The Best Restaurants, Wineries, and Wildlife in Adelaide, Australia | Eater

"A multicourse lunch destination with vineyard views offering a seasonal menu — think kangaroo with wattleseed, prawns in bisque, blow-torched salmon, and smoked pork hock — backed by an expansive drink list of local wines, beer, cider, and cocktails; be sure to try the McLaren Vale grenache and the Parawa pinot noir, and follow the path afterward to the on-property Shottesbrooke Wines cellar door for a sparkling shiraz." - Amanda Smith

What a gorgeous place! Food was exquisite, service warm and attentive with beautiful settings. We got their 3 course meals and they even have fantastic kid set for our girls. We appreciated the wine recommendation (the chardonnay was one of the best I've had during this trip). I can't recommend this place enough

We visited The Currant Shed in McLaren Vale for a long lunch, and it was an absolute standout. The setting is peaceful and beautifully rustic, surrounded by vineyards and citrus trees. Service was warm, thoughtful, and relaxed—just what you want in wine country. We enjoyed a few glasses of local Chardonnay, which paired perfectly with the laid-back atmosphere. It’s a great spot for couples or families, with a welcoming vibe that makes you want to linger. One of our favorite stops in the region.

A truly delightful dining experience. Wayne and his staff have put together an outstanding seasonal menu. I had the asian inspired slow cooked pork belly and a fabulous roast lamb main course. A complimentary amuse bouche was a surprise start; befitting a restaurant of this calibre. An absolute must if you are in the McLaren Vale area and want an extra special dining experience. Open 5 days, Wednesday to Sunday, for lunches. Bookings essential. P.S. They also do a great takeaway charcuterie pack for 2, see photo !

We had a fabulous alfresco lunch on the veranda here. Service was friendly but attentive, food was interesting and delicious, matched wines were perfect and the atmosphere was sublime! Or best lunch in McLaren Vale!

Casual, elegant dining with an outdoor feel. The warm bread rolls, appetisers and palate cleansers were a delicious and unexpected addition. The smoked kingfish entree and the pork were a little understated, while the Moroccan lamb was a standout. Desserts were greatly liked.

Love, love, love the Currant Shed. This visit was with 25 staff on a Xmas outing and they loved the experience. The private space & lawn area are great for groups. Cater so well for vegetarian and other dietaries and the drinks selection is great. Thank you Michael & the team.

One of my most favourite places to dine in McLaren Vale! The atmosphere serene with a view of orchards and vineyards - with exceptional food and wine on offer. It’s an experience.

Google
Really good experience. Service was friendly and professional and the food was delicious. Had the right mix where it wasn’t stuffy but also felt up-market. Same with the venue. Our group of 8 was attended to really well and the courses came out in a way where we weren’t rushed or being overloaded. I’ve only ever heard good things about the restaurant and can now confirm and agree. Will definitely be back.

Yelp
This place has been on my watch list for ages- seriously it is worth visiting. It has been renovated in recent months and the new fit out is stunning- everything has been thought about with such care from the tables to the mugs made by a local potter. If you catch it in the warmer months be sure to sit under the pergola looking out onto the vineyards, lime groves and herb and veggie garden- it will take your breath away. My partner and I indulged in the autumn tasting menu and we were not disappointed. If we weren't working that afternoon we would have opted for the pairing with wine option- their wine list is equally as good as the food menu. Our favourite dishes were the lemon tart with torched meringue, the pumpernickel, beetroot, malt and goats curd and the sliced South Australian Kangaroo in native pepper with a blackberry reduction and hazelnut. Honestly though, out of 8 courses we did not dislike one thing. It's been a long time since we have enjoyed a meal and service so thoroughly at a restaurant so we will be back! It is a little on the pricer side but with the quality of the food and service it's worth every cent!

Yelp
Wow - this is another destination eatery in Mclaren Vale. I feel a little like I'm giving a secret away, as although this is a popular restaurant the value/ service / location / deliciouosness do not have the same reputation amongst my Adelaide circles as they deserve. To my knowledge I am the first of my friends to visit, and boy am I glad I did! The restaurant is located - as the name indicates in an old drying shed, surrounded by a tahitian lime orchard. The table settings and chairs are relaxed and comfortable with just the right amount of finish - they really make you want to settle in for the afternoon which is what I suggest you do. The food is local produce of a superior standard and the dishes are imaginative and fresh, providing excellent value. Entrees range between $15 and $18, mains $28 to $35 and desserts are $15. I would suggest you tackle all 3 courses, but unless you are a really big eater you may just explode, so probably safer to plan on 2! They're only open for lunches, so chuck a sickie, or plan a sunday drive and I'll see you there!

Yelp
What a hidden gem this place is. The only reason I wont give it five stars is because they aren't open for dinner. So many times I've been trying to think of somewhere for dinner. "Oh, The Currant Shed would be perfect if they were bloody open!" Anyway, on with the review. This place is seriously good. It's one of those places where you don't mind paying $15 for an entree, or $35 for a main, because you know the food is going to be of a standard that reflects the price. I had the duck, which was cooked perfectly, just the right amount of pink, and a creme brulee with lavender infused in the custard. Soooo nice. This is definitely a place to keep in mind if you have a special occasion and can swing the day off work.

Yelp
This is a superb restaurant tucked away in the spectacular McLaren Vale wine region. We had the 3 course degustation meal, with lots of special delicacies in between. Located under a groovy barn/shed, surrounded by lime trees and lush vineyards. Just loved it, so don't just visit the wineries, make sure this is a must see during your visit.

Yelp
Lovely setting and great staff. It is quiet expensive for casual lunch however in saying that the menu is very interesting and the food delicious, loved the little extras. Treat yourselves you wont be disappointed.
