The Dining Room

"There’s a serene, romantic feel to this restaurant inside the charming Whatley Manor country house, which dates back to 1802 and sports 12 acres of formal grounds. The evening starts with snacks in the kitchen, before moving on to the 7 course set menu, where the terse menu descriptions belie the detail and creativity in the artfully presented dishes, which come with some intriguing contrasts of texture and flavour. Extend your visit with an overnight stay in one of the luxurious modern bedrooms." - Michelin Inspector

Michelin Guide 2020: The Dining Room at Whatley Manor, Malmesbury

"Head Chef Niall Keating oversees the intimate Dining Room. Start with drinks on the terrace as you watch the sun go down, then head to the impressive new kitchen, which was fully refitted at the start of the year. Here you will enjoy delectable, cleverly crafted nibbles – which may include the likes of ‘mango, tamarind glaze’ or ‘eel, citrus, aigre-doux’ – all while chatting to the team, whose passion and determination are palpable. After this, you’re led to the dining room itself: a neutral and serene spot which keeps the focus where it matters – firmly on the food. And what exceptional food it is, with dishes packed full of Niall’s personality." - The MICHELIN Guide UK Editorial Team

Chef Spotlight: Niall Keating

"The Dining Room (at the Whatley) was awarded its first Michelin star in the 2018 MICHELIN Guide Great Britain and Ireland, a mere eight months after opening. His work there has been described as 'modern cooking [that] has a well-measured playfulness and brings together British, French and Asian flavors in an appealing multi-course set menu,' by MICHELIN Guide inspectors." - The MICHELIN Guide

We visited here yesterday for afternoon tea to celebrate our anniversary. The staff and food was delicious. We had the sparkling menu substituted with mock tails, and you can substitute meat sandwiches with veggie or vegan ones. As we are gala we had the salmon and egg sandwiches but replaced the chicken with veggie option. It’s quite easy to do so. Reasonably priced and we even left with a take away box with some of our puddings as it was quite filling. The tea is bottomless so you can try a few if you want. Only thing that was a bit unclear was what is in what tea. We had to ask staff and for some of them she had to go and check. Which we felt bad for. So it may be useful to just add what flavours are each tea on the menu. But otherwise really good and would definitely visit again. You can also walk around the grounds and gardens which are amazing and definitely recommend. The gardens are well kept with flowers blooming, birds chirping and so many bees and butterflies to spot. We also saw the bee farm on the grounds. And the parking is free and easy too. We will be visiting again very soon.

The Dining room is situated at the spa in a beautiful bright room with well spaced tables giving it a buzzing energy without being loud or crowded. Each menu includes a kitchen experience which provides you with the opportunity to enjoy a course while watching the buzz of the kitchen. The kitchen staff work seamlessly with incredible attention to detail from the plating, design of the dish to the QC as the dish is going out of the kitchen. We opted for the wine pairing which did not disappoint. The sommelier was knowledgeable providing the key tasting notes and how it would elevate each accompanying dish. Each dish we had was unique and each one better than the last. Easily one of the best meals I've ever had!

The Dining Room at Whatley Manor is a must for any foodies out there. The tasting menu by Ricki Weston is the best we’ve had for many many years. A big thank you to Connor (a wise head on young shoulders) and Matt for looking after us. We would also recommend the wine pairing as it does complement and balance some of the dishes and addresses a couple of comments from other reviews. It’s important to have the complete package.

One of the best restaurants I have been. Everything has been great, though the total portion is a bit too much for me (I could not help finishing all the bread haha). The scallop is my favorite dish.

Fantastic experience and food, we went on a Sunday but didn't feel any different to if we had gone on a Friday/Saturday night. Attention to detail what you would expect from a 2 star restaurant but fun little touches to the experience and all staff friendly and accommodating

Truly exceptional. Some of the most interesting and well put together dishes we've ever had. This place has instantly become our favourite restaurant. The focus on customer experience and attention to detail was noticed and appreciated; Ricki Weston is most definitely a man to watch! Superb.

Yelp
Being on business in the area, we were told about the Whatley Manor restaurant. A 2 Michelin star restaurant, we decided to visit the brasserie. Le Mazot, despite being a Brasserie benefits from all the excellent food the main restaurant has. When we were seated we were offered a bread basket. All of it was baked in the restaurant and simply tasted excellent. As an appetizer we had the duck terrine and a fondue. Both were well made and excellent. For entree I had the cod, which was expertly made and just tasted moist and good. The green beans and purée were also excellent. My colleague had the steak which was moist, tender and delicious. For dessert we had the fromage frais and vanilla mousse which were sweet, yet refreshing. Finally, the service was superb and impeccable. A true 5 star.
