Michael Mina Declares Union Square His Domain Once Again | Eater SF
"The hidden bar will undoubtedly be the main draw for fans of Curry and bourbon alike: set in the same physical space but outside Bourbon Steak proper, with cherry and moody art, and leather-and-velvet-laden finishes. MINA Group’s Anthony Attanasio runs the speakeasy, pouring an omakase-style, six-course cocktail tasting that teases seasonal highballs and truffle-vanilla whiskey sours, while a la carte options nod to San Francisco history and famous residents, including an espresso-forward Scotch cocktail and a honeydew–thyme gin sour. Bourbon comes via Curry’s Gentleman’s Cut brand. The room is retro and upscale, blonde wood–toned, and shotgun-style, reached by a staircase down from the hotel bar and two from the restaurant; it’s reservation-only, seats 42, and requires cocktail attire. Hours run 4 p.m. to midnight Monday through Sunday." - Paolo Bicchieri
Here Are the San Francisco Bay Area’s Most Anticipated Restaurant Openings of Fall 2025 | Eater SF
"A 40-seat bourbon bar tied to Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry — a natural pairing given his Gentleman’s Cut bourbon — settles into the Westin St. Francis with a “curated selection of spirits as well as craft cocktails.” Opening in October." - Dianne de Guzman
Steph Curry Teams Up With an Iconic Chef for a Big San Francisco Comeback | Eater SF
"Also opening in October within the Westin St. Francis, this bourbon-driven, 40‑seat bar channels Studio 54 aspirations with a craft cocktail menu, spirits served neat, and small dishes, all operated day‑to‑day by MINA Group. Guests hoping to slip in can order at Bourbon Steak to bide their time, but the concept is, as Mina puts it, “really Steph Curry,” a passion project tied to his Gentleman’s Cut whiskey and expected to draw serious hype." - Paolo Bicchieri
Amazing cocktails with a perfect vibe / atmosphere and incredibly amazing staff.
We had reservations and a super smooth experience. The staff were incredible and really made our visit special.
I had the Sam Brannan and the Trolley and they were both amazing. Staff made great recommendations for friends and the service was amazing. Our time there felt special.
10/10 would recommend.

It was a fantastic experience. Great staff, creative cocktails and a beautiful atmosphere. A few light bar snacks on the menu is the only thing needed to make it a perfect experience.

Nice hotel bar but weird that they asked me to make a reservation when it was empty. Drinks are good and service is great, but they should relax a little bit.

So don't bother. Staff rude, and unhelpful. Not sure why the y work in hospitality but it's probably a cultural thing with in the hotel management. Atmosphere reflects this, very sterile

Vibe, drinks and experience were all amazing. Great service and drinks were fantastic. I highly recommend a drink called The Professor and can't go wrong with their Old Fashion.

I don’t usually leave reviews, but Gibron absolutely deserves one. From the moment we sat down, he made us feel like regulars. His drinks were great, but it was his personality, attention, and the way he connects with people that stood out. It’s rare to meet someone who can elevate the entire vibe of a place just by doing their job exceptionally well. If you go to The Eighth Rule, ask for Gibron—he’s the reason I’ll be coming back.

Terrible service, hella expensive drinks, lack of vibes! I was so disappointed in this place. My friend ordered a Rose’ and it took 30 min to get it. The servers looked so out of sorts the whole time, running around like it was packed, and there were about 10 ppl in the whole place.
The host wouldn’t sit us in the back room which is the prettiest part of the bar. They finally let us sit back there while on our second drink and there were only 4 ppl in there. We just couldn’t understand why they wouldn’t sit us in there when their whole bar was practically empty during our visit.
Did I mention expensive drinks….if you want to try one drink off of the “gentlemen cut” menu, that will be $32/drink 🫠🫠🫠

Yelp
Love a great bourbon! Tried the Steph Curry
Gentleman's Cut old fashioned and I was happy to say it was smooth and tasty!!
Had my birthday dinner upstairs at bourbon steak (see that review!) and then stopped in downstairs thru an unmarked door! Very quaint and pleasant- it's tight seating so you'll be forced to mingle ! It's not very loud so you can still converse and the music is mid-loud so there is still an ambiance. Everyone was dressed up and intimately sharing their thoughts in low conversation. The drinks were made with a heavy pour just like I like !!
It is reservation only bc it's limited seating- we (only 2 of us) got a space by the bar but the back area is also cute for "bigger" groups.
Just fyi : Expect to drop $60 on 2 drinks!

Yelp

Food: 10/10
Drinks: 8/10
Wait time: 3/10

Beautiful atmosphere, great flavors -- just wish the food came out a little quicker. Overall, worth the experience.

Yelp
Visited here before my dinner reservations at Bourbon Steak. Very nice, Mad Men vibes. I had the Sam Brannon which was really good even for me not being a huge bourbon fan. The staff were really friendly. We unfortunately got seated in the entry area I think because we were late for our reservation. You only have a 15 minute grace period before it's cancelled, even though I called, understandably. The back area looked a lot nicer to sit and enjoy.

Yelp
Honestly I just wanted to come here to see Stephen Curry new bar. It's on the side of the hotel. Small but cute. We lost our reservation because we were 20 minutes late. I am always on time but traffic was horrible and parking worse. We were able to sit at the bar which is first come first serve. I went for the HIGHBALL but was told I couldn't because it's apart of a tasting menu with 4 other drinks for $145. I was disappointed but got a trolley. It was good. Tasted like a Paloma. There is no food here either. In case you think you can order appetizers in case. We came here after dinner for drinks. Check it out if you are in the area but don't go out of your way like I did. It's more the hype

Yelp
Had an amazing time at Eighth Rule celebrating my birthday with one of my girlfriends. AMINSKI (not sure if that's spelled correctly ) and LUIS were fabulous! Very accommodating, fun, and professional. The drinks were tasty and the ambiance was very sexy. Had a great time"

Yelp
My wife and I went to The Eighth Rule last night. I was especially excited to go to Steph Curry's new "speakeasy". We had 9:30 reservations and arrived 5 minutes early. The seating in the back section was already full and they offered us a seat in the front area. The ambience was minimal at best. I ordered the gentleman's cut, but it was not to my liking. My wife ordered the Sam Brennan. It was so tart that she could not drink it. She had one sip and waited another 10 minutes and had a second sip, but that was all she could stand. $28 for a cocktail that you can only sip twice was to say the least disappointing. Extremely disappointed at The Eighth Rule.

Yelp
What a flop. Cold and bleak with no ambience. Stick with westins lobby bar. Much more fun and lively.

Yelp
What a bust!!!!
Michael Minna cannot get it right in San Francisco. This is Minna's third failure in a row here in SF.
All the hype of a speakeasy venue with the backing of Steph Curry sounds like a lucrative and successful venture, but not in SF fools.
Place is empty on a Friday night, bartenders are clueless of the theme and have no knowledge about high end bourbons. A flight will set you back $150 and for two people with gratuity is $500. Want a bite to eat? Need to go across the street because there is not even a peanut on the menu.
All of Minna's places go belly up and I am sure The Eighth Rule will be no exception.
Would be Better as an Irish pub and it would also be packed with people.

Yelp
Made a reservation but never received an email confirmation. Needed to cancel but no phone number on website(s) and no way to contact except to Request A Reservation where you can add comments. No same day reservations either. Why bother. Such ineptness has to carry over...

Yelp
I went early - just after 5pm - and asked to sit at the bar. It was not crowded in fact very few people were seated. I was given a glass of water and some menus. After looking through the menus I tried to order but was told I needed to wait for the bar staff. Meanwhile guy sitting next to me was able to order and get his food. He was embarrassed and apologized to me - a guest! Unfortunately the bar staff was taking care of other people and despite waiting for a quite a while they ignored me and served others who came after. I realized I wasn't going to be served and left. Maybe I didn't look rich enough or my Jimmy Choos weren't apparent enough? So disappointed.
