"Epicurean Trader is an upscale mini-market in Cow Hollow (there’s a second location in Bernal Heights) that sells high quality breads, pasta, cheese, and wine - much of which comes from your favorite spots in the Mission. This shop won’t replace your weekly grocery store trip, but the next time you want a loaf of Tartine bread or some Bi-Rite ice cream, Epicurean Trader is here for you." - Taylor Abrams

I work nearby and always enjoy their cafe on my break times but lately they have been closing it down early. I walked in Wednesday afternoon a little before 1:30pm and was notified that the bar was closed early and already shut down. They didn’t give a specific reason but it’s disappointing specially since closing time is listed at 2. Normally I wouldn’t mind but this has happened multiple times already and honestly it’s happened so often that I feel like they should just make the closing time an hr earlier to avoid this issue.

Ray did a great job arranging a cheese selection for us, that we then had a courier pick up. Great to have this store making more artisanal goods available to the city.

Google
San Francisco is full of high end grocery stores with overpriced goods you don't really need, and The Epicurean Trader is the king of them all. It stocks all sorts of fabulous treats. From small batch artisinal ketchup to a wide array of obscure and delicious alcohols. It will cost you a fortune to shop here and you'll have a wonderful time and a full larder. Their new extension serves coffee and (soon) wine.

Google
Not sure if they are aware it is ILLEGAL (California state law) to not honor the posted price of an item, but they refused to sell me an item that was very clearly marked at a certain price (to be clear, the incorrect posted price was not unreasonable in any way, i.e- an $80 item being posted for .80 cents)… the middle aged woman I spoke to about this matter was very rude and the entire encounter ruined my experience at this store. I don’t plan to return to an establishment that engages in deceptive practices.

Google
This place had recently expanded! Should show up on the map better bc it's amazing! So many delicious pastry options, both sweet and savory.

Google
Can’t speak for the grocery portion but a good coffee shop they are not. The worst americano I’ve ever had. Completely watered down, tastes like nothing.

Google
It's nice. The only thing I don't like about it (hence the four stars) is that their selection is spotty, and there are a lot of normal food items they don't carry. So, I've often walked in there and come out disappointed. They'd get more traffic if they'd be a bit more of a normal grocery, rather than only stocking the super-chichi stuff. End up having to walk down the street to Luke's Local a lot when I would rather have bought here.

Google
Amazing and diverse food and beverage offerings. I particularly enjoyed the liquor collection. The Sunday we stopped by they had a bourbon tasting.

Yelp
had a fabulous bagel and lox sandwich this morning and it was fabulous. it was an abundant amount of smoked salmon, so beautifully prepared I am so glad a food establishment like this exists on Union street. I had a business for 34 years on Union street and this is a great addition to the community.

Yelp
The cutest little grocery market. I tried the famous Emily Mariko muffins from craftsmen and wolves. Very delicious, a tad pricy, super unique.

Yelp
Need a coffee and bagel? Wine and cheese to bring to a party? Fancy chocolate to give as a gift? A new mezcal? A locally made loaf of bread? A mole sauce for dinner? You name it they've got it. This place is chock full of highly curated items - it's like your favorite local grocery store, liquor store, and cafe all in one. They also have a good rewards program as well that syncs with Cashapp. If you have questions their staff is extremely knowledgeable about their products. There are a couple seats inside and outside if you grab a coffee.

Andie H.

Yelp
Always a fun lil' place to stop by and browse or to bring friends/family when we're out for a neighborhood walk. They have grocery/market items as well as specialty food items, alcohol, coffee bar, pastries/artisan breads and more. We've gone last minute Christmas shopping here countless times and whatever we get is always a hit. Verrrrry pricey, but still fun to stop by.

Liann A.

Yelp
Cute little store that sells alcohol, charcuterie, has a bakery and cafe to order some stuff to eat and drink. There's some indoor dining tables and I believe wifi for those that want to work and people watch and there are tables right up front to enjoy our market purchases or to grab a bite to eat. They also have a bathroom inside too! They have a wide range of alcohols you can buy from the bottle, and also fresh flowers! Cute little shop in the Marina district. It can get busy and be hard to find street parking, especially on the weekends. The workers were super kind and friendly, service was great!

Christiane F.

Yelp
This place has so much charm to it and the service is always great, it feels very European. But I'd say the food/drink themselves are pretty average. I tried their blue matcha and wasn't impressed, their breakfast sandwich was good but nothing to brag about. Would return for the vibes.

Isaac A.

Yelp
Came here for breakfast sandwiches. Got the truffled grilled cheese and everything bagel with vegan cream cheese (added capers, onions and arugula). The grilled cheese was the standout! Flavors and texture were on point. The truffle was there but not over powering. Bread crunch hit the right frequency. The bagel was a let down. Not sure exactly why it fell so flat but it just wasn't there. The cream cheese probably if I had to put my finger on it. They don't automatically cut the bagel in half like they do sandwiches so def ask ahead of time for that. Grilled cheese was a 5. Bagel was a 3. Averaged to 4. Staff was friendly and store was very cute!

Yelp
One of the best secret stores for global treats at the highest quality. My recent discovery was a tea leaf salad kit, bread and condiments. Service is quick and very helpful with guidance. Ambiance is clean.

Robert R.

Yelp
I had been in the area and needed to pick up a new Bottle of Whiskey/ Bourbon. I had recently been going through and wanted something new on the shelf. My friend had suggested Rowans Creek small batch and that had that particular brand in stock. Their selection is very diverse as far as Spirits go and they had every type of Bourbon you can ask for. Rye; to Japanese, and American well known brands as well. They have all types of Spirits and mixers and garnishes. I wound up getting a couple of Bernal Bakery cookies which were absolutely Amazing. Chocolate Peanut cookies were soft and had sea salt specks sprinkled in. The gentleman at the counter was super nice and helpful. The selection is very diverse in whatever type of Spirits you're looking for and also a one stop shop for the garnishes or snacks to go with your libations.

Foodie S.

Yelp
Come here for my sparkling water. Staff is always helpful and parking is not great but that's SF. Staffer gave me great info to pre order sparkling water for large order. Some seating indoor and outdoor. Many goodies to shop for.

Keira C.

Yelp
Very well stocked place and great finds for gifts. Also love their deli for delicious sandwiches and grilled cheese! Yum!

Ember B.

Yelp
Obsessed with this place. Amazing lattes, I got a vanilla latte and the salted honey. Both perfectly sweet. The breakfast sandwich is also super yummy. A nice breakfast for less than $20. And the staff is so nice. Also great place to buy gifts!

David G.

Yelp
Great local shop with fancy stuff (coffee, alcohol, candy, etc). Be careful as it's easy to spend big here, but, most products I've picked up were really nice.

Linsey F.

Yelp
Visited the shop in Bernal Heights on a whim and left with so many fun goodies. Delicious chai spice almond peanut butter blend, concentrates for the soda stream and / or cocktails and a lovely spice mix for tea. The service really stood out. My visit was nice and questions are answered with enthusiasm. Will be back!

Lippy L.

Yelp
It was almost a year ago that I first discovered Epicurean Trader (first in Bernal Heights, then on Union st. where this review is based). They consistently have interesting products and they're displayed so nicely that I am COMPELLED to try at least ONE new thing on every visit. Today's visit was punctuated by the Xilli mole sauce and the Che Fico pepper sauce. I can't wait to crack them. The spirits offerings (like everything else) are well-curated and I was kinda in awe at their amari shelve(S!). Last time I was there the helpful staff pointed me to the cute, "to-go" Martinez Cocktails in a can. I was skeptical but they were SO tasty (and potent!) that I grabbed two more this time around. *Pro-Tip: At check out, ask for a cup of crushed ice with a sipping lid and walk/sip with your Martinez all over San Francisco for a true "Locals Only" experience. Don't mention my name! Bottom line - you can trust ET to provide you with singular, hand curated wonderful items in just about every comestible category!

David N.

Yelp
The most delicious Pastrami and gruyère. Croissant! Buttery, flaky, and savory. Ate at a high bench table top, watching a pretty busy carryout business. Very clean and tidy. Proof of vaccination and ID. Lost a star due to completely unorganized counter person. Nice enough guy, just in a conundrum.

John V.

Yelp
Love this little store!! They curate an amazing collection of really cool and unique items/ingredients to try from all over the place. Amazing alcohol selection as well. Super friendly staff, go check it out!

Amanda S.

Yelp
Loved visiting this gem in Hayes Valley. They carry almost all of the dtc specialty brands that I usually order online (Rancho Gordo, Diaspora, Graza, Pineapple Collective) plus many more I haven't heard of. I can't wait to cook and taste my way through this store and to check out all of their nonalcoholic wines and spirits. Plus I overheard that they have a whiskey club to keep my boyfriend interested too! What a perfect place, we'll definitely be back!

Claire C.

Yelp
I've wandered by this shop a few times, and have gone in before to browse their collection of wine, cocktail mixes, and spices, and have somehow never noticed their bakery section. I ordered a kougin aman, and it was still fresh around 3pm in the afternoon. Have you ever bit into something and thought, "aw crap I'm going to be spending all my money here"? Because that was my immediate reaction. Buttery crispy perfection. I also didn't realize it was going to be filled- I think with salted Carmel or some almond butter flavored filling (honestly forgot what the sign said)- and it really made it perfection. Scrolling through other Yelp reviews it looks like they're know for their empanadas and paninis- definitely will be back to try those as well!

Crystal M.

Yelp
I love the epicurean trader! It's a great place to get yourself or someone special a yummy gift. My favorites are their bouquets, chocolates, cheeses, and wait, I'm just listing everything they sell, never mind.

Jorgen A.

Yelp
Great coffee, dog friendly, delicious breakfast sandwiches, and good bagels. This place is great and everyone who works here is so friendly. Their usually isn't a long line either so highly recommend if you need a quick high quality coffee while you're taking your dog for a walk :)

Ewa U.

Yelp
Words can't express how great it is to have this European delicacy store/coffee/wine bar in the marina! From gourmet charcuterie fixings, to olive oils, breads & an array of drink mixology Bells and whistles - come here for some off the "regular" market culinary items. Bonus: there's now an adjacent cafe serving coffee , fresh sandos (French style), wine and even an entire charcuterie board. Beautiful setting for a sunny (or foggy!) day w your gf or bf as you both explore your epicurean tastes. Riding solo? Come here w your lap top or book as you enjoy your chilled Rose and great people watching. Enjoy

Sabrina H.

Yelp
The store is filled with quality, top-tiered items. The ambiance is calm and is very photo-worthy. You are welcomed by kind employees and their points system is great!

Michael P.

Yelp
No longer dog friendly. I've been coming here since they opened to get coffee with my dog and today I was yelled at by the barista to get out and leave my service dog OUTSIDE! When I said she was a service dog he still said dogs need to be outside. Never going here again.

Yasmeen N.

Yelp
The Ambiance was like every other small business in San Francisco : Awesome !. The young lady that took my order was cool & the croissant I purchased was fresh. Every time I visit the ferry building I will make it a point to go to Epicurean Trader.

Ana Sofía V.

Yelp
They have a great selection of everything they have. Not a single thing I did not like from soaps, candles, houseware, alcohol, groceries, oil, spices, etc. It is an excellent curated experience. Just walking by to take a look is great, the place is beautiful and enjoyable to walk by in a great area of San Francisco. If you have a dinner party and want to bring something nice, want to take care of yourself and your family by making a great dinner at home, or need to get a nice gift for someone, stop by here.

Annette J.

Yelp
I appreciate the staff's hospitality and making my first experience comfortable. I sat on my computer close to an outlet for a while. The ambience was relaxing and also a sparky place to get remote work done. The drinks and food were perfect! I love the idea of coffee and wine! I'll plan to come back:) thanks again!

Arielle B.

Yelp
I absolutely love this little spot on union. I pass by it almost daily and often walk through to look at the products. The music is always just perfect and brightens my mood whether it's oldies rock or new age Rufus du sol vibes. Even if it's a chilly SF day the warm heaters are blasting on the outside tables making them cozy. Most times I stop in it's for a coffee (salted honey latte with macadamia nut milk is a 10/10) but have also tried a variety of their delicious pastries and loaves of bread from local bakeries. I've also been on the receiving end of their absolutely gorgeous bouquets of flowers. Next on my list is to grab some wine and snacks and will update when I do :)

Yelp
Went to create a gift basket. Autumn was able to jump in and walk us through the store identifying things that we would even never even see. The selection available in the store is always impressing and the quality of the food product they offer is second to none. The store was on the quieter side this afternoon so we felt were really able to walk through the store like it was our own pantry with the excellent and knowledgeable "private shopper" that Autumn is. I understand she might be at this store working as well as at the one they have on Bernal. Both amazing stores. Grateful for what they have been able to do and even more grateful for the help we got today from Autumn. Granted I do not remember ever having anything less than great service here in the past but I always either went to the cafe or shopped for small items. Today was a big deal for us and we left extremely satisfied.

Mila Z.

Yelp
Best place ever!! Come here all the time for food, coffee, and gifts!! The truffle grilled cheese is actually to die for

Jared O.

Yelp
The Epicurean Trader never disappoints! I stop in every time I come back to San Francisco while visiting and then once more before I leave to bring awesome gourmet snacks and coffee home to my family. The products they sell are always interesting and delicious. I love coming into the store and seeing what's new. It's nearly impossible to leave empty handed! I never do and I'm not mad about it.

T M.

Yelp
The Ferry Building location of the Epicurean Trader is fabulous! Lots of great items to choose from for yourself or as a gift, plus you can order wine + food + coffee to enjoy at their cafe. The service is fantastic as well. Definitely worth a visit - hopefully more than once.

L M.

Yelp
Such a great shop! I purchased a cute mini fruit cake for my mom for her bday/christmas. She specially asked for one and I had a hard time finding one in the city. Alas, the ferry building came through. The Epicurean Trader is a nice shop with lots of goodies and friendly staff. I will definitely be walking by again.

Kathleen R.

Yelp
In the midst of the busy Ferry Building, I really enjoy having a cup of coffee at this charming and peaceful Epicurean Trader location! Great tasting coffee and bakery selection! Their market has delicious & unique snack, food and beverage items. Manager Chris is extremely nice and welcoming! Employees/Baristas are great at their job! Always an enjoyable and yum experience!

Jordan L.

Yelp
This place was pretty good!! They got our order wrong after already waiting for a while. But the vibes are good! Seems like a very local place which always helps. We got the morning bun (from another place), and 2 bagels. They were pretty good too! I'd stop by here again if I was in the neighborhood.

Miriam A.

Yelp
Such a quaint little coffee/shop to come grab a coffee! Cute spot to bring a book, catch up with friends, or bring a laptop to get some work done. My friend brought our group here during our morning stroll through the Marina and I loved it- their Iced Matcha was exactly what I needed!

Maria Y.

Yelp
If only every business owner took their customers as seriously as Epicurean Trader (**note this and the previous review was for the cafe side)! Rejoice all Gluten-Free gourmands... their cheese boards are ready for you. Not even 24 hours passed after I wrote my review when I got a message from the owner with apologies for the opening-weekend service snafus, but also true concern about the quality of the food and experience as a whole - including pricing. How do I know it was legit? Because he acknowledged every point I made and came up with a game plan to address/correct them. He even generously offered a refund. Today, just three days after the experience, they have already implemented some of the changes: there are gluten-free substitutions available for the cheese boards at no extra charge, there are side plates available, and they are offering a smaller cheese board option at $25. I haven't seen what this new board looks like but I appreciate the effort - particularly for cafe service so new. No business can accommodate every request/feedback, but at least here, you know that they care. I would encourage you to see for yourselves. I did think about deleting the first review but as I always read updates first, I hope you are doing the same. I thought it would be dishonest to delete it and would not allow me the opportunity to point out how great the place is at feedback. It shows that an establishment is interested in growing and in their customers and that type of vibe isn't something you can review until something like this happens. Places that invested in customers are bound to become stellar with a warm reputation to boot. I probably would never have gone back if I didn't hear from them, but I look forward to giving them another try soon and perhaps then I'll be able to honestly update this review to 5 stars.

Tristan L.

Yelp
Well curated selection of food and treats. Great place to go for stocking stuffers or gifts for the foodie.

Daniel M.

Yelp
Great liquor selection. Epicurean Trader is the only market we've found that carries Faccia Brutto, one of our favorite Fernet's out of NY. I always leave with something in hand

Andrew K.

Yelp
Wonderful job, Gaby. She went above and beyond and despite the store being a hands-on specialty grocer, she could not have been more approachable, helpful or nicer. She is the epitome of the type of person that service businesses should be seeking - friendly, conscientious and knowledgeable - as she helped me pick out specialty drinks for the 4th. Well done @EpicureanTrader for having such an engaged person on staff. I'll be back.

KJ T.

Yelp
Much love to the Epicurean Trader team for fixing the table. I now find it more comfortable to sit down inside, sipping a hot beverage and people watch. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Blair P.

Yelp
If you're looking for a special gift, unique alcohol, craft olive oil or vinegar, delicious breads, rows of craft chocolates, or something definitely different and artisanal, you can find it here. The store is small, but the shelves are filled with interesting and attractive options. They offer quality items, and you'll pay for it in cost. Their deli sandwiches are a must. My favorites are their paninis .

Sydny F.

Yelp
The have an incredible ham gruyere croissant sandwich. It was flaky and toasted to perfection. Coffee was fine, otherwise cute liquor store (overpriced though) but has a lot of items that would be great for gifting.

Julian S.

Yelp
lovely, quaint & stylish shop in Hayes Valley. The people who work here had good energy & were great to talk to. Honorable mention: Their coffee selection is superb & they also carry bread from Tartine, my favorite bakery in SF! Love this place.

Emily L.

Yelp
I love this place! It's so special and everything is fantastic quality! The chocolates and cheese selections are solid. Can't forget about their beautiful flower bouquets.

Alexander L.

Yelp
Best quick stop in Ferry Building - selection is amazing, everything well curated and options are endless!

karen K.

Yelp
Love The Epicurean Trader. I go to the one on Cortland Avenue in Bernal Heights for Tartine bread and other specialty items. Whenever I'm looking for a gift, this is the first place I go; I usually buy a specialty alcohol (mesquite, rum, whiskey) and chocolates. All in all, a fantastic place to browse and shop.

Sara G.

Yelp
My favorite little food boutique! It's like walking into my dream pantry. And I can always find the perfect birthday gift for just about anyone!

LQ W.

Yelp
Best place to grab a bite or sit at their tables to chat or people watch. Their empanadas are flaky and warmed up just right. They have a good selection of baked goods (craftsman & wolves) . Sandwiches can be made to order and they use great breads. On the other side of the the store they have some wonderful selection of cooking items. Good quality of Vinegars to try and buy. You can byob and fill it. Wines , olives , condiments etc... Their selection of goods are not like the everyday stuff at Safeway. The are truly for the hidden Epicurean.
