"Right on the border of the ’Loin and ’Nob is The European inside the Warwick Hotel. It’s a good place to stop in for a pre-dinner drink during their daily Happy Hour or for a nightcap before you head home. The cocktails are some of the best in the neighborhood and the bar menu can easily stand in for dinner if you decide to make yourself comfortable." - Taylor Abrams

Hit this place on a slow night (I hope). Bartender was happy to have a customer! I'm a big fan of the St. George gin from Alameda. Good pour. Bacon wrapped dates and meatballs were delicious.

Google
Superb food preparation. Service was pretty slow during happy hour and it wasn’t particularly busy. Drink & HH food menu could use a facelift. We ended up ignoring the HH options for the most part. Decor is really nice with the theme but would have liked some actual European music rather than the basic rap that I can find everywhere else.

Google
Horrible x2 experience … please diversify your bar staff. No matter how you slice or dice your establishment is in tenderloin! Black clients need to feel welcome by your Hispanic staff who focus on Caucasian clients! You need to change the name !! EUROPEAN!! II was the only client in the bar …. Waited extensively for a drink and walked out when observing no effort initiated by yourTWO staff (Spanish speaking ) at the bar! You have a problem in the facility. I will file a federal law and city and county of San Francisco law suit next time this happens to me! TRUST ME… God bless America!! Move out of Tenderlion if you only want EUROPEAN patrons. By the way … nobody answers the phone at the Warwick … be aware if you are coming from abroad to this establishment. 03/02/2025 18:40 visit! The negative reviews are ABSOLUTELY accurate based on my two visits. Relocate this institution … I will start a solo protest in-front of this establishment unless the assure having new and well trained culturally sensitive staff!! If you have been discriminated by this establishment please feel free to join! Why did they punish me by making me wait so long? All I asked for was gin, lemon juice and soda water. Initially being told it’s not part of the happy hour menu.

Google
Extremely nice and pleasing environment, a little tiny but that gives charm to the place. The ambiance is very sweet and nice. They just don’t seem to be used to customers asking for coffee instead of alcoholic beverages but it’s fine :)

Google
This place is amazing! Alejandro makes the best drinks. I'm not sure what he sprinkles in the drinks but it brings the 'happiness' out and about. We had a blast; for sure if you DON'T like fun don't stop by here cause you will be disappointed. Coming back for sure! Don't say pataw-toe!

Google
Get the best bang for your buck during their amazing happy hour. The drinks were awesome - loved the bee sting. The food was even better, surprisingly. The cheese board left us wanting more and the lamb chops were juicy and so succulent that we had to order more. The service was good and the setting is perfect for couples or groups. Really beautiful bar.

Google
Our hotel was in the neighbourhood, so I checked the website for this bar. The website menu said gt happy hour between 5-7. When we arrived and ask about the HH. The waiter said he didn’t know anything about happy hour. When I told him about the info on the website his response was ‘I’m not in charge of the website’. It was the weirdest response ever. Next time just check with your supervisor or just give it to us straight that the information is outdated. The funny thing was that there was a chalk board in the back stating the happy hour. We were planning on having a few drinks and something to snack. But we left after 1 round of drinks. He gets 1 star because the GT was nice.

Google
Super rude bartenders. We stayed two nights at the warwick. We only went down for our free wine one of the nights. The bartender was super rude, telling us that we already used our wine credit. We tried to tell him someone used our room number to get free wine. He then continued to talk about us rudely in spanish behind our backs. Terrible experience.

Pam M.

Yelp
I visited with a friend for a quick happy hour get together. We each sliders, patatas bravas, truffle garlic fries & cocktails (I had a mojito & my friend had a lemon drop). The space is modern & sleek. The bartender was also our server so he was juggling table service & bar guests so he was busy. The food & cocktails were pretty good & happy hour prices made it even better.

Tara B.

Yelp
It was so nice to have a functioning bar and food options in a hotel, again. The food served here comes from the tapas restaurant and is good. The churros are amazing! The feel of the place is upscale bar, but friendly and unpretentious. We sat at the bar and chatted with the bartender and had a very enjoyable time.

Rob L.

Yelp
Bartenders are top notch, they make you feel welcome and can make any drink. Offered a blackberry mojito and the espresso martini were delicious. They have 2 tvs to catch the sports games with a food menu as well. Excellent service and experience

Margarita R.

Yelp
I went for couple drinks and snacks before goin theater, the bartender was very friendly and everything was going well until a very rude woman appeared, she looked like the manager because she also mistreated the bartender, it was very uncomfortable. I canceled the snacks and I will never go back.

Afshin A.

Yelp
Great drinks! Before I go on, let me say that my review covers drinks only. We did not have any food on this visit. We had a short window of a couple of hours to get together with a couple of friends and they suggested The European because it was conveniently located for all of us. The place has a nice bar, to your left as you enter, and also a seating area with a few tables. We sat at one of the tables at the very end. The cocktails are made real nicely. Their Mojito won a few votes in our group. I ordered the Sangria and loved it. There was a family sitting on a table near us and they ordered plenty of food; all tapas style and every plate they got looked appetizing! But, we were running out of time and had to hit the road. Next time we will definitely try the food!

Isabel S.

Yelp
great experience! Don't miss it and the music was also super fun, lots of Latin hits perfect for a Thursday happy hour

Natalie K.

Yelp
The food is tapas style with several paella options available. Great wine list and a delicious espresso martini they add chocolate liqueur in I love the bar staff - they know their cocktails and wines, are so kind and energetic, and overall possess great energy that add to the ambiance of The European. I enjoy coming here for a bite or drink with the girls since their seating is comfortable and chic, think loungey tapas den style, with the choice of four/two top tables, if so preferred. The seafood paella had a surprising amount of seafood in it, ask for some hot sauce to go with! The lamb lollipops - super tender and savory; patatas bravas were a group favorite; shishito peppers - kinda basic but expected. For desserts, we had the chocolate ganache, or bites of chocalate bliss paired with strawberries and little crackers, and a slice of cake (can't remember the name. Go for the ganache!! The cake was okay, not too flavorful and quite dense.

Kristine O.

Yelp
Came here for happy hour on Friday from 4-6pm. Had their Mi casa Tu casa cocktail which was delicious. We ordered a bunch of plates, some were really good like the potatoes, bacon wrapped dates, others were okay like the lamb chops and shishito peppers. Love the vibe and decor, it's connected with the restaurant next door, which is where the happy hour food menu comes from. Would like to revisit as well as try the restaurant it's connected to for an official dinner.

Yelp
We had no plans of going to a bar when we came in here. We were actually looking for a place to grab a quick bite before our Harry Potter play on the street opposite. Since this was the only place nearby, we decided to go in. I am glad that we did :) As a first impression, nothing really stands out with this place. Its a regular bar with a good selection of drinks and has good seating indoors. Drinks : We had a couple of Cucumber delight and Old fashions. The drinks were yummy and potent with the right amount of sweetness. Food : The fries and the chicken wings were great, definitely something we needed before the 3 hour long play. Ambience : This place is bigger than what it appears from outside. Its clean, the bar is not as big but the seating is great. The music was very light so it made it easier to have a conversation. But then again, it might get loud as night falls. The bathrooms are located upstairs and make you walk almost through a maze to get there but are clean and hygienic. There is no outdoor seating here. Value for Money : Drinks are strong and the food is good. What else do you need!

Darian S.

Yelp
The European quickly became my fiancé and I's favorite place in Union Square. We came twice in our short 4 day trip. We felt so welcomed by everyone we interacted with. The bar tenders as well as the food & drink manager we're wonderful! The food is 10/10 and the drinks are also 10/10! Knowledgeable bartenders who were able to help my fiancé explore more delicious , reasonably priced bourbon.

Sara K.

Yelp
The bartender, Alejandro was great, the cocktails were very tasty and great service, I totally recommend it.

Cindy R.

Yelp
We were looking for a spot with wine and tapas and we found this spot just a block away from our hotel. You must have your COVID vaccinations and ID to be served. The interior is quite cozy with dim lighting. We had a nice cab with a half charcuterie and cheese plate which was very good! I was surprised to get a $2 off on a glass of wine when I checked in. When I mentioned it to the server, she said since Covid, they were not supposed to have a Yelp discount, but she was kind enough to honor it. We really liked the food and wine and would go back again.

Adrian S.

Yelp
Came here after having HH up the st. Bartenders were great with great tasting manhattan's. I do have to say the supervisor Emad didn't make us feel welcome or confortable. Might of been because i was speaking a different language and/or laughing with the staff. Will definitely come back just because of the friendly bartenders.

Norma l.

Yelp
5 stars does not give this establishment enough justice. Our experience at the European was exquisite and genuinely exceeded our already high expectations of not only Spanish cuisine, but the dining experience as a whole. The ambience, the service, the good were all superb. We ordered the octopus and the squid ink paella and each bite was absolute perfection! On top of this, our server, Sergio Casas, was not only so attentive but also so friendly and personal. His bartending skills were so impressive and his energy was magnetic. He showed us his best drinks that were even showcased in Forbes news. The drinks we had all had a beautiful taste. Even though we came at a later hour, he was still such a memorable character who served us some of the best food we have had with the best energy. We will definitely be coming back! A

Yelp
Walked in expecting a happy hour only to find out they have not updated their website. Since we went in for their nonexistent happy hour, we thought the menu prices were quite high. Although it had a nice looking bar and seating area, it was super quiet. Bartender was friendly. Moved on. Might try next time we're in the area.

Terry F.

Yelp
Came in right before last class and the staff was kind enough to let us know to try and hurry to get our order in without being rude about it! It has a nice grown up bar/lounge feel to it which I liked. We ordered the Charcuterie Plate, Patatas Bravas, Pommes Frites, the Surf and Turf paella, and more! My friends and I love to do family style when we go out to eat and the servings were just right! My favorite was the Patatas Bravas and the Chicken tenders, yes you have to try them to believe it! Lol They also have a different seating area I believe which is right next door attached to the main entrance which we did not get to sit at, however I will be back to check it out!

Yelp
We came here, with only a day's notice, with a group of forty (yes, 40!) people for a pre-theater Sunday Happy Hour. Chef Miguel, Bar Man Eric, the wait staff, and the food all made me look like a genius to my group. We descended on the place in waves, and built of to a large group with discriminating taste for exceptionally good food and well fashioned drinks. We were all delighted with the variety and quality of tapas and the innovative, as well as classic, drinks they offer here at the European. There was just no stumping Eric, he's a master behind the bar. The tapas are rich, delicious, and varied as they come from kitchen of Bota Tapas Restaurant, right there in the hotel. I did quite a bit of table hopping among my happy guests and tried a little bit of many dishes. Patatas Bravas, Garlic Shrimp, Chicken Fingers (who knew chickens had fingers!?), Brussels Sprouts, on and on. Every choice was a hit. The Charcuterie plate, meat and cheese, was one of my favorites ( I hovered at THAT table for a while! ) Oh... and the Lamb Chop Lollipops ...OMG tender, moist, and flavorful! Great food, fine wine, expertly mixed drinks... and a quiet TV behind the bar so some people can keep one eye on the game in progress! The European has a separate room, right there next to the bar area, separated by a heavy drapery. It has a warm feel to it, with tables, sitting areas, coffee table, and an roomy mingling zone right there in the middle. It's a nice discreet area to sit when it's just you two. But for us it was like a cocktail party room all our own. Classy. Lots of people, or just a couple looking for a place to have a pre-show (or even post-show) drink and a nosh, this place is perfect. The Curran Theater, and The Geary Theater, are both right across the street. Once you realize how great the food is, ask for a table right there at Bota Tapas and Paella Bar, just across the lobby.... but more on Bota next time.

Sandy B.

Yelp
I really want to love the bar but fell short. One drink and left. I felt it wasn't welcoming. Bartender wasn't on the friendly side but not mean. Felt as if they just want your one drink, pay and leave. I guess standard hotel bar? Been to a few cocktail bars that day and its my least favorite. The drinks was so so, nothing special. I got the European, assuming its their signature but taste average and wasn't crafted to my opinion. I will not be returning since there are so many other cocktail bars in the area. Also they changed a lot of the menu so you might not get what you come for.

Alex V.

Yelp
Truly a proper "everything from the can" establishment, including the service. Drinks are very poorly done, and recipes for traditional cocktails are treated as loose suggestions at best. The service is the farthest thing from attentive, which would be fine if the prices weren't sky high. Definitely a place to stop by if you're looking for what is essentially a Union Sq. truck stop (minus the urinal) if you're taking a road trip through SF.

Yi Z.

Yelp
We were seeing a show at the Curran across the street and I thought that we could easily walk into the Bota for dinner. As it turned out, all of the tables were reserved. Just as I was about to walk out the door feeling deefated, the host told me that the The European, the bar next door, serves the same menu and has first-come first-serve tables available. I happily skipped over to The European and discovered that not only did they have the same menu as Bota, they also have a happy hour. I seated myself and browsed the menu as I waited for the bf to arrive. Instead of him, a random gentleman walked up to me and asked timidly if I was "Gina." I realized he was on a first date with "Gina" and for the rest of my time there, I kept peeking over to see if she had arrived. (Eventually she did and he tried very hard to impress her). For dinner, we ordered Bacon-Wrapped Dates ($14), Grilled Octopus ($19), Patatas Bravas ($8) and Lamb Chops ($17). The Bacon-Wrapped Dates were a terrible value and when I expressed my disappointment to the bf, he reminded me that portions for bacon-wrapped dates are small at every restaurant but I always seem to forget and order it anyway. Don't be silly like me and you should skip the dates. The Grilled Octopus is what you would expect from a tapas spot. It was tender and a smalish portion. The Patatas were not my choice and we added it as a "filler" after the dates had arrived because we were afraid we would not have enough food otherwise. It's basically cubed potatoes with some sauce; how great could it possibly taste? They saved the best for last. We raved about the lamb chops. The portion was generous - $17 for 3 chops is what you'd expect to get at a non-tapas style restaurant. The bf loves lamb in general and the pistachios on these chops gave it a good crunchy coating. The European worked out pretty well for us that day.

Ty C.

Yelp
The place was empty when I arrived around 6 pm on a Thursday evening. Happy Hour runs till 7 pm with $7 cocktails. The bartender was pleasant and very professional. There was nice seating and TVs had the Warriors game on. One HH cocktail and one non HH cocktail ran about $20 total after tax and then a couple bucks for tip on top of that. Not a cheap place for a drink, even during happy hour. If you are in the area, maybe you want to stop by. I wouldn't go out of my way to go back there, and there are other places to grab a drink for hh in close proximity.

Allie P.

Yelp
Came here for happy hour. The drink prices are reasonable and the two cocktails I ordered were ok. We tried the cheese board which was good and the brussel sprouts from their regular menu which were excellent. Their regular menu is Tapa style and is on the expensive side. All in all a cute place and I'm glad I tried it.

Benjamin F.

Yelp
I stopped into the European last week for a quick happy hour drink and meeting as I'd hat it bookmarked for a while and wanted to see what it was all about. It's located inside the Warwick hotel and easy to find. I ordered a martini which was really well done. Tough to mess up but, the bartender was super friendly. The happy hour food however...that's another story. The olives were incredibly salty (and that's tough to do even for me), the mixed nut medley was pretty meh and the patatas bravas was just ok. I'm not sure if they're going for a Spanish theme here because the bar doesn't give that vibe but, the menu sure does. Anyway, overall it's an ok experience but not something I'd send people to given the amount of high caliber food/eats in the surrounding area.

Jeremiah S.

Yelp
Bartender was really cool. Very professional and I commend him for his ability to deal with drunks.

Janice C.

Yelp
Guys, I've found my new favorite hotel bar! The European fuses the old world charm with the new without being super trendy. I like that! But don't worry, it won't replace my beloved Burritt Room as my go to drinking spot, which coincidentally is only an 8 min walk from the European. However, you'll see me checking in here more often (oh hey stalkers) since they have a bargain of a HH. From open til 7pm, you can get $6 wine, $6 cocktails, $4 pomme frites and $4 braised pork sliders. If you're feeling classy and sh*t, get the melt in your mouth $9 steak bites. I LOVED that they have the Aperol spritz on the HH menu since I usually like to start off with a low alcohol drink these days. (shuddup Peter L!) Aperol, prosecco and club soda is a combination that's pretty much a winner with any of the ladies. Not to mention, it brings me back to the time I gallivanted in Italy for two full weeks drinking nothing but this sparkly referesher. The European and Nouveau are also very good choices. And if you don't like your drink, don't fear. The European is the kind of place where you can be completely satisfied with your selection and if not, as what happened with me, Jake went the extra mile to make it right despite the very packed bar. It's that kind of hospitality that wins me over and makes me a regular. Highly recommended, but of course, only as a first stop before Burritt Room ;)

Miseker A.

Yelp
Service was not accommodating to hotel guests, and server was dismissive and rude, reluctant to provide the complimentary wine that comes with the hotel stay

Gita r.

Yelp
I came here yesterday around 330 and it was really busy. Luckily after 10min I got a seat. The bartenders were attentive and friendly and one of them made my drink, Dangerous Bangkok, with a lot of precision and detail. The flavors were there, but I didn't love it. After visiting yelp, I was confident that the European had happy hour, but when asking about it, I was told there was no happy hour. Also, this bar brings more of a stuffy crowd with suits and business meetings. I assume it's because it's connected to a hotel, but I wish I knew before I planned to come here to meet up with a friend.

Jon L.

Yelp
An underrated and often overlooked spot for happy hour, The European is a great spot to catch up with folks after work over a couple glasses of wine and little bites. Happy hour till 7pm Monday-Friday with $6 bubbly, wines, and a handful of cocktails. The red wine is pretty legit for happy hour and it's a decent pour. It also pairs well with some steak bites ($9 during happy hour). The steak is tender and a wonderful bite-sized take on the classic steak and potatoes combination. I'm sure there were greater ambitions for The European and Aveline but selfishly I'm glad it's evolved to where it is now. It's an eclectic space that is refined yet comfortable and service is attentive and friendly. If you're looking for a quieter spot to grab a drink and relax near Union Square, The European is definitely worth considering.

Pamela K.

Yelp
Great drinks, great service. Spacious venue. Happy hour from 4-7p with nice variety of $6 specialty cocktails (wine, beer options as well). At $6 they might as well be free! If you like gin, I highly recommend the European Sling and the Zesper. If you stop in, hopefully you're lucky enough to get Mike -- awesome bartender and he takes great photos of you (if you ask nicely). :) Thanks for the great find, Yelp!

Kellen F.

Yelp
Yikes. Surprised by the five star reviews. Our bartender was in a MOOD. We're staying at the Warwick and stopped in the bar while we waited for a food delivery. Immediately got attitude from the bartender because we asked for the complimentary wine the hotel offered. I ordered another glass after the first two my husband and I had and asked to charge the room. He yelled at us as we were gathering our items that we needed to sign something. Okay .. he hands us the receipt and I sign it and leave a substantial cash tip for three glasses of wine and we leave. Then he chases us to our hotel room and angrily tells us that we need to FILL OUT the receipt or else he can't charge us. I'm just appalled that he chased us to our room (so obviously knew our room number) and yelled at us twice. Leave the receipt at the front desk? Ask the front desk to call us to come back down? I don't know it was aggressive and frankly inappropriate behavior all around.

Yelp
Some friends were at happy hour last Friday, May 5th, so I decided to meet them up. Showed up around 6pm. They were seated in a couple of seats at the side of the bar. Luckily it was empty in the small front lounge area, so I was able to grab a small table and seat. Happy hour: Monday-Friday, 3pm-7pm *Steak bites ($11): crisp potatoes, bordelaise, creme fraiche *Pommes frites ($4) *Popcorn ($4) *Charcuterie plate ($11): four chef's selected meats, crackers, fixin's HH seems like a fun way to try a bunch of appetizers. I wasn't very hungry, so I didn't try anything, but everyone seemed to enjoy the food. They also ordered a dish from the regular menu: Mushroom fritters - lemon aioli, fried mushrooms ($11). Drinks: *Gran negroni ($13): gin, gran classico, campari vermouth *The Brooklyn ($12): rye, china china, maraschino, dry vermouth I got the Brooklyn which I enjoyed. I prefer dry vermouth over sweet vermouth, so this has become one of my favorite drinks. I had a sip of the negroni which was pretty tasty as well. Since it was negroni week, they they were donating $1 for every negroni to the Shanti project. Great place to have a drink before having dinner next door at Aveline!

Emm P.

Yelp
A lovely little spot for pre-show dinner and drinks! Their cocktails could use a little refining but overall the food was great (oxtails, garlic prawns, lamp lollipops, oysters). All fantastic! Kind service too.

G S.

Yelp
Please get your hours right on Yelp. We just walked 15 minutes to get to your restaurant that says it closes in 40 minutes and got turned away. Quite frustrating

Eva R.

Yelp
This place is connected to the Warwick hotel. Stopped here for a drink before heading to the airport and they happened to have happy hour specials from 12-7pm on a Sunday! The Honeysuckle was on HH special and it was really good.

Max L.

Yelp
I wanted to give one star. Probably the worst bar I've ever been to. We went in around 9pm. One bartender, who has no idea how to make drink at all. I never seen a bar can mess up Gin&Tonic. All of four drinks we ordered, we only had few sips. This bar is a shame.

Cherylynn N.

Yelp
When you put a Beretta alum behind the bar and a lush in front of him, you got real troubles. The lush will drink every deliciously buzztastic drink presented to her and will end up faceplanting into a plate of katsu curry down the block in the seedy loin then having it to uber it back home while her car sits at the parking lot at work. Hmmm, I wonder who this lush is? Not I. OTHER NOTES: *Located inside The Warwick Hotel, The European is the adjacent bar to The Aveline (Top Chef's Casey Thompson's new restaurant). Both are grand opening tomorrow. They will be providing drinks for the restaurant. *Attended a private event yesterday and sampled an array of cocktails. The savory Sauternes celery cocktail was interestingly enough my favorite. I pounded two of those. =X *Cocktails are $8-$12. Here's a link to the cocktails and bar bites menu: http://insidescoopsf.sfgate.com/files/2014/06/TheEuropeanMenu.pdf *Really friendly and helpful staff (Thank you to Betsy for the invite.) *Old world Euro décor with plushy couches in back for lounging with hip hop music playing. Yay for Tupac!

David H.

Yelp
Classy joint with great drinks and long hours to be happy. Lamb lollipop was the bomb at $12. Great place to hang and talk. Good service

Ann G.

Yelp
Three stars because it was convenient and attached to our hotel. One star for the service, because the bartenders all seemed so angry. That was kind of weird. I ordered a Sidecar and the bartender balked and said he couldn't make it. Strange for a bar. The other bartender was a bit squirrely and hostile. Oh well, I ordered something different. Overall, the space was beautiful, but the service was off. Maybe another night, I suppose.

Joe P.

Yelp
The European is a cool lounge located adjacent to the Warwick Hotel on Geary & Taylor in the "Tendergroin" in SF. It is very European and is befitting of a high-end chain like the Warwick. We ordered a couple of signature Europeans (don't have the ingredients), and a Love Letter (vodka, lemon, hibiscus, ginger & seltzer) at $12/each. Unfortunately, both drinks were too sweet for all our tastes. We switched to real men drinks afterwards: Tequila rocks w/ a squeeze of lime; vodka tonic; and rum & coke: 3 Stars for the cocktails. The ambiance is very nice and there are several tables to sit at, or push together for a large party. A couple of downsides are if you want to eat, be prepared to drop $3/each for Fanny Bay Oysters, or $18 for a burger w/ fries. In addition, if you want to use the restroom, it is down the elevator and around the corner: 3 Stars. On the other hand, the service was very good from our waiter. He was attentive and very polite: 4 Stars. 3.5 Stars overall. The European is a cool place to have drinks after dinner and before a club. But avoid the froo froo drinks because they are way too sweet for a real man - LOL!!!

Virginia T.

Yelp
Strong drinks! We popped in on a Saturday night and surprisingly this place was super quiet. They had drink and appetizer specials and the drinks were strong. Server/bartender was eh-seemed bored out of his mind-however-he did at the end recommend some pretty great places to eat!

KB B.

Yelp
The door to get in the bar was locked, thought it was closed but there was an opening through the hotel next door. Got there when they first opened up on Friday. Nice spot. They didn't have a lot of happy hour food items, ordered the chicken tenders, small portion. Not much drink selections. The decor was cool. The bartender was also attentive. Definitely check it out and then go to another spot.

Edward S.

Yelp
We stumbled upon this place while walking around Union Station. It has a nice bar and we went into the back. It is a non-traditional place to eat, we sat at some very comfortable sofas. We arrived at happy hour and immediately ordered cheese plate and the house red. The cheese plate was excellent, with good mix of cheeses, fruit, and jam. The house wine was quite nice. We were in a group and ordered variety of food. Four of us ordered the burger, two medium and two medium rare. They all came cooked the same way (clearly med. rare) but we all loved them. Great brioche bread, tasty caramelized onions, and a really good burger. I would have preferred if it was not slathered in mayo (despite not on description) but I just scraped it off and enjoyed it. We also had the fries which were really good. The calamari was nice also. It is part of a hotel, but definitely worth a visit.

Yelp
A nice hotel bar to bring visitors, or pregame, or a few drinks before going to dinner. It is modern, trendy, and inviting from the bustle outside that is Union Square bordering the TL. For us locals who can go anytime, their HH ends at 7pm. Make HH as the drink prices are on the high side, higher than at most drinking spots. Making this place the night's destination is reaching a bit though. The venue is big but the layout feels cramped because there aren't that many seats out at the bar. Just bar stools and a couple of small tables by the door. Toward the back is a lounge with chairs and tables. The cocktails and bar foods (charcuterie plate was pretty good) make up for it; drinks are on the strong side too.

Yelp
Great place, delicious food, loved the tapas, best mojito by far. Kudos to Alejandro and Esteban! Will definitely be back.

Yelp
Love this place - It's so cute inside; great vibe overall and the service is also really good. The drinks are delish and the menu is yummy as you have the option to order from the great Spanish tapas place right next door that is so yummy. They make a pretty good paella and they have several other tapas that are very good. I love that there are a lot of GF options so I can eat plenty and not feel like I have to fill up on lettuce and drinks like I often do at many other places LOL

Yelp
Just down the street from Union Square this spot is located right on the corner of Geary & Taylor, right next to the Warwick Hotel. The bar is actually connected to the hotel next door--I believe they can charge your drinks to your room but don't quote me on that. I was looking for an upscale place that had a happy hour (M-F 4p-7p) and this place delivered. I showed up right as happy hour was starting and there were relatively few people there. The bartender was friendly and attentive. The only thing that I was a little disappointed by was the limited happy hour food menu, but only because I was craving something but didn't know what that was--Hot wings? French fries? I'm not sure but they definitely don't have the typical bar fare. I wouldn't recommend this place if you're bringing a large group but it's great for meeting with a friend for post-work drinks. It's a bit on the pricey side but with the classiness and being in San Francisco, I kind of expect that.

Yelp
In an area with not many great happy hours, I was excited to learn of The European's lengthy one. Upon entering, I was intrigued by the fun decor and cool bar, and there's ample tables and room, another plus. My friend and I ordered the cheese plate, and we found it to be a nice assortment with fun accompaniments. I think there is room to have a little more creativity with the wine list, but perhaps they are instead to focus on their cocktail program, and I haven't tried any of those yet. I'm not sure if I came on an off night, but I did seem to find the service a lot bit slow and inattentive. It wasn't terrible by any means, but i think with some extra care in this area, The European could move from solid to great.

Yelp
Really poor service. Drinks all came out at different times, the waitress didn't put our order in correctly then went on break. The bartender then retook our order. When we requested our drink he then made a rude comment about not having cheap brandy?, Even though the forgot to bill us for several drinks, we overpaid. Unfortunate...

Yelp
Go for Happy Hour . Great atmosphere! Phenomenal Service! Get a glass of wine a before a performance at The Curran. Glass of red goes great with their potatas bravas.
