The Duke of Sussex Review - Chiswick - London - The Infatuation

"The Duke of Sussex is a big old Victorian pub that’s way out west. This means it’s a great in between spot for when your only friends in Kingston are trying to get you to come down to theirs, but you can’t face the tube journey, followed by an overground, and then a couple of buses. It’s not quite as chichi as deepest southwest London, but it’s conveniently close to Chiswick Park tube, and the better than average pub food (with some Spanish twists), and rambling, slightly rural feeling garden, should be enough to keep your snobbiest friends from moaning all afternoon." - Oliver Feldman

Nice place, busy and buzzing. Helpful staff. The Sundays roasts were nice, but none of us could finish. I would rather pay a bit less for a portion I could eat, as I hate food waste. Would you consider doing a smaller plate?

A wonderful place! This is a historic pub with a fantastic vintage interior. As soon as you step in, you’re greeted by a very friendly and smiling team (so much for the “cold Brits”), making you feel like you’ve known them for years. What mattered to me was that I found real ale here. I only had some appetizers, and they were fantastic, so I have no doubt that the main menu is just as great. I’m 100% sure I’ll be coming back!

Had been looking forward to a Sunday Roast and wasn't disappointed with meal at the Duke of Sussex between Chiswick and Acton. The confit pork was delicious, as were the vegetables. Would have like some greens, but I didn't have any room for dessert as it was!

Restaurant: The Duke of Sussex Rating : ★★★★★. 🤩🤩 It was a wonderful dining experience with a warm welcome and a cozy atmosphere. The restaurant offers a creative menu with fresh ingredients. I had the beef filet with truffle mashed potatoes, which was delicious, along with the grilled fish dish that was perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection. The meal ended with a divine molten chocolate cake. There was also a wide selection of beverages, including beer, fresh fruit juices, alcoholic drinks, and coffee. The service was quick and efficient, making the experience even more enjoyable. Highly recommended for a relaxed evening!

The Duke of Sussex opposite Acton Green serves a fine pint of beer. Plenty of room, high ceilings and a pleasant environment. Good service from the staff. A fair selection of beers to choose from, both keg and cask. There is an expansive patio garden to the rear with plenty of seating for all. Good place for a beer, also solids (not tried), including Sunday Lunches.

Definitely a 5 stars pub. Big and airy with plenty of space in the drinking area. A fine function room and a comfortable garden. The food experience was great. Out of the usual pub grabs. Some of the dishes were absolutely stunning. Perfect for a date dinner, an afternoon drink or a Sunday lunch. Sport in screen if you really can’t do without but no annoying at all.

Low quality food. We ordered a variety of things and none of them was good but the Basque cheesecake was the worst. 4 people we couldnt finish 1 single slice of cheesecake because there was one bucket full of sugar in it. Never tasted anything more sweet than that in my life. Drank 2 liters of water all night.

Great food, welcoming staff and comfortable environment! First time visit. I took the family for Mother’s Day meal. We had the chicken pie, the Lamb, roast chicken and fish. All dishes were great. Very tasty! This was followed by desserts. Choc hazelnut tart, Spanish cheesecake and churros! Also very yummy compliments to the chefs! Staff were great! Definitely a place to revisit.

Yelp
Excellent meal and service. Stumbled upon it's after checking out Big Ben. Great afternoon of food and family. Wonderful service

Yelp
They don't accept cash. When I asked why the bartender said "we just haven't got around to going back to cash after the pandemic". If you support a cash society then don't go here. Also no signs up saying no cash accepted so after my table had already settled and gotten a round in, I was forced to use my card. If I had known cash wasn't accepted we never would of choosen this pub. I don't like shady!

Yelp
Great beer garden, nice decor and an excellent place to enjoy summer drinks. We ordered some food (catalán rice with meatballs and prawns, prawns with tomato bread, squid with salchichón and piquillo peppers). I was not impressed with our order: small portions, tasteless food and overpriced. The desert was nice though: the chocolate and caramel tart was amazing. The waiters were very kind but the service was extremly show... Actually, im writing all this while waiting for my bill (10 min ago) Overall, nice pub and i will be coming back for drinks in the garden, not for food though...

Yelp
This is by far one of my favourite pubs in West London. I come here on a regular basis and I always leave happy! Whether I'm sitting in the pub garden outside for a drink, or inside for a meal, the atmosphere is always perfect. (The garden is especially busy (and awesome) in the summer.) Moreover, the large windows and the wooden interior give the pub a lovely old-fashioned feel. The drinks at the Duke of Sussex are reasonably priced, and they have a nice selection of on-tap items. In terms of food, most dishes are somewhat expensive, however I've usually found that the taste is worth it. For locals, this place is a must-try - it's already my regular hangout!

Yelp
A good solid pub and restaurant situated on the Chiswick / Acton borders that do great food and it also has a great enclosed garden. Time has been spent restoring this pub to its former Victorian glory, with pictures of days gone by adorning the walls, light fittings that blend in well and the centre piece roof light is simply stunning, full marks must go to them for the superb restoration. In the summer months, head for the garden and chill out with some great beers and an equally good wine list with a distinct European feel to it. Food is an upmarket gastro style but the owners would probably cringe at me saying that. It is certainly better than the norm and offers modern English and Spanish dishes. I had the paella and it was very good. The front of the building is still very much pub and the rear of the building is where the restaurant is situated, it comes across as an elegant and sophisticated place to dine rather than eat. If you want something a bit different and more that the normal gastro style foods, in a pleasant and classy establishment then my advice would be to go here.

Yelp
We ate at the The Duke of Sussex a couple of days ago. The food was actually good, but my wife's tea was cold. What was even colder was our service. Our waitress was definitely having a bad day... Needless to say, we will not be going back.

Yelp
Awesome authentic fish and chips. Friendly server. Fast food to table. Great neighborhood gastropub as noted by my host.

Yelp
Not sure if this place is 5 stars or none, Five because the food is brilliant, no stars because the service is possibly the worst in west london. The staff genuinely don't seem to give a sh*t. This isn't a one off either. I live around the corner and frequent the DoS and every time I find myself repeatedly asking for wine, for food, for water, for the bill. Zero attentiveness. I guess all the signs lead to me never going back. My friends and I went recently, 14 of us, £50 a head and the bill charged us for two bottles of wine that we didn't have, food took an hour and a half to arrive. Shocking. There are better places in the area, go to them for food and the duke for beer.

Yelp
Wow !!!! I think this one word just sums it up. Again, I was completely floored by the awesome service at this place. For the duration I was at this pub, it did not feel like I was in the UK. I still cannot believe it. The staff was friendly, very kewl and helpful. The crowd was a good mix of stuffy people and some chilled locals. The food as I said WOW !!!! The desserts - poached pear to Catalan caramel .. they were all good. Their squid was not all that great, but they made up for it in their sardines, pomegranate salad, kidney pie and clams. I know I will have to be back soon for some more.

Yelp
It's not just a pub. From the outside it may seem like just a pub, but it's not. The secret garden I call it. Don't get too excited, when you first walk into the dining area at the back you are pleasantly surprised to discover their enviable designer beer garden, must be great in the summer! The dining experience was very well executed. I have to make special mention to the sugar-dusted churros that were perfectly tender-crisp. Complement your british or spanish influenced dish with wine that either comes in a carafe or bottle, try the portuguese Palestra Tinto 2003. If not go for their good selection of small brewery ales like Cornish Knocker or Harviestoun Bitter & Twisted. (I tried the latter because of the name and it was crisp and refreshing) When in the Duke turn your head to the ceiling to appreciate the art deco glass chandeliers, the curved arches leading up to an impressive skylight adorned with cherub images (quite romantic), and tasteful art with a Chiswick focus.

Yelp
Since the change in management, this place has been transformed into a gastropub with a real kitchen. An impressive menu with lots of influence from Spanish cuisine is a big improvement from the baked potatoes of old (but also more pricey). This used to be the place to drown an afternoon in sport and beer, but the big screens have gone and now it's all families and food and nice wines and a fabulous beer garden. This is the place to go if the Swan is full. If you're still hankering after sport and beer, the Stag is just up the road too. Great big windows looking out onto Acton Green make this a great place to have brunch and read the Sunday papers. The 94 bus stops just outside too. It's getting very popular though which means it gets very loud in the dining room at the back - not ideal for weekend hangovers.

Yelp
Great Spanish options (not just boring tapas either) sit alongside British classics. During our time in Chiswick if me and the wife were thinking about going somewhere for lunch you can bet half of the time we ended up here. Lovely large garden area when the weather is good too. One of those places where the menu always appeals and it's often difficult to choose.

Yelp
A lovely pub with an old fashioned feel at the front of the building, with large windows looking out on the green. At the back of the building there is a very good tapas restaurant, set in a beautiful 'distressed chic' room which leads out onto a large beer garden/outside eating space. The Duke of Sussex is a cosy home for local regulars and inviting to those that fancy a meal off the Chiswick high street.

Yelp
this is a great gastro pub. super warm and cosy inside, and right now, beautifully decked out for christmas. there is a restaurant area through the back, and even on a monday, it was properly busy. i came here in a large group for a friend's birthday. the menu is mainly spanish tapas. i'm not au fait with tapas really, so it was helpful that we had a spanish guy in our group who could explain the menu to us. as well as tapas they do also do main dishes, and you can order massive cuts of steaks for groups - we saw one coming out and it looked AMAZING and i'm not even a big meat eater. my boyfriend and i ordered between us chipirones (whole squids in batter), goats cheese, beetroot and hazelnut salad, pea and sweetcorn fritters and chips with aioli. my boyfriend also got a couple of pork-y things. we weren't sure of how much to order because you can never tell with tapas, but these were big portions, so two plates each would definitely be sufficient. the goats cheese, beetroot and hazelnut salad was absolutely amazing!!!! i would have quite happily eaten only that. the aioli that came with the chips was sooooooo garlicky. my god! but delicious. the service was efficient, and we were well looked after all night, but i don't think the wait staff particularly liked us, and they could not be described as friendly. i like friendly service, but i wasn't too bothered that it was missing here. there was one guy on the front bar, who i think was a newbie, and he was great - super friendly and smiley. chiswick isn't an area i'm normally in, but i thought the food here was great, and would definitely return if i was in the area, and wanted to blow some cash on delicious food.

Yelp
Best example of gastro pub. High quality food, mixing traditional English and Spanish dishes. Great for Sunday roasts.

Yelp
Had a decent steak dinner but thats pretty much it. Service is awful, complete lack of interest, forgetting to get your drink order more than once and still the nerve to charge a 12,5% fee. Not going back there for sure

Yelp
The place is amazing!, food is a spanish concept and has a nice atmosphere in the back of the garden! Staff are frendly and the pub is very well located happy about it!!

Yelp
A lovely local pub with amazing Spanish food, great beers on tap and very friendly bar staff. The beer garden is a great place to sit and enjoy the sunshine.

Yelp
Lovely gastro pub on the edge of Acton and Chiswick. We often visit here for lunch at the weekends. It's best to turn up early or book ahead though, as they get very busy both in the restaurant and in the bar area. Nice selection of wines, though lacking a bit on the ale. The do a lovely Pimm's pitcher that's perfect to drink in their quite large garden in the summer. The food is divine, and they always serve sourdough and butter to start.

Yelp
This is one of my favourite pubs in Chiswick, a very short walk from Chiswick Park tube station. This pub has really good food, It says on here the pub is Spanish, the pub does do some Spanish dishes but don't think it's specifically a Spanish pub. I also think they alter their menu as it seemed different this time round, poss summer and winter menu? I went last night for the first time in a while and shared the razor clams with chorizo as a starter, as I've not had razor clams before I'm not sure how they did for taste-they were nice though and the chorizo was so juicy and yummy. Also before the starter they always serve bread and butter which is a big plus for me, I then went for the fish and chips-it had to be done, gorgeous crispy big chips, battered cod served with pureed mint peas and homemade tartare sauce- really tasty though was a bit sad that the servers didn't ask me if I fancied any condiments with my meal. In summer the garden is lovely, I was sad to see they no longer have picnic blankets on the seats like they used to but oh well. The only downside of my visit was the service, the food came quite quick but it was a bit lacklustre and after a long-ish wait I had to make the first move to go and ask for the card machine. The pub itself is a pretty big pub, quite old, great to sit in the garden for summer and a gorgeous setting inside for winter. The main eating room inside has leather brown booths and chandeliers-it's not grand by any means but just really nice, also reminds me a bit of a wartime canteen (with chandeliers). I can't wait to try the swan, a pub nearby which is meant to be better!

Yelp
Usually excellent food, but occasionally a bland item appears. The fresh baked bread that you can purchase by the loaf to bring home is excellent. The large outdoor garden is wonderful with lots of sunny and shady spots.

Yelp
If you like a good range of beers and great food this place is definitely worth a visit. There is a great pub bar at the front then a superb restaurant at the back with a beer garden beyond. I live locally to this place and if I can't be bothered to cook I'll head in here for a pint and a great bite to eat. Service is always 5* too!

Yelp
The best gastro pub in Chiswick great food - superb service and the landlord is a very friendly Herbie Hancock fan!
