New San Diego Restaurants to Try Right Now | Eater San Diego

"Reopened from Zen Curry as the Curry Club, the Kearny Mesa spot centers on a house curry sauce made from a blend of more than 18 spices that takes 48 hours to make; the menu features various curry rice plates anchored by items like spam katsu, chicken karaage, and potato croquettes, with add-ons such as cheese, egg, and fried shrimp, plus snacks and starters like garlic naan, seaweed salad, and fried oysters." - Candice Woo

Pretty solid curry experience, with lots of options. There are different spices at the table to try with your curry, which my husband and I enjoyed a lot since we could try the different options and season it to taste. When we went it was pretty quiet, so with the restaurant being so cute it was a really nice dinner.

A chicken katsu curry is really tasty. If you want some spicy, you can put some wiri wiri pepper 🌶.

We both got the Chicken Katsu curry. I added the potato croquette and my wife added the mixed vegetables which included carrots, potatoes, and broccoli. It was amazing and so delicious!! I would highly recommend.

The curry was pretty good, flavorful and satisfying. I just wish it had some veggies like potatoes, carrots, or onions to round it out. Still a solid option for a quick and easy meal!

great experience! food and service were both incredible! not to mention the interior and decor are super cute tonkatsu curry ($15.75): 5/5 honestly probably the best curry i’ve ever had! normally when i go to restaurants it just tastes like the boxed curry but this was on another level! added a pumpkin croquette to our order and they had accidentally given us a crab croquette instead (it looks pretty similar from the outside). we let them know and they were really nice about it and got us the pumpkin croquette and also offered a dessert or drink on the house. we took them up on the offer and tried the miso caramel ice cream (usually $4). personally i wouldn’t recommend this item as the ice cream was icy and the caramel was way too salty (but it was free for us so i can’t complain). overall, i recommend! we’ll be back!

Joined the wait-list online as we drove to the restaurant. Got the takoyaki, fried oysters, and tonkatsu curry. The takoyaki was my favorite. The fried oysters were good if you like fried oysters; I typically eat mine raw, so this wasn't my preference. And the tonkatsu curry was just ok - I don't think I like their curry base and the tonkatsu was dry. Service was slow and a bit scarce even though the place wasn't packed.

We had Zen Curry in the past and wasn’t a fan but decided to give The Curry Club a try, knowing that it’s a rebranding of Zen Curry. The old signs are down and the new one is yet to be put up. Brisket curry was something they didn’t have last time but we got spam curry and chicken katsu curry with garlic chips. We didn’t find the curry special. Tasted like The Golden Curry sauce mix that you get at the store plus spicing it yourself based on the 3 spice jars on the table was not why I wanted to eat out. I’d rather have a spice level from the kitchen than the option of spicing it more myself. We also ordered Takoyaki which had too much batter and tasted doughy with few bits of octopus. Chicken karaage was juicy but the dipping sauce could have been a special house sauce than just Kewpie mayo. Parking in this plaza was plenty but scarce because of other eateries during peak times.

We were so excited to hear Zen Curry re-opened as Curry Club, it was one of our favorite places to eat. Came here for the soft opening, about 20 mins before they opened. Seats filled fast and people that came after had long wait times. Keep that in mind! Happy to say that Curry Club is as great as it was in its previous iteration! Food looked and tasted amazing, had so many options for add-ons that it was hard to pick! Pictures included are the Chicken Katsu (plus egg, spam and cheese), the Loco Moco and the Melon Cream Soda. Would highly recommend all! Service was amazing! Always stopping by to pour more water or see how we were doing despite having full tables! Willing to share their recommendations and tell us they even had merch. Keep up the great work Sarah and Mia! You guys rocked!
