"In Charleston, it folds its building's own history into a delightful luxury boutique sensibility." - The MICHELIN Guide
"Towering over Marion Square with an eight-story presence and 200 west-facing windows, this lime-washed hotel pairs a sleek marble-slabbed lobby and warm wooden walls with mid-century modern furnishings; the Living Room is a lively mix of guests and locals who use its leather wing backs and low-slung cane chairs as daytime reading nooks and evening happy-hour spots. Period windows date to when JFK commissioned the building, rooms feature canopy beds nicknamed “the cloud” with feather-soft Irish linens, and bathrooms are lined in polished Vermont marble with brass fixtures, a deep cast-iron soaking tub with a window view, and a glassed-in shower." - CNT Editors

"Housed in a 1960s federal building on Marion Square, this property embraces a sumptuous midcentury-modern aesthetic with a wood-paneled lobby and a Mad Men–style living room that hosts live music and a brass bar serving classic cocktails and deviled eggs with caviar. The second-floor spa pairs tufted-velvet recliners with treatments that incorporate Lowcountry flora, and the 154 light-filled rooms feature Irish linens, marble baths, and custom-printed linen by a local illustrator. A rooftop Citrus Club offers craft cocktails and skyline views, and amenities include a Volvo house car service and a boutique selling jewelry, art, and antiques." - Devorah Lev-Tov
"A midcentury dreamscape crafted from imported vintage furniture and the sweeping architecture of a former federal building commissioned in 1964 by Lyndon Johnson, this 154-room stay looks like a tiny boutique but lives large, with antique credenzas everywhere and patina-aged mirrors that send you back in time. What truly makes it one of the city’s best, and one of the best-reviewed by guests, is the team’s knack for finding singular local experiences—like Casual Crabbing with Tia—and persuading you to try them. I leaned on the staff from start to finish and quickly trusted them; they greet you by name before any introduction and keep a well-vetted list of recommendations, yet never push. On property, I was told to head straight up to Citrus Club, the rooftop cocktail bar and the highest in Charleston, and to the lobby Living Room for a strong old fashioned and oysters on the half shell; Henrietta’s, their other restaurant, was closed at the moment to be replaced soon. King rooms, carved from former offices, are cozy, well-appointed, and draped in wonderful Irish linens; they’re reasonably sized in a way my large suite was certainly not. If you’re splurging, a Charleston Flat delivers 511 square feet with a cast-iron tub and wingback chairs, and one evening I emerged from the bath to find a plate of freshly baked cookies waiting. Wherever you land, you’ll have access to the public spaces, spa, on-site rental cars, airport transfers, and drivers who will shuttle you wherever you need—gracious help that never feels overbearing and, in my case, led me to Tia." - The MICHELIN Guide
"Don’t judge a book by its cover, or really, don’t judge a hotel by its exterior. While the outside of this hotel is in a historic 1960s government office building, the inside is swanky and chic, with a mid-century flair and grand panels of mahogany blanketing the walls and bar countertops. The hotel’s first-floor bar, The Living Room, has a timelessness about it: Fancy library vibes, sophisticated cocktail riffs, and silver trays usher in some well-dressed crowds. The upstairs bar, proudly eight stories high, is the Citrus Club, offers a brighter, flouncier flair with coral and white decor and an expansive rooftop area featuring 360-degree views. Drinks like the spicy coconut margarita with a hint of vanilla really reflect the finesse for detail at this elegant rooftop bar." - Kayleigh Ruller
