Google
Curry: 4.5/5 This curry is very good. It is slightly sweet, savory, and has a depth to it. That being said, it stays within the parameters of a typical Japanese curry. The only thing that docked it from being perfect was that the texture was not perfectly smooth. There is this sort of floury grain to it that I associate with store-bought curries that took me slightly aback. I also sort of miss the flavor of having spiciness cooked in the sauce rather than just putting a powder on top. Oh, and more pickles! Karaage: 4.5/5 The Curry Club does a phenomenal job at frying. The chicken was moist and crispy. I normally do not like karaage with my curry because it has that sort of karaage taste (ginger, soy, etc.) but this was recommended by my waitress and it was awesome. Fried Shrimp: 4/5 Again, great fried shrimp, almost no notes. It DOES have that slight mushy texture right between the coating and shrimp that I really detest, but I have accepted that is just part of the experience at this point. Solid choice if you want seafood. Ajitama: 5/5 This egg was shockingly good. It puts most of the ramen shops in San Diego to shame. Well marinated, perfectly gooey, a great balance between sweet and salty, the literal perfect egg. I’m not sure if it matched the curry, but I would just eat it as dessert to be honest. Ambiance: The restaurant is casual but nice. I don’t see why you couldn’t make this a more special restaurant date. Service: Service was very fast and kind. They “served” just the perfect amount. Parking: The parking lot is a vast lot. Very easy, no pain.

Google
For the price and the small quantity… I’d prefer a different curry spot! I ordered the most spicy and barely felt the spice level I expected or wanted. Ordered the curry moco and was mediocre. Also ordered the chicken katsu and again the qua tutu was smaller that most other spots!

Weon L.

Google
A chicken katsu curry is really tasty. If you want some spicy, you can put some wiri wiri pepper 🌶.

Ashley L.

Google
Pretty solid curry experience, with lots of options. There are different spices at the table to try with your curry, which my husband and I enjoyed a lot since we could try the different options and season it to taste. When we went it was pretty quiet, so with the restaurant being so cute it was a really nice dinner.

Google
Portions are kind of small but it’s the best Japanese curry I’ve had in my life (never been to Japan unfortunately). Can get crowded so you might have to do a to-go order. ~$17 for an order after tax

Google
We both got the Chicken Katsu curry. I added the potato croquette and my wife added the mixed vegetables which included carrots, potatoes, and broccoli. It was amazing and so delicious!! I would highly recommend.

Ingrid C.

Google
The curry was pretty good, flavorful and satisfying. I just wish it had some veggies like potatoes, carrots, or onions to round it out. Still a solid option for a quick and easy meal!

Google
great experience! food and service were both incredible! not to mention the interior and decor are super cute tonkatsu curry ($15.75): 5/5 honestly probably the best curry i’ve ever had! normally when i go to restaurants it just tastes like the boxed curry but this was on another level! added a pumpkin croquette to our order and they had accidentally given us a crab croquette instead (it looks pretty similar from the outside). we let them know and they were really nice about it and got us the pumpkin croquette and also offered a dessert or drink on the house. we took them up on the offer and tried the miso caramel ice cream (usually $4). personally i wouldn’t recommend this item as the ice cream was icy and the caramel was way too salty (but it was free for us so i can’t complain). overall, i recommend! we’ll be back!

Yelp
Finally got to try this place out! We've always been trying to go, but we end up here on the days it's closed ;-; This was our post wedding meal and it was great! He got the karaage curry. I got the potato croquette curry w/ garlic chips and a melon cream soda. I enjoyed the portion size as it wasn't too much or too little. I like the consistent of the curry as well as it isn't thin. Their different spices they have (not listed) at the table were cool. I only kept it at the lowest one but added flavor to the dish. The melon soda was lovely and I couldn't stop drinking it. Ambiance: I enjoyed the decor and the vibes of the whole place. It was cozy in a way. Parking: plenty of parking in the lot it is in Staff: very attentive and helpful with questions if needed! Will be coming back (´ `)

Yelp
If you're craving curry, this is the place to go for something that is sit down and quick. The curry itself is not complex with many layers of flavor, but it is solid and does not disappoint. I much prefer this place for a quick bite to eat to satisfy my craving over other places in San Diego so far. Service is nice, some are more attentive than others. They have a couple tvs playing music and other stuff, and wall decorations. No frills and good food. Cannot disappoint.

Yelp
This is a great spot in town for Japanese curry. My go to is the chicken karaage curry and it is great every time. The service is always nice and friendly. Definitely check this place out if you're in the area!
google avatar

Megan C.

Yelp
I'm always on the lookout for Japanese curry places because I crave it often, so was excited to try this place out! This place replaced what used to be Zen curry- the inside is pretty much the same, small space but a good amount of chairs and tables. I'm not sure if I would recommend a large group greater than 8 people since it is a small space. We came on a Wednesday night and we got seated right away. I ordered the tonkatsu curry with sausage and it was really yummy! Very comparable to Coco if that's what you are looking for. Meat is cooked really well, tender and breaded nicely. The sauce is good too- you can't ask for spice level like at Coco, but they have spices for you to add onto it at the table. My only complaint is I feel the portion is a bit small/could be bigger for the price. Service was also excellent, they are very friendly here and fast. I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
PARKING: Plenty of parking at this plaza! Plenty of space even if you might have to park a bit far. SEATING: It's a bit small in there and I want to say about 6 to 8 tables at most. You do hear other people's conversations two tables over but it's not cramped. It does get crowded quick though! SERVICE: All the servers are extremely nice and knowledgeable! They came by the table enough times to refill waters and ask if everything was okay. Definitely felt welcome. FOOD: The Melon Soda float was good! It was pretty standard. Got their Pork Katsu curry with a side of mozzarella cheese, a potato croqette and a melon soda. For an appetizer I got the cauliflower "karraage." The cauliflower was so good! It defied my expectations of fried cauliflower especially with the spice powders on the table. I think what I like about this place is that you can adjust your spice level the way you like. There's powders on the table that you can choose to do with to your liking. I really liked the flavor of the curry here but the katsu came a bit soggy which made me a bit sad. I also might be biased but I really loved the curry place here before (Zen Curry House) so I had high expectations from the get go. OVERALL: I had a great experience here but it fell just a little short. I enjoyed it regardless but wouldn't go out of my way to come back unless I was in the area.

Yelp
Cute Japanese curry place, has this old 70-80s feel yet modern. Their spicy powder is so good. We got the pork katsu curry and the unagi bowl.. unagi bowl was good but lacked something... it was just too plain for the price. Other than that, def try it out
google avatar

Jonaline A.

Yelp
Love the curry club! The only thing I wish we could do is adjust the spice level, but I think that's why they have the seasonings at the table. The portion size is perfect for a meal and the overall vibe of the restaurant is so homey. It's a great spot to grab a bite with some friends and catch up while you're at it.

Yelp
Finally got to try this spot out and it was pretty good. The restaurant is very aesthetic with the lanterns and decorations and has a cozy and casual ambience. The servers were friendly and helpful as well. I tried their oyakodon which was very light and not dry at all, which is what i was looking for. I also got to try their curry sauce, which was pretty good but not something that I would come back for. I like this place for the ambience and aesthetics and might come back to try their weekday happy hour special if I'm in the area again

Yelp
Our favorite curry place! The perfect blend of curry sauce and our favorite meat. The balance of flavors is always on point. Service is always fast and great. Our servers are friendly and responsive. There's always line outside during peak hours because the place is small. We always go there on off peak hours.
google avatar

Yelp
This replaced the OG Zen Curry, but honestly it's pretty much the same. I came here with my wife on a Wednesday night and we got seated right away. The servers were very attentive and helpful. I ordered the karaage curry with Kurobata sausage, tofu katsu, and creamy crab croquette. My wife got the unagidon. Everything tasted like how it did before. I prefer this spot over the local CoCo Ichibanya, so I'lll be coming back. Minus points for the bathroom. It was clean, but it smelled like the sewage line was exposed (worse than if someone just us. Also, the trash can lid/pedal opener didn't work.
google avatar

Yelp
"A club I'd sign up for" Tried this place for lunch and got the tonkatsu curry. The cutlet was fried crispy and the meat was tender. The curry also had a good amount of flavor and depth. One thing I noticed was the sauce was a but tangier than what I'm used to with japanese brown curry. I tried a bit of the karaage as well and that was perfectly fried too. I also like that they had a selection of spices with varying levels of heat you could add to your dishes. It's a decent lunch spot and hits the spot when you're in that japanese curry mood.
google avatar

Alice C.

Yelp
One of our fave places to get Japanese curry, however, be ready to wait. It seems like they serve in batches so if you miss the window, it'll easily be 40+ mins before you get a seat.

Yelp
The Curry Club is a "newer" curry spot located on Convoy. This place was originally "Zen Curry", but was just rebanded with new ownership. The curry didn't seem to change at all from the change of ownership, and I'm still disappointed in the katsu like before. Honestly, the curry wasn't bad (not too different from a good curry cube but seems richer). However, the portioning was abominable and the katsu quality was terrible. The fry on the katsu was not great as the meat itself didn't retain its juiciness and the breading quality was not high. The portions for $17 are criminal. Only a piece of tonkatsu with a ton of curry and rice. This meal should be $12 for what it is and the quality. I would rather go to EE Nami for better quality katsu and for a higher price. The service was not bad but the service was slow and we were served food without utensils at first. I wouldn't put it on them for a small mistake though. Ambiance was good and spacious. I wouldn't recommend this place considering the price and food quality and quantity.
google avatar

Caitlin N.

Yelp
i was excited to hear this location re-opened after Zen Curry being closed for so long. I will say the curry base is still super good but I was a bit disappointed we couldn't modify the spice level as before. They still have spice shakers to the side which you can add at your own preferences which helps. The service was super good and we were seated relatively fast for a Friday evening.
google avatar

Katherine T.

Yelp
The staff is friendly and attentive, making a welcoming atmosphere. The curry is packed with flavor and is complemented by a generous portion of rice. Additionally, the pickled vegetables are a nice tangy and sweet contrast. Overall, the ambiance is cozy and casual.
google avatar

Yelp
I recently dined at The Curry Club and was blown away by their karaage chicken curry --crisp, juicy, and perfectly seasoned curry. Also the garlic nann bread hit the spot for the appetizer which was matched by stellar service; the staff were attentive and friendly, Food came out fast and hot, making for a top-notch experience. Can't wait to go back!
google avatar

Helen D.

Yelp
Very cozy vibe in here and not too overpacked with tables which feels really nice. Wait can be a little while especially since there arent too many tables but food comes out pretty quick and it doesn't seem like a place that many people would sit around for too long. Takoyaki was honestly so delicious however I wish the outer part was more firm with a crisp because it was very soft and was quite mushy but flavor was amazing. Unagi bowl - classic flavors of eel sauce with a big ol slab of eel which was great. It was tasty however it can get overwhelming by the end since it is a sweeter dish. Its perfect to share but might be too much to eat this on its own. Curry - honestly least fav dish here. I personally dont like coconut flavored things in general and the curry had a slight coconut flavor to it, which made it slightly off. It did not give me the classic Japanese curry taste to me that I was looking for. And the chicken katsu was slightly dry, especially with it being breast meat.
google avatar

Sandra Y.

Yelp
The interior is very cute and Japanese. They had anime playing on the tv haha. The katsu curry was pretty standard but nothing spectacular. I didn't realize you need to order vegetable to have vegetables in your curry otherwise you just get plain curry. So I would recommend ordering "toppings" unless you want completely plain curry.
google avatar

Han L.

Yelp
Pretty decent experience. Their curry is not that deep but it is good. Chicken karage was good.
google avatar

Vivian C.

Yelp
I got takeout here and it was solid! The chicken katsu was still crispy when we got home. The curry and rice was delicious.
google avatar

Isaac H.

Yelp
Amazing find!! I was really craving Japanese curry and this hit the spot! The curry was smooth and sweet, you get to pick your spice level and it's even on the table. The rice and the curry went well together. My only gripe is that there wasn't enough chicken katsu lol, the chicken is good, don't get me wrong, but I just wish there wasn't more! Bonus points for amazing service and a big parking lot!
google avatar

Nelson L.

Yelp
Popped in for a quick lunch here at the curry club, great tasting curry. Pretty nice inside makes it feel like an old style no-frills lunch place service was great. The karrage was fried to perfection. Wish I lived closer to these types of places.
google avatar

Yelp
Such a cute simple little place. Saw pictures online that the owner built the booths and stuff. So cool! Feels cozy upon walking in. Love that they have a small menu so that they focus on their main focus.. their curry. First you pick your dish and then you can add whatever toppings you want to add onto it. And at your table they have 3 different shakers for you to add some spice to your dish to kick it up a notch. From the least amount of spicy (ichimi pepper), medium (cayenne pepper), and most spicy (wiri wiri pepper). The dishes are simple so I wanted to make mine packed with a lot of things with the add ons. I got the chicken katsu curry where it comes with the panko breaded chicken breast, rice, side of fukujinzuke, and the curry. I added corn, mozzarella cheese (I love cheese and wanted to do a cheese pull), and their mixed vegetables. I used the wiri wiri pepper shaker just to test out a little bit, and damn it sure packs a punch! The chicken katsu was breaded nicely where it's not too heavy, it was crispy, and chicken was moist. The curry was flavorful. And adding the toppings enhanced with dish with many different extra flavors and textures. Service was great and they were kind and attentive. Parking is shared with other business in the complex. Will be back to try curry udon... yes you can sub your rice and upgrade it to UDON noodles!
google avatar

Maridel S.

Yelp
This is the same location as Zen Curry with an updated look and feel but I believe she said same owners. I wish I had gotten the waitress's name because she was super sweet and appropriately attentive. But let's get to the good stuff! The food! We got there about 30 mins after opening so there was ample seating. We ordered the garlic cheese bread, the takoyaki (one of the best) katsu curry, the karaage curry, and we added some garlic chips, shrimp, and spam. I believe we all got mild but even with the mild there was a comfortable and delicious slight kick to it. The good thing was there were spices at each table if you wanted to take it up a notch. Everything was fresh, nice and crisp, and perfectly portioned. Definitely one of the best Japanese curry houses in the area. Within an hour of our meal the spots quickly filled up but our servers still delivered great customer service.
google avatar

Jasmine C.

Yelp
This casual dinner spot specializes in Japanese curry. There's a lot extra toppings you can add to your dish. There are appetizers too. I got the tonkatsu with curry. I got spice level 2 but I could have done spicier. I like that they do have 4 different spice powders on the side if you want to add more. The price is good and food was average. We got seated right away. The servers were really friendly and checked on us a few times.
google avatar

Bea P.

Yelp
As a fan of Japanese curry, I was excited to try The Curry Club. I ordered the chicken katsu curry with egg and creamy crab croquette. I also got a side of chicken karaage. The chicken katsu was crunchy and I liked the curry sauce. The egg and creamy crab croquette was a nice addition but I didn't taste much crab in the croquette. There are three spicy levels available on the table: Ichimi, cayenne, and wiri wiri pepper. After not feeling any heat from the ichimi and cayenne, I went straight to wiri wiri and instantly felt the burn so just a heads up that there's a significant jump in spiciness with wiri wiri. Overall, glad there's another dedicated curry spot in town!
google avatar

Samuel P.

Yelp
Really solid Japanese curry spot. This is my go-to spot in Convoy if I have some time for a meal and don't have any other specific cravings. I get the medium spicy curry with Karaage Chicken. Their Karaage Chicken is really juicy and matches perfectly with the curry. Try it if you haven't tried it before!
google avatar

Mary K.

Yelp
The waitstaff was very warm and helpful. I ordered the pork katsu curry which was today's special and thoroughly enjoyed it. Pokémon was playing in front of me and the taste of the curry was nostalgic. I enjoyed my visit and am sure to be back with some friends!
google avatar

Erika T.

Yelp
Small and quiet restaurant. Easy to find parking. Good service! Ordered the Tonkatsu Curry which did not take long to come out. The rice portion is huge and the protein portion is okay. A good amount but not too much. The curry already came with a super mild spice with a good kick. It was super flavorful and not tooooo salty. There are a lot of options to add on and other sides to order- not just curry. Overall I would come back if I was craving Japanese Curry.
google avatar

Eva C.

Yelp
Visited this place a bit after its soft opening, so I could see things coming together. Service was good, and I'm sure it will get better with time. The establishment itself was fairly small but perfect for an enjoyable ambiance. I was very excited to try a new Japanese Curry place and I left fairly satisfied! Tried both the Chicken Katsu Curry and the Potato Croquette Curry and both were super yummy! I definitely preferred the potato croquette to the chicken. The curry itself was flavorful and paired well with everything it was served with. I would definitely recommend adding mixed veggies to the curry as it brought forth an extra texture and flavor that elevated the dish. The Seaweed Salad was not the best, the Garlic Naan was okay, and the Creamy Crab Croquettes were tasty! Overall, The Curry Club is a great place to get some yummy Japanese curry, and I will definitely come back soon!
google avatar

Sharon L.

Yelp
Great service and warm, comfortable ambiance but sadly not a fan of the curry. The chicken karaage appetizer was tasty and juicy. I liked how each piece was well seasoned and bite sized - easy to eat and lots to share. The curry was pretty sweet, which is not my personal preference. There are 3 spices on each table to spice it up but I normally prefer a more savory than sweet base. The brisket was pretty dry - there were a couple more tender / fattier pieces but the majority were dry. Great portion of protein though! Tonkatsu was okay but slightly dry and not very juicy as well. The curry and rice ratio was 50-50 and pretty good, unlike what some reviews say.
google avatar

Kaitlyn W.

Yelp
I went to the Curry Club when it first opened, so it may be better now, but it felt like a joke to call this curry. You get so little for an average priced curry, and then you need to pay more to get other toppings, such as the egg seen in the photo. The quality of the curry itself was questionable and far from authentic. It was rich, but didn't really taste like Japanese curry. Also tried their fried oysters and takoyaki, both of which were of similar quality, so, average, but nothing to write home about. Would not go back.
google avatar

Emma B.

Yelp
Stopped here Friday night and was impressed with the tonkatsu curry! The staff were friendly and attentive. The indoor decor was really neat too. I'll be back!
google avatar

George A.

Yelp
Still on their soft opening phase so I'll just focus on their food. We got Chicken Katsu with Mixed Vegetable and Pork Katsu with extra Tofu Katsu. It's good that you can customized the sides that can go with your curry meal. I like mine with the vegetable and my wife likes it without vegetable. Both chicken and pork were prepared perfectly well - very lean, juicy and very tender. This deserved a 5. The curry is just average. The. You have 3 types of chili powders (Ichimi, Cayenne and Wiri Wiri) if you'd like to enhance the flavor of your meal (not just spicy level but also different "chili" flavor). Bottom line, we enjoyed our meal and it fits our $50 date budget.
google avatar

Rhiza D.

Yelp
This place aesthetically is beautiful and modern. The curry itself is good and plated beautifully and I love how you can control the spices. Parking was easy and service was good. I got the katsu chicken curry with veggies, unfortunately the chicken meat itself tasted like poor quality chicken. I can say I never really feel that way when going to restaurants. I wanted to love this place, I love how they also offer noodles with curry although I didn't try it. The taste and quality of the chicken alone does not align with the price.

Yelp
3.5 stars Came on a weeknight, there was a short wait. I decided on karaage as an appetizer and brisket curry since I had never seen that before. The karaage was crispy and came with some kewpie mayo. I wish there was more breading to make it more crispy and maybe a larger size to order for a few dollars more. I woulda ordered the gyoza but it was the deep fried type, I prefer pan fried which has a chewy side as well as a crunchy side. The curry had a sweet note to it, it tasted similar to House brand Vermont curry. It says their curry is made with fruits and vegetables which make sense as Vermont curry is made with apples for sweetness. The brisket was very tender, a nice twist on tender beef with curry. I wished there was a little more rice I'd suggest you order extra rice for $2 more. You can also order add ons like an egg, cheese, garlic, ect. There was 3 different levels of chili powder on the table to adjust your spice level which I thought was nice that you can make it you your liking. The first 2 didn't seem too spicy to me as the medium heat was cayenne pepper so I used the hottest (wiri wiri) sparingly. At first I didn't get any heat but it has a latent effect and sneaks up on you after, so use it sparingly and taste it before you pile it on. There was lots of parking in the lot that it shares with Yuk Dae Jang, Mikami revolving sushi and Katsu Cafe. Service was helpful and friendly.

Yelp
I went when it was Zen Curry and thought it was okay, but I enjoyed this so much more! This place is definitely worth your time! Located in the same center as Bei Yuan and Lolitas, parking is most definitely not an issue here. This lot is big with not very busy places, so you shouldn't be competing for parking really. A bonus if you're a Tesla driver, there is a supercharger in the lot as well. The place itself is also decently sized. It's not ginormous but sits a good amount of parties. It's clean and the decor is minimal but gets the job done. I have nothing bad to say about the service. Staff was very friendly when they greeted us at the door. We were greeted with smiles. I thought the staff did a good job at explaining things on the menu and they were very patient. I also thought they checked on us a good amount of times. So overall, I enjoyed the customer service. Food was pretty good and satisfied my craving big time. I had the spam curry with a croquette and my friend had tofu curry with karaagae. We both liked that the curry itself wasn't too heavy and dense. Rice wasn't dry and portion was great. I definitely see myself coming back. I honestly prefer this over Cocos. I think its the better option for curry in San Diego and highly suggest this to give a go!

Yelp
Decided to give this place another try and our visit was definitely better this time. The tonkatsu was not overcooked this time and was crispy and tender. Still think the naan could be better, honestly could do without it but we enjoy our curries with naan. And of course the wiri wiri gives a nice spice to the curry! Service was nice, there was a 10 minute wait for a seat but once seated and we placed our order, food came out quickly.

Yelp
Really good curry. Typical Japanese style restaurant. Service was quick and servers were very sweet. Empty right at opening and plenty of parking.

Yelp
We had Zen Curry in the past and wasn't a fan but decided to give The Curry Club a try, knowing that it's a rebranding of Zen Curry. The old signs are down and the new one is yet to be put up. Brisket curry was something they didn't have last time but we got spam curry and chicken katsu curry with garlic chips. We didn't find the curry special. Tasted like The Golden Curry sauce mix that you get at the store plus spicing it yourself based on the 3 spice jars on the table was not why I wanted to eat out. I'd rather have a spice level from the kitchen than the option of spicing it more myself. We also ordered Takoyaki which had too much batter and tasted doughy with few bits of octopus. Chicken karaage was juicy but the dipping sauce could have been a special house sauce than just Kewpie mayo. Parking in this plaza was plenty but scarce because of other eateries during peak times.

Yelp
We came in during a busy time but got seated pretty quickly, which was a nice surprise considering it's a small spot with a waitlist. The decor inside was really charming. We did wait a bit for the food, but it was totally worth it. Everything looked amazing when it came out, and the taste was exactly what we were craving. We love making Japanese curry at home, and this hit all the right notes. It wasn't super unique or mind-blowing, but definitely tasty and satisfying. We'd still come back again when we're craving a reliable bowl of curry.

Yelp
It's the same ownership as the previous curry shop at this suite in the Independence Square of Kearny Mesa. They decided to separate from that chain brand and have recently opened The Curry Club. Posted on the front door was a sign that said they were in a soft opening phase with limited business hours. When I asked our waitress when the grand opening would be, she said it already occurred. If that was true, then the signage needed to be updated along with any expanded operating hours (i.e. beyond just 5 to 9 pm from Tuesday to Sunday?). There was seating for about two dozen customers. To my surprise, the place was fully occupied when we arrived. We added our party name to a short waitlist. A two-sided 'soft opening' menu was provided. The front showed the eight types of curry rice along with toppings and extras. The back displayed the starters, donburi (only one bowl choice for now), and drinks. An order of the Chicken Karaage was split between us. About ten small pieces of deep fried chicken were served with kewpie mayo. I felt the portion size was small, and the chicken wasn't hot out of the fryer like I have tried elsewhere. I picked the Spam Katsu Curry as an entree. Four pieces of panko breaded Spam were served with a scoop of white rice and brown sauce. The sauce was made up of a beef base broth blended with vegetables, fruits, and an 18-spice garam masala. Because of the fruits, the curry tasted naturally sweet. There was no preset or adjustable spice level available as common with other curry shops. Instead, three types of complimentary spices were placed at each table in different shakers. You could sprinkle however much you wanted on your food to heat up the taste buds. The spice type and respective Scoville units were printed on each label. I tried the first two listed below and found the Cayenne Pepper provided sufficient kick to my curry. The ability for a diner to customize the spiciness was unique. Maybe a fourth choice could be added for those who enjoy burning their palates. * Ichimi Togarashi (Japan): 500 to 2500 units * Cayenne Pepper (French Guiana): 30,000 to 50,000 units * Wiri Wiri Pepper (Guyana): 100,000 to 350,000 units I would like to have seen a larger base of rice in the dish to balance the amount of curry. I finished the Spam and the rice with plenty of sauce still available. If I had known the carb to sauce ratio, then I might have ordered extra rice. Our food did come out quickly from the kitchen, and the service was adequate. Based on our dinner at The Curry Club, I gave a 3.5 star rating for the experience.

Yelp
I'm a HUGE curry lover so I was excited to hear that zen curry was coming back with a rebrand! I've been here 2x now and can say the food is solid, the decor is cuter n more modern than before, and that the staff is very nice and friendly. The first time I came, I fell in love and felt like the curry tasted way better than when it was zen curry. It even reminded me of the original curry house chain that closed! The curry was flavorful and delicious and the chicken katsu and brisket were both cooked very well. My bf and I also love spice so we loved being able to play around with the spice powder and adjusting it to our heart's content without extra charge. The only complaint we had was that there could've been more rice because we were left with more sauce. We left feeling a little hungry still! The second time we came back, we noticed the portion was larger and there was more rice. We liked that but also felt like there could've been more sauce now. The sauce also tasted a little different and less flavorful to me? I liked the taste more the first time. We also tried the takoyaki and spam katsu and thought it was just ok. I'll still keep coming back but it seems maybe they're still not super consistent and still figuring things out!

Yelp
First time trying The Curry Club and was pleasantly surprised. The inside of the restaurant was quaint and clean, not too much seating area but spacious enough. Parking lot was enormous for convoy standards which was a huge plus. Service was friendly and attentive. As for the food itself, the chicken katsu curry exceeded my standards. The katsu was perfectly crispy and the rice was cooked well. The standout was the curry itself, which was balanced and flavorful with the best smooth texture. Personally, I think the proportions could use some adjustment - some more chicken and pickled veggies would have been perfect. As an aside, the list of optional add-ons were extensive but a bit pricey. Additionally, the variety of togarashi powders were great and each offered a different level and type of spice. I would highly recommend trying all of them! Overall, I would definitely come back if I was craving some solid Japanese curry!

Yelp
Zen curry is back!! Sorry sorry, 'The Curry Club'. The facelift is a welcome change to the somewhat more authentic looking (though more cramped feeling) old look. Curry is still as delicious as ever, and service is as friendly as it ever was. Glad that my favorite Japanese curry spot is back up and running.

Yelp
We came here to pick up lunch. We ordered the fried gyoza, seaweed salad, crab croquette, Oyakodon, Chicken Karaage Curry, and Beef Stew Curry. Most of the food was good. The curry we ordered was mild and had a little bite to it but was good. The Oyakodon had good flavor. But I wish had a little more chicken and sauce in it. The gyozas were just okay. And the crab cake was good but a bit pricy for just one small cake. Service was very good. The person taking my order was very patient with me as I was being indecisive. My order came out fast. But the restaurant itself was not crowded. The setting was open and casual. Good space. But we did take out so we didn't get to enjoy the ambiance. Parking can be challenging around meal times and coming on a Friday around 11:30 was a bit crowded.

Yelp
Another great lunch option in the Convoy area, The Curry Club, located across the way from Ranch 99 on Clairemont Mesa Blvd. The inside is very spacious, good for large lunch or dinner gatherings. I rolled in during lunch and ordered the katsu chicken curry with cayenne pepper. The curry was flavorful and the chicken had the right combo of crunchy with juicy tenderness. I decided to add on the egg, but definitely not necessary. The staff was very friendly and welcoming, so The Curry Club will be on the rotation for the lunch crew when we are in the Convoy District.

Yelp
So happy about their reopening! Came on a Wednesday around 5:15PM and we were luckily seated right away, as it filled up while we were eating. My sister and I shared the chicken katsu curry and tonkatsu curry (both around $15) which were both delicious. We also ordered the chicken karaage ($7) which was juicy and crispy! It's very small and cozy inside. Service was great and attentive, and all the workers were so kind!
