"Biryani is usually one of the best things on the menu at any Indian restaurant. But when you and your friends have gone all-out and the table’s looking like Johnny Vegas did the ordering, it can get obscured among the other dishes. At Dum Biryani, a new Indian restaurant in Soho, that won’t be the case. Here, the biryani is the focus, and it gets a stage light, a thousand screaming fans, and one of those twin-neck guitars for an epic solo. The elevated version you’ll eat here is the South Indian variety, which lands on your table encased in a flaky pie crust so that the rice beneath doesn’t dry out. Cutting that hot crust open is like hitting a power chord through a Marshall stack - not only will you smell it, you’ll also feel it. While the signature biryanis are the best reason to visit Dum, you should plan to go in on the starters too. The hot wings and stir-fried prawns are must-orders, and yes, they’re great for sharing. It’s also worth noting that you’ll get a lot of food for what you pay, which means that it’s very easy to order more than you can eat. One biryani between two is the sweet spot. Speaking of sweet spots, we love that Dum Biryani has an old school atmosphere while also feeling modern. The scuffed walls and furniture will remind you of period films you’ve seen about India, but the pop art and Tupac over the speakers signal that it’s also a bit trendy. And though Dum looks like it was designed by South Asian hipsters, it’s entirely staffed by their uncles - the service is no-nonsense curry house, in a good way. With superb food and a laid-back atmosphere, it’s easy to recommend Dum for an easy dinner in central London with friends. Bring a crew. Bring your parents. Unlike the average guitar solo, this is one you won’t want to miss." - David Paw

After the wife was done shopping nearby we had to look for a place for dinner. We were looking for Indian food and walked in here. The service was splendid and the food was delicious. Both the naan, rice pilaf and the curries were great. It’s hard to find Indian food this good in the Netherlands.

Google
Hassan, our server was lovely! We got the lamb vindaloo & lamb tikka masala. It was the best Indian food we’ve had in years! Food was amazing, service fantastic, location and vibe was awesome. Would highly recommend 10/10!! Will be back next time we are in London!

Came here for dinner and the food was excellent! So delicious and everything came out fresh and piping hot! Our sever was Hassan and he was very attentive and helpful! Some of the things we ordered include - Garlic Naan, White Rice, Chicken Tikka Masala, Butter Chicken, Butter Naan. Everything was very good! I also highly recommend the Vegetable Samosas for an appetizer, they were soo good!

Google
We were very, very fortunate to find this restaurant. The place is quite small and it was packed when we got there but they have a basement with extra space and we could get a table down there... I think that was our lucky break of the day Our waiter Fajad (I do not not how to spell it rigth) was a young indian man very well manered and educated. He was very helpful, honest and attentive to detail during our dinner. the food was absolutly the best indian food we have ever had!! we had a very nice bottle of french riesling from alsace, it made a great pairing with our spiced food selection. the down part was: they dont serve expresso the desserts did not looked very appealing and we did not tried them We are used to reward a good service but Fajad would not accept more. We highly reccomend the restaurant and Fajad's service.

Google
Hassan and the manager of the restaurant offered us the best service possible. This was the best restaurant that me and my friend visited during our trip to London. The chicken Korma was sensational and the attentive service was superior from any other restaurant. I will definitely go back when I visit. Thanks for making us feel very welcome.

Google
Absolutely amazing homely indian restaurant, with very good recommendation and service especially from the waiter Hassan. They even hit with precission the level of spiciness you ask for and adapt the dishes for allergic people. Very affordable place too! For sure would recommend!

Google
My sister Hassan delivered great customer service and was really accommodating when I informed him I had a nut allergy

Thanks to the whole team, we had another wonderful evening. Hassan and Fahad were so lovely and helpful and the food was delightful as always. Thank you.

Yelp
Pretty good Indian spot seems authentic. The saag paneer was less creamy than I've had in the states, chana masala was well seasoned but a bit undercooked. The fish curry was delicious as was the chicken tikka. Don't forget the butter naan.

Yelp
Thank you HASSAN! Truly Excellent a lovely dinner with my mother, who was treated like royalty

Yelp
Just happened to stumble upon this restaurant when walking through soho. Was seated right away and was offered excellent service by Dell and his team. I got chicken tikka masala with some naan and rice. Definitely coming back because of the food, service, and ambience!

Yelp
What a little gem on Frith Street. There's a Sri Lankan spot next door that we had tried to get into first, no luck. Hoping this spot had room, they did! The servers at Delhi Brasserie invited us in, took our coats and immediately got us started with drinks. The food was delish- we ordered samosas (smaller than the ones in the US but not a bad idea since you then have room for everything else?), aloo chop and both came with this delish spicy sauce. Food also comes up a dumb waiter which was fun to watch! We ordered all the naans, which were delish, rice and everyone got a main- meats, paneers, everything was good. Place definitely started to get busy around 8pm. Spot was cozy and I would definitely recommend. Dell was our server and he was great!

Yelp
Delicious Bangladeshi food. Right in the heart of Soho. Friendly service. Not crazy west end prices either. Garlic Chicken, onion Bhaji, tarka dahl. Certainly worth another visit for me.

Yelp
Great place, wondering why it's not seeing the love with previous ratings? This should actually be more of a 4.5 star. I consider a place good based on, "would I eat here again?" And the answer is yes. Food was flavorful, good quality cuts of meat, portions were good and service was helpful. Non-vegetarian thali Chicken Tikka, Chicken Tikka Masala, Lamb Bhuteko, Saag Paneer, Pilau Rice & Naan It was delicious! Since it was a little bit of everything, great opportunity to taste their dishes. Mmmm the lamb bhuteko had succulent pieces of lamb in a delicious sauce... the chicken dishes had all white meat, and the masala sauce was creamy and tasty, their saag paneer is the best I've ever had, cheese was the right consistency. Mmmm! I think my taste buds broke with this meal! Ordering this meal says for one person but can easily feed 2 people... just order more Naan. My husband ordered the chicken tiki masala, he was satisfied but didn't care for the pilau rice. Tandoori quail masala... was flavorful and filling. This place is busy... they were able to accommodate us on a Friday night and still give us great service.

Yelp
I had an excellent dinner at the Delhi Brasserie after seeing a play at The Apollo Theater on Shaftesbury Avenue. The show got out late and there was the Delhi Brasserie on Frith Street conveniently located on the walk back to my Hotel. I got there at 11:30 PM and they took great care of me. Try the Lamb Curry with Garlic Nan. I will definitely be going back to The Delhi Brasserie!

Yelp
This is one of our favorite more traditional Indian restaurants in London. Delhi's version of the two dishes we use as a measuring stick -Aloo Gobi and Chana Masala were tasty and fiery. In combination with the Chicken Peri Peri, our mouths were on fire (in a good way)! Everything else we ordered was solid including the fluffy garlic naan. The waitstaff was friendly and quick to refill our waters to help tame the heat. We'd recommend making this part of a night out in Soho as the surrounding neighborhood is packed with all sorts of fun drinking spots and excellent crowd-watching.

Clèm B.

Yelp
Good and affordable place in Center London for an Indian restaurant (even if the best deals are in Brick Lane in my opinion) The restaurant looks pretty fancy and I was quite surprise of the price and the quality of the meals. I ordered garlic naan with some Korai Lamb (which was perfectly spicy). The garlic naan was good even if the garlic flavor wasn't strong enough. The lamb was really good and well cook. I finished this dinner with a nice masala chai and paid £18 for everything, service included. It's a pretty nice place but not the best one in my opinion. The service is ok even if the waiters are not that friendly

Yelp
I was in the Soho neighborhood of London having drinks with appetizers in a Peruvian restaurant with my cousins who live there. They left early as they had to go to work the next day. I was still a little hungry and not ready to go back to my room. I stumbled on this Indian restaurant on the way to the tube at Piccadilly. I had the butter chicken with pulao rice and some garlic nan bread. The chicken was well spiced and excellent, the rice bland and a disappointment; the nan very good. Typical of London Indian restaurants everything is a la carte. I wished I could give it a 3.5. Also noticed that I cannot check in on yelp in Europe. It must have to do with the privacy laws. So I bookmarked the restaurant while I was eating and the review later.

Yelp
This place is pretty small and we were seated in the back room. It's sort of a funny feeling- I think it would sit about 3 tables and there's a mirror on one wall which is supposed to make the area feel bigger but it's also sort of strange. It's also a few steps below the main room which leaves the waiter to sort of peak in every few minutes and it's sort of awkward! But whatever we're here for the food! I thought this place was cool because on Yelp it said you could get a free wine or beer! Well, that's not the case. But whatever we're here for the food! So we tried the prawn & puri which turned out to be that same prawn with a tomato-y tikka sauce on fried bread. Really delicious. The vegetable korma was absolutely divine and creamy, and went well with the King Prawn Balcho. The King Prawn Balcho had more of a citrusy- tomato-y bite to it and the prawns were very large. Really good curry dishes. Yummy food and kind of strange ambiance, but whatever it worked for us!

Yelp
We landed here after a long walk in the evening looking for the Best Place that both of us could agree on. So happy we stopped for the great food, nice atmosphere and reasonable prices. They've been in business 47 years! I had my customary Lamb Saag and it was The Best Ever! Garlic Naan was also great. Hubby had Butter Chicken and liked it very much. Vegetable fried rice was fine, not remarkable. All in all a fun dining experience!

Yelp
I LOVE this place and have been coming here for over 30 years. Have just been on the phone arranging yet another birthday dinner for November. The food has always been first class, they have a very good wine list, and the service has always been impeccable. Some of the waiters weren't even born when I started coming. I don't eat anywhere else when I'm in Soho. They feel like family to me, and their extra hot curries are perfect, with an incredible blend of spices. The vegetarian options are amazing. I cannot recommend them highly enough.

Deric C.

Yelp
I was invited by Friendly to have a dinner here.Foods is average to me..I ordered Aloo potato chop as starter..it is not as crispy as menu describe. For main course I go for Salmon fish curry..it taste okay, nothing very special that I could add a star here. i only love the peshwani naan bread. As my friend is a regular and he know the staffs, the waiter was friendly to us. Good point is I find here very relaxing restaurant that allowed us to have a conversation after the meal and they don't hurry you up to pay the bill.

Jorgie H.

Yelp
Delicious Indian food very close to the west end theatre district! Full bar. Service was great! The flavors were simply spectacular!

Sheri S.

Yelp
Delhi was such a good find. There were so many options in the soho/chinatown area that it was kind of hard to choose a place to eat. Delhi was inviting with the green vines and Christmas tree lights adorning the outside. The restaurant was narrow as most buildings in London are, but once we were sent downstairs to be seated we were even in closer quarters. There was hardly any space between our table and our neighbors to our left and the right. Lamb Vindaloo( Very Spicy) and Goat Curry were very nice. Wish I had a little more food though since the portions were small. But the Naan was awesome, we had a serving or garlic Naan and a regular one. They treated us to some chocholate mints after dinner which I loved

Chris H.

Yelp
I read a few of the latest reviews and was surprised because I had a great experience here and Indian is one of my favorite cuisines. I have had many great Indian meals in my day and this ranks right up there. I was seated immediately and the service was great. I ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala, Aloo Gobi, Garlic Naan, and a couple of sides and it was excellent. The CTM was among my favorites I've ever had. At first I was surprised at what looked like a small portion but after savoring the taste and enjoying it, I was completely satisfied. I think Indian cuisine is like many other types; once you get above a certain threshold of quality, it's a matter of preference. So if anyone would unsatisfied with the meal I got here... then they're too finicky because at that point... it's really just a matter of choice. Going here before taking in a jazz set at Ronnie Scott's would make for one fine night on the town.

Tyler M.

Yelp
The host at the door asked my companion if he was OK because he was trying out his Hindi. He didn't respond to him and asked if we would be a disturbance. We immediately left because it felt so extremely awkward. Despite the beautiful smell, I can't agree with how the man with the dark-rimmed glasses at around 9:40 p.m. on Aug. 9 behaved.

Angela F.

Yelp
We had a 12 hour layover overnight and because my daughter has never been to London we decided to go into the city for a few hours and find good Indian food and see some sights. It was the best Indian food we have ever had. We ordered chicken korma and chicken tikka masala (not very daring) but it was amazing. They were open until midnight on the weekends which was great for us. Great location just off Piccadilly station. I would go back every time I'm in London! Great service. So kind.

Zach M.

Yelp
I ordered the Chicken Korma and my wife the Tandori Chicken. Both of our plates had dry (over cooked) Chicken. The Korma coconut curry sauce was very good however. But the saffron rice was dry and lacking finesse. The server was very dry and not helpful to make any recommendations but the host who seated us was kind.

Yelp
Was visiting London for the first time this past weekend and the line at Dishoom was too long so decided on this place. Saw a Yelp ad for a free beer redeemable ONLY if I ordered a starter, side and entree, to which I agreed when I showed the server the voucher on my phone. AFTER he opened the beer and poured it for me and AFTER I had already ordered my food, he continued to claim that the voucher was from 5 years ago and they would no longer honor it. Mind you the beer was only 3 pounds, so the cost wasn't a big deal more so the bad taste it left in my mouth b/c of how cheap this place is and its utter lack of tact. If you're not going to honor something, tell me in advance. The food itself was beyond mediocre and equivalent to Indian street food in New York.

Suzy V.

Yelp
My first time in London and I heard the Indian food is amazing here! Walked by this restaurant by chance and although I typically don't go to restaurants that don't hit 4 stars and up, I figured I would give it a try anyway. I was not disappointed! I ordered the lamb peri peri dish w/ garlic naan - delicious! I would definitely suggest this dish for those who love spice! Staff was really friendly, attentive and service was outstanding.

Melanie K.

Yelp
I like this place a lot. It's centrally located in the hustle and bustle of Central London, moments from Piccadilly, Tottenham Court and the theatres. And the cute gay boys. The restaurant is small-ish and the tables are close together. It's not ideal for an intimate, quiet dinner, but it's great for some tasty curry and a good night with friends. The chutneys are quite good. The mixed pickle is strong, but not too strong. The mint chutney tastes fresh. I'm not a fan of tamarind in general, but my friends enjoy it. The onion bhaji? MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM and not too greasy. The meat and veggie dishes are hearty and filling. The naan is fluffy and warm and all kinds of doughy goodness. If you visit a few times and flirt with the waiters, they'll give you a gold card. With the gold card, it's 10% every time you eat there, and 20% off if you pay cash. It's not cheap, but it's not in a cheap neighborhood. Enjoy!

Jeff W.

Yelp
This is my favorite consistent curry house in London. When I visit, I usually try to make it here at least once. This is not a place for a date or a business dinner, but, dining solo or with a couple friends, it's perfect. What really impressed me here was the personal touch of service. I was there twice in the course of a month on two separate trips and they recognized me on the second visit, giving me a gold card for any return visits. I like mouth-flaming-face-burning-off Indian food, opting usually for the Chicken Vindaloo or occasionally a Thall (which isn't on the menu, but they'll do it). But, what really impressed me was the vegetable dishes. Both the Saag Paneer and the Muttar Paneer were both amazing and available as sides. A lot of Indian restaurants make you purchase a second entree, making me feel like a glutton. Everything I have had here has been top notch, and I sure like the personalized treatment.

Yelp
It was our first full day in London so we had a pint in a pub on Old Compton Street, then went around the corner for Curry at the Delhi Brasserie. Neither my husband nor I had ever tried Indian food before, but we understood that Indian food is just about as popular in the UK as Mexican food is here in the US, so we had to try it. And we were very pleasantly surprised. We had a small table in a tiny room in the back of the (very busy) restaurant. My husband chose Lamb Sashlick and I went with the Lamb Tiki Marsala. The waiter introduced us to Padnam (very thin and crispy bread with a variety of toppings) which was wonderful. I'm not sure I have the vocabulary to describe our dishes other than to say they were delicious ... and left us wanting to further explore Indian food once we got back to the US. The only complaint I have is that it took a long time to settle our bill, at least from a North American perspective. You'd think they would be eager to settle the bill and turn the table over to another customer but they didn't seem terribly concerned. We ran into this just about everywhere we dined, so perhaps this is just "the way it is done" in the UK. But overall it was a wonderful introduction to Indian food in a very pleasant restaurant.

Aline D.

Yelp
I came here for a much needed take out in between a drinking session at Lab bar, just down the road on Old Compton Street. The food was greasy and filling, just what I needed, and the staff were friendly and gave us a few complimentary popadoms, which went down well with me. I can't say much as I only opted for its take away service, but it seems pretty decent. I wouldn't necessarily go out my way to come here but if need be, I certainly wouldn't be avoiding it.

Ajay N.

Yelp
Came here with my friends when we visited London. The food was okay - not great and not bad. We ordered 3 main course and an appetizer. The curry was good (chicken peri peri, really spicy) but the rice was not good. Ordered the biryani (chicken and mutton) but it was nowhere closer to what biryani should taste like. The table we were given was somewhere in the basement and was not comfortable to sit. The table was meant for 2 people but since the restaurant was full upstairs we were asked to sit there (3 people).

Alexandre C.

Yelp
We were very surprised in The Delhi Brasserie in Soho. The starter, the Vegetarian Thali and the dessert were very delicious. Lassi drink was refreshing and good. The service was very friendly and the prices are on average.

Stephen W.

Yelp
This place is located in the Kensington area where there are just tons of great places to eat and drink. I actually wanted to try a different restaurant for lunch but it was closed so I walked down the street and found this restaurant. I love Indian food and they had a lunch special so I decided to give it a try. The reason that I am giving it 2 stars is that the food may have been tasty, but who could really tell because it was so unbelievably hot that one could only taste heat. I asked for mild and when the waiter said "it already comes mild" I suspected that it would not ready-made to order. What I got could melt steel. It was ridiculous. I will never return here again, and there are so many excellent Indian restaurants that will make food how you want it, why should I?

Jennifer B.

Yelp
This is a very very late review! My friends and I took a trip to London from the states last year and was on the hunt for good Indian food (we heard from friends that the Indian food in the UK faaaarrrrr surpasses the ones here in the states). Honestly, we had no idea where to go so we just picked a random person on the streets to ask and were directed here. The food is REALLY good, but based on the other reviews I'm reading, perhaps I'm just being biased because the Indian food in the states compared to this place is complete shit. I don't know. I just know we really enjoyed the flavors created in their dishes! The only thing is this place is kind of small, I'm only 4'11" and 105 lbs and had trouble squeezing into my seat without sticking my body parts in the faces of my neighboring table. I guess I will just have to try out other places on my next trip to the UK and then try here again and write another rating!

Qype User (filcha…)

Yelp
Pretty depressing cramped Indian with OK food, and rubbish beer. To be fair to them, I was so exhausted I can't really remember any of it, but my mates seem to have confirmed my worst fears! There are much much better places to eat around here

Daniel N.

Yelp
The service is awful. One would expect if making a reservation one would be able to get seated at that time, consistently they run 15-30 minutes late. The problem is that the food is great...though the failure in service is starting to wear on me.

Liz Z.

Yelp
Awesome service and great food! Their veggie korma was one of the best things I've ever had. Overall it wasn't too expensive and it was open late.

Dara M.

Yelp
Group of three seated right away. Food was mediocre though. Spices were there but all food was flat and lacked flavor depth. I did however love the naan with cocounut and nuts. So many options nearby would choose one of those.

Qype User (guybta…)

Yelp
I am also highly suspicious about the 'kingfisher' beer in the Delhi brasserie. If it is real, which I doubt, then they must have added about three teaspoons of coffee sweetener to each pint, along with some kind of beer deteriorating agent. The place is basically a tourist trap, and offers overpriced average curries for undiscerning tourists. Go somewhere else instead!

Chloe S.

Yelp
Delicious meal here at Delhi. We ordered the Chicken Korma and Lamb Bouteki as well as the vegetable rice. It came out quickly and was very tasty. Great experience would definitely recommend!

Lacey W.

Yelp
My favorite Indian spot in London. Have been going here for 15 years and it never disappoints. Staff is attentive and food is hearty and flavorful. Every year I travel to London and make several trips here during my stay.

Qype User (alextw…)

Yelp
Very touristy, in a bad way. They don't have to try hard to get customers, and it shows. Service is efficient but unfriendly; they persuaded us to have draught Kingfisher but what they gave us wasn't Kingfisher, despite what it said on the glass. Unfortunately we were all too wimpy to refuse to pay for 9 pints of it. They also misheard how much I said to put on a credit card as part of the bill, probably deliberately (though I can't be sure - luckily the waiter confirmed what he thought I said) The food was below average Indian for London, i.e. still quite tasty but nothing to write home about, or even tell someone outside in the street about for that matter. I won't be going back. This place is an unfortunate stain on Soho's generally excellent and good-value culinary scene. Unfortunately, I'm sure the crowds of Spanish and Italian tourists (and Brits like us who should know better) will keep them going for many years to come. Well done Delhi Brasserie, you are the recipient of my first bad review on Qype! Food: 2 Service: 2 Value: 2

Roberta P.

Yelp
Amazing food, good price and friendly staff. One of the best curries I ever had. I ordered chicken masala and naan and my husband ordered the lamb chops. Everything tasted incredible!

Carrie L.

Yelp
Would not honor our coupon- said it was expired. Also took a long time to serve us...food was decent- hot temperature, some flavor. Small potions. Definitely downgraded for service. Did not bring more water and would not honor our Yelp coupon! Very disappointed overall.

Glen N.

Yelp
Its great - so close to the center but good quality and at decent prices. perfect for pre show food!

Qype User (Na…)

Yelp
Not bad at all although I would have expected an Indian in the heart of Soho to be of a much higher standard than this place. We all went for basic curries and I wonder if the more unique dishes, such as quail and seafood might have been cooked with a little more finesse. Yes, the Kingfisher on tap was rank and we should have sent it back rather than drunk it (very English). I was disappointed not to see anything spicy on the menu. At all. I went for the lamb peri peri (interesting they have a south Indian dish in a place called dehli brasserie) and it was very tasty but had no heat whatsoever. In fact the other curries I tried, josh, masala etc were all extremely tasty hence the 3 stars. I must say though, the bill came to over £20 each, which is extortionate for shared rice and a small curry in a bogstandard curry house.

Jacob S.

Yelp
We had a small group visiting and came across this place walking by. We have amazing service, very prompt and attentive. The food was delicious and it was a great value for London.

John M.

Yelp
This has become a Soho institution for some years you got a money voucher each time you visited but this time round I see the menus have been revamped and the options have become more standardised. Still good value for money and the service as ever is fast and efficient.

Valerie W.

Yelp
Haven't been here for lunch but is a really cozy dinner spot. Went here twice for dinner with family members. Most of the staff are friendly and take will take care of you really well. I love Indian but unfortunately don't have any other restaurants in London to compare it to. But as someone from NYC, which also has awesome Indian food, I would say the taste is good. The saag is delish but I've definitely had better roti. All in all, it's a good dining experience.
