The Cutting Edge Cafe

This place has great healthy options for affordable prices, which has been hard to find in this area IMO. The mango salmon salad was great and had a nice citrus kick to it with the mango and the dressing. I highly recommend trying this place out if you haven’t yet!

Customer service on point. The sweet potato fries were delish! I also had the avocado club, which was okay. My companion had the salmon salad, which was also okay. I will be back to try something else.

Ate here for the first time on 8/22/2025 and ordered the pimento cheese panini and it was excellent! Very great sandwich and had a side of sweet potato fries which were also excellent. Wife had a salad that was very large and she enjoyed, this place is definitely on our list of places we will frequent. Highly recommend, great food.

Do yourself a favor and come here for your next lunch. Delicious and fresh food, and big portions! Great menu of fresh and healthy dishes. Will be back!

This place was awesome! Excellent vegan menu options! I loved the fresh quality and homemade sauces. The flavors after a much adored taste. The staff were so kind, and we even got to meet the master minds behind these wonderfully succulent recipes! Yes! The food here is great for vegans and non-vegans. I wish they were open for longer hours, but I'll catch them when I can and visit often! This place reminded me of a restaurant in Philly as far as atmosphere and quality! I loved that!

Great hospitality! Hugh selection of vegan options. Overall a GREAT place to dine, very friendly staff and welcoming environment. Quality of service and food is superb. I always place a to go order when I’m dining in. Large portions for takeout, in which I normally eat for dinner. The food is so fresh no matter if you are dining in or order takeout. 10/10 in my Keith Lee voice.

I have only had the salmon mango salad and it is pretty good and very filling.

Can't believe it's been about 5 years since I've been here. It was a Monday afternoon, my son and I came here for lunch to take back home. They were pretty busy and had several people waiting for pickup orders as well. I ordered their salmon mango salad and my son had the kids grilled cheese and fruit. A 15-20 minute wait turned into almost 30. We weren't in a rush so no worries. The salad was delicious. The dressing was yummy. My son's grilled cheese had very little cheese but was okay. I like seeing fruit cups not the typical canned fruit cocktail so I was impressed with this. I'll definitely come back soon!

Yum! What a great lunch spot. I had the special and it was both weird and delicious. A spicy hot dog with egg salad on top and deliciously seasoned sweet potato fries on the side. Awesome ! The staff were great and the service was surprisingly quick for as busy as they were. Made a great spot to catch up with a friend and chat. Also definitely what I would call family friendly.

Wow! Pleasant surprise at The Cutting Edge Cafe. I was headed to Tropical Smoothie, but decided on the whim to check out this place next door which is the Cutting Edge. The Jam grilled cheese was the most delicious sandwich I've had lately! And the tomato basil soup is chefs kiss! Staff is super friendly. I do wonder if they really do survive on only having 1 chef. He did a good job, and I was impressed, but it was a longer wait for my sandwich and soup. So next time I visit I'll make sure I'm not in a rush or on work lunch. Place is organized and nice . I can't wait to try everything on the menu.

So tasty and healthy! Food- my farro and goat cheese salad (add salmon) was the best I've ever had! My friends got a caprese panini and grilled cheese with jam were tasty too. We also got hummus and pita and sweet potato fries. We all were content with the portion sizes but not overwhelmed, which was nice. Service- the lady at the front desk was super personable and knowledgeable about the menu. Pleasant on the phone and in person. Giving each person special treatment. Vibe- cute cafe, not too much decor and clean. Folks gathered in groups and by themselves. Many getting takeout. And the kitchen is open for your viewing pleasure. I actually stop here for lunch EVERYTIME I'm in town from DC!

I highly recommend The Cutting Edge. There isn't a bad dish in the house. Their prices are reasonable for the quality and quantity you receive. The restaurant is very cute and the staff is amazing. Shawn was wonderful last time we came in. It was close to closing but he happily took our order, made our food, and conversed with us. He even let us try a strawberry biscuit. It is a definite try- I recommend the chicken salad!

Food was very good. Ambience was nice, however, it was very hot in there since the kitchen is open to the dining room. I'm guessing the prices were reasonable. You order at the counter and then they deliver it to you and everyone was really nice. The head chef came out and asked if we were OK. They even closed and we didn't even know because they were nice enough to let us stay.

This is my kind of lunch spot. Fresh food, fun menu, clean environment. The menu has a great selection of sandwiches and salads with unique ingredients. The panini club I had was amazing. The hummus and pita was good, but too much bread on bread (my fault for ordering). Excited to come back and try the soup!

Late November weather, low gray clouds, misting rain, and leaves falling. This was perfect weather for my lunch today. The Cutting Edge gave me something I haven't had since childhood. Apparently I may of not been alone in that feeling. Well who's to really say what the others were feeling other then hunger. Either way, it was my first time here and it did not disappoint. I arrived around noon. The line was out the door. It moved quickly and I ordered the special of the day; Chicken and Dumplings. I made my way and bellied up to the counter and made myself comfortable. One young cheerful and very busy young lady at the register was also helping to serve. Three men cooking and preparing dishes just beyond my reach. It was an orchestra of dining experience. As I sat there, the restaurant filled up. Almost every seat taken. I waited patiently while observing the quartet handle everything smoothly. When the bowl was brought in front of me, I knew this was going to be good. The way it looked and smelled was wonderful. It tasted even better. My tastebuds were doing a happy dance. The dumplings reminded me of my Grandma's. Great texture, taste and chew. There was no shortage of dumplings or chicken and those were complimented with a carrots, onions and celery and topped with what I believe to be some of the skin from the chicken fried and tasty little treat. I have not had a chicken and dumplings that reminded me so much of my childhood until now.

The food was so fresh and tasty. Possibly the best falafel I've ever eaten. My friend had the salmon salad. We both ate every last bite.

Wow!! This place was a great find. Fresh ingredients, friendly staff and CLEAN environment. I highly recommend the Sesame Chicken Salad!! I will be back to try the pork belly sandwich

Super cute lunch spot, Mom and I wanted a change and we were delighted. The food was fresh and delicious.

Cutting Edge was recommended to us by the chef and owner of LeGrand Kitchen, so I knew it would be good. Finding a good time to get myself over to Chesapeake on a Friday for their burger special was another story. We finally made the time and I am so glad we did! This is one of my new favorite burgers in the entire area. Incredibly flavorful, with each component really holding its own and combining in the most wonderful way. They were also running a salmon burger special which was equally as delicious! Sweet Potato Fries are not my typical go to, but theirs are better than any I've had anywhere else. Soft on the inside, crisp on the outside, and seasoned to perfection with almost a hint of a smokey barbecue flavor? The prices at this lunch spot are also hard to beat. We really look forward to going back to try more of their sandwich and salad offerings.

Really enjoyed having lunch there. They make interesting and delicious things that you won't find elsewhere. I look forward to trying more of their offerings soon. Very highly recommended.

Although they close too early in my opinion, they serve awesome food. The service was good and the atmosphere was inviting. I hope they come back soon!

Okay, it has been a LONG time since I visited the Cutting Edge. I used to be down in this area a lot at one of the medical facilities nearby, and eating lunch here was always a bright spot in my (markedly stressful at the time) treatments. My dad was in town this past weekend and was headed to the Outer Banks, so when I plotted the map of in-betweens for us to meet for brunch, this place popped up and I thought, I have GOT to see if it's still as good as I remember. Short answer: Yes. It's still amazing. We rolled in at 10:30 right when they opened - food was excellent. Everyone in our party raved about it. I got those sweet potato fries and they are STILL the best ones I've had in the area! I got the grilled cheese and apple with bacon panini and it was awesome. Three cheers all around for this place - service is great, plenty of seating and a nice environment. Why you would go to Panera when this place is an option, I have no idea. Check it!

I am a new vegetarian and am happy to say that the Smoked Mozzarella Caprese was one of the best sandwiches that I have ever had. I took a bite and ended up eating the whole sandwich in my car before I got back to my office in Norfolk. I will definitely be back.

This place was such a neat find. Came out here b/c we happened to be in the area and wow I'm sure glad we did! The menu is very simple and executed perfectly. For what they offer, they nail it. Its now quickly become a staple of "hey... we going to Greenbriar area? Are they open? Well ok! Let's go" where to go for lunch. :) If you haven't been here you MUST try the sweet potato fries. If you've been here and not tried them... you MUST try the sweet potato fries. Then you combine that with their special sauce, it's just awesome. I do wish they'd give more fries however, I know that french fries are my Achilles heel. You could give me pounds and I might still complain. :) If you're into simple, healthier eating, this is the place for you. You don't walk away feeling like you've just been bloated or heavy... it's simple, clean, and effective. Hands-down, highly recommend! I had to get old faithful today. For the past month, I've been getting the chicken and dumplings or the burgers. Grilled cheese and jam today. It's a must try. This place is great. Staff is very friendly and food is incredibly delicious. It's hard to beat that. If you haven't tried this place, you need to.

Enjoyed a great time for lunch with 10 family members! Service was excellent and food was delicious! The casual ambiance was just right. We took home the Mango Salmon Salads which were delicious. We highly recommend The Cutting Edge Cafe. Excellent food and Service.

Went here for the first time today and was completely blown away. Not even trying to be dramatic but I had one of the best sandwiches of my life! Highly recommend! Great atmosphere, great price, amazing food.

Great customer service and clean restaurant. Ordered the chicken apple panini with the cucumber salad and was very pleased with the ordered. Very flavorful and fresh ingredients. If you're looking for healthier options this is your place to go. Smaller menu but worth it.

I'm so glad that I found this spot. I was actually headed to the tropical smoothie cafe next door but saw the cutting edge and the menu looked good. I travel a lot for work and get tired of eating out but it was delicious and healthy. I got the sesame chicken salad. Soooo good. Adding this spot to my rotation every time I'm in town again!

I had the salmon salad and it was AMAZING. The salmon was cooked to perfection. We are from California and it was comparable to what you would have at a fine dining restaurant in California. The flavors were perfectly balanced. It was truly one of the best meals out I have had in years. It was the best meal we had in Virginia for sure. We ate here for going to the airport to fly home. It wasn't too far out of the way from ORF. Next time we are eating here when we land too!

I got the Salmon burger yesterday and I'm still thinking about it so much that I came on yelp to look at the rest of the menu. It was seasoned so well. The bun was fresh and delish. I loved the alfalfa sprouts on the sandwich so much. I got the cucumber and tomato salad as a side and it was amazing! I called my mom after lunch to tell her she had to try this place. Very very impressed! Please make the salmon burger a permanent staple on the menu! Also the service was great. The cashier was kind and helpful. Even warned us about the water coming out of the fountain quickly and I walked up to the counter later and he gave me a box without me even having to ask. Already planing to go back my next day off!

For the first time since the middle of March, I went to work physically today, even though it will be once a week until further notice due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Some of the co-workers asked if folks would like to go to lunch. Knowing I haven't dined in at a restaurant since March, I was kind of hesitant since I have pre-existing conditions. So hesitantly, I said yes since none of us brought any lunch (we can't use the fridge at work unfortunately). Ever since I've been working in Chesapeake, a lot of my co-workers have raved about this place. They serve salads and paninis, more if you're looking for healthier options. I ordered the grilled cheese and jam which consists of goat cheese, Swiss, cheddar, caramelized onions and jam (minus the cheddar for me since I'm not into yellow cheese on sandwiches) and for the side I picked sweet potato fries. One word: delicious!!! The panini was grilled very well and the cheese.....melted to perfection. Caramelized onions added a nice flavor and the jam....not sure what flavor it was but man oh man was it really good. The sweet potato fries.....I don't know what seasoning they used, but this was probably the best set of fries I've had in some time. They were so delicious I even started to eat some of the seasonings off my plate. Overall, a nice time with co-workers in a environment that was very safe (the employees wore masks and tables were spaced out appropriately) and enjoying very good food. I will be coming back here again :)

This place is a nice hole in the wall with original sandwich ideas. I had the pork belly, pimento cheese with peaches sandwich. Sounded like an odd combination, but it was amazing. Highly recommend and I will return soon!!

The Food her is First.. from the smell to the taste.. within the first 5 min of getting my food and taking out, I was sitting in the car eating . I had the Blackened Vegan Chik'n wrap with sweet potatoes fries

Matt is an actual artist. Daily specials created like he's in a high end cooking competition! Tuna Melt is made from sushi grade tuna. Fantastic. Had a sliced Turkey sandwich that made me cry a little it was so good. Ate here 4 straight days. Every day was great. Not that it affects the taste of the food, but they also provided some food for some of the Walmart associates who were affected by the recent tragedy. Seem like really good folks making really good food.

Pricey but it's the price you pay for the quality of the food (certainly not quantity). We ordered the avocado club sandwich with a side of cucumber tomato salad and the falafel salad with a side of tomato basil soup. Right off the bat, everything looked fabulously fresh and appetizing! The tomato basil soup was perfect. The avocado club was good but it was missing *something*...whether it was that it needed another dressing/condiment on there or something, but we ended up dipping the sandwich into the soup with each bite and that seemed to do the trick. The cucumber tomato salad was fresh and well portioned with minimal added flavoring which paired well with the avocado club. Now, the falafel salad left me a little bummed that I didn't order something else. Right from when the waitress put it down, I noticed it comes with just three little falafel balls and was rather disappointed. I felt like I had to cut up each ball and ration it out to get some in every other bite or so. The greens were fresh but with the scant amount of tzatziki dressing over it all, many of those falafel-less bites were also missing any dressing. Won't be ordering that one again if we are to return. All together, the bill came out to about $26 for two lunch entrees and cups of free water. Overall, a decent visit that left us feeling satisfied..not overly full, not hungry still but...satisfied.

Whew, Chile! The Cutting Edge Café is life, do you hear me!? It is so good that I have been for lunch back to back for the past three days straight. I have not experienced better paninis in my life. On my first visit, I got the chicken avocado club with a side of hummus, on my second visit, I got the chicken thigh special on potato bread with a side salad, and on my third visit, I got the wasabi braised beef sandwich with sweet potato fries. Each and every day the food was hot, fresh, and delicious; furthermore, there was not one menu item I did not like. There is no wrong decision here when it comes to picking a meal. Service is very diligent and friendly. It stays packed for lunch but doesn't let that deter you, you will get your food in no time and with a smile. All in all, more people need to know about The Cutting Edge Café, and I'm kicking myself for not having getting down here sooner.

LOVE. THIS. PLACE. We live in VB, but luckily my husband works out in Chesapeake, near The Cutting Edge. I go here any time I'm in the area, and my husband brings it home any time he leaves work early. I always get the Wasabi Braised Beef. It is heaven on earth. There is a lot of beef, I'm definitely full after this meal! It has pickled veggies, spinach and wasabi mayo. Sometimes, but not always, you can feel the burn of the Wasabi mayo. You get 1 side with a sandwhich, and I usually get the sweet potato fries. They are so good, crunchy and just the right amount. This time I got the side salad with balsamic vinaigrette. The ingredients are so fresh. You get arugula, tomatoes, and cucumbers. When picking it up for takeout, it's all packaged in a cute little kraft box, separated by parchment paper. The Cutting Edge is a hidden gem! Please, please, please open up a shop in Virginia Beach!

I've always wanted to try this place but suck at time management. Finally went for lunch and it was just as tasty as I suspected.

I can't say enough great things about Matt and the rest of the staff at the Cutting Edge. This is the absolute best lunch spot in Chesapeake. Prices are fair, quality is amazing , portions are plentiful. Daily specials are in fact daily specials. One special, Burger Fridays, will make you a weekly customer at first bite. The restaurant itself has a great feel to it. Tables are plentiful, but there's not so many as to make it feel crowded. It's got a casual feel to it but feels special enough to impress the harshest critic. Get the sweet potato fries even if you think you don't like sweet potato fries.

The food is really good and also different and interesting combination of items that when combined together tastes really good. I really Enjoy their soups as well. It's a great place to grab some lunch and meet up with friends!

We stopped for lunch on the way to the Outer Banks. It was quite busy for lunch time on a Friday. I got the pimento cheese panini with a side of cucumber tomato salad. The panini was crispy on the outside, had chicken grilled to perfection, creamy pimento cheese and sweetness provided by caramelized onions! I had half of it with a cup of tomato basil soup and the side salad which was perfect and balanced. My husband got the tuna melt, it was prepared well but he would have preferred that it not have potato chips on the sandwich. My parents got the mango Salmon salad (grilled salmon, mango, avocado, arugula, nuts and a vinaigrette) and falafel salad (mixed greens, tomato, cucumber, tzaziki, hummus and tahini, falafel). Falafel was cooked well but a bit salty. Overall, they liked the salads. You order at the front and seat yourself and they bring the food and silverware to you and clean up after. Service was quick and friendly. I would just say due to the open kitchen and grill, it gets pretty hot! Overall, we would return for a quick bite while traveling!

Spoiler Alert: Chesapeake has great food. I came here for lunch and ordered the Wasabi Braised Brisket with pickled vegetables, arugula, cilantro and wasabi mayo with a side of sweet potato fries. First of all, idk what they put on those fries but I could have eaten my weight in them. Not extra crunchy, well seasoned, and fried to order. I had an aioli on the side to dip it in, so dont miss out on that. Now the brisket was melt in your mouth good. To my surprise it was not spicy, so dont avoid it because of the wasabi. The hours are short, so make a lunch date and go there.

I was traveling in Chesapeake for business and gave The Cutting Edge Cafe a try for lunch on Tuesday. I had such a positive experience between the quality of the food and personal recommendations from the friendly staff, I decided to visit this restaurant every day of the week that I was in the area. The daily specials are definitely worth checking out if you can't decide on what to order. The restaurant owner definitely puts in a lot of effort to make sure that you leave feeling appreciated as a customer. Highly recommend trying out if you in the area or a local resident!

My favorite little sandwich shop. I started with turkey avocado club, and migrated to salmon burgers. I'm a superfan!! I think there's something special about a business where the owner is onsite. Matt is killing it every day!

Busy cafe, locally owned & operated. We had some sandwiches and a Thai chicken salad w/ sweet potato fries. ALL DELICIOUS. Definitely a place to enjoy lunch any day.

I was really excited about coming here and I don't know if maybe it was just rush hour but I was not impressed on how I received the food. The restaurant looked clean and staff was friendly but the way the food was handled was poor. Attached is a picture of the salmon burger I got .. I asked for tomato, onions and lettuce to be added and as you can see nothing of that sort is there . Here's the alerting part, the top bun is completely toasted/burnt with a little mayo . DO YOU KNOW HOW CANCEROUS CONSUMING this type of stuff is ????? Yeah thanks no thanks

I love the healthy options here. The menu is very interesting and the presentation wonderful. I never feel bad about eating food from this place. It feels like I'm doing something really good for myself.
