect for pre-game energy or post-game celebration. Great atmosphere, solid bar food, fast service even when it’s packed, and unbeatable location right across from Wrigley Field. Loud, fun, and full of Cubs pride. A must-visit on game day.

Yelp
An iconic Chicago Sports Bar located across from Wrigley Field . We went on a Sunday afternoon to watch our granddaughter perform with the School of Rock Glenbrook along with two other School of Rock show teams. Plenty of seating available and the sound is fantastic but it can get loud at times. Typical bar food and drink are available by scanning their QR code.Parking is a challenge in the area. Established in 1953,the Cubby Bear is a must stop when in Wrigleyville.

Yelp
It was ok.... food was ok... ambiance was ok.... music was ok...everything was just average...It's right across from Wrigley Field so perfect for out of town visitors.... Only thing I did not appreciate was the not-so-friendly staff.... waitress was a blah and not attentive... I am from Los Angeles and on my first trip to Wrigley Field... When I arrived to the bar I was feeling excited...! I wanted to have drinks before the game...but instead of being friendly and pumping us up, the waitress flattened the energy we walked in with... I knew, then, that I did not want to give the bar my business. We just ate our dinner and left! I noticed there was a gal going around handing blue shots of some sort, but she never came to our table to offer... One shot could have ignited an evening of drinking at the bar... Unfortunately, I did not experience the Chicago bar scene before a Cubs game the way I should have...

Yelp
Always a good time here. Love coming here before a cubs game to get some killer food! Get there early it gets filled quick. Or you can after where there's is a good post game show! The live music is always awesome and often. Service is always up to par, have never had an issue which is hard to say! Plus it's a classic, def a must try!

Yelp
The world famous Cubby Bear. It's a bigger-than-it-looks bar, caddy corner from the Wrigley Field marqee, that is the perfect place for Cubs fans to gather before, after and even during a baseball game. It's also the perfect place to gather during an off day or the offseason. The staff said the bar books djs and cover bands for late night and weekend entertainment. This is a high volume place. There's a nice beer selection, which includes local options. There's also a good selection of spirits if you're wanting to ride in the fast lane. It's fun - sometimes too much fun.
google avatar

Yelp
For an out-of-towner this is a heck of a pregame option. Just had drinks, but great atmosphere with the iconic Wrigley sign across the street. Very busy but easy enough to grab a beer and hang with friends.

J C.

Yelp
Gotta stop just because of the name in Wrigleyville! Loved the atmosphere, it feels like a local bar and we did get our drinks at a reasonable time/rate. We had some pretty amazing apps too. We were able to sit along the window which added to the fun because of the tons of fans around

Yelp
I had an overall good experience here at the Cubby Bear. I came to see an emo/pop punk cover band and I had heard certain things about the Cubby Bear so I honestly wasn't expecting much. The venue is a pretty cool set-up - there are two bars that line both sides of the venue (at the time of the show only one bar was open), there are plenty of table and chairs in the middle, and they do leave room in the front for standing closer to live acts. Service was standard for any bar. I will say their choices for non-alcoholic options are pretty much just sodas so that was disappointing. Location is also super convenient as it is right next to Wrigley Field so hoping on the bus or red line is extremely easy. I'd definitely come back for another show.

Yelp
It's iconic. Legendary. One of the Sports Bars. You can't visit Wrigley Field without a pregame at Cubby Bear. We stood at the bar just inside the main entrance. It was busy on a Cards Cubs game day, but plenty of space and we were able to order quickly. The beers were reasonably priced and it was a great fun vibe. Bonus points to the bathroom attendant...I've never seen one so well stocked!

Yelp
We stopped here during our Christmas bar crawl. Fun time, great music, and drinks. We'll definitely be back.

Yelp
I rented the top area for a company outing and I cannot say it enough how great the staff was! The whole day was planned out perfectly and the food was great! The room overlooked the stadium to give the the full Cubs event for my staff that have never been to Wrigley! Thank you to all it was a great experience and a special shout out to Caitlin for her amazing service!!
google avatar

Clara S.

Yelp
Came here to watch the Texas football game so we were taken around the corner to go up to the separate third floor. We didn't realize we had to order at the bar so we were sitting awkwardly waiting for a while. The bar food is standard - I would say the chicken tenders were pretty great quality though. The Mac and cheese bites, mozzarella sticks, and corndog nuggets were nothing special though. They also didn't have champagne weirdly- I was craving a mimosa during this early Saturday football game! Opted for a margarita which wasn't too bad.

Yelp
One of the classic stops along any Wrigleyville bar hop. A diverse drink menu will get you ready for the game, with friendly, knowledgeable staff from the front door to the bartenders. Definitely a destination for the twenty-something crowd that can get a little loud, but that adds to the ambiance.

Mitchell H.

Yelp
You're going to change a cover with 12 people in your bar. Yeah... good decision. Your door staff is obviously poorly trained as we watched 3 underaged walk in the door. But hey, they had your cover...Good job!

Jessica W.

Yelp
Great for pregaming! Fun after the game with the dj and dancing. Beer selection is good and love the Photo Booth

Yelp
Truthfully the only reason I stepped foot in here is because of the Latin Rhythms Salsa Sunday event. Bartender Johanna was super kind and attentive and had an awesome view of the iconic Wrigleyville Cubs stadium outside the window. Not expecting much from their food, decided to order a classic platter. Totally not worth it unless you're starving and need some calories. They did provide a selection of sauces but nothing special. I'm also going to age myself saying this but it was WAAAAY too loud that we ended up leaving early.

Yelp
I was a little hesitant to eat here when I saw a 2.5 star rating on Yelp, but was pleasantly surprised!! The security was very nice and inviting. They were attentive and kindly walked with us to show us where the bathroom was located. Cindy, our waitress was friendly and patient. She checked in on us frequently to make sure we had everything we needed. The food was absolutely FIRE!! We got "The Platter" appetizer and everything was delicious! I also ordered a BYO sandwich and tater tots with chili and cheese. Bomb!! Not to mention the amazing view of Wrigley!! You won't be disappointed!!

Yelp
This is the place you must visit before Cubs game on Wrigley's field. Great atmosphere

Yelp
Visited here for Saint Patrick's day with a wrist band. Nothing unique! Just another sports bar. $6 light beer "deals". Floor was fairly wet with drinks that were spilled.

Yelp
Absolutely terrible bouncers here. Went with a group of friends to see a band I've seen a few times before. Immediately the bouncers had an attitude at the door barely addressing our group as we walked in. Our friend who came in later had overheard the bouncers making negative remarks about our group after we had just paid to get in. Tried to go up to the photo booth with a few friends and when the employees saw us up there they immediately told us to leave the booth and slammed the door shut to that floor. Bar service was great no negative reviews for the bartenders themselves. A little while after the band had been playing my friend decided she needed to step out for some fresh air and make a phone call. She showed the bouncers her stamp and said she would be back shortly to which they responded "don't bother coming back." Needless to say we did not bother. Genuinely don't know how this place has such poor staff yet is directly across from Wrigley field itself. Cubby bear owners please address your bouncers!

Yelp
Decent bar right near Wrigley for a drink, live music and Cubs games. They even take reservations. Great place to meet up prior to a Cubs game.

Lindsey R.

Yelp
I went to see a show at the Cubby Bear tonight. Apparently, they decided the DJ would draw in a bigger crowd and canceled the show for all 4 bands slotted to play. No notice ahead of time. The musicians had to just pack up all their instruments and go. Myself and countless individuals traveled out of our way to be there for this show. I guess our time means nothing to the venue. This was disappointing for us, but straight up disrespectful to the musicians for their time and effort. Worst of all is the DJ sat on his phone and played music from 2010 all night. This was prioritized over live music and real talent. Pitiful, embarrassing, and shameful.
google avatar

Kendall C.

Yelp
Oh Cubby Bear...the iconic Chicago staple! Rather you're going to a Chicago Cubs game or a concert Cubby Bear is the spot to be! No doubt the most known Chicago sports bar in Wrigleyville. This bar always has it going on. They normally have live music and DJ's. Extremely fast and efficient bartenders! Top notch security and electric energy. In between all the drinks make sure to sober up and try their food! Our food came out extremely fast. Not kidding- the Buffalo wings are amazing! The chicken nachos are also a good choice. The atmosphere of Cubby Bear is a whole vibe- you have to check it out yourself!
google avatar

Amanda W.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I had a Groupon for here that I wanted to use for the season but Covid ruined our plans. Luckily they did carry out which was amazing! We got to pick up curbside. We got the appetizer of Cubby Bear Nachos (I wanted pork but they didn't have any left)- still amazing!!! And very filling. We each got a burger- mine the cubby bear burger with bacon and peppers. Very cheesy! loved it! He got a cubby blue burger. I didn't try it but he enjoyed it. We even had leftovers!! A lot of food for $30. Looking forward to return to see the Cubs play once again!
google avatar

Kristie K.

Yelp
Ahhhh....the Cubby Bear. This is an iconic and crazy fun dive bar to visit, whether a Cubs game or a live concert is your reason. The place is always loud, always crowded, and every inch of the floor is sticky from sloshed drinks. The restrooms aren't super awesome, and there have been many time where they have a restroom attendant working inside, expecting tips. So know before you go. They have a traditional bar food menu, which means pizza, fries, brats, and tots. The food isn't bad, and it's defintely cheaper than paying the jacked-up prices inside Wrigley Field, which is catty-corner across the street. So keep that in mind as you plan your day. The serving staff is typically pretty friendly as they work to get everyone served the drinks they are ordering. Tip your servers, because they work hard here on a busy night!
google avatar

Sandra S.

Yelp
If you are going to catch a baseball game at Wrigley Field, you must stop in and have a drink or two at the Cubby Bear! There are 3 separate bars to order from even on a packed game day you have no problem getting served. The bartender we met was not only friendly he bought us a shot of our choice. We were so shocked that we ended up buying a round of drinks for everyone at the bar area. Such a great day and wonderful experience.
google avatar

Taylor L.

Yelp
The Cubby Bear is a staple for going to Wrigley Field! We went right before a game and the energy is awesome in this venue. The place is packed and everyone is excited for the game. We got a table right on the window facing Wrigley and the staff was swamped. They took a minute getting to us but once they did the service was quick, the food was quick as well and the staff was super friendly. My turkey wrap was pretty good! The food is nothing new and exciting but it is good. The venue really is made by the location and atmosphere. All the memorabilia and the TVs all over the walls make this a sports bar and everyone decked out in all their gear make it home. If you're going to Wrigley this is a must see!

Adriana M.

Yelp
Security was extremely rude, ESPECIALLY these two! My sister was outside the door looking for my cousin and the man with the white beard started disrespecting my sister and calling her out of her name so she can get inside. It wasn't like he had to tell her multiple times or anything, he just went straight into anger. Will never go back !
google avatar

Joseph B.

Yelp
Badass! A Wrigleyville must!!! It's a dive but a blast on Cubs game day!!! Come in, grab a beer or several and some food!!!
google avatar

Tessie E.

Yelp
I decided to build my own burger. I added tomato, lettuce, pickles, and pepper Jack cheese. They only have pepper Jack and cheddar. The burger was good. The fries were the best part of the meal. They were crispy just how I like them. While I enjoyed water, the ladies I came with got beverages. Please note they do not have drinks on the menu but you can tell your waiter what you want (ex. Margarita), and ours was able to get it done. My group said they really enjoyed their drinks.
google avatar

Mike H.

Yelp
The Cubby Bear is in the heart of Wrigleyville and right across the street from the stadium. I was expecting a sports bar but it's definitely more of a concert venue/bar. There's a stage, a bar then the rest of the bar is wide open for concert viewing and dancing. On the days of Cubs games, it just gets jammed packed with jersey wearing baseball fans looking for a few beers before the game. I was one of those jersey wearing baseball fans just looking to drink a few beers. We were packed in like sardines with no room to move and with so many people it was hard to hear my friends talk. The beer was expensive and small plus it tasted bad. I got a Goose Island 312 that tasted more like Bud Light and my buddy got an actual Bud Light. They were two different colors so I know I didn't accidentally get a Bud Light. I just question how often they clean their lines. Anyway, I didn't like the vibe at all but maybe it's better for music

Lindsey S.

Yelp
The bartenders were extremely rude. Attended for an event and tipped for outrageously priced drinks ($11/shot?!) and were treated with nothing but attitude and contempt. Having lived in this area, busy nights are not unusual (the line often extends past the front door) but the drinks and food are OUTRAGEOUSLY overpriced and drinks are watered down. Bartenders are rude and disrespectful towards guests' conversations even away from the bar. Would not ever come here again- the staff is so rude and the prices are so extreme that a night at home with 7/11 liquor seems like luxury. Will never return.
google avatar

Kristine P.

Yelp
We heard this place was an institution, and since my husband is a die hard Cubs fan, we went to check it out before a game two weeks ago. We were there early, so we had no line. It did fill up quickly though! Bartender was friendly, drinks were fine, food was tasty, but I am extremely concerned with the amount of negative reviews mentioned on here due to racism from the bouncers and/or staff members. I will have a hard time going back there after reading some of these reviews--hard to support a place that continues to have these comments made about them. There are plenty of other bars in Wrigleyville, so I think I might have to frequent somewhere else.
google avatar

Craig L.

Yelp
Maybe it's just a school girl type crush but this was the first bar I visited years ago at my first Cubs game. This is a Chicago must see and do. Even if Cubs are on the road. It's a bar that thrives because of the neighborhood and a fun time. Always packed before during and after Cubs games. Live music early and often. I've eaten here several times and I think it was good. This place is more of the experience. Before any Cubs game....a bar crawl and one last beer here before you walk in. Buy a shirt. Be a tourist. Have fun. I love this bar and the first feeling I had walking in my first time. Very nostalgic. Very Chicago. Very Cubs.

Yelp
Free Live Show. Up close and personal with Performers. $7 tap Cider. No Entrance. Friendly Staff. Free Ear Plugs! Say HELLO to the Scorpio big guy bouncer, LeRoy!

Jason B.

Yelp
My wife and I attended the q101 halloween bash last night. Now to give you some background, my wife and I have welcomed our first baby into the world about a month ago, this was one of our first nights out without the baby. My wife did not have any drinks last night at the event but had fainted about halfway through the show. I'm not sure why, but the first thing security did was kick us outside. I'm more so just looking for an explanation why we were treated the way we were?
google avatar

Laurene T.

Yelp
It's a game day bar DIRECTLY across from the entrance to Wrigley Field, y'all. It's going to be crowded. It's going to be loud. The bouncers/door guys don't want to make small chat and they don't care if you think you're too old to be ID'd, they are doing their job. Is the floor sticky? Yep. Are the bathrooms great? Nope. But it's iconic, and it's a take it or leave it place, like any bar near a busy baseball stadium. I have been to many like it in many other cities, and the Cubby Bear is probably one of my more favorite. It has character, it has a great patio which nobody bothered to use, so even though everyone inside was a sardine, we had a huge yard to spread out in and enjoy the beautiful day. We got our drinks, and cashed out each time so there were no issues there. The staff was busy and a little frantic, but they were great, they were friendly, and kept everyone in order. It cleared out really quick at the start of the game, and looked like a whole different bar. My husband and his friends went in college almost 20 years ago, so it was fun for them to go back and say "remember that time...". It was a fun experience, and I felt like it tied our whole game day experience together!
google avatar

Frank B.

Yelp
It is what it is. Right across from Wrigley Field. Cub fans come here for mental programming, a brat and beer. This Hole has a large space. Live music. Stages. Salsa night. All kinds of fun.
google avatar

Brian D.

Yelp
This is a must stop by place if you're going to the cubs game. They offer a wide variety of beers on draft. I ordered 2 shots of Hennessy, and 2 Boston lagers for $36 of which the shots were $9 each. But then 20 min later, I ordered more shots of Hennessy and the bartender charged me $11 each..
google avatar

Hannah D.

Yelp
The Cubby Bear is probably one of the most iconic bars in Wrigleyville. I happen to go by when it wasn't very busy at all and it was pretty "meh." I had a fine time, but I can see where some of the other comments are coming. It's sort of a bummer that the atmosphere is so dependent on the Cubs schedule. That said, the bartender was super nice, but the drinks were just a-okay and the food was definitely mediocre. I had the burger which was fine but nothing spectacular. Because this place is such an institution, honestly, I'll probably find my way back next time I'm in Chicago. I just wish that it was a bit more comfortable to hangout in.

Person P.

Yelp
F this place. One of the few bars in chicago that sells old style for 9 dollars. There are tables in the middle of the stage area.
google avatar

Caitie M.

Yelp
Great pub right outside of Wrigley field! We stopped in for beers on our way to a Cubs game. Tall boys of Budlight or Millerlite were $8. We ended up eating Chicago hot dogs that were great, came with tots or fries and were under $10. This saved us from overspending on food in the stadium.

Yelp
The Cubby Bear is interesting. I have been before a Cubs game years ago and now I have been before a large concert at Wrigley, Dead and Company in June of 2019. CB is obviously in a great location, you can look out the window and see Wrigley. But, it is ALWAYS packed, always noisy and I've not seen it very clean. The restrooms in particular are not great. Despite all of that, they do a good job of getting hundreds of people hundreds of drinks in a fairly reasonable amount of time. When I last went they had everything cleared out, it was just a large room with TVs on the wall, the big bar, and a couple of iced canned beer stations throughout. Even with the crowd being so massive the wait at the bar was never more than 3 people. I see some Yelpers were charged a cover. We were not, so if I had been I probably would drop this rating down a star. As it stands, the hardworking employees make up for what otherwise is a below average bar experience. That said, it's the Cubby Bear. You gotta go if you're going to an event at Wrigley, pretty sure it's a city ordinance.

Yelp
On the bucket list for my Chicago stay was a visit to Wrigley Field. I hadn't been to Wrigleyville since I was a little kid and my dad would take me to see the Cubs play. Since the Cubs weren't playing, I decided upon some Saturday afternoon day drinking at The Cubby Bear. As you can imagine, it wasn't very crowded. Me and my buddy decided to sit at the bar facing out towards the iconic Wrigley Field sign. We were warmly greeted by our bartender, Lacey. It is great to write a review where you can say that one person's personality and attentiveness made a noticeable contribution. Lacey would be that person on my visit. Even though she probably gets asked a zillion questions about the whole "being across from Wrigley" experience, she gladly shared her stories, including when the Cubs won the Series in '16. On a hot July afternoon, she kept the icy cold draft Blue Moons coming. Additionally, being in Chicago, I had to have an Old Style, which was 16 oz. for $5. Later, I was talking with another bar patron about one of the craft beers CB had on tap. Lacey overheard the conversation, and attentively provided me a sample! Even though Wrigleyville has become so corporate in its bars and restaurants, I felt CB was more like a neighborhood bar. They had classic rock playing at just the right volume for conversation. The whole place was clean and spacious. I didn't eat while there, and I can't vouch for how it must be on a game day, but I found CB to better than the other bars immediately adjacent to Wrigley Field.

Yelp
Walked in after being carded told there was a 10$ cover, i asked if they had an ATM or if i could put the cover on a tab and was told no to both. I ask what i was supposed to do and was told there is a chase bank near by. This place is awful. Food is mediocre at best. I was ask how i would like my burger cooked, just to get a dry well done patty when i ask for mid rare. They have 8 security guards for less than 100 people. They make their 3 bartenders wait tables and leave the bar unattended while security stands there on their phone mocking you. And at 10:19 on a Saturday night they closed one of the bars, to make you cash out your tab not even halfway thru the bands set. Then at 11:30, 1 and a half hour before they are supposed to close, security say you have to leave. When questioned about it i was met with hostility and an excuse of "there is no cubs game tonight so we are closing early." What a way to run a business!!! Ill be surprised if this joke of a bar and venue lasts another summer with staff like that, security who could care less about the customer, and a neighbor with a legitimate Property line dispute. I hope someone takes over this shit venue and makes it a properly ran business. "You ain't got to do all that" i was told for questioning why security said i had to leave right i I purchased a drink with no last call. They just closed an hour early with no warning, no last call, nothing. What a joke coasting on the cubs and running a business like the want to be closed come fall. What a joke!!!

Yelp
When we walked in for lunch in the afternoon prior to an evening game, we were the only customers in the place. Kind of surprised me. But we were early for lunch and soon others arrived. The servers are great and very helpful with the menu. The food was tasty and they piled on the waffle fries. Could not eat it all. A must stop for Cubs fans.

Yelp
Wow...An interesting mix of people. Walks of all life. A fun mix of music but really not a sports bar. It takes a long time to get a drink, the bartender our group dealt with was very rude and overcharged us. I tried to explain to her what we actually ordered and what we received but she was being really rude. Eventually, she fixed the order but with an attitude all day. Overall not a fan and I think the next time I'm in town I"ll go to another bar instead.

Yelp
So, I didn't even make it in the door before the extremely rude bouncer, yelled at us "need your ID or you can't come in" I didn't have my ID because I can't take my purse into the game, by the way I'm 62 years old! For the record all we asked was if they were even open because there was not a single person in the bar, on a game day no less. No wonder they don't have customers.
